Malala Yousafzai Just Got Shamed for Wearing Jeans & The Internet Needs to Quit Already

Malala Yousafzai is an iconic leader when it comes to standing up for women’s rights. Needless to say, when the bright young 20-year-old updated the world about her new life as an Oxford freshman last Monday, we were thrilled.

Her continual fight for a better education for herself and other women is fearless, and we can all take a few points from her. Unfortunately, some people weren’t too interested in Malala’s intellectual achievements, but rather something society is typically more worried about when it comes to women. You probably guessed it, it’s her body.

According to Teen Vogue, a Pakistani news outlet released a photo of what is supposedly Malala, and in it she's wearing a green bomber jacket, dark jeans and ankle boots. Although the outfit seems normal for a young woman to wear in the U.K., trolls combusted at the sight of her in Western clothing. Some rushed to criticize, while some rushed to Malala's defense.

People were terribly harsh on how Malala, an intelligent and revolutionary young woman, should present her own body. While the public’s opinions are split on her outfit's "appropriateness," the bigger question to ask is why does it matter what she wears at all? Ultimately, it was Malala’s own personal choice to wear traditional clothing in Pakistan, just as it’s her own choice to wear jeans on the streets of Oxford. She has done so much from such a young age to better the lives of women, and she is now attending one of the most prestigious universities in the world. But is it really a surprise that people were more concerned with her clothing choice rather than her incredible intellectual and social achievements? Unfortunately, no, it’s really just another case of society’s preoccupation with a womens' bodies.

We hope that Malala continues to dress according to her own sense of fashion and pays no mind to the haters, just like we all should. She continues to serve as an awesome example of owning who you are and your values, and presenting yourself in whatever way you feel comfortable. GIRL. POWER.

Ellen DeGeneres Had Dain Yoon As a Guest on Her Show, & The Results Were Uncomfy

Do you have that one friend that is just extra about everything? The one who takes forever to get ready when you’re probably just going to the grocery store? Hey, there’s no shame in the game, we’ve all been there before. But no one can match the level of extra that is Dain Yoon, a viral makeup artist from Seoul, who dazzled/horrified us all on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week.

Yoon has created a large fanbase for herself through the outrageous makeup creations she shares on Instagram. Her makeup acts more like an optical illusion than anything else, painting on multiple pairs of eyes and lips that definitely deserve double takes on the street. Yes, on the street, because she actually wears this makeup out. Yoon admitted to Ellen that she did, in fact, make a baby cry one time, which, honestly, would probably be our response too.

A post shared by Dain Yoon 윤다인 (@designdain) on

Even more notable than Yoon’s trippy makeup is her level of confidence. She told Ellen that she’s her own canvas because she “loves herself so much.” In fact, she loves herself enough that she actually hand painted her face on each of her nails (with her real hair included). Talk about a look. Yoon even took the time to paint a set of nails with Ellen's face as well.

No matter how extra you are or aren’t, we could actually all strive to be a little more like Dain Yoon. She said it best: “I use my body as a canvas because I want to use the only canvas in the world that’s my body [me]”. Sure, you probably won’t see us gluing our hair to our nails anytime soon, but in the Yoon style, we might start viewing ourselves as canvases too. It's high time we all be proud of ourselves for what's unique and different, because that's what makes us beautiful.

'Playboy' Just Announced Their First-Ever Transgender Playmate

With the recent passing of Hugh Hefner in September, Playboy has been receiving more publicity than ever with many people honoring his death. While the magazine may have had a questionable past, we're very excited by the recent announcement that Ines Rau will be gracing the November issue AND will be Playboy's first transgender Playmate.

As expected, there were mixed reactions after this news took to Twitter, inciting arguments in threads. Despite many men whining that their hegemonic masculinity feels threatened, most support Playboy’s news. After all, transgender women have actually graced the pages of Playboy since 1991, and Ines is just the first transgender model to have the title of~Playmate~.

Ines has proven to be an extremely successful. From runways to covers, she has practically done it all. Facing every societal barrier with elegance, she proudly embraces her identity. In her interview with Playboy, she encourages people to “be who [they] are. It’s a salvation to speak the truth about yourself, whether it’s your gender, sexuality, whatever.”

The 26-year-old model has no plans of slowing down, either. In the interview she explains, "I will always fight for LGBTQ rights and women’s rights, but above everything else, my cause is the environment...If I get famous, that’s my first battle.”

If Ines Rau has a flaw, we certainly can’t see it. She is the embodiment of strength, beauty and confidence. She is an inspiration for everyone to be unapologetically themselves, and we hope her status as a Playmate will inspire more brands to include transgender people in their narrative.

Anthony Scaramucci's Media Company's Creepy & Insensitive Holocaust Poll, Explained

$

0

Anthony Scaramucci, the former White House Communications Director (for all of two seconds 11 days), tweeted an insensitive poll about the Holocaust. By insensitive, we mean majorly anti-Semitic.

For anyone who might not follow @ScaramucciPost, the poll he posted on Twitter asked “How many Jews were killed in the Holocaust?” Though it might seem like a harmless question out a third-grader’s history textbook, that isn’t the case.

Scaramucci’s Twitter page is notorious for curating controversial and opinionated polls, which makes it seem like this Twitter poll was actually questioning the severity of the Holocaust itself.

The Washington Post explains that the poll, which was deleted 90 minutes after it was posted, also requested comments about an Anne Frank Halloween costume. It should go without saying how heartless that is, seeing as Anne Frank was a real person who died during the Holocaust and anything regarding the Holocaust should never be used as a costume (like, duh.)

