Traffic Signs in Iowa Are Using Taylor Swift Lyrics to Prevent Distracted Driving

You may be ambivalent about Taylor Swift’s new single "Look What You Made Me Do," but there’s no denying the song’s quick cultural impact. Case in point: the Iowa state government is using the song’s lyrics in its texting and driving warnings. This is Taylor’s biggest honor yet, right?

HelloGiggles reports that drivers began seeing Taylor-related signs earlier this week as part of the state’s Zero Fatalities campaign. The campaign’s webpage says, “We’ve identified some of the most dangerous behaviors that are killing people on Iowa’s roads. They are speeding, driving impaired, driving distracted, driving drowsy and not buckling up.”

In what was likely an attempt to tackle the issue of driving distracted, a sign was released in the state reading, “Old Taylor can’t come to the phone...she’s driving.”

Although it's legal in Iowa to use a cell phone for talking or navigating while driving, the Zero Fatalities campaign wants to make clear that it isn't very safe to do so. According to provided statistics, a simple glance at one's phone normally equates to more than four seconds. 37 percent of the brain activity also turns away from the task of driving when you're looking at your phone, ultimately making a texting driver three times more likely to cause an accident.

Having lost over 200 people so far in distracted driving cases this year, Iowa is definitely putting in the effort to spread the word of texting and driving's dangers. However, this isn't the first time the state has utilized pop culture references to call attention to driving mishaps. The government has also posted Ghostbusters, Star Wars and Pokemon Go parallels in the past.

Wise words Iowa DOT.

A post shared by Kara Wolf (@kbernsee78) on

Although I give points for creativity, signs like this could be another screen to distract drivers. How many people taking these people are also driving alone in their cars? Still, props to Taylor for being such of an influence that she's helping to save lives on the road.

The Las Vegas Shooter's Girlfriend Says She Didn't Know Anything About His Plans

Following the Unites States’ deadliest mass shooting yet in Las Vegas earlier this week, the dead gunman’s girlfriend has announced that she had no warning of her partner’s plan to commit this act. CNN reports that shooter Stephen Paddock’s girlfriend Marilou Danley released a statement through her attorney on Wednesday, saying that she was “devastated” by the deadly event.

62-year-old Danley was visiting family in the Philippines at the time of the shooting at a Las Vegas country music concert. After returning to the States on Tuesday, she was interrogated by the FBI on Wednesday, but ultimately knew very little helpful information.

“I knew Stephen Paddock as a kind, caring, quiet man,” Danley said in her statement. “I loved him and hoped for a future together with him. He never said anything to me, or took any action that I was aware of that I understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible like this was going to happen.”

Business Insider says that Paddock was the one to persuade Danley to take a trip to the Philippines. Her statement reports that he bought her a ticket and even wired her money while she was away. “Like all Filipinos abroad, I was excited to go home and see family and friends,” she explained. “While there, he wired me money, which he said was for me to buy a house for me and my family. I was grateful, but honestly I was worried at first that the unexpected trip home and then the money was a way of breaking up with me.”

Danley willingly traveled back to the United States following the incident and has been cooperating with investigation procedures. She had reportedly been traveling throughout Asia since September 15. In an interview with CNN affiliate Seven Network Australia, Danley’s sisters suggested that Paddock purposely sent her away so she would be uninvolved with the shooting.

“She was sent away,” a sister told the network. “She was sent away so that she will be not there to interfere with what he’s planning.”

It’s unclear how Danley and Paddock initially met, but the former’s sisters revealed that they had met Paddock a few times. “[He was] very quiet, not sociable,” one sister said. “He keep to himself. One question, you get your answer directly. That’s it.”

The 11 Costumes You'll See at a College Halloween Party

In college, Halloween is a week of fun, partying and getting the chance to be someone besides yourself for a change. The ultimate goal is to dress as something unique that no one else at the party will be. Some people don't exactly get the memo. Keep reading for a list of the 11 Halloween costumes you're guaranteed to see at any and every college party.

1. The Cat

We're convinced that cat costumes are for those who couldn't care less about Halloween. They either don't care enough about the holiday to plan an actual costume, or they procrastinate, and when October 31st comes around, they're so antsy to get drunk that they throw on the nearest scrap of fabric and cat ears and call it a night. This costume is typically worn by those who are, in layman's terms, basic.

2. The Main Character From a Hit TV Series

Whether it's the Liars, Khaleesi, Dexter or Leslie Knope, when people like a TV show, they find it necessary to dress up as one of the main characters. Expect at least six people at your party this year to be dressed as the main character of whatever the most popular TV show is around Halloween 2017.

3. The Solo Cup

This dude loves inconvenient costumes and really loves the attention that comes with them. His likes include beer pong (obviously), being shirtless and pushing through the crowded dance floor, making everyone else tumble to the ground and have no choice but to notice him.

4. The Risky BusinessCostume

Similar to the cat costume, the Risky Business costume is generally worn by basics. It requires little to no effort and is almost always worn by those who haven't actually seen the movie. "Wait, there's a movie?"

5. The Sexy [Insert Literally Anything Here]

Want to go as a sexy beer can? Sure. What about sexy Skittles? No problem. Sexy iPod? Yeah, that can be a thing! All it takes is a tight dress, sometimes made out of duct tape if you're into that kind of thing, and a logo on the front. You can be anything your heart desires with a trip to Michaels and a good printer.

6. The Literal Costume

This guy is all about the irony. He's a total goofball, and his goal of the night is to make people laugh. When a literal costume is as elaborate as the picture above, it's a great costume, but literal costumes can often be a failed attempt at wit and will produce many an eye roll. The same guy has also been seen going as a "pothead" by wearing an actual pot on his head at past Halloween parties.

7. The Creeper Costume

The creeper costume is always worn by an equally creepy dude. He just came to the party to get with girls, and, ironically enough, his costume is doing the exact opposite of its intended purpose. Ladies, keep your distance from the "Free Mammograms" guy. He's not a real doctor.

8. The Non-Costume

Costumes like this are for the guys who are too cool to care. Hipster, intellectual, maturewhatever this dude calls himself, he sucks. Yeah, the non-costume can be funny if done like our boy Jim Halpert, but what's the point of Halloween if you're going to be boring and dress normally? Come onit only happens once a year, everyone dresses up and, as Cady Heron once said, "You'd better be one of them, biotch."

9. The Costume Nobody Gets

There's always someone at the party who wants to flaunt her intellectual side and show that she's above the typical and childish costume choices that most college kids are into. And there are always drunk people who straight up don't get it. Most conversations overheard between a person wearing this costume and a drunk partygoer go as follows:

Drunk: "Like, what are you?"

Intellectual:"A Freudian slip."

Drunk: *Stares blankly*

Intellectual: *Stares blankly*

Drunk: *Burps then walks away*

10. The Buzzed LightBeer

This costume is for BROOOOs. If you don't bro out as hard as this bro, then go home. This bro wants everyone around him to know that he drinks alcohol. And he drinks a lot of it, often. He can pound tons of beers. You only drank eight beers? That may as well be like drinking water.

