I Can't Believe People Are Saying Kim Kardashian Was 'Asking' to Be Robbed

By Jacqueline Wostrel

It seems to me that people have a bit of an issue putting themselves in the shoes of another living human being. Kim Kardashian, for all the money she has, was robbed at gunpoint while she was in Paris Sunday night, and for some reason people are making this out to be a laughing matter. Thankfully, her kids weren’t with her. I’m sure she and her husband, Kanye West, are both thankful for that too. Some people are acting like this is something to be laughed at: a person who could have had their kids with them being tied to a chair and robbed. Others, the good folks that give me faith that this world isn’t all bad, are standing up to the haters and letting people know that this is not something to poke fun at. Here's what I think we need to be considering in the aftermath of this crime.

1. Kim Kardashian, even with all of that money and recognition, is still just as human as you and I.

People seem to forget somewhere along timeline of a woman gathering fame and fortune that celebrities are still human, and capable of losing everything. She’s got people who care for her, and want her to be safe and happy. When the robbers took that safety from her, they violated her. I don’t understand why people seem to be brushing this off.

Celebrities are humans too; they’re just humans that are all over the media. They do things to entertain the public, but that doesn't mean anything they do is game for us to mock and laugh at. Fame alone is not an invitation for cruel things to happen.

Although they don’t get as much privacy as people who work as teachers, construction workers or hotel managers, they still have private parts of their lives. But the public they perform for doesn’t allow them to have privacy. When things like this robbery happen, the public should not shame Kim, or blame her. We should rally behind her and support her.

2. Her sense of personal safety was violated, so why are we bringing up Taylor Swift again??

This is just incredibly stupid for so many different reasons. First off, that’s so much effort for Taylor Swift to have someone steal $10 million from Kim in Paris over something that is, to be completely honest, old news. Taylor Swift is worth $200 million. She doesn’t need it, and I doubt she wants to start the drama back up.

Women are still being stereotyped as catty. Even a person who is catty, whether they have a vagina or not, would probably not go through the effort it takes to stage a robbery. And besides the effort, it's just incredibly cruel. Kim being in a situation she could not escape is not a laughing matter, nor is it one, I imagine, that you’d love to be in yourself.  Do not use the feud that happened ages ago between Kim and Taylor as a way to make this into a joke. News flash: This isn't a funny situation.

3. Despite all the terrible people, there are some brilliant humans who tried to be there for Kim.

Chrissy Teigen and James Corden promptly shut down the haters. Hello, lights at the end of the tunnel. Thank you. Thanks for being brave enough to invite trolls (who should really just be called bullies) on to your social media feeds, and for speaking out for a woman who is being treated as a joke when she was terrorized in her own hotel room. Kim had something happen to her that no one would wish on themselves, but because she is a celebrity some people think that she somehow invited this into her life. Again: She was not ‘asking for it’.

Speaking out doesn’t have to be on the internet, where bullies will show up. You can gently correct a friend when they laugh at a joke, smashing this culture before it spreads. You can stop fueling the fire of hate on your own social media. You can walk like you talk. You can treat others the way you would like to be treated.

This woman is a human being. Her social status is higher than most, but that doesn’t make her less human. I shouldn’t have to say that.

The 10 Most Epic College Halloween Celebrations

$

They say that acceptance is the first step to recovery, so we’re just going to say it: we are too old for trick-or-treating. Instead of running around our neighborhoods with bags full of Kit Kat bars and Twizzlers, we have upgraded to dressing up as provocative animals (à la Mean Girls) and partying on frat row. However, some campuses beat most colleges’ Halloween-themed frat parties with some seriously awesome traditions. Don’t believe us? Check out these 10 spooky celebrations, ranked in order of epicness.

10. Harvey Mudd College’s Halloweiner

Imagine if your two favorite holidays—tailgating season (which basically is one holiday) and Halloween—joined forces to create an out-of-this-world celebration. At Harvey Mudd College, that fantasy is a reality. To start off their Halloween festivities with a bang, students barbeque hundreds (yes, hundreds) of pounds of meat for the entire student body. Halloweiner is basically a tailgate for this highly anticipated holiday.

9. SUNY Geneseo’s Halloweekend

Every collegiette knows that Halloween is no longer a one-night extravaganza, but at SUNY Geneseo, Halloweekend is more than a slew of frat parties. The festivities start with students rooting for their school’s hockey team… in costume.