However, @ScaramucciPost has since called anyone who found his offensive poll offensive a "mob." Despite insulting people by initially posting a Holocaust-denier-baiting poll and insulting those who find that anti-Semitic poll offensive, Scaramucci and company have since reinstated the poll (by claiming that they're trying to educate others).

Newsweek explains that Scaramucci decided to resubmit the poll, because the severity of the Holocaust is somehow becoming desensitized in society.

One of the admins of the account even said, “Please read all of the tweets today. This is @lancelaifer tweeting and I'm Jewish.”  As though having a single admin who is Jewish means their overall message can’t be offensive. (Not how that works.)

Regardless, it's a bit infuriating that "the Mooch" and his cohorts are attempting to play the victims, implying that anyone who doesn't agree with the poll is actually an anti-Semite. While Scaramucci and his team might actually have good intentions with their polls and attempts to encourage bipartisan dialogues, they might want to leave Holocaust education to qualified organizations like the Auschwitz Memorial and Museum

A White Former Cop Was Convicted for Killing His Daughter’s Black Boyfriend

A former Oklahoma police office, Shannon Kepler, was found guilty of three counts of first-degree manslaughter after he shot and killed his daughter’s boyfriend, the New York Post reports.

Kepler fatally shot his daughter’s boyfriend, Jeremey Lake, in 2014; however, he wasn’t convicted of this crime until Wednesday, during his fourth trial.

Why did his conviction take so long? The Washington Post explains that Kepler’s three previous trials were declared mistrials, because the juries were split. (Apparently, shooting and killing an innocent, unarmed man is a gray area for three separate juries to decide on a verdict.)

Though many believe the real reason the jurors may have been unable to come to a conclusion on Kepler’s case (regardless of the fact that he is very obviously guilty of murdering Lake) is that studies show that white people tend to perceive black men as more threatening. John Paul Wilson, an author of the study, explains toThe Washington Post that the authors used a plethora of profile photos, which consisted of black and white men, to determine how “strong” each individual appeared to the study’s participants.

“We found that these estimates were consistently biased. Participants judged the black men to be larger, stronger and more muscular than the white men, even though they were actually the same size,” Wilson says. Because the jurors were predominately white, these biases could have easily swayed some jurors’ verdicts –thus leading to the three hung trials. (Even though, Kepler’s self-defense plea got side-eye from many who considered Lake's death a hate crime.)

CBS News reports that back in 2014, Kepler told police that he shot Lake because he was armed with a semi-automatic weapon and was supposedly dangerous (despite the fact that investigators never found any weapons on or near Lake’s body). Regardless, Kepler still went with the self-defense claim.

While Kepler’s sentencing trial isn’t scheduled until Nov. 20, the jury in his fourth and final trial suggested he receive a 15-year sentence and a $10,000 fine, Broadly reports. (FYI, the maximum sentence for first-degree murder is life without parole.)

So it still remains to be seen whether justice will be served.

8 Halloween Costumes Every '90s Girl Remembers

$

Halloween is a great opportunity to dress up like today's celebs and fictional characters, but there's nothing like reliving our favorite decade on October 31. If you're dying to embark on a blast from the past, check out these eight costumes that every '90s girl will definitely remember.

1. Cher and Dionne from Clueless

To capture the essence of Cher and Dionne from the 1995 movie starring leading ladies Alicia Silverstone and Stacey Dash, be sure to track down a pair of plaid skirt/blazer combos, and don't forget the knee-high socks and matching handbags. To really top it off, replicate Dionne's—as Cher describes it—"Dr. Seuss" hat. A thrift shop is probably the best place to start your shopping.

2. The Spice Girls

This '90s pop sensation never fails as a group costume for five besties and leaves plenty of options for every type of getup, from modest to wild. Let the more reserved members of your group go as Baby Spice and Sporty Spice, and let your risk-taking friends go nuts with Scary Spice or Ginger Spice ensembles. To round out the group, Posh Spice gets to wear the highest heels, of course.

3. The Powerpuff Girls

Good for a group of three or as a solo costume, the Powerpuff Girls are a '90s girl's go-to. The degree of the costume can vary from something as simple as wearing the crime-fighting gals' signature colors to making cartoon eyes with plastic glasses to really sell it.

4. Lola Bunny from Space Jam

The most prominent female character from the 1996 classic, Lola Bunny is a fun costume if you want to resurrect the Looney Tunes. All you need is a "Toon Squad" jersey (homemade is perfectly acceptable), a cotton ball tail and some rabbit ears. Carrying a basketball around is a great touch if you want to add a prop.

5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Though Buffy didn't make her TV debut until 1997, her style was very '90s. Leather—especially red—is a must, whether it's the pants, the jacket or both. Throw in a wooden stake for good measure, and you're sure to be mistaken for Sarah Michelle Gellar.

6. Wayne and Garth from Wayne's World

If you want a throwback costume, it doesn't get any more '90s than Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar. A fun gender-bend idea for you and a friend, all you'll need is messy blonde hair and greasy, black hair plus the coordinating outfits. For Wayne, a black trucker hat, a plain black shirt and ripped loose jeans will complete the look, and Garth's outfit is just as simple. Pick any white band tee and throw on an unbuttoned flannel over it; then, add some black framed glasses. For added effect, carry around drumsticks or a fake guitar.

7. Fembots from Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

For someone looking for an edgier costume, the Fembots are a great way to show some skin. A pink slip dress—preferably with a fuzzy accent—will do, and be sure to get as much of a bee-hive going in your hair as possible to capture that '70s vibe.