11. The Costume That Ruins Your Childhood Memories

At every party, you're always graced with the girls who choose a beloved childhood character, such as a Disney Princess, a Rugrat (Yes, we've seen "sexy" Chuckie before) or even Mario and Luigi and wear lingerie in relevant colors to try to pass as said characters. We personally don’t remember Mario or Luigi wearing sparkly bras in Super Smash Bros. That must be in the newer version.

Amazon Is Selling a Pro-Anorexia Sweatshirt & We Are Livid

Leading online retailer, Amazon, has been under fire for selling an insensitive and controversial sweatshirt. Said sweatshirt states that the definition of anorexia is "like bulimia, except with self control," ridiculing both eating disorders. Yes, now is a good time to be furious.

It is unclear why the hoodie is still being sold to this day on the site, even with almost 171 negative reviews. Anorexia and bulimia are legitimate mental health issues - and most definitely should not be trivialized and turned into a bad joke in hot pink font on a hoodie. In fact, eating disorders lead with the highest mortality rate amongst all mental illnesses.

Many took to Twitter to express their distaste for the sale of such products. Beth Grant, who formerly suffered from anorexia, summed up perfectly in an interview with BBC how damaging promoting the sale of pro-anorexia items are, saying "making a commodity out of it is completely irresponsible and disgraceful" and could "damage the mental health [of those with these eating disorders] even further" by referring to those who suffer from bulimia as "out of control."

HC Wake-Up Call: NFL Player Talks Down to Female Reporter, The San Juan Mayor on Trump's Towel Toss & Krispy Kreme's Pumpkin Spice Doughnuts

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

NFL Player Gives Sexist Response to a Female Sports Reporter

It's no secret that it's hard to be a woman in sports reporting, and Charlotte Observer reporter Jourdan Rodrigue was sorely reminded of this. She talked shop in a question for Panthers quarterback Cam Newton during his weekly press conference, asking him about another player's game routes. Newton smiled and said, "It's funny to hear a female talk about routes like that. It's funny."

"I don't think it's "funny" to be a female and talk about routes," Rodrigue later said on Twitter. "I think it's my job."

Luckily, if you browse through mentions of Newton's name on Twitter, many agree with Rodrigue, who revealed that she didn't receive an apology from Newton. Hang in there, girl, we're with you on this!

The San Juan Mayor Responds to *That* Trump Paper Towel Stunt

San Juan mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz definitely isn't the biggest fan of President Donald Trump, and after seeing the president toss out paper towel rolls like he was at a sports game during his Puerto Rico visit, she's still not crazy about him.

"This terrible and abominable view of him throwing paper towels and throwing provisions at people, it does not embody the spirit of the American nation," Cruz said in an interview with MSNBC. "That is not the land of the free and the home of the brave, that beacon of democracy that people have learned to look up to across the world."

Cruz also wrote off Trump's meeting with Puerto Rico's local leaders as a PR stunt, saying that, "There was no exchange with anybody, with none of the mayors."

Get Ready for Krispy Kreme Pumpkin Spice Doughnuts

If your pumpkin spice latte just isn't enough to get you in the autumnal spirit, Krispy Kreme is coming to the rescue with its pumpkin spice doughnuts. The company brought out the recipe for a limited time last month, but its participating locations will now offer the treats on October's first three Fridays in honor of fall. On October 26, known as National Pumpkin Day, the doughnuts will be available for the entire day. If you really want to get adventurous, Krispy Kreme even has its own pumpkin spice latte for you to try out.

What to look out for...

Today is Do Something Nice Day, which we definitely need to celebrate this week. Even if it's just as simple as thanking the dining hall workers or holding the door for someone, look for opportunities to spread goodness today!

Liam Hemsworth Just Couldn't Stay Away From Miley Cyrus When They Were Broken Up

Miley Cyrus released her new album, Younger Now—which includes the hit single "Malibu"—on Friday. Earlier this week, on the Howard Stern Show, Miley opened up about how her longtime on-and-off boyfriend Liam Hemsworth inspired "Malibu." Warning: This is the cutest story ever.

According to Refinery29, Miley's breakup with Liam led him to Malibu, where, by crazy coincidence, he ended up buying a house Miley had a special connection to. “When Liam—he’s my boyfriend now—broke up for a minute, he wanted to get away from me, he wanted to go to Malibu, and bought this house. He didn’t know it was the house I recorded my first album in!” Say what?!

You won’t believe what happened next. “The person [selling the house] hid all the plaques in the garage so he would still buy the house. So then he went to move in and he was like ‘Fuck, I cannot get away, this bitch is all over my fucking house!”

Apparently, it worked out well for Miley and Liam because they’re now back together and live in the house together. Talk about a crazy twist of fate. “So now that we’re back together, my song 'Malibu' is about the house that I live in, in Malibu, which is where I recorded my first album,” Cyrus told Stern.

Liam and Miley are extremely happy together at the moment but don’t have plans to get married anytime soon. Miley told The Sun last month, "I'm 24. I hope I get to live a little bit more. I have too much living to do [before I get married]."

I'm happy for them, but I'm also very excited for the heartfelt album she’ll hopefully drop when they decide to tie the knot.

7 Things You Didn’t Know About Getting A Tattoo

Whether you’re completely for them or against them, you most likely know a handful of people donning tattoos. From a tiny zodiac sign on your wrist to an intricately designed sleeve, tattoos are a way of expression for many. They seem to have become more common and accepted over the years, as shown by successful artists like Kat Von D and tattoo-loving celebrities like Ruby Rose, and their popularity is undeniable amongst the millennial generation.

No matter what your opinion, one thing is for sure, tattoos are a lifelong commitment. We’ve all seen pictures of regrettable tattoos and felt pity for the person who got them. They can be beautiful pieces of art, but they can also be messy mistakes. To avoid making your own poor decisions about tattoos in the future, here are our tips for the best tattoo experience.

Related: 7 Women Who Are Defying Beauty Norms

1. The post-tat care might be more work than you expected

When getting a tattoo, especially if it’s your first one, your main focus is typically on the design and placement. It’s important to realize you will have to take care of your tattoo, even months after it is finished, to ensure it heals properly.

Alicia Thomas, a known tattoo artist at The Boston Tattoo Company, tells about the basics of tattoo care. “General rules are; stay out of the sun for two weeks, don't soak your tattoo - of course showers are fine we certainly encourage keeping your tattoo clean but you want to avoid submerging it so baths are off the table. You also want to avoid open bodies of water such as pools, beaches, hot tubs, etc.”

These tips may even alter your decision to get a tattoo in the summer as opposed to the winter - it’s not easy to willingly give up your beach days! As far as cleaning and tending to your tattoo when it peels and itches, Alicia recommends using a plain unscented lotion to moisturize the area and an antibacterial soap to keep it clean.

