People Went Crazy Over This Candle That Smells Like A New Macbook

Ahhhhh, I love the smell of Macbook in the morning. Wait? Is it just me?

No, it’s not! Twelve South has come out with a Macbook scented candle that has notes of “mint, peach, basil, lavender, mandarin and sage,” because that's apparently what a brand new Macbook smells like straight out of the box. Can anybody confirm?

Twelve South typically creates Apple accessories but once a few of its shoppers sheepishly admitted to sniffing new Macbooks, the company paired up with candle company Candlefish to create the unique scent.

The candle was released on Tuesday and sold out later that day. But fear not, you Mac-sniffing weirdos, the company has created a newsletter so that potential buyers will be notified when it comes back in stock!

So if you want the sweet scent of Macbook to fill your dorm (and leaving all your Apple products by the vent isn’t working), sign up for the newsletter here! Happy sniffing!

Ben Higgins & Lauren Bushnell Talk JoJo, Reality TV Relationships &'Happily Ever After'

When Ben Higgins set out to find love on The Bachelor, we had high hopes that he would find his perfect match (and a quiet wish for him to stay single so we could still have our shot at marrying him). We all know how that story ended, with Ben getting down on one knee to propose to Lauren Bushnell.

Now it’s time for this Bachelor couple to start the next chapter, and thankfully, they’re taking us along for the journey. Ben and Lauren chatted with reporters ahead of the premiere of their spin-off, Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After? Here are 11 things we’re dying to share.

1. JoJo is supportive of Ben and Lauren and vice versa

Though a few loose ends from Ben’s season of The Bachelor might have you believe there’s bad blood between Ben and Lauren and JoJo, Ben assured us that’s just not the case. “I hope she’s excited or happy for Lauren and I, and know that when her premiere of The Bachelorette was airing, Lauren and I were happy for her…I think we’re all fairly supportive of each other—very supportive of each other—and I think JoJo will feel the same way.”

2. They’re over the JoJo drama

You know what they say: time heals all wounds. That’s certainly the case when it comes to the drama surrounding Ben’s previous relationship with JoJo. Lauren shared, “With time and with experiences and with just working on our relationship, I think that’s how we’ve moved forward.”

“I’m totally comfortable with the three of us sitting down today, but I can’t say that I necessarily would’ve been comfortable with that a week after we got engaged,” she added.

3. The real reason they agreed to a spin-off has nothing to do with the cameras

Some fans—or haters—may question Ben and Lauren’s intentions for signing on to film another reality show. But it’s not because they’re interested in being followed around by cameras 24/7.

Ben explained, “We didn’t do this because we wanted cameras to follow us. I think we did this because we realized that our life wasn’t going to be private, even if we desired for it or even tried to make it private. People were going to still want to know what’s going on in our life…So jumping right into a new show wasn’t because we wanted cameras. It was because honestly it was a good opportunity for us to highlight exactly what everybody else was already asking.”

4. They go to Bachelor super-couples for advice

Lauren mentioned that previous Bachelor couples were the only ones who really understood her and Ben’s circumstance after the final rose, and they’ve turned to ones like Catherine Lowe, Desiree Siegfied and Trista and Ryan Sutter for guidance. “It’s really great to have them, and I hope that we can be that to future couples of The Bachelor.”

5. You’ll see what Ben and Lauren’s Bachelor friends are like IRL

You may think you know your fave bachelors and bachelorettes, but this spin-off is going to give you an even closer look behind-the-scenes. “What you’re going to see is these people out of the Bachelor and Bachelorette world, into their normal life, which I think is so cool to see. You see these people’s true character; you see how they react in everyday situations,” Ben said.

6. Lace and Grant’s relationship is real AF

We’re all skeptical of the lightning-speed couplings that form in Paradise, but we don’t think we have to worry about Lace and Grant. The engaged pair makes an appearance on Ben & Lauren later in the season, and Ben and Lauren were blown away by their bond: “One thing Lauren and I just kind of took away from being around them for this show was, like, ‘Wow, they really care about each other.’ We said that multiple times. It’s such a beautiful thing to see.”

7. There will be tears when Chad visits

Lauren admitted that after meeting Chad during JoJo’s After the Final Rose special, she and Ben were eager to help him and get to know him better. But they probably didn’t expect what was meant to be a fun camping trip to take such an emotional turn. “It definitely got interesting, and there were some tears shed,” Lauren previewed.

8. But watch out for the twins and Chris Soules

Chad may bring the drama, but Ben says fans should be most excited for the twins and Chris Soules to stop by the series. We hear you, Ben, and we’ll be keeping an eye out.

9. Ben is sweetly protective of Lauren

Lauren noted that, while filming, she’s learned just how protective Ben is of her. “I think, for both Ben and I, we promised each other that we would never let this show affect our relationship and our relationship will always come first. And that evidence is where our schedule is exhausting or I’m struggling with something and Ben is the first to step in.”

10. They’ve learned a lot about each other while filming, and it’s only made them stronger

For those who doubt that a relationship can survive the reality TV treatment, Ben and Lauren want to be living proof. “I’ve gotten to know my quirks more and Lauren’s quirks more, and how she supports me and how we lift each other up in times that are frustrating or tiring,” Ben explained. “This has been an experience that I think we both have just learned a ton about each other through, which has added an element to doing this show that I think is great for our relationship. We know each other very well right now.”

11. They still don’t know why they got a spin-off

When we asked Ben why he and Lauren are the first Bachelor couple to ever take part in a spin-off, he confessed that he doesn’t really know. His best guess? They’re a real couple.