8. Baywatch babes

Ever dreamed of running in slow motion on the beach? Dressing up like a Baywatch babe for Halloween is a good place to start. Buy a red one-piece swimsuit, and you're good to go. A matching life raft, whistle and any other lifeguard necessities are a nice final touch.

Lupita Nyong'o Has Come Forward With Her Own Story of Being Harassed by Harvey Weinstein

In a powerful op-ed she wrote for The New York Times earlier this week, Lupita Nyong'o added her own name to the list of over a dozen actresses that have come forward with allegations of sexual assault and harassment against producer Harvey Weinstein.

The Academy Award-winning actress opened the emotional piece explaining that she, like many others that have since come forward, including Cara Delevigne, Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, had never spoken up about what had happened to her because she felt alone and confused, blaming herself for much of what had happened. (A common response by many survivors of sexual assault, unfortunately.)

"But now that this is being discussed openly, I have not been able to avoid the memories resurfacing," Nyong'o writes. "I have felt sick in the pit of my stomach. I have felt such a flare of rage that the experience I recount below was not a unique incident with me, but rather part of a sinister pattern of behavior."

A post shared by Lupita Nyong'o (@lupitanyongo) on

Throughout the piece, Nyong'o describes multiple incidents, beginning when she was still just a student at Yale's drama school, in which Weinstein intimidated and coerced her — and what she describes follows many of the same horrifying patterns previously laid out by other actresses.

In one incident, Nyong'o says Weinstein invited her to a private screening of another studio's film at his home, where he eventually coerced her into his bedroom.

"Harvey led me into a bedroom — his bedroom — and announced that he wanted to give me a massage," Nyong'o says. "I thought he was joking at first. He was not. For the first time since I met him, I felt unsafe. I panicked a little and thought quickly to offer to give him one instead: It would allow me to be in control physically, to know exactly where his hands were at all times... Before long he said he wanted to take off his pants. I told him not to do that and informed him that it would make me extremely uncomfortable. He got up anyway to do so and I headed for the door, saying that I was not at all comfortable with that."

Following that incident, Nyong'o writes that she made the decision to stop accepting any of Weinstein's invitations to spaces in which they could potentially be alone — but things still didn't stop. Weinstein later invited her to a dinner, and Nyong'o was surprised to arrive to find out it would just be the two of them at the restaurant.

"Before the starters arrived, he announced: 'Let’s cut to the chase. I have a private room upstairs where we can have the rest of our meal.' I was stunned," Nyong'o remembers in her account. "I told him I preferred to eat in the restaurant. He told me not to be so naïve. If I wanted to be an actress, then I had to be willing to do this sort of thing. He said he had dated Famous Actress X and Y and look where that had gotten them."

Apparently her response angered the producer so much that he told her to leave before they'd eaten, telling her before she got into a cab, "I don’t know about your career, but you’ll be fine."

The New York Police Department has launched two sex crime investigations into Weinstein, who was removed from the Weinstein Company two weeks ago when the first allegations against him were made public in a New York Times story.

9 Reasons to Quit Your Job Even if You Love it

$

When you break down a career to its most fundamental level, Eileen Sharaga, a career counselor based out of NYC, says it’s comprised of a role and an industry, or a skillset and a subject matter. Some people have a passion for the subject matter (like health or education) while others have the skill set (like organizing data or writing) and need to figure out which subject matter they’ll fit into. When you’re lucky enough to have a job that you love, where your role is well-integrated into an industry you like, it can be hard to imagine ever wanting to leave. But sometimes even the most unexpected of circumstances arise that make it hard, or even downright impossible, to stay.

There are many qualities to a company or position that are likely to make you love your job: the people, the work, the technology or the pay. But sometimes negative factors, even the small ones, overshadow the great. Sometimes there’s nothing bad you could say about your job, but outside factors came together to play their part in making you consider leaving. Sometimes life just brings you to a crossroads you didn’t expect to reach. Here are nine reasons you might quit your job, even when you love it.

1. You want to jet set the world while you’re still young

There’s nothing wrong with it. Maybe you thought you’d save traveling for later when you were more settled and had a savings account, but you want to hike the Appalachian Trail while your knees are still good. Maybe you want to see the polar ice caps before they all melt away. Maybe you just want to hop on a plane and see where it takes you. Maybe your best friend wants you to accompany her on a backpacking trip across Eurasia.

Bethany Blundell, a graduate of New Mexico State University, left her campus job and turned down various job offers to travel. “While it's always been my dream to take time after graduation to travel, I never thought that I would actually go through with it,” she says. “Lucky for me, trips just kept popping up, and I kept saying yes.”

When the opportunity to travel pops up, it may be too good to refuse. Who knows when the next chance will come along?

2. You miss your family and want to move closer to home

One of the most exciting things about college for many people is moving away from home and starting to get your first taste of life on your own. For some, that life away remains exhilarating even after college, when you take your first steps into the workforce. For others, not being within dinner date distance might prove to be too much to bear.

This was one of multiple deciding factors for Laurie*, an alum of the University of Hartford. “I was about 12 hours away from my family, so I only got to go to some of our holiday things. And that was really hard, which I didn't expect,” she says. “Plus, I was eight hours from school, and five from my closest college friends.”

Even if your job seems perfect, you may find that it’s more worthwhile to find something closer to home.

3. You need to deal with your, or a family member’s, ill health

Similar to the previous point, if you, or a family member, falls ill to the point of needing help, whether you live near or far, leaving your job can be an important step to take in addressing a health crisis. Even if you love your job, and rarely feel stressed because of it, having to take on responsibilities such as doctor’s appointments, tests and medical schedules in addition to your work duties can quickly cause that to change. If you work it out with your boss, you may be able to arrange to have your job waiting for you. If not, it’s not the only one of its kind out there.