2. It helps to come prepared with some sort of distraction

Whether this means listening to your favorite playlist or squeezing your friend’s hand, you’ll want a way to give your mind a mini-escape. The repetitive buzzing noise from the tattoo machine definitely isn’t pleasant so it’s helpful to bring some headphones along. As far as friends go, it’s always great to have support during memorable moments in your life. And if they’re your best friends they’ll be sure to keep the atmosphere upbeat for a more positive experience. Some tattoos can take hours to complete depending on their size, so these are both great ways to help the time pass too!

3. Tattoos can make you feel different, in a good way

We can all relate to learning to love our bodies and embracing our unique qualities. Many collegiettes believe tattoos are one way to make women feel empowered. Meggie Cliff, a graduate of the University of Southern Maine, shares how her forty tattoos have given her confidence to be herself, “Having tattoos has helped me feel more beautiful for the stories they tell, my story. All of us have a story to tell. For me, choosing artwork to display mine has helped me become proud of the person I always have been and the person I am constantly growing into. It can take a lifetime for a woman to feel sexy in her body, and we all feel sexy for different reasons. Tattoos are just my way of feeling that.”

Who doesn’t love to feel sexy and confident? Maybe tattoos will be your way to feel fierce about who you are.

4. Some tattoos will hurt more than others

Depending on placement, pain tolerance, and your past experiences, some tattoo sessions will feel more painful than others. Olivia Gagnon, a 23-year-old with twelve tattoos, tells about her more painful experience, “I would say the most painful tattoo I've ever gotten was my tree trunk armband because it runs around the inside of my arm near my armpit. It's very sensitive in the axillary region of the body. You'll notice that a lot of people who are covered in tattoos skip that area.”

Of course, everyone has different opinions about which tattoos hurt the most, Alicia further explains, “It shouldn't really matter if it's a more painful area or not. The pain is temporary and then once it is over you have this beautiful piece on your body forever. The location of it is much more important than the temporary pain, she expresses. Places that are considered a little bit more sensitive are ribs, top of feet, inner bicep, lower back, etc.”

Placement seems to be the crucial decision when getting a tattoo. Pain aside, this should be your focus when deciding on what you want to get.

5. A good tattoo isn’t cheap

Which means a cheap tattoo won’t be good. This is a permanent marking on your body, why wouldn’t you want to pay for a job well done? Mariah Hebert, a senior at St. Joseph’s College, explained her tattoo experiences in regards to pricing, “A good tattoo definitely isn't cheap. You could get a tattoo done anywhere but you want to get someone just as invested in your tattoo as you are. Good tattoo artists usually cost more because they know what they’re doing; they went to school for it and are considered true "artists" in my eyes. Thinking about it in that aspect, you could pay $30 for an ordinary design or you could pay $150-$200 for a better, more detailed one that you're most likely going to genuinely enjoy.”

Don’t be afraid to search for the best artist. Your body is worth a beautifully executed tattoo

6. You should always tip your tattoo artist

Going along with pricing is the tip, which is not included. Tipping is very important and not everyone realizes this. Most tattoo artists will work closely with you to design your tattoo. They will listen, adjust and give suggestions depending on your desires. You are in this process together so it’s common courtesy to tip them out after your final session is done.

How much do you tip? Alicia shares, “As a tattoo artist, talking about tips is a difficult subject matter. I can't say that we expect a tip, however, we certainly appreciate them. There is not a defined percentage that you can go off. When we receive a tip we take it as we did an exceptional job and our client truly appreciates the work and effort we put into the tattoo not only during the actual tattoo time but during the prep time, and the behind the scenes time, where you can find us spending hours drawing up a tattoo.”

Be sure to tip your artist, it’s clearly the respectful thing to do.

7. You’ll get asked, “what it means” a lot

You know that saying, “diamonds are forever?” Well, tattoos are forever too, and you should only get one if you’re fully invested in it. Sure, you may be tempted to get a random one with your friends, but ask yourself first if you truly want it. People will definitely ask you about your tattoos and more often than not it’s a proud moment when you get to share the stories behind them.

Justine Bouthot, a senior at the University of Maine Orono, opens up about what having tattoos means to her: “Personally, both my tattoos have a special place in my heart,” she says.
“Tattoos give you the opportunity to take a piece of your soul and put it outside of your body, on your skin. Tattoos let people inside your heart if it represents something that means a lot to you. When my grandmother died, I got a bible verse tattooed on my back that carried me through the horrible time of her passing. Now I can wear that as armor. I have a part of her with me forever, and that's why I put the words in the shape of a heart.”

Whether your tattoo is a remembrance of someone you love, a symbol for a turning point in your life, or a beautiful piece of art you can carry with you, be sure to get tattoos that you’re proud to have.

One thing is for sure - when deciding to get a tattoo, there are plenty of factors to think about. But if you go into your appointment prepared and aware of the inking process, you'll be sure to love the result.

Gloria Steinem Didn't Say That Quote About Abortions & Guns — It Was A Navy Vet

After the terrible tragedy of the Las Vegas shooting that unfolded on Sunday, many jumped to the internet and to social media to share thoughts, prayers, and calls to action. Words have the ability and unique power to unite communities and with the advances of social media, they can easily access millions of people within a short period of time.

One quote that went viral compared access to guns and access to abortion. The gist of the quote covers that if gun laws were like abortion laws, there would be significantly more barriers and guarantees of responsibility for gun purchase. But you can read the full quote below, as shared by supermodel Gisele:

The quote has been attributed to Gloria Steinem, an iconic leader of the American feminist movement who, along with Jane Fonda and Robin Morgan, co-founded the Women's Media Center, which works to "make women visible and powerful in the media." She’s shared her refreshing advice to young feminist advocates before and works to empower women on a daily basis.

While Steinem did share the quote in a 2015 Facebook post, it’s not from her — and it didn’t rise to prominence until now.

It was actually written by 52-year-old Navy veteran Brian Murtagh, according to Bustle, in response to a 2013 article from The Examiner titled: “What if gun laws were like abortion laws?”

Some of the key highlights from this piece are "only one store in the entire state would sell guns" (or none, if Kentucky follows through with their plan) and "if you were married, your spouse might have to sign off on your gun ownership." Imagine that.

The Supreme Court has upheld both the right to own guns and the right to have an abortion, but laws and policies have prevented both rights from being protected equally. Republicans hold gun ownership as sacred but denounce abortion rights at each opportunity, to the concern of advocates. Just this Tuesday, House republicans passed a bill that would make abortion a crime after 20 weeks.

"I thought it was a really, really clever way to show the hypocrisy between the different positions," Murtagh told Bustle.

Agreed. And it's so amazing to see how our words are more powerful than we realize.

