Mizzou May Be Punished Financially for Student Protests

A group of lawmakers in Missouri voted this week to penalize the University of Missouri financially because of the student protests that took place on campus in November.

Last week, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon proposed a six percent increase in funding for higher education, totaling $55.6 million for all state-funded colleges and universities in the state of Missouri. The proposal ended up being approved for a two percent increase, but the increase applied to all state-funded institutions except for the University of Missouri's Columbia campus.

Rep. Donna Lichtenegger (R-Jackson), chair of the House Committee for Higher Education Appropriations, claims that the exclusion comes as a result of the controversy that erupted on campus and in the media last year regarding student activists protesting the administration's response to racism on campus.

"They are there to learn. Not to protest all day long," she said, according to the Huffington Post. "I thought we learned that lesson in the '60s. Obviously we haven't."

Students began protesting in November due to their disappointment with faculty and administrative responses to many racially charged incidents that took place on campus. In a video that has since gone viral, protesters can be seen at the Mizzou homecoming parade surrounding then-President Tim Wolfe's convertible as it travelled through the crowd of parade-goers and speaking one-by-one through a megaphone about racist incidents that have taken place on campus from Mizzou's founding year, 1839, to 2015. The incident is what ultimately resulted in Wolfe resigning as president of the university.

The protests at Mizzou sparked demonstrations at other schools around the country, and a recent survey of college freshman showed that students are more likely to protest than ever before.

Lichtenegger now claims that the university student government should do more to prevent protests from happening.

Lichtenegger expressed annoyance that the protests had made national news, according to the Columbia Missourian. "It has made our university a laughingstock, and I'm trying to make people understand that we are not going to be a laughingstock," she said.

It seems as though only one person had enough nerve to combat the proposal. Stephen Webber (D-Columbia) claims that the proposal is simply unfair because of the fact that it was created out of retaliation.

"In my opinion, it's retaliatory, and retaliatory actions from General Assembly and the legislature are not going to be felt by administrators that people are frustrated with," he said in the Missourian. "It's going to be felt by students by way of higher fees and reduced educational opportunities."

This isn't the first time that Missouri legislators have tried to punish Mizzou and its students for the protests. In December, state Rep. Rick Brattin proposed that student athletes who refused to play for any reason other than health (such as protest) should lose their scholarships. However, the Brattin later dropped the bill.

Adele's Son Dresses Up As Anna from 'Frozen' at Disneyland

There's nothing better than seeing a photo of a happy family having a good time at the happiest place on earth. Adele—along with her partner, Simon Konecki, and their son, Angelo—spent the day in Disneyland after a very busy week in Los Angeles. What makes this picture of the singer strolling around Disneyland so much better, though, is the fact that Angelo is dressed as Anna from Frozen.

It's so amazing to see Adele crushing society's gender norms and allowing her son to be whoever he wants to be. It's also not a surprise, given Adele's past statements about supporting her child's decisions as he grows up, no matter what.

"I can't wait to know who his best friends are going to be, who his girlfriend or his boyfriend is going to be or what movies he likes," she told TIME. "Whatever my kid wants to do or be I will always support him no matter what."

You go, Adele.

No One Came to the Anti-Beyoncé Protest

Beyoncé’s performance of “Formation” at Super Bowl 50 was not well-received by everyone. So, some planned to protest in an anti-Beyoncé rally outside of NFL headquarters in New York City on Tuesday.

Police and Beyoncé supporters showed up, ready to combat the protesters. The only problem? The protesters ghosted. Reports say that, at most, two people might have shown up—and even the accuracy of that number is unclear. Not even the person in charge of organizing the protest came.

Beyoncé released the “Formation” video the day before the Super Bowl. The video itself references Hurricane Katrina, police brutality and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Her performance of the song at the Super Bowl was highly criticized for its connection to the Black Panthers and its message of black empowerment.

It doesn’t seem like Beyoncé is all that concerned with what people think. As “Formation” Beyoncé would say, “You know you that bitch when you cause all this conversation.” Not only is she queen but psychic.

People Boycotted Starbucks After This Sign Went Viral

“Please no entry for ladies only send your driver to order thank you,” read a sign outside a Starbucks in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The law in Saudi Arabia requires families and single people to have separate entrances. After a wall separating the entrances fell down, the store decided to only accommodate single men. After the sign went viral, French activists spoke out and some are even boycotting Starbucks.

Starbucks issued a statement to CNN that says, "At Starbucks, we adhere to the local customs of Saudi Arabia by providing separate entrances for families as well as single people. In addition, all our stores provide equal amenities, service, menu, and seating to men, women and families. We are working as quickly as possible as we refurbish our Jarir store so that we may again welcome all customers in accordance with local customs.”

