Sam Smith Opens Up About His Gender Identity: 'I Feel Just as Much Woman as I Am Man'

Sam Smith came out as gay in May 2014 ahead of the release of his first album. In anticipation of his sophomore release, the powerful singer is opening up about his gender identity.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Sam shared his fascination with makeup and heels. "People don't know this, but when I was 17, I remember becoming obsessed with Boy George and Marilyn [Monroe], and all that," he said. "There was one moment in my life where I didn't own a piece of male clothing, really. I would wear full make-up every day in school, eyelashes, leggings with Dr Martens and huge fur coats, for 2.5 years."

And now? "I love a heel. I've got loads of heels at home."

His interviewer pressed further, asking if he identified as cisgender. ("Cisgender" refers to a person whose gender identity is the same as the sex they were assigned when they were born.) Sam pointed out the two Venus symbols he has tattooed on his fingers. "No. I mean, I've got these tattoos on my fingers."

He elaborated, "I don't know what the title would be, but I feel just as much woman as I am man."

Much respect to Sam for talking about his gender identity and representing those who don't identify as cisgender.

In terms of fashion, fall is the most important season. Not only are trends constantly stepping off the catwalk, but debut holiday collections and versatile autumn weather lead to innovative outfit combos and new street style looks. College Fashion Week 2017 set the bar high for ultimate fall style, so read below for our tips on how to achieve a head-to-toe look that’s totally on trend.

Hair

Just because it’s fall doesn’t mean that beachy summer waves are out. Bed Head by TIGI kept this trend alive at College Fashion Week 2017, and as expected, it completely slayed. Get your own version of the look using the Curlipops Styling Iron and Headrush, then finish by keeping your locks in place with Masterpiece Shine Hairspray.

We highly recommend trying this style on the go, especially for the next adventure you take while traveling with StudentUniverse! Beach waves will ~never~ fail you.

Another signature ‘do that stepped off the runway was sleeked-back hair. This high-fashion style works best with a middle part, and you can easily copy the look by using After-Party to slick your locks flat. Finish by tying your hair back in a high ponytail for complete catwalk glam.

Makeup

At College Fashion Week 2017, Ulta Beauty brought out the best of the best in trending makeup. The first trend you’ll want to try is bold brows offset by shimmery eyes. Get this look using any of the shadows in the Tarte Dream Big Eyeshadow Palette, and by shading in your brows with the IT CosmeticsBrow Power Eyebrow Pencil. Ready, set, beautiful!

Another of the season’s top makeup trends is soft winter lips. Our runway models rocked a rose-hued Je Ne Sais Quoi Lip Treatment by IT Cosmetics for a gorgeous, understated lip color. You’ll definitely want to bring this to your campus!

Finally, don’t forget to pair your fall-fabulous makeup with a can of Spindrift Sparkling Water. This gorgeous drink made with real fruit is the best midday lunch accessory.

Outfit

Primark debuted next-level lewks at College Fashion Week 2017, and by far our favorite upcoming trend is non-traditional denim. We’re talking embroidered denim jackets and jeans, patchwork denim, ruffle hems and more. We are so here for this. Just don’t forget your ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses while you shop––the better to see all these amazing styles with!

Our models also tore up with runway with chic velvet boots, so do yourself a favor and buy a pair ASAP. Your campus won’t know what hit it when you strut around in this trending boot this season. Want more like this look? Download the Lust Have app for ALL the fashion inspo.

The 7 Best Scary Movies to Watch With Your S.O.

$

Who said Halloween wasn’t a romantic holiday? Not only can you dress up in cute matching costumes with your SO, but you have someone who will cover your eyes and who you can grab onto during the gory scenes of scary movies. Horror films are one of the best ways to get your adrenaline pumping for a fun date during Halloween season, whether it’s with your long-term squeeze or a new cutie you’ve been seeing.

While going for a walk to see the leaves changing is a nice way of hanging out, every couple needs a break from the typical fall dates—and what better way to break the lull than with popcorn and a blood-curdling thriller?

So kick off the spooky festivities by cuddling up with your man and watching one of these terrifying movies! Experts even say that engaging in thrilling activities with another person can make your bond stronger. We’ve ordered our movie selections from light-hearted frights to bone-chilling tales that will stick with you long after you’ve turned off the TV—it’s up to you how close you want to get with your guy this Halloween!

1. Warm Bodies

Can’t decide between a horror flick and a rom-com? Warm Bodies takes the best of both worlds by blending a grotesque cast with an irresistibly sweet plotline. In this paranormal Romeo and Juliet adaptation, a zombie boy falls for a living girl in the midst of an apocalypse. As their love grows stronger, the boy begins showing more human-like characteristics (we’ll spare you the beating heart joke), which shed a new light on the war between the living and the dead. So if you and your guy have opposite tastes on the movie spectrum, we’re sure you’ll both find something to love in this hilarious “horror” film. Plus, you can always have a playful argument about who will win the ultimate battle between zombies and humans!

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street

Another classic that takes place in a seemingly peaceful suburban setting, this movie will turn your pleasant dreams into sheer terror. When a murderer with a bladed glove begins haunting people in their sleep, a young girl must prove that a string of deaths are all related to one nighttime killer (before he slashes all of her friends!)

While the plotline will make you sleep with one eye open, keep in mind that this movie was made in the ‘80s. Lindsay Goldstein, a senior at the University of Illinois, says, “The special effects are SO outdated, and it's always great to make fun of how obvious the makeup and fake blood are and laugh together while snuggling up!”

3. Scream

Any installation of this classic thriller is sure to give you a case of goosebumps. The movie features a cast of horror movie mavens that use their know-how to escape the attacks of a killer by the name of Ghostface (we wonder how long it took them to come up with that…). While the cast makes fun of the conventions in scary movies, they still find themselves falling for the very same tricks.

“I think it [has] just the right amount of scary… that you can talk through the movie and still know what’s going on,” says Asiana Smith, a senior at Le Moyne College. What would you and your guy do if Ghostface was pursuing you? Chat it up and make a game plan as you watch the main characters make not-so-smart decisions.