4. You work too much and need to find a balance

You may love what you do, but that doesn’t mean you’re not spending too much time on it. If you’re at the office past close every day and you don’t have time to meet up with your best friend for a breakfast date or to sit down for TGIT, you probably need to start making some changes.

Alani Vargas, a junior at Northwestern, worked at a bakery during her freshman year, where she loved her co-workers and the environment but hated the hours she had to keep. “As a freshman, I was working at least three week days, plus full shifts on Saturdays and Sundays,” she says. “I was able to work out a schedule that was more conducive to my school schedule, but it would still take me away from my friends and homework time, plus I was always tired. I started searching, and finally got a job with way better hours.”

Even if you have no complaints about what you’re doing, working too much is unhealthy. You probably need to consider cutting back or, if that seems impossible, finding something less time-consuming.

5. Your values don’t align with the company’s (or your manager’s)

As much as you may love the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities of your job, sometimes as you become more familiar with your workplace, you realize that everything isn’t necessarily as you expected it to be. Perhaps the company supports a political affiliation that you’re not sure you can work under. Perhaps some of your superiors seem to be a little bit sexist. Perhaps you and your officemates’ personalities clash too much to be productive. These are things you may not realize until you’ve immersed yourself in the culture of the company.

“I didn't feel like I was ‘up to snuff,’ which goes hand-in-hand with a management shakeup,” Laurie, a journalist, says. “I had an editor with whom I butted heads almost constantly. When he switched from nights to days, I decided once and for all that it was time to go.”

Steph Jackman, a senior at York College of Pennsylvania, had an internship with an advertising company doing work that she loved. “They took me on trips with them and paid for everything. They always catered lunch for us, too, because the CEO was so ‘caring’ and ‘giving.’ I realized soon after that this was all a cover-up for her treating a lot of the employees like crap,” she says. “It was incredibly difficult to leave because it was my first real ‘big-girl’ type of job, and I was extremely proud of myself for getting to that position so early in my life. The workload became too much, and some people were treating me like I was less than them.”

Jean*, an arts administrator at a theatre, is in a similar position of loving her job but hating the leadership and company politics. “It's frustrating because I know I am good at what I do and I have ways I want to advance the company but I am stifled by a selfish, power-hungry dictator in ways,” she says. "I've kind of been sucking it up, but it's really starting to eat away at me as a person. If I've learned anything over the past few months, it’s that you have to be happy with what you're doing—not just happy sometimes.”

Sharaga suggests, “If you love what you do, but you don’t like where you’re doing it, that’s very clear. Move to another company; you’re only stuck when you’re much older and you have a mortgage and your skillset doesn’t translate to another company. When you’re young, that’s when you can leave.”

Even if you love what you’re doing on your own, if any of the aforementioned make you less productive, it may be better to move on.

6. Your SO got a new job that requires him or her to move

If your significant other is offered an amazing new opportunity in their career, but it requires them to move far away, you’re probably going to be faced with the difficult decision of “Should I stay or should I go?” and while long distance may be achievable, you may find yourself having to decide if your job or your relationship is more important.

Sharaga says, “A woman once came to me who had moved to New York with her boyfriend, who thought she might be in need of a career shift and ended up hating the job she found. Sometimes when you love a specific thing about one job, and you find another, that thing doesn’t always replicate itself in the new job, so you have to be clear about what you’re working for. If you’re on a great career path and you love your job, leaving the position or the industry can be a great risk, but if there’s greater opportunity where you’re going and you think it could offer something more, then do it.”

There’s nothing wrong with choosing your job, but there’s nothing wrong with leaving it behind, either.

7. You’ve become complacent and need to find something more challenging

Have you been doing your job for a while? Have you run out of new things to learn, bordering on boredom with the same tasks day in and day out? If you can’t take on new roles or challenges with what you’re doing now, it’s probably time to find something that will allow you to grow outside of your comfort zone, increase your skill set and come across something new to do every now and again.

Andreia McLean, a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, used to work as a PR/Marketing Coordinator for an event design company. “I was a part of this incredibly talented team, and running social media, blogging, and networking for a company that worked on events like World MasterCard Fashion Week and the Much Music Video Awards was the experience of a lifetime, but the company was really small and despite making all sorts of grand plans, it became clear at some point that my position wasn't going to grow from what it was,” she says. “It was a difficult decision but the right move for me in the long run.”

Another thing that Andreia pointed out was that she left her company despite not having something else lined up yet because she wanted to leave on good terms. It’s always good to ensure that you leave an open door when you go, but even if you have no plans to return to the company, you never know when you may work for or with your old superiors or coworkers again; you don’t want to leave any bad blood in your wake.

“You need to figure out what is blocking you from moving forward; is it yourself? The company?” Sharaga says. “One of the biggest things I hear from the older population is that the work they do is not meaningful, but meaning comes from finding the right setting. For example, if you’re an elementary teacher and you want to make an impact on the lives of kids but you’re stifled by a poor school system due to rules and administrative quagmires.” Do you stay and do your best, despite the rules, to help those kids, or do you find a new school district? The answers aren’t always so clear-cut.

8. You’re not making the money you need

Much as we hate to admit it, money makes the world go ‘round. Even if you love what you do, if you’re not making a livable wage, something’s gotta give. If you can’t get your superiors to agree to a raise for the position you’re already in, it’s time to move on to something that is going to allow you to live without having to do so paycheck to paycheck.