Starbucks then announced that they obtained permission to refurbish the store in Jarir that previously did not have a gender wall.

"This was the only such Starbucks store in Saudi Arabia. During construction, the store could only accommodate and serve single men, and a poster was placed at the store entrance as required by local law.”

Women are now able to access the store as well as the 77 others in Saudi Arabia. One store is even reserved exclusively for women and families.

This situation just shows that you should always check out viral internet memes yourself before you jump on a bandwagon—There might be another side to the story!

Kate Hudson Comments on Her Relationship with Nick Jonas

Since September, rumors have been swirling about whether or not Kate Hudson and Nick Jonas are actually together. And their statements on the matter are, well, not especially helpful.

Jonas, who appears on this month’s cover of Complex, told the magazine that he and Hudson have “a beautiful connection.” Whatever that means.

When Hudson was asked on CBS This Morning to address Jonas' statements, she responded, “He’s a great guy. He’s a sweetheart.” Don't count this interviewer out, though. A smooth follow-up question is all we needed to get a little more scoop: "What would he say about you?" Her answer could not be more spot-on. "Apparently, that we have a beautiful connection."

Neither of the famous hotties has ever given more than a hint that they're an item. We guess we'll just have to wait and see if this possible relationship develops into something more.

Missouri Professor Seen Cursing at Cop in New Video

Remember Melissa Click, the University of Missouri assistant professor who was suspended from her job after a confrontation with a student journalist?

A recently released video from the Columbia Police Department is causing even more trouble for Click. In the video, she is cursing at a cop who is trying to clear a roadway on campus, which protesters were attempting to block.

"Click can be seen screaming profanities at an officer who placed an arm on her as he told her to get back on the sidewalk,” USA Today reports. "Less than two weeks later, the assistant communication professor was captured on video calling for 'some muscle' to help her eject a student journalist at a protest site on the university's quad.”

Click is currently applying for tenure, but the university’s interim chancellor, Hank Foley, is not happy with her behavior.

"Her conduct and behavior are appalling, and I am not only disappointed, I am angry, that a member of our faculty acted this way,” he said in a statement. "Her actions caught on camera last October, are just another example of a pattern of misconduct by Dr. Click — most notably, her assault on one of our students while seeking ‘muscle’ during a highly volatile situation on Carnahan Quadrangle in November.”

Click says that the incident showed her “purpose was to protect the students.” In the video, she can be seen with her arms out, seemingly trying to act as a barrier between the students and the police officers.

Click has been suspended from campus for now, but state GOP lawmakers believe the university should have fired Click and have threatened to freeze funding because of how the university is handling the situation.

"My mistake is just one part of who I am," Click told the Columbia Missourian. "I want to stay at MU. I deserve to be heard and I deserve to be treated fairly, and I’m going to fight to be treated fairly. I think it’s everybody’s right to be treated fairly."

This New Doll May Just Inspire the "Next Generation of Leaders"

Can a doll change the world?

That’s what Neha Chauhan Woodward wants to do with her Kickstarter project, Willowbrook Girls: Dolls for the Next Generation of Leaders.

The Willowbrook Girls are a book and doll series that will consist of seven characters, a diverse group of fifth grade girls who start a small business together. Chauhan hopes that the dolls will “redefine beauty,” and teach girls about the importance of character and leadership.

“I have talked to about 100 parents about what they were looking for in a toy for their daughter. They said that everything felt surface level or uninspiring or just wrapped in pink. They wanted something that could be a positive and good role model for their daughters,” Chauhan says in the video on her Kickstarter page. “But here’s the thing: their daughters loved playing with dolls... And that’s when they realized that we could build something better."

After working on the project for a year, Chauhan is ready for manufacturing—But first, she needs a little help.

There are different Kickstarter rewards for backers starting from $10, and currently she's already raised more than $10,000 of her $30,000 goal.

Each doll comes with a kit, specifically tailored to the career interests of the doll. The kits include lessons, activities, and stories about real-life women who’ve taken the same career path, to help inspire young girls.

“Girls today are amazing. They are smart, ambitious and opinionated and I want to empower young girls by giving them toys of characters that can finally resonate with them, that can attempt to live up to how amazing our girls are,” Chauhan says.

The first doll in the series is Cara, a half-Latina aspiring businesswoman. When the project meets its first goal of $30,000, Cara and the first Willowbrook Girls book, written by Molly Donovan, will be available for purchase. More dolls can come into production by late Fall this year if Chauhan and her team reach their stretch goal of $200,000.