4. When a Stranger Calls

This 2006 remake of the 1979 film will have you think twice about taking that seemingly harmless part-time babysitting job. When a teenager babysits two children in a large home, she receives strange phone calls from an unidentified number. The police trace the call and tell the babysitter that the calls are coming from inside the house (we think that’s a creepy enough reason for you and your guy to silence your own phones—and that means more attention on each other!). The babysitter soon realizes that her real job description is to keep the kids—and herself—alive and far away from the mysterious caller.

Despite its disturbing premise, this movie can also be an unlikely conversation starter if you’re watching it with a guy you’re getting to know. “I always use this movie to my advantage because I can cuddle up with the guy and reference how much I babysit and love kids,” says Morgan Gibbons, a recent grad of Boston College and the publicity director for HC BC. “Guys usually like to hear that I care about kids… especially if they have younger siblings.”

5. The Cabin in the Woods

If you think all horror films end the same way, you need to watch this movie. The story begins with five adventurous friends who go on holiday in a remote cabin (what could possibly go wrong?). Little do they know that workers in an underground facility are monitoring their every move. By using drugs, the workers begin manipulating the group’s rational thoughts (like sticking together no matter what) to control their fates.

The action pokes fun at the ridiculous scenarios in most horror films and uses a unique approach to keep you guessing at every suspenseful pause. On top of the exciting plot, there are a few sultry scenes (like a tipsy game of truth or dare) that will set the mood for any scary movie date night—just make sure your date doesn’t get jealous when you’re staring at Chris Hemsworth more than him.

6. You’re Next

A family reunion goes awry in this movie when murderers wearing farm animal masks invade the family’s luxurious vacation home. However, the assailants are in for a surprise when one of the sons’ girlfriends has hidden survival skills that could save them all. The retreat turns into a bloody game of cat and mouse as relationships are tested and trust becomes one of the most deadly weapons. This movie is sure to give you an eerie feeling as you’re holding on to your guy because the most dangerous villains are often closer than you think…(although we’re sure he’s great!)

7. The Conjuring

Set in the 1970s, this movie is about a family who moves into a farmhouse that was previously owned by an accused witch. If that wasn’t bad enough, it turns out the witch killed her own children and then committed suicide. The family starts hearing voices and seeks out the help of a husband and wife who specialize in paranormal investigations. The creepiness escalates, and the couple must perform an exorcism before the family is possessed, and history repeats itself. This movie is not for the timid, so make sure you and your guy are ready for the eeriest scenes ever. If you need some motivation to make it through to the end, just know that Patrick Wilson gets a lot of screen time.

Take advantage of the spooky season and indulge your inner child; you can outgrow trick-or-treating, but scary movies are always age-appropriate. Your S.O. will appreciate the bold suggestion and be more than happy to protect you from those freaky villains (whether you’re really scared or not!).

Don’t get me wrong—this relationship starts out in such a twisted way. But the romance that blossoms out of Jasper’s attempt to blackmail Eleanor gives the show legs. Their coupling is an emotional roller coaster—for them and for fans—but it’ll keep you watching and speeding through episodes as quickly as you can.

Alicia Silverstone Dressed Up As Cher from 'Clueless'& It Was the Best Throwback

As we start to wind up for the hot-mess that is Halloweekend, we can already predict a few of the costumes that will be at every party. Aliens, cats, devils and angels, you name it––but if anyone was planning to dress as Cher Horowitz for Halloween, it looks like you’ve got some competition.

In an iconic move, Alicia Silverstone dressed up as her own character from Clueless, and put every attempted remake of this outfit to shame. Silverstone blessed us with this outfit of choice via an upcoming episode of Lip Sync Battle, and she even managed to grab the praise of Chrissy Teigen, who compared Silverstone dressed up as Cher to Queen Bey herself.

Not only does the yellow-plaid set perfectly recreate the one from the movie, but Alicia Silverstone literally does not look like she’s aged since she played Cher. What’s her secret? Is it exercise tapes? Her refusal to date immature boys? If anyone has any idea, please let us know ASAP.

We can only hope that Silverstone wears this outfit to an actual Halloween party, but a girl can dream. To anyone whose group was planning on dressing as Cher, Dionne and Tai, don’t let this stop you. Even if your costume isn’t an exact replica, you’re still going to rock it! And to that we give you...

Please Don’t Appropriate My Culture This Halloween

The opinions expressed in this article are the author's own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus.

To quote the Netflix original series Dear White People, “Here are a list of acceptable Halloween costumes: A pirate, slutty nurse, any of our first 43 presidents. Top of the list of unacceptable costumes? Me.”

I get that the black community has a unique sense of style and that our hair is fabulous, but that does not make it okay to wear us as costumes. That also goes for all cultures that are not your own, not just the black community. Newsflash: it’s not funny to run around in a Native American outfit making war cries with a hand over your mouth. That’s just called cultural appropriation.

For clarification, cultural appropriation is taking elements from another race or ethnicity without the consent of that race or ethnicity. Aka cultural appropriation is basically when the oppressor race takes cultural elements from an oppressed race. Not as often, it is also when people pick up elements of another's culture from growing up in a diverse setting. However, the central disheartening fact about cultural appropriation is that it's exploiting elements from a race, yet not understanding where it came from or the history behind it.

Culture is not something taken lightly or that exists as a fashion trend. Culture is unique to each group and makes them who they are. Wearing my hair in its natural afro is my way of showing my pride as an African American. It’s a struggle maintaining my hair in its natural state. I can’t wash my hair as often as others. I have to keep it moisturized. If I don’t wear a headscarf before sleeping, my hair is tangled mess that’s not comb friendly. Black hair is often nappy. This is why I don’t appreciate seeing afro wigs on non-black people, or people that don't naturally have that hair type. Often the person wearing it doesn’t know the struggle of having to constantly pick at that afro to make my hair look the way it does.

Blackface is just a no-go all the way across the board. I wish I could say that blackface is no longer an issue, but that’s not the case. Just read this article by Samantha Escobar about racist college parties, if you don’t believe me. I take the utmost pride in my brown skin; I was born with it and it’s a beautiful shade. It is not to be copied and mocked.

There’s a thin line between cultural appropriation and homage that people are concerned about. My take is that if you're pretending to be that race and/or if it counts as a stereotype, negative OR positive, it is definitely not a homage. Just don’t do it. I know that isn’t very helpful, so there are a couple questions you can ask yourself if you decide that you want to buy into something that represents another culture, formed by Nadra Kareem Nittle from ThoughtCo. Ask yourself, why you are “borrowing” this piece of culture? Is it genuine interest or are you following a fashion trend? Where is this piece from? Is it made by someone who from that culture? Does it mean something to them? Is it respectful to the people of that culture? How would they feel about it?

