Beyoncé's Massive Baby Bump Definitely Won Easter

It’s no secret that Beyoncé is all about family life. So it’s no surprise to us that she was celebrating Easter this past weekend with her loved ones. It’s even less of a surprise that she looked absolutely stunning while she was doing it.

Though Beyoncé was unable to make it to Coachella this year (shout-out to Lady Gaga for rocking it in her place), she was definitely having fun this weekend. And of course, there are gorgeous Instagram pics to commemorate the day.

The Grammy winner’s mom, Tina Knowles Lawson, posted a super cute picture with her daughter and former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland. Beyoncé obviously looks amazing in an off-the-shoulder white dress that shows off her baby bump, and the whole group looks thrilled to be spending the day together.

Lawson also posted a video on Instagram of the group’s celebration at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Their friends and family can be seen gathered together, and we even get a quick glimpse of Blue Ivy (looking adorable in pink bunny ears!).

It’s great to see the superstar taking time to be with her loved ones. It’s even better that they’re sharing a piece of that celebration with us.

Summer swimsuit shopping is both a blessing and a curse; on one hand, it means long days spent by the beach or pool are finally here – on the other, with so many killer options to choose from this year, how do you narrow it down to just one? (Because, let’s be honest, that’s about all our bank accounts will allow for.) Luckily, your star sign is here to offer some ideas for what you should wear when you’re ~beach bound~ this summer.

Aries

Jaded London Denim Bow Bandeau Bikini ($107)

Your confident personality means you’re not afraid to take on any trend – including fun, colorful pom pom details that are just as energetic as the Aries girl!

Taurus

Triangl Milly in New York Noir ($89)

It’s no secret that Taurus loves a little luxury in her life. Triangl’s neoprene swimsuits provide the high quality of fabric you expect, and the classic look of this sleek black suit is the timeless piece you need in your life, Taurus!

Gemini

Boohoo Gingham Bardot Bikini ($31.50)

If you’re a Gemini, your friends probably love you for your flirty and outgoing personality – making this ladylike, on-trend gingham off-the-shoulder bikini the perfect pick.

Cancer

Raw Ladder-Cutout Bikini Top ($17.90) and High-Waisted Bikini Bottoms ($15.90)

Cancer is all about a little moodiness, and it’s likely that your style leans a little more on the edgy side. It’s likely that you have tons of black bikinis in your closet already, but the strappy cutouts on this one give your go-to look a fun update.

Leo

Little Mistress Rose Gold Bikini Set ($38)

The Leo girl loves the spotlight – and let’s be honest, is there really anything more attention-grabbing than a metallic rose gold bikini?

Virgo

LA Hearts Sporty Strappy Bralette Bikini Top ($24.95) and LA Hearts Sporty Strappy Bikini Bottom ($19.95)

Take your down-to-earth Virgo sensibility literally with a leaf-print bikini, which gives off that calm and collected vibe you’re always looking to achieve.

Libra

Women’s Embroidered Bralette Bikini Top ($17.99) and Women’s Embroidered Bikini Bottom ($14.99)

As a Libra, your indecisiveness has probably left you torn between trendy pieces and a more classic look when swimsuit shopping. Luckily for you, the statement-making embroidery on this bikini is a major look for this summer, but the bralette shape is classic enough that you won’t shy away.

Scorpio

Women’s Mesh Inset Triangle Bikini Top ($19.99) and Women’s String Bikini Bottom ($14.99)

Mysterious Scorpio is all about looking hot AF on the beach without standing out too much, and a black mesh string bikini with subtle embroidered details nails your look.

Sagittarius

Avocado Print Bralette Bikini Top ($17.90) and Avocado Print Bikini Bottoms ($12.90)

The Sagittarius girl doesn’t take herself too seriously and has a killer sense of humor. An avocado-print bikini? It’s right up your alley.

Capricorn

Onia Devyn Jungle Pattern Bikini Top ($49) and Onia Lily Jungle Pattern Bikini Bottom ($39)

Practical Capricorn prioritizes comfort over everything, and a sporty look like this one gives you both fashion and function.

Aquarius

Triangl Lotte in Bonbon ($79)

A true original, Aquarius isn’t afraid to stand out in the crowd. Floral on top and tie-dye on bottom? Why not?

Pisces

Out From Under High Neck Printed Bikini Top ($45) and Out From Under Strappy Back High Waist Bikini Bottom ($45)

Artistic, creative Pisces likes bright colors and unique silhouettes. Tons of people would shy away from the high-waisted bikini look, but not you!

If you still haven’t found a beach-ready bikini, don’t stress! Your star sign just might make picking one all the easier.

5 Proven Ways to Get Him to Text Back

$

0

In today’s day and age, a simple conversation over text can be the end-all-be-all of a relationship. How crazy is that? Whether you like texting or not, it’s undeniable that it’s a main form of communication. So what happens when the guy you like won’t text back? We’ve talked to collegiettes with experience to let you in on some texting tricks that will have him typing back in no time.

