I Finally Gave In & Tried a Fancy Eye Cream, & Now I’m Never Going Back

This week, I took over the @HerCampus Instagram Story to showcase my Get Ready With Me, and I just had to head over here to tell you about my new fave skincare product: a fancy eye cream. Skincare is so important (duh), but some people forget that their eye area needs some love too. I use to be one of those people until I came across Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. Now, I'm never going back.

I did some research and spent hours reading through reviews. After hearing how amazing this is supposed to be, I knew I had to give it a try.

Here’s why this eye cream is basically magic.

While Kiehl’s is obviously one of the best skin care companies, what truly sold me on this product was the avocado. Avocado oil is known to be the most moisturizing of any fruit oil. It's also a source of vitamins A, D, E and potassium. Yet, another reason to love avocados!

Another bonus with this eye treatment is that it also contains beta-carotene and shea butter. Both give amazing benefits to your skincare routine such as vitamins, production from dehydration, and restoring and improving the appearance of skin. Perfect for all skin types!

Here’s how it went down.

So how does this eye treatment work? Gently tap the cream along your orbital bone with your fingertip morning or night. Personally, I like to use this cream at night time. After I get out of the shower, apply my normal face cream, do any other skincare steps, and lastly apply this. It definitely gives a nice cooling, hydrated feeling.

The bottle says that it “smooths skin with a uniquely-concentrated formula that won’t migrate into your eyes,” and that's def not a lie. It's not oily, and once you put it on, it feels so light on your skin and does not budge. YES 🙌

It starts absorbing into your skin from the second you put it on, and the glow is so real, you guys.

Overall, I think if you aren’t on the eye cream bandwagon, then you definitely need to hop on and try this Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. It is the perfect skin treat addition you never knew you needed, and it's the best treatment to make up for all those late nights at the library.

A Virginia GOP Candidate Made The Most Bizarre Campaign Video & I Can't Even Believe My Eyes

American political ads come in all shapes, sizes and amounts of weirdness. It seems like there’s always one particularly bizarre one during major election cycles that ends up making the rounds on the Internet, but West Virginia Republican Patrick Morrisey’s most recent ad might just be the strangest yet. It features flying mountains, according to Bustle.

Morrisey’s political ad debuted on Twitter on Thursday. The video is only 30 seconds long, but it’s packed full of sound bites alongside the levitating mountain. The tweet that accompanied the video said, “I’m running for U.S. Senate not to just change Washington [D.C.] but to blow it up and reinvent it. Washington is fundamentally broken. We can fix that with a West Virginia conservative fighter.”

The first few scenes of the political ad are like any other, with evocative visuals such as a man being led away in handcuffs while an intense voiceover describes how Morrisey “blocked Obama’s illegal amnesty plan.” A good deal of the video is against various legislation and ideas enacted by former President Barack Obama. Specifically, his “war on jobs,” as the video calls it.

Then, things take a turn for the odd. West Virginia’s landmark Seneca Rocks are shown uprooting themselves and soaring into the sky, where they seem to make a beeline straight for Capitol Hill and smash into the building. Morrisey pops back into the ad with a thumbs up to say, “That’s better! We’ll take on Washington liberals.”

Morrisey goes on to boast about his A plus NRA rating as well as his continuing dedication to many other conservative political values for the remainder of the ad.

Reactions on Twitter varied from amused and entertained by the absurdity of the ad to angry at the values it espoused:

It’s honestly impressive that all of the content of the ad was jammed into just 30 seconds. It’s truly a wild ride from start to finish.

Jennifer Lopez's New 70-Piece Makeup Line Specializes in Medium Skin Tones

Celebrities are finally giving fans what we really want: beauty releases and makeup collabs galore. The Rihanna-obsessed got Fenty Beauty and the Kardashian/Jenner club got a treat with Kylie Cosmetics and KKW Beauty, but these successful lines are only the start of what's coming. Joining these gals in their beautiful business ventures, Jennifer Lopez announced that she will also be releasing a makeup line of her own!

According to Hello Giggles, the icon is collaborating with Inglot Cosmetics to craft her own products. If you aren’t familiar with Inglot Cosmetics, then clearly you’re a glow-o-phobe because Inglot is best known for its nearly incandescent highlighters and hyper-pigmented eyeshadows. J.Lo’s makeup artist, Scott Barnes, initially broke the news about the star's "Caliente" new endeavor on Instagram, hinting at the release of an original bronzer.

However, bronzer isn’t the only product in Lopez’s upcoming launch. PEOPLE notes that J.Lo plans to include 70 different products in her offerings, so we know we'll have a variety of hues to choose from (JK, we’re going to buy three of every shade).

While "Love Don’t Cost a Thing," you can reportedly buy J.Lo’s line for an affordable price when it officially hits the market on April 26. Lopez told Women’s Wear Daily that affordability was played an integral role when she was creating this brand. “I really wanted to make it representative of what I would like, what I would use, from the color but also the quality,” she explained. “The price point was very important to me, which is why I chose to partner with Inglot. We can create great quality products that are affordable.” In fact, the most expensive item is $49, whereas everything else runs from $8.50 to $26.

Although the J.Lo has yet to tease us with the brand’s packaging, PEOPLE notes that the first palette, which is a customizable build-your-own palette, will be sold for pre-sale on April 17. While you will be able to buy Jennifer Lopez’s brand on the Inglot Cosmetics website (and J.Lo’s own affiliate Inglot website), Inglot also has hundreds of stores throughout the U.S. in addition to placement at select Macy’s locations.

Now that J.Lo can add makeup mogul to her already extensive list of accolades and titles, we can’t help but wonder which celeb will release their own star-studded beauty brand next – but our bet is that Cardi B will be the next celeb to invade our makeup routine.

How to Get the Most Instagram-Ready Coachella Shots This Festival Season

$

‘Tis the season to be even more Instagram-obsessed than usual: festival season. We’re heading to Coachella this year, and we’re excited for the music and the fashion, but we’ve gotta be honest and say we’re mostly just pumped for how much we’ll get to step up our Instagram game. After all, what’s festival season without a seriously killer IG presence?