The safest bet for Halloween is to not take anything from any culture. Just go with the generic costumes like an angel, ghost, skeleton or animal. Be on the safe side. Please don’t appropriate my culture instead.

While definitely spooky, skeleton hands can also come off as graceful. An artsy tattoo like this one is sure to be a hit.

2. Black Cat

Getting a tattoo of a black cat is very much in line with the Halloween spirit, but it is also said that tattoos like this represent both feminity and mystery. Now if that's not spoopy, I don't know what is!

3. Full/Half Moons

This is a great idea for those of you who prefer more subtle, rather than explicitly halloween-y tattoos. Plus, how cute is the placement on both of these?

4. Two Faced

If you're looking for something a little less basic but just as creepy, this just might be for you. Check out @savichan for more inspiration.

5. Ghost

Ghosts make surprisingly great tats, and just as wonderful Halloween costumes.

7 Pieces of Clothing You Should Throw Out Before You Turn 21

$
0
0

Sure, you’re technically an “adult” when you turn 18 — but let’s be honest: turning 21 is when those grown-up ~feels~ start to set in. You’re over half of the way to graduation and can legally drink wine to your heart’s content — it’s time your wardrobe reflected your new adult-ness. Read on for seven pieces you should part ways with when you turn 21 — and what to replace them with.

1. Flip-flops that aren’t for the beach

In addition to being super terrible for your feet flip-flops, especially those of the rubber, waterproof variety, make pretty much any outfit that’s not a swimsuit look a bit too laid back.

Of course, that’s not to say that you can’t still show off your amazing pedicure in a different pair of sandals! Slides are the perfect grown-up version of flip-flops — you can throw them on and go, but they’re also way more sophisticated. Try this pair from Steve Madden for a fun, fringe-y look.

2. Anything with the tags still on it

We all have one: that top you bought years ago thinking it would become one of your favorites, and yet, it sits in the back of your closet unworn and with the tags still attached. No matter how cute it is, if you’ve made it through 3-plus years of college without needing it, chances are it’s time to part ways. Make some moolah by selling it to a local thrift or consignment store, or invite some friends over for a closet swap!

3. Uncomfortable bras and underwear

There’s nothing better than finding a super comfy bra or pair of undies that fits you just right — and at the same time, there’s nothing worse than itchy, saggy or just generally uncomfy underpinnings. We know, that lacy thong is hot AF — but if you can’t even look at it without feeling uncomfortable, it’s not worth keeping. Ditto with anything that’s ripped or has fraying elastic.

The bright side? Once you’ve gotten rid of those pieces sitting at the back of your undies drawer, you have the perfect excuse to *treat yourself* to some new panties and bras that are equally parts comfy and sexy.

4. Stretch “jeans” that are actually just leggings

Skinny jeans will always be a classic — so as you transition into being an ~adult~ you’ll probably want to have something on hand that’s a little more sophisticated than ultra-tight skinny jeans that are actually just spandex leggings in disguise.

Instead, exchange your jeggings for a mid-wash pair with a fit that’s a little more relaxed and made from higher quality denim — they’ll instantly become part of your go-to outfit. This cropped version from Levi’s is the perfect way to show off a cute pair of ankle booties or heels.

5. High school T-shirts

We know, we know — nostalgia! But chances are, these are taking up at least an extra drawer or shelf in your closet that they don’t need to be — and let’s be honest, how often do you really wear them for anything other than sleeping or cleaning your apartment?

If you have a few you want to keep around and are in the mood to get crafty, a T-shirt quilt may be in order — but until then, replace that varsity soccer tee with this super chic option from Madewell.

6. Cheap jewelry

If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably racked up enough jewelry from places like Forever 21 to last a lifetime — and while these pieces are great ways to rock short-lived trends, they also tarnish quickly and can turn your skin green. Throw out anything that’s broken or tarnished beyond repair and instead save up and invest in a few quality pieces that won’t go out of style to supplement your trendier baubles.

7. Stretchy, body-con pieces

By now, you’ve probably realized that “going out clothes” can mean more than just an elasticized body-con dress or skirt from H&M. Ditch the skintight, solid-colored pieces and get more creative with your night out look. A sheer tee paired with a bralette or a denim wrap mini skirt are equally sexy — and you won’t look like every single other girl at the party.

Now that you’re officially grown up AF, your closet should reflect it!

4 Female Senators Shared Their #MeToo Stories, Proving How Terrifyingly Common Sexual Assault Is

$

0

As the powerful stories told via the #MeToo hashtag have already made clear, all too many women have some kind of experience being sexually harassed or assaulted — including four Democratic senators who have come forward with their stories.

As Teen Vogue reports, NBC's Meet the Press asked all 21 female members of the U.S. Senate if they'd be willing to share stories they had of being sexually harassed or assaulted. Four of them, including Elizabeth Warren, Heidi Heitkamp, Mazie Hirono and Claire McCaskill, volunteered to speak about their experiences — demonstrating just how horrifyingly common it is for women to be taken advantage of in the workplace.

Warren's story took place during her days as a "baby law professor," as she says, when a senior faculty member, who often told dirty jokes and made comments about her appearance, asked her to come to his office.

"One day he asked me if I would stop by his office, which I didn't think much about, and I did," Warren said. "And he slammed the door and lunged for me. It was like a bad cartoon. He's chasing me around the desk, trying to get his hands on me, and I kept saying, 'You don't want to do this. You don't want to do this. I have little children at home. Please don't do this,' and trying to talk calmly. And at the same time, what was flickering through my brain is, If he gets ahold of me, I'm going to punch him right in the face."

Warren continues that despite the fact that she managed to escape, she blamed herself for the incident afterwards, telling no one but her best friend.

Senator McCaskill's story is just as horrifying. During her start as a state legislator, she approached the speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives and asked for advice on how to get her first bill out of committee. "And he looked at me and he paused and he said, 'Well, did you bring your knee pads?'" McCaskill says in NBC's video.

Senator Hirono's experiences mirrored those of McCaskill's and Warrens. "I've been propositioned by teachers, by my colleagues, and, you know, you name it," the Hawaii senator says.

