How to Shop Your Closet When You Feel Like You Have Nothing Cool

$

There’s nothing sadder than a full closet empty of inspiration; you have too many clothes to count, but you still feel like you have nothing to wear! When we’ve worn all our outfits at least a hundred times, we’re compelled to just ditch our wardrobe completely and splurge on some brand-new clothes. But while our fashion-loving hearts say yes, our college budgets aggressively shake their heads no. Well, don’t give up on your closet just yet, as we’ve found some new ways to “shop” your own clothes and rediscover the pieces you’ve stayed so faithful to.

Mix things up!

When we curate our own collection of stylish outfits, we tend to go basic and put pieces together to create “safely” fashionable outfits. Instead of playing it on the safe side, try mixing it up! Unload some of your favorite tops and bottoms from your closet, then close your eyes and pick a top and bottom randomly! Even if the two pieces look odd together, try it on and see how you like it. Tuck parts in, cuff some sleeves, tie some sections here and there and see what you can create! Today, style is more limitless than ever; all kinds of clothing trends from different eras and different parts of the world are in right now, so don’t be afraid to be more experimental with your outfits. The results may shock you and have you smitten with a new sense of style.

Accessories are everything

Don’t forget about all your little bits and baubles as they can totally reshape the outfits you wear!  A patterned scarf or a pair of sparkling studs can give the most basic outfits a whole new life to them.

Micki Wagner, a senior at the University of Missouri-Columbia, says accessories spice up many of her everyday outfits.  “For me, accessories can change the way I feel about an outfit. You can elevate a simple T-shirt and jeans by adding a chunky necklace or dangly earrings. Or you can make a sweater and leggings feel more polished by adding your favorite watch into the mix. The best part about this is that you can use accessories you already have or swap with your friends/sister/roommate,” Micki says. Hats are super trendy now too, so try on one of your old snapbacks or that fun fedora buried in your closet to level up all your outfits.

If you want an understated yet magical transformation to your outfits, your accessories are the way the to go!

Get some social media inspiration

Want to shake things up but still need some inspiration to get started? Our favorite social sites like Instagram and Pinterest are hotspots for some serious fashion inspiration. Surf through Instagram and Pinterest for the items you want to style or for certain styles you're going for (e.g. ‘90s chic, contemporary style, etc.).

“If I notice there's a certain tee shirt I haven't worn in a while, I'll look up 'white tee shirt outfits' on Pinterest and save a bunch of ideas. My outfit inspo board on Pinterest is titled ‘Project Runway,’” says Erica Galluscio, a junior at Hunter College.

Pinterest can provide tons of creative ideas for pairing pieces together, while Instagram can update you on all the latest fashion trends, trends you can replicate with your own wardrobe.

“I shop at Fashion Nova frequently, so I like to look at the Fashion Nova/Nova Babes tags on Instagram to get inspiration,” says Chelsea Jackson, a senior at Iowa State University. Search for certain styles you want to recreate with your own wardrobe, and who knows, maybe you had all the pieces you needed to create a certain look that’ll be your new favorite.

Don’t ignore some of your clothes

We all have that one piece we thought would be our new fave outfit essential when we were buying it but now it's practically collecting dust.

Meghan Schaffer, a sophomore at the College of Holy Cross, says, “Look for pieces that you don’t wear that often. Find a new way to wear something that’s just been sitting in your closet —you bought it for a reason so there must be something you like about it.”

Maybe that one pair of weirdly fitting jeans just needed to be paired with one of your high cropped tops instead of a tee or that grandma sweater needed to be tied up at your upper torso and worn with some distressed shorts to look super cute and fashion-forward. Don't leave those neglected pieces behind, give them one last chance before you write them off as unwearable.

Learn to layer

If your dressing checklist usually goes “shirt, check, bottom, check, shoes, check” then you’re seriously missing out on a full-proof styling secret: layering! Layering more pieces onto your basic outfits brings more visual interest and personality to your style. Hannah Strader, a senior at the University of Kansas, looks to layering as an awesome way to dress up what she already wears.

“My favorite thing to do is play with layers. You can dress up a graphic tee by throwing on a jacket or blazer and wearing it with dressier pants and boots,” Hannah says. “My favorite piece of advice is to wear heels with yoga pants or joggers. It immediately dresses up everything. Plus, don’t be afraid to use regular button--up chambray shirts or plaids as a piece of outerwear to be layered on top of more basic pieces.”

Layering makes clothing look more detailed and put together and it makes what you already have in your closet more versatile. Experiment with different textures, patterns and colors in your closet and layer those unique pieces together to create a beautifully dynamic ensemble!

Splice different styles together!

The best styles are the ones too unique to even describe, and those are born when two fashion worlds collide! Instead of going for just one vibe when you dress up, try to put pieces with totally different vibes together and you might be surprised.

