In Happier News, Mila Kunis Is Not Annoyed by Ashton Kutcher or Her Kids

If anyone doubts that true love is real, please direct your attention to the perfect couple that is Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher. Over two years into marriage, the lovebirds continue to live in wedded bliss. Even during the struggles and excitement of parenthood, the happy couple proves that the honeymoon phase of their relationship is far from over.

As Refinery29 reports, Mila just can't get enough of her handsome hubby. "My husband does not annoy me. He really doesn't," she gushed to E! News. "I don't know if this happens later. We've only been married for a handful of years. You know, it's very much in the honeymoon phase of things."

While Mila and Ashton obsess over each other, I can't help but obsess over their rom-com of a love story. They may have only been married a few years, but the friends first, lovers later have known each other for over 20 years. Seriously, God bless That '70s Show for making these random teenagers an on-screen couple. Little did the writers know that they'd be starting an incredible friendship-turned-romance and giving the rest of the world hope for their own real-life fairytales.

And the cuteness continues. "We still really love and like each other daily. We really do. And I know that’s not what people want to hear…I have an unbelievable partner in crime, I really do, and I'm so grateful for it every single day," Mila said.

As much as Mila loves being a wife, it's possible that she loves being a mom even more. The couple are parents to 3-year-old daughter Wyatt and 10-month-old son Dimitri, and their family couldn't be sweeter.

"My 10-month-old, depending if he’s going through a sleep regression, it’s a little rough but doesn’t annoy me. And my 3-year-old doesn’t annoy me yet, either. She’s inquisitive and curious and wants to know about life and things and how everything functions…It’s everything wonderful and beautiful. I’m just not at the annoyed state yet."

But really, is it even possible to be annoyed at your mini-mes?

A Judge Said A 17-Year-Old Was 'Flattered' By Harassment Because She Was 'Overweight'

During a recent sexual assault trial in Quebec, judge Jean-Paul Braun made comments suggesting that a 17-year-old complainant was ‘flattered’ by the attention of her accused sexual assailant, VICE News reports.

In May, Braun found 49-year-old taxi driver Carlo Figaro guilty of sexually assaulting a 17-year old passenger. According to the young woman, Figaro has stopped the car near her house, licked her face and, while she tried to get out and push him away, he touched her breasts and genitals and began to unbutton her shirt. Figaro denied any sexual contact and hasn't yet received a sentence, only an accusation of guilt in May.

Braun’s exact words? “[She’s] a bit overweight, but she has a pretty face.” He went as far as to call the non-consensual sexual contact as “acceptable.”

As for Figaro? "He looks good and doesn't seem his age,” the judge said. “He has nice manners and that he likes to wear cologne: with Versace when he goes out, and with other less-expensive colognes during the week."

Judges are supposed to be impartial, unbiased decision-makers who pursue justice. Braun’s comments did neither. Public officials agree. According to CBC News, Justice Minister Stéphanie Vallée has called these comments "unacceptable." She's also filing a complaint —but that body, Quebec's magistrates council, has declined to comment.

The court is currently debating what qualifies as consent and whether Figaro received consent from the 17 year old. In Canada, the age of consent is 16 years old, raised from 14 in 2006. In the US, many states have an age of consent of 18. Consent culture is anything but simple, and that’s not okay.

With the recent unfolding of Harvey Weinstein’s scandals, sexual harassment has become terrifyingly common and prevalent in our society. It’s on us to end it. This begins with our words (such as #metoo).

...and continues with the language that we use to describe victims of sexual assault. Let’s work to heal, not to wound.

Another Actress Has Come Forward & Alleged That Former President George H.W. Bush Groped Her

In the wake of the explosive accusations of rape and sexual assault against film producer Harvey Weinstein, women are now coming forward to speak out about the sexual assault they endured at the hand of another prominent male figure: former President George H.W. Bush.

Earlier this week, actress Heather Lind came forward in a (now-deleted) Instagram post saying that the former president had sexually assaulted her, Deadspin.com reports. In her post she wrote, "He touched me from behind from his wheelchair with his wife Barbara Bush by his side. He told me a dirty joke. And then, all the while being photographed, touched me again." Unfortunately, the reports of sexual assault don't stop there.

A second woman has now come forward after Lind's story was brought to her attention. Jordana Grolnick, a New York actress, recounted a photo-op with Bush and her cast back in August of 2016 at a Maine production of Hunchback of Notre Dame, where the former president crossed a major line. Grolnick explains that other actors at the time told her before the photo that Bush has a "reputation" for fondling during photos, but she didn't think much of it.

"I guess I was thinking, 'He’s in a wheelchair, what harm could he do?' We all circled around him and Barbara for a photo, and I was right next to him," she says. "He reached his right hand around to my behind, and as we smiled for the photo he asked the group, 'Do you want to know who my favorite magician is?' As I felt his hand dig into my flesh, he said, 'David Cop-a-Feel!'"

At the time, Grolnick says that they all laughed out of discomfort. She then went on to post the photo on Instagram, but not without telling others about the incident. While she says that her father did become angry, she initially almost laughed it off: "I just thought, 'Whatever. He's a dirty old man,'" she says.

However, Grolnick acknowledges that considering recent events, it's now more important than ever to not let situations like these go.