One thing’s for sure: We definitely love Neha’s message and this Kickstarter project!

Blake Lively brought her mother as her plus one to the Michael Kors runway show at New York Fashion Week. While we expected Blake to bring her husband, Ryan Reynolds, how cute is it that her mom tagged along instead? Of course, Ryan is off promoting his latest film, Deadpool, which is achieving widespread success.

In an interview with E! News, Blake spoke about her hubby's success with the film and said that they are enjoying every moment of it.

"We had a very happy Valentine's Day thanks to Deadpool. We've been high-fiving and go carting, and we're so happy. He worked so hard for so long. It's so nice to see people loving it so much," Lively said. "I'm about to see it for the third time. I'm the No. 1 fan!"

Although Blake and Ryan are partners in marriage and parenthood, she says that one of her favorite aspects of motherhood is keeping her own mom in the loop.

"I really appreciate my mom more than I ever have, but don't tell her, 'cause I don't want her to get a big head!” the actress said.

20 Things You Should Never Say to a Latina

$

If you're a Latina, we guarantee you've heard just about all of these. From people asking if we're Spanish who speak Mexican to constantly being asked if we can say something in Spanish, people will forever will be stereotypical of who they think we are.

1. “You guys have bad temper.”

Please tell me something I don’t know.

2. “You’re so spicy!”

Oh sorry, I didn't know I was a piece of food.

3. “Say something in Spanish” or worse, “say something sexy in Spanish”

No thank you! I'm not part of a circus.

4. “Are you Mexican?”

Why do people constantly assume that if you speak Spanish that means you’re here illegally?

5. “Hey, Mami.”

For one, I’m not your mother and second of all I have a name. Learn it.

6. “Call me papi.”

Hell NO! Last time I checked, you are not my dad.

7. “Latinas are curvy.”

Unfortunately, curviness is one of the many things I did not inherited.

8. “Are you Spanish?”

Like from the country Spain? No, not really. Spanish is just the language we speak. Unless my parents lied to me.

9. “You’re an alien.”

Huh? Aliens aren’t real. Never want to assume that someone is here undocumented.

10. “Can you cook?”

Because all Latinas can cook, right? Sorry, but no.

11. “What do you mean you can’t dance? Aren’t you a Latina?”

Your point?

12. “You come from a big family, don’t you?”

Define “big”. I only have one sibling.

13. “I bet you're so a freak in bed.”

Um...

14. “Do you speak Mexican?”

Last time I checked that wasn't a language.

15. “I love Spanish food!”

Never had it.

16. “I don't know how they do things in your country but here…”

Just stop right there.

17. “You’re so caliente.”

AKA dirty talk fail.

18. “Latina's are crazy.”

We sure are! WATCH OUT!

19. “What are you?”

Uhhh...can you elaborate please?

20. “I only date Latinas.”

Ok, yeah, sure

Sex can be embarrassing. Yes, we said it. While it's supposed to be great, it can at times be completely cringe-worthy.

We asked 13 college women to tell us the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to them during sex and their answers were pretty mortifying.

"Once my boyfriend was going down on me and he said something that made me laugh and I farted in his face. Good news is he thought it was hilarious despite how mortified I was!"

-Caroline, NYU Class of 2016

"I had a significant amount of toilet paper stuck in my vagina that he found as he was performing oral sex."

-Emma, Colby College Class of 2019

"We were getting into it when he had to throw up, so I helped him and gave him water. Then he brushed his teeth a few times, swished some mouth wash and then we still had sex anyway. After he asked me to stay and cuddle but I just put a water bottle by the bed and left."

-Tori, University of North Carolina at Greensboro Class of 2018

"Once while my boyfriend-at-the-time was going down on me, he started having a nosebleed! At first he was really grossed out because he thought it was my period, but then we realized it was coming from him. He must have bumped his nose or something, but either way it was a disaster."

-Anna, Kenyon College Class of 2018

"Like most girls when they lose their virginity, my first time wasn't the best. It didn't really 'fit', so I don't even know if I could even count that time as sex. However the first time I had successful sex, the guy I was having sex with looked down at me and said, 'There you go, baby. I'm so proud of you!' ...absolutely humiliating."

-Becky, Colby College Class of 2016

"One time my stomach was hurting so bad that it sounded like I passed gas and the guy asked if I did. I was mortified and it was just my stomach! I couldn't imagine actually doing it!"

-Kaylyn, Kent State University Class of 2016

"I have really horrible shoulders, arthritis and everything, and one time while hooking up with some guy, my shoulder completely dislocated and I had to stop everything. So embarrassing."