9. You want to go back to school

This last one goes hand in hand with the previous two. There are tons of reasons why someone may choose to further their education, but two common reasons are the need for a further degree in order to raise your salary or become qualified for another position. You don’t necessarily have to quit your job in order to return to school, but you may want to dedicate more of your time to earn that degree.

Sharaga warns to take the time to think a decision like this through first, though. “Going back to school if you know what you’re doing it for is great, but you need to be clear about why you’re getting an advanced degree – it’s very expensive, and if you’re doing it just because, you should really think it through.”

Laurie’s final advice? “Be conscious of how your job makes you feel, and don't be afraid to make a change if you have to. I love journalism more than anything, but when I started dreading work in the morning, I knew it was time for a change,” she says. “I was terrified to meet with my managing editor, but when I handed in my notice it was an overwhelming feeling of relief.”

Jean says, “I'm in the process of learning to accept my feelings of uncertainty and trust my gut... it's not easy to do when you're our age and you actually have a job. You don't want to come off as an entitled millennial—but you always have to do what is best for you. Quite often, I push away thoughts of leaving this job because I feel bad for the position I’ll put my supervisor in, but I need to stop thinking like that because you can't start worrying about everyone else or how your company will suffer. That's how you get trapped!”

Don’t be afraid to do what feels right for you. If you love your day-to-day but hate where you’re doing it, or if something else in your life feels more important at this time, it’s okay to step away. In the end, all you can do is what feels right to you, but you shouldn’t hold on to a job just because you love it. There will always be others.

An Appeals Court Has Blocked a Teenage Undocumented Immigrant from Having an Abortion

A D.C. appeals court has blocked a 17-year-old pregnant undocumented immigrant from receiving an abortion in a 2-1 decision, maintaining a Trump administration policy of not facilitating abortions for undocumented minors in government custody, The Washington Post reports.

Long story short, the teenager, who is identified in court papers as "Jane Doe," is 15 weeks pregnant and has been in government custody since September, after she was caught attempting to cross the border into the United States. She is currently being held at a shelter in Texas for undocumented minors caught entering the country illegally. According to BuzzFeed News, while the shelter itself has said it has no problem releasing her for the procedure, the Trump administration has refused to give it the necessary permissions to allow Doe to leave.

While a Texas state judge ruled earlier that the teenager could get an abortion without parental permission required by Texas law, the D.C. appeals court has reversed the decision, and instead has given the Department of Health and Human Services until October 31 to find a sponsor, who would be able to make medical decisions for Doe, to take custody of her.

Because Doe is 15 weeks pregnant and Texas bans abortion after 20 weeks, she is already running out of time to have the procedure altogether. As her lawyers have already pointed out, finding a sponsor, which includes running extensive background checks, can take weeks — much more time than Doe has to spare.

"She’s already suffered weeks of delays, which the government has no business doing," Jennifer Dalven, a lawyer with the ACLU, told The Washington Post.

Doe's lawyers have said that they are not asking the government to pay for the procedure or transportation to the clinic.

“There are no winners in cases like these. But there sure are losers," Judge Patricia A. Millett, who wrote the case's dissenting opinion, said. "Forcing her to continue an unwanted pregnancy just in the hopes of finding a sponsor that has not been found in the past six weeks sacrifices J.D.’s constitutional liberty, autonomy, and personal dignity for no justifiable governmental reason."

If a sponsor is not found for Doe by the deadline of October 31, the case would revert to the state court's decision and the government would be required to facilitate an abortion for the 17-year-old, "without delay."

Taylor Swift Fans Believe That the Baby in 'Gorgeous' Is Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' Daughter

$

Taylor Swift's newest single "Gorgeous" is undoubtedly my favorite of songs released from the album Reputation so far. Even though she claims that there's a new, angrier Taylor, "Gorgeous" feels upbeat and positive in a way that feels like Taylor's old music. Amidst the rumors that the song is about Taylor's boyfriend Joe Alwyn, there's another theory buzzing around that the child saying "gorgeous" at the beginning of the song is Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' daughter James. Um, please tell me this is true!

Cosmopolitansays that there's a possibility of the truth leaking out, as Taylor confirmed on Tumblr that fans invited to listening sessions in her London and Rhode Island know who the baby is.

A comment on the Twitter thread reporting the session secret claims that everything points to the adorable voice being James after a fan reportedly leaked the truth. A Blake Lively fan account has also picked up on the news, further fueling the speculation.

The voice belonging to James is pretty feasible, as Taylor and Blake are known to be close friends. Blake and Ryan attended Taylor's infamous 2016 Fourth of July party, and the former Gossip Girl star recognized Taylor's birthday on Instagram last year. Tbh, I would love to believe that my visions of Aunt Taylor coming over to bake with little James and Ines Reynolds were true.

Those not convinced about the James connection have guessed that the voice is Taylor's godson, Leo Thames, whose mom is her friend Jaime King. Some have even wondered if the baby is a toddler Taylor. Although most seem to believe that James is the one who contributed, it appears that Taylor will stay tight-lipped about the truth.

Halloween is just around the corner, but whether you’ve picked out the perfect costume or are still desperately seeking the right disguise, you’re going to need an awesome makeup look to go with it. Whether you’re dressing up as a sexy cat or a scary zombie, we have the makeup look you’ll need to look awesome all night long.