“I think after being around us…and seeing, ‘Hey, this is a real couple. They actually do have arguments. They actually do annoy each other. Wait, they actually really like each other and love each other also.’…I think the franchise probably thought this is a couple that we would like to highlight or show more of.”

Timing, the success of the franchise and Lauren’s beauty might also have something to do with it, he hinted.

Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After? premieres Tuesday, October 11 on Freeform.

How to Dress Up As Your Favorite Character From 'Stranger Things' This Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner and if you’re anything like us you are probably stressing about finding three (or more) killer costumes for Halloweekend. If you have a Netflix account or a taste for ’80s sci-fi horror then you’ve heard about “Stranger Things” starring our favorite non-Heather Heather Winona Ryder. Eleven and Karen speak to your soul so why not strut your stuff as one of these characters for Halloweekend? Here’s everything you need to pull off the trendiest costumes of 2016.

1. Barb

Barb: the best friend, the Debbie Downer (we can totally relate) and the voice of reason. Barb has super pale skin so for her makeup be sure to use the lightest foundation you can find. You’ll have the chance to work the blue eyeshadow trend and freckles, as shown by this YouTuber. Clothing-wise you’re going to sport some giant glasses, a short red wig and a plaid top.

2. Dustin

Dustin is one of the main besties in the show and his look is very laid-back. Pin your hair up in a low ponytail and cover it with a red, white and blue hat. Layer one or two printed tees and put on a brown or jean jacket. Most importantly, remember the black tooth wax for your teeth, for Dustin’s lack of teeth. This video can walk you through the process. Bonus points if you shout out “these aren’t real Nilla wafers,” or “I found the chocolate pudding” at least once during the night.

3. Eleven

Eleven is, obviously, our fave. The most important things to include are the fake blood for her signature bloody nose and the 011 tattoo. Other than that you can do your basic makeup routine. Outfit-wise you’ll need a pink dress, which you can totally reuse, knee-high socks and a navy blue windbreaker. The devil is in the details so be sure to glue some ribbon to your rocks like this YouTuber and carry around an empty, or not empty, box of Eggos.

4. Jonathan

Jonathan’s look can be recreated with lots of layers, colors that clash and plaid. Be sure to work that sassy haircut or short Justin Bieber-style wig.

5. Joyce

Winona is back and since it would be super complex to dress up as her for Halloween we’ll have to settle for her character Joyce Byers. Her look isn’t super complicated so don’t over-think it. We’re talking mom jeans, a striped shirt, green army jacket and cigarettes galore to pull this off.

6. Lucas

For Lucas, all you need is a plaid shirt with that same fur-lined jacket from Jonathan’s look. Two costumes for the price of one—win!

7. Mike

Mike’s style basically comes out of an American Apparel ad. Pair a baseball tee with a gray zip-up hoodie. Don't forget to bring a walkie!

8. Nancy

Nancy has some of the best fashion on the show—we would seriously consider dressing like her on a regular basis. There are tons of different outfits to copy but let's start with your basic black skinny jeans, which you can pair with a knit-striped sweater. Try going for a more inspired look like this one for pieces you can 100% re-wear. To get her fresh-faced makeup look stick with neutral tones and pull your hair back half up half down.

9. Steve

For those of you reading this just so you can recognize the “Stranger Things” costumes, I’m sure this face is one you’ve seen before. Steve’s look can be recreated with a pair of loose high waisted jeans, a greenish blue sweater, makeup for his black eye, and Adidas superstar shoes. Here’s some inspiration. If you happen to be working short hair it’s time to break out the hair gel for that signature Steve do.

10. Will

He's part of the crew ... for a little while. To pull of this costume you'll need to wear a wig and leave "Irish exit" style from the party.

4 Tips To Avoid an Offensive Costume This Halloween

$

0

You’ve got your candy corn ready, you’ve already planned your Halloween movie marathon and now you’re ready to start costume planning. But, the first rule to an awesome costume is to make sure you’re not offending anyone you may pass while trick-or-treating or party hopping. With costume websites selling costumes like “Mexican Mistress”, “Sexy Indian Girl” and “Hawaiian Goddess”, it may seem as though these costumes are OK to sport. However, the nature of those costumes serve as disrespect to the cultures they are imitating. Skip the controversy and educate yourself about what to avoid this Halloween with these tips.

1. Do your research before you buy

You may think gluing a few feathers to a headband and wearing a fringed dress seems like the “perfect” Native American costume, however, it’s actually everything but the perfect costume. Not only would you be perpetuating a stereotype, the Native American population is not there for you to mimic for your Halloween costume.

Alani Vargas, a junior at Northwestern University, puts it simply: “Basically, if the type clothing was ever meant for something specific in a culture or from another culture, especially a minority one, it's a no-go.”

Instead of trying to play dress up with another culture’s traditions, appreciate them from afar. You may think it’s cute to throw on a kimono and put chopsticks in your hair so you can sport a “Geisha girl” look but geishas are Japanese entertainers and have had a strong history in Japan. Their makeup and dress is a part of a tradition in their country and shouldn’t be up for grabs at the Halloween store.

2. Don’t make yourself another “color”

Unless you’re dressing up as an Oompa Loompa or a Smurf, you shouldn’t try to use Halloween makeup to dress up as another race.

In the 1800s, white actors would paint their faces black and “play” African-Americans in shows and eventually on television. These minstrel shows portrayed stereotypes about the African-American community. The shows were highly offensive and are still marked as one of the biggest examples of cultural appropriation to date.