-Meghan, Wilfrid Laurier University Class of 2016

"The first time I brought this one guy home we were hooking up again in the morning and he said he was tired and wanted to stop and said he would be right back.  He went to the bathroom and I looked around and all I could see was blood, blood everywhere. My period had come during sex that morning and he couldn't even tell me; he just walked out of the room. His nickname became handprint boy because of the bloody handprints that were left all over the sheets."

-Ann, Wilfrid Laurier University Class of 2016

"One time, I fell asleep when I was going down on my boyfriend... Oops."

-Rachel, Colby College Class of 2016

"I was on top of him and he pulled out too quickly and full force stuffed his penis all the way up my asshole. I lost my breath and couldn't talk and he was just staring at me. I started crying. I asked him if he knew what had just happened and he said, 'Yeah, it was way tighter.' I barely knew him."

-Johanna, Bentley University Class of 2019

"I had always wanted to use whipped cream during sex and when my boyfriend's birthday came around I decided it would be a perfect time to try it out. I wanted it to be a surprise though so I blindfolded my boyfriend before I brought it out. Then I opened the spray can of whipped cream and started to draw a line down the middle of his chest. I knew as soon as I did that he would know what was going on, but when he questioned what I was doing I simply told him to relax. Then I attempted to sexily lick the whipped cream off his chest from his waistline up, but I had put too much on. The line was too thick and I couldn't fit it all in my mouth, let alone the whole line I had drawn. My boyfriend took the blindfold off and just looked at me. I was so embarrassed. I had wanted to do something special, something fun, and I had failed majorly. I then proceeded to grab some Kleenex and wipe the rest (basically all) of the whipped cream off his chest. He was a good sport about it though and consoled me when I tried to hide my face in the corner of the bed."

Having a lack of a filter is something most people will never have to experience, but for those of us with this particular affliction, life can get pretty messy pretty quickly. People either love it or hate it, but either way they're just going to have to deal with it. If you have no filter, here are 18 struggles you most likely face on a daily basis.

1. People tend to make one of these faces when something comes out of your mouth

2. And you contemplate if you should apologize but usually don’t

3. Your friends know what is going on in your head pretty much 24/7

4. Even if they would rather not...

5. It's just that you feel like you're lying if you don’t state every thought that goes through your head

6. Because every single one is so important to be said out loud

7. People think you're a bitch because you're not afraid to tell them when you disagree

8. But you know it's really just that you say what everyone else is already thinking

9. You’ve never understood the phrase “socially acceptable”

10. Nor that there is “a time and a place for everything”

11. You're the first one everyone comes to for advice because your friends know you’ll tell them what everyone else is afraid to

12. Your friends gesture to you when they see you beginning to form a thought about somebody else present

13. But that rarely stops you…

14. They have learned to make excuses to people to save themselves

15. You find that there is a lot you can get out of by just saying your actual thoughts sarcastically

16. You have no patience for people who get offended easily

17. You walk a fine line between being offensive and lovably blunt on a daily basis

18. Although people may think you are rude and insensitive, for the most part you're just completely misunderstood

7 Signs You Shouldn’t Have Sex With Them

$

0

Sleeping with someone is just about as intimate as it gets. If you’re considering having sex with a particular guy or girl, you want to make sure you aren’t going to get hurt. You also want to make sure you’re safe, comfortable and most of all that you enjoy yourself! We talked to experts and collegiettes, and got the scoop on signs you shouldn’t get into bed with a person.

1. They pressure you physically

No one should ever make you do anything you don’t want to do. If someone you’re interested in pursuing a sexual relationship with is pressuring you in any way, that’s a huge red flag. “Women should avoid sleeping with someone if they feel pressured to have sex,” says Kathleen Bogle, professor of sociology and criminal justice at La Salle University, and author of Hooking Up: Sex, Dating and Relationships on Campus. “Sex should never happen as a result of feeling pressured or coerced.” A potential partner should allow you to move at your own pace, and respect your boundaries without pushing you.

If you’re not in the mood, he or she should get that. “No means no. Period. Anything more and you’re being forced,” says Dr. Ish Major, board certified psychiatrist, author and host of Ex Isle with Carmen Electra on WeTV. If you’re hooking up and your partner asks for something you don’t feel comfortable with, you are under no obligation to say yes. “It has always been and will remain your right to change your mind,” says Dr. Major. “This is the very definition of consent and yes, you have the right at any time to reverse course or flat out drop that course and say ‘No!’”

So, how do you say no? Dr. Major breaks down the scenario for you.

Step one: Say, "Stop,""I want you to stop."

