Zayn Malik Reveals All the Things He Wasn't Allowed to Do in One Direction

If you're in a wildly successful boy band, you’re far from normal. Keeping up appearances and maintaining a good guy image, all while trying to produce chart-topping singles, can be stressful, to say the least. We assume there comes a time when you have to take a step back and wonder if this is really something worth pursuing for the rest of your life. That's what happened to former One Direction member, Zayn Malik. It seems the high-pressure 1D life drove Zayn a little bit crazy, especially when it came to the things he was not allowed to do.

“There were certain restrictions in terms of the way that we could come outside that young teen boy look.”

Well, we kind of get that, but did you know that Zayn wasn't even allowed to grow a beard at one point? “That was just because I looked older than the rest of them. That’s one of the things that is now quite cool. I get to keep my beard. I also wanted to dye my hair when I was in the band, but I wasn’t allowed to.”

Now that the English singer-songwriter is no longer tied down by anyone or anything, he's happy just being Zayn: “With the music that I’m doing now, I get to express myself, and that creative tension is gone.”

Since his split from One Direction in 2015, Zayn has been releasing more intimate music, while adopting a sultry sound that seems to have fans swooning at his every move. If this new Zayn means more shirtless music videos, then sign us up!

Ashley Benson May Not Be Returning to 'Pretty Little Liars' Next Season

After last week’s Pretty Little Liars finale, which had more stunning revelations and unanswered questions than we can count, we are impatiently waiting for the arrival of the show's seventh season. In the last 30 seconds of the finale, we saw a quick glimpse of Hanna Marin’s (maybe?) dead body being dragged across the floor of the church where Charlotte was murdered. So, was this the series' way of telling fans that Hanna will not be returning to Rosewood next season?

There's no way any of this can be true, right? We’ve come to love Ashley Benson’s character in these past six years and eliminating Hanna could very well ruin the show.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Benson nonchalantly dished that it’s not totally out of the question for one of the Liars to be killed off. Even Marlene King—the show’s ingenious creator—hinted that Benson might not be returning. “You may not see me next season guys," Benson added, jokingly (we think). This is not exactly what we want to be hearing right now.

If one of the most beloved PLLs leaves the series, then we basically have no reason to live. We've been fooled by this show before, though. Could Benson and King be toying with our emotions yet again? Sadly, all we can do is wait for the show to return and pray that we see Hanna Marin alive and well in season seven.

13 Study Abroad Students Dead in Spain Bus Crash

A bus traveling carrying several European study abroad students from the popular program Erasmus was in a severe accident on Sunday. There were 13 fatalities, seven of which were Italian students. Thirty-four more students were injured.

The students were studying at the University of Barcelona for the semester and were on a program trip when the accident occurred at 6 a.m., when the bus crossed the median and collided with an oncoming car.

The most alarming thing about the crash is the idea that it might have been preventable.

Alessandro Saracino, mother of victim Serena Saracino, 22, questioned why the bus was traveling so early in the morning. “What I ask is that these things never happen again,” Saracino told the Guardian. “In a beautiful country like this, these kids should have been guaranteed a trip in complete safety. Driving at four in the morning, through the rain, is not safe.”

However, NBC News reports that the road conditions were good at the time, and that authorities believe the crash was due to human error.

Tallulah Lyons, a British student from Southhampton University was injured in the crash. She explained the chaos at the scene to the Guardian.

“I remember waking up with people screaming. At that point I think we got hit by another car, but I’m not sure, I don’t remember a lot. It took two hours to get everyone out of the bus. It was people who were trapped who died.”

The accident is a terrible tragedy, and hits particularly close to home for those of us studying abroad. Our thoughts are with the families of these students.

A Topless Woman Interrupted Bernie Sanders’ Rally... To Protest Donald Trump

This past weekend, Bernie Sanders and his supporters in Phoenix, Ariz. were given a surprise when a woman in the crowd interrupted the rally by climbing onto another person's shoulders and removing her shirt to reveal statements written on her front and back. She had "Stop Facism" and "Hate Speech is not Free Speech" scribbled across her bare skin, as well as stickers for the Free the Nipple movement on her...you can take a wild guess at where, exactly.

The catch is, however, this woman, who goes by Anni Ma, says that her act was actually in protest of Donald Trump. You must be wondering why she then ended up at a Bernie Sanders rally. According to The Washington Post, Ma had attempted to get into Trump's rally, but, due to other protesters blocking off the highway leading to the location of the event, she was unable to.

So, the next best way to get on camera was for her to go to a Bernie Sanders rally, apparently—Though that's kind of preaching to the choir. Sanders did notice her wild scene, right before security brought her to the back of the facility. The young woman has made it clear that she does support Sanders, despite disrupting his event.

Was it appropriate for Anni Ma to follow through with her act of protest against Trump at a rally that wasn't his? Let us know what you think.