1. Play hard to get

It’s a classic relationship rule: If you make yourself too attainable, the chase isn’t as fun. According to Courtney Martere, a senior at Marist College, playing hard to get has gotten her the most texts back. “Okay, maybe it's not super fun to do this, but I guess it's how the modern dating scene works,” she says. “Wait a little while to answer when he texts you … You may even try ignoring him as a test to see if he'd send that double text through, but it depends how hard you want to play the ‘hard to get’ game.” How long are you willing to wait before you text back? This game may not be for everyone, but if he plays it, so should you.

2. Send pictures/memes/emojis

A classic “what’s up?” text may not be enough nowadays. Ashley Drayton, a graduate of Georgia State University, suggests sending pictures or memes to keep him on his toes. “I would say my experience with this would be if you're having an interesting or funny conversation and he's intrigued, you send him cute/random pictures (of yourself too) or memes, and flirting with him always works,” she says.

Chelsea Jackson, a junior at Iowa State University, has similar advice. “I usually text using GIFs or memes, which tends to get guys to text back. And if they can't hold a full conversation using only meme, then they aren't worth my time.” Amen, sister!

Matt Milich, a senior at the University of Rhode Island, says emojis get him texting back. “If she sends emojis or like smiley faces, it usually means she’s into you.” Send him a GIF from a show you know he likes, a selfie of you at the pool or the heart eyes emoji. It’s hard not to respond to that.

3. Ask questions

Conversations tend to die down when there’s nothing left to talk about (naturally). To avoid that, Courtney suggests to “leave the conversation open with questions or ask him for advice, so if he doesn't respond it's just plain rude.” We love this advice.

Dajin Kim, a sophomore of the University of Texas at Austin, agrees. “I usually ask questions to make sure they know “'m interested in what they're saying! Also, he's just rude if he leaves you hanging on a question, right? If it seems like he's answering very dryly to those then I would stop, but if he seems to be asking questions back and elaborating that's always a good sign.”Ask him what his plans are for the night or what he thinks of something going on — hopefully he’ll start firing questions back at you.

4. Play a game

It may bring you back to your sixth grade days, but playing a game over text can actually be a great way to get him responding and learn more about him. “Playing a game like 20 questions is the perfect way to make sure he texts back,” says Shelby*, a senior at Iona College. “It allows you to learn more about each other and heat things up a little bit, too.” If you hit a lull in the conversation, say something like, “Wanna play 20 questions? Ask me anything.” This will get his mind turning. You’ll definitely lose track of how many you’ve asked, but asking things like, “What’s your favorite sex position?” will have him going crazy.

5. Double text

Sometimes, guys need you to make it extremely obvious that you’re interested in them. And sometimes, people just forget to text back! If it’s been a while and your guy hasn’t responded, text him again. “If you have to go to drastic measures the ‘send multiple texts’ tactic works,” Ashley says. When he sees your name pop up again, you’ll be fresh in his mind.

“If they double text I'll feel bad, so I'll hit her back,” says Drew Dembek, a senior at James Madison University. Just don’t go overboard by sending back-to-back-to-back texts if he doesn’t reply.

Ah, the wonderful world of texting. If you’re finding that your texts aren’t getting replies, try some of these tips. Just remember not to take texting too seriously. Some people just don’t like or “aren’t good at it!” Best of luck, collegiettes!

24 Things Couples Do That Are Annoying AF

$

We love to see our friends in happy and healthy relationships. But, sometimes, couples can be a little too much. Check out some of the most annoying things couples can do- and make sure you and your SO aren’t guilty of  any of these!

1. Playing tonsil hockey in public.

A quick peck is fine, but too much PDA leaves everyone else grossed out.

2. Only hanging out with each other.

Suddenly everyone else is a second priority.

3. Coordinating their outfits together.

Is it really necessary that his tie matches your dress?

4. Asking each other permission before you do everything.

They pretty much become the same person.

5. Using “we” instead of “I”.

This is when you know it’s getting bad.

6. Going everywhere with each other.

Suddenly girls night became girls night plus one.

7. Ignoring everyone else to respond to their text.

There are other people in your life other than your SO!

8. Talking about their future babies.

This just makes everyone around you very uncomfortable.

9. Feeding each other.

TBH, this is just not cute. At all.

10. Comparing themselves to celebrity couples.

We get it—you really want to be like Beyoncé and Jay-Z!

11. Sharing a desk in the library together (while cuddling).

How do you even get any studying done?

12. Trying to get their friends to go on double dates with them.

They’ll find you a date if you don’t have one!

13. Using every conversation to talk about each other.

Their “how we met” story is their favorite one to re-tell.

14. Bragging about each other all over social media.

We get it—you guys are totally in love! But you don’t need to constantly remind us on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Insta.

15. Making every argument seem like the end of the world.

There’s enough drama to fuel a season of Keeping up with the Kardashians.

16. Finishing each other’s sentences.

This can be adorable at first, but then it just gets annoying.

17. Always having to go shopping with each other.

You should wear what you want, not what you SO wants.

18. Ditching their friends to hang out with each other.

Not cool, guys, not cool.

19. Telling their single friends they’ll find someone eventually, too.

Have you ever thought maybe they’re not looking for someone?

20. Only referring to each other with pet names.

“Babe," “love”, and “honey bunny” become synonymous for the real person’s name.