You may not have the same skin color as Beyoncé, but she has enough iconic outfits for you to DIY that people will instantly figure out your costume.

“If you have to participate in cultural appropriation or blackface to portray a certain character or person, you need to be more creative,” says Gloria Kimbulu, a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

With costumes like gumball machines, kegs and eggs and various Ninja Turtles, do you really need to offend another race to nail the Halloween game? No, you don’t.

3. Do make fun of yourself

A zombie college student, a box of wine or a basic “witch” complete with leggings and a Starbucks cup are all costume ideas that make fun things in your life without offending anyone.

Juli Cehula, a sophomore at Saint Vincent College, says, “Stick to your own culture, no one can make fun of you for being you! Plus, laughing at yourself is the most grown-up humor there is.”

Are you constantly showing up to parties in sweatpants? Then laugh it up by adding vampire fangs and some fake blood. Do you find yourself constantly drinking the same bottom-shelf vodka? Dress up as the bottle, tease your hair so it looks messy and give yourself “last night’s makeup” to make it look like you’re hungover.

4. Don’t make fun of anyone’s sexual orientation

There was major backlash when Halloween costume websites started selling a Caitlyn Jenner costume based off of her Vanity Fair costume, which was modeled by a man.

“[The LGBTQ+ community] has fought so hard to get where they are today and dressing up as stereotypes of lesbian women or gay men only makes you look ignorant and lets it seem like it’s still OK to push them away from society and it’s not,” says Abby Devore, a senior at Temple University.

Reinforcing stereotypes about the LGBTQ+ community only contributes to the oppression of this community and the people who identify with it.

An easy, overpriced Halloween store costume may seem like the quick fix to your Halloween costume problem, but when it uses somebody else’s race, religion or ethnicity as a pun or “joke,” it’s not a good costume. Get fun and creative with your next Halloween outfit and think outside of the box. You may just win “Best Costume” if you avoid the run-of-the-mill ideas.

15 Signs No One Should Ever Ask You for Dating Advice

$

You like to think your dating skills are pretty great or at least okay. But when you really think about it, maybe it's best that your friends don't listen to your dating advice.

1. Overall, you pretty much have no idea how to date or ask someone out.

How do you differentiate between hanging out and *wink*wink* hanging out?

2. Your idea of flirting is insulting someone to the point that they think you can't stand them. When you try to be romantic, you almost always fail.

"Ugh, you're terrible" somehow means "You're so great—let's hang out, like, all the time."

3. The last person you were interested in had absolutely no idea.

You insulted him regularly and responded to his messages within 24 hours—how did he not know how much you liked him?

4. You try to send the first message on Tinder sometimes, but the only opening line you can think of is some snarky comment about how boring the match's bio is.

You try to be original by not saying “hey,” but you don’t want to come on too strong. So instead of flirting like normal, you’re like, “Wow, you love to travel?! Never heard that one before!”

5. Dating lingo is beyond your comprehension. It's like everyone got a free copy of Modern Dating 101 except you.

Your friend asks you if you and a guy are "talking," and you're like, "Um, yeah, we talk all the time?"

6. You've been reading "10 Signs Your Crush Likes You" articles since age 12 and still can't identify the signs.

Eye contact? Compliments? How are any of these things different from normal daily interactions? The “does he like me” quizzes failed you all throughout middle school and high school (and okay, maybe now sometimes, too), and you feel no shame.

7. Your 14-year-old sister has been in more relationships than you have.

You can still give good advice even if you don't have a ton of experience but…

8. You don't know how to make small talk, so your first dates are more like interrogations.

Small talk is boring. When your date gives you boring answers, you just know the two of you could never date. Why even continue the date at this point?

9. If you don't have anything obvious in common with the person you're on a date with, it becomes real awkward, real fast, and you don't know how to continue the conversation.

How do people sit in a room with someone they don't know much about and find something to talk about? How?! And don't even try to start a game of 20 questions, buddy.

10. You're a strong advocate for being upfront about your feelings, but you've never really done such a thing.

You giving advice: “Yeah, girl, just tell him that you like him.” You in real life talking to your crush: “Wow, you are such a great friend, bro."

11. You try to play it so cool that you seem aloof or uninterested most of the time.

You don’t want to be too obvious so when you see someone you’re interested in, instead of saying “hi” like a normal human being would, you book it in the opposite direction and avoid them.

12. You're super skeptical when it comes to dating and love.

This can be a good thing to an extent, but your negative attitude isn't always the most encouraging.

13. You can’t pick up signals. Ever. Someone could directly say “Hey, I’m really into you” and you’d probably think they were joking.

It’s not that you’re not confident, but why did this guy just say he likes spending time with you? What does it all mean? HE NEEDS TO SPELL IT OUT AND GIVE YOU ANSWERS. YOU DON’T PICK UP SIGNALS.

14. You have to try your hardest not to look bored when people tell you about their love lives.

It's not that you don't care about your friends or their relationships, because you do. But sometimes, you're just bored by the whole "dating" thing. Your friends should know by now not to come to you for advice anyway.

15. You’re secretly happy when your friends decide not to take your dating advice because based on personal experience, you feel like it probably wouldn’t go so well for them.

But then again, if they had taken your bad advice, maybe you wouldn't be in this situation. Oh well. At the end of the day, you're happy for your friends, and you're happy to help them when they want advice. You're just not sure how helpful you'll be.

17 Things That Make You the Worst Type of College Student

If you're guilty of committing any of these heinous acts, congrats! You're a menace to campus.