Starbucks is Being Sued for Underfilling Lattes

Starbucks is known for selling the coffee that everyone either loves to drink or loves to scoff at. However, it looks like many Starbucks lovers might be switching to the other side (Independent coffee shops? Home espresso maker?) after news surfaced that the company has its baristas underfilling our favorite drinks.

According to Eater, Siera Strumlauf and Benjamin Robles filed the lawsuit after it became known that the line to which baristas are instructed to fill their pitchers with steamed milk results in individual lattes being underfilled—specifically, by 25 percent.

While Starbucks claims that the recipe for their lattes is made with this in mind, Refinery 29 points out, "The plaintiffs believe that if you order a 16-ounce drink, you should get 16 ounces of liquid," which seems pretty logical.

Be sure to search through your receipts, collegiettes, because, if this class-action lawsuit gets far enough, Starbucks could owe all latte-buyers for the steamed milk they skimped on.

What to Do if You Don’t Have Any Job References

$

So, it's finally happening. Graduation is right around the corner, your resume looks great, and you're all set to start applying for jobs until you realize with dawning horror that you can't think of a single person to provide as a reference, much less three.

First thing you should do? Stay calm.

All hope is not lost—we promise. Finding yourself without substantial references as you near graduation is not as uncommon as you may think. There are a number of reasons students may find themselves in this situation. If you're introverted by nature, then there's a chance you simply haven't been making a point of forming relationships with those you work with. Maybe you just never really got around to that whole “getting involved” thing, or you got caught up in schoolwork… and not much else. Whatever the reason may be, what matters now is how you solve the problem. It's definitely not too late to make some progress! Read on for tips that are sure to take you from panic attack to boss mode.

1. Know what you're looking for

You've got to know what you're looking for if you're going to find it, right? For this reason, it's important to know what type of references you need and why. Teresa Balestreri, director of career services at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, advises students in this situation to look for people who can comment on their “soft skills”—things like adaptability, reliability, and communication skills. If employers are reaching out to your references, then likely they're already interested in you as a candidate and would like to make sure that you'll be a good fit. (Just a heads up: Using relatives as a reference is always a big no-no!)

Lesley Mitler, president of Priority Candidates, Inc., advises students who feel as if they don't have enough references to reconsider professors they've studied with, faculty advisors for clubs they belonged to, leadership from summer programs they attended, coworkers from community service-based projects, and coaches from any competitive college sports.

According to Balestreri, many students don't realize that professors may be some of the best candidates for speaking on your soft skills. In a classroom setting, students are honing the soft skills they need to succeed in the workplace. Your professors have witnessed your behavior when working on a group project, your dedication to deadlines, and your punctuality when it comes to class meetings, so don't count them out.

2. Approach and reconnect

No one likes to be ambushed by a stranger spouting demands. If there's a professor whose class you did well in, perhaps consider paying him or her a visit during his or her office hours for a quick chat. If you opt to use email, give them something to work with—don't make them struggle to remember who you are by using vague phrases like “I took your class a long time ago.” Be specific! It may even help to bring up specific papers you wrote, if you feel it might jog their memory. Try following your introduction with this: "As I approach graduation, I'm hoping to enter the job market and would like to know if you'd be comfortable with me listing you as a reference. I would be happy to provide my resume and keep you informed about any jobs I apply for. I’d love to meet up and chat!"

Above all else, don't be shy. You never know until you ask! However, tact is the name of the game here. If they really don't remember you, don't push it. If a week or two goes by without a response, you can try a respectfully worded follow-up message (preface any follow-up messages by acknowledging that you know he or she is busy. Showing respect for his or her time goes a long way toward making a good impression). If things still don't pan out after that, don't take it personally; there are a million possible reasons why they may not have time to respond, so use this as an opportunity to develop a thick skin as you continue your search elsewhere.

3. Make new connections

Ok, so you've reevaluated your potential options and you're still coming up empty. If you've covered all of your bases and there's still no one who can vouch for you, that doesn't mean you should panic! It's just time to put yourself back out there. Luckily for you, it's never too late to get involved. You can start simple by really giving your all in your classes so that your current professors can't help but take notice. Volunteer opportunities can also do wonders for building your network, and such positions tend to come with the expectation of flexibility, so you'll be able to continue on your path toward graduation while still building up experience that will help you enter the job market.

4. Explore unconventional sources

Unconventional references, such as coworkers and fellow students, are okay as long as they're able to speak objectively on your skillset (high school connections should be avoided). Balestreri advises choosing peers who are able to comment on your leadership experience. For instance, choose a sorority sister who has sat on a committee with you, rather than someone who's just a friend.