21. Fighting in front of friends.

This just puts everybody in an awkward positions.

22. Constantly talking about their sex lives.

Suddenly you know all the good and bad of their sexscapades.

23. Telling all their friends' secrets to each other.

That’s a big no-no.

24. Always referencing inside jokes no one else understands.

Let everyone in on the joke please!

Don’t be an annoying AF couple, so please refrain from doing any of these! We love that you found someone you love, but sometimes you’ve just got to tone it down a notch (or two).

4 Ways Your Relationship With Your Parents Changes After College

$

0

Living the college life of being young, wild and free definitely has its advantages and disadvantages. Whether you moved on campus, out of state, got your own place or decided to stay at home, there’s a huge transition from being in college to entering the adult life after graduation.

One big difference being the relationship you have with your parents. A lot of changes can happen after college graduation, and the relationship you have with your parents could be affected. Many factors in life can affect if your relationship changes for the better or worse. Here are a few examples of how life after college can bring you closer or bring distance in your relationship with your parents.

1. You’re forced to move back home

Moving is arguably the biggest change after college graduation that could be helpful or hurt the relationship with your parents. Whether you decide to move back home or move away, these conversations could be positive or negative. Some parents are happy to assist their new college graduate by letting them move back home. Finding a job that will be enough to support having your own place is very hard in today’s economy, so moving back home to save is a great way to keep the relationship close. Have a positive and responsible conversation with your parents about moving back home, and set any boundaries that will make it comfortable for the both of you.

Moving back home can also have negative effects on your relationship with your parents. The transition of having the freedom to do what you want in college to having rules again could be hindered once you’re back under your parents’ roof. Arguments and misunderstandings are quite likely to happen if an initial conversation was not had, or if moving back home wasn’t fully accepted. “I went away for college, and when I came back my relationship with my mother was very distant,” says Tabia Robinson, current graduate student of CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. “I was so used to being on my own, being by myself, and taking care of myself, and I think my mother felt like I didn’t need her anymore. Going back to living under her rules is kind of annoying and I’m taking necessary steps to move out and be on my own again.” Moving back home is definitely a big transition and sometimes really uncomfortable, but use this time to be productive, save money, and try to keep the peace with your parents in the meantime.

2. There’s physical distance between you

For some graduates, moving away and not going back home could affect the relationship as well. In some situations, the phrase “absence makes the heart grow fonder” turns out to be true and could help create a different type of relationship with your parents than if you were closer in distance. Abbey Williams, student from University of Wyoming says, “When I visit them I can hang out with them all day long and catch up, and they remind me that they're always around and they care. After leaving and not getting to see them very often, it's so nice to know I have two built-in best friends for life whenever things get rough and I have no one to turn to.” Having physical distance between does not have to be a bad thing, it can help you to build a long distance relationship that is strong, supportive, and even become a lot closer. Your parents will see  that you can take care of yourself and be a responsible young adult.

3.  You depend on them financially again

Along with moving, going back home because of certain financial reasons also has its positives and negatives. Parents understand that being on your own right after college is hard, and you may not get that amazing, full-time position right away. Most college graduates stay at home because they can’t afford to pay rent just yet, and having that safety net helps ease the stress of adulthood a little. However, issues come about when parents can’t assist as much as time goes on, there’s a time limit on how long you’re able to stay at home before you have to move out, or achieving financial stability takes longer than expected. Communicating with your parents on how you can return the favor while they are assisting you financially will help your parents and the relationship.

4. You become closer or grow distant

You will finally have more time to do things you’ve always wanted to do and spend time with friends and family after you graduate. Some will use this time be physically closer to their parents, while others will move away but still maintain a healthy relationship with each other.

Lauren, a graduate of Marymount University, says, “I graduated in Spring of 2016 and have been living with my parents since August 2016. I thought I was going to take a job in downtown DC, but the job got moved closer to my parents' home. After I graduated, I kept my apartment in Arlington but after the loss of both of my grandfathers, I was still reeling from that happened to me in my last semester, I decided to go home one day and I never left. My mother welcomed me with open arms and we have never been closer.”

While some parents would like to see their child more often after college by having them move back home or being in the same city or state, being physically apart does not have to have a negative effect on the relationship. It could actually help the relationship between you and your parents and bring you all closer because it will allow you to talk more often. A lot happens after you take off the cap and gown and replace it with your brand new business casual wardrobe, but it doesn’t all have to be negative or stressful. Sometimes your parents will be your number one supporters, and yes, things will change within the relationship, but they are still there to help you. Keeping the communication open, honest and respectful will help solve any problems that will come along after college.

You Only Have 5 Days To Get the Extremely Real Unicorn Frappuccino

Last week, the internet freaked out over rumors that Starbucks would be releasing a Unicorn Frappuccino. And now, we know those rumors are true! Starting Wednesday, April 19, you’ll be able to get one of these mythical concoctions at Starbucks stores around North America—but only for five days. The unicorn frapp will fade into legend status once again on April 23.

The drink is a creme frappuccino base with sweet pink powder, mango syrup and sour blue drizzle. According to Starbucks, it also changes color from purple to pink when stirred, and changes flavor from “sweet and fruity” to “tangy and tart.” Is this the taste of unicorn essence, or just Fun Dip in blended beverage form? Either way, the taste of the unicorn frappuccino is secondary—it’s really all about how it looks on your Insta feed, right?