Whether you’re going to Coachella, hitting up another festival, or simply looking to get major likes, we’ve got the ultimate guide to getting the shots you need (and that your followers deserve). So let’s hang to talk IG tips, shall we? And don’t forget to send this to your equally IG-obsessed friend and/or personal photographer.

1. Hashtags aren’t an option – they’re essential.

Long gone are the days where hashtags made you look thirsty AF for followers. Now, we all generally recognize that hashtags have to happen if you want to contribute to the overall story of an event. Make sure to tag pretty much every post with #Coachella to make sure your shot isn’t lost.

A post shared by Her Campus Style (@hercampusstyle) on

2. Follow the right accounts.

Whether you want behind-the-scenes looks at your faves, or just need help finding the food truck of your dreams, you’ve got three main accounts to follow: @Coachella, @DesertSun (Coachella Valley’s number one most-viewed news source), and, of course, @HerCampus, because we know what you really really want from Coachella.

3. Don’t wanna flood your feed? Use Stories.

If you aren’t already posting to your Instagram Story on a daily basis, one, um, why??, and two, it’s time to get with the times. Instagram Stories is super simple, beyond gorgeous, and seriously essential for being a part of any event, whether that’s your ~get ready with me~ or you and your BFF finally nailing that boomerang. Don’t forget to use polls, superzoom, and endless gifs (the newest and best part of IG IMO) to spice things up. And make sure to add text for your friends who never have their volume on.

4. Get help nailing the perfect pose.

I know I’m not the only one who saves other people’s pictures to my collection for future IG-inspo… right? Right. If you and your friends just cannot get a decent picture for the life of you, try this hack I swear by: Hit up the #Coachella hashtag, do some scrolling, and find some inspo. Then, arrange all those limbs, get everyone to finally look at the same phone, and get the pic of your dreams. No shame in your Insta-game.

5. Go Live.

BFF can’t make it to Coachella? Use Instagram Live so she can feel like she’s right there with ya. Are you that friend? Ask to join a friend’s live, or join in with @HerCampus. We’ll be live, and we want you to come hang with us! Just tap “request to join” to make yourself known, or hang out in the comments and ask loads ands loads of questions so you don’t miss out on a single second.

6. Follow hashtags.

If you’re really dedicated to all things festival (like, duh), follow these hashtags to see what’s going down.

  • #Coachella
  • #Coachella2018
  • #FestivalFashion
  • #FestivalBeauty
  • #FerrisWheel

7. Share secrets by sliding in your BFFs DMs.

Hey, not everything is meant for the public eye. Send your most bizarre selfies and those ~killer dance moves~ to your friends via DM, or just use DMs to figure out where TF your best friend disappeared to.

We want your questions, your Coachella fashion tips, and your fave act of the weekend. Happy festival season, and well see you soon on @HerCampus!

Lin Manuel Miranda Has Shingles & Promised To Keep Wearing A 'Phantom Of The Opera' Mask Until He's Better

Broadway megastar Lin Manual Miranda has been everywhere lately. Including the doctor's office.

Recently, the Hamilton star had complained on twitter of having the worst migraine of his life. The pain was so excruciating that he took himself to the doctor and found out that it wasn't a migraine at all. It was shingles!

He tweeted the diagnosis to his fans:

While at the appointment, the doctor advised that he wear what looked like a Phantom of the Opera mask which had the star tweeting that it made things totally awkward since he's the star of a totally different Broadway show!

The joke reached all the way to Emmy Rossum (who starred as Christine in the 2005 film adaptation of Phantom) and she said she was available for duets! Now that would be something!

And while the joke is hilarious and he'll have to wear the mask while he recovers, The Los Angeles Times reports that sad news that the diagnosis will prevent him from some serious family time. Miranda was instructed to remain quarantined from his 8-week-old son Francisco so he doesn't spread the virus to the infant. Lin Manuel will be staying with his parents nearby so as to keep his children safe.

We hope you feel better soon, Lin Manuel!

The Internet Wasn't Thrilled With Lorde's Bathtub Whitney Houston Photo For Obvious Reasons

$

Lorde found herself in hot water on Instagram when she posted what she surely thought was a benign photo of a bathtub with the caption "And iiii will always love you." Referencing the popular Whitney Houston song got her a lot of attention, and not the good kind.

In case you didn't connect the the dots, Whitney Houston died from accidental drowning in her bathtub due to a combination of heart disease and her cocaine addiction. On top of that, her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, also died in the bathtub. So referencing a bath and a Whitney song in the same post? It comes across pretty tone deaf.

Lorde clearly did not connect the dots when crafting the now deleted post, but upon realizing her error (and probably from the swarm of fans coming for her on social media) she issued an apology via her Instagram story.

She wrote: "Extremely extremely poorly chosen quote. I'm so sorry for offending anyone — I hadn't even put this together I was just excited to take a bath. I'm an idiot. Love Whitney forever and ever. Sorry again."

Hell hath no fury like Whitney Houston fans.

A Train Full Of Human Waste Has Been Stuck In Alabama For Months & People Are Really Hoping It Doesn’t Get Hot

The town of Parrish, Alabama, home to 982 people, is knee deep in a messy situation.

Two months ago, waste management facilities in New York and New Jersey sent over 10 million pounds of human feces in shipping containers to Big Sky Environmental, a private landfill in Adamsville, Alabama. However, the waste would have to travel by railcar through various cities, and one of those cities, West Jefferson, Alabama filed an injunction to keep the waste from entering their town. They won and the waste was relegated to Parrish, where it has been sitting for over two months, according to Newsweek.

The town of Parrish has no zoning laws to prevent the waste from being dumped on them, and Mayor Heather Hall, is doing everything in her power to remove it.

Hall told CNN, ““It greatly reduces the quality of life. You can’t sit out on your porch. Kids can’t go outside and play, and God help us if it gets hot and this material is still out here.”