"I don’t want to belittle Heather Lind for feeling violated," says Grolnick. "Now that the #metoo movement has brought this all to light, I think I should have been a little more alarmed to be touched so inappropriately by a man who was once the leader of the free world. He knows the power he has, and the reverence he deserves, even while sitting perhaps somewhat senile in a wheelchair. What I’ve come to realize is that if we tolerate these small comments and grazes from men on the street or former presidents, they might assume that it’s ok with us, and they may take it as permission to do who-knows-what else. I realize that making light of the situation was the wrong move. It wasn’t [okay] for him to do that to me. He wasn’t able to give me a job or a movie deal, so I didn’t feel compromised or pressured to do anything more, but the comments and assumptions about our bodies must stop, at all levels.”

It's absolutely heartbreaking to see more and more women every day coming forward with their own stories of sexual assault. If there's anything even remotely positive that can come from these horrible situations, however, it's that these women can hopefully find strength and solace in each other while encouraging others to feel like they too can come forward with their own experiences.

Kansas State Reps Reportedly Had Interns Serve As Designated Drivers & Didn't Investigate Enough Into Sexual Harassment Allegations

Sexual harassment is increasingly pervasive in our society—from celebrities to taxi drivers to our closest friends. And, of course, even the highest levels of our society aren't immune to this cultural problem because it's also in our state governments (and in our internships.) This is even more apparent as The Kansas City Star recently released an exposé on the sexual harassment of female interns of the Kansas State Capitol, commonly known as the Kansas Statehouse.

According to accounts of the a former legislative staff member recently going on the record, sexual harassment is alive and well at the Kansas Statehouse—from lewd comments to outright demands for sex from Democratic leaders.

Abbie Hodgson, a former chief of staff to House Minority Leader Tom Burroughs, spoke out against the harassment that is occurring. She describes herself as "shocked" when she learned that lawmakers were taking advantage of their interns by using them as designated drivers for social events. An internship, as we all know, is supposed to be an "educational opportunity." According to Hodgson, it turned into "predatory" behavior.

Burroughs responded that "these are issues I take very seriously" and that the practice has been stopped.

For individuals in a position of reporting sexual harassment behavior to their perpetrator, they might find themselves feeling like they have nowhere to go. If you speak out, you might lose your job and your entire career. While growth in some states for reform, both in policy and culture changes, has been promising, there needs to be a cultural shift. Our nation’s leaders are supposed to be our role models. Even if they’re not role models, we need to be able to trust them — and that means we need to commit to holding harassers and abusers accountable.

Mood: These Women Destroying Culturally Appropriative Halloween Costumes

It’s that time of year again. Orange and red leaves everywhere, pumpkin spice everything––and lots of culturally appropriative Halloween costumes! But thanks to it being 2017, everyone is finally getting more woke to the fact that cultural appropriate is wrong, and Teen Vogue is helping the process along. In a recent video, “Cultural Appropriation at Halloween: My Culture Is Not a Costume,” the media brand takes an impactful approach to this evergreen issue.

"One of the things about Hawaiian culture that not a lot of people know is that historically it was illegal to practice anything that had to do with native Hawaiian culture,” Cashman Aiu explains in the video. “My grandmother is currently in her 70s, and she's finally learning how to dance hula. And she's been creating her hula skirt and lei for weeks now, and this is nothing like what it looks like." Generations of Hawaiians have had their culture erased, and plastic skirts and flowers are only continuing that.

We're so overwhelmed that Teen Vogue put out this incredible reminder, and thankful that this video highlights the identities that exist behind the cultures getting stolen. Tbh, our forever mood is badass women taking cultural appropriation down.

So this Halloween, dress up, be funny, and enjoy yourself––just don’t steal someone else's culture.

A Lecturer At Cambridge Spoke Out Against Irresponsible Coverage of Diverse Syllabus Suggestions

One of the wonderful things about freedom of speech is that it gives us the ability to use our voice to be an advocate for change and call out injustices. In the case of Cambridge University senior lecturer Priyamvada Gopal, she used her voice to call out reporters for twisting an open letter written by Lola Olufemi. What started out as an innocent open letter calling for an adjustment in the English literature curriculum at Cambridge to include more black and other ethnically diverse authors resulted in coverage from national publications that painted less than a pretty picture—and Gopal was not about to allow it to go unnoticed.

The open letter, proposed by student Lola Olufemi and signed by 150 supporters, begins with the statement, "The following letter is the result of a meeting that took place amongst students about the need for the faculty to decolonize its reading lists and incorporate postcolonial thought alongside its existing curriculum." The full letter, which can be read in full below, goes on to explain their reasons for requesting a change to the curriculum to include more BME authors.

An innocent reminder of how it all started, here's the original open letter to the Faculty: https://t.co/AImS7uOOvt

— Rianna Croxford (@The_Crox) October 25, 2017

When it comes to the media outlets who chose to initially cover this story, however, their stories conveyed a different idea. The Daily Mail and The Daily Telegraph were soon called out by Gopal, who claims that these outlets "intended to start a racial panic" with their framing of the story, BuzzFeed News reports.

Gopal spoke out in a series of Tweets and talked more with BuzzFeed News, expressing her thoughts on the irresponsible coverage.

"To me, it is actually staggering irresponsibility by the Telegraph and the Daily Mail to take a small-scale matter for the English department to consider and turn it into, what to me looks like incitement to race war," she told BuzzFeed. In one of her Tweets, Gopal urges the idea that this open letter was not something meant to be taken against white male authors.

Rianna Croxford, who was one of the 150 signatures, also spoke with BuzzFeed about the coverage.

"The interference of the media surrounding this issue [is] absurd," she said. "They should have no say in our curriculum—that's for the students and academics."