“After his lame protest,” Dr. Major says, “say very clearly and firmly again, ‘I want you to stop and I want to (or I want you) to leave.’” Hopefully this works, but if not, proceed to step two.

Step two: Move away.

“Actions speak louder than words,” says Dr. Major.

Step three: Get dressed.

“Whatever clothes are off or undone, redo them,” says Dr. Major.

Step four: Awareness and accountability.

“Let him hear you call your best friend and tell her that you are leaving and will be home soon and talk to her then,” says Dr. Major.

Step five: Leave.

“Leave by car, cab, Uber, train, bicycle, skis, rollerblades, hoverboard, personal plane… Whatever you have, use it and get out the hell out of there,” says Dr. Major.

If you feel pressured in any way, it is in your best interest to end it. Find someone who respects your limits!

2. You’re not on the same page emotionally

Before jumping into bed together, there are certain subjects you need to discuss with your potential partner. It’s important that the two of you want the same thing, whether that’s only sex, or something more. Regardless of what you decide, there is a certain emotional connection that can come with sex—especially for women. “There are plenty of women who crave and enjoy casual sex just as much as guys and handle it just fine, but the fact is that it is more difficult for women to separate the act from the emotion,” explains Dr. Major. “Most if not all guys, on the other hand, have no problem whatsoever separating emotions from any sexual encounter.” If you have feelings for him or her, and he or she doesn’t view your relationship the same way, you shouldn’t sleep together.

“I was thinking about sleeping with a guy I was hooking up with, but something just didn't feel right,” says Emily*, a junior at James Madison University. “He was looking for something a lot more serious than I was, so it turned out better that I didn't do it. Always go with your gut! If you aren't 100 percent into it or something feels off, follow your instincts.” We totally agree.

3. They refuse to wear a condom (or get tested)

You need to be able to trust someone if you’re going to have sex with them. Protection is important, and they shouldn’t make excuses about wearing a condom or getting tested. If they’re willing to fight you on the topic, they’re clearly not worth the risk. “This is an uncomfortable conversation,” says Dr. Major, “but one that needs to be had. Pre-planning is everything. Once you’re in the moment it’s almost impossible to stop those hormones from raging. Hormones and desire have a bad habit of making what’s about to be a horrible decision seem perfectly logical at the time.”

How does this conversation go down? Start by offering your own information. This should make your partner feel more comfortable disclosing the truth. Dr. Major suggests saying something along the lines of, “I’m very careful about who I have sex with and don’t take chances. I have my clearance papers from my doctor to prove it, do you?” While this may be easier said than done, try to keep the future in mind. “Some diseases are for life, and you will need to disclose this info to your future partners in the name of honesty,” says Dr. Major. “If he does not or is not willing to offer you some type of proof then maybe he doesn’t care enough about you to move forward.” Again, no matter how casual the sex, mutual respect is paramount. Even if you’re purely hooking up, your partner should treat you well.

4. You don’t have the same expectations

Neither of you should be sleeping together for the wrong reasons. It’s important to recognize the situation for what it is. If it’s evident that he or she isn’t over someone, that doesn’t necessarily mean you shouldn’t get involved. And if you’re using this person as a rebound, that can be okay, too. According to Dr. Major, 63 percent of people report having rebound sex.

“It’s that old saying, ‘The best way to get over someone is to get under someone new,’” says Dr. Major. “Just understand it for what it is. If you’re the rebound, understand that this very likely may not go anywhere. It takes guys up to nine months to get over a serious breakup. If you’re the one rebounding, cut yourself some slack. It’s okay to be honest and say, ‘I’m just getting out of a serious relationship so I’m really not looking for anything serious.’ Now you can move forward and take it where you like with a clear conscience, because you were honest up front.” Sounds doable to us!

5. You’re feeling tipsy

Whether you’re a little buzzed or flat out hammered, be careful about deciding to sleep with someone if either one of you has been drinking. “Most decisions made under the influence typically don’t end well,” says Dr. Major. Consent becomes a tricky thing when alcohol is involved. It’s better to avoid hooking up altogether while one or both of you is drunk.

It’s never okay to blame the victim and you shouldn’t blame yourself for not wanting to become one,” says Dr. Major. Making a conscious decision to not engage in drunken sex is a smart choice, but obviously alcohol has a way of changing minds. If you do end up hooking up while under the influence, just make sure you feel safe and comfortable. If you change your mind at any time, refer back to Dr. Major’s step-by-step guidelines for saying no.