1. Assigned seat stealer

No, that's not my seat, but why is it suddenly yours?

2. Sharing an Odyssey article every other day

I'm sure it's soooo relatable, so send it in your group chat and not your Facebook wall.

3. Loud dorm sex

At first I thought you were watching When Harry Met Sally, but that scene is like two minutes long and it's been over 20 minutes at this point!

4. Notes/homework hog

Sure, sharing notes may not be necessarily "allowed" in the student handbook, but what happened to that rule about campus being a community?

5. Playing music from your headphones loud enough for the whole class to hear

The only thing that makes this forgivable is when you realize what you’ve done and get all embarrassed.

6. Choosing the stall right next to a person when there are THOUSANDS OF OTHERS AVAILABLE

Public bathrooms are bad enough without someone doing their business literally one foot away. Why would you choose this?

7. Slow walker

Maybe I have somewhere important to be, maybe I don’t! I still reserve the right to pass you like an aggressive driver.

8. Leaving your laundry in the communal washer and dryer

I have no underwear—this is urgent! Your clothes have been dry for an hour. Why did you even bother starting this?

9. Being a know-it-all in lecture

This was pleasant until you became condescending. Now I’m participating more than I would like to be because I just want to shut you up.

10. Never coming to class

We are all allowed a few absences here and there, but you judging my doodles in the margins is getting a little old.

11. Alarm snoozer

Thos extra 10 minutes aren't going to make this day any easier. Bite the bullet and get up for good, or so help me I'll come in your room and turn off that alarm for you.

12. DRINK. STEALER.

This is so truly offensive I hope it never happens to you, but if it does, it is okay to lose faith in humanity for a little while.

13. Making small-talk during an 8 a.m. class

Can we all acknowledge that it is far too early for human interaction? And that I rolled out of bed 10 minutes ago, and you probably don’t want to look at me too closely?

14. Being nosy

You have to be a close friend to get the gossip on my weekend. Just being in my Monday class does not qualify you for getting the juicy deets, okay?

15. Work one-upper

It’s college—everyone is exhausted and doing more work than they’d like to be, no matter their major. And it’s never interesting to hear about how much you have to do. Never.

16. Snapchat storying like you're DJ Khaled

Everyone stopped watching those months ago, which means everyone has stopped watching yours, too.

17. Being rude to dining hall workers, cleaning ladies or any of the countless other employees making your life easier

Maybe that’s how you treated the people who played this role when you lived at home—and if you did, that’s maybe even more upsetting—but these people don't love you unconditionally, so be polite!

5 Signs You’re a Relationship Addict (& How to Learn to Be Alone)

As the fall weather approaches, single vibes seem to be fading as quickly as the summer sun. The upcoming seasons are known for daily snuggles and cozy romances. From carving pumpkins into scary faces to apple picking in matching flannels, you can probably think of a few couples who are “goals.” For some collegiettes, relationships are all they know while others genuinely prefer the single life.

Can’t decide which one you are? Here are some signs you may be addicted to relationships and advice on how to learn to love being alone.

1. You can’t remember the last time you were single.

Even since grade school, you’ve always found yourself more interested in who your weekly crush was rather than what games people were playing in the school yard. You can try to think back to a time when you were alone, but chances are it wasn’t by choice.

Kim Olver, life, relationship and executive coach, further elaborates, “In my work, I find there are two main reasons college women are more interested in relationships than dating. The first one is that they have a higher need for love and belonging and do not find superficial relationships need-satisfying. They prefer commitment to the casual.” We know how valuable your free time is, so it makes sense to be selective with whom you spend it with.

“The other reason is that there are some women who simply do not feel whole without a significant other,” Olver continues. “They look to that person to ‘complete’ them. Most women who fall into this category either do not know themselves very well and define themselves based on what appeals to their SO, or they do know themselves and don't like what they see,” Olver concludes.

Relationship addict or not, this is a good reminder to focus on the relationship you have with yourself a bit more.

2. When you’re single you’re looking for someone to be your SO.

You’ll seek out your exes if it means you don’t have to be alone, even if they treated you poorly. You willingly settle for less than you deserve to ensure you have an SO in your life. “These people would consistently make decisions to benefit their SO, even going against what they would do if left to their own devices, so as not to make waves in their relationship,” Olver explains.

We definitely don’t think you should compromise your worth for the sole reason of feeling wanted. It can be difficult to admit when you find yourself in an unhealthy relationship, but worth evaluating if it means you can learn to be happy elsewhere.

3. Nothing makes you happier than being with an SO.

For those of you who are in fairytale-type relationships, we can see why you choose commitment over today's crazy dating world. Hannah Morin-Roy, a sophomore at the University of New Hampshire, expresses why she loves being with her boyfriend of almost five years. “I’m addicted to relationships because of the feeling you get when you’re with someone,” she says. “Not so much in a sense that they complete you, but that you know many situations wouldn’t be the same without them. They make everything more exciting and fun.” Because who doesn’t want to be with someone who continues to brighten up their days?

“He knows me better than I know myself and there is nothing like creating lifelong memories with him. No one else can give you the same amount of happiness like a significant other can.”

This sounds like the type of relationship we should all be waiting for. There’s someone out there for everyone, it’s usually just a matter of timing.

4. You find more comfort in relationships than anywhere else.

Maybe you’ve tried to be alone. Maybe you’re independent in many ways, but when it comes to relationships, you have a soft spot. If you’re with the right person, you know they’ll always be there for you and some people need that comfort in their life.