The Environmental Protection Agency and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management has assured residents that the waste is not dangerous but the town is still concerned.

Hall said, “Other than it smelling absolutely terrible, I have to trust them that it’s not going to hurt you.”

Big Sky Environmental has yet to reach out to Hall and the town of Parrish to give them an estimate for when the waste will be removed, despite their original agreement of seven to 10 days.

It has been over two months, and with temperatures rising, residents are worried it will only get worse before it gets better.

Parkland Survivors Speak Up for Minority Gun Violence Victims with #StoriesUntold

If you thought the students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School were done yet, think again.

#StoriesUntold, the latest initiative out of Parkland, FL after the Feb. 14th school shooting — following the student-organized March For Our Lives and speech upon speech advocating for gun reform in the U.S. —was sparked from a realization that students with minority backgrounds from MSD high school were not being as represented by the media as their white peers.

Carlitos Rodriguez, a 17-year-old junior from the high school, began the hashtag on Twitter following the students’ return to school earlier this week in an attempt to provide a spotlight for his fellow survivors that aren’t being properly represented.

Rodriguez tells Teen Vogue that he has already started compiling a video series of MSD survivors sharing their experiences from the day of the shooting.

"I'm a video production student, so I have the ability to leave class and record with other students," he says.

"I want to let students that have experienced gun violence and haven't been able to speak out know to never feel like they have to stay in silence. #StoriesUntold is a place where their voices will be amplified.”

The hashtag has spread to include experiences of those outside of Parkland. Rodriguez says he’s hoping to hear from students in cities like Chicago, Boston and Baltimore where gun violence is a prevalent issue.

Students and other survivors are using the hashtag to recount their experiences and give voice to victims including people of color, ultimately to shed some light on gun violence in minority communities.

Broward County, which includes Parkland, is the most racially diverse county in South Florida.

“I hope that throughout the years, gun violence isn't something that #StoriesUntold has to cover anymore,” Rodriguez says. “I hope that the stories run out. I hope that the water stops running from there. I don't want anybody to ever live through it. Not only at school — anywhere."

Get A First Look At Ross Lynch & Kiernan Shipka In The New "Dark" Reboot of "Sabrina"

Fans of Riverdale and fans of the OG Sabrina the Teenage Witch are waiting in anticipation for the new reboot, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, another Archie Comics show. But other than tidbits of news here and there, the deets of the new Netflix series are being kept under wraps. But luckily, the creator of Sabrina, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, blessed us all with a first look at Kiernan Shipka, taking on the role of Sabrina, and Ross Lynch, who's playing her love interest Harvey, together on set.

The older Sabrina the Teenage Witch was a sitcom, but the new Sabrina show is supposed to be much darker. EW says it "reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult, and — of course — witchcraft." If you're clamoring for more details, I recommend following Aguirre-Sacasa on Twitter, who has been dropping hints and revealing cast members for a couple of months now.

Here's hoping Salem the cat is still as sassy as he was in the original.

Lifetime Shared The Latest Trailer For Their Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Biopic

The world has been in a tizzy since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement late last year. We've collectively worried ourselves over which celebrities will make the guest list and her wedding party, the designer of her dress and if the spice girls really will be performing the reception.

Royal wedding fever has even managed to infect those over at Lifetime! The popular network immediately got to work on the Prince Harry & Meghan Markle love story adaptation and now, we have a teaser trailer for the TV movie! The trailer is 45 seconds long, but it's all of the cheesiness you want and expect from a Lifetime movie.

The Cut points out an especially cheesy line where the Prince Harry character says, "I don't need my life to be this perfect royal picture...I just need you."

Excuse me, does anybody have any bread for all of that cheese?!

For a TV movie, they managed to get two actors who look quite similar to their real life counterparts. Murray Fraser plays Prince Harry while Parisa Fitz-Henley portrays Meghan Markle. The film will span everything from Harry's single life as the party boy to their first date and then his proposal at the cottage they share at Kensington Palace.

Prince Harry & Meghan Markle: A Royal Romance premieres on Lifetime May 6th, just two weeks before the royal wedding on May 19th.

Watch the trailer and sound off on Twitter to let us know what you think! Will you be watching?!

Trump Will Reportedly Skip The White House Correspondents Dinner, Again

Every year the country’s best journalists and reporters gather in the heart of Washington D.C. for the annual White House Correspondent’s Dinner.  The event, ran by the White House Corespondent’s Association, an organization that represents the White House press corps features a prominent comedian who roasts the president, his administration and the press.

President Trump will not be attending this year’s gala, “continuing a boycott that began his first year in office,” according to The New York Times. However, he is actively encouraging his administration to attend.

White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders will be representing the Trump administration this year, and will be sitting at the head table, where presidents and first ladies have sat in years past.

Last year’s event featured Hasan Minhaj, a stand-up comedian and correspondent for, “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.”  The year before that, President Obama attended his final correspondent’s dinner as president and even took the mic to make a few mocking remarks towards Donald Trump himself.

The event, which honors and celebrates the First Amendment is a stunning reminder of how powerful and important a free press is. And without a free press a democracy cannot thrive.

This year, Michelle Wolf, a regular contributor to, "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah," will be the featured comedian.

A Teen in Turkey Took to Reddit for Some Basic Sex Ed & They Actually Delivered!

Burhan Canbaz, a Dutch 18-year-old living in Turkey, turned to Reddit seeking advice on initiating sex.

*shudder*, right?

But it actually (surprisingly) worked out!

Canbaz’s original inquiry, posted with the title, “I'm autistic and I don't know how sex happens,” read, “Hi everyone. I am autistic, and of course I know how it physically works, but how exactly is the part before you start making out and stuff? How do you let someone know you are sexually attracted? How do you know someone is sexually attracted to you? And how do you set up a situation where sex happens?Reddit, usually known for Internet trolls and snarky users hiding behind screen names (from my very limited use of it, at least), came to Canbaz’s aid and skipped any shaming or bullying, opting instead for mature, usable and sometimes even vulnerable information, going so far as to ask Canbaz for context to better assist him.