Chances are, your college has an alumni network that you can utilize to meet people who are already doing what you'd like to do one day. Similarly, LinkedIn is useful for this purpose as well, as are leadership programs and networking events hosted by your university. Your best reference may be someone you haven't even met yet.

When reaching out to strangers, always mention how you came across their information, what you have in common, and your intentions ("I'm hoping to enter the field of graphic design.") In your initial message, politely ask if they'd be open to meeting with you as you gather information about the industry you hope to enter. Give them about a week or so to respond before considering a follow-up email.

"You never want to ask someone to be a reference before they really know who you are," Balestreri warns, so don't even broach the topic before you've met, talked in person, and connected well. Anyone you list as a reference has to be able to articulate to an employer in detail why you'd be a good fit for a particular position. If you find that the two of you have made a connection during your coffee date, then consider bringing up the topic with them, either near the end of the visit or by follow-up email.

If you've found yourself about to graduate with no references at all, it may be a sign that you need to focus on gaining more experience before diving into the job market. Think of your situation as a time to grow. If you start your class or service project ready and willing to learn and put yourself out there, you'll find your situation changing for the better in no time.

At Least 30 Killed in Brussels Terrorist Attacks

At least 30 people were killed in terrorist bombings in the airport and subway of Belgium’s capital, Brussels. The New York Times reports that ISIS has taken responsibility for the attacks.

Two bombs went off at  Zaventem Airport, killing at least 10, but a third attack followed at the Maelbeek metro station, killing around 20 people. Over 200 more were wounded.

Not everyone was surprised. “I think, after the Paris attacks, we were assuming something like this would happen," Richard Medic, who arrived the metro station after the attacks, told CNN. "And it was a matter of time.”

The Times reports that Belgium was at a high risk for several reasons, including poor security services. Last Friday, Salah Abdeslam, the last remaining uncaptured perpetrator of the Paris attacks, was captured in Brussels.

That doesn’t make the attacks any less painful. "We were fearing terrorist attacks, and that has now happened," Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel said, according to CNN.

The BBC reports that police have released security footage of three men are thought to be the suspects, pictured above. Since the attacks, all flights and trains into and out of Belgium have been canceled, and security has been tightened throughout Europe.

Tonight, the Eiffel Tower will be lit with the colors of Belgium’s flag: black, red and yellow.

Kesha Continues to Fight Back Against Sony & Dr. Luke

For months, we've all been following the lawsuit involving Kesha, Dr. Luke, and Sony. After Kesha stated that Dr. Luke sexually abused her, he fought back, denying the allegation. In February, the court rules that the pop singer must stick to her contract with Sony, sparking protest among fans and celebrities alike. Now, Kesha has reportedly filed an appeal to New York's Supreme Court. Amidst this debate, Kesha's lawyer Mark Geragos has also come out with statements supporting the musician, as we'd expect. But most recently, he was quoted making a comparison between Kesha's situation and... slavery.

In a recent statement, Geragos said, "Although it recognized that 'slavery was done away with a long time ago' and that '[y]ou can't can't force someone to work ... in a situation in which they don't want to work,' the Court's ruling requiring Kesha to work for Gottwald's companies, purportedly without his involvement, does just that." In case that sweeping comment wasn't controversial enough, Geragos made his point even clearer. "As the Court itself recognized, '[i]t's slavery. You can't do that.'" While we can all agree that Kesha's in a predicament we wouldn't wish on anybody, can we really equate Kesha's legally binding contract to slavery?

In response to Geragos' remarks, Dr. Luke's lawyer responded with a statement of her own. According to Christine Lepera, Kesha's continued attempts at justice are counterproductive since she doesn't have the hard facts to solidify her side of the story. "The Court repeatedly stated Kesha was already free to record without Dr. Luke, and that she had not presented any facts supporting her claims. That's because all the evidence—including Kesha's own sworn testimony—show her allegations are false. Her attorneys can continue manufacturing even more false and outrageous claims, but the fact remains that her time would be better spent in a studio than wasting time having her lawyer and mother spin lies in the media," Lepara said.

Chipotle Will Give You Free Chips and Guac If You Play This Game

After the E. Coli catastrophe, Chipotle has been giving out free burritos like candy. Now, they’re offering free chips and guacamole—but only if you play Guac Hunter.

According to Eater, Chipotle is teaming up with Avocados From Mexico to launch a game called Guac Hunter. The game requires players spot differences between two similar pictures in an allotted amount of time. If you win, the prize is…GUAC.

“For many of our customers, guacamole is one of their favorite menu items, and a meal at Chipotle isn’t complete without it,” Chipotle’s chief creative and development officer, Mark Crumpacker, told Fast Casual. “This game allows our customers to enjoy some chips and guac on us, and perhaps encourage others to give guac a try and see what they’ve been missing.”