Matteo Pocobene, a recent graduate from Emmanuel College, shares his thoughts. “Although I'll admit being single at the age of 22 is cool, I'm a relationship guy because of the way I feel when I fall in love with someone,” he says. “The best thing about dating is feeling comfortable with yourself. When you date someone you love, you know that they accept all of your flaws — you don't have to try to be someone you're not.”

There is nothing worse than trying to fit a mold other people create for you. You don’t need a relationship to be your own person, but there is certainly a confidence boost that comes with knowing someone loves you for all that you are.
5. You don’t just want an SO, you need one.

You’ve probably seen old high school classmates posting on Facebook about their current relationship drama. Chances are it’s the same couple that continues to break up and get back together over and over again. Annoying, right? This is not what we call a healthy relationship.

Read below for advice on how to learn to be happily single!

Alone, but not lonely

Making the choice to be actively single is beneficial for many women, especially ones who don’t feel confident when they’re alone. Olver advises, “The women who feel incomplete without an SO need to go on a relationship holiday with SOs so they can create a healthy need-satisfying relationship with themselves.”

We couldn’t agree more. Self-love is a must and it can take time to learn your true worth. Give yourself that time if you need it and don’t be afraid to seek out professional help through a form of counseling. This isn’t something you can just learn overnight.

Olivia Hennedy, a senior at Bishop’s University, supports this mindset as well. “I believe in order to have a genuinely happy and healthy relationship, you must learn how to be happy on your own first. Once you realize your self-worth and respect it, you won't settle because you know deep down that anything less wouldn’t make you truly happy. You have to feel whole before you give a piece of your heart to someone else."

It takes both time and effort to build a relationship with yourself. College women have the right to be in committed relationships, but they also have the right to be joyfully single. Olver elaborates, “Happily single women tend to prioritize their personal goals, their personal friendships, and they make their decisions based on what is right for them rather than what's best for their SO or their relationship.”

No matter what type of woman you are, know you are worth much more than you probably believe. You can love relationships as much as you’d like, but remember to love yourself first.

If You Feel Too Much: Jamie Tworkowski on TWLOHA, Life and Hope

College can be incredibly hard. You're trying to succeed in class, live on your own for the first time, make new friends, not spend all your money, land an amazing internship for the summer... Oh, and you better make sure this all looks incredible on Instagram. All this is enough of a juggling act if you're in a great frame of mind, but it's damn near impossible if you're struggling with mental illness — and an increasingly huge number of college students are. USA Today College reports that nearly half of college students felt hopeless in the past year and that suicide is the No. 2 leading cause of death among those ages 15-34.

But if you're feeling lost or can't yet see a light at the end of the tunnel, know that you are far from alone in your struggle and that there is help available. To Write Love on Her Arms is a nonprofit that exists for people with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide to find the hope and help they need. Founder Jamie Tworkowski caught up with Her Campus over email to tell us more about TWLOHA, the expanded edition of If You Feel Too Much and what's next:

Her Campus: Convincing a millennial to cozy up with a book can be a pretty hard task these days. Why should people, particularly college students, read If You Feel Too Much and what are you hoping they gain from the experience?

Jamie Tworkowski: "i'm obviously biased but i suppose they should read it to feel less alone, to be encouraged, to laugh, perhaps to cry, to think, and to reflect on their story. More than anything, the goal is that the book would let them know it's okay to be honest and it's okay to ask for help."

HC: You share so many personal experiences and feelings in this book from the deaths of your friends and notes to your Mom to your life in New York and the growth of To Write Love on Her Arms – a lot of ups and downs. If you could only choose one, which passage is most significant to you and your journey?

JT: "Obviously, the original 'To Write Love on Her Arms' story changed my life, but i'm gonna go with 'There Is Still Some Time.' i wrote it in response to the death of Robin Williams and it's where the title of the book comes from. It's not about the life or death of Robin Williams, it's my message to anyone who might be struggling. i wouldn't say it's my 'favorite' piece or even my best writing, but it feels like the most important."

HC: As a former journalism major, I have to ask: The letter “I” is rarely, if ever, capitalized in your writings, whether in your blogs or in this book. Why?

JT: "Just a subtle attempt at humility. Just how i write for some reason. i think i stole it from Jon Foreman, but at this point i'm not even sure if that's true. i didn't expect the editor to go for it but she did (smiley face)."

HC: Music seems to be a huge part of your life, this book and how TWLOHA provides support and increases awareness for those struggling with addiction, depression, self-injury and suicidal thoughts. Why is music so important to your message? Which bands do you find have the most powerful messages?

JT: "Music has had a unique place in TWLOHA going back to the very beginning. The first person to wear one of our shirts was Jon Foreman from the band Switchfoot. Certainly, a lot of people were introduced to TWLOHA through the support of bands, but our connection of music goes way beyond 'marketing.' i just think music has the unique ability to be incredibly honest, to remind us that it's okay to feel things deeply, okay to ask questions. So if we're trying to invite people to talk about things that aren't often talked about, there's a lot we can learn and borrow from music."

HC: The issues you discuss profoundly affect college students and you write about visiting Butler University. Why is reaching people at this age so important? Have you had any experiences at other universities that stayed with you?

JT: "Well, we know the issues we talk about - things like depression, addiction, and suicide—these things exist on college campuses. So there's that but equally important is the simple fact that we've been embraced by that community. We get so many invitations to bring the TWLOHA conversation to colleges and universities, so it's really come to feel like home. i love it because college students tend to be open-minded. You're in a room full of people who are early in their stories and there's the feeling that you can talk about anything."