Canbaz himself was surprised, at one point commenting, “Wtf this is so weird, I'm on the Internet, but people are actually helping me instead of making fun of me. Thank (sic) everyone so much.”

Related: Subreddits That Are Actually Useful For Life

Over 400 users added to the thread, which Canbaz says was remarkably helpful in an interview with Tonic.

“The problem is, my mum is Muslim and very conservative, so she couldn’t help me. My friends are also very conservative. They can’t do shit, man. Then I ended up at a very religious high school in Turkey where they didn't teach sex ed. So everybody’s on their own,” he says.

But with advice from his new Internet friends, including knowing how far consent goes, staying verbal about what you like and being honest about his difficulty with social cues, Canbaz says he definitely benefited from his shot in the Reddit dark.

“It turned out quite a few people wanted to help. I actually learned something that was useful. There’s a lot more for me to learn, obviously, but it was a great start,” he says.

7 Things You Should Know If You Want to Be a College Athlete

$

Being an athlete in high school pretty much feels like constant senioritis, because you’re so stoked to get to college and play already. Whether your passion is on the field, rink, ring or court, there are a few things to know about college athletics before you’re ready to score. Here are seven absolutely necessary steps you need to take to land a spot on the dream team at your future alma mater.

1. Learn about the different divisions and leagues

When you start college, you’ll most likely be playing as part of the National Collegiate Athletics Association, as it’s the largest, most well-known non-profit organization that regulates athletes, and from football to golf, it pretty much rules the college sports world. The NCAA is present at 1,121 colleges and universities, and contains three different divisions you can play for.

Division I is considered the big leagues and grooms you into a professional athlete. It is present on the most campuses, and puts students directly in the sports spotlight. Division II focuses on balance between athletics and academics, so it’s great for any student who’s passionate about their sport but still soaking up the college experience. Division III, though still high-intensity, has the lowest stakes and hones in on the “student” part of student-athlete. Division III is perfect if you want to play sports while you pursue a career related to your major.

Sophia Walker, a senior at Bowdoin College brings up some major considerations when thinking about the division you should pitch yourself for. “Divisions I, II and III are all very different, and club sports are also an option,” she says. “Are you willing to train year-round [like in] Division I and II? Or do you want a break out of season [like in] Division III? Do you want to pursue other things alongside your athletics, like research over the summer? Some programs will let you go abroad, for example, and others won't. These are all things to consider.”

If none of these options sound fitting for you, consider club or intramural sports. Club sports are student-run, but can be just as competitive and rigorous. Intramurals are set up so that students at the same college can compete against one another. Intramurals are the least time-consuming and least competitive, but still offer a lot of fun bonding opportunities.

2. Understand the recruitment process

So, you've decided you want to be a college athlete. What's next? Well, recruitment for any of the three divisions can be difficult, because while it may be your goal to end up in a specific division, there is no guarantee you’ll get your first choice. Instead, you must choose from who contacts you and what these contacts offer. According to the NCAA Eligibility Center, “if a college coach calls you more than once, contacts you off campus, pays your expenses to visit the campus, or in Divisions I and II, issues you a National Letter of Intent or a written offer of financial aid, you are considered to be recruited.”

Faith Mimnaugh, the head coach of women’s basketball at California Polytechnic State University, a Division I school, explains the recruitment process for those wanting to be college athletes. “The recruitment process varies with each division, and there’s a lot of variation between student-athletes,” she says. “[A] student should start by narrowing down a list of schools [she'd] like to attend or play for. Not every sport is available at every college, so it requires a lot of research on the student’s part. Then it generally begins when you make contact with a coach to let [him or her] know you’d like to play for them, unless you’re so well-known that coaches are contacting you and sending you letters and scholarship offers.”

Mimnaugh suggests that the most efficient way to contact a coach is via email. When you do this, make sure to include your high school, expected graduation date, coach's contact information, your positions, athletic resume, sport statistics and any awards you’ve received. The NCAA prohibits coaches from contacting students before their junior year, so once your junior year begins start putting yourself out there. Once you’ve made contact with a coach, keep them up-to-date on your athletic achievements, and even invite them to one of your tournaments or showcases.

If you want to impress a coach even more, include a video compilation of your very best stuff. This way, a prospective coach can get a first-hand experience of just how truly amazing you are. Seven or eight minutes of footage is all it takes to sell yourself.

“By taking recruitment in your own hands, you have more of a chance to end up at the school and in the division you want,” Mimnaugh says. “Then, the rest of recruitment is on the coach. Phone calls, letters, unofficial or official campus visits and a visit from the coach are regular and should be expected.”

Though you ultimately must wait to be recruited for a school and will have to choose from those offers, there is still a lot of proactive work you can be doing to end up where you want.

3. Make sure you meet requirements

Did you know the NCAA has very strict requirements for new college athletes? Not only do you need to have incredible athletic ability, but you also need to be academically equipped for all college is going to throw at you. The best way to ensure success while you’re still in high school is by keeping your grades high and working on your study habits.

More specifically, you’ll need to meet your prospective college’s admission requirements – it depends on the school, but usually maintaining a 3.0 GPA and scoring at least a 1500 on your SAT is acceptable. Then, apply for the NCAA Eligibility Center certification after your junior year. When you take your SAT or ACT, use code 9999 in the recipient section to have your scores sent straight to the Eligibility Center.  If you’re looking for more information, the NCAA has a handy guide.

College athletes need to be in shape physically and academically, because you will be balancing a full course load and full extracurricular schedule in college, which even many normal full-time students can’t handle. Take care of yourself and try hard, and you’ll be an all-star collegiette in no time.

4. Get obsessed with your prospective college

Once you’ve received an offer, find out literally everything you can and get obsessed with your future team. Visit the campus, meet with the coach, talk to current team members, learn how to balance your practice time with your major. Covering all the bases and soaking up information will make you especially prepared come time for school. Most importantly, you want to love the team and school you’ll be spending the next four years at, so it helps to be super prepared now to avoid disappointment later.