“I love to combine business professional and casual in my style,” says Chelsea. “I'll take a graphic/comic book t-shirt and layer it with a blazer or structured cardigan on top.”

Streetwear mixed with French chic, bohemian spliced with punk styles, --all these combos can make some sick new ensembles that’ll set trends wherever you strut across campus!

Repurpose/DIY your closet!

Old can turn to gold when you give some of your clothes a much-needed makeover! Try repurposing and altering the pieces you’re tired of. Youtube and Pinterest have tons of cool DIYs for transforming your clothes. Ripping seams, cutting and re-sowing, bedazzling and ironing on patches and prints can revamp the oldest and most boring pieces into new ones you’ll be excited to wear. Turning a pair of old jeans into a cute pair of distressed shorts or transforming that flannel shirt into a gorgeous two-piece outfit are just some examples of what you can create from your own wardrobe. Live out your designer dreams and redesign your clothes into more personalized and creative art pieces you’ll wear every day!

Our closets always need a good reboot now and then, but that doesn’t mean we have to spend tons of money for a closet re-do or that we need to throw away all the pieces we’ve worn and loved for so long; ‘shopping’ your own closet is not only an affordable option but a sustainable one as well! Instead of throwing your unwanted clothes into the bin and contributing to waste, sustain your closet to a healthy degree and find all the wonderful things you overlook about the clothes you already have. As you shop through your closet, if you run into pieces you know have had a good run and are confident you won’t wear anymore, try donating them or recycling them. Have fun shopping in your closet till you drop and here’s to being fashionably, affordably and environmentally conscious!

Kylie Jenner Revealed The Name Of Her Daughter Crushing Fan Theories & Sending The Internet Into A Frenzy

Kylie Jenner posted an adorable Instagram picture of her newborn daughter holding Kylie's (perfectly manicured) finger, but the most exciting part was the caption, which read: "stormi 👼🏽"

stormi 👼🏽

A post shared by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

Kris Jenner reposted the photo on both Twitter and Instagram, adding "Meet my precious granddaughter Stormi! I love you endlessly," with a slew of pretty pink heart emojis.

And Kim tweeted a simple emoji.

Fans had previously theorized a variety of names for Kylie and Travis Scott's new daughter, born February 1. Due to Kylie often wearing butterflies and even choosing to decorate her daughter's room with them, many thought that the name would be some form of the word.

It was because of these innovative theories that when Kylie dropped the news today, some were a little disappointed.

Others still managed to intertwine what everyone previously thought with Kylie's actual decision.

Regardless, we're glad the mystery is over. Congrats, Kylie!

Starbucks Just Dropped a New Valentine's Day Drink & It's Chocolate-Covered Cherry-Flavored

After the seemingly endless array of festive holiday drinks and their red cups are gone, Starbucks runs in January and February can feel a little sad in comparison when it's time to switch back to regular, non-gingerbread flavored coffee. Luckily, Starbucks heard our prayers and dropped a festive Valentine's Day drink — complete with pink sprinkles, no less.

Starting tomorrow Feb. 7 through Feb. 14, you'll be able to order the coffee chain's new Cherry Mocha— which is basically just chocolate-covered cherries in coffee form. The drink upgrades a typical mocha with candied cherry syrup, whipped cream and red and pink sprinkles — making it v Instagrammable in addition to being delicious.

If, for some reason, iced drinks in the middle of February are more your thing you can also get the Cherry Mocha as a Frappuccino or iced.

So, y'know, if you're looking for a cute way to surprise your (coffee addicted) Valentine next week, showing up at his or her 8 a.m. class with one of these in hand just may be the way to their heart — bonus points if you also bring along confetti heart cake pop or heart-shaped sugar cookie.

A Cornell Fraternity Is on Probation After Making Pledges Participate in a Disgusting 'Pig Roast' Sex Contest

The chapter of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity at Cornell University was placed on probation last week after an investigation conducted by the university found that the fraternity was forcing pledges to participate in what it referred to as a "pig roast," or a competition to see which pledge could have sex with the most women.

According to the Cornell Daily Sun, in the competition, "new members could accumulate ‘points’ by engaging in sexual intercourse with women." If that isn't already sexist and disgusting enough, in the case of a tie, members were told that the pledge who had sex with the heaviest woman won. According to the investigation by the university's Fraternity and Sorority Review Board the contest allegedly took place sometime in 2017, but the brothers involved haven't been named and the length of the contest is unknown.

As a result, Cornell has given the fraternity two years of "probationary recognition," that will require the chapter to be fully reviewed by the national Zeta Beta Tau organization — which says it also plans to institute a "live-in advisor" at the chapter's house. The fraternity will also have to participate in Cornell's Sexual Assault Awareness Week programming.