6. They’re self-absorbed

The sex won’t be enjoyable if the other person isn’t interested in taking care of you. If he or she is self-absorbed, you shouldn’t want any part of that. Plus, it can lead to even more unhealthy behavior down the road. “You can never build a healthy relationship based only on what one person wants,” says Bogle. This is the bottom line.

“I recently got involved with a guy who would treat me poorly over text and even harass me sometimes, but was super sweet in person,” says Jaclyn, a junior at the University of Michigan. “It didn't help that I was extremely attracted to him. I ended up sleeping with him and despite the fact he promised he would be nicer after we hooked up, the harassment and rude texts have continued.” You deserve the best. Don’t settle for sex with anyone who treats you poorly.

7. You have the slightest doubt

Above all, trust your instincts. You know yourself better than anyone. If you have any doubts at all, why risk it? “Women have the best gift ever and that’s your intuition,” says Dr. Major. “It’s there to guide you, to protect you. Don’t let the distractions get in the way of you hearing what it’s saying to you…trust it and it will never steer you wrong.” Uncertainty and hesitation about a partner or situation are clear signifiers that you shouldn’t get involved.

“For me, it was very important that I felt on the same page…with my now-boyfriend before we slept together,” says Alyssa*, a sophomore at Indiana University. “He never pressured me physically, so therefore I was able to wait and we both were able to decide when the time was right. I felt 100 percent comfortable, which I know is a big part of the reason why I don't regret any part of it now.” Listen to yourself and your partner, and you’ll know whether or not to go for it.

Sex can be confusing, so don’t further complicate it by sleeping with someone you shouldn’t. Set clear boundaries at the start, and if your partner isn’t getting it, don’t get it on. If you ever feel uncomfortable, you know you don’t want the same things or you aren’t being treated right—move on. Above all, be safe and have fun, collegiettes!

Your Favorite Cheese May Not Be What You Think It Is

So you know how parmesan cheese is like the best thing ever and you put it on literally everything? But you buy the grated stuff, because you're not made of money. Well, turns out that your favorite cheese may actually contain some ingredients that are, well...not cheese, according to a recent news report.

Bloomberg News tested store-bought grated cheeses for cellulose, “a common anti-clumping agent made from wood pulp” and revealed that all of the cheeses contained it, ranging from .3 percent to 8.8 percent. Not exactly what you want to be hearing as you sprinkle some cheese on top of your pasta after class.

Although the idea of having wood in your cheese sounds gross, Bloomberg does stress that cellulose is a safe additive, but only typically between 2 percent and 4 percent—way less than what many of the cheeses they tested had in them.

Walmart’s Great Value 100% Grated Parmesan Cheese registered 7.8 percent cellulose, while Jewel-Osco’s Essential Everyday 100% Grated Parmesan Cheese had 8.8 percent. In comparison, Kraft had 3.8 percent, Business Insider reports.

You may be thinking, I shop at Whole Foods, my cheese is safe. Well, sorry to burst your bubble but Whole Foods 365 Parmesan tested at .3 percent cellulose, even though they do not list it as an ingredient. Whole Foods is investigating the matter and told Bloomberg that they believe that the test may have been a false positive.

Even more annoying—Market Pantry 100% grated Parmesan Cheese was found by the FDA to be manufactured with "no parmesan cheese," but rather with a mix of other cheeses (like Swiss and mozzerella) and cellulose. If you're going to label something parmesan cheese, maybe make sure it contains at least some parmesan.

If you were wondering why these companies choose to add in the extra ingredient, it is (of course) because it costs less than adding in more pure Parmesan. It's all about the money!

Well, either way, I think I am gonna switch to cheddar.

Starbucks Can't Say Their Drinks Contain 'Chocolate Chips' Because of the FDA

Last week, Starbucks released the “Molten Chocolate Latte,” a limited-edition drink that was only available in the week leading up to Valentine’s Day. In an effort to promote the so-called #StarbucksDate (unoriginal or classic? You decide.), this drink features “chocolately chips” among other artisanal-sounding ingredients that are sure to win over any potential romantic interests.

Excitement about the latest installment in your caffeine addiction aside, what exactly does “chocolatey” mean? Well, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in order for an ingredient to be listed as chocolate, it must contain at least a certain amount of “chocolate liquor,” or cocoa that is in liquid form. That’s 15 percent, to be precise! The Molten Chocolate Latte rings in at only two percent. Therefore, it cannot technically call itself chocolate. Chocolatey, chocolate-flavored, and chocolate-esque are allowed, though.

Despite this technicality, the Molten Latte and other Starbucks drinks are sure to satisfy any and all chocolate cravings, as they include other ingredients such as “Chocolate Espresso Whipped Cream” and “Chocolate Espresso Drizzle.” Definitely no shortage of chocolatey flavors here. Alternatively, give one of these healthy substitutes for your favorites a try!