Meanwhile, Senator Heitkamp says she was harassed by a law enforcement official who approached her while she was speaking at a domestic violence awareness event. "He pretty much put his finger in my face and he said, 'Listen here, men will always beat their wives and you can't stop 'em,'" Heitkamp said.

Moving forward, all four senators made it clear that it's time for both women and men to create a culture in which this behavior is no longer tolerated — so men like Harvey Weinstein are forced to be held responsible for their actions, no matter how powerful they are. "We have to stick together, but it can't just be a movement of women," Heitkamp says in the video. "It has to be a cultural movement."

2017 has been filled with so many great pop culture moments, from starter pack memes to Wonder Woman to Taylor Swift's new songs. Here are 25 costumes you'll probably see people rocking around campus this Halloween.

1. Wonder Woman

There are tons of Wonder Woman costumes on the web, but if you're on a budget, you can rock this look by donning a red tube top, blue shorts and some red knee-high socks and buying Wonder Woman's headband separately.

2. The Old Taylor

People will have a wide variety of Taylors to choose from, thanks to her music video for "Look What You Made Me Do," but zombie Taylor will probably be the most popular. This look might require some more advanced makeup skills, but with the help of a makeup-savvy friend, anything is possible.

3. Pennywise

Sexy Pennywise costume, anyone? Yandy is selling it for a whopping $120, but you can get the same look using a white dress that's probably already in your closet, buying an orange wig and imitating Pennywise's makeup.

4. Handmaid

All you need for this costume is a red dress, a red cloak made out of thick fabric and a white bonnet. You'll definitely stay warm in this layered costume.

5. Betty or Veronica from Riverdale

You'll probably see Veronica from Riverdale around campus, too, but rocking Betty's look is as easy as finding a shirt with a colorful collar, a cute sweater and some white skinny jeans to complete the look.

6. Elizabeth II from The Crown

What girl wouldn't love an excuse to "frost" herself with a sparkly tiara and a mesmerizing necklace and earring set? Besides the jewelry, you'll need a blue sash, a cocktail dress and a pretty updo.

7. Moana

Moana's look is perfect for anyone with natural dark, beachy waves. Just grab a red tube top, a chunky blue necklace and a beige-colored skirt with a red belt tied around your hips, and show everyone you "know the way."

8. Corinne's Nanny, Raquel

Raquel's casual look is probably one of the easiest to pull off. All you really need to do is watch some old Bachelor episodes for inspo, and you'll be spending Halloween in comfort.

9. Beyoncé Pregnancy Announcement Photo

Bey's pregnancy announcement outfit is on the minimalist side, so you may want to bring along a jacket to keep warm, but all you need to pull off this iconic look is a brown bra, periwinkle blue shorts and a light green veil, topped off with a bright red lip.

10. Belle from Beauty and the Beast

You could go all out for this costume and buy an actual, yellow ballgown…or you could find an off-the-shoulder yellow dress and fashion it into a princess-worthy look. A half-up do with romantic waves will complete the Emma Watson-inspired look.

11. Maeve from Westworld

To get Maeve's look, you'll need to put your hair into an updo and scour your local Goodwill or thrift shop for a long dress worthy of a brothel madam. Wear a bold, dark necklace and some bright pink adornments in your hair.

12. Nasty Woman

All you need to channel your inner "nasty woman" is this T-shirt or one like it. You can scour the internet for various colors and styles, or make your own with a plain tee and a fabric pen or paint.

13. Trump Orb

One of 2017's most hilarious photos came when President Trump touched this mysterious, glowing orb. If you can get your hands on an orb, all you need is a Trump wig and a suit.

14. Covfefe

Another one of Trump's comments that has made its way onto merchandise, your "covfefe" can once again consist of dressing like Trump and holding a "covfefe" prop or just sporting a T-shirt with the word printed or written on it.

15. Nothing but Respect for MY President

The beauty of this costume is you can dress as casually or as cute as you want. All you have to do is make your own Hollywood star, dedicated to a celebrity of your choice, and walk around telling people, "I have nothing but respect for MY president."

16. Snapchat Hot Dog

Hot dog costumes are pretty easy to come across in most stores. If you'd rather use things you already own, a nude pink dress, yellow vest, headphones, oven mitts and Ugg-style boots will do the trick.

17. The Babadook

The Babadook's look really only requires a black cloak or baggy black dress, black gloves and a creepy print-out or cut-out of the mask. His lady counterpart's look would entail a light-colored dress and sweater, white gloves and another mask!

18. Khaleesi from Game of Thrones

If your hair is not already bleach blond, you'll have to shell out some extra money for a wig to really complete the costume. Daenerys Targaryen's style changes drastically throughout the course of Game of Thrones, so you can really pick any Dany era to rock. If you can find a dragon plushie—or three—to carry around, that's even better.

19. Unicorn Frappuccino

The unicorn Frappuccino's popularity may have been short-lived, but yours won't be in this cute and colorful work of art. You can check out a short video tutorial for the costume here.

20. Meryl Streep Yelling Meme

Iconic. Have fun holding your hands to your mouth all night long, though.

21. Big Little Lies

If you're looking for an excuse to dress down for Halloween, here it is! The sleep mask is also the perfect way to escape conversations with weirdo randos at parties, BTW.

22. Elizabeth Warren

Bust out your business formal wardrobe and channel your inner boss lady attitude to fully embody Elizabeth Warren's look. Dress pants, glasses and a colorful blazer like this blue one are all you need.

23. Atomic Blonde

Atomic Blonde's look is so chic and classic, you'll be getting compliments all night. You likely already have a crisp white button down and a nice skirt or pants in your closet, so all you'll really need to invest in is an icy blond wig. Bonus points if you've got any of her moves under your belt.

24. Starter Pack Meme

The starter pack meme is huge, which means there are tons of options for you to pick from. Just wear or carry all of the things listed in the starter pack, and with a minor explanation, you'll have one of the most clever costumes wherever you go.

25. Mia from La La Land

You can rock Mia's iconic outfit by finding a classic yellow dress from a thrift shop or maybe a friend's closet. City of Stars, here I come!