What started as an exercise of free speech by a student pushing for change in her school's curriculum ended up showcasing irresponsible journalism at its finest.

Chrissy Teigen Laughs Off Snapchat Nip Slip With a Little Help From Her Assistant

Chrissy Teigen has always been open about her life, and last night was no exception. While posting about her spray tan on Snapchat, Chrissy accidently flashed her nipple on camera. Of course, her fans immediately pointed out the inadvertent nip slip, and the Snap was quickly taken down by her assistant.

Teigen, always able to shake off a potentially embarrassing moment, posted a tweet that simply said “Whoops.”

She followed her initial tweet with a mock apology. In a short video, Chrissy said, “I just want to apologize to everyone I know. I’ve let my friends down, I’ve let my family down, I have nipples. It’s not something I’m proud of.”

In my opinion, the best part of this “debacle” is that Chrissy’s assistant quickly texted her, letting her know that she had taken down the revealing Snap. We all need that kind of support from our friends!

12 Must-Have Beauty Products for Oily Skin

When we were in middle school, everyone had oily skin. Like pimples and periods, a greasy face was a rite of passage; we had to endure it in order to truly understand womanhood. But what about those of us that are still plagued by oil slicks on our foreheads well after we finished high school? Well first of all, thank the beauty gods that “dewy” skin is in, but sometimes we just want to feel matte…for once. So we rounded up the best beauty products from the bottom up for those days that our skin feels greasier than the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

Masks

Not only do face masks make us feel incredible, but if you’re using the right one, it can really nourish your skin.

LUSH Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Mask- $9

This fresh mask from Lush includes tea tree oil and garlic as two of its main ingredients, which are both great cleanser. It also contains egg whites to moisturizes and tighten, and honey, which acts as a soother. Yeah, we know. It doesn't smell the best (we've tried it), but your skin will thank you for all of those fresh and natural active ingredients.

Freeman Beauty Cleansing Clay Mask- $7.99

Charcoal is a fan-favorite when it comes to clearing up skin and drawing out oil without leaving us dry and flaky. "I got a Freeman charcoal mask in the Her Campus Survival Kit and it made my skin feel so detoxified and glowy." says Leah, a senior at Temple University. Plus, you just can't beat the price of it.

Boots Botanics Ionic Clay Mask Shine Away- $13

This mask has a negative electrical charge that acts like a magnet to get the oil and impurities out of your pores. In addition to the cool science behind it, this mask also spreads on evenly and doesn’t take forever to dry, making it perfect for busy college students.

Face Washes

The next step is face wash. The key is to be gentle on your skin – excess exfoliation can cause irritation and more oil. Stripping your face of its natural oils isn’t healthy. You should love your oily skin (we know, it’s hard) because it does have benefits, like a stronger defense system. But, if you want to keep it at bay, washing with the right cleanser is a must.

CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser- $9.97

CeraVe uses ceramides, which are lipids (aka oils) found naturally in our skin. Without ceramides, you’re left with dry and irritated skin. "I love CeraVe," says Sarah, a sophomore at Montgomery County Community College, "There aren't super complicated ingredients in it, and it prevents breakouts like crazy!" This gentle cleanser removes any makeup or dirt leftover on your skin and leaves it feeling super clean.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser- $5.99

This classic cleanser includes salicylic acid – a favorite among acne-sufferers because it helps to unclog pores – to treat any breakouts your excess oil is causing you. The fresh grapefruit scent makes us feel even more clean and refreshed long after we’re finished washing our face.

Avène Cleansing Foam- $20

This foaming cleanser is so gentle, it’s like a cloud. Avène uses thermal spring water to infuse your skin with trace minerals that most cleansers don’t provide, plus zinc, which helps to mattify.

Moisturizers

One of the biggest skincare myths is that you shouldn’t moisturize oily skin. If you don’t moisturize, your skin will produce excess oil to make up for what it’s not getting from a lotion. If you choose the right moisturizer, you’ll produce less oil and won’t have to sacrifice soft skin.

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer- $27

Clinique has been around forever, and for good reason. This moisturizer absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave an oily residue behind. "I grew up with my mom using Clinique, and now I use it," says Megan, a junior at Temple University. "Their Dramatically Different skincare line is the best because I have super sensitive and acne-prone skin and it's not too heavy." Since this is a gel, it's not going to feel as thick as a typical moisturizer which is perfect for the ladies with oily skin.

Avène Clean-Ac Hydrating Cream- $23

Like the foaming cleanser, this Avène product also uses thermal spring water. This cream is ultra-hydrating without leaving us looking shiny. And you only need a tiny dollop to moisturize your whole face.

Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturizer- $28.50

Two of the active ingredients in this face cream are ginseng and coffee, which energize the skin and make it glow (not shine –– GLOW). Plus, the lightweight formula is perfect for oily skin and won’t feel heavy.

Foundations

And last but not least, we have some great foundations to really complete your shine-free look. Contrary to popular belief, gals with oilier skin can still use liquid foundation – you just need one that mattifies. Powder is also an option, but no matter what you choose, make sure 'matte' is somewhere on the label. If you need extra coverage, we recommend using both a liquid and a powder and finishing it with a setting spray or powder.

BareMinerals Loose Powder Matte Foundation- $29

BareMinerals is a great makeup brand for any type of skin because all of the ingredients are completely natural. We especially love the matte formula it for shinier skin because you don't need to use a lot for great coverage. With this powder, you can decide how much coverage you want. Plus, it minimizes the appearance of pores and pimples – major bonus.