This is an addition to the millions of offers for free burritos and entrees that Chipotle has given away already, according to the The Chicago Tribune. A series of E. Coli and Norovirus outbreaks last year resulted in a huge loss of sales for the restaurant chain, so free guac is just one of the many ways Chipotle is working to woo back customers.

The game is only available through March 31, so go play it now here. Coupons can be redeemed through April 10—Get your guac on!

Apple Announces New iPhone & iPad, Stays Strong on Encryption

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook took to the stage Monday to announce the company’s new and more affordable products for the Spring. However, unlike most of Apple’s product showcases, the main topic was encryption—more specifically, Apple’s ongoing fight with the government over iPhone encryption.

The government put a pause on trying to force Apple's hand on Monday, after they announced that they think they have a way to break into the San Bernardino iPhone. If this hack works, the fight will be over between Apple and the government. If not, the FBI could resume its case in April.

If the fight continues, Tim Cook promised that the company would not give in, according to the The New York Times. During a press conference at Apple headquarters, he said, “We need to decide as a nation how much power the government should have over our data and over our privacy…we will not shrink from this responsibility.”

Privacy advocates could rejoice, while Apple junkies settled in for the introduction of something almost as important: new iPhones and iPads!!

Apple’s new iPhone SE and 9.7 inch iPad Pro took center stage finally at the event. According to Fortune magazine, the rumored iPhone SE came mostly as expected—It is the same size as the iPhone 5S. Last year, Wired reported that Apple sold more than 30 million four-inch iPhones, so making a move back to small makes sense. However, the SE comes with some important updates from the iPhone 6S, including a faster A9 processor, Apple pay abilities and a higher resolution camera, according to Fortune. PLUS it’s way cheaper than the iPhone 6S, with a starting price of $399 (I only have $5 to my name, but hey, who doesn’t love something that’s a bargain?).

According to the Times, the new iPad Pro came at a lower price that its predecessor, too, starting at $599, while still keeping many of the features as the bigger iPad Pro, which was $799.

While encryption may have taken the cake for the most important issue of the day, Apple’s awesome new price points are sure to catch people’s eyes.

Further Proof That Kanye is the Biggest Belieber of All Time

Beliebers, get in line—because this artist is claiming to be Justin Bieber's biggest fan and he's got proof. Since Kim Kardashian made a Snapchat, she's been posting videos that give further insight into her lavish life. In her recent snaps, Kim posted a video of Kanye dancing along to Justin Bieber as he performed "What Do You Mean?" at the Los Angeles stop on his Purpose tour.

The video shows Kanye basically losing his chill—and considering that Kanye recently tweeted that the Bieb's hit song is his favorite of all time, we're not really surprised that Kanye let his inner fangirl out at the concert. Admit it, you probably reacted in a similar manner when you first heard "What Do You Mean?" So, can we expect another collaboration between Kanye and Justin? It's been five years since the two artists worked on music together, so a collab is WAY overdue. Pls get started on a song ASAP, Kanye and Justin. K thanks.

George Mason Students Arrested With Bomb-Making Materials in Dorm

Three unidentified students from George Mason University were arrested by the campus police after bomb-making materials were found in their dorm, according to the Associated Press. The police responded to flames coming out of the window last Wednesday night, but court documents on the incident were just unsealed on Monday. Matchbooks, a "leafy green substance," mortar and pestle, shaved match heads, lighter fluid, a PVC pipe and hand sanitizer candles were all found in the dorm, the AP reports.

Two of the students were arrested for drug and alcohol related charges, and the other for the possession of bomb-making materials.

We'd like to give these students the benefit of the doubt and think this was just some kind of project for Chemistry class, but when these materials are combined, investigators say that they can make some pretty heavy-duty explosives.

GMU Interim Police Chief Thomas Longo told USA Today College in a statement that "there is no immediate threat to the campus community and the investigation is ongoing."

Our society is in a period of tension; terrorism seems to be on the rise, and our government is always on the lookout for potential extremists in the United States. Police and investigators are taking every potential threat seriously. We can only hope that these students weren't planning an attack.

Presidential Candidates Respond to Brussels Terrorist Attacks

The world took a moment to pause early Tuesday morning when reports of two bomb blasts in a crowded Brussels airport began flooding the airwaves and social media. People all over the world struggled to grasp the senseless violence after an estimated 31 people were killed and another 200 plus victims were wounded in the explosions which rocked the airport and a local subway station.

After the initial shock wore off and Americans began receiving a more complete picture of the attacks, it didn't take long for presidential hopefuls to weigh in on the Belgium tragedy.

Trump also said on the Today Show that tortures such as waterboarding were a necessary tactic to extract information from suspects, and also said that U.S. borders needed to be secure (even going so far as to suggest temporarily closing U.S. borders in an interview with Fox and Friends).