“Freshman year, my guy friends went as Braveheart in full kilts and school-colored face paint a la Mel Gibson,” says Megan Killea, a graduate of SUNY Geneseo. “My girlfriends and I went as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

The celebration continues with a street fair on Geneseo’s Main Street, which includes a Halloween parade as well as cider donuts—be still, our hearts.

“Even the college kids come out to see it,” adds Megan. “They get their daily dose of nostalgia and innocence before they go home and start pregaming in their costumes.” Meshed with a plethora of Halloween–themed parties, what could be better?

8. UNC-Chapel Hill’s Celebration on Franklin Street

Parades are one thing, but not many towns shut down an entire street to celebrate Halloween. Franklin Street, which is right by UNC-Chapel Hill’s campus, is one of the coolest places to be on this frightful night. On Halloween night, the town of Chapel Hill blocks off Franklin Street so college students and residents can roam the empty street. Translation? You and your friends can dress up in crazy costumes and have a few drinks (if you’re of legal age, that is).

“I've heard that it's so popular that other schools in North Carolina send busloads of students to Chapel Hill that night, although I know the police department has tried to discourage that,” says Alex Gladu, a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill and HC’s Life Editor.

According to the town of Chapel Hill’s website, this event attracts anywhere from 30,000 people (in 2013) to a whopping 80,000 attendees (in 2007). Between the large traffic this celebration receives and the ghoulish Halloween spirit, it’s no surprise that authorities have tightened up security. In 2008, Town Manager Roger L. Stancil initiated Homegrown Halloween, which strives to reduce crowd sizes and keep Franklin Street safe.

Since safety comes first and foremost, don’t be surprised if this street-wide celebration closes early or there are a lot of police officers patrolling the area—not just cute frat boys dressed up as cops!

7. Pennsylvania State University’s Pumpkin Festival

From selecting the perfect pumpkin at the patch to sketching out a spooky design to cooking pumpkin seeds, creating a jack-o’-lantern is arguably one of the best parts of Halloween. Penn State recognizes just how important carving a pumpkin is and has dedicated a weeklong celebration to the cause. Though this event is only two years old, this annual collection of jack-o’-lantern festivities merits a spot on our coveted list.

“It’s nice that Penn State and the surrounding community of State College is offering an alternative way to celebrate the holiday rather than just by drinking,” says Erica Kasan, a senior at Penn State. “It doesn’t matter if you’re 10 or 21, Halloween can still be celebrated by everyone in a safe and fun [manner].”

In addition to refreshments, music and crafts, this school’s pumpkin festival also features a pumpkin carving competition. For a very retro twist, winners are rewarded with old-fashioned ribbons. Festive and nostalgic, a good ole carving competition is impossible to resist.

6. MIT’s Pumpkin Drop

Unless you have a knack for parabolas or physics, your ideal pre-Halloween extravaganza probably doesn’t include solving mathematical equations. But what if we told you that MIT’s highly academic event includes smashing frozen pumpkins? Um, what?

Just a few days before Halloween, students and friends watch a select group of classmates drop pumpkins off of the campus’s Green Building, which is 295 feet high. Participants are required to calculate which conditions would make the biggest splash—pun intended. After considering the height, velocity and other factors, these pumpkin smashers are required to put their calculations to the test. Whether or not you have an aptitude for science, how epic do exploding pumpkins sound?

5. UCLA’s All-Hill Halloween

While Halloween frat parties sound fun, they’re all missing one thing: candy. We may be too old to go door to door and beg for candy, but that doesn’t mean we have to outgrow the trick-or-treating spirit. Every year, more than 2,500 elementary and middle schoolers are invited to trick-to-treat all around UCLA’s campus. Instead of going from house to house, attendees go from dorm to dorm. How cute!

“UCLA has always been big about giving back to the community, and All-Hill Halloween is a great example of that,” says Ekta Partani, a senior at UCLA and a HC Campus Correspondent. “It gives these kids a chance to have a safe and fun Halloween. Plus it's absolutely adorable to see all the kids running around in their costumes!”

And when you’re stocking up on delicious sweets for your trick-or-treaters, grab a bag of Hershey’s Kisses for yourself—you deserve it.

4. Georgetown University’s Healy Howl

“Did you know that [insert movie here] was shot at this school?” asks almost every campus tour guide ever. At this point, we feel like we know it all: tidbits of 21 were filmed at Boston University, Johns Hopkins University made a cameo in The Social Network, and The Five-Year Engagement was set at the University of Michigan. But did you know that parts of The Exorcist were filmed at Georgetown University? In fact, collegiettes and collegents gather every Halloween to watch the 1973 film on Copley Lawn or in Gaston Hall.