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte 24HR Foundation- $12.99

L'OReal's matte liquid foundation is one of the best drugstore makeup finds because its lightweight texture feels like a luxury brand on your skin. "L'OReal's Infallible foundation is my go-to, especially since I'm a broke college student," says Ericka, a freshman at Temple University. "It stays on throughout my long days and doesn't leave me looking shiny or ghastly by the time I get home." This foundation is largely water-based, so it won't clog your pores with thick ingredients.

Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Mattifying Foundation- $41

Though it’s a bit more expensive than some of the other mattifying beauty products on the market, this one will last all day. From class, to your internship, to the bar, this product will stay matte without getting cakey or letting shine come through.

Oily skin isn’t always fun, but don’t forget that it has some benefits too. With the help of the right products, you’ll stay hydrated and fresh, while keeping the greasiness at bay. Get glowing, girl!

Joe Biden Teamed With Lady Gaga to Speak Against Sexual Assault in a Sweet Video

My favorite meme star and former Vice President Joe Biden has teased a potential presidential run before, and while it's unclear whether he'll return to a major office someday, it's clear that he is using his voice to promote important causes. The politician recently teamed with Lady Gaga in a joint video message to speak against sexual assault amidst a worldwide rise in conversation about it, ABC News reports.

Appearing together in a video shared on Gaga's Twitter account, the pair produced the PSA as a part of Biden and former President Barack Obama's "It's On Us" campaign, which works toward ending sexual assault on college campuses. The two previously supported this cause together when Biden introduced Gaga's performance of "Till It Happens to You" at the 2016 Academy Awards. The Best Song nominee appeared in the documentary The Hunting Ground, which addressed rape on college campuses.

"I'm here with not only a great friend but a fierce advocate," Biden said of Gaga in the video. "Lady Gaga has been the voice for people who have been forgotten, the people who've been abused, until it happens to you—well, it happened to her, and she's shown enormous courage."

"It's on us, it's on everyone to intervene—to stop abuse when they see it and when they hear about it to intervene," Biden said. "No man has a right to raise a hand to a woman for any reason other than self-defense. Ever. Period."

Gaga also spoke in the message, recognizing male victims of sexual assault and identifying herself as a survivor. "I know the effects, the aftermath, the trauma," she said. "It can be terrifying...but we're here to remind you that it's important to reach out to someone in your life that you can trust, and to know that they will be there to help you; there will be someone to listen. Because you know what? It's on us."

After the video was posted, Biden thanked Gaga for the opportunity on Twitter, writing, "With [Gaga's] leadership, and your help, we can change the culture."

Biden has long been an advocate for ending abuse of women, introducing the Violence Against Women Act as a senator in 1990 and eventually creating the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault in 2014 alongside Obama. This past April, he spoke to male students at George Mason University about respecting sexual consent. The "It's On Us" campaign launched in 2014 and has worked with students on more than 500 campuses.

Blake Lively Revealed How She Makes Her Marriage Work, So Take Note

It's safe to say that we all love Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, right? The couple recently celebrated five years of marriage and have had two daughters together, but their cute signs of affection for each other on social media and in interviews are why I adore them. Given actors' marriage success rates, I'm praying that these two are in a safe little bubble, but Lively recently chatted about the work ethic she and Reynolds stick to, which just may be the secret to their seemingly happy marriage. Thank goodness!

In an interview with PEOPLE, Lively said of their work schedules, "My husband and I don't work at the same time, so we all go together as a family. If we're away as a family, it's never more than for a day. We stay together." How cute is that?

Both Lively and Reynolds have had busy, prosperous careers in the past few years, so it's definitely inspiring to know that they make an effort to travel for work together. Lively also ensures that daughters James and Ines are always close by while she's working. She even told the magazine that she filmed her latest movie, All I See Is You, only four months after one-year-old Ines was born.

"I'm not in an office...so she's either with me or when I'm shooting a scene, she's one room away," Lively said. "If she really needs me, I can pop over there."

She and Reynolds just become more and more lovable as time passes. Props to these two for always putting family first.

I'm Sharing My #MeToo Story of Campus Sexual Harassment

Content warning: Descriptions of sexual harassment and violence

I was nestled into my first midterm season of university in the fall of 2016 when an unwanted conversation with an unfamiliar man changed my life. The weather pelted drops of rain onto the pavement that largely enclosed Simon Fraser University, and I left my dorm room to study. Cracking open my laptop, I placed my book bag on the seat beside me, hoping the attempt to regain space would clear room in my mind for new material.

Amidst the first chapter, a man came and stood beside me, hovering over my bookbag and using the space upon the desk above for his laptop. I glanced over, and then continued highlighting the sentence I was reading. Chairs sat vacant with matching desk spaces throughout the corridor, but he wanted this space. My space.

Reluctantly I pulled my bag up onto the desk, relinquishing the chair as my textbooks spilled onto the table. He tapped my shoulder and I looked up at his mouth, moving without sound. I pulled my earbuds out and he repeated himself.

“Hey, I’m a TA for that class," he said, gesturing towards my intro level communications textbook. Taken aback, I had a flush of embarrassment that It took me so long to move my bag and allow him a seat, as if my unladylike manners would effect my grade.

He began speaking about the material that will be on the midterm, readings from Marshall Mcluhan and various authors we had studied thus far. He asked me my opinions on communist theory, technological surveillance,  and then my name.

He wasn’t my TA, but the TAs shared the marking of midterms and papers for the course. I hadn’t before met the other TA’s. I told him my name and he asked if I lived on campus.