Cornell's vice president of campus life and student affairs said in a statement that the competition, "is abhorrent to me and antithetical to our values as a community. Behavior that degrades and dehumanizes women contributes to a climate and culture of tolerance for sexual violence."

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time a Cornell fraternity has been in hot water over some pretty horrific allegations — late last year, the school announced it would be closing its chapter of Psi Upsilon fraternity indefinitely after members were involved in an alleged hate crime.

Kylie Jenner Is Reportedly Ready to Return to Her 'Normal Life' After Giving Birth to Her Daughter

I'd be lying if I said I hadn't spent the majority of the last 48 hours since Kylie Jenner's pregnancy and birth announcement keeping up with (or rather, catching up with) her last nine months since she went under the radar after rumors surfaced that she was pregnant. (Raise your hand if you've already watched her adorable pregnancy video more times than you can count?)

Luckily, it sounds like, despite a brief and understandable break from the usual spotlight, we'll be starting to see a lot more of Kylie now that she's officially a mother.

According to a source that spoke to People, Kylie, "is relieved that her baby girl is here so she could share her 'secret.' She is looking forward to being out and about more," the source said. "She wanted her pregnancy to be low-key, but she misses parts of her old life."

A post shared by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

Hopefully, this means we can start to prepare ourselves for an end to Kylie's hiatus on her signature outfit posts, and can look forward to actually seeing her (and Stormi!) on the Kardashian Christmas card next year. However, for the time being, the source also adds that Kylie's just looking forward to resting and being a mom.

“For now, she wants to rest and bond with her baby. But she is also excited about eventually getting back in shape and going on dates with Travis. She says that she is ready to return to a more normal life."

TBH, I'm just glad we're no longer in suspense, and that I don't feel the need to analyze every Kardashian Instagram post like a trained member of the CIA. Meanwhile, I'll just go back to watching Kylie's "To Our Daughter" video for the sixteenth time.

The 17 Cutest Things to Do With Your Boyfriend on Valentine's Day

$

It’s the most romantic day of the year… until you end up basically sitting in the lap of the couple next to you at a crazy expensive Valentine’s Day dinner, wondering if the gift you got your boyfriend was too much or not enough. We've all fallen prey to Valentine’s Day SNAFU (don’t even get us started on Valentine’s Day last year), from lingerie mishaps to dining disasters. This year, to keep you embracing candy hearts and Cupids, we've compiled 17 cute things you can do with or for your boyfriend on your ~special day~. What are the most unique and romantic ways to celebrate? What does your boyfriend really want? How can you spice up the day without stressing out? We have you covered.

1. Be a snow bunny

We know, we know—we’re all tired of freezing every time we step outside and slipping on ice when we walk to class. But few things are as romantic as playing in the snow with your boyfriend on Valentine’s Day. Channel your inner 10-year-old and head outside for a snowball fight and snow angels—we're sure your man will be happy to keep you warm.

2. Dress the part

The easiest way to spread Valentine’s cheer is to go elementary school and wear pink and red. Meet your boyfriend for a day date in skinny jeans and a pink top or sport a red mini dress for your night together. For after hours, try Victoria’s Secret's Valentines-themed lingerie.

3. Give a gift that keeps giving

As we searched for the perfect gift for our boyfriends last Valentine’s Day, we knew that guys love two things: beer and lots of beer. It was with this information that we stumbled upon Amazing Clubs. Amazing Clubs is a website that lets you send a 12-pack of gourmet beer to your boyfriend every month for as many months as you choose. If beer is too pricey, you can also order coffee, BBQ sauce or ice cream.

4. Go ice-skating

The HC team’s number one recommendation for a perfect Valentine’s date is ice-skating. If romantic comedies have taught us anything, it is that skating rinks breed romance. So go have yourself a Serendipity moment and spend the day ice-skating with your BF—don’t forget the cocoa!

5. Go skinny-dipping

If ice-skating is too tame and your school is in a sunny place, many HCers recommend nighttime skinny-dipping. Seriously, few things are hotter than a steamy, late-night swim. Just be careful, please; getting caught trespassing might kill the mood.

6. Buy him tickets to a game

If you want all of his friends to be saying, “You seriously have the best girlfriend ever,” tickets to his favorite sporting event are the way to go. Not only will you make his night and show that you’re into his interests, but you’ll also get to share something special to him together, and what’s better than that? StubHub is a great place to look for discounted tickets.

7. Do dinner in bed

Going out for Valentine’s Day dinner is a tradition that needs to go. Unless you’re Posh and Becks, the service is bound to be terrible, the menu limited and the prices steep. Instead, try ordering in from a favorite restaurant and eating the meal in bed. Spend the night relaxing over good food and cozy company instead of cramped with strangers.