Here's Every Hair Color Kylie Jenner Has Ever Worn

The chameleon of the celeb world, Kylie Jenner, loves to change her aesthetic on the daily, and yes, that includes her hair. If you've ever wanted to know just how many colors the youngest Jenner has worn, sit back and take a scroll through our all-inclusive list of Kylie's Many Kolors, in no particular order.

1. Black

Of course, black is Kylie's natural shade, like the rest of the Kardashian clan.

2. Subtle Ombré

This discreet lob is one of my fave looks, and Kylie kills it.

3. Blonde

First debuting the shade in 2015, Kylie has revisited the blonde life several times.

4. White

Leave it to Kylie to go blonder than blonde.

5. Turquoise Ombré

One of the hairstyles that sparked Kylie's obsession with hair dye and wigs was this chic feathered bob with turquoise tips.

6. Black & White

Kylie took to Coachella 2015 with hair seemingly inspired by none other than Cruella DeVille.

7. Green

This striking color wasn't worn for very long, probably to make way for the next shade...

8. Mint Green

Her favorite shade ever, Kylie debuted this one at NYFW 2015.

9. Red Tips

Chances are you also sported this ~edgy~ look in middle school.

10. Red

This look came one day before her 19th birthday. Treat yo' self, Kylie.

11. Pink

Yet another look that began at Coachella, pink became a go-to color for a while there.

12. Rose Gold

Clearly influenced by Pantone's 2016 Color of the Year (i.e. Rose Quartz), Kylie went super trendy with this soft rose gold color.

13. Frosted Blue

One of my favorite shades Kylie's tried by far.

14. Marine Blue

This cerulean wig definitely had a moment with that denim jacket and grungy pout.

15. Blue Streaks

This look is admittedly not Kylie's best, and was accordingly pretty short-lived.

16. Gray

A bit more subtle for Kylie, but this pic is from 2014, so.

17. Peach

For her pop-up shop in NYC, Jenner treated her fans to a lovely take on the recent "blorange" trend.

18. Auburn

It's not a big change, but it's a change!

19. Navy

Kylie's take on the galaxy craze of last year?

20. Highlighter Green

Kylie kicked off Coachella 2017 with this neon wig created by Tokyo Stylez using MANIC PANIC semi-permanent dyes.

21. Purple

And the very next day, she switched it up in favor of a bright purple. Lookin' good, Kylie!

22. Rainbow

This rainbow hair from 2016 is proof that Kylie's best hair moments always happen at Coachella.

7 Sophisticated Takes on Denim Cutoffs

As school winds down and the temperature goes up, college women everywhere are pulling out their favorite shorts to cool off. Summer is all about being laid back and carefree, and your style should reflect that. But that doesn’t mean you want to look sloppy when you’re hanging out with your girlfriends or grabbing lunch at your favorite outdoor café. The solution? Take your old school denim cutoffs and make them the classiest fix to your summer outfit woes.

Summer of Love

Summer of Love

If you want to channel the trendy festival vibes that are popular this summer, the key is to balance out a flowy peasant top with a longer denim short for a more tailored and mature look. Leather accessories like a statement crossbody bag and strappy sandals will still let your free spirit soar but won’t make you look like you did all of your shopping at a Coachella lost-and-found.

Bright Babe

Tailored Denim

Ditch your standard blue jeans for some untraditional denim! Colored shorts can serve as the centerpiece of your outfit and will make your outfit appear more thought out than it actually was. Pair these with your favorite white V-neck tee and simple jewelry, while dressing the look up with a pair of wedges.

Related: 5 Cute Ways to Style Denim Shorts

Cool & Classic

Cool and Classic

A classic set of denim cutoffs will have you on the road to a timeless French-girl look as you pair your shorts with a black and white striped T-shirt and red TOMS. A dash of color in the shoe department will take this neutral outfit from “meh” to “oui, oui.” Hit the town in this outfit by pairing it with a dressy black clutch to stash your cash, phone and other essentials, or use to dodge the pretend paparazzi. Your call!

Street Style Star

Street Style Star

Take notes from runway models and fashion moguls with a chic white button-up blouse. Not only will this item withstand the seasons, it is bound to make any outfit almost (almost!) workplace-ready. Since you'll probably take this outfit to brunch and not the cubicle, give this otherwise neutral outfit a pop of color and bling with a statement necklace. Add texture by finishing the outfit off with preforated slip-on sneakers.

An Overall Win

overall success

Summer fashion may have some people wearing a rainbow of colors everywhere they go, but for you cool girls who hate to stray away from black, this outfit is for you. Go against the grain and rock denim shorts of the overall variety. Hit this look out of the park with a baseball T-shirt underneath, a cut-out bootie to give you some height and your favorite black leather bag.