1. Mischievous feline

If you’re dressing up as a mischievous cat for Halloween, this makeup look is simple and sexy. For an intense cat eye, apply smoky eye shadow and winged eyeliner (check out our tutorial here!). Marc Jacobs Beauty Tonite Lights Glitter Dust ($32) will create a smoky, sparkly look. Red lipstick can make the look even more stunning. Try NARS lipstick in Red Lizard ($26 at Sephora).

2. Playful angel

If you’re going to be a sweet angel for Halloween, you’re going to need some dainty makeup to go with it. Blue and white eye shadow can create a soft, powdery look, and adding on black eyeliner can make the look sexier if that’s what you’re going for. Estee Edit Metallishadow Crème + Powder in AquaNova ($25 at Sephora) will work perfectly. Add rhinestones to the corners of your eyes or underneath your eyes for a girly, glittery touch. A simple nude lipstick or clear lip gloss will do the trick for lips. Try Buxom True Nude Lip Foundation ($19 at Sephora) to find a nude that’s right for your skin.

3. Naughty devil

To achieve naughty devil makeup, metallic and red eye shadow will be your best friends! Cover your eyelid in red eye shadow and add darker, metallic colors (like black or gray) below your eyebrow. MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Shadow in Black Diamond and Steel ($21 at Sephora) will be great for the metallic eye shadows, while NYX’s Bad Seed will give you a bold red ($4.50 at NYX). Black eyeliner and heavy mascara will enhance your eyes even more. Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Eyeliner in Matte Black ($19 at Sephora) is a great liner to use because it’s waterproof and smudge-proof! Apply dark lipstick for an even naughtier look.

4. Scary zombie

If you’re going for a scarier look, try this zombie makeup! Apply a gray or black eye shadow to your entire eyelid and below your eye if you desire. Too Faced Smokey Eye Shadow Collection ($18) has the colors you’ll need. Black eyeliner will intensify the look, and false eyelashes will make your look even spookier. Make Up For Ever has a ton of options—type 31 (Carolyn) ($16 at Sephora) are extra long and dense, which will work great for many different looks. Black lipstick and shadowing on the face will top off your zombie look. For face makeup, use your black eye shadow to create grayish markings on your face. To make the look ever scarier, apply red lipstick for fake blood. Use black eyeliner for fake stitches if you want to go over the top.

5. Spooky witch

For spooky witch makeup that’s sure to impress anyone, try this shimmery green look! First, apply sparkly green eye shadow to your eyelids; try Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow in Zodiac ($20 at Sephora). Next, line your top eyelid with black eyeliner and apply plenty of mascara. Use false eyelashes for this look as well; rhinestone false eyelashes can be found on Amazon for $9.99! Or, for another dramatic look, apply gems onto the corners of your eyes. Darken your eyebrows for a harsher vibe by filling them in with Tarte’s EmphasEYES For Brows High Definition Eyebrow Pencil in Rich Brown ($20 at Sephora). Use red lipstick if you’re going for a sexy look or black lipstick if you’re going for a scary look. Voila!

6. Cute scarecrow

To change up the classic farmer look, all you need is adorable scarecrow makeup. Draw orange circles on your cheeks and nose with Orange Cream Makeup (only $1.99 at Party City!). Use black eyeliner to draw stitches on your nose and extending past the corners of your mouth. Draw “eyelashes” under your eyes as well.

7. Vicious vampire

For a blood-sucking look that’s still sexy, this vampire makeup is for you. First, cover your face with powder that’s lighter than your skin. Cover Girl TruBlend Minerals Loose Powder in a shade that’s right for you ($7.64 at Amazon) will work great. Next, use gray eye shadow around your eyes for a dark, mysterious look. Be sure to apply the eye shadow under your eyes as well. Use red lipstick on your lips and smudge it in order to create a bloodstained effect. To complete the look, wear Plastic Vampire Fangs (only $0.99 at Party City!).

The Five Former Living Presidents Came Together for a Hurricane Benefit Concert, & It's Incredible

The five former living presidents of the United States gathered together on Saturday night to raise funds for hurricane recovery efforts, The New York Times says. Former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George Bush and Jimmy Carter attended the "Deep From the Heart" concert in Texas to promote awareness for Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria relief funds.

The presidents previously came together in an One America Appeal video earlier this fall, calling for Americans to come together and donate to the less fortunate.

At the concert in College Station, Tex., the five men and their audience first watched a recorded message from President Donald Trump, who noted the three devastating hurricanes that hit the States in the past few months. He also recognized the impacts of Hurricane Nate and the Californian wildfires

"In the aftermath of these terrible storms, the American people have done what we do best," Trump said in the video. "We came together, we helped one another and, through it all, we remained resilient."

All but the elder Bush spoke to the crowd, with Carter and Clinton thanking Americans for their volunteerism. Carter announced plans for his organization Habitat for Humanity to build 6,000 homes in devastated areas, and Clinton reminded that everyone, even former presidents, is merely an American citizen.

"We were all citizens, even us before we were politicians," he said. "And even when our time was up, we became citizens again...there is still work to be done in Texas and Florida, and our friends in Puerto Rico and the American Virgin Islands have only begun to dig their way out of...a calamitous disaster."

Obama singled out the Texas-based Bushes for their work, while George W. Bush asked viewers to donate. He also praised his father, who has battled poor health in the past year, saying, "We really admire and love George H.W. Bush."

According to PEOPLE, the concert included performances from Sam Moore, Yolanda Evans, Lyle Lovett and special guest Lady Gaga. Gaga later shared a photo of herself with the presidents on Twitter, saying, "Nothing more beautiful than everyone putting their differences aside to help humanity in the face of catastrophe."

In a time of great political divide, it's refreshing to see the country's past leaders come together for a bigger cause regardless of their political affiliations.