8. Have an indoor picnic

Harvard collegiette Olivia Ford suggests taking the dinner in bed idea even further with an indoor picnic. To decorate your space, string white Christmas lights around the room, buy some picnic-y snacks, pop the champagne and set up a blanket and pillows for you and your boy to sit on. Oh, and don’t forget to ask your roommates for some alone time!

9. Cook him a meal

Strawberry bellinis, chicken parmesan, spaghetti and chocolate mousse—nothing will make your man swoon more quickly than a delicious Valentine’s meal. If you're feeling ambitious and extra sweet, cooking dinner for your boyfriend is the way to go. If you're an all-star in the kitchen, check out Food Network’s Valentine’s Day food and dessert recipes. However, if you’re like most of us and cooking a full gourmet meal is not a possibility, look at ifood’s simple recipes, like heart-shaped pizza. Also, if your boyfriend is up for it, cook dinner together—it will be surprisingly sexy to see your guy move around the kitchen.

10. Give him a classic card

Whether you’ve been dating for a while and you want to tell him how you feel or you haven’t been dating long at all but want to show you care, a card goes a long way. Get out the construction paper, doilies and stamps, and get artsy. For amazing card ideas, check out Martha Stewart’s card projects. When it comes to writing, a cute poem or heartfelt message is always a hit.

11. Set a budget and make it fun

Let’s face it: Valentine’s Day can get pricey. Instead of stressing about buying an expensive gift, set a budget with your guy and get creative. For 10 dollars, you could buy a cheesy, V-Day themed stuffed animal, bake cupcakes or, better yet, purchase massage oil to really make his night.

12. Head to Victoria’s Secret

To ensure a smile on his face this V-day, the HC team recommends wearing hot underwear that he has never seen before. Let’s be real, what makes him happier or you feel sexier than a new, lacy bra?

13. Take him down memory lane

Even though Valentine’s Day is about celebrating the moment, there’s no better day to reflect on what makes you so happy with your man in the first place. A great way to celebrate your relationship is to make a scrapbook—look through old pictures, find cute stickers and paper and then channel your inner Warhol. If making a full scrapbook is too time-consuming, make a collage card or mini scrapbook.

14. Splurge on a hotel room

If you are willing to splurge on a gift, why not get away from roommates and sharing twin beds (no matter how much you love sleeping right next to your boyfriend!). Sometimes, the best way to get in the mood is to invest in a change of space. Spend the night ordering room service, cuddling in a big bed and taking bubble baths…what could be better than that?

15. Make a coupon book

It’s true, coupon books are hardly a new concept, but what guy doesn’t want his Valentine’s gift to last all year? Make him a coupon book for things like fresh-baked cupcakes, a movie night or a massage—and feel free to spice it up!

16. Whip up some cocktails

While getting drunk on V-day is probably not the best idea, making Valentine’s Day-themed cocktails with your boyfriend is a fun and festive way to celebrate the day. Make each other drinks post-dinner; after all, ending Valentine’s Day with a homemade Be Mine Mojito doesn’t get much better. If you’re under 21, check out these awesome mocktail recipes

17. Be appreciative

We know we can all get a little carried away with a Valentine’s Day fantasy. But even if you spent the past three weeks dreaming of sailing on a yacht with your boyfriend or opening a Tiffany’s box, be appreciative if he gives you a teddy bear. We're not talking being understanding if he forgets the day altogether, but V-Day can be a little stressful for everyone, so make sure to acknowledge the effort he makes—you'll have more fun, and he’ll be thankful to have such an appreciative girlfriend!

HC Wake-Up Call: One of Trump's Accusers Is Running for Office, House Votes to Overhaul Handling of Sexual Misconduct & SpaceX's Rocket Launch

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

Rachel Crooks, One of Trump's Accusers, Is Running for Office in 2018

Rachel Crooks, one of the 19 women who have accused President Donald Trump of sexual misconduct, announced on Monday that she plans to run for the Ohio state legislature in 2018, the Huffington Post reports. Though she says she never considered running for office prior to Trump's election, Crooks says her experience being forcibly kissed by Trump in a Trump Tower elevator when she was 22, as well as the sexual misconduct experiences of other women whose perpetrators haven't been held accountable by the current system, was what inspired her to run.

"I think my voice should have been heard then, and I’ll still fight for it to be heard now," Crooks said. "Americans are really upset with politics as usual, and I want to be a voice for them."