So go ahead, continue posting pictures to Snapchat and Instagram of your new favorite Starbucks drink, but if you’re going to use the word “chocolate” to describe it, watch out for the FDA!

Amy Schumer Bashes Taylor Swift's Grammys Thigh Gap

We know Amy Schumer isn’t one to hold back when it comes to throwing light-hearted shade at other celebrities. But it looks like her latest target, Taylor Swift, might not be too happy. On Monday, Amy posted an Instagram picture of herself and fellow comedian, Bridget Everett, at the beach. The caption reads: “Taylor that's not a thigh gap. This is a thigh gap.”

Taylor that's not a thigh gap. This is a thigh gap

A photo posted by @amyschumer on

We can only assume Amy is referring to the visible thigh gap exposed by Tay's revealing gown at the Grammys earlier this week. Schumer’s caption stirred up quite a bit of controversy as T. Swift fans fired back at her for criticizing the singer. Instagram users retaliated with a slew of strongly-worded comments on Amy's post.

This isn’t the first time Schumer has been scrutinized for making jokes about other celebrities. And she did apologize, sort of:

We have yet to hear a statement from the “Bad Blood” singer, but hopefully Taylor won't find herself in the midst of another heated feud

Do you think Amy's post was all in good fun or too harsh?

Colorado Planned Parenthood Reopens After Shooting

On Monday, a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs reopened for the first time after the Nov. 27 shooting killed three people. Those three people included police officer Garret Swasey and two civilians, Jennifer Markovsky and Ke’Arre Stewart, BuzzFeed reports.

The shooter, Robert Lewis Dear, 57, has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and assault. "I'm guilty. There's no trial," he declared in court in December, according to The New York Times. "I'm a warrior for the babies."

In a statement made by the Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains on Facebook, they said that they are not letting this vicious attack bring them down. “Today, we opened our doors in Colorado Springs. We didn’t back down. We didn’t disappear. We returned, stronger and with more conviction than ever.”

Vicki Cowart, president of Planned Parenthood Rocky Mountains, told reporters, “We are opening today with our eyes to the future,” according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Cowart also talked about how difficult the shooting was for the Planned Parenthood staff. "They were strong and they were brave on the day of the shooting, they have been resilient and hardworking since," she said.

Although it is just the first day back, protesters gathered in front of the building, upset that it was reopening.

Meanwhile, the staff held a welcome back lunch on the day of the reopening, Cowart told The Washington Post. All the staff from the time of the shooting are planning to resume work at the clinic. And while it makes sense to wonder if Planned Parenthood would want to change buildings after a traumatic shooting, the plan was always to reopen the same facility.

"This is our home," Cowart told the Post.

Kim Kardashian Might Be Tired of Kanye's Twitter Drama

Kim Kardashian has finally admitted that she's tired of her husband's social media antics. At least that's what a source is now telling People.

The past few weeks have been pretty interesting for Kanye West. We would say that the recent release of his newest, highly-anticipated album, The Life of Pablo, is to blame for this. After all, changing the name of your album three times just weeks before its debut can probably be a bit stressful. But, between his explosive Twitter feud with Wiz Khalifa, the controversy surrounding his assertion that Bill Cosby is innocent and his latest beef with Taylor Swift, we're not exactly sure what's going on with him these days.

People Magazine claims Kim literally "can't stand" all the drama that Kanye has been involved in on social media.

"What causes friction in the marriage, however, is Kanye's compulsive tweeting," the source said. "Kim can't stand it. She is all for self-promotion, but doesn't approve of Twitter drama." RadarOnline also reports that Kanye is "in the dog house right now."

We're almost positive Kim Kardashian didn't say any of that, and we're also pretty sure that social media isn't enough to make this duo's marriage go down in flames. But given recent events, we wouldn't be shocked at all to learn that Kim's had enough of Kanye's Twitter fingers.

Long-Term Birth Control: Everything You Need to Know

You probably know about the pill, but did you know there are options available that last much longer? To fill you in on these options and their effectiveness, side effects, benefits, risks and more, Her Campus brings you the ultimate guide to long-term birth control!

Why use long-term birth control?

Long-term birth control can be preferable for a variety of reasons. Dr. Sara Rizk, an assistant professor of gynecology and obstetrics at Emory University, says, “The reason these methods work better than the pill is because they, in effect, eliminate user error.” However, due to the fact that none of the long-term forms of birth control (or even the pill) prevent STIs, other precautions, like using condoms, must be taken.