Lauryn Higgins, a former student-athlete who ran track and field at Mars Hill University, a Division II school, has some practical advice for checking out if a college’s team is right for you. “Request an overnight stay!” she says. “Visit the campus, attend a practice and stay the night in a dorm room with a current member of the team you're looking to compete on. Most schools will accommodate this, so just ask. It's a great way to get a feel for the team environment, the schedule, the type of practice and if you even like the school.”

When you get the chance to talk with coaches and other players, these are some of the questions you should be asking: What does your typical daily schedule look like? How rigorous is your travel schedule? Approximately how many hours a night do you study? What assistance is available if you have academic problems? Were changes made to any promises once you committed/enrolled? Get the answers to these, and it will feel you’re already part of the team. Knowing everything about your future college will have you next-level obsessed – in the best way.

5. Visualize what you want your college experience to look like

Do you want to double major or add a minor? Do you want spend a semester studying abroad? Are you planning on completing internships related to your degree? Do you want to be involved in Greek life? These are just some of the questions you need to be asking yourself that will help determine the type of athletics you should pursue in college.

Most of us already find it hard to manage our time in college without playing a sport, so as a student-athlete, you need to be prepared to make some social sacrifices for the benefit of your classes and athletic practice. The average college athlete spends 20 hours a week in class and more than 30 hours a week at practice. This sets you up for a lot of stress.

Lauryn has witnessed this stress firsthand. “It was common for two out of the 10 freshman athletes to quit our track and field team by spring semester because they just couldn't handle the workload,” she says. “Also, the excitement of going out and being in college outweighed the excitement of being college athlete. When you're an athlete, you don't have the luxury of eating fast food, drinking at parties or staying up late on weekends. You really have to make sacrifices, and it’s something you need to be aware of before you step into the world of collegiate athletics.”

If you’re more interested in a traditional college experience like being involved in your major, exploring your college town and hanging out with your friends till the sun goes down, realize the hard truth that you can’t have the best of both worlds. Division I and II don’t always flow with the desires of a fun, relaxed college student. It doesn’t mean you must sacrifice athletics entirely – just choose a Division III school or join a club sport to find your own personal balance.

6. Find a scholarship

First, we need to debunk the myth that you’ll be able to get a full-ride scholarship through college. It’s unlikely that your award will cover the full cost of your tuition, but the average athletic scholarship in 2016 still came out to over $5,000 a year. Is it worth it? Definitely, if you love your sport.

Know that a scholarship isn’t guaranteed for all four years, either. It’s usually up to the coach's discretion whether your scholarship will be renewed. If you’re legitimately looking to earn a four-year scholarship, consider a Division III school where you’re more likely to get a merit scholarship for your accomplishments than you would be to earn a full sports scholarship at a Division I or II school.

We recommend checking out the scholarship options available at your college for athletes, and then looking at specific academic scholarships relating to your major. Any amount of financial aid helps, and once you’ve exhausted your scholarship options, don’t forget to fill out your FAFSA.

7. Realize the most important part of college is your education

Don’t let the thrill of sports distract you from the main reason you’re at college: to get an education and earn your college degree. Many college athletes aren’t able to succeed if they are pursuing a time-intensive major, so if your career goal is to become a doctor, being a college athlete may not be in your best interest. It’s likely that if you’re on a Division I sports team, you’ll need to choose a major that requires less class time, leaving more of your day for the field.

Remember that even if you get the chance to go pro, sports careers can end abruptly. Don’t disregard the importance of your degree thinking you won’t need it. It could be a valuable cushion, because your involvement in sports may not continue after college. Your motto should be college first, sports second. That’s why choosing a Division III school where there is less emphasis on sports is a good option if you’re a person that wants balance between the two.

Sophie has a newsflash for those considering the dedicated athlete life: “Varsity athletics can be very challenging to maintain alongside a full course load, so make sure you have an idea of what your life outside of your team will look like before committing to anything.”

We hope you feel a little more prepared to take on the world of college athletics. Trust in your own talent and abilities, and know that you’ll end up on the best college and team for you. Every athlete will have a different experience, and what matters is that you feel fulfilled and not exhausted by your experience. Good luck, collegiette! We’ll be cheering you on from the stands.

The Team Behind 'Stranger Things' Is Allegedly Being Sued For Stealing Ideas For The Show

The creators of Stranger Things are being sued for allegedly stealing the idea for the hit Netflix show.

Matt and Ross Duffer, also known as "The Duffer Brothers," created the concept for Stranger Things in 2015, and the show was picked up by Netflix and ultimately released in July of 2016.

The show centers on the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana in the '80s and the disappearance of a young boy to supernatural and paranormal forces. The show quickly became a hit and its second season averaged 8.8 million viewers per episode within the first three days of its release, according to Variety.

Filmmaker Charlie Kessler alleges that the Duffer Brothers based the plot of the show off of his 2012 short film, Montauk, and his script for a longer film entitled The Montauk Project.  He claims that the film was actually pitched to the Duffer Brothers to be turned into a TV show in 2014. Kessler alleges that after his meeting with the Duffer Brothers, he was under the impression that they were not moving forward with turning the film into a show. But, when Stranger Things was released, he was shocked to see the similarities between the two.

Kessler is being represented by attorney Michael Kernan, who said, "After the massive success of Stranger Things ... Defendants have made huge sums of money by producing the series based on Plaintiff's Concepts."

The Duffer Brothers have said in the past that the show was initially going to be called Montauk. In an interview with The Hollywood ReporterMatt Duffer addressed the show's name change and cited his reasoning for wanting the show to take place on Long Island.

"We liked Montauk, because we liked the coastal setting, and Montauk was the basis for Amity, and Jaws is probably our favorite movie, so I thought that that would be really cool," he said. "Then it was really going to be impossible to shoot in or around Long Island in the wintertime."