Pastel Princess

sorbet

Rejoice in the fact that your outfit choices are no longer made up of winter's dark color palette by celebrating with a sorbet ensemble! Mint green shorts are sure to get you noticed at the ice-cream shop or on the beach, while a nice pair of cat-eyed sunglasses will have you mistaken for Sandy from Grease. Add a fancy lace tank top to balance out the casual bottoms, and polish off the outfit with a light-colored sneaker to give you complete mobility for bike-riding or bonfire-dwelling.

Red-y for Date Night

date night

Comfort is key when you score a date. Trade in your denim roll-up shorts for a nice scalloped pair to add a different edge to your outfit and still feel like you're wearing your favorite shorts. These shorts can be dressed up or down, but why not go all out? An off-the-shoulder red blouse, wedges and simple gold jewelry will show your fun and flirty side without going overboard. The loose top is dressed up, yet provides a relaxed feel that a crop top can't provide, and the wedges will make sure you strut with confidence.

Just say “no” to standard denim looks this summer. Ditch the flip-flops and dirty T-shirts for more tailored, classic items that give your cutoffs a vintage vibe, and not a sloppy one. No matter what you wear, make sure you keep cool in the summer heat!

Harry Styles Is Not About Throwing Shade At Taylor Swift Or Zayn Malik

Harry Styles is all grown up and proving his maturity in a solo interview with Rolling Stone. Asked about his ex Taylor Swift and drama with ex-bandmate Zayn Malik, Harry kept his cool and didn't throw a bit of shade.

Harry and Taylor's whirlwind romance happened when he was just 18, and as anybody who’s listened to “Style” knows, it didn’t end well. Fortunately, though, they kept the breakup friendly, and Harry didn't use their relationship for any further attention. (Looking at you, Calvin Harris.)

“Relationships are hard at any age,” Harry told Rolling Stone. “And adding in that you don't really understand exactly how it works when you're 18, trying to navigate all that stuff didn't make it easier. I mean, you're a little bit awkward to begin with. You're on a date with someone you really like. It should be that simple, right? It was a learning experience for sure. But at the heart of it—I just wanted it to be a normal date.”

Harry had equally nice things to say about Zayn, despite some of the harsh words Malik has said about his former boy band. "I never wish anything but luck to anyone doing what they love," he explained. "If you're not enjoying something and need to do something else, you absolutely should do that. I'm glad he's doing what he likes, and good luck to him."

Harry’s solo album will be released next month. And from what I can tell, it will be free of bad blood.

Snapchat's Introducing a New 3D Feature To Compete With Facebook & Instagram

$

0

Snapchat released a new feature Tuesday that will let users put 3D cartoon objects in their photos, The New York Times reports. They're called "world lenses," according to The Verge. One of the reasons for this new feature is to stay a step ahead of Facebook, which has recently introduced a story feature similar to those available on Snapchat and Instagram.

The feature is similar to Pokemon Go—putting a 3D image over a real-world picture so it looks like it's part of the landscape. When you're using the rear-facing camera on Snapchat, just tap the screen to start using these 3D images. You can add things like the word "OMG," a rainbow, a popsicle kissing face, or a coffee mug. Above, you can see the coffee mug hanging out in the Her Campus offices.

The Times notes that Snapchat's under a lot of pressure to come up with cool new features like this, especially because they've gone public with their stock. Snapchat is only valuable if it's unique, and lately you may have noticed that platforms like Instagram and Facebook have been copying Snapchat's model. It seems that almost every social media app you see now gives you the ability to post "stories," a feature that was once only on Snapchat. Their other well-known feature, images that disappear, is also being used by Instagram and Facebook now as well.

Amber Rose Is Releasing an Ombré Lip Kit & It's Gorgeous

Why get Kylie's Lip Kits when you can get Amber Rose's for $5 less?

The rapper and model launched four shades of Lip Kits with Flirt Cosmetics and they're actually so different from Kylie Cosmetics' in that they are ombré. As in, the lip liner is a slightly darker shade than the gloss. So you sculpt with matte, creamy liner and then blend in the shiny gloss for a more dimensional look.

Though the ombré effect isn't super noticeable in these photos, the idea of creating more shading and gradient sounds like it would make lips look fuller. Strangely, the lip liner isn't a pencil but a cone-shaped lipstick called a Lip Kajal, which twists up. And apparently the gloss is also different–it's not sticky but actually moisturizing, unlike Kylie's matte liquid lipstick. Honestly it keeps sounding better and better.

You can choose between a nude, a pink, a purple and a red for $24 per kit. Following in Kylie's footsteps, Amber Rose gave her Lip Kits spunky names: "No Shame,""Neo-Femme,""Meme Lover" and "Slay All Day." Not sure what a meme lover shade is, but I'm down to try it.

On top of her new entrepreneurship, Amber Rose has been in the news in the past few months for standing up against slut-shaming and body-shaming, for being totally supportive of Hiddleswift (#throwback) and for appearing in Kanye West's music video. Sounds like ya girl has a lot going on rn.

With Mental Health Awareness Month coming up in May, Lady Gaga and Prince William teamed up to talk about mental health on Facebook Live. The royal FaceTimed the queen (of pop) to talk about the conscious efforts his family has been making to spread the word about mental health struggles.

Mental health is a topic both the royal family and Gaga have been open about. Prince Harry recently discussed how he went to the therapy to deal with the grief caused by his mother's death. Lady Gaga has been battling PTSD since she was 19, and talking about mental health has become a large part of her platform.

