Demi Lovato Shares the Sweetest Instagram Post Celebrating Her Thighs

For years Demi Lovato has been a personal hero of mine. From speaking out about her eating disorder to being totally #real about fame, she is always telling the world about what life is really like as a celebrity. And it is not always fun and games.

One of the biggest things that Lovato has struggled with ever since being a child star, is body positivity. But, as she frequently mentions on her Instagram, she is a survivor and that means being okay with who you are now. And that is flawless.

Yesterday, she got extremely honest in a post about her non-thigh gap, writing, "I don't have a thigh gap and I'm still beautiful the way I am."

I don't have a thigh gap and I'm still beautiful the way I am. #recovery #selflove #EVERYbodyisbeautiful

Unless you live under a giant rock, you are probably aware of the fact that Coachella is happening as we speak. Meaning tons of celebrities and gorgeous people are off partying in a giant desert. It's fine, not jealous at all. Ok fine, I wish I was there.

Anyways, the point is that anyone who is anyone is currently there. Including our favorite new couple, Selena Gomez and the Weeknd. According to Cosmopolitan, the couple was spotted at the music festival looking incredibly trendy and hip. (Oh, and adorable.)

E! also reports that the couple could not keep their hands off of each other during the Travis Scott concert.

Could they be any more perfect? Nope, just nope.

What Lip Color You Should Rock This Weekend, Based On Your Sign

$

When it comes to picking out nail polish colors, we often don’t think twice about branching out of our comfort zone with a daring new shade. However, it’s safe to say that lip color is a whole different game. If you’re having trouble deciding which lip color you should rock when you’re headed out this weekend, look no further than the stars for inspiration.

Red: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

Some things just never go out of style. While red may not be the most unusual lip color out there, it hands-down remains the most daring and intense, which is fitting for the fire signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Not only does red lipstick equip you with an extra boost of confidence, but it shows you’re not afraid to take action. Hesitant to make a move on that guy you’ve been crushing on for weeks? Nervous to be the first one on the dance floor? This fiery shade—Fearless by ELF ($1, eyeslipsface.com)—should do the trick.

If you have a paler skin tone and are worried about pulling off a color so dark and bold, look no further than Taylor Swift herself, who has made deep red lipstick a staple in her make-up routine.

Nude: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn

For Earth signs Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, less is always more. Even when you’re going out and dressing up, you still like to keep things simple. Nude lip shades are your go-to because they’re natural-looking, practical and can be paired with a variety of outfits and styles. Whether you’re hitting the bars this weekend or watching Netflix with your SO, you know you’ll be able to pull off this look night after night. Since everyone’s skin tone is different, it’s important to try out a few nude shades before settling on the one that’s best for you. KISSING by Charlotte Tilbury ($34, charlottetilbury.com) is a good place to start.

If you're not a fan of wearing lipstick in general, nude shades can be a great gateway to bolder looks. Since they're so natural-looking, you won't have to worry about standing out too much while you're still learning and experimenting with what shade is best for you. Similar to buying concealer and foundation, look for the color that most closely matches your skin tone and go from there.

Related: 5 Beauty Products You Use, But Probably Shouldn't

Peach: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius

Air signs are known for being thoughtful, social and inspiring, so it’s not surprising that they’re always up to date on the latest fashion and beauty trends. If you’re a Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius looking to make a statement this spring and summer, look no further than one of 2016’s hottest shades: peach. This fun and playful shade will have you turning heads in no time, and makes a perfect pair with your new sundress or bikini. Bronzed Peach by Covergirl ($5.99, CVS) sets the standard.

If you’re looking to take your trendsetting one step further, you could take a chance on another one of this season’s boldest colors: orange. If you’re nervous about trying a color outside of your comfort zone, start with Orange Blossom by Macaron Lippie ($5.99, Ulta). If you try it and decide you're not ready for the color, it won't break your bank, either.

Plum: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

Water signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces have earned reputations for being the deepest thinkers and the biggest dreamers, so they need an equally deep and daring color to match. While dark purple lipstick may seem hard to pull off at first, it can become a game-changing look when you figure out what shade is best for you—some may seem more red-tinted, while others even look brown or blue-ish. Use your creative thinking, open mind, and don’t be afraid to take a few shades for a test run before a big night out. Try this deep plum shade, Shame from Urban Decay ($22, Urban Decay).