Netflix has not publicly responded to the allegations yet, but the Duffer Brothers have denied that they stole the concept for their show.

In a statement via email, Alex Kohner, the attorney representing Matt and Ross Duffer, told Newsweek that the Duffer Brothers had never met Kessler, nor had they seen his film.

"Mr. Kessler’s claim is completely meritless. He had no connection to the creation or development of Stranger Things. The Duffer Brothers have neither seen Mr. Kessler’s short film nor discussed any project with him. This is just an attempt to profit from other people’s creativity and hard work," the statement said.

Adele released her album 25 in 2015. Her vocal chords have continued to shake the world with songs like “Hello” ever since, but she’s mostly been out of the spotlight to focus on her family. But what has the golden-throated goddess been up to for the past few years?

Oh, you know, just uniting people in the bonds of marriage.

The singer officiated the wedding of her friend Alan Carr, host of the BBC talk show Chatty Man, on April 2. She posted this photo on Instagram, immediately giving me wedding fever.

Look at the floral backdrop! Look at her makeup! Look at her cloak! If that’s how the wedding officiant looked, imagine how amazing Carr and his husband looked together.

Adele and Carr met at the 2008 BRIT Awards and have been friends ever since. Carr told the Mirror that Adele planned the whole wedding, hosted it at her own home in Los Angeles and even sang songs for the couple’s first dance.

"We've known her for ages and we told her we were getting married, and she went, 'Can I please plan the whole day for you?'"

Get yourself a best friend like Adele, right?

"She's a one-off, as we all know,” Carr said. “She's just the best."

A multi-talented singer/songwriter/wedding planner/ BFF. What more could you possibly want?

Look. I’m not 20 yet. I have almost no money in my bank account. But if eventually Adele wanted to do some pro bono wedding planning, she is more than welcome to hit me up.

This Family Sang 'One Day More' From 'Les Misérables'& Took Karaoke to a Broadway Level

When your entire family is beyond musically-inclined, it only makes sense to hold a full on theatrical performance in your living room, right? Well that’s exactly what this Utah family did.

The LeBaron family decided to add the ultimate touch to their Easter Sunday by singing “One Day More” from the Broadway hit Les Misérables.

If you know the play, or have seen the movie adaption of it, then you know that this is easily one of the toughest songs in the show, filled with harmonies and consisting of so many parts since the entire cast literally sings in the song.

But that didn’t stop the LeBarons.

According to Today, the five LeBaron siblings, along with their spouses, all played the different characters in the song, with Jayson LeBaron and Landon LeBaron leading the pack by singing as Jean Valjean and Javert, respectively.

“Anyone looking to do Les Misérables for their next show?” Jordon LeBaron captioned the video shared on Facebook, PopSugar reports. “Better yet...anyone looking for an entire cast?”

“We've all grown up singing together and we all married musically talented people. We all got involved with musical theater and did a lot of shows in high school and college. Music has been a unifying thing in our family,” Jayson LeBaron told KUTV.

I mean, if anyone is looking for an entire cast for their future Les Misérables production, this family is for you because they totally crushed it.

7 Ways to Show Intimacy Without Having Sex

Intimacy is usually lumped together with sex, but they can easily be independent of each other. According to Merriam-Webster, intimacy is defined as “a close, familiar, and usually affectionate or loving personal relationship with another person or group.” Intimacy is such an important aspect of a relationship and it reaches so much farther than sex, because sometimes sex just isn’t right or even possible. So here are some ways to spice up your romance *outside* of the bedroom.

1. Hold hands

Holding hands with your SO is more important than it might seem. It makes you feel deeply connected to that person, even if you’re just walking down the street. “My SO and I have always been huge on holding hands,” says Amanda Goecke, a junior at Carthage College, “If we're walking somewhere unfamiliar he'll hold out his hand to me for protection and to keep me close. If we're just hanging out with each other, holding hands is a great way for us to show intimacy and indicate that we want attention.” There’s even science behind the power of holding hands. Oxytocin, also known as “the love hormone,” makes us feel happy and loved and is released when people hold hands. So next time you’re on a date or walking to class with your partner, take their hand. We’re almost 100 percent sure you’ll both smile.

2. Have deep conversations

A relationship that consists of shallow, meaningless conversations isn’t a healthy one. You should always be challenging your partner to grow intellectually, and they should be doing the same. Communication is key to this kind of growth. Discussing the things that you’re passionate about can help you discover things you didn’t know you had in common with your partner. “My boyfriend and I talk about our future together at random times,” says Kayleen Parra-Padron, a senior at Florida International University, “We'll just look at each other and list all the things we're excited for in the future; we talk about moving out and decorating our future appointment, the names of our future dogs and what after school activities our kids will be doing.” Need help thinking of good conversation starters? Psychologist Arthur Aron, along with a few partners, composed a study to see how becoming vulnerable with your SO can lead to a closer relationship. They came up with 36 questions to ask your partner, including “For what in your life do you feel most grateful?” and “What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about?” Try asking a few of these questions next time you get tired of talking about your classes.

3. Touch each other non-sexually

The power of touch is amazing. It’s instinctual for humans to touch each other as a sign of protection and love. Hugging and massaging are underrated ways to show intimacy. Often we think of these things as touches that could possibly lead up to sex or at least a steamy make-out session. But even spending a few extra seconds hugging your SO can make you feel more connected. Giving your partner a back massage or touching their hair shows that you care and will create chemistry between the two of you.

4. Try doing each other’s favorite activities

Chances are, while you and your partner have similar interests, there are probably a few things you don’t have in common. Take a day and indulge in some activities that your SO is passionate about and then have them do the same. This way, you can both understand each other’s passions, enjoy spending the time together and make lasting memories. Bonding through shared experiences is a powerful form of intimacy.