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas posted this lengthy response to the attacks to his supporters on Facebook and Twitter:

Our hearts break for the men and women of Brussels this morning. Make no mistake -- these terror attacks are no isolated...

Posted by Ted Cruz on Tuesday, March 22, 2016

He also said on Fox News that ISIS had in effect declared war on Europe and the U.S. with their attacks, and also said in a statement that he would support strengthening the southern U.S. border and increased monitoring of Muslim neighborhoods to watch for radicalization.

Governor John Kasich of Ohio didn't go so far, instead calling for President Obama to return home immediately, and also suggested that the U.S. "strengthen our alliances" to stop extremists.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton shut down Trump's outlandish plan to close all U.S. borders on the Today Show, calling the idea "unrealistic."

Bernie Sanders also issued a emotionally charged statement about the attacks, using adjectives like "cowardly" and "barbaric" to describe the terrorist attack.

Of course, the man currently holding that highly sought after office also had a few things to say about the attacks. In an address to the Cuban people during his trip to Havana, President Obama called on world powers to unite in response to this terrible loss, saying that the U.S. "will do whatever is necessary to support our friend and ally Belgium in bringing to justice those who are responsible."

How Binge Watching Netflix Really Impacts Your Body

$

0

It’s Friday night, and there's no way that you're going out. So what do you do? Netflix. Netflix, eat pizza, ice cream and everything else you can find. Before you know it, it’s 2 A.M. and you've just spent six hours watching a screen without moving once. Have you ever wondered how that could impact you? Whether it’s your eyes, brain, butt, or mental health, binge watching Netflix or any other outlet for hours on end can really hurt you. Binge watching TV can range from four episodes in a row to 10, and even more. There are so many negative effects of doing this, you may want to think twice before turning on the TV and putting on your sweats. Here are several of the ways it impacts your body:

1. You may be slowing down your metabolism

According to NPR, epidemiologist Steven Blair spent 40 years investigating physical activity and health in relation to sitting and watching TV. “If you're sitting, your muscles are not contracting, perhaps except to type," Blair says. "But the big muscles, like in your legs and back, are sitting there pretty quietly." And because the major muscles aren't moving, your metabolism slows down. When you have a slower metabolism, this means that you are digesting your food at a slower rate than people with a faster metabolism. This can lead to weight gain and many other health problems associated with your digestive system.

2. Your eyes are strained

According to Dr. Rebecca M. Sappington, Ph.D, Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt School of Opthamology and Visual Sciences, watching Netflix or TV for an extended period of time can cause eye muscle fatigue and, "therefore, reduced ability to accommodate (change focus)." Itt can also lead to headaches which can cause discomfort. Another side effect is that you blink less when staring at a screen, so eyes can become dry -- leading to redness and a "scratchy" feeling. Dr. David Calkins, Ph.D, Director of Vanderbilt Vision Research Center, says that while binge watching may cause discomfort or eye strain for adults, for children, it’s more of what they are not doing while binge watching that might be more harmful. Dr. Calkins says, "even for adolescents, proper wiring of the brain to support normal integration of the senses (vision, hearing etc) with the motor system (especially fine motor skills), requires on-task daily training." He says that the daily training usually takes place through games, play-time, or sports.

[Related: The Truth About How Much Sleep You Actually Need

3. It may be harder to fall asleep

According to Dr. Josna Adusumilli, MD, sleep specialist/doctor at Mass General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, the amount of sleep that you are losing when you are up at all hours of the night can impact your body in a negative way. For people that watch TV at night, it will be harder to fall asleep because of the blue light from electronic devices. Because certain people are night owls and are always up late, they have an internal sleep clock that let's them go to bed later and wakeup earlier. But if you are unable to fall asleep, your whole schedule is off and that will impact your energy and mood for the next day. As well people who sleep less than six hours per night (or more than nine) were significantly more likely to have heart disease or diabetes, have suffered a stroke, or be obese, even after researchers adjusted the results for other known risk factors.

4. Your mental health could be affected

According to Dr. Carole Lieberman, M.D, Media Psychiatrist & Bestselling Author, binge watching can affect your mental health in many ways - some good and some bad. If you watch comedies, it can relieve stress and boost your immune system.  But, if you binge watch depressing dramas or horror movies, they can make you depressed or anxious. People who binge watch are especially vulnerable to its impact because they may already have some problems that they are trying to escape by watching TV. For example, people who are lonely, stressed out or depressed are more easily lured by the escapism that binge watching promises. So, their underlying problems are compounded by the impact of the TV shows they watch.

Overall, it may seem like sitting on the couch and watching TV is harmless, but looking back at it, it can really hurt you. Whether it is making your muscles tense up or slowing your metabolism down, sitting and staring at a screen for long periods of time can really mess with your body. So it might be best to stop yourself before you click next episode and save yourself a trip to the doctor later down the road.