HC: A big part of the discussion surrounding suicide and this year’s National Suicide Prevention Week was the recent CDC report that states the suicide rate in America is the highest it’s been in 30 years and that the rate among women in the US has seen one of the biggest jumps. In 2014, the CDC also reported that although men are more likely to die by suicide, females attempt suicide more often than men. How does our society affect these statistics? What is needed for change?

JT: "The two statistics that really stand out to me are these: Untreated depression is the leading cause of suicide, and two out of three people who struggle with depression never get help for it. So i think that's where the focus needs to be: We have to encourage people to get help. Which means we have to push back at the stigma that suggests it's not okay to struggle with depression and it's not okay to talk about it. Those are simply lies. We are working toward a world where it's simply normal to talk about mental health, and it's normal to ask for help. If your car breaks, you take it to a mechanic. If you break your leg or you break your arm, you go to the hospital. Mental health should be the exact same way: If you need help, you get help."

HC: Many Her Campus contributors share their experiences with addiction, depression, self-injury and suicidal thoughts on our site. How can they and our readers get involved with TWLOHA on their campuses or in their community?

JT: "We have a whole section of our website devoted to answering that question:  https://twloha.com/get-involved/ i like to tell people it can be as small as buying a t-shirt or as big as moving to Florida and joining our team, with a whole bunch of options in between."

HC: What has been the most rewarding part of writing and promoting If You Feel Too Much? Of your journey with TWLOHA?

JT: "The most rewarding part of both is that i get to meet people who say they're getting help because of this work i get to do. i meet people who say they're still alive because of TWLOHA. It's hard to imagine anything more rewarding than that."

HC: What’s next – for you and for TWLOHA? Can we expect another book anytime soon?

JT: "For TWLOHA, my hope is that we will continue to be honest and creative and bold in bringing our message to all sorts of people in all sorts of places. From social media to Warped Tour to college campuses to professional sports, i love that we get to exist in all of these different circles at the same time. As for me, i'm going to keep writing and keep speaking and keep playing my part on behalf of TWLOHA. There will definitely be a second book. i'm not sure when but i'm happy to say i've started working on it."

So if you’re too busy to get in for a wax, you can quickly swipe this product under your brows for a clean look.  I’ve even started putting this product on the inner corner or my eyelids and on my nose for a glowing look that is perfect for the beginning of Fall as my tan starts to slip away.

Poland Will Not Ban Abortion After Thousands of Women Protest

Polish Parliament recently tried to propose a bill that would ban abortion in almost all cases, including those of rape and incest. The only exception would be when the life of the mother is threatened. However, when thousands of women skipped work and school Monday to protest the bill, the government reconsidered their decision, according to The Guardian.

The women who protested wore black and held signs with phrases such as "My Body, My Choice" and "Women Just Want To Have FUN-damental Rights." Some even carried hangers or images of hangers—a symbol of DIY abortions women have performed when they didn't have access to safe, legal options.

According to the BBC, Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo is also turning her back on the bill, even going so far as to claim that it might not even exist.

"I want to state very clearly that the PiS (Law and Justice) government is not working on any legislation changing the rules on abortion in Poland," Szydlo said at a news conference on Tuesday.

According to Vox, abortion is already mostly illegal in Poland. Currently, abortion is only allowed in Poland in the case of rape, incest, severe fetal abnormalities or risk to the life of the mother, and doctors sometimes refuse to perform legal abortions as well. This new law would have restricted the practice even more, and would have criminalized abortion with five-year prison sentences for women who had them, according to the BBC. Punishing women who have abortions is considered a radical idea in the U.S., even among pro-life activists—Remember the backlash when Donald Trump briefly supported the idea?

Luckily, the government has decided to drop the issue for now. Ewa Kopacz, a former prime minister of Poland, told the Guardian that “the PiS has backtracked because it was scared by all the women who hit the streets in protest.” The deputy prime minister, Jaroslaw Gowin, told the BBC that the protests had given Parliament "food for thought and certainly taught us humility."

This probably won't be the end of the issue in Poland, but it shows just how powerful political protests can be. Use your right to organize peacefully!

Hurricane Matthew Will Hit Florida Today

Hurricane Matthew has left devastation in its wake and broken meteorological records as the strongest hurricane in recent years—and now it's heading for Florida.

Before making landfall, Matthew was briefly a Category 5 storm, making it the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean in almost a decade. Then Matthew landed in Haiti on Tuesday as a Category 4 hurricane, with winds up to 130 mph. The Associated Press reported at least five people had died in Haiti by Tuesday night, but The New York Times reported on Thursday that the death toll has now risen to over 100 people. Damaging flooding continues to ravage the region and communication systems in some areas are down. Matthew also touched down in Cuba Tuesday night as a Category 4 storm.

Areas affected by the hurricane are experiencing fresh water shortages, overcrowded hospitals and tens of thousands of people in shelters.  “We have already started mobilizing assistance to communities impacted, including providing $400,000 in initial relief assistance to Haiti and Jamaica,” a State Department official told BuzzFeed News.

Experts predict that the storm will cause extremely dangerous weather conditions once it hits Florida and Georgia, with Gov. Rick Scott of Florida telling 1.5 million people to evacuate, according to the Times. Georgia is also attempting to evacuate 500,000 people. The storm is likely to hit Florida late Thursday and continue all day Friday before beginning to affect Georgia and South Carolina on Saturday. USA Today College reports that the University of Central Florida, Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University and Florida Southern College are all closed for the hurricane, among other schools.