“I lived on campus my first year, too! What building did you get?”

I told him what building I got.

“Oh, my friend had that building. What floor did you get?”

I told him what floor I lived on.

Then he pulled out his laptop. “You don’t have to study, I have the midterm right here,” he said. I declined sharply feeling both guilty and sick, with the fear of academic dishonesty floating above me.

He then went on to describe that he will only show exams and give As to students that provide him with “sexual favors," and that is how his cousin got a good grade in the class—by giving him a blowjob. He made the actions to go with the statement, pretending to give head.

Terrified and shocked by the statement, I thought that this must be some kind of joke. An inappropriate joke but a joke just the same.

He didn’t laugh.

I got up to go and he started to as well. He then told me to wait, that he had to grab something and would be right back, and to just wait. He disappeared down the hallway.

The girl that was sitting next to me looked me in the eyes, eyebrows furrowed with worry, and said, “You need to leave right now.”

I shook as I packed up my things trying to rush before he came back. Through the rain, I ran back to my residence building and tore down my name tag on the door, hoping that he wouldn’t look for me here, hoping that the absence of my name would make me invisible.

Then I opened the Canvas page for the course and scrolled under people. I clicked on the courses TAs.

He wasn’t one of them.

I spent the night alone confused and scared about what happened. Scared about being a woman from a small town, in the city for the first time. About living on my own. About misogyny and inequality. About the power of men.  About the potential of a knock on my door that very night.

But I never heard a knock.

Midterms and finals came and went and a new year marked a new semester; I hadn’t seen the man for the rest of the term. I stood outside of my first tutorial for a new class, listening to music and feeling excited by the potential of a new dynamic and the clarity that came with a fresh start.

That’s when I saw him. The TA man. My mind began to race. Was he my TA for this class? Would he remember me? Would he say something? Would he do something?

He walked straight towards me and I looked away music blasting in my ears. He began speaking to me. I looked straight ahead, hoping that a lack of eye contact will make me invisible.

He became frustrated that I did not acknowledge him after several attempts at conversation. He threw up his hands and angrily muttered words shaking his head as if having a fit, switching between languages and swearing profusely in an expression of his discontent with me.

The class began and I sat between two already taken chairs. He sat across from me. Not as a TA, but as a student, watching me throughout the class. The walls felt as if they were closing in on me and the teacher's words were a jumble in my thoughts of what would happen next. I left class immediately in fear.

It was my nineteenth birthday.

The next week, when it was class, I didn’t go. When the week after came, I knew I had to do something, I was going to lose participation marks by not attending, but I couldn't go back. I emailed my TA explaining what happened and asking to switch class times. She emailed back accommodating my needs, and forwarding the email to my professor, wherein they both apologized for what had happened and urged me to speak with the chief of student conduct about sexual harassment. I felt embarrassed by the words. “Sexual harassment” sounded daunting and serious. I thanked them and attended a new tutorial time.

Days followed without seeing him, until he was all I saw. Every day in the dining hall, which was mandatory for students living on residency, there he was, eating pizza. He had gotten a meal plan. I left whenever he was there, after he had attempted to sit at my table. I opted not to eat. He was ever-present in lecture, interrupting the professor with commentary weekly.

I told a few close friends about what happened and word circulated about similar stories of a student posing as a TA for various subjects and asking for sexual favors for good grades. After hearing multiple stories of this happening with other girls, I decided something had to be done. I dug up the email my professor sent me with the contact info about the student conduct office and I made an appointment.

In the following days, I made my way to the student conduct office. I was nervous and rubbed my sweaty hands on my jeans repeatedly as I waited for her to come out of her office. She greeted me with a pen and paper and asked me to share my story.

I told her everything. When I got to the part where he asked me for my name and where I lived, she scolded me, telling me that what I did was the wrong way to handle the situation. She continued commenting on my story telling me I should have “just walked away," asking if he ever “actually touched me." She barely wrote anything down and finished the meeting by telling me that the incident can not be categorized as sexual harassment, and then wished me a good day and ushered me out of her office.

I closed the door behind me, embarrassed for wasting her time and walked down the AQ as the cold February air stung against my hot tears.

It was Valentine's day.

The following months were the hardest of my life. I told my parents about what happened, and they furiously emailed the school. They researched what the school defines as sexual harassment and I met with more people from the university. Some university workers were furious with what happened and said they would ban him right away, but did not have the authority. Others explained that it is a long process to put sanctions on where in the school he can be, and one told me to get as many girls to email the school with complaints as possible.

I took to the Facebook group INPOWER and shared my story, asking girls who had experienced this particular individual to email their stories. The response was overwhelming. The post got hundreds of comments and likes both of support and of pledges to send in emails.

Within the following days I had the attention of security, after weeks of negotiating. They met me after class and sat down to speak with me. However, they spoke at me instead. I shared portions of my story and included the part about INPOWER.

The head of security told me that the accusations of “hearsay” were useless to my case and harmful to the TA man’s “academic reputation” and told me to tell my friends to stop emailing. These so-called “friends” were girls I had never met before, speaking up for themselves and for each other. Struggling to have a bigger voice for the sake of female rights and campus security. I could not ask them to be silent.

I walked from class back to my residence, afraid, every night after. Coming home from work late one night, I heard someone walking behind me. I felt a ringing in my ears my breathing quickened. The steps got closer to me and I began crying. The figure passed in front of me. It wasn’t him. I cried harder. I was afraid of men everywhere. I hated them. I hated him, I hated the man from security, the men who whistled at me on the street, the men hit on me in the club. I hated the guys that threw frat parties, those who sat beside me on the bus and the guys who I thought were my friends, yet after a few drinks put their arms around me and asked to sleep with me. I hated them all.