When it comes to lipstick, it’s easy to get stuck in the habit of wearing your same old, go-to shade. However, with summer on the horizon, there’s no better time to try out a new look. Use your new-found astrological inspiration to make a statement when you go out this weekend. Keep on slaying!

How Binge Watching Netflix Really Impacts Your Body

$

0

It’s Friday night, and there's no way that you're going out. So what do you do? Netflix. Netflix, eat pizza, ice cream and everything else you can find. Before you know it, it’s 2 A.M. and you've just spent six hours watching a screen without moving once. Have you ever wondered how that could impact you? Whether it’s your eyes, brain, butt or mental health, binge watching Netflix or any other outlet for hours on end can really hurt you. Binge watching TV can range from four episodes in a row to 10, and even more. There are so many negative effects of doing this, you may want to think twice before turning on the TV and putting on your sweats. Here are several of the ways it impacts your body:

1. You may be slowing down your metabolism

According to NPR, epidemiologist Steven Blair spent 40 years investigating physical activity and health in relation to sitting and watching TV. “If you're sitting, your muscles are not contracting, perhaps except to type," Blair says. "But the big muscles, like in your legs and back, are sitting there pretty quietly." And because the major muscles aren't moving, your metabolism slows down. When you have a slower metabolism, this means that you are digesting your food at a slower rate than people with a faster metabolism. This can lead to weight gain and many other health problems associated with your digestive system.

2. Your eyes are strained

According to Dr. Rebecca M. Sappington, Ph.D, Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt School of Opthamology and Visual Sciences, watching Netflix or TV for an extended period of time can cause eye muscle fatigue and, "therefore, reduced ability to accommodate (change focus)." Itt can also lead to headaches which can cause discomfort. Another side effect is that you blink less when staring at a screen, so eyes can become dry—leading to redness and a "scratchy" feeling. Dr. David Calkins, Ph.D, Director of Vanderbilt Vision Research Center, says that while binge watching may cause discomfort or eye strain for adults, for children, it’s more of what they are not doing while binge watching that might be more harmful. Dr. Calkins says, "even for adolescents, proper wiring of the brain to support normal integration of the senses (vision, hearing etc) with the motor system (especially fine motor skills), requires on-task daily training." He says that the daily training usually takes place through games, play-time, or sports.

Related: The Truth About How Much Sleep You Actually Need

3. It may be harder to fall asleep

According to Dr. Josna Adusumilli, MD, sleep specialist/doctor at Mass General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, the amount of sleep that you are losing when you are up at all hours of the night can impact your body in a negative way. For people that watch TV at night, it will be harder to fall asleep because of the blue light from electronic devices. Because certain people are night owls and are always up late, they have an internal sleep clock that let's them go to bed later and wakeup earlier. But if you are unable to fall asleep, your whole schedule is off and that will impact your energy and mood for the next day. As well people who sleep less than six hours per night (or more than nine) were significantly more likely to have heart disease or diabetes, have suffered a stroke, or be obese, even after researchers adjusted the results for other known risk factors.

4. Your mental health could be affected

According to Dr. Carole Lieberman, M.D, Media Psychiatrist & Bestselling Author, binge watching can affect your mental health in many ways—some good and some bad. If you watch comedies, it can relieve stress and boost your immune system.  But, if you binge watch depressing dramas or horror movies, they can make you depressed or anxious. People who binge watch are especially vulnerable to its impact because they may already have some problems that they are trying to escape by watching TV. For example, people who are lonely, stressed out or depressed are more easily lured by the escapism that binge watching promises. So, their underlying problems are compounded by the impact of the TV shows they watch.

Overall, it may seem like sitting on the couch and watching TV is harmless, but looking back at it, it can really hurt you. Whether it is making your muscles tense up or slowing your metabolism down, sitting and staring at a screen for long periods of time can really mess with your body. So it might be best to stop yourself before you click next episode and save yourself a trip to the doctor later down the road.

'Mommy Dead and Dearest' Is Your Next Must See Documentary

The story is almost too crazy to be true: HBO released the trailer for an upcoming documentary, Mommy Dead and Dearest - and it's definitely your next must-see documentary. The film tells the true story of a mother and daughter duo who caught national attention after their seemingly perfect relationship turned into a living nightmare.