The House of Representatives Has Voted to Completely Overhaul Its Treatment of Sexual Misconduct Cases

After multiple allegations against many of its members in recent months, as well as revelations that taxpayer dollars were used toward settlements in these cases, the House of Representatives voted on Tuesday to completely overhaul its handling of sexual misconduct cases in the House. The bill passed would completely overhaul the Office of Compliance, which was responsible for many of the secretive settlements, and would require all members of Congress to reimburse taxpayers for any settlements within 90 days. If they refuse to do so, portions of their salaries would be withheld until the settlements were paid off. Among several other provisions, the bill also explicitly prohibits romantic relationships between lawmakers and staffers.

While the bill still has to pass the Senate as well, hopefully, lawmakers can understand that cracking down on sexual misconduct is a bipartisan issue that we can all get behind.

SpaceX Has Successfully Launched the Most Powerful Rocket in Decades

Elon Musk's company SpaceX became the first-ever private company to launch a rocket into space with the launch of its Falcon Heavy on Tuesday, NPR reports. The rocket, which is the newest and most powerful design in decades, was launched as a major step in SpaceX's eventual goal of creating cheap space flight — and ideally one day, a colony on Mars. To make the whole thing even cooler, the rocket has a red Tesla on board, equipped with cameras providing insane views of Earth and Mars.

Selena Gomez Got Candid About Having Depression & Anxiety, A 'Complicated' Relationship With Instagram & More

In 2018, Selena Gomez is taking control of her health.

Looking stunning and rocking blonde hair on the March cover of Harper's Bazaar, Gomez opened up about her struggles with her mental health and Lupus. The star was interviewed by Katherine Langford, the breakout actress of the Gomez-produced Netflix hit, 13 Reasons Why. Langford plays Hannah Baker, a teenager who dies by suicide and leaves behind tapes detailing the reasons she made the decision. The show stirred up some controversy, with people saying that it justified suicide as an answer, while others commended the program for opening up a healthy conversation about mental health.

In addition to her 2017 hits like "Wolves," and "Bad Liar," Gomez was also the most-followed person on Instagram last year. She has a whopping 133 million followers, but her reign on social media isn't all it's cracked up to be.

i stole from my sister

A post shared by Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) on

"I have a complex relationship with Instagram, to say the least. It has given me a voice amid all the noise of people trying to narrate my life for me and allows me to say, 'Hey, I’m gonna post this, and this is gonna take care of the 1,200 stories that people think are interesting but actually aren’t, and aren’t even true.' So it empowers me in that way because it’s my words and my voice and my truth,"  she said in the magazine interview. "The only thing that worries me is how much value people our age place on social media. It’s an incredible platform, but in a lot of ways it’s given young people, myself included, a false representation of what’s important. So, yeah, it’s a complex relationship. Probably one of my most difficult relationships."

When asked if she thinks that 2018 will be a better year for herself than 2017 was, Gomez opened up about her struggles with mental health, giving herself the room to struggle, and putting her own needs first.

"I’m going to say yes because I believe that for myself," she said. "And anyone who knows me knows I will always start with my health and my well-being. I’ve had a lot of issues with depression and anxiety, and I’ve been very vocal about it, but it’s not something I feel I’ll ever overcome. There won’t be a day when I’m like, 'Here I am in a pretty dress—I won!' I think it’s a battle I’m gonna have to face for the rest of my life, and I’m okay with that because I know that I’m choosing myself over anything else."

Gomez continued, "I’m starting my year off with that thought. I want to make sure I’m healthy. If that’s good, everything else will fall into place. I don’t really set goals ’cause I don’t want to be disappointed if I don’t reach them, but I do want to work on my music too. My next album has been forever in the making. When people ask me why, I’m honest about it: It’s because I haven’t been ready. I mean, point-blank, I don’t feel confident enough in where my music is yet. If that takes 10 years, then it takes 10 years. I don’t care. Right now I just want to be super intentional with all of the things I’m doing."

If you're excited for Gomez to release new music this year, though — don't hold your breath.

"My next album has been forever in the making. When people ask me why, I'm honest about it: It's because I haven't been ready. I mean, point-blank, I don't feel confident enough in where my music is yet. If that takes 10 years, then it takes 10 years. I don't care," she says. "Right now I just want to be super intentional with all of the things I'm doing."

Although, a little birdy (AKA the Twitter bird) DID tell us that Gomez and Zayn Malik might be collaborating on a song for the new live-action Aladdin film.

For now, it's good to hear that Gomez is focusing on herself, her health and controlling her own narrative.

Even if you're a celebrity, your parents will still manage to embarrass you — which is worse since, you know, they have way more followers than a typical parent.

So when Jaden Smith's new album Syre reached 100 million streams on Spotify, Will Smith decided to celebrate the accomplishment in the best way possible: by recreating one of Jaden's music videos.

Will posted the hilarious video on Instagram on Tuesday. He even wrote the caption Jaden-style, making sure to capitalize the first letter of every word.