Gina Rodriguez's Production Company Will Run a CW Show About Feminism

Gina Rodriguez is one of those celebrities I want to be best friends with. Not only is she amazing on her show Jane the Virgin, the Golden Globe winner works hard to ensure that women, specifically Latinas, are fairly represented in the film and TV industry. Her latest move towards equality is her production company's developing TV series, Femme, which focuses on feminism. I love the sound of this already!

Rodriguez's production company I Can and I Will Productions has thrived under the mission statement to "create art that tells stories from the unheard and unseen." While Rodriguez has previously signed on to produce two shows focusing on immigrant characters, Variety reports that the star will also executive produce Femme as a CW drama in association with CBS Television Studios. Rodriguez will work with writers and creators Audrey Wauchope and Rachel Spector, who have previously worked on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

The premise of Femme covers four women who meet online in a secret feminist group and decide to work together to help other women in real life. It sounds like a fun and inspirational series that is perfect for today's society. Rodriguez expressed her own excitement via Twitter once the announcement broke.

Congrats to Rodriguez on this new career move. I know I'll definitely be tuning in whenever Femme premieres!

How to Tell If You’re Having Good Sex

$
0
0

We know good sex when it happens. Your partner has a giant, goofy grin on their face, your hair will never be orderly again and even your dog is watching you suspiciously when you leave the bedroom. Unfortunately, incredible sex doesn’t always happen consistently, but it’s important to know the signs when it does because TBH sex is so important. Riding the waves of pleasure will leave you feeling light and exuding your sexual glow all day. It’s magic. Educate yourself on the staples of good sex, and then try to repeat them again and again — your partner and your libido will be thanking you.

1. The sex is equal

Sex is best when you and your partner are both giving as much as you take. That means you aren’t spending all your time gyrating like a madwoman, and your partner isn’t spending hours trying to give you (near impossible) multiple orgasms only to have you fall asleep after. Everything should be ~reciprocated~ because you both deserve to feel good.

Isabella, a junior at Cal Poly State University San Luis Obispo, weighs in about what makes great sex. “I think we all know the struggle of giving a blowjob, only to never get head back — or worse to have to ask for it *shudders,*” she says. “That’s why the best sex for me is always when both of us are putting in equal effort to please each other.”

There are times when it can definitely be fun to have your partner focus solely on pleasing you and vice versa, but we promise that mind-blowing sex is going to come when you’re both giving your all to each other. In the words of Rihanna, “Werk.”

2. Your mind isn’t wandering

If you’re actually having good sex, you won’t be wondering about that green stuff in your teeth or if all this rolling around will turn your spray tan blotchy. All your brain can manage is incomprehensible moaning, and that’s how it should be when your body and your head are in the game.

“I get really insecure with how my body looks, and then the switch is flipped in my mind and I’m no longer into the sex anymore,” Isabella says. “I either have to think about what’s happening in that very moment or let my mind go completely and just feel it. Distraction is so not productive for good sex.”

We agree that any type of distraction is terrible when you’re trying to vibe with all the sensual feelings happening, but it’s a rarely spoken truth that letting in nasty thoughts about your physical appearancecan kill your mood like no other. Unbelievable sex means that you give zero Fs about what your body looks like. Confidence always wins, and it’s what people are attracted to. Don’t second guess how sexy you are, and your partner won’t either.

3. You take your time

There’s no quick, nervous thrusting happening here. Good sex is something you never want to end, and it leaves you wishing you could stay in your cocoon of bliss and messy sheets forever. Everything is drawn out — you don’t rush foreplay and you might even make the time to slip a few new moves into your usual bedroom routine. Your “Oh” literally becomes an “Ohhhhhhhh,” because the sex is just that good.

Summer, a senior at the University of California, Berkeley, believes that toe-curling sex should never be a quick activity. “When I look at the best times my boyfriend and I have had sex, they’re always really long memories,” she says. “We usually had an entire afternoon free to mess around with each other, or they’re times when we slowed down and really took our time to appreciate what was happening. Urgent and quiet sex is weird — it should be good, long love-making.”

Remember all that mumbo-jumbo about excitement, plateau, orgasm and resolution stages? Well, that formula is actually real AF for incredible sex, and we should all collectively do what we can to make that “excitement” stage last as long as possible. You’ll thank us later.

Related: You Will Not Be Able to EVEN with These First Time Sex Horror Stories

4. You’re having fun in the moment

After amazing sex, you should find rogue panties under your bed, bra literally nowhere to be found and realize you’re in desperate need of a shower. That’s because the best sex of your life will always be completely in the moment and far from perfect! You won’t care about your bed staying neatly made or preventing your hair from ending up like a giant beehive. Let go, stop stressing and have as much fun as possible.

“My biggest tip for having the best sex ever is to always let it happen how it’s supposed to happen,” says Stacy, a senior at the University of Colorado Boulder. “Natural, go with the flow sex never fails to be fun because it’s so in the moment that your mind isn’t trying to psyche you out. I also think it’s way easier for women to orgasm when they’re open to anything that happens.”

Do not let your sex life exist out of obligation. You should not be having sex twice a week just to get it out of the way. Do it because you’re a woman who’s allowed to have sexual needs and seek that fulfillment. Be spontaneous with your partner, don’t overthink what’s happening and just go with your sexual flow. These things are the making of unforgettable sex, and you’ll easily look back on it feeling sexy and joyful.

Sex is unique to each person and couple, but by taking your time, enjoying it and focusing on the moment, you’ll improve your sex life with ease — no crazy sex position necessary.