10 Struggles Only Laid Back Girls Understand

$

Whether you are one or you know one, we could all learn a thing or two from the laid back girl. Just got into a fight with your friend or significant other? Have three tests and a presentation due tomorrow? Relax. The laid back girl knows to focus on what’s important and not sweat the small stuff. As great as this carefree life seems, every laidback girl knows it doesn’t come without its fair share of problems.

1. You don’t stress as much over group projects

It’s not that you don’t care about getting a good grade; you just don’t feel the need to take control over every little aspect of the project. You have faith that as long as you and everybody else do their part before you have to present, everything will be just fine. This leads to a ton of procrastination.

2. You don’t stress as much over school work in general

You know things will work out. Or at least, you’re keeping your fingers crossed.

3. You are always the last to get ready

Whether you’re going out with friends or family, you always end up staying in your pajamas or comfy clothes until the last possible minute. By the time you look at the clock, you already know you’re pressed for time.

4. Your improv skills are next-level

You know how to get things done, last-minute style. But because of that, you rush through everything, which isn’t great in the long run.

5. Confrontation is the enemy

You try your best to stay away from any sort of confrontation due to your laid back nature. You dislike drama of any sort. But this also means you don’t always let people know when they’ve upset you, so you try to just let it go.

6. People assume you’re a pushover

Not a fun label to have. But due to your chill demeanor, people assume you okay with anything and everything and won’t stand up for yourself.

7. People with expendable amounts of energy scare you

These people freak you out because you’re the exact opposite of peppy and super hyper. You’re not used to being around this type of high-energy.

8. You are not so easily motivated

What even is motivation? It’s hard to lack something you never had in the first place. The procrastination struggle is real, my friend.

9. You have a go-with-the-flow attitude in every situation

You put in the least amount of effort necessary and when things don’t work out the way you thought they would, that gets you into trouble and you’re left feeling very confused.

10. “Netflix and Chill” really is “Netflix and Chill”

For you, there are no other possible interpretations. These words mean exactly how they’re phrased. Period.

Being a laid back girl can have it perks, but it certainly comes with its share of downfalls as well. Between, the reputation of being a pushover and always rushing to get things done, there are a fair amount of struggles associated with being the chill girl. However, being laid back is more than just a demeanor; it’s a way of life. And you wouldn’t have it any other way.

Shonda Rhimes has put us through a lot of emotional trauma since 2005. We've seen some of our favorite characters on Grey's Anatomy come and go, while other characters have stayed and evolved into people we never would've guessed they'd be. In case you haven't been watching, take a look at some the biggest ways Grey's Anatomy has changed since its original air date.

1. Meredith went from being a young intern having a secret relationship with an attending to being a widowed mother of three.

2. Alex Carev became her person when Cristina left.

3. Speaking of Cristina, she's now on the other side of the world running her own hospital.

4. Dr. Webber stepped down as chief of surgery.

5. And eventually handed Dr. Bailey the keys to the kingdom.

6. And she's now married to Dr. Warren, the handsome anesthesiologist turned surgical resident.

7. And did we mention that Meredith has another half-sister?

8. Who's also Richard's daughter and the chief of cardio?

9. Alex is an attending pediatric surgeon.

10. And he's in a pretty serious relationship with Jo.

11. Derek Shepherd, aka McDreamy, died in season 11.

12. So Amelia, Derek's sister, is now head of neuro.

13. She's also dating Owen.

14. And lives with Meredith, Alex, and Maggie.

15. And we can't forget that Seattle Grace is now Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital

Sex: What to Expect From Your First Time

“You’re going to want to take off your clothes and touch each other. But if you do touch each other, you will get chlamydia… and die.”

There’s nothing like a little Mean Girls and an overly dramatic sex ed teacher to scare you away from sex. But while your first time may seem scary, you don’t have to worry—because we’re here to guide you through it! You’ve already learned about the risks (perhaps you’ve seen one too many STD pictures) and benefits associated with intercourse, but how’s a girl to know what to realistically expect? We spoke with several sexperts to help you better prepare—physically and mentally—for when you’re ready to take the next step.

Will it hurt?

When thinking about sex, worrying about pain is a perfectly normal concern to have! Many girls assume that losing their virginities will be painful because of what they learn about the hymen, a tissue that lines the opening of the vagina. If it tears, it’s supposed to hurt… right?

Reena Liberman, MS, a private practice sex therapist in Ann Arbor, MI, explains that intercourse may feel uncomfortable at first, but the pain shouldn’t be too overwhelming. “If it’s the first time having intercourse and the hymen is still intact, it might feel like a little pinch, but it shouldn’t be very painful,” she says. Also, before you even have intercourse, you could have broken your hymen when using tampons, during masturbation or even with strenuous exercise.