Monetary donations to help in relief efforts can be made to the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and UNICEF.

You Can Finally Represent Your Interracial Relationship in Emojis With This New App

The next step in the Emoji revolution is upon us! Thanks to the new Love-Moji app, an extension for your iPhone’s keyboard that was inspired by Richard and Mildred Loving (an interracial couple who fought for interracial marriage legalization in the 1967 U.S. Supreme Court Case Loving v. Virginia, and whose story is chronicled in the upcoming movie Loving), those of us on team iPhone now have access to straight and LGBTQ couples with a range of ethnicities kissing, holding hands or hanging out under hearts, the Huffington Post reports.

This is awesome, because in regular emoji-land you can't even change the skin tone of couple emojis—let alone change one person's skin to one color and the other person's skin to a different color.

It’s been quite a ride getting our emojis to be as inclusive as they are today. It’s only been within the last year that Apple’s standard emojis granted us the ability to change some characters' skin colors, and only the most recent iOS update to 10 that brought us pride flags and career-based emojis available as women, too, according to Teen Vogue. Apple still has a way to go to fully expand their emoji set to include all of us, but Love-Moji offers the perfect fix until that happens.

Love-Moji also follows the August release of EmojiMom, a keyboard extension that includes more than 250 emojis for better discussing pregnancies and motherhood, Cosmopolitan reports.

You can get Love-Moji for free on the App Store or at VoteLoving.com.

Baylor's Title IX Coordinator Resigns Following Claims of University Retaliation

Baylor University’s first full-time Title IX Coordinator has resigned, according to the Waco Tribune-Herald. Patty Crawford announced her resignation late Monday evening in a press release.

This move follows after what Crawford suggests was retaliation against her by higher level university officials for being “too aggressive” in trying to confront problem of sexual assault on campus, The Wall Street Journal reports. Crawford's lawyer claims that limited funding and a lack of cooperation made it difficult for Crawford to do her job—and believed the school was getting in her way intentionally. When she confronted them about this, she was apparently stripped of her Title IX authority.

Mediation attempts between Crawford and the university failed, with reports indicating that she had been offered a settlement worth $1.5 million, which she countered with a request for $2 million and a refusal to sign a confidentiality agreement. When Tonya Lewis, a spokeswoman for Baylor, was asked about those reported figures, she responded that Crawford’s “demand for 1 million dollars was surprising and her request to retain book and movie rights was troubling, and we can’t explain her motivation." Lewis also referenced an interview with Crawford in the Waco Tribune-Herald from August, in which she was very positive about her experience working at the university.

Crawford managed a five-person Title IX office and was the leader of two teams within the Title IX office: Title IX Infrastructure, Resources and Internal Protocols; and Title IX Policy. In addition to those responsibilities, she worked with a case management team, support team and student advisory committee. Under her leadership, Baylor’s Title IX policy was updated regularly.

Baylor is trying to move past a year-long sexual assault scandal, but just this week two more individuals have joined a Title IX lawsuit against the school, claiming that the university failed to properly investigate their cases. The Title IX office didn’t even exist when one of the individuals was assaulted in 2009, but the office discouraged and misinformed the other student when it came to pursuing a case against her assailant in 2015. The Waco Tribune-Herald reports that Pepper Hamilton LLP, a law firm based in Philadelphia, conducted an investigation into how Baylor handles sexual assault claims over a nine month period, and found multiple “institutional failures,” including personnel in the football program failing to report sexual or dating violence outside of the athletics department.

The firm gave 105 recommendations to the university following their investigation, which Baylor is working on implementing.

Chrissy Teigen Made Her Twitter Private—For Good Reason

One of the most candid voices on social media is Chrissy Teigen. She will go in on anyone from Donald Trump to sexist trolls, even if she isn’t the target of their ire. However now her tweets won’t be as easily accessible for some.

After the vice-presidential debate, Teigen switched her Twitter account to private, making it impossible for those who weren’t following her before to see her content (if you were a follower before Oct 5, you’re good). Before trolls start celebrating a victory, or whatever they do, she said that it wasn’t because of any particular thing that was tweeted or said to her. Instead she blames the bad vibes that come with social media in general.

When a fan noticed the change in her account, she replied confirming she had made it private and that she’s “not strong enough anymore.” In a separate tweet she said, “I just feel like I am absorbing bad shit 24/7. My body and mind cannot handle it anymore."

This also comes a few days after she publicly defended her friend Kim Kardashian after people on the internet were grossly gleeful about Kardashian's Paris robbery. If this makes Chrissy happy, then we’re all for it; and she seems to be enjoying herself (although, her follow requests are already in the 5,000s). Plus, her Instagram is still public, so don't worry; we can all still fawn over baby Luna.

The Atlantic Makes its Third Presidential Endorsement in 159 Years

In its founding statement, The Atlantic stated that it would be “the organ of no party or clique,” and it has primarily stuck to its word. Since its founding, The Atlantic has only endorsed three Presidential candidates: Abraham Lincoln, Lyndon B. Johnson and now Hillary Clinton. When you consider that slavery ended under Lincoln's presidency, and that Johnson ran in the midst of the Civil Rights movement, this endorsement seems to feel like a pretty big deal.

The Atlantic's editorial board stated that while Hillary Clinton’s qualifications are impressive, they're mainly concerned about Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump. According to The Atlantic, Trump is the “most ostentatiously unqualified major-party candidate in the 227-year history of the American presidency.”