Taylor Swift Fans Believe That the Baby in 'Gorgeous' Is Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds' Daughter

Taylor Swift's newest single "Gorgeous" is undoubtedly my favorite of songs released from the album Reputation so far. Even though she claims that there's a new, angrier Taylor, "Gorgeous" feels upbeat and positive in a way that feels like Taylor's old music. Amidst the rumors that the song is about Taylor's boyfriend Joe Alwyn, there's another theory buzzing around that the child saying "gorgeous" at the beginning of the song is Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' daughter James. Um, please tell me this is true!

Cosmopolitansays that there's a possibility of the truth leaking out, as Taylor confirmed on Tumblr that fans invited to recent listening sessions in London and Rhode Island know who the baby is.

A comment on the Twitter thread reporting the session secret claims that everything points to the adorable voice being James after a fan reportedly leaked the truth. A Blake Lively fan account has also picked up on the news, further fueling the speculation.

The voice belonging to James is pretty feasible, as Taylor and Blake are known to be close friends. Blake and Ryan attended Taylor's infamous 2016 Fourth of July party, and the former Gossip Girl star recognized Taylor's birthday on Instagram last year. Tbh, I would love to believe that my visions of Aunt Taylor coming over to bake with little James and Ines Reynolds were true.

Those not convinced about the James connection have guessed that the voice is Taylor's godson, Leo Thames, whose mom is her friend Jaime King. Some have even wondered if the baby is a toddler Taylor. Although most seem to believe that James is the one who contributed, it appears that Taylor will stay tight-lipped about the truth.

Don't tell A, but another Pretty Little Liars cast member is engaged!

Janel Parish, better known as Mona Vanderwaal on our fave show, took to Instagram on Monday to share an adorable AF photo of her longtime boyfriend (and now fiancé!), Chris Long and announce that the two are now engaged.

"Went to the park for a stroll with Klee and came back with a fiancé. I get to marry my best friend and I’m over the moon. I love you @c_long," the actress captioned the photo. Not only did Long propose in basically the cutest way possible, by getting on one knee during a stroll in the park with their dog Kleo, but the guy nailed it with the ring choice too.

I can’t stop staring at it. I mean... @jeandousset you out did yourself And @c_long you did GOOD.

A post shared by Janel Parrish (@janelparrish) on

According to Us Weekly Parrish and Long celebrated their first anniversary in September and #CoupleGoals, am I right?

Meanwhile, we'll be seeing plenty more of Parrish outside of the 'gram too — she'll be starring alongside Sasha Pieterse in a PLL spinoff called The Perfectionists, and we're already counting down the days until it premieres.

I'm Sharing My #MeToo Story For the First Time

$

As a young woman, I never thought I would be able to share this story or care to. Still, even to this day, I must remain anonymous, because my sexual abuser was a  member of the community, celebrated for his contributions to the education system and involvement in extra-curricular activities. My choice to remain anonymous is not a result of my own personal shame, which I had felt for many years, but my choice to protect myself in a time where women are still victim shamed for faults that are not their own.

This person was someone who others admired and celebrated as a top-notch educator. For a while, I believed it too, until I came to realize the reality of the situation. With all the #metoo statuses being posted to Facebook lately and the accusations towards Harvey Weinstein finally coming to light, I have felt more inclined than ever to be vocal about my sexual abuse experience.

This went on for almost five years of my middle and high school career. It started as innocently as I can remember. At first, he probably did just see me as a student, but when puberty hit, I remember a sudden shift in dynamic that I was unaccustomed to, but accepted, because I trusted him. I assumed the respect and platonic friendship was a mutual trust. I trusted the man that others knew by nickname and community members celebrated as a beautiful soul.

I was fooled into believing the same. When I began to realize what was happening between us, I considered that good people do bad things and he wasn’t in fact a bad person. I thought it was my fault. I thought my personality was to blame for his response to my body. I am still unsure what I believe in. I believe in the power of forgiveness, and I have forgiven him within myself, though I haven’t talked to him since after I told the school about his abuse. Through therapy, I have learned to let go and realize that I am a survivor. I have realized that though my past has made me a product of my present, my story can be changed according to my ability to release my past and change my outlooks.

I remember an evening we had practice. He was sitting at a desk. I had come back from a week-long trip. He was excited to see me, and shoved a ton of papers across the table, flipping it over dramatically. He ran towards me and picked me up. I found it odd and was a bit scared by the advance, but accepted it as I let him carry me in his arms and guide me around the room.

There were other times when he would kiss me and tell me that it was okay, but that others didn’t need to know. I thought I was special to him, like a daughter. That’s another reason I blamed myself for the relationship for a long time. Though I might’ve been special or talented, I second-guessed it for many years after until I recently sought out therapy. I questioned my true abilities, wondering if his praise had just been a result of my physical being.

I remember asking the police officer who was involved in my case, “Was he in love with me?”

“I believe yes,” he said.

I was stunned. His agreement made me sick to my stomach. I had not asked for this. I had always truly believed this man was a mentor and friend to me, nothing else. I was so young. I was not even thinking about sex. I had always been career-focused. I barely knew what sex was and I thought kissing was gross. Shared saliva with my first boyfriend literally made me break up with him and cry. I wasn’t ready for anything outside of friendship with anyone. I didn’t have the ability to recognize that sort of relationship, nor did I want it at that point.

I wondered why I let him grope me and didn’t question it. I wondered why I let him stare at my crotch and breasts. It didn’t feel good any of the times these things happened. I wondered why I didn’t let him know that I saw him doing these things. It made me feel sort of sick, but I was scared that if I said anything to him about it, or anyone, that he would expel me from the extra-curricular activities I so enjoyed, which is why I waited until the end of my high school experience to say anything. That, and he began to involve a person I loved in the abuse whenever I started to ignore him. I wasn’t about to let him do what he was doing to me to someone else. I didn’t want them to feel the pain I was feeling too. I felt protective of my friend. Why couldn’t I have done the same for me earlier? Why couldn’t I have seen it earlier? Would it have made anything better, though?

I took an independent study session with him. I remember him treating me to lunch, bringing me coffee from the teacher’s lounge, cheering louder at my name than other students in his class when it was announced I had made it on prom court and giving me special gifts throughout the year. I remember the times he stalked me home and approached me about it later, asking why I didn’t let him give me a ride to my house. I remember being in his car and feeling chills down my spine when he said, “Why don’t we just drive away together? Wouldn’t that be great?” I remember him forcing me to write an essay about my feelings for a grade when I refused to tell him about my feelings. I remember hiding in the computer lab when I should’ve been in his class and not feeling any remorse for it, a feeling I would’ve otherwise had with a respectable professional.