In the video, Gaga and Prince William discuss ending the stigma that surrounds mental health disorders. "We have to make the strongest, most relentless attempt we can to normalize mental health issues so that people feel like they can come forward," Gaga says. I'll second that!

I Have Herpes, & I Don't Think It Deserves the Stigma

The opinions expressed in this article are the author's own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus.

You would never look at me and think I have an untreatable STD. You probably wouldn't consider it if you knew me, or even if you knew my sexual history. It's clear that people don't think that of me, when they joke about "herpe-gono-syphilis" and other STDs, in front of me—and why would they think that, when I laugh along with them? But if you had one too, you would know that there's no personality trait, set of morals, or physical attribute that makes any set of people more or less likely to contract an STD. Any person who has been in bed with another person in any circumstance has rolled the dice.

If you asked me, I'd tell you I have herpes.

I was five months into my now-two and a half-year relationship when I first showed symptoms of herpes. It started as little red bumps on my thighs that a few doctors misdiagnosed. When I experienced my first flare-up, I thought I'd developed your standard yeast infection. The unsympathetic, older man with an accent, who was my doctor at the clinic, tossed around the word herpes like it was just a head cold, as he gave me my very first (and quite aggressive) pap smear, and I cried on the table as the nurse held my hand.

My initial reaction was to think my boyfriend had cheated on me to contract herpes and spread it to me, since we had been together for a few months before I appeared to have caught it.  That was before learning that not everyone who has herpes ever actually shows any symptoms, and that occasionally symptoms don't start for a while, contrary to what most information packets tell you. As it turned out, my boyfriend didn't even have herpes and I had contracted HSV 2 (commonly known as the oral strain) through oral sex, the one time I decided to try taking part in the college hookup culture before meeting him

It was hard for me to come to terms with my diagnosis. It made me feel dirty and unworthy at first, because that's how society sees sexually transmitted diseases of any kind. I worried that I would never find another partner if I ever went back out into the dating world, and that no one would ever see past it; I worried that I wouldn't even be able to create children some day without spreading this horrible thing called herpes to my husband.  But those thoughts and feelings were all based on what society had taught me about the disease.

So I did my research. For most carriers, outbreaks are most frequent within the first year, and subsequently become significantly less recurrent and milder. Additionally, once you have a prescription from your doctor, you can begin taking the medication as soon as symptoms begin, and nip it in the bud, so to speak. You're much less likely to spread it if you're not currently experiencing a breakout (but it is definitely still possible), and after talking to your doctor, you can take a small dose of the medication daily to help further prevent spreading it to another person. Using condoms is definitely still a great idea to avoid spreading and for a multitude of other reasons, but if you have herpes, hope is not lost for you to ever receive oral again [in the case of the oral strain], or to decide with your partner to have unprotected sex someday, without necessarily spreading it.

For me, the worst part of having herpes is just having it. I'm afraid of having to tell a guy that I'm really into, "hey by the way, I have herpes and I hope you'll still sleep with me," obviously.  But since the first year, I've only had two breakouts, which have both been mild at worst. If dealing with the stigma is worse than the pain or discomfort brought upon by herpes, than maybe there shouldn't be a stigma about it at all.

Here are some things I've learned since my diagnosis:

  • Tell any sexual partner IN ADVANCE about your condition (this includes any act where your infected area is in contact with their genitals and/or mouth!)
  • Be careful. Use condoms. Don't be sexually active during a breakout (it would probably be uncomfortable anyway); wait until it is completely gone and refrain if you feel like you might have a breakout coming on.
  • Educate yourself, educate potential partners/hookups. If you do that confidently and use protection, they will most likely be cool about it.
  • Remember how common herpes actually is, and that nearly anyone could be in your shoes.
  • Do not let this disease or what anyone says about it make you feel like less of a person. You are still amazing in a million ways, and this does not define you.

Editor's note: make sure to seek out professional help if you experience any symptoms of genital or oral herpes

Fifth Harmony's Normani Kordei Details the Online Hate She Endured After Her Words Were Misinterpreted

Cyberbullying is no joke, and it can come in droves when you have millions of followers like Fifth Harmony's Normani Kordei. Combatting hate on the internet is not an easy task; Normani knows this firsthand because it caused her to quit Twitter last year.

The cyberbullying stemmed from a comment Normani made about Camila Cabello that was interpreted as shade-throwing, causing chaos on Twitter. Now Kordei is opening up about the pain it caused her.

“I was on tour when it happened, and that made it even worse because I was away from home,” Kordei told Refinery29. “It was a really hard time. Being on the road, having to do meet-and-greets, having to do shows, pretending like nothing was wrong when it was such a devastating time for me. It was really toxic for me. I would literally go online and see racial comments about myself, and images of me being edited [to show people] trying to harm me and hurt me in terrible ways. It was really ugly.”

Kordei mentioned that she almost left the tour because the hate left her feeling depressed. She ended up taking a break from Twitter for two months to cope and feel better again. “All I wanted to do was feel safe, go crawl in my bed and be in my house with people that genuinely know my heart.”