Along with tearing the hymen (aka “popping the cherry”), it’s normal to experience bleeding during and after the first time. Liberman says that light spotting is typical, but anything more than that may signal that something is wrong (or maybe it’s that time of the month!). “It’s normal to bleed… and it depends on the kind of hymen that the woman has,” she says. “There shouldn’t be too much blood. If it’s flowing, then there is something else going on.” According to Liberman, the hymen varies in size and thickness from girl to girl, and so this can dictate how much bleeding, if any, you will experience.

Yes, sex might feel uncomfortable at first, but the idea that penetration is supposed to hurt is a myth! Much of the pain that we associate with intercourse comes if the woman’s body is overly tense from nerves. “Often because it is a nervous or anxious moment, it can [be] hard for the woman to self-lubricate, and that’s what can make intercourse more uncomfortable or even painful,” Liberman says. “Along with this, the muscles can tense up and add to the discomfort.”

To help ease the pain, Susan Ernst, a physician at the University Health Service Women's Health Clinic at the University of Michigan, says that young women should look into using water-based lubricants. Caution: stay away from oil-based lubricants because these degrade latex condoms faster, making it easier for them to break during intercourse. Liquid Silk ($17.99 at CVS) and K-Y Liquid Personal Lubricant ($11.99 at CVS) are great options to try.

If intercourse is painful or uncomfortable, Taylor*, a senior at the University of Michigan, says that you should speak up to your partner. “My first time, I did not feel comfortable telling the guy that I was with how it was feeling,” she says. “My best advice is to try out different positions, do whatever feels comfortable; if it hurts, switch it up and communicate [with your partner].”

Should I tell him that I’m a virgin?

If you’re not sure if you should tell your partner that you’re a virgin, guess what? Many collegiettes go through the same thing! If you’re worried about disclosing your virginity, you can always make it clear to your partner that you’re inexperienced instead.

“Instead of saying I was a virgin, I told my first partner that I was inexperienced and was feeling nervous,” Kayla*, a senior at Michigan State University, says. “I wasn’t lying; I really was inexperienced! But this way, your partner knows how you’re feeling and you don’t have to explain your virginity if you don’t want to.”

If you want to tell your partner you’re a virgin, it’s best to clear the air in the beginning. Who knows… maybe he’s a virgin as well! And if he has a problem with you being a virgin, then he’s not worth losing it to.

Should there be foreplay?

Foreplay is anything that leads up to intercourse. We’ve come to think of foreplay as an opening act before the main event—an appetizer before the entrée. However, Liberman says that thinking about the experience of foreplay as inferior to the act of intercourse is misleading. “Foreplay suggests that it’s not as important as intercourse, whereas most women can orgasm during this time,” Liberman says.

For the first time having sex, Liberman explains that it’s important to take things slow in order to make sure each partner is ready. You can use this intimate time as you please; there are no set rules to follow! “Foreplay is extremely important for women because that’s when women are most aroused,” she says. “If you jump into intercourse, the woman might not be lubricated enough to enjoy it and may not experience the full pleasure of sex.”

Sarah*, a junior at the University of Michigan, also says that foreplay is important. “What is considered foreplay by many straight couples—oral, fingering, manual stimulation, kissing and touching—is considered sex by many gay and lesbian couples,” she says. “It can be just as fun and important as vaginal sex, so don't just write it off as something that you do on the way to the main event.”

Will I have the “Big O”?

After living vicariously through The Notebook and just about every other Nicholas Sparks inspired-film, you can only dream that your first time will be as romantic and satisfying as the passionate love scenes those couples have. But when it comes to pleasure, it’s important to have realistic expectations.

Ernst says that it’s uncommon for girls to experience an orgasm during sex for the first time because they aren’t familiar with interacting with a partner. “It’s more common that women don’t [orgasm] just because they are not as aware of their own bodies and what it might take to reach that stage of excitement,” she says. “As they get more comfortable with their partner and their partner knows them and they know themselves, that becomes more common.”

Contrary to popular belief, it’s rare that you’ll reach the grand finale solely from intercourse, even with experience. “It’s generally not common for women to have orgasms with intercourse, and most don’t,” Liberman says. “Even after the 10th, 20th, or 100th time, it’s uncommon.”

According to Liberman, the reasoning behind this is that the vaginal canal isn’t the most sensitive area, and so it’s more common for women to orgasm when other areas, such as the clitoris, are stimulated. Collegiettes: this is why foreplay is important!

Amy*, a recent graduate of the University of Michigan, says that over time you will learn what feels good for your body. “I did not experience an orgasm when having sex until I had practiced at it for about three years,” she says. “While my hope for all people is that they experience great orgasms, having an orgasm is not the end-all-be-all.  Feel comfortable enough to do whatever feels good.”

What should I do about contraception?