The murder mystery traces the lives of Dee Dee Blanchard and her disabled daughter, Gypsy Rose. Gypsy was forced to live in a wheelchair since the age of 5, as she suffered from lukeima, seizures and required constant care. The pair lived together in the small town of Springfield, Missouri, where Dee Dee was found brutally murdered in her home on Sunday, June 14, 2015. A graphic Facebook post from Dee Dee's account alerted authorities to question a missing Gypsy, and uncovered a troubled past that no one expected.

Co-producer Alison Byrne found the article on Thought Catalog that details the crime story, which immediately caught the attention of the film's director, Erin Lee Carr.

Murder, child abuse, mental illness and forbidden love intertwine to create this disturbing tale of real events and twisted realities.

The thrilling documentary will premiere on HBO on May 15, 10 p.m. ET.

What Career You Should Really Pursue, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

$
0
0

According to everyone on the Internet, your Zodiac reveals everything about you—how you fall in love, what type of friend you are, what your favorite food is. So we’ve decided to add to the list of things that your date of birth should tell you about your life. If you’re in need of some help in the career department, keep reading to find out what you should do for a living, based on your zodiac sign.

Capricorn

Your mind is on your money and your money is on your mind. You’re ambitious and you strive to be super successful, to the point where everything you do is based on how it will help you out financially. On top of your dedication to saving money, you’re also responsible and you work hard, which is why you should consider being a banker or accountant.

Aquarius

You’re witty and clever, but also kind of a cynic. You’re pretty emotionally detached from people, but you still manage to work well with others. Your mind works in different ways because of how smart and progressive you are. You would make a great scientist or researcher.

Pisces

You’re pretty hard on yourself when it comes to your career. You don’t like to be in positions of power because you don’t like the pressure, but you’re very creative and hard-working. Because you’re a creative thinker who’s passionate about the world around you, you would make a great poet or musician.

Aries

You need to be in charge, and your extremely competitive nature makes it hard for you to take no for an answer. In addition to being aggressive, you’re also pretty caring, which is probably why you would make such a great leader—you know how to push people and encourage them with your optimism. For that, you’d make a great CEO or social activist.

Taurus

“You smart. You loyal. You grateful.” When DJ Khaled dropped that knowledge, he was probably talking about you because you like to get shit done. You consider yourself the HBIC because you’re pretty determined, and the immense amount of passion you have for everything you do makes you one of the hardest working people you know. Your stubborn nature is what helps you keep on keeping on when others would give up, which is why you’re likely to be an entrepreneur or business owner.

Gemini

Nobody can tell you what to do. Whatever you do for a living needs to provide you with the option to be free to do anything you want to do, how you want to do it. There’s no such thing as a typical day at work for you. You’re a ball of energy, and you can’t stand to be doing the exact same thing every day for an extended amount of time. You would make a great event planner or choreographer.

Cancer

You’re super maternal and nurturing to everyone around you. You’re a loyal friend and would literally kick someone’s ass if they ever tried to mess with your family. And that’s the great thing about you. You harness a lot of emotions and wear your heart on your sleeve, but you’re protective of everyone you know, including yourself—which is why you can go from zero to 100 real quick if the opportunity presents itself. You have a future in education or social work.

Leo

Everything has to be about you, like, 99.9 percent of the time. You’re always the life of the party because you have a spirit that can literally change everyone’s mood. You also feel things pretty deeply, and you’re kind of melodramatic—not to mention that you always need people in your life who will look up to you and admire you for how hard you work. Your desire to be the center of attention is what will make you a great actor or actress. You might even have a future in reality TV.

Virgo

You share a Zodiac sign with Beyoncé, so consider yourself lucky because you guys are pretty much the same person. While some people may act off of their emotions, everything you do is based on logic and rationality. You’re known for being a perfectionist, and you’re super detail-oriented. You analyze every project you start to the fullest extent before you even think about letting people see the finished product. You were born to be a writer or editor.

Libra

You’re charming AF. You know how to use what you’ve got to get what you want from people, but you also know how to do it in a friendly manner. You strive to make the people around you happy, and you always want people to feel like they’re a part of something. But sometimes you’re way too indecisive, which causes you to break in the face of making important decisions and just do what people want you to do. You're pretty much a natural when it comes to negotiating which is why you would make a great salesperson or real estate agent.