Normani also talked about how social media is an easy space for hate to take over. She thinks we should instead be focused on using these platforms to educate each other. “Use that [social media] for good, as opposed to abusing it and taking it for granted—making it an ugly thing, an ugly experience for everybody,” she said.

Of course, because the singer is such a powerful human being, she used the entire experience to remind herself of her own worth and become stronger. “Don’t start believing what people are telling you,” she said. “It took me a while [to learn how to do that]. Ultimately, I came out even stronger. I’m sad it had to happen that way in order for me to be as strong as I am now.”

What a badass. Don’t let the haters stop your shine, girl.

Suspect in Facebook Live Murder Kills Himself After Manhunt

Steve Stephens, the man who recently posted a video on Facebook of himself killing another man, has killed himself, CNN reports. Stephens' crime has sparked a heated discussion about how Facebook polices violent or dangerous content posted to its platform.

On Tuesday, police were called when someone saw Stephens' car in a McDonald's parking lot near Erie, Penn. Pennsylvania officers began a short car chase, but Stephens shot himself before he could be apprehended, according to CNN.

Workers at the McDonald's had recognized Stephens' face and had tried to hold him there by delaying giving him his order of fries, The New York Times reports. The plan didn't work though, as Stephens drove off while one of the workers was calling the police.

Authorities have been searching for Stephens for the last two days, after he murdered 74-year-old Robert Godwin, a grandfather, and posted a video of the killing on Facebook. Goodwin was shot while walking home on Easter, and it seems that Stephens chose him at random as a target. Stephens told his mother that he was going to kill people because he was unhappy with his girlfriend.

Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams commented on the issue, saying that while police are grateful the search for Stephens has ended, "We would prefer that it had not ended this way because there are a lot of questions, I'm sure, that not only the family but the city in general would have had for Steve."

Goodwin's children say they forgive their father's killer, noting that Goodwin had taught them to love God and forgive.

Did Trump Really Sign a Guy's Hat & Then Throw It Into the Crowd?

Fear not, Internet. The young Trump supporter who asked for the president to sign his hat did indeed get it back. A video recently went viral seemingly depicting Trump signing a “Make America Great Again” hat at the White House Easter Egg Roll and tossing it into a crowd, instead of to the original owner.

In the video posted by Politico, an audible “No!” is heard from the young man as Trump apparently throws out his hat to the audience of supporters. However, another video from a different angle shows the original owner did in fact catch the hat he momentarily feared would be lost forever, and Trump was only psyching the fan out.

Naturally the Internet had all sorts of reactions to both videos.

Looks like it was just an attempt at light-heartedness from Trump as the momentous 100-days-in-office milestone approaches.

What to Do If You Have Body Dysmorphic Disorder

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a serious psychological condition that is related to obsessive-compulsive disorders. This of course doesn’t mean that living a wonderful, healthy life while having BDD is impossible. There are actionable steps that you can take and a variety of treatments that you can try!

There are also other people who have gone through or are going through the same thing—you’re not alone! We gathered the personal experiences of some collegiettes and reached out to a few experts for their professional takes on dealing with BDD, in the hopes of providing those dealing with the same thing with some resources and a source of comfort. Read on for a series of solutions if you think you have body dysmorphic disorder.

1. Identify the symptoms

BDD differs from eating disorders in that individuals with BDD experience persistent, intrusive and distressing thoughts about their physical appearance to the point of being convinced that their appearance looks differently than it actually does. “Many people are unhappy with an aspect of their appearance or the way they look,” says Dr. Talia Wiesel, PhD, assistant professor of psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital’s Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders Program. BDD goes beyond more commonplace insecurities and can pertain to very particular physical attributes including one’s forehead, chin and hair, to name a few.

BDD has a significant, constant impact on the way individuals go about their day-to-day lives. “If the degree of time and energy thinking about the body part(s) and engaging in ritualistic behavior (seeking reassurance about appearance-related concerns, mirror checking, etc.) interferes with a person’s daily functioning and causes significant emotional distress, this could indicate someone is suffering with BDD,” Dr. Wiesel says.

“Two experiences stand out to me as being hard to deal with: getting dressed in the morning and going shopping,” says Ayla, a junior at the University of Notre Dame.* “When I looked in the mirror I would always pull at my thighs and look at my stomach at all angles.”

For Ayla, the defining factor of her BDD was that she had contradicting feelings about her appearance. “I knew how much I weighed, because I was obsessed with the scale, and logically knew I was super underweight, but I never thought I looked skinny, even when I manipulated my body,” Ayla says.

These phenomena are common for individuals with BDD. “Frequent behaviors relating to this can include skin picking, mirror checking, and camouflaging, such as with makeup or a hat,” says Dr. Roy M. Stefanik, D.O., a psychiatrist at Fairfax Mental Health. “In other cases they turn up at a plastic surgeon’s office with the hope that somehow having cosmetic surgery will fix the problem, while in fact for people who have BDD, surgery tends to make the problem worse.”

2. Get a diagnosis

Especially given the fact that BDD can be hard to distinguish from an eating disorder, it’s important that you get a professional opinion. There are doctors who specialize in this disorder, and they want to help you identify BDD and come up with a personalized plan to treat it!