And here's the original for comparison purposes.

It's safe to say Will absolutely nailed it.

STOP EVERYTHING Because Disney Channel Is Developing A Live Action 'Kim Possible' Movie

If you grew up watching Disney Channel in the early 2000s, you probably watched at least one episode of the classic animated series, Kim Possible. For those unfamiliar with the show, Kim Possible was the story of high school student Kim Possible who balanced cheerleading with saving the world. The show, which aired for four seasons and spawned two Disney Channel Original Movies, was a fan -avorite thanks to its wacky supervillains and support of girl power.

Well, fans of the show can rejoice. This morning, the Disney Channel Twitter account made the announcement that there's a live-action movie being made!

The film will be developed by the show's original creators Mark McCorkle and Robert Schooley, and will reportedly be “a Disney Channel Original movie in the vein of Descendants and Adventures in Babysitting.”

The executive vice president for online programming at Disney Channels Worldwide, Adam Bonnett, told Variety about the project.

“Although Kim Possible ‘can do anything,’ kids and tweens found that this animated redhead was just like them. As we embark on the fun challenge of making Kim and Ron fully dimensional, I’m thrilled to be working again with Mark and Bob and to welcome the addition of a dynamic creative team—Josh, Zanne, Adam, and Zach—into a world where anything is indeed possible,” Bonnett said.

There is currently no release date for the film, but I know that many people (myself included) will be eagerly anticipating this new DCOM. Now we just need to know who is going to play Kim Possible!

5 Reasons Women Get Plastic Surgery in Their 20s

$
0
0

Despite the constant controversy surrounding the topic, plastic surgery is very common—even for college-aged women. The decision is personal and there are many legitimate reasons young women choose to go under the knife. According to the 2015 Plastic Surgery Statistic Report by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, women in their 20s had a total of 829,000 cosmetic procedures, with 256,000 being surgical and 572,000 minimally-invasive. Read below for five reasons college-aged women might undergo plastic surgery:

1. A personal insecurity

We are all born the way we are––it’s that simple. There are very few people who would say they are flawless, so genetics are often a major motivator for cosmetic surgery. It’s a personal choice, but there is nothing wrong with wanting to change the way you look by going under the knife.

In 2016, the five most common cosmetic surgeries were breast augmentation, facelift, nose reshaping, liposuction and eyelid surgery. As could be expected, breast augmentation continues to be the top procedure (it has been since 2006). Other noteworthy cosmetic procedures gaining popularity are buttock augmentations, lower body lifts, and breast lifts.

While cosmetic surgery is hugely popular, it can be a problem if a patient doesn’t like anything about herself. Especially in your college years, be wary that the desire to get cosmetic surgery should be to help one or two insecurities and not completely alter your appearance because you hate the way you look. In such cases, you could be at risk for a more serious psychological disorder.

2. Acne scars

Pretty much every collegiette can speak to the negative confidence level associated with bad acne. While most of us can simply wait for a pimple to pass, others are susceptible to to extreme acne scarring.

Accordingly, these collegiettes can (and sometimes do) reach out to plastic surgeons to get such scarring removed or made less noticeable. In fact, scar revision was the fourth most common reconstructive procedure in 2016.

3. Health problems

Often times, young people undergo plastic surgery because it is necessary to fix a physical problem or injury. From eyelid surgery for improved vision, to nasal surgery for better breathing, plastic surgery (even at a young age) can benefit a collegiette’s health.

4. A genetic abnormality or deformity

While physical abnormalities and deformities are rare and wide-ranging [provide examples], sometimes, a young woman may opt to have plastic surgery to “fix” her appearance. This decision should be made by the individual with the abnormality or deformity if she feels that her appearance is having a negative effect on her everyday life.

Related: Breast Reduction Surgery: When Bigger Isn’t Always Better

5. Extreme weight loss

No matter your age, if you lose an extreme amount of weight (especially at a quick pace), you are very likely to have excess skin. Many such individuals will undergo plastic surgery in order to remedy the skin that wouldn’t shrink.

This type of surgery usually leaves the body with intense scars, so it is recommended that an overweight individual who wants to lose weight do so slowly, healthily, and over an extended period of time.

Plastic surgery is most importantly a personal decision. There will always be controversial opinions about the topic, especially for women of a young age, but it is ultimately up to you whether you to go under the knife or not.

Someone Used An *NSYNC Doll To Recreate Justin Timberlake's 'Man of the Woods' Photos & I Have No Words

Justin Timberlake has started February with a bang. Not only did he drop his fifth solo album, Man of the Woods, but he also headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show. And while Timberlake has faced some criticism of his recent professional accomplishments, some media outlets have decided to celebrate Timberlake’s return to relevancy in a more unique way.