Then security team at SFU, without my permission, went on to show the TA man my photo ID and name. The TA man then found me in a computer lab an hour later that was locked and I was the only student in. He tried to speak to me and I ignored him, saved my work and got up to leave, completely unsafe in the space I study, live, sleep and eat. I turned to get my bag and saw written in big letters on the whiteboard “B I T C H."

In the following days, I met with security again, took safe walks to and from my late classes, applied to different universities and lay awake thinking about the gap in inequality between genders. Understanding truly for the first time what it meant to have my voice silenced.

In the end, it wasn’t my story and experiences that caused the individual to permanently be expelled from Simon Fraser University, but that of another girl. I am in my second year at SFU with a renowned hope that it will be the camaraderie and strength of women to stand together against adversity. That it will be the female peers that I am in class with every day who will fight for our right to have a voice against the rigid rules of  patriarchy in society.

My professor who originally emailed me announced the expulsion of the TA man in lecture that week. I sat between students who I thought would never hear this story and blinked back the tears that brimmed my glasses.

It was the first day of a new era.

My name is Claire Patterson, this is my #metoo story. I am no longer afraid. Hear my voice.

Several Women Have Accused Former ABC News Journalist Mark Halperin of Sexual Harassment

Five women have accused veteran journalist Mark Halperin of sexual harassing them while working at ABC News, CNN reports. Working with MSNBC and NBC News as a political analyst before harassment reports broke, Halperin previously served as political director at ABC News and co-authored the 2010 book Game Change, a comprehensive account of the 2008 presidential election.

The anonymous women, four of whom were ABC employees at the time of their experiences, took to CNN to discuss inappropriate encounters with Halperin. At least three women described a clothed Halperin pressing his erection against their bodies without the women's consent. Although Halperin was in charge of determining ABC's political coverage, none of the women worked directly under Halperin. Their experiences mostly occurred in the early 2000s.

"The first meeting I ever had with him was in his office," a woman said about her experience with Halperin during the 2004 presidential campaign cycle. Only 25 years old at the time, she turned to Halperin with a wish to be a traveling campaign reporter for ABC. "He just came up from behind...and [while he was clothed] he pressed his body on mine, his penis, on my shoulder. I was obviously completely shocked...Given I was so young and new I wasn't sure if that was the sort of thing that was expected of you if you wanted something from a male figure in news."

The same woman said that over time, Halperin continued his advances, which she repeatedly turned down.

None of the women reported the incidents once they occurred, citing fear of retribution as the reason for not doing so. Upon the story's release, ABC News said in a statement, "Mark left ABC News over a decade ago, and no complaints were filed during his tenure."

After working at ABC News since the late 1980s, Halperin left the company in 2007 for a position at Time. On Wednesday night, he released a statement explaining his actions, but denied initiating nonconsensual contact with women. "During this period, I did pursue relationships with women that I worked with, including some junior to me," he said. "I now understand from these accounts that my behavior was inappropriate and caused others pain. For that, I am deeply sorry and I apologize. Under the circumstances, I'm going to take a step back from my day-to-day work while I properly deal with this situation."

In wake of the harassment reports, MSNBC has confirmed that Halperin will leave his positions at the NBC network. Penguin Press has also scrapped plans for him to co-write another political book, which would have covered the 2016 election.

The upsetting news follows nearly a month of women in the film, sports and political industries sharing their horrifying experiences of being sexually harassed or assaulted.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

A Third Woman Says That George H.W. Bush Groped Her During a Photo Op

After two actresses came forward about being sexually assaulted by former President George H.W. Bush this week, another woman has shared her experience of Bush inappropriately touching her. In an article she wrote for Slate, author Christina Baker Kline revealed that Bush groped her at a 2014 luncheon prior to her appearance at a Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy fundraiser.

Kline wrote, "When it came time for my husband and me to be photographed with him, President Bush beckoned me close...'You wanna know my favorite book?' he whispered. My husband stood on one side of the wheelchair, and I stood on the other. President Bush put his arm around me, low on my back...'David Cop-a-feel,' he said, and squeezed my butt, hard, just as the photographer snapped the photo."

Kline previously kept the experience secret because she didn't want to look as if she wanted publicity or to harm the literacy foundation, but decided to share after other women went public about similar encounters. "President Bush made clear to me that because I am a woman, I can be objectified, sexualized, reduced to a body part."

Uber Is Adding a Multiple Stops Feature, So Get Ready to *Really* Live

In a move you probably didn't consider until now, Uber has announced a new update that will allow users to add up to three stops to their ride. Users who have the latest version of Uber installed began seeing the feature on Thursday, but the capability will gradually appear on the app worldwide. When inserting a destination into Uber, you'll now see a "+" option, allowing you to add multiple stops and even delete or include locations during your trip. Finally a great solution for getting home after a fun night out with friends!

Taco Bell Is Trying Out a Kit Kat Quesadilla

After debuting the product in Brazil and the United Kingdom, Taco Bell will introduce a Kit Kat quesadilla in Wisconsin to gauge if it would sell well throughout the country. The Kit Kat Chocoladilla will consist of the melted chocolate bars inside a grilled tortilla, and appears alongside the chain's limited offer of vanilla iced coffee. I don't really equate Taco Bell with dessert, but this recipe has intrigued me enough to hope that it may come to other states soon.