I am so glad to have made it out of this situation without it progressing to rape or further sexual trauma. I realize many women have not shared this outcome in their sexual abuse histories. I have been traumatized by mine, emotionally, ever since it happened. My experience had ruined many relationships for me over the years, both with friends and romantically. I felt unable to trust. After the situation was finally made clear to authority figures, I had my first panic attack. I had many ensuing over the next few years that only got worse as time went on.

My history of sexual abuse made me unable to accept attention or gifts from men I actually cared about and wanted to love or be intimate with. It made me scared to receive simple gifts like flowers or candies. My experience made me shut down around authority figures and feel incapable of speaking to them without fear they would manipulate or abuse me. The toll my sexual abuse had on my psyche felt unchangeable, until I decided to seek help with therapy and anxiety medication. My sexual abuse made me think that sex of any kind was completely wrong and should not be enjoyed.

The first time I attempted to have sex, these feelings surfaced, and, from there, I let myself be manipulated further by my first sexual partner, because I thought it was what I deserved. At first, I believed he was good, and based my entire opinion off of a great first impression. So when he asked me to do things that were out of my comfort zone, I went numb and did so anyway. I sacrificed more of myself for his comfort.

I am not proud of my history, but I am not ashamed. I am no longer sad about the things I can’t control or what occurred in my past. I am angry it happened. He should be ashamed. Not me. What happened to me has led me to the present, and a new awakening within myself. My sexual abuse has made me stronger. I am not glad it happened, but I am glad that I have learned from it, reported it when I did, and to let go of it now so that I can help others overcome their own emotional traumas in writing.

Through therapy and meeting positive encouragers in my life that I now know I can trust, I now feel I have the capacities and tools to recognize bad situations and people. I know how to trust my gut. Though I am still overcoming years of trust issues, things are progressing for me. Progress is a lifelong journey. I will always be grateful to have started this journey in my early twenties, rather than later in life.

I went through a terrible depression earlier this year, in which the flashbacks of my sexual abusers came back and made all of the other things I had been going through worse: Overcoming bad relationships and flighty men, lacking purpose due to unemployment, losing passion for my work, and feeling like a failure after moving back in with my parents. I had everything I thought I wanted, and, yet, I was empty. I didn’t recognize myself. Now I finally remember the trigger point and have learned to disable it. He no longer controls me. My sexual abuse does not control me. I decide for me, because I am a survivor. I am not what has happened to me. I am not my past. What has happened to me is over. My danger is not present, and that fact relieves lingering anxieties. Some men are worthy of being trusted. Some people are. I just must be aware and care for myself first and foremost.

So many women are told to hide their sexual abuse. I know I was. While I was being told to hide, he went around telling peers I was mentally unstable, and I believed this of myself for a while. I wondered if it was true—am I bipolar? No, that was his excuse for his actions. It was what he chose to believe in order to not feel the shame he should so feel to this day. I will never receive an apology, nor am I waiting or do I expect to.

I questioned everything for a long, long time, falling into more emotionally manipulative situations as a result. My sexual abuse is not my fault. My truth is valid. Though I would imagine he would still deny his faults to this day, I forgive him for his inability to do so. Carrying any other feeling is an emotional burden I do not wish upon myself, nor anyone who has gone through similar histories. We don't all need to forgive and forget. We must face it. We must face ourselves, care for ourselves and nurture ourselves with conscious thought and beauty.

We must love ourselves and in the spirit of feminism and equality, our fellow womankind, now more than ever. While our president has been shown in media grabbing women by the pussy, we must will ourselves to fight back and not be silenced by people that refuse to face the reality of their actions or others’. The reality is that almost all of my female Facebook friends have written a “me too” status in the past three days. Those statistics are too jarring to ignore.

Do you hear me, Mr. President? I dare you to own up to your faults with womankind and ask for forgiveness for all of the “me too” statuses you may have caused across the world. I dare this of all abusers. Show your humanity and stop the vileness that is sexual abuse. Sexual abuse is not human nature. Sexual abuse is human crime.

J.K. Rowling's Original 'Harry Potter' Pitch Letter Has Just Been Made Public & I'm Not Crying, You Are

Get ready for some major ~feels~ to hit, because it's officially been 20 years since the release of the very first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone — do you feel old yet? Because same.

To celebrate, Hello Giggles reports that The British Library in London is showing an exhibition called, "Harry Potter: A History of Magic," looking back on two decades of Hogwarts — and in case you weren't already feeling nostalgic enough, it features (for the first time ever!) J.K. Rowling's original pitch letter to publishers for the first Harry Potter book.

While some changes were eventually made from the original, the foundation is still the same — and TBH reading it is making me emotional.

"The Dursleys’ greatest fear is that Harry will discover the truth about himself, so when letters start arriving for him near his eleventh birthday, he isn’t allowed to read them," Rowling's pitch letter reads. "However, the Dursleys aren’t dealing with an ordinary postman, and at midnight on Harry’s birthday the gigantic Rubeus Hagrid breaks down the door to make sure Harry gets to read his post at last. Ignoring the horrified Dursleys, Hagrid informs Harry that he is a wizard, and the letter he gives Harry explains that he is expected at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in a month’s time."

Rowling's original story idea even mentioned the now *iconic* characters of Ron and Hermoine. "Harry makes friends with Ronald Weasley (sixth in his family to go to Hogwarts and tired of having to use second-hand spellbooks) and Hermione Granger (cleverest girl in the year and the only person in the class to know all the uses of dragon’s blood). Together, they have their first lessons in magic — astronomy up on the tallest tower at two in the morning, herbology out in the greenhouses."

Now that we've grown up being obsessed with both the books and movies for basically the entirety of our childhoods, it's hard to imagine that this is also the pitch letter that was rejected by 12 other publishers before Rowling finally signed it — and I'm not crying, you are.

The Best Scary Halloween Costumes

$

Do you prefer haunted houses to bobbing for apples? How about fake blood over candy corn? If you know what Halloween is really about (scaring people!), then we've got some super-spooky costume ideas for you. We've compiled a list of the most terrifying costumes imaginable with you in mind. We know even the biggest horror junkies among us like to look amazing when we go out, so we've put together a bunch of costumes that are scary but still tasteful!