5. Get spiritual

If you and your SO share a faith, use that to your advantage. Going to each other’s religious services together and reflecting on what you learned can build intellectual intimacy. Taking a few moments out of your day to pray for/think of your partner and their goals, struggles and triumphs will also strengthen your relationship, even if your SO doesn’t know about it. “My fiance and I believe it's important to talk about our faith and do devotions together,” says Rebecca Reis, a sophomore at Temple University. “That makes us grow so close as a couple, and it becomes the framework for our entire relationship.” If you don’t share a faith or don’t identify with a specific one, try exploring different options together. It can tell you a lot about your partner’s values and how you two can fit together spiritually. However, ultimately the goal of faith is for it to be a personal connection. So while you may be sharing spiritual experiences with your partner, it’s important that you have a personal connection to your faith and you don’t believe in it just because your partner does.

6. Communicate “Dear John” style

Writing letters will never lose its charm or its sentimentality. Seeing the scrawl of your loved one automatically brings about the butterflies you get when you’re watching “The Notebook” or “Dear John” (dang you, Nicholas Sparks), and there’s just something about having written proof that someone is, in fact, in love with you. Writing out your thoughts can make it so much more meaningful, because your partner will be able to see that you poured your heart out onto the page. This is especially important if you’re in a long-distance relationship. Phone calls and FaceTimes are nice, but a handwritten letter once in a while will show your SO just how much you love them. “My boyfriend are in a long distance relationship, and we write letters so we can give them to each other when we finally reconnect in person,” says Alexis Rogers, a sophomore at Temple University. “Being able to write letters to express my feelings is so special. We both treasure each other's letters, equally and if not more than other gifts we have given each other. Not only are they special to read in the presence of each other, but they help keep us connected when we are away from each other.” And how cute will it be when you read them all over to your kids when you’re married?

7. Gaze longingly into each other’s eyes

No…really. We all know how awkward eye contact can be, even with our SOs sometimes. But it shouldn’t be! Try dropping the distractions and staring into each other’s eyes for four minutes, then talk about what you thought. It seems like a long time, but it actually goes by quickly. “I did this with my boyfriend and we were both skeptical at first,” says Sarah Johnstone, a freshman at Montgomery County Community College. “It was sort of awkward in the beginning, but then it got serious and we actually felt much more connected as a couple afterwards. Everyone should try it.” Even the smallest things, like eye contact, are actually super important and can take the intimacy in your relationship to the next level.

While sex plays a large role in many college women’s relationships, it doesn’t have to take precedence over every other aspect. Physical and emotional intimacy affect relationships deeply, and it’s important to build those connections through avenues besides sex. Even the little touches and words of encouragement to your partner can strengthen your relationship and create intimate moments.

7 Things to Do After Accepting a College

It’s finally over. After weeks of debating with your parents and constantly listing pros and cons of colleges in your head, you’ve finally made a decision. It’s not easy to choose where you’ll be spending the next four years of your life, so give yourself a pat on the back – you deserve it. While it may seem far away right now, the next few months are going to fly by. If you’re wondering what to do in the meantime, read on. We’ve talked with collegiettes and experts around the country to list your next steps after accepting a college.

1. Don’t brood over ‘what if’ colleges

After you’ve carefully made a decision and sent in your acceptance letter, don’t let your mind wander to that timeless question, “what if?” You’ve chosen the school that best fits your life goals. If you know you’ve chosen wisely, stop yourself from worrying. It won’t help you any.

Dr. Bari Norman, certified educational planner and co-founder of Expert Admissions, reminds you to keep your focus. “It's important to know when to move on, and this is one of those times,” she says. “It may not be easy, but you want to start focusing on where you'll actually be going to college so you can make the most of it and give it a fair shot.  You had whatever school you're attending on your list for certain reasons – remember those reasons, and start focusing on the good.”

Oftentimes, we have to go against family or friends when choosing what’s best for our lives. If your parents or friends aren’t too supportive about where you decided to study, don’t let that get to you. This is the start of your life and learning to choose for yourself is important!

2. Figure out your living arrangements

When you send in your acceptance letter to your college, you’ll most likely receive an e-mail from the department that handles orientation. They will give you information about signing up for orientation, choosing your dorm and meal plan, and even picking your classes. Pay attention to the deadlines and write them down so you’re prepared for the months leading up to your first day of school. If you’re unclear about anything, don’t be afraid to shoot an e-mail back and clear your doubts – it’s proactive and they’ll be happy to help.

Choose a dorm and meal plan that fits best with both your financial and academic needs. If you’re going to school close to home, you might be able to commute and save money. If you’re going to school far away, you’ll probably need to invest in a dorm and meal plan.

Iesha, a sophomore at the University of Florida, gives you tips on finding a place to live. “Start doing research on all the specifics for living accommodations,” she says. “You may want to live on campus your first year, which is both convenient for getting to classes and ‘forces’ you to see other people frequently and make friends. However, don’t be afraid of looking into off campus options your first year – I found out I could live off campus at a cheaper rate than a dorm and I personally like having my own bed and bathroom. I learned to be independent even more quickly when I got an apartment, but choose the option that is best suited for your needs.”

You might even be thinking about bringing your car to school. The best way to find out information on the specifics of such living arrangements at your school is to check online and connect with current students. Your school will most likely have a FAQs page for new students – check that out and talk to people who already live on campus if you can.

3. Check if you have required summer reading

Colleges sometimes have required summer reading for incoming freshman. In my case, they actually sent the book by mail and emphasized that we’d be assessed on the novel within our first semester. Not all colleges will do that, but definitely make sure you know whether you have a book to read – you don’t want to completely miss it. It will most likely be mentioned in the welcome e-mail from your college, but if not, check on the website to be absolutely sure.

If you’re enrolling in an English course your first semester, teachers will often have books they’d like you to read over the summer. Send an e-mail to the teacher and see if you have any reading. Even if you don’t, your proactive attitude will stand out and they’ll most likely remember you by name when you’re finally in their class.