I Tried Making a Last Minute Halloween Costume & Here's What Happened

Halloween is less than a week away, and I've realized that I’m slacking on my Halloween festivities — I haven’t carved a pumpkin, I haven’t bought candy for trick-or-treaters and I haven’t found a costume for Halloween yet. Okay, I have Halloween costumes, but I like to keep up with all the trendy costumes.

Although I could just buy a costume, finding a decent costume at the last minute can be incredibly expensive (and annoying). As gal on a college student’s budget, I’m not about to spend $80 on a Wonder Woman costume, even if I really want to treat myself. Instead, I’m going to pray to the Gods of crafting and makeup that I can put together a makeshift costume before Oct. 31. (Which means I just have to channel my inner Chrisspy and Amber Scholl.)

In order to make the timeline more dramatic, I gave myself a day to figure out what I wanted to dress up as and to actually put that costume together. (TBH, the deciding was the most time-consuming part of the process).

Because I’m completely obsessed with Halloween, love a good creepy costume and am obsessed with everything entomology, I finally chose to go as a spider (and her brood). Okay, I was also hella inspired by this arachnid-themed makeup look.

After making the difficult decision of cutting mermaid, snake and Poison Ivy from my potential costumes list, I had to destroy my apartment to find the supplies to become the spider queen that I’m destined to be.

Okay, I didn’t have all the materials necessary just lying around my apartment. I had to buy some fake cobwebs and spiders. Unfortunately, none of the stores around me had generic black fake spiders, so instead I had to settle for a variety pack of spider rings. However, I wasn’t too upset, seeing as they were less than a dollar a bag.

Snipping the ring parts off the purple and black spiders only added a few more minutes to my costume-making countdown. (Seriously, my severely arthritic phalanges were able to cut the rings, so you can too.)

Before I even thought about gluing down my spiders, I thought I'd test out sketching some freehand spider webs onto the dress. So I didn't ruin this super pricey dress (it was $4.95), I turned the bottom of the dress inside-out and practiced my scribbles there. If I screwed up, which, of course, I did, nobody would be able to know... minus everyone who reads this.

Clearly from the streakiness of the white gel pens (not fabric markers), the spider web doodles weren't going to make the cut for this costume. After stress-sobbing over my failed spider web detailing, I remembered that BA spider b*tches don't cry. So I went right back to work.

While I temporarily brooded over my failure, I tried to pick the perf witches’ color scheme for the outfit — purple and black. Then, I put the purple and black spiders wherever I thought looked aesthetically pleasing (because, despite attending illustration classes, I still know nothing about composition). I rearranged my spiders on my t-shirt dress multiple times — with no discernable difference — and took out my trusty E6000 fabric glue and stuck them onto the dress.

If you’ve never used fabric glue before, it’s so much easier than sewing (especially for those of us who are lazy AF). However, there’s still an art to using fabric glue efficiently. For example, refraining from getting it all over your carpet and hands (which I only mastered about a week ago) because it’s pretty toxic stuff. This is why I wear latex gloves while working with it, and it doesn’t hurt that I used nail art stippling tools to “dab” the glue onto my spiders.

Somehow I managed to not leave a trail of glue around me house, make my spider-infested dress and some swanky spider hair clips. *But* I did managed to inadvertently glue thousands of loose cat hairs to the costume.

Yet, I still had the most treacherous task to finish: the makeup.

My skin’s prepared for last 48 hours for this moment, mostly because of the copious amount of moisturizers, serums and face masks I’ve used to ensure my face doesn’t hate me as much after beating it to holy hell Halloween. Though, all my skincare prep is still no match to my probably most definitely expired makeup.

Regardless, Halloween only comes once a year and I’m going to use all my wannabe MUA “skills” to turn into a dang spider. After all, what is a Halloween costume ever complete without three pounds of makeup and the inevitable breakout that follows?

After spending over an hour trying to look like a knockoff Lactrodectus genus member, I said “good enough.”  While my eyes might be a bit lopsided, my chelicerae are on fleek. However, my purple and blue wig and cobweb "hairpiece" really complete this look.

I also decked out my cane in cobwebs and fake spiders, because my arthritis was flaring up. To be fair, my cane is a huge part of my outfits approximately 40 percent of the time — mostly because without my cane or wheelchair I wouldn’t be able to able to show-off my subpar fashionable attire. Therefore, it gets to be an honorary part of my costume. Granted, it would probably help my temperamental joints if I didn’t wear heels, but do as I say not as I do, right?

This left me to finally try on my dress and hope that all my spiders cling to it (which it did, as the pictures prove). Granted, I didn’t wait the recommended seven days for the fabric glue to dry, but it was dry enough for all my spiderlings to survive a costume contest (where I lost to Fashion Nova cat woman costume).

While I’ve made my Halloween costumes every year for the last six years, I’ve usually spent several months in advance strategically researching, prepping and crafting my costumes; this year is different because I’ve finally embraced the overachieving slacker that I am. Honestly, I’m pretty proud of my haphazard costume-making skills. The only thing this Halloween costume is missing is four other appendages. It’s okay though; I’ll just claim that I’m a spider that lost a couple pairs of legs in a fight with a praying mantis.

Although it might not be every college-aged woman's dream to become a spider for Halloween (even if spiders are awesome), hopefully you're inspired by my struggles to make your own last minute Halloween costume. After all, you shouldn't miss out on Halloween just because you don't have a costume. Instead of doning your 5-year-old Snow White dress, make your own personalized costume and reap all the Halloween-themed rewards — like haunted houses and costume parties.