“I've been in and out of therapy for years [but] I wasn't diagnosed with body dysmorphic disorder until I was just at a normal doctor's office,” Ayla says. “I was pretty anorexic at the time and the number on the scale was really low, but she said the way I was talking about my body just did not add up.”

You should speak to a psychiatrist, psychologist or other expert in obsessive-compulsive disorders if you think you may have BDD. “BDD is often unrecognized and undiagnosed in the general population; studies have shown a rate of 4-5% in college students,” Dr. Wiesel says. There’s nothing wrong with letting a professional know that you are concerned you have BDD; they might not otherwise be on the lookout for symptoms that confirm your suspicions.

3. Consider your treatment options

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) will likely be the means of treatment recommended by your doctor. “[CBT] focuses on helping you learn how negative thoughts, emotional reactions and behaviors contributes to problems over time, and how to challenge automatic negative thoughts about your body image, as well as learning more flexible and realistic ways of thinking,” Dr. Stefanik says.

You and your therapist can work together to determine your most effective treatment using CBT. “The therapist and individual work together to recognize and challenge thoughts and behavior patterns linked to his/her BDD symptoms,” Dr. Wiesel says. “Individuals learn strategies to help decrease avoidance (e.g. avoiding social events) and compulsive behaviors (e.g. repeatedly asking a family member for reassurance about appearance).”

This, however, shouldn’t be your ending point. “Avoidance and compulsive behaviors help decrease anxiety in the short term, but reinforce BDD symptoms in the long term,” Dr. Wiesel adds. “Developing alternate coping skills and flexible thinking strategies (without relying on avoidance or compulsions) is the key to mastering BDD.” There will always be work to do, but it’s all part of maintaining the best possible mental health!

4. Think about solutions other than therapy, too

If you’re not ready or able to go to therapy yet, or if you want to add other remedies to your treatment of BDD, non-therapeutic methods are also an option! “Mindfulness practices, such as deep breathing and meditation can be helpful practices in addition to therapy,” Dr. Wiesel says.

There are lots of small-scale self-corrective maneuvers you can practice to address BDD. “It’s helpful to learn alternate ways to handle urges or rituals to help reduce mirror checking or reassurance seeking from others,” Dr. Stefanik says. “Learning behavioral techniques such as progressive muscle relaxation or visual imagery can help reduce the intensity of the feelings.” The Mayo Clinic lists several types of relaxation techniques that you can try.

As for medication, there are pharmaceutical products that address BDD as well. “Although no medications have been specifically approved for BDD, the SSRI’s (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are frequently used, such as Prozac,” Dr. Stefanik says. “In addition, other antianxiety or antidepressant meds may be prescribed.”

Dr. Wiesel also recommends the Body Dysmorphic Disorder Foundation as a useful resource. In addition to providing an online community for affected individuals, the Body Dysmorphic Disorder Foundation’s website offers information on support groups, medication, videos, books by individuals with BDD and more.

5. Make a plan

Whether you intend to go the traditional therapy route or try another alternative you’re more comfortable with, you should establish a plan for yourself (in consultation with your doctor as well) to ensure that you’ll stay committed to getting better and addressing the disorder.

Having actionable steps you can take in your coping with and, hopefully, eventual recovery from BDD will make living with the disorder that much easier. “Once it was diagnosed they were able to help me work on behavioral therapy and I became more conscious of the disordered thoughts and behavior and was able to work catch myself when I was doing it,” Ayla says. “Then I could start working on the mental exercises my therapist recommended to help.” It’s all one step at a time.

6. Remember health is about all of you

The best way to address BDD is to do so while keeping rest of your health in mind, too. When you’re taking care of one part of yourself, you’re taking care of all the parts! “Healthy daily habits and routines are necessary to take good care of yourself, whether it’s limiting recreational alcohol or drug use, getting at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise three times a week [or] learning to eat healthy, but not in a way that’s self-harming,” Dr. Stefanik says.

For Ayla, healing from BDD was necessarily a part of other factors of her health. “I think the diagnosis pretty much just felt like another thing to add to the list of problems and nothing really resolved itself until I saw progress with other disordered eating, depression, etc. that I began to see things getting better with BDD,” Ayla says.

Given that BDD can be difficult to differentiate from an eating disorder due to overlapping symptoms, it’s likely that you’ll want to take steps in addressing disordered eating as well. “It is possible for a person to meet criteria for both BDD and an eating disorder, in which case he/she would endorse disordered eating and possibly use of laxatives, diuretics, excessive exercise, and/or purging in addition to the BDD compulsions,” Dr. Wiesel says. BDD and disordered eating may share symptoms, but they are different conditions and should be addressed with consciously different remedies.

Life with a mental illness of any sort isn’t easy, and it is worsened by the innumerable social and other pressures put on people to look and feel good all the time. Remember that your journey towards complete mental healthiness won’t look like anyone else’s, and that’s the way it’s meant to be!

Hopefully after reading this article, you’ll feel a little more equipped to begin your process towards a healthier personal wellbeing. If it’s a helpful starting place, remember that there are people around you who love you just the way you are, and wouldn’t change you for the world.