1. Zombie

This Halloween, undead is the new black. The zombie look is easy to create if you don't mind applying a little makeup! The best part about zombie costumes is that you can make them out of practically any outfit. Want to show some school pride? Dress as a zombie cheerleader and rock some undead school spirit! Maybe dancing is more your style? Try dressing as an undead ballerina!

No matter what outfit you choose, the makeup is what's going to sell the costume. Make yourself pale and sickly looking (think gray and pale-green face paint), then add fresh bite marks, bruises and rotten wounds all over your body. You can find makeup to create the perfect zombie costume at any Halloween store. Don't forget to get creative with this one—we can't wait to see a zombie professor or an undead barista!

2. Vampire

Vampires are some of the hottest monsters around. This costume has the added benefit of being one where you can dress in a fun, sexy outfit and not have to give up dressing as a blood-sucking creature. Play up on this unique balance of sexy and scary—make sure to pair dark, dramatic clothing with tons of fake blood. Wear a complete purple lace gown, or stick to a tight burgundy shirt or black corset-style top and leather pants if you want to go as a more modern vampire.

You're going to need some fangs, a bunch of fake blood and maybe even a victim! Don't forget dramatic makeup to finish off the look. Remember, vampires are dead, too, so go pale and sunken on the face, and make your eyes really pop with lots of dark, smokey makeup. For an even spookier look, you can try some purple colored contacts!

3. Bloody Mary

Remember when you used to scare yourself silly at sleepovers when you and your friends tried to summon Bloody Mary in the dark? There are a ton of different versions of the legend, but most involve a mirror, a murder and a ghostly woman covered in blood. No matter what version you whispered about as a child, there is no denying that Bloody Mary was one of the most terrifying things you could think of.

If you don't mind the sight of fake blood, this could be the costume for you. Dress in all white, including white face paint, to make yourself look as ghostlike as possible. Then, it's time for the blood! Splatter fake blood over absolutely every piece of clothing you're wearing, and add some blood to your face as well. Finish the look with a handheld mirror and a plastic knife covered in fake blood, and you've become every preteen girl’s worst nightmare.

4. Medusa

Channel your inner femme fatale with this costume! Medusa is a legendary woman with a glance that was said to turn men to stone. According to legend, Medusa's hair was full of snakes, so there's some really cool potential with this outfit.

Try dressing in gauzy shades of green and gray to evoke a statuesque feeling, and wear dramatic makeup in similar shades. The most fun part, though, is the hair! Section your hair into lots of tiny ponytails, and use temporary hair dye to make your whole head green. Spray dye will work great because it gives your hair good hold. Shape each section into a little twist, and soon you'll have a head full of snakes. You could even get some little toy snakes and weave them in, too!

5. Siren

Digging the reference to Greek mythology (hey, classics majors!) but not sure that Medusa is your style? Dress as a Siren! The Sirens were infamous because of their haunting, enchanted singing voices, which they used to lure men to their deaths. Although they sounded like beautiful women from afar, legend says that they were actually huge, terrifying half-birds. That just means that your costume has to include feathers and maybe a beak!

When doing your makeup for this outfit, make sure you add some eyeliner wings to get a bit of an avian look or think along the lines of the eye makeup from Black Swan. Wear some fitted clothing to up the sex appeal—a shell bra could be perfect here—and stick to blues and greens since these creatures lived on cliffs overhanging the ocean. Find a way to work in feathers, whether that means creating your own wings via a hot glue gun or just adding a feather boa to the outfit. Carry a small musical instrument, like a toy harp or lyre, that you can use to lure in men and finish off the look!

6. Headless Anything

If you feel like going for a slightly goofy approach, try going as a headless person! There are many variations on this costume, and they're all pretty hilarious—and terrifying! Most of them involve stuffing a fake body that rises above your shoulders with your head peeping out from somewhere in the middle. Arrange the arms of the shirt as if you're holding your own head, and you'll be sure to get a lot of horrified looks!

This costume gives you tons of creativity, too. Go as a headless waitress, a headless sorority girl, a headless bride, a headless soccer player... or release your inner history major with a headless Marie Antoinette! If you name it and can imagine the costume, then go for it.

7. Graduation Day

Let's be honest, collegiettes, all the scary costumes we've suggested above pale in comparison to this one! It's hard to imagine something scarier than graduating from college. All that free time, and no more dorm sleepovers and frat parties? Terrifying. Prepare yourself for the big day now by dressing up in your cap and gown this Halloween. Get creative, too, and look a little further than graduation. A great group costume is to dress as what you want to be when you grow up. You and all your friends can dress as your dream (or nightmare!) professions.

So collegiettes, are you ready to let your scary side loose? Let us know what you think of these ideas.

HC Wake-Up Call: Pentagon Documents Contradict Trump's Claims, Puerto Rican Evacuees Forced to Leave Behind Pets & Sex Toy Heists

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

Leaked Documents From the Pentagon Contradict Trump's Claims About Calling Military Families

Following President Trump's claims last week that previous presidents didn't contact as many families of deceased service members as he had, reports based on leaked Pentagon documents published by Roll Call and the Atlantic suggest that many of the POTUS's claims were false. Documents also suggest that the White House did not have an updated list of military casualties when the president made the comments at a press conference last week — and many military families have confirmed they have only just received letters from Trump after their family members died months ago. Not a good look.

Evacuees in Puerto Rico Are Being Forced to Leave Pets Behind, Or Not Leave at All

Due to federal regulations on planes leaving San Juan, many Puerto Ricans are being forced to leave their pets behind in order to evacuate following Hurricane Maria. The Daily Beast reports that the U.S. government has placed restrictions on cargo in planes to and from Puerto Rico in order to maximize the amount of supplies being brought to the country. Because of this, animals larger than 20 pounds are not being allowed to fly. Pet Friendly Puerto Rico estimates that 2,000 people have already left animals behind as a result of the policy and animal shelters are above full capacity.

Someone in Germany Stole $60,000 Worth of Sex Toys

The jury is out on what someone could possibly do with that many vibrators, but in any case, Teen Vogue reports that thieves in Germany ran off with $60,000 worth of stolen sex toys from Fun Toys London, which was exhibiting its offerings in Berlin when the robbery happened. Apparently, it's the largest recorded sex toy heist on record — because, you know, this is something that happens regularly.