Zendaya Wore an Afro On the Red Carpet For the Best Reason

Zendaya stepped out in style for the Third Annual InStyle Awards no pun intended). Her red carpet ensemble – a layered, multi-colored Schiaparelli gown – looked dazzling paired with bright red Casadei heels.

The most surprising part of her look? Her Angela Davis-inspired afro. The motivation for this show-stopping hair came from a photo taken in her grandmother’s living room in the '60s. The black and white pic captures her father and aunts smiling proudly with their afros quaffed as they attended a Black Panthers meeting.

History provides the best style inspiration, and if you ask me, Zendaya has taken it to the next level. If you've been following her style evolution since her Disney Channel days, you’d know an afro is not out of the ordinary. As she said during her honoree speech, “Continue…to be extraordinary, and brilliant and unique in your own way, because that’s what the world needs right now, is people who exactly who they are. Continue to do you, and don’t let anyone stop that shine."

Bottom line is, she rocks it. We’re stoked to see what other looks she has planned for this season!

A Ten Year-Old Girl Diagnosed With Cerebral Palsy Was Detained By Border Patrol Following Surgery & Could Still Be Deported

Ten-year-old Rosa Maria Hernandez is facing a potential deportation after a Border Patrol mishap on her way to surgery. According to NBC, Hernandez needed emergency gallbladder surgery and was taken to a children’s hospital in Corpus Christi, a town about 150 miles away from the Texas border city of Laredo.

Hernandez, who is undocumented, was brought over to the United States when she was just three months old and lives with her family lived in Laredo, Texas.

Due to the unfortunate and pressing circumstances,Hernandez’s family was forced to go through a Border Patrol checkpoint located in South Texas. Agents reportedly agreed to let Hernandez through but followed her all the way to the hospital.

According to The New York Times, Border Patrol agents followed her to Driscoll Children’s Hospital and waited for her outside of her room. Following her surgery, Hernandez was reportedly taken to a facility in San Antonio where migrant children who arrive alone from South America are kept.

Hernandez’s cousin, Aurora Cantu, who is a United States citizen, told Rosa Maria's mother that the agents tried to convince the family to have Hernandez transferred to a Mexican hospital. The patrols also pressed for the signature of a voluntary departure form.

In an interview, Hernandez’s mother stated that her family moved to Texas in hopes of seeking better treatment for her daughter's Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy is a congenital disorder of movement, muscle tone, or posture. While it cannot be cured, it can be medically treated.

United States Representative Joaquin Castro blames President Trump for the rather harsh policies regarding immigrants. “They're treating her like a hardened convict,” he told ABC 7.

Rosa Maria is reportedly still being held at the facility according to Leticia Gonzalez, an attorney working for the Hernandez family. Gonzalez told NBC News that even if Rosa Maria is released to an approved sponsor, she could still be deported.

"They just refused to allow the child to go home," Gonzalez said.

Kylie Jenner Made $420 Million in 18 Months from Cosmetics Sales, But I Couldn't Even Get Dressed Today

According to US Weekly, Kylie Jenner has already made $420 million in sales from her cosmetic brand over the past 18 months, which just reminds me how broke I am. Apparently, if she keeps at it, she'll have a billion-dollar company in five years!

Just for reference, it took Lancome Cosmetics ~nearly 80 years~ to reach a billion in sales, so, like, this is a huge deal. While Kylie should seriously be proud of her own business ventures, nobody is as proud as her momager, Kris. She told CNBC, “Right now she’s super smart about keeping it all in the business. She owns it 100 percent herself, and she doesn’t have any investors. It makes for a wonderful opportunity to expand.”

Clearly, Kylie has a knack for turning a dime into a hundred dollar bill (not saying that KUWTK is only worth a dime because clearly, it’s worth way more.) “She’s doing this because it’s really her passion. It’s so authentic to who she is because she’s wanted to do this since she was a little girl,” Kris told CNBC.

While some of us might be eager to buy all of the Kylie Cosmetics products because they’re incredibly pigmented and long-lasting, you can't deny the fact that the Kardashian-Jenner brand sells. Nevertheless, it's hard to get mad at the girl for using her name to sell her products since she's fulfilling her childhood dream and stuff. Keep going strong, Kylie.

A Ten-Year-Old Boy Led Ohio State Troopers on High-Speed Chase

Ohio State Police got the workout of a year after chasing a reckless driver on the highway for an hour. The kicker? The driver was only ten years old. According to the Washington Post, Ohio police received a phone call from a distraught mother 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

“My 10-year-old stole his dad’s car, and he’s running from me,” she told the dispatcher.

While waiting for his sister to drop him off to school, the ten-year-old, who remains unnamed, grabbed the keys to his mother’s boyfriend’s car. After realizing what happened, the mother jumped in her car as well and started to follow her son on the busy Ohio highway. According to Cleveland.com, this was the second time within two weeks that the young boy had taken the car out for a joyride.

The chase consisted of the mother chasing her son down West 117th street, then onto Interstate 90 going west. Police intervened in the chase entering at I-80. At that point, the ten-year-old was driving 96 miles per hour. A trooper car pulled up to the boy and motioned for him to stop however the boy just shook his head and continued to drive.

According to Chicago Tribune, the chase concluded when the ten-year-old slowed down and transferred to green, flat strip of land and a trooper bumped the 2004 Toyota Avalon into a milepost sign. The chase ended at around 9:49 a.m. The ten-year-old was taken to a hospital and will be placed into the custody of Erie County Children's Services.