In a funny, yet incredibly weird photo shoot, Dan Ozzi of Noisey decided to recreate all of the promotional Man of the Woods photos using a Justin Timberlake *NSYNC doll.

In the photo series, innovatively titled “Justin Timberlake’s Doll of the Woods,” the plastic doll is featured in a variety of scenarios including kneeling in a field and standing among some corn.

As you can imagine, the internet reacted accordingly:

Now, the real question is, who posed better? My money's on the doll.

One of the OG Disney Channel shows had a reunion last night, and the kids are all grown up. Phil of the Future's Raviv Ullman and Aly Michalka, and her sister AJ Michalka, all met up during a party celebrating AMO Ferragamo, Salvatore Ferragamo's new fragrance. Ullman couldn't help but spread the love on his Instagram later that night.

Ullman and Aly co-stared on Phil of the Future from 2004 to 2006 as best friends and eventual couple Phil and Keeley. Aly and her sister AJ Michalka, known as the duo Aly & AJ, also recorded the theme song for the show. The two performed at the event last night.

The Ferragamo event was co-hosted by Suki Waterhouse and held at Elizabeth Taylor's former New York City townhouse. The star-studded event looked glam AF and was attended by many actresses and super models, kicking off New York Fashion week.

Hopefully, there'll be a full cast reunion one day!

Models at New York Fashion Week Will Finally Have Private Dressing Rooms & It's About Time

New York Fashion Week 2018 is finally in reach, and just yesterday the Council of Fashion Designers of America and the Model Alliance announced that starting this year, all models will have access to private dressing room spaces. In a statement, Sara Ziff, founder of the Model Alliance, explained, "Models have raised concerns about invasive photography and lack of privacy while changing clothes backstage at New York Fashion Week. The Model Alliance takes these concerns seriously, and we decided to take additional steps this season to ensure a safe and respectful work environment by providing private changing areas backstage."

This comes as a stark departure from historic runway practice, where models changed out in the open as hair and makeup artists, photographers and other members of the press continually passed through, leaving them totally exposed and feeling uncomfortable to a certain extent. As of now, it is unclear what these new dressing rooms will actually look like, or whether they'll only be implemented at official NYFW shows. That being said, all venues have been invited to adopt these new standards, per the CDFA initiative.

Here's to hoping this new effort will continue to decrease the incidences of sexual harassment and assault in the fashion industry, because 2018 could def use that right about now.

White House Aide Rob Porter Has Resigned After Allegations That He Abused Both His Ex-Wives

White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter announced his resignation on Wednesday, Politico reports, after allegations that he physically and emotionally abused both of his ex-wives surfaced earlier this week.

According to a report from The Daily MailPorter’s first ex-wife, a senior analyst for the U.S. government Colbie Holderness, was married to him for five years. She said “He was never physically abusive until our honeymoon and that floored me.”

The article reported that Porter “choked and punched her during their marriage, breaking down her confidence so badly with his verbal and emotional abuse that she took an extended leave of absence from grad school.” Holderness shared graphic images with The Intercept of herself with a severe black eye and a bruised face from a vacation she took with Porter to Florence, Italy, years ago.

Porter’s second ex-wife, Jennifer Willoughby, a former school teacher and now public speaker and writer, filed a protective order with the court in Alexandria, VA just months after their marriage began because Porter violated their temporary separation agreement, as the New York Times notes. She said that one incident escalated so quickly that she excused herself from an argument to take a shower and in response Porter opened the shower door and dragged her by her shoulders out of the bathroom. She said that once Porter saw her reaction, he released her and apologized. Willoughby told the Daily Mail she felt manipulated throughout their entire marriage.

Both ex-wives of Porter were interviewed by the FBI when Porter was being tapped to serve in the current administration and shared their stories of abuse with agents. The FBI has refused to comment on their process or the interviews they've conducted.

Just days after these allegations were made, Porter (who is currently dating White House Communications Director, Hope Hicks) announced his resignation from the White House Wednesday afternoon. In his public statement regarding his resignation, Porter denied the claims of his ex-wives:  "These outrageous allegations are simply false. I have been transparent and truthful about these vile claims, but I will not further engage publicly with a coordinated smear campaign."

“Rob Porter has been effective in his role as staff secretary," White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Wednesday. "The president and chief of staff have full confidence in his abilities and his performance."

An Ohio High School Has Apologized For Their Students' Racist Chants During A Basketball Game

Given the current political climate where it seems that racists have been emboldened, more outspoken and in many cases unapologetic with their behavior, it's no surprise that a climate of racism and xenophobia is affecting the country's youngest. Instead of H&M making headlines for a new racist apparel design, an Ohio High School is the most recent to make an apology for racist chants students participated in during a basketball game.