4. Apply for scholarships

College is a huge financial burden. Whether you, your parents, student loans, or a combination of the three will be covering your tuition, it’s definitely a difficult burden to carry. During your last summer before college, you’ll most likely have a good deal of free time. Take a few hours every week to apply for scholarships. It’s really easy – you’ll probably just need to fill out some information and write a quick essay. Since you’ve already written a ton during application season, you only need to tweak a few things here and there and send it off.

Not sure where to find scholarships? It’s a lot easier than you’d think. First of all, you can simply look online. There are tons of scholarships you can find with just a simple Google search. If you want to look for local opportunities, ask guidance counselors at your high school and check with institutions around your hometown. The key is to look for scholarships with both a small applicant pool and small reward. You’ll have a much better chance of getting a $100 scholarship from a local society than a $3,000 scholarship from a big chain. Don’t let the small amount of a scholarship dissuade you from applying – the numbers can add up.

5. Connect with other incoming freshmen

A great way to calm your pre-college nerves is to connect with other new students. That way, you already have a few ‘friends’ even before you set foot on campus. Look for a “New Student” or “Class of [Insert Graduation Year]” Facebook page for your college – most schools have one to help freshmen foster a sense of community. Join and be active on the page. You might just meet some great friends. And if you really connect with someone, you could even ask that person if he or she’d like to room together. It’s great to choose your roommates so you can have a better idea of who you’ll be living with.

Iesha notes that finding roommates before you get on campus can enhance your college experience, and that you shouldn’t be afraid to choose people that you wouldn’t normally become friends with. She says, “I recommend finding roommates ahead of time, unless you want to get paired with someone randomly, which can also be exciting! I chose roommates I thought I’d click with the best and even some outside of my normal circle and it turned out splendidly – we’re all super close now!”

Dr. Norman adds that orientation can be another great way to meet both freshmen and upperclassmen. “Many schools also have orientations for first-year students in the months and days before school starts. These events will be great ways to meet other incoming students and also upperclassmen who will volunteer as part of these programs,” she says. “Upperclassmen are great resources, and it’s always nice to know someone older on campus who you can reach out to, if needed.”

If you know people from your high school will be attending your college in the fall, definitely reach out to them. You may never have spoken to them before, but they’ll be glad to know they’re not alone. Who knows, you might become good friends!

6. Shop and pack for your dorm

Make sure you have a plan when you go shopping for dorm supplies. Write down a quick list of the essentials you’ll need for setting up your room. You don’t want to arrive your first day and forget something important (and then have to fight the crowd of incoming freshmen at the nearest superstore). If you’re moving far away and have to travel by plane, keep in mind that you’ll most likely need to buy the majority of your supplies at your college.

Your school will probably provide you with a packing list, but if not, feel free to check out our ultimate collegiette packing list. It’s got everything you need – and more.

7. Relax

Finally, and most importantly, let yourself relax. You’ve made it – you’ve braced yourself through hectic college application season and you’re finally at the pearly white gates of college. From here on out, you’ll have more freedom in your life and the opportunities are endless. Let yourself cool off and enjoy your last few weeks of high school. Give yourself a break – college will be stressful enough.

Dr. Norman reminds you that it’s okay to do nothing. “This might not be the advice you’re expecting to hear from a college advisor, but I think it’s a great time to do nothing, however you define that,” she says. “Most students have been working really hard leading up to college, and they’ll be working hard again once they get there, preparing for the next phase after college. This is the one summer where you’re sort of in between things, and I think students should take advantage of it, if they can.”

Maybe take up a new hobby this summer: playing an instrument, yoga, painting. This time is for you, and you deserve it. Good luck, future collegiette! You can achieve anything and everything if you put your mind to it. Be excited about your college experience and keep dreaming.

17 Questions Every Girl Has About Sex At One Point or Another

It doesn’t matter if you’re a virgin or more experienced in the sheets—everyone has questions about doing the deed. While you’ll never be able to reenact the kind of steamy hookup scenes you see on Gossip Girl or Riverdale, you’ve probably had a few of these thoughts, and more, about getting down and dirty.

1. What’s with the positions having such weird names?

Reverse Cowgirl should be a restaurant that sells healthy cheese fries, not something you do to another human.

2. How do people manage to do it while standing up?

You’d rather be naughty in bed…where you can conveniently fall asleep right after.

3. Is shower sex really as hot as people make it look on TV?

You can barely shower alone without slipping.

4. Is it normal to prefer staying in and masturbating, instead of going out and socializing?

Of course it is. Sexing yourself saves money and doesn’t require you to put on pants. It’s a win-win.

5. Why do people make sex on the first date such a big deal?

If you can share your platter of shrimp tacos, you can share a night in together NBD.

6. How do you muster up the energy and willpower to 69?

The only way you can multi-task is by eating, tweeting and watching The Bachelor simultaneously.

7. Why is anal even a thing?

Who decided that it’d be a fun idea to enter the back door that releases all the crap you eat on a daily basis?

8. What are you supposed to do during oral?

Giggle? Squirm? Spread your legs like a starfish?

9. Who decided it was sexy to bite and twist nipples?

Nothing against BDSM, but that is 50 shades of way too painful.

10. If the bed doesn’t squeak, does that mean you aren’t thrusting hard enough?

You’re not in good enough shape for this!

11. Should you alternate between kissing and humping, or do it at the same time?

This will get super sweaty instead of super sexy, real fast.

12. What’s the normal volume for moaning?

Last time you screamed so loud, your roommates thought you were waxing your bikini line.

13. How are you supposed to easily transition into new positions?

If you move too fast, you might end up farting or something.

14. Are you supposed to clean yourself afterwards?

You have boxes of tissues reserved to crying, and…well, you know.

15. Is it normal to fantasize about sex during the most random, inappropriate times?

Getting milk at the grocery store turns into imagining a rendezvous on top of a stack of Bounty towels.

16. How do you manage a threesome?

You can't even be bothered to share your food with people, much less your SO with someone else.

17. What’s with the obsession over sexy lingerie, if you’re just going to end up naked?

It’s getting hot in here! So keep off all your clothes!