Scorpio

You’re independent, and you have no problem being the lone wolf. Your introverted nature is also what makes you so intense and hungry for power. Who needs a squad when you can just take over the world instead? You would do anything for a paycheck, and you don’t care how many people you piss off because of it. On top of that, you're also a great leader who would work best in a position of power that will make a big impact on the world. Your hunger for money and power would make you a great lawyer.

Sagittarius

You need to be in an adventurous environment that excites you and keeps people guessing. You’re honest and opinionated, and you never hold back when it comes to doing what you love. You’d work best in a career that allows you to travel the world, meet new people and make decisions. You should consider a career in advertising or public relations.

So, are you ready to send in your resume? The next time you're in need of some career advice, consider what sign you were born under and you may just be surprised at what you find.

Melissa McCarthy Playing Sean Spicer Dressed as the Easter Bunny on SNL is EVERYTHING

$

It has not been a good week for White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer - and of course, when Spicer is in the news, Melissa McCarthy's genius Saturday Night Live version of the press secretary is never far behind. This time, though, there was a bunny suit involved and we are HERE for it.

ICYMI, earlier this week, Spicer made headlines (again) for some, erm, interesting comments about Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad's use of chemical weapons, when he said, "You know, you had someone as despicable as Hitler who didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons." Naturally, people were not happy. While Spicer stumbled through a (super awkward) apology later in the press conference, the damage had been done. (Not to mention the fact that he still referred to concentration camps as "Holocaust centers.")

Which brings us to last night, in which Melissa McCarthy brought back her impression of Spicer as the official White House Easter Bunny. Which, side note, is a role Spicer actually held in 2008 - thankfully, there's photo evidence:

As usual, Melissa McCarthy's "press conference," included a brutally angry Sean Spicer, in addition to a United Airlines reference (because it wasn't such a great week for them either) and a hilariously wrong explanation of Passover, which Spicer seemingly prefers to call "Jewish Easter." Need I say more?

BRB, just endlessly replaying Melissa McCarthy riding away in a giant Easter egg:

Lady Gaga Dropped a New Song at Coachella Last Night

$

Considering how much she killed it, it's hard to believe Lady Gaga was only performing at Coachella in order to fill in for a very-pregnant-with-twins Beyoncé. Not only did her set feature fireworks and her flawless lineup of hits ('Telephone' and 'Born This Way' anyone?), but she also surprised fans with a brand new song.

Called, "The Cure" the song totally nails the dance-y, pop vibe that we've always loved Lady Gaga for - and it's SO fun and upbeat. After performing it in a seriously spectacular way only Gaga can, she released the song on streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify immediately - because she's amazing like that.

Because she just released her latest album, Joanne, Rolling Stone reports that it's unclear whether this means we're getting a new album (already?!) or if 'The Cure' will act as a bonus track on Gaga's already-released album. What we do know is that we'll be playing her catchy new tune endlessly until she does it all again at weekend two of the festival.

There's nothing quite like the nostalgia that comes rushing over us when we pass by Disney Channel while scouring for something to watch on TV. We remember all of the amazing, spectacular programs that we grew up on (and desperately try to find on YouTube), and eventually end up reminiscing on our entire childhood. While it’s hard to come up with only a few items that made Disney Channel our TV playground, here is a list of the top moments that we will never forget.

How She Got There: Rebecca Serle, Author and Co-Creator/Executive Producer of 'Famous in Love'

Name: Rebecca Serle
Job Title and Description: Author and Co-Creator/Executive Producer
College Name/Major: USC: English and Creative Writing, The New School: MFA Creative Writing
Twitter Handle:@RebeccaASerle
Instagram Handle: @Rebecca_Serle

What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?

Rebecca Serle: I have two careers that talk to each other, but my days look very different depending on what hat I’m wearing. I’m an author when I’m in New York, and I’m the co-creator/executive producer of the TV show Famous in Love when I’m in LA. When I’m home and writing I usually wake up, work out, write for an hour and then check my inbox and calendar and see what needs to be done for the day. For instance today, I’m answering interview questions! Last year we were in production on Famous in Love and my days were all show all the time. I was in the writer’s room every day, and on set as much as possible—they are very, very long days, but incredibly fun ones!