According to WLKY, on Tuesday night Elder High School students began shouting racist and homophobic jabs at the opposing school’s, St. Xavier High School, team. At the height of the students’ verbal attacks, Susan Stockman tells WLKY that they shouted “P.F. Chang’s” at her son and ordered him to “go back to China.”

However, this attack wasn’t over, as Splinter adds that the crowd turned their offensive jargon to another St. Xavier player. This time, Bobby Jefferson was a target of their verbal tirade. They yelled that he was on welfare, was illiterate and was on crack.

Since the incident, Elder High School’s principal, Kurt Ruffing, has released a statement which details the school’s apology.

“Most importantly, Elder High School sincerely apologizes for the remarks made by its student section and for the severe lack of respect displayed by its students toward the St. Xavier basketball team, its coaching staff, the opposing student section, and all the fans, family members, and alumni of both schools,” Ruffing wrote.

In the same press release, Ruffing reveals that school officials interrupted the game and reprimanded these students as soon as they recognized this abhorrent behavior. However, Mina Jefferson, Bobby’s mother, tells WCPO Cincinnati that this simply wasn’t the case: “There was absence—a total failure of leadership. None of the adults called it what it was or addressed it in the moment,” Jefferson said.

Jefferson later reveals to WCPO that none of the school’s officials took action until other adults complained about the Elder students’ chants.

“If no one complained, I have to wonder what would have happened,” Jefferson said.

While there seem to be two different stories regarding the action plan, we hope that Elder High School will punish these students appropriately and that nothing like this happens again. (Granted, proper education needs to be instilled in and out of schools to be able to prevent future racist attacks. And yes, verbal harassment is still an attack.)

A CNN Employee Found Department of Homeland Security Documents Dealing With Super Bowl Security On A Commercial Flight

BioWatch, a program under the Department of Homeland Security tasked with running bioterrorism drills and constructing reaction responses, came under fire on Tuesday after a CNN employee en route to a wedding found documents reading “For Official Use Only” and “important for national security” in their seat-back pocket on a commercial flight.

The documents contained accounts from December of last year detailing responses and criticism to drills run last July and November, as Huffington Post noted, that tested authority preparedness for the potential of an anthrax attack at the 2018 Super Bowl in Minneapolis. According to CNN, those with access to the information were under strict instruction to keep the documents private and shred them after use.

Along with the reports, a travel itinerary and boarding pass belonging to Michael V. Walter were also discovered on the plane. Walter, a microbiologist who has managed BioWatch since 2009, declined CNN’s request for a comment.

BioWatch, whose priority is to alert government officials of aerosol detection, has been a target of criticism since its induction in 2003, and this incident is no help. However, even amid a breach of confidentiality, agency spokesman Tyler Q. Houlton told CNN: "This exercise was a resounding success and was not conducted in response to any specific, credible threat of a bioterrorism attack."

CNN complied with the DHS’s plea to withhold publication of their article until after the game, and reportedly agreed to keep certain pieces of information to themselves out of an interest for security at yesterday's game. However, some say the most pressing issue coming from the discovery of the documents is the public’s trust in the government.

"The biggest consequence of this mistake may have less to do with terrorists knowing our vulnerabilities and more to do with confidence in the Department of Homeland Security," Juliette Kayyem, a former DHS employee who now contributes to CNN, said. "In the end, confidence in the federal government at a time of crisis is what the American public deserves."

At Trump’s Request The Pentagon Is Reportedly Planning A Military Parade Modeled After Bastille Day

Pentagon spokesmen Charlie Summers told CNN that President Trump requested a military parade. While the Pentagon has just started planning the parade, they are in the process of making it happen.

The initial meetings to discuss the parade started on January 18, according to The Washington Post. An anonymous military official told the Post, “The marching orders were: I want a parade like the one in France. This is being worked at the highest levels of the military.”

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, White House press secretary, issued a statement after The Washington Post’s initial reports on the parade saying “President Trump is incredibly supportive of America’s great service members who risk their lives every day to keep our country safe. He has asked the Department of Defense to explore a celebration at which all Americans can show their appreciation.”

Many members of Congress came out against the parade. According to NBC, Senator Dick Durbin (D-Il) said that the country should "Take the money that the president would like to spend on this parade [and] instead, let’s make sure our troops are ready for battle and survive it and come home to their families.”

Representative Lee Zeldiin (R-Ny.) said "I don't believe we should have tanks or nuclear weapons going down Pennsylvania Avenue.”

Some members of Congress took to Twitter to express their issues with the parade:

Twitter, in general, had a lot of reactions to the whole idea of this parade:

Will this parade happen? Only time will tell. According to The Post, Trump wants to have the parade on the 4th of July, so we’ll have to wait and see.