The U.S. Department of Justice Released A Memo Saying Anti-Bias Laws Don't Protect Trans Workers

Gender and sexuality are an integral part of our lives, but the Trump administration doesn’t seem to understand how important these rights are. After the controversy surrounding President Trump’s transgender military ban — which was thankfully frozen —another controversy has arisen.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has recently asserted in a memo that the federal law that bans sex discrimination in the workplace doesn’t extend to protect transgender employees, Reuters reports.

His exact words, according to Buzzfeed, were: “Title VII’s prohibition on sex discrimination encompasses discrimination between men and women but does not encompass discrimination based on gender identity per se, including transgender status.”

While title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 bans discrimination on the basis of sex, not on gender identity, a 2014 Justice Department memo—and several federal appeals courts—say that Title VII protects transgender people.

In response, trans activists and groups have jumped to social media in defense:

The ACLU responded to the move, The Hill reports, by calling this "another low point for a Department of Justice."

In an interview with Buzzfeed, Sharon McGowan, a former DOJ lawyer and current attorney for nonprofit civil rights organization Lambda Legal, said that Sessions “is trying to roll back the clock [as though] the progress of the last decade hasn't happened. The Justice Department is actually getting back in the business of making anti-transgender law in court."

Politicians have also shown their support of trans rights:

Reversing history and progress is not an option. We hope that the courts agree, even if the Department of Justice doesn’t.

Drama Alert: Apparently, Rex Tillerson Called Donald Trump A 'Moron'& Needed A Pence Intervention

In an impromptu address to reporters on Wednesday morning, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson sought to end the rumors that he planned to resign last July and called President Trump a "moron," BuzzFeed News reports. He also denied claims made by an NBC report that Vice President Mike Pence persuaded him to stay on the job.

And me? I'm currently flashing back to all my drama-filled middle school days, because they're starting to ring a bell here.

The NBC News report, published on October 4th (and deemed "fake news" by Donald Trump), claimed that Tillerson was on "on the verge of resigning this past summer" according to senior administration officials. Tensions were reportedly high between Tillerson and Trump when Trump delivered a speech to The Boy Scouts of America in late July of 2016 (an organization that the officials say Tillerson once lead), along with policy disputes.

According to three officials, Tillerson had referred to Trump as a "moron" a few days earlier during a meeting at the Pentagon on July 20 with Trump's national security team and Cabinet officials, NBC News reports.

The report goes on to claim that officials said Pence counseled Tillerson on ways to ease tensions with Trump, and was urged to stay on the job until the end of the year—as he would receive a very high tax bill for resigning after less than a year. Pence also reportedly talked to Tillerson about sorting out any disagreements in private and to be respectful of Trump in public.

"The vice president has never had to persuade me to remain as secretary of state because I have never considered leaving this post," Tillerson said in his address to reporters on October 4, BuzzFeed News reports.

Again, while Tillerson denies most of the claims made by NBC News, Tillerson's top aids have stated that, while that Tillerson has no intention of stepping down from his position, he is frustrated by Trump's tweeting (hard same) and fighting over staffing decisions.

Can someone say petty

Trump Says He Wants Congress to Investigate Fake News in AM Twitter Rant

Another day, another angry Twitter tirade from President Donald Trump. This time, POTUS was calling out The Senate Intelligence Committee for not looking into... on three, everyone!

One, two, three: It's fake news! (I don't think I can roll my eyes any harder.)

In the early hours of Thursday morning, Trump took to Twitter (shocker) to express his frustrations with the committee for not looking into the "Fake News Networks." The Daily Dot reports that these pointed Tweets seem to have been triggered by an NBC News report published on October 4th stating that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson "was on the verge of resigning this past summer" and called the president a “moron.”

Tillerson denies the claim, saying, "I have never considered leaving this post." He has neither confirmed nor denied calling Trump a moron, though a spokeswoman denied the remark on his behalf.

In his first tweet, Trump writes, "Why Isn't the Senate Intel Committee looking into the Fake News Networks in OUR country to see why so much of our news is just made up-FAKE!"

About an hour later he followed up the previous tweet, writing, "Rex Tillerson never threatened to resign. This is Fake News put out by @NBCNews. Low news and reporting standards. No verification from me."

Seeing as how The Senate Intelligence Committee is "one of several federal entities investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 election",  it's likely that they have bigger fish to fry than news reports that aren't to Trump's liking.

As Chris Cillizza of CNN notes, it's nothing new for the POTUS to have a fraught relationship with the press. As CNN mentions President Barack Obama's final news conference of his presidency, the relationship between the POTUS and the press isn't supposed to be chummy:

"I have enjoyed working with all of you. That does not, of course, mean that I've enjoyed every story that you have filed, but that's the point of this relationship. You're not supposed to be sycophants, you're supposed to be skeptics, you're supposed to ask me tough questions," Obama said. "You're not supposed to be complimentary, but you're supposed to cast a critical eye on folks who hold enormous power and make sure that we are accountable to the people who sent us here, and you have done that."

However,  Trump's issues with the fourth estate often seem to transcend annoyance and tread into the territory of opposing the first amendment. And that's something that many who value a robust, free press are concerned about.

Praise Be: Peter Kraus Is Going to Be on a 'Bachelor' Spinoff

Peter Kraus is returning to the Bachelor world, and Bachelor Nation couldn't be happier. Franchise creator Mike Fleiss confirmed on Twitter that the fan favorite will return to our televisions for the new Bachelor spinoff, The Bachelor Winter Games

Many speculated that Peter would be the next Bachelor following a controversial Bachelorette finale that saw Rachel Lindsay choose Bryan Abasolo over Peter because of his hesitations about proposing. Fans became even more outraged after watching Rachel and Peter's awkward and heartbreaking interaction during the live finale special. Peter received an outpouring of support, leading many to believe that he was the front runner for Bachelor

Bachelorette alum Arie Luyendyk Jr. was chosen instead, to the shock of Bachelor Nation.

Not much is known about The Bachelor Winter Games. The show is slated to premiere in Feb. 2018 to coincide with the Winter Olympic Games. This also means the spinoff will overlap with the next season of The Bachelor, which usually runs from January to March. All-stars from the franchise will compete against each other in "winter-themed athletic challenges" and for love while they stay in a luxury winter resort.

Sounds like Bachelor Pad in the mountains to me, but I'll pretty much watch anything Bachelor related. If one thing is certain, it's going to be dramatic, and if they get more fan favorites like Peter, it's sure to be a success.

Your favorite celebrity couple is ready to add to their family. In an interview with InStyle, Chrissy Teigen revealed that she and her husband of four years, John Legend, will be using IVF in the "coming months" to try to have another child. The two welcomed daughter Luna (also conceived using IVF) in April 2015.

Chrissy has ben very transparent about her and John's struggle with fertility. She said they ended up with about 20 embryos after her rounds of fertility treatments and had to narrow that selection down to three that "you know are going to be good for your body." According to Chrissy, "the first little girl didn't work, and then the second is Luna." The third, a male embryo, she's hoping to carry soon.