“Clinton has more than earned, through her service to the country as first lady, as a senator from New York, and as secretary of state, the right to be taken seriously as a White House contender. She has flaws—some legitimately troubling, some exaggerated by her opponents—but she is among the most prepared candidates ever to seek the presidency. We are confident that she understands the role of the United States in the world; we have no doubt that she will apply herself assiduously to the problems confronting this country; and she has demonstrated an aptitude for analysis and hard work,”The Atlantic wrote.

The Atlantic stated that Trump has no record of public service and is not qualified to be President. In addition, it claimed that Trump is “appallingly sexist," erratic and xenophobic.

“Our endorsement of Clinton, and rejection of Trump, is not a blanket dismissal of the many Trump supporters who are motivated by legitimate anxieties about their future and their place in the American economy. But Trump has seized on these anxieties and inflamed and racialized them, without proposing realistic policies to address them,” The Atlantic wrote.

The editorial board ended their endorsement with a bang, saying that Trump is unfit for office and that the American people should “act in defense of American democracy and elect his opponent.”

The Last 'Pretty Little Liars' Table Read Will Make You Cry

We knew this was coming, but Pretty Little Liars has been bae for the last six years and we honestly aren't ready for this show to end. Turns out the Liars aren't either! Yesterday Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson and Sasha Pieterse got together for their last table read and ugly cried as much as you would expect. Even though they still have 15 more days of filming, the reading was an emotional overload for all of them.

Afterward, Lucy Hale posted an epic selfie of the Liars (some of them wearing sunglasses because of too many tears) saying how "this show started and ended with friendship" and she's "not ready to say goodbye." SAME.

However upset we may be, the girls did drop some hints about what's to come. Ashley Benson shared a behind-the-scenes shot of the girls waiting in a police station which could mean anything. Literally, our questions our endless.

Only two more episodes to film with my girls  #PLL

PLL will be showing its final 10 episodes in April 2017, which means we at least have a little bit more time before our world explodes.

Active Shooter Falsely Reported at CU Boulder Just Hours After Police Kill Man with Machete on Campus

Police fatally shot a man carrying a machete inside the Champions Center at the University of Colorado's Folsom Field Wednesday morning after police say the man refused to drop the weapon, the Daily Camera reports.

Police were alerted of the man by text message at 9:15 a.m. Mountain Time. He was was reported as being “menacing” with a machete, Boulder Police spokesman Scott Pribble said in a news briefing, according to CBS. Boulder police and CU police responded to the Champions Center.

Around 9:20 a.m., police reported "shots fired" and police reported that the suspect was down, The Denver Post reports. Police said they ordered the suspect to drop his weapon and he wouldn't do so.

“We just know that he was directed to put the weapon down and refused, and it was at that time, for public safety, that we believe the shots were fired," Pribble said.

According to the Daily Camera, police believe the incident began with an altercation in the parking area outside the Champions Center, where the suspect was brandishing the machete at someone, after which he went inside the Center.

The suspect was reported to have been a white male who appeared to be a “religious zealot” and had been overheard talking about “looking for sinners,” the Daily Camera reports. The suspect had also written religious messages on cars in the parking lot.

The police had scheduled a news briefing for 2:30 p.m. Mountain Time to update the investigation, but the briefing was delayed due to reports of an active shooter at the student union on campus, the Denver Post reports.

According to the CU Police Department, the 911 calls about the active shooter were determined to be a hoax—but not before causing confusion and fear among students, Fox 31 reports. At about 2:40 p.m. Mountain Time, officials said, “No current threats to campus. UMC & Champions Center closed rest of day for investigations. Classes & campus operations continue as normal.”

Malia Obama is Preparing to Leave the White House & Face the Media on Her Own

$

First Daughter Malia Obama has had a year of ups and downs, celebrating life changes like graduating from high school and selecting a college, but also receiving some unfortunate attention from the press in a way she has never experienced before. That's the subject of a new BuzzFeed feature exploring how Malia will interact with the media once she leaves the White House.

While Malia and her little sister Sasha were deemed off-limits from the press for all of their father's presidency, Malia has found herself a media target after turning 18. This year alone, the press snatched a video of her dancing at music festival Lollapalooza, where someone else filmed her allegedly smoking pot. When she announced she would take a gap year before attending Harvard, she received harsh racist attention. Even her own peers have released footage disturbing the First Daughter's privacy—Brown University students apologized after someone photographed Malia at a beer pong table while she was visiting the college.

In 2009, White House security faced the challenge of protecting a First Family's minor children for the first time since the Bill Clinton was in office. According to BuzzFeed, Secret Service agents use a "zone of privacy" system to keep the press in line when underage kids are at risk. This entails strict supervision over any photos taken of the First Daughters at private events—Malia is so protected that the White House reportedly went into DEFCON 1 mode just to remove photos of her out at a restaurant.

The press has been iffy about following these privacy requests, with some journalists not caring enough to bother covering the girls, and others ignoring the rules completely. "Any decent journalist would laugh out loud if asked to turn a blind eye to news at the White House just because it involved the Obama daughters," a reporter told BuzzFeed.

Regardless of the press's negative treatment of Malia, we can't help but think that she's on her way to do amazing things. She's scored cool internships, has on-point fashion and can easily talk politics with her dad. Although she and her sister will one day be expected to carry on their parents' legacy, now's the time for them to be young and have fun. Whether or not the media decides to give Malia more attention as she goes out into the world, we'll be rooting for her.