IUDs (Intrauterine Devices)

An IUD is small, T-shaped and made out of a flexible plastic. A doctor inserts the IUD into a woman’s uterus, and, depending on the type of IUD, it can stay in from anywhere to three to 10 years at a time. According to Dr. Shieva Ghofrany, a gynecologist at Coastal Obstetrics & Gynecology, there are two varieties of IUDs in the United States:

Copper IUD - ParaGard

  • Over 99 percent effective
  • Non-hormonal
  • Effective for 10 years

While still made of plastic, this IUD is coated with copper, Dr. Ghofrany says. Most often referred to by its brand name, ParaGard, it can stay in the body and remain effective for 10 years. Dr. Ghofrany says that a specific downside of this type is that there is no effect on hormones, which may make your period heavier and give you more cramps. However, since this IUD is the only non-hormonal birth control, you won’t have to experience the side effects that often come with hormones, such as moodiness and changes in sex drive.

Becca*, a sophomore from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, started using ParaGard two years ago. “Before I got my IUD, I was on the pill,” Becca says. “I never remembered to take it, so I was always scared I was going to get pregnant if I had sex. Part of the reason I got ParaGard was to get rid of that fear. I’m free to do what I want now without worrying.”

Hormonal IUD – Mirena/Skyla

  • Over 99 percent effective
  • Hormonal
  • Effective for three to five years depending on brand

These IUDs are made of plastic and are injected with progestin, a hormone that prevents pregnancy. “This is meant to ‘thin out’ the uterine lining to make very little, if no period,” Dr. Ghofrany says.

Mirena can remain in the body and stay effective for five years, while Skyla lasts for three years. According to Dr. Ghofrany, some patients will report systemic side effects like mood changes, headaches, breast tenderness and irregular bleeding.

Both types of IUDs

With both of these types, there are shared advantages and disadvantages. “In general, [IUDs] are harder to put in if you haven’t had children because the cervix is less dilated,” Dr. Ghofrany says. Additionally, she says that IUDs don’t prevent STIs, and sometimes, bacteria can lead to a bad pelvic infection by sticking to the IUD, putting you more at risk for these STIs.

On the other hand, the chances of getting pregnant with an IUD are extremely low, with ParaGard, Mirena and Skyla being over 99 percent effective. Dr. Warren Kennedy, an OB/GYN at Hobart Women’s Specialists, says, “Mirena is almost as effective as getting your ‘tubes tied,’ but completely reversible.”

Birth Control Implant

  • Ninety-nine percent effective
  • Hormonal
  • Effective for three years

A birth control implant is a small, flexible plastic implant that is inserted under the skin of the upper part of the arm by a doctor. The implant continually releases progestin, and Dr. Kennedy says it remains effective for three years. Fewer than one out of 100 women a year will become pregnant while using the implant.

Disadvantages vary among women, but according to Dr. Kennedy, you can feel the implant under your skin, which freaks some women out. However, over time, you won’t even notice it. Additionally, “irregular bleeding is relatively common and is the reason most [implants] are removed,” he says.

Although there are two different brands, Nexplanon and Implanon, there aren’t many differences between the two. Unlike Implanon, Nexplanon is radiopaque, meaning the implant itself can be tracked and show up in an X-ray, an ultrasound, on an MRI and a CT scan. The only other difference is that Nexplanon is quicker and easier to insert due to a development with the applicator.

Birth Control Shot

  • Ninety-nine percent effective
  • Hormonal
  • Effective for 12 weeks

The shot goes by its brand name, Depo-Provera, or by the name of the medicine in the shot, DMPA. “The Depo-Provera shot is a progesterone-only shot in a high dose that slowly releases over time,” Dr. Ghofrany says. It’s given to you by your doctor every 12 weeks. She also says that the shot attracts many women because sometimes it causes them to miss their period altogether. This form is highly effective, with fewer than one out of 100 women getting pregnant each year.

One of the biggest problems with this contraceptive is that if side effects do occur, the only choice is to wait it out until the shot wears off in the coming months, according to Dr. Ghofrany. “I have seen women with side effects for over 12 months after an injection,” Dr. Kennedy says. The most common side effects are irregular bleeding and increased hunger, due to the high dose of progesterone. Additionally, out of all the different long-term forms of birth control, the shot is the one most associated with weight gain.

No matter what birth control method you choose, it’s important to know the facts. “The bottom line is, there’s no ‘best’ birth control; just pros and cons to each,” Dr. Ghofrany says.

Talking with your doctor and deciding for yourself what you’re comfortable with is very important. So if you’re looking for something other than the pill, start looking into some of these contraceptives!