Never one to hide parts of her life, Chrissy revealed in a raw, candid essay with Glamour in March that she struggled with postpartum depression after Luna's birth. Though she originally intended to keep this private, Teigen decided to share her story in the hopes of ending the stigma surrounding postpartum depression.

Best of luck to Chrissy and John as they start the IVF process again, and while we wait for news of Legend baby #2, we'll just have to keep looking at adorable pictures of Luna.

5 Times the Pearson Family Was Relatable AF During This Week's Episode of 'This Is Us'

This week’s episode of This Is Us, “A Manny-Splendored Thing,” provided an essence of what were some of the best moments of the first season: the entire Pearson clan together in both the past and present. Although moments of the entire family together were limited in the ‘80s storyline, the present-day Pearsons appeared in full force for a taping of Kevin’s special episode of The Manny.

Although the show has definitely reminded viewers of their own families through its more intense storylines, this episode seemed full of simpler family moments that were insanely relatable. I love a nice, therapeutic cry while watching the show, but this week was easy on the tear ducts and heavy on the everyday moments that we all face now and then. Here are five family moments from this week’s episode that hit close to home.

1. When Beth just couldn’t deal with The Manny

Your mom totally wanders into the room when you’re watching The Bachelor, Dance Moms or some other guilty pleasure TV and goes, “What is this?” The Manny is Beth’s Dance Moms—she doesn’t get it and she doesn’t want to understand it.

2. When it was revealed that Kevin helped Randall with his dating game

We’ve been waiting for Randall and Beth’s origin story, and although I’m still rooting for a full-blown flashback at some point, this episode revealed that the two met in college and that Beth was way out of Randall's league. Even better, Randall turned to Kevin for advice on how to get Beth’s attention, using some of his suave brother’s pickup lines. Beth discovered Kevin’s role in their early relationship while on the Manny set, leading to a nice bonding moment between the in-laws who are often at each other’s throats.

3. When Kate and Rebecca proved that you’ll always have that one issue with your mom

Both the flashback and the present-day storyline reflected decades-long tension between Kate and Rebecca, particularly over Kate's pressure to live up to her mother’s hopes for her. Although they didn't exactly resolve their issues, the two had a loving moment in the car after Kate's gig when Rebecca acknowledged her approval of Kate's relationship with Toby. Even if you're prone to arguing with your mom, it doesn't mean that you don't love each other.

4. When young Kevin snapped back about Randall’s talent show act

Kevin practiced his Mr. T impression and Randall planned a yo-yo trick for the school talent show. As we saw at the triplets' 10th birthday party, Kevin was popular even back then, so he wasn't afraid to say that he thought Randall's act was stupid. His comment and trying to defend himself when Jack intervened was a classic family strife that probably still happens between you and your sibling.

5. When Miguel was your family’s token old man

From volunteering for the taping’s dance break to immediately zoning in on Toby’s pigs in a blanket, Miguel was such a dad in this episode that it was almost embarrassing. So far, only Rebecca and Randall's daughters seem to willingly interact with Miguel (and Toby gets that they're both outsiders in the Pearson clan), but I'm still hoping to like Miguel once more of his story is revealed.

This week may have been relatively low-key on This Is Us, but it was a sweet reminder that these characters are relevant even on their duller days.

8 Ways to Get Rid of Acne, From Gentle & Natural to Aggressive

Although acne is something that most people experience and hope to magically outgrow by high school graduation, that’s usually not the case. The sad truth is that acne can plague anyone, whether you’re a 20-something or well into your adult life.

Acne can range anywhere from a few pesky pimples and blackheads to painful, cystic acne that disrupts your everyday life. Wherever you fall on that range, we can all agree on one thing—acne is a pain in the ass. So, we rounded up a few experts and collegiettes to gather eight methods that are gentle, aggressive or somewhere in between to help you kick acne’s ass and achieve the skin you’ve been dreaming of!

1.  Natural methods

It’s amazing just how much a good exercise regimen and healthier eating habits can not only drastically improve your mind and body, but also your skin! So, if you’re not sure where to begin on your acne-fighting journey, it doesn’t hurt to start with basic, natural methods such as diet and exercise.

Rachna Shah, a freshman at Dartmouth College, credits both as her favorite ways to clear up her acne. “One of my favorite (more natural and gentle) ways to get rid of acne is exercising regularly and eating healthier foods,” says Rachna. “While it may seem like a long-term option compared to aggressive medications, its benefits range far beyond getting rid of your acne.”

Regular exercise

Consistent exercise routines do so many awesome and natural things to our body that double as a way to fight acne. While you’re working up a sweat and toning up your muscles, you’re also increasing your blood circulation, receiving more oxygen and releasing sweat. The blood and oxygen flow draws out pore-clogging toxins while sweat aids even more in this process, removing dirt and oils. Over time, you’ll notice that this process can contribute to clearer skin! Dr. Cynthia Bailey, a dermatologist based in Sebastopol, California, offers her insight as to how exercise helps promote better skin.

"Acne is considered an inflammatory condition, [so it's] not simply a problem of bacteria or clogged pores," Dr. Bailey explains. "Exercise counteracts the biochemical and endocrine drivers of general inflammatory physiology in the body. It's why exercise is important to fighting all conditions fueled by inflammation including arthritis, metabolic syndrome, etc." If that's not enough encouragement to exercise more often, we don't know what is!

Also, as an added bonus, exercise produces endorphins (hormones) that aid in the reduction of stress. Stress produces a hormone called cortisol, which does some harmful things to our body, including breakouts. Therefore, producing more of those happy hormones in turn reduces stress, which equals a reduction in cortisol. Simple enough, right?

While exercise is certainly not a quick, overnight fix in any acne battle, it does provide many natural ways to detoxify your skin and fight the bad hormones. However, be sure not to backtrack and cause breakouts! Remember to cleanse your face after hitting the gym and to not to sit in your workout clothes for too long after your sweat sesh to avoid body acne. Consider following up your workout with a DIY skincare routine to go even more natural!

Healthier eating

Put good in to get good out! Whether we like to admit it or not, there are some foods out there that are just not good for our skin. Eating healthier helps you avoid the foods that can mess with your hormones and lead to acne, and ensures that you’re receiving all the good, natural stuff such as antioxidants, amino acids and other nourishing nutrients that make for a healthier complexion.

"I recommend a diet that is heavily weighted towards whole plant foods and away from refined carbohydrates, dairy and bad fats and animal-based foods," says Dr. Bailey, so make sure to keep that in mind the next time you're at the grocery store! Although dairy is a much-loved staple of an everyday diet for many, Dr. Bailey especially recommends steering clear of the stuff if you want to improve your complexion.

"Dairy in particular has been linked to the formation of acne by triggering an inflammatory biochemical cascade that specifically targets the pores," says Dr. Bailey. "High refined carbs and sugars have also clearly been identified as drivers of acne." Yes, we know it's difficult to avoid these foods, but the overall improved health of your skin will be worth it!