If you’re thinking about having sex, it’s important to consider the different contraception options beforehand. “I think it’s a great idea for young women to think about contraception before they become sexually active, and even come in and have a consultation with a health care provider who can talk about all of the options,” Ernst says. “There are a million options, and there’s one that’s right for everyone.”

Whether you decide to use female or male condoms, they are a must-have for your first time (and any time after that!) Even if you’re on birth control, no love without the glove—it is the only way to protect your body against sexually transmitted diseases and infections. You can find inexpensive female condoms such as FC2 ($6.88 at Walgreens) or male condoms at any local drugstore. It’s always smart to have backup in case things get heated and he doesn’t have protection on him!

And what if your worst nightmare comes true? The condom broke. You forgot to take your birth control pill that day. Ernst wants girls to know that Plan B (emergency contraception) is now offered over-the-counter and is a viable option for collegiettes.

What if I’m feeling anxious?

You’re used to pre-test jitters and the anxiousness associated with going on a first date, but this is a whole new playing field. First things first: it’s okay to be nervous!

“It’s normal to feel anxious because [having intercourse] is probably unlike anything you’ve done before, and so like anything new, it can be scary,” Liberman says.

Rachel*, a senior at the University of Michigan, says it’s okay to be nervous, but that girls should also feel like they are ready to make the decision before they do. “Wait until you are absolutely certain that you are ready to have sex,” she says. “You should realize that sex can be scary, but can also be pleasurable, exciting and a wonderful way to connect with another person. To lessen anxiety, you should become comfortable with your body and with your partner. Knowing beforehand exactly what you would or would not be comfortable with doing is important.”

To make the experience less intimidating, Liberman says that girls should become comfortable with their own bodies before having sex. “It’s important to educate yourself about your body,” she says. “To go into sex for the first time without knowing anything about your body is doing a disservice, because you don’t know what [it] looks like and you don’t know what to expect from yourself. If you’re more familiar with yourself, including masturbation, you’re probably going to feel less anxious [and know what feels good].”

Liberman recommends that women take the time to read about the female body; there are an infinite number of online resources to look at if you have any sex-related questions, including Go Ask Alice! and Scarleteen. Along with reading, she says that it’s helpful to get to know your body more personally (when you have some alone time, if you know what we mean). Once you begin to explore your own body, you will know what to expect from yourself with a partner when that time comes. If you’re self-conscious about trying masturbation, the shower is a natural, easy place to start.

Liberman adds that there are a few checkpoints to hit before you’ll be ready to have sex. “Readiness can be indicated by: making the decision that you want to do it, getting to know yourself, feeling ready and not having too high or unrealistic expectations, so that when you’ve done it, you can say, ‘Okay, that was the first time! Now I can learn more about it and be less nervous the next time,’” she says. “If you expect it to be perfect, of course you are going to [feel] disappointment.”

You may have expectations for your first time, but keep in mind that it’s different for every collegiette! Just remember that it should be your decision and no one else’s. When you’re ready, we hope that our tips help!

Chloë Grace Moretz Turned Down an Invite to Join Taylor Swift's Squad

Well, it looks like not everyone wants to be part of Taylor Swift's girl squad. In a recent interview with Complex, actress Chloë Grace Moretz offered her opinion on the rise of the girl squad. While the actress didn't necessarily throw shade at Tay, she did imply that's not too keen on the concept. In fact, she feels so strongly that she turned down the opportunity to join Taylor's crew.

When asked if she knows Taylor (Chloë is friends with Selena Gomez), she gave a short, "Yes." And when asked if she'd been invited to join the well-known girl gang, she gave the same curt reply—without any further explanation.

This isn't the first time the 5th Wave actress dissed the idea of joining a squad. In her cover interview with Nylon, she voiced similar beliefs. While she definitely values having a group of close friends, she just doesn't understand the "squad" hype. In her opinion, squads promote exclusivity, and Chloë is completely against that. "I was never included in those things when I was a kid. I was the weird one that chose to do movies, so now I got out of my way to be nice to people and make them feel included," Chloë said in the interview.

In short, don't expect Chloë to join Taylor's squad... like, ever.

I agree with having a good core group of friends,” she told our Patty Adams Martinez, “but the issue I have with squads is it creates exclusivity.” She continued, “I was never included in those things when I was a kid. I was the weird one that chose to do movies, so now I go out of my way to be nice to people and make them feel included.”“[Squads] appropriate exclusivity. They’re cliques!” This 100 percent echoes what Moretz told us just a couple of months ago in her much-talked about NYLON cover story. “I agree with having a good core group of friends,” she told our Patty Adams Martinez, “but the issue I have with squads is it creates exclusivity.” She continued, “I was never included in those things when I was a kid. I was the weird one that chose to do movies, so now I go out of my way to be nice to people and make them feel included.” Basically, the very notion of #SquadGoals is old hat for her.