How She Got There: Tanya Ramloui, CEO & Head Designer at Aoui Clothing

$

0

Name: Tanya Ramloui
Job Title and Description: CEO/ Head Designer of Aoui Clothing
College Name/Major: F.I.D.M Apparel Manufacturing

What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?

TR: A day in the factory is a big part of it, working with sewers, pattern makers etc. It’s not as glamorous as other parts of the business, but that’s sort of where the magic happens. We design and come up with ideas, get to see clothes on models and then styled in store... But it’s those sleeves-rolled-up creative moments in the factory, where we first see our vision come together, that we really enjoy most at Aoui.

What is the best part of your job?

TR: Connecting with customers and seeing first hand that they love something from Aoui is always very special. When we create a piece we really enjoy, and then meet a person or boutique that loves it, that’s very rewarding. We have so many choices today, so when Aoui is chosen, we always take that as a tremendous compliment. And that never gets old!

What was your first entry-level job in your field and how did you get it?

TR: I started with an internship at a small women’s contemporary label in downtown Los Angeles, and was hired full time as assistant designer immediately after graduating FIDM. Being that it was a small company we all had to wear a lot of hats, so this gave me the opportunity to work on many aspects of the business including design, sales, production, shipping, sourcing, etc. This taught me a lot about the industry and what it takes to run a business.

What words of wisdom do you find most valuable?

TR: That one’s simple. "The secret to getting ahead is getting started," by Mark Twain.

What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?

TR: I wish I started my company sooner. You can wait forever for that perfect moment, spend eternity planning, or continue working for someone else to learn a little more, but you really just have to start making something you believe in. You definitely want to prepare and plan, but there’s a clear shift once you go from thinking about something to doing something. Even if it’s a small step, just find one thing to do and get it done, and then the next. I learned that shifting into ‘doing’ mode gets the momentum started and, before you know it, you have something real coming together.

What has been the most surreal moment of your career thus far?

TR: The first sale will always be the most surreal moment. We researched online and found dozens and dozens of clothing boutiques along the coast of California, then planned a road trip trying to visit as many as we could. The plan was to give out our lookbooks along with mason jars filled with candy and the name of the boutique handwritten on the side. We hoped it would break the ice and give the store something to remember us by, and it worked. We sold to a few stores that trip, but that first sale will always hold a special memory. After the sale I walked around the corner to my car, let out a tiny scream, and couldn’t quite believe that a retail sales professional wanted to buy from Aoui! That’s when I knew I’d made the transition from student, to employee, to having my own brand!

What do you look for when considering hiring someone?

TR: We’re a small company, so we all have to wear a lot of hats. Somebody who is eager, a go-getter and energetic is essential. We’re in the process of growing Aoui, so anyone we bring on board has to bring that optimism and excitement for moving the brand forward.

What advice would you give to a 20-something with similar aspirations?

TR: We all have to work for someone else when getting started and it’s important to bring the same energy and enthusiasm to a job as you would bring to running your own company. Not only does this make you a better employee but it better prepares you for the challenges of running your own business. As your business grows it will help greatly when hiring others and you’ll be asking of your employees nothing more than you were willing to give of yourself. How you do one thing is how you do everything!

What's the one thing that's stood out to you the most in a resume?

TR: Formatting! A poorly formatted resume is hard to read, if read at all. Always remember that anyone making hiring decisions has to take a risk on you. If your resume looks polished it creates confidence that you’re someone who pays attention to detail and will do a good job representing yourself, the person hiring you, and the company.

HC Wake-Up Call: Cub Scout Forced to Leave Pack After Asking About Gun Control, Japan Prepares for Typhoon & A New Hershey's Bar

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

A Cub Scout Is Asked to Leave Troop After Asking a Legislator About Gun Control

11-year-old Ames Mayfield was reportedly kicked out of his Cub Scout pack after asking a Colorado state senator why she wouldn't support "common-sense gun laws,"The New YorkTimes says. When Mayfield's troop met with Republican Sen. Vicki Marble in Broomsfield, Colo., his mother Lori Mayfield recorded him asking Marble about her beliefs on guns.

"I was shocked that you co-sponsored a bill to allow domestic violence offenders to continue to own a gun," Mayfield told Marble. "Why on earth would you want somebody who beats their wife to have access to a gun?"

Although Marble answered the question by saying that less crime would happen if a society had more guns, Mayfield's mother was later asked to meet with an overseer of several of the area's Cub Scout packs. She was told that her son bringing up gun control upset den leaders because the topic was "too politically charged," and that he wasn't welcomed back to the group. Mayfield has found a new pack for her son to join, but the incident has caused a stir within Colorado's Boy Scout community

Japan Braces Itself for Massive Typhoon

Japan is facing threats of major flooding and powerful winds as Typhoon Lan approaches landfall Sunday night into Monday morning. Heading toward the country's southern coast, the Category 4 typhoon is already producing winds of 134 miles per hour and has caused monstrous waves in South Korea. The Independent reports that the storm has already killed two people and that thousands were asked to evacuate before landfall, when Lan is expected to weaken to a Category 2 or 3 storm. It's unknown how the weather will affect the results of the country's election day.

Hershey's Experiments With Something New

Instagram user thejunkfoodaisle reports that Hershey's will soon bring a new kind of candy bar to supermarket shelves. Instead of working with the classic chocolate flavor, the company will reportedly try out a golden-colored bar with "caramelized creme." Peanuts and pretzels will also be featured in the new treat, so it's safe to say that this bar will likely satisfy any odd cravings you may experience. The bar is rumored to start appearing in stores this December.