If you're looking for an even more specific diet to follow, Nicholas Grimm, a certified physician assistant at the BayCare Clinic in Green Bay, Wisconsin, recommends following a ketogenic diet.

"Diets that are higher in fat, very low in carbohydrates and a moderate protein intake have a tendency to help control insulin levels, which influence how our skin behaves," says Grimm. "It’s really a lifestyle choice—to a large degree, I would encourage people to avoid processed foods. Natural foods like nuts and healthy fats like avocado are good. This isn’t necessarily going to be an answer to the acne but it can aid in the improvement of acne," Dr. Grimm explains. So although Grimm wouldn’t recommend a healthy diet as the sole treatment for more severe and cystic acne, it’s definitely a step you’ll want to include!

"If I were to put everybody on a ketogenic diet, they would probably see some significant improvement in their skin," Grimm adds.

For some, all it might take to improve your acne is a diet adjustment and some exercise, so they’re definitely two acne-fighting methods that are worth a shot if you haven’t given them a chance yet.

2. Gentle methods

Mild to acne-prone facial cleansers

Consistently washing your face every day isn’t always easy, especially right before bed. However, we all typically sweat throughout the day, and if you’re one to wear makeup, that makes for a pore-clogging nightmare when you’re hitting the sheets without fully cleansing your face.

While facial cleansers generally serve to remove dirt, oil and makeup, it’s important to remember that not everyone’s skin is the same! Some skin types require gentler washes to aid sensitive skin and others require a little more oomph in getting rid of all those pesky pimples. In order to find an acne cleanser that works best for the type of skin you have, talk with your dermatologist to help identify your skin type and find the products that work best for you! Dr. Bailey reveals some of the best acne-fighting ingredients to look out for in facial cleansers.

"Active [acne-fighting] ingredients include salicylic acid, glycolic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Yeast acne (pityrosporum folliculitis) responds to zinc pyrithione," says Dr. Bailey. If you're more into gentler cleansers, Dr. Bailey recommends applying leave-on products that are medicated.

Grimm offers up witch hazel as a natural astringent for those who experience oiliness. "There are some people that like to use astringents to dry the skin out, things like witch hazel, and for people with very oily complexions that sometimes provides them with some relief.”

Again, if your skin is extra-sensitive, you'll want to speak with your doctor about the ingredients that are best for your skin to avoid, and which cleansers are the most compatible. “The best thing is going to be to focus on using skin cleansers that are fragrance-free," says Grimm. "What we have to remember about what skin cleansers do is they’re really just there to remove excess surface oil, dirt and debris. They’re not really intended to treat deeper inflammatory acne lesions. They’re really there to allow for a more even penetration of topical prescription medication." It's important to know exactly how the products you use work in order to gain the most acne-fighting benefits from them.

Establishing a gentle routine

Establishing a skincare routine is a great way to ensure you’re consistently removing oil, makeup and other toxins from your pores every day. Stephanie Huynh, a sophomore at Lehigh University, recommends sticking to a gentle skincare routine to send your acne packing!

“The best [acne-fighting] method for me and a lot of my friends is to get on a good skincare routine,” says Stephanie. “This means taking your makeup off at night using gentle methods such as micellar water, and then cleansing with an acne fighting or soothing cleanser. Because I have combination skin, and my problem areas are located only in certain areas I don't like using an extremely harsh cleanser, but that's my preference.”

If you find that you’ve established a routine but you’re still not getting the results you want, it may be in regards to the order and types of products you use in the daytime versus at night (an issue that can fixed with the help of your doc). Chelsea Jackson, a junior at Iowa State University, shares her story as an example for finding a specific routine!

“After nearly a year of trial and error, I found that using different products during the morning versus the evening has helped clear up my skin,” says Chelsea. “I use the Cetaphil daily facial cleanser if I shower at night and COSRX low pH good morning gel cleaner in the morning, if I shower in the AM. I also use a vitamin-C-based serum in the morning before I put on my Cetaphil daily facial moisturizer. At night, I'll use a retinol cream instead of the vitamin-C serum (with the same moisturizer). Though my acne is really only present on my body, not my face, I've found that face products don't irritate my breakouts as much as body washes do (even the ones that claim to be for "sensitive skin").”

So, when you've finally found your skincare routine, the biggest thing you'll want to remember is to not overwash! “A gentle cleanser is recommended once a day," says Grimm. "A lot of people go overboard with cleansers—they scrub and they scrub and they scrub thinking that they’re going to remove the acne by cleaning more. But a lot of the acne has more to do what’s going on in the inside of the body (hormonal influence) with regard to anything that’s going on to the outside. A lot of people attribute acne to being unclean and really that’s not what we’re talking about."

Again, it is so important to talk with your dermatologist if you’ve been struggling with acne and not getting any positive results. Establishing a good acne-fighting routine makes a world of difference when you can be sure that you’re using all the correct products for your skin, and using them in the right way!

3. Aggressive methods

While exercise, healthier eating habits and gentle cleansers can do wonders for acne, it sometimes just doesn’t do the trick for stubborn acne and painful, cystic acne. If you feel that you need some extra ammunition in your battle to get rid of your acne, there are a few prescription-strength options and other medicines out there your dermatologist can recommend and prescribe!

Prescription medications & topical treatments

Birth control, topical treatments, and antibiotics, oh my! These are just a few things that your dermatologist can prescribe to help with your acne. Zaynah Javed, a freshman at UC Berkely, recommends topical gels as a way to effectively treat acne.

“Prescription acne medication is always an option!” Zaynah says. “If you talk to a doctor about it, they are usually very receptive to the idea and will try to find the right medicine for you. I use Tretinoingel, which is pretty easy to use since you just have to apply it at night. I haven't had any adverse effects from it but if you do, doctors are always able to help you find the right solution for you!”

Antibiotics

Aside from topical treatments, another prescription method to consider includes certain antibiotics. Antibiotics aren’t meant for casual breakouts and are used to fight acne-causing bacteria among other things in people who face moderate to severe acne. "Even though [antibiotics] are effective against certain types of bacteria that have been associated with acne, we primarily use them for their anti-inflammatory properties," Grimm explains. "If we can reduce inflammation in and around the oil glands then we can prevent oil gland obstruction to a degree and really help with the acne."

However, it's important to be aware of the side effects and interactions of the antibiotics with other medications you are taking, as well as the implications of their use. Grimm explains that while antibiotics are effective in their treatment, they're not necessarily meant for long-term use.

"We’re really trying to limit long-term oral antibiotic use because it’s not safe for people. There are trends in bacteria that are developing resistance to specific antibiotics which is making treatment of specific bacterial infections much more difficult. MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is by far one of the most well-known things."

While antibiotics aren't a treatment to be taken lightly, they can really provide the help that you may need if you're not seeing results from anything else.

Birth control

Another popular prescription medication to help regulate acne-causing hormones is birth control. Whether it be the pill or through a hormonal birth control device (ring, IUD, etc.), this method can work wonders for those who experience acne at the fault of their hormone levels. Sarah Madaus, a junior at Temple University, credits birth control as a positive impact on her acne.