What to look out for...

Katy Perry turns 33 tomorrow, so if you need us, we'll just be over here belting "Teenage Dream" (a classic, TBH) all day long.

I Tried Peace Out Acne Healing Dots For a Week & These Were My Results

Who hasn’t been told to love the skin you're in? A common phrase, but way easier said than done. It's one thing to say that you’re confident, yet it's an entirely different thing to actually beconfident. Personally, I know that I’m not quite as confident as I should be when it comes to my skin. While I project that I’m a generally confident person, waking up with an unsightly pimple in the middle of my forehead, a bad hair day or even being bloated can seriously impact the way that I feel. Sure, a lot of this has to do with the unrealistic societal standards that I have unwillingly adopted, and I've allowed them to influence the way that I view myself.

One of society’s greatest stigmas is around acne. Sure, I think that we’ve progressed past that middle school point of actually pointing and staring about the spots on someone's face, but acne is not something we necessarily accept, especially as beautiful. When we were growing up, we didn’t see our favorite Disney channel stars with a whiteheads on their forehead or natural-looking skin, and it was taught to us pretty early on that any blemishes on our faces were something that should be fixed immediately.

The US alone spends over $1 billion on acne products every year, a statistic that makes it pretty apparent that the common mentality surrounding acne is that it needs to be fixed. In high school I struggled with acne, and it generally showed its ugly head right around my time of the month. (Side note––can we just talk about how much hormonal acne sucks?) I think I must have tried seemingly every acne product on the market. Every time my acne would flare up, I would run to the nearest drug store and buy whatever overpriced product that salesperson was willing to sell to me, based on my desperation. I would use it for the month, thinking that it was working after my acne would decrease and after my period was over. Then, the next month, when my acne came back, I would get upset, thinking that it was the fault of the new product, and buy something else. Not only was this practice breaking the bank, but it actually wasn’t good for my skin. It never allowed for it to adjust to a product, thus constantly putting it in a state of limbo. When I got to university, I went on the birth control pill after a doctor recommended it to finally beat my acne once and for all. While the pill did drastically improve my acne situation during three weeks of every month, leaving my skin almost spot-less, I still broke out around my period. Even now, every month I seem to get used to not having acne, but get surprised when it comes back each time like clockwork.

Needless to say, when Her Campus offered me the opportunity to try Peace Out Acne Healing Dots ($19 at Sephora), I jumped at it.

When I first learned what Peace Out Acne Healing Dots (POAHD), I loved the idea of them. They’re not meant to replace skincare; you’re still going to need to use a daily cleanser, exfoliator, etc. They’re meant to fix your acne afterit has happened, which was such an appealing concept to me.

Before POAHD, I knew when a zit would be coming. As if running out to the store at 11 p.m. to buy tampons wasn't a good enough indicator, I could usually tell the night before when a small bump will turn into a massive whitehead the next day (sorry for the TMI). Usually, when I would come to this realization, I tried every face mask I owned, lost hope and started to pick at it, which we all know is the biggest no-no when it comes to treating acne. When the time came to try POAHD, I opened my first package of the dots. They look like small, flesh-colored stickers, and are lined up on a thin piece of plastic, allowing you to pull off each one individually and store the rest in a sealed bag. I popped a few of the dots on brewing zits and went to sleep, unsure of what to expect in the morning.

Here’s the description of POAHD on Sephora’s website:

“These patent-pending acne dots are the first and only treatment to combine hydrocolloid technology with blemish-fighting actives. Infused with salicylic acid to kick acne-causing bacteria to the curb, they also contain vitamin A to help support natural skin turnover and aloe vera to soothe redness. Hydrocolloid technology extracts impurities while creating a protective barrier that guards against external irritants. By protecting your blemishes from bacteria, inflammation, and picking, these dots also reduce the potential for acne scarring. Whether you're struggling with hormonal acne, whiteheads, or inflamed pimples, your blemish is less red, less painful, and significantly less irritating in as little as six hours.”

These were definitely some big words to live up to. Yet, I was shocked the next morning when I peeled the dots off and discovered that they actually stayed true to their claim. The whiteheads, which previously would have been in their full glory without the spots, were drastically reduced and smaller than they were the night before. However, progressively throughout the day, they started to refill again. By the end of the next day (while they were nowhere near the size that they would have usually been) there were still alive and kicking.

This is the first trend that I saw with the dots: they’ll reduce the size of your whiteheads for a few days, each day making the spot smaller and smaller until its' completely gone. However, the spot is always smallest in the morning right after the healing dot has been used, and biggest at night right before using another healing dot. While it's effective to continue to use the healing dots each day, it's important to note that you only get 20 dots in the $19 package, meaning that each dot comes out to slightly less than a dollar.

The next hurdle that I faced, which I expanded on more in my video was filming without any makeup on. As soon as I agreed to do this project, I got a sinking feeling––how was I going to show improvements on my skin while wearing makeup? The only possible way to complete this project would be to show my face on camera and to the world while not wearing any makeup. After starting a Youtube channel completely surrounding my love of makeup and, more importantly, my love of wearing makeup, doing the complete opposite in such a public way was terrifying. Not only did it force me to show what my actual skin looked like without anything to cover it, but I had to show what my eyebrows look like while not filled in (which is a very 2017 problem, I know). When “Instagram brows” became a trend a couple of years ago, I took to over plucking my naturally full brows in order to create that “dramatic” look, under the belief that no one would see me without them filled in anyway…. which turned out to be very poor logic.

Over the course of the week, I saw a drastic improvement with the POAHD. While they only affected the specific spots themselves and did not impact my overall skin, they did wonders for my self-confidence. I know that it's corny to say and embarrassing to admit at 21, but I still get transported back to the hellish middle school days when I felt like I couldn’t control my face every time a giant zit poppped up. I know I can’t be the only one who feels as though everyone is staring at their zit all day long, and undoubtedly spending more time out of my day focusing on it than anyone else. With POAHD, I feel as though I finally found a solution to these somewhat uncommon spots that I previously didn’t know what to do with.

Here's the before and after results from the experiment.

I would definitely recommend these spots to anyone who wants to target specific areas of their face, and like any good millennial, is desperate for a quick fix when it comes to acne. Now the only problem is, why can’t I buy these in Canada?