What is the best part of your job?

I really am so grateful to get to do what it is I love—build worlds. Most of my job is playing make-believe, getting to know the people in my head, and letting them help me tell their stories. I sound crazy, but it’s true!

What was your first entry-level job in your field and how did you get it?

RS: I worked at the publishing house Penguin (now Penguin Random) as an intern. I applied online like everyone else but then a friend from college knew a girl who worked in HR and I got an interview—which I think sealed the deal. I was pounding the pavement looking for part-time industry work while I was in grad school. I applied to GQ, Harper Collins, Simon and Schuster, and was rejected by them all. As luck would have it, though, two years later I sold my first novel--- to Simon and Schuster!

What words of wisdom (well-known quotes, an anecdote from your boss) do you find most valuable?

RS: My professor in college, Marianne Wiggins—a writer I greatly admire—once told me that writing is ten percent talent and ninety percent commitment—I still think that’s true. Also, I say a lot that having fun is a very important part of the process. We writers like to complain about how hard it is but the truth is it’s also really delightful—and I produce my best work when I’m happy.

What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?

RS: I don’t really think of past experiences as “mistakes”—I think everything brings us where we need to go and teaches us what we need to learn. I’m grateful for all my wobbles because I wouldn’t be here without them. But in general learning to be a boss isn’t easy. I have stumbled greatly in that, and still struggle every day to find my voice, speak up, and own my role. I think for women particularly this area can be challenging- I’m a work in progress.

What has been the most surreal moment of your career thus far?

RS: Probably our pilot being picked up because then I knew it would be real—we were going to make this world come to life. I was standing in Whole Foods when I got the call, and I started screaming.

What do you look for when considering hiring someone?

RS: Honestly, it depends on the role. I’ve been working with my assistant for almost four years now and I hired her without even looking at her resume. She came into my office and was excited about what I was doing, and had a plan on how I could improve. I’m not as interested in what you’ve done as I am in what you want to do—and the way you express that. And organization, for me, is paramount.

What advice would you give to a 20-something with similar aspirations?

RS: If you want to be a writer first and foremost you must write. If you write, you’re a writer. Period. Read as much as you possibly can—it’s how you learn what works and what doesn’t and it’s also how you find your voice. And get inside the industry you want to be in. I can trace my career back to my first internship in publishing—it’s how I met my agent, and eventually my manager. Get to know how the industry works, who the players are, and how you can be an asset to them. And honestly, it sounds trite, but believe in yourself. No one will ever care about your career the way you do.

What's the one thing that's stood out to you the most in a resume?

RS: I love when people write their qualities at the top of the page. Telling me you were an editorial assistant for two summers is good, but I want to know what you think your strengths are, what YOU, personally, will bring to my team. If you’re applying for a creative position don’t be afraid to get a little creative on your resume. Move over, mermaid hair, because pixie cuts are having a moment. Perfect for the summer, this low-maintenance, adorable cut will eliminate so many of the summer struggles of long hair. Imagine your hair not taking an eternity to dry after the beach, or your perfectly straightened locks not frizzing up the second that you step out into the humidity!

Cara Delevinge is the latest celeb to realize the perks of the pixie. Delevingne took to social media two days ago to tease her new 'do, but left us kind of in the dark as to what her new hair actually looked like. The wait is over, as the supermodel just revealed a short, fun pixie cut. Let's be honest, nothing about the British model is normal or basic, so logically neither is her hair. To take the dramatic change one step further, Delevingne dyed her hair a pastel pink (perfect for Easter, no?).

What’s a new haircut without a kickass, dramatic Instagram post to reveal it? The best part of the whole process is taking the perfect selfie to share with your followers, who are sure to love the new you. Delevingne captioned her gorgeous post with a reference to her latest movie that she is starring in with Jaden Smith, Life In A Year. Smith recently also shed his long locks for the film.

Not only am I impatient to see the movie that prompted these two style icons to shed their signature looks (and locks), but I am so excited to see more pictures of Delevingne’s fun new hair! I find that the pixie cut and the alternative color suit her edgy, cool-girl style so well. As Delevingne continues to grow in the acting world, as with her signature brows, this unique cut will only help her stand out from the rest of the crowd.