“I struggled with severe cystic acne during high school, so I went to a dermatologist,” Sarah explains. “She prescribed Retin-A, which is a retinoid topical gel, as well as birth control. The birth control regulated a few hormones that were imbalanced, which actually causes a lot of acne in young women. Paired with regular exercise and lots and lots of water my skin looked 75 percent better in just six months.”

There are many options out there when it comes to treating moderate to severe acne, so talk to your dermatologist to find the best method that fits you and your lifestyle!

Accutane

Accutane (known generically as isotretinoin) is one of the more serious prescription medications out there in fighting severe and unresponsive acne. According to drugs.com, Accutane is a form of vitamin A that works to get rid of severe, nodular acne by reducing the amount of oil released by oil glands in your skin.

"[Accutane] is a miracle for severe acne but must be dosed optimally and by someone well experienced in using the medicine," says Dr. Bailey. "The goal is not just to clear the acne while on the medicine but to create a sustained, potentially lifelong remission from acne."

Accutane is typically prescribed as a last resort method to patients who have exhausted other medicines, as the medication requires attentive use and is quite powerful. Abby Piper, a senior at the University of Notre Dame, shares her personal experience on Accutane.

“I had really bad and painful acne in high school and senior year I decided to go on Accutane,” says Abby. “I finished it in my first semester of college and it definitely helped… it did have a lot of intense side effects [as well]. My skin was so dry and the chapped lips were the absolute worst part—they started cracking and got infected at one point…” Abby explains.

Although there are some significant side effects to note, there has also been a lot of success with the drug. “I don't regret it, because it did help a lot, but there definitely were acnes scars left… it's just important to keep in mind that the process with the birth control, blood tests, iPLEDGE quizzes every month (components that enable access to the drug), doctor appointments and side effects like dry skin and muscle fatigue took a toll,” says Abby.

If you’re considering Accutane as a method, talk with your doctor about the risks, benefits and side effects to ultimately decide if it’s right for you and your lifestyle.

While getting rid of acne isn’t always easy, it helps to remember that you do have options to discuss with your dermatologist! Dealing with acne can be extremely tough, both mentally and physically, but at the end of the day, all that matters is that you’re comfortablein the skin you’re in.

4 Theories About How That Fire Factors Into Jack's Death on 'This Is Us'

Admit it: you were doing fine during the Season 2 premiere of This Is Us. You were thrilled for the show’s return but were pleasantly surprised that you weren’t having a huge emotional reaction to it. “Great!” you thought. “They’re easing us into the sad stuff this year.”

Cue the episode’s last two minutes, which revealed a heartbreaking key detail in Jack Pearson’s greatly discussed death. Presumably several months after Rebecca coaxed Jack to come home after their fight, she pulls up to their house alone to reveal it's been completely destroyed from a fire. If Rebecca’s gut-wrenching reaction to the sight doesn’t get Mandy Moore an Emmy nomination, there’s no justice in the world—just saying.

However, this reveal isn’t as black-and-white as we would have hoped. The scene included several little details that point to Jack’s death being far more complex than just him passing away in or from a fire. Who is that dog Kate was cuddling? Why does Rebecca have some of Jack’s spotless possessions with her? Who is that girl comforting Randall? Why is Kevin’s leg broken? Why are the kids with Miguel?

Since the truth will definitely be drawn out as long as possible this season, here are four possible circumstances of Jack’s death to keep us guessing.

1. Jack starts the fire in a drunken stupor

Jack confessed to Rebecca at the end of the premiere that he was currently drunk and that he has been more reliant on alcohol than ever before in the past few weeks. We saw that the Big Three are busy, social teenagers at this point in their lives, so it would be totally plausible for them to be out one night away from their parents. Perhaps Rebecca goes to pick them up and Jack accidentally starts a fire in his fog. As evident in that reveal, the house is completely charred, so whatever caused the fire was no joke.

2. Kate forgets her dog when the fire breaks out and Jack goes back to rescue it

When the triplets are 10, Jack is so in love with family life that he wants either another kid or a dog. Neither panned out, but perhaps in the ‘90s, he convinces Rebecca to get a dog to rekindle the family’s closeness after the couple’s blowup. In present day, Kate has admitted that she feels responsible for Jack’s death. People have guessed that the redhead comforting Randall at Miguel’s house is his girlfriend, and since Kevin is with Sophie, Kate could become the closest to the dog with both brothers invested in relationships. Jack may successfully rescue the dog for her, which explains its presence in the episode, but he is critically injured, which could be why Kate says that she killed her father.

3. Jack and Miguel accidentally cause the fire during construction work

Jack and Miguel work together, and Miguel is there for his friend at his lowest points. It would be totally feasible for the men to be working on the Pearson home—perhaps to distract Jack from drinking—and accidentally cause some kind of electrical fire. Perhaps Miguel escapes, but Jack isn’t so unlucky, which deepens the former’s distraught face when Kate and Randall are grieving at his house. Miguel feeling guilty about this could also explain how he grows closer to Rebecca and they eventually marry.

4. The fire was totally random, but Jack’s life was in limbo as a result, and he passed away right before the closing scene

A TIME piece pointed out that in the first season’s flashback to Jack’s funeral, Kevin doesn’t have a cast on his leg, suggesting that some time has passed between his dad’s death and the funeral. Perhaps Kevin and Jack were both injured in the fire, and Jack’s condition had been steady enough for Kevin to feel comfortable leaving his family and hanging out with Sophie. Given the severe-looking aftermath of the house fire, I wouldn’t be surprised if legal matters prevented a funeral from occurring sooner, hence why Kevin is without a cast in the flashback.

You can likely find even more creative, complex theories to hold you over until the show’s ultimate reveal. Perhaps if we all keep theorizing, Jack won’t actually die?

Netflix Is Increasing the Prices of Its Most Popular Streaming Plans

Netflix is so intertwined into society nowadays that it’s hard to imagine our everyday lives without it. Whether it’s bingeing on a new original show or playing classic Friends episodes while you’re multitasking, the streaming service is a go-to comfort item. It’s so necessary that I’m not even that mad about Netflix announcing a price increase on two of its streaming plan. There is a literal price to happiness, I suppose.

HelloGiggles reports that the most popular Netflix plan, including two users to stream HD content at the same time, will immediately increase to a monthly price of $10.99 for new users. The Premium subscription, a plan you probably haven’t heard of much, will go from $11.99 to $13.99 per month. The high-end plan allows four screens to stream simultaneously in Ultra HD 4K format. Although the cost of the non-HD single streaming plan will stay at $7.99, price changes will occur for existing members beginning on October 19.

“From time to time, Netflix plans and pricing are adjusted as we add more exclusive TV shows and movies, introduce new product features and improve the overall Netflix experience to help members find something great to watch even faster,” the company said in a statement.

