On Monday, HBO was reportedly hit with a cyber attack - and some Game of Thrones episodes may be among the materials that were leaked by the hackers.
According to Entertainment Weekly, hackers got ahold of 1.5 terabytes of data, and thus far, have leaked future episodes of the network's shows Ballers and Room 104 online. A script from the fourth episode of Game of Thrones was also reportedly leaked, with the hackers saying that more is "coming soon." Yikes.
On Sunday night, multiple entertainment reporters received an anonymous email saying, "Hi to all mankind. The greatest leak of cyber space era is happening. What’s its name? Oh I forget to tell. Its HBO and Game of Thrones……!!!!!! You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it & spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. HBO is falling."
While HBO has not yet confirmed exactly what was stolen, the network told EW in a statement, "HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information,” the network confirmed in a statement. “We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold.”
HBO joins Netflix as yet another major TV company that has had future episodes and content leaked online - back in April, multiple episodes from Orange is the New Black were leaked online over a month before the season was supposed to air.
Hopefully HBO gets things sorted out before any more information is leaked. I mean, I know we're all dying for it to be Sunday night, a.k.a. Game of Thrones night, but I don't want to get my hands on the rest of the season's episodes that badly.