I’d love to say that the best things in life are free, but Netflix may be an exception. After all, I’d gladly hand over my money for another season of The Crown or the availability of even more of my favorite old sitcoms.

The Las Vegas Gunman Reportedly Researched Locations in Boston & Chicago

The gunman that committed the United States’ deadliest mass shooting in Las Vegas earlier this week also looked into potential shooting locations in Boston and Chicago, NBC News says.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that 64-year-old Stephen Paddock researched attack locations in these major cities earlier this summer. Paddock even booked a room in a Chicago hotel during the city’s Lollapalooza festival, which ran from Aug 3 to Aug. 6. He reserved two rooms in the Blackstone Hotel for its view of Grant Park, where the festival was occurring, but he never turned up to use the space. This year’s Lollapalooza hosted artists such as Lorde, the Killers and Chance the Rapper, and frequent attendee Malia Obama was among the concert’s crowd.

Paddock also researched Boston’s Fenway Park and the city’s Center for the Arts, but authorities believe that he abandoned any plans to target Boston because most nearby hotels have obstructed views of the baseball stadium. The Boston Globe reports that it’s unknown whether or not Paddock ever came to the city.

“While there is currently no credible threat to Fenway Park according to public safety agencies, the Red Sox have been working with city, state and federal officials on increased security measures for postseason games at Fenway Park,” Red Sox spokeswoman Zineb Curran said in a statement.

Boston Police Commissioner William B. Evans also told The Globe that investigations related to Paddock were still based in Nevada but that security forces were ready for upcoming public events in his city. In reference to Red Sox playoff games and a Bruno Mars concert, Evans said, “We are going to step up, we are going to step up our attention.”

Paddock also rented a condo in a building that overlooked a Las Vegas alternative music festival the weekend before his mass shooting.

Years of Sexual Harassment Allegations Have Emerged Against Film Producer Harvey Weinstein

The New York Times has reported that major Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein committed sexual harassment towards actresses, employees and interns throughout the past 30 years. Reports of these incidents were revealed primarily through emails and internal documents from Weinstein's businesses, Miramax and the Weinstein Company.

Actress Ashley Judd, known for her roles in Where the Heart Is and the Divergent franchise, is a notable name tied to the report, sharing about a 1997 encounter with Weinstein. The film mogul invited her to a breakfast meeting in his Beverly Hills hotel suite, where Weinstein wore a bathrobe and repeatedly asked if he could give her a massage. Judd rejected this proposal, leading to Weinstein asking if she would watch him take a shower.

"I said no, a lot of ways, a lot of times, and he always came back to me with some new ask," Judd told The Times. "It was all this bargaining, this coercive bargaining."

Judd felt "panicky" and "trapped" in the situation, feeling pressured because of Weinstein's prominent influence in the film industry. "How do I get out of the room as fast as possible without alienating Harvey Weinstein?" she said she thought at the time.

Temporary employee Emily Nestor claims that, in 2014, Weinstein offered to help her in her career if she accepted his sexual proposals. Lauren O'Connor, another Weinstein employee, detailed his inappropriate behavior in a 2015 memo she wrote to company executives. When she received an undisclosed settlement from Weinstein after sending the memo, she withdrew her statement.

"There is a toxic environment for women at this company," she wrote. "I am a 28-year-old woman trying to make a living and a career. Harvey Weinstein is a 64-year-old, world-famous man, and this is his company. The balance of power is me: zero, Harvey Weinstein: 10."

The Times investigation revealed previously undisclosed sexual harassment allegations against Weinstein, who reached at least eight settlements with women over this decades-long span. One of Weinstein's lawyers, Lisa Bloom, said that her boss "denies many of the accusations as patently false."

"I appreciate the way I've behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it," Weinstein said in a statement exclusively for The Times. "Though I'm trying to do better, I know I have a long way to go."

Several current and former employees have admitted that they were aware of Weinstein's behavior, but only a few tried to confront him about it.

"I came of age in the '60s and '70s, when all the rules about behavior and workplaces were different," Weinstein explained in his statement. "That was the culture then."

Weinstein is best known for his producer credits on films such as Good Will Hunting, Shakespeare in Love, Pulp Fiction and The King's Speech. He has maintained a public persona as a champion for women, distributing the campus sexual assault documentary The Hunting Ground, campaigning for Hillary Clinton and even hiring Malia Obama as a company intern.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Weinstein will sue The New York Times for its report, as an attorney said that it "relies on mostly hearsay accounts and a faulty report...which has been debunked by nine different eyewitnesses. We sent the Times the facts and evidence, but they ignored it and rushed to publish."

Weinstein will also take a leave of absence from his company.

9 Situations Only People Who Suppress Their Feelings Can Relate To

$

Those who suppress their feelings are no strangers to regret about things left unsaid. The amount of reasons you lock up your genuine emotions are endless. It's not that you care about protecting your feelings—you simply choose to hold it all in until you explode. After all, if you don't acknowledge there's a problem, does it even exist?

1. When you sit through a sad movie without shedding a tear

It may be hard, but the ability to keep all those emotions under wraps is a testament to your true strength. To some, you may come off as "heartless," but you're just willing yourself to stay strong. The feels you experience are very real. Nobody can keep a straight face the way you do.

2. Getting stuck with lazy people during a group project

So many things you'd like to say, so many emotions (mainly anger) you choose not to express. You're secretly afraid you may actually lose it during your presentation.

3. You pretend not to care about the discussion when those around you are in a heated debate on a controversial topic

Everyone thinks you're as cool as a cucumber. But really, you've got some pretty strong opinions In your head. You know there is a right or wrong side to take. Obviously, your view on the matter is the correct one, but you won't ever say it.

4. When your friend does or says something offensive, you won't admit it bothered you

Rest assured, a grudge will be formed. That grudge will likely be held until the end of eternity.

5. Having those days when everyone from the waiter at a restaurant to that person sharpening their pencil for too long easily gets on your nerves

You're seething on the inside. But nobody will know because outward frustration leads to questioning and questioning leads to talking about the feelings you've worked so hard to squash.

6. "I'm fine" is the only answer people will get when they ask if anything is bothering you

If I don't acknowledge my ill feelings, they don't exist. So, there's no problem. Right?!

7. Your crush likely has no clue the way you feel about them

And they likely never will. Your subtle "I will show no emotion or signs of caring about you and your life" game is too strong.

8. When you witness your friend making a bad decision but you refuse to shake sense into them

You couldn't care less on the outside. Yet, you're screaming internally. You convince everyone you couldn't care less in order to avoid stirring the pot. You don't want people to think you actually do care.

9. That overwhelming desire to curl up in a ball and cry upon receiving a bad grade

As Cameron Diaz from The Other Woman once said, "Cry on the inside like a winner." Preach girl, preach.

When life gets hard, you know the best thing to do is to set all those feelings and emotions free. But the reality of what you actually do is totally different. Just get in the breakdown lane and cry about it—on the inside, of course.