"Watching The Exorcist in Gaston Hall is something that every Georgetown student should do at least once before they graduate,” says Lacey Henry, a senior at Georgetown University and HC Campus Correspondent. “It will definitely make you think twice before using the infamous Exorcist stairs on your way down to M Street!"

Since the movie ends around midnight, students then go to the campus’s cemetery and howl at the moon when the clock strikes 12. Spooky.

3. Texas A&M’s Wicked Woods Haunted Trail

It sounds like something out of a horror movie: a group of fun-loving collegiettes take a spontaneous trip into the woods… only to discover there’s a crazed killer or supernatural creature on the loose who is out to get them. Texas A&M’s Kappa Sigma chapter is set to recreate this horrifying scene for the eighteenth year. And let’s just say this is more epic than your run-of-the-mill fraternity fundraiser. Texas A&M’s student newspaper, The Battalion, reports that this event takes months of preparation, and more than 4,000 people attend the festivities. As the fifth largest haunted trail/house in Texas, according to the fraternity’s website, this scary walk takes attendees through five acres of backwoods. Can we say scariest 15 minutes of our lives?

But before you chicken out of attending this event, don’t forget that this has a philanthropic motive. Proceeds from this fundraiser go to various charitable organizations. If it’s for charity, perhaps we can charge through this trail!

2. University of Rochester’s Scare Fair

To be perfectly honest, libraries give us the creeps: anxiety-inducing aisles, fluorescent lights and the very slim chance that a secret passageway will open as soon as you grab that book off the shelf all make us a little freaked out. So it makes perfect sense that the University of Rochester hosts its famed Scare Fair at Rush Rhees, the school’s main library. For more than 80 years, Rush Rhees has been transformed into a haunted house, which also features a scavenger hunt. And let’s just say the prize is a lot cooler than a gift card to your favorite on-campus burrito restaurant.

“Winners get to go up the old, usually restricted elevators and take a tour of Rush Rhees tower,” says Katherine Varga, a senior at the University of Rochester. “This includes walking around on the dome that overlooks campus and parts of Rochester, [which is] a big deal [because] the only other time people are allowed up there is during Senior Week.”

If spooky scavenger hunts aren’t your thing, the Scare Fair has also been known to display spiders and snakes from the Seneca Park Zoo, as well as some bands from the university. Spooky, but amazing.

1. Ohio University’s Halloween Block Party

You probably attended several block parties when you were growing up, but Ohio University’s spooky variation puts your cul-de-sac’s soiree to shame (but we’re sure your neighborhood’s version of a block party was just lovely). Located in Athens, Ohio, right by this party school’s campus, this festivity is like a costume party for you and 20,000 of your coolest friends. This year, Athens’s annual event is set to have food and art vendors as well as live music. Though the block party is a great time to get dressed up and hang out with your friends, it can get a little wild.

“Our school paper always reports the number of arrests on the front page of [the next day’s issue], and the majority of them are kids who are visiting from other schools who just wanted to get rowdy,” says Madelyn Gaither, a recent graduate from Ohio University. In 2012, The Athens Messenger reported that 80 attendees were arrested, many for alcohol-related reasons. If you decide to pack your bags and head to Ohio this year, be careful—having a rap sheet is so not collegiette-approved.

Does your school have a totally epic Halloween tradition? Sound off below!

The Details of Kim Kardashian's Escape After Being Robbed Are Terrifying

As you've probably already heard, Kim Kardashian was held at gunpoint and robbed while staying at l’Hotel de Pourtalès in Paris. Multiple men dressed as police officers "bound and gagged" her, according to Cosmopolitan.com, and locked her in a bathroom while they stole more than $10 million worth of jewelry.

Now, new details about how Kim escaped and was able to call for help have emerged.

A source close to Kim told People she "was tied up, and gagged with duct tape wrapped around her head. They put plastic ties around her wrists but she managed to squeeze her hands out of the wrist ties by wriggling her hands." They also said Kim "was hysterical but not screaming as she knew she had to keep quiet to survive."

A different source said that once Kim was free from the ties, she ran to the balcony and screamed for help. Simone Harouche, her friend and former stylist, heard her and texted Kim's bodyguard, who rushed back to the hotel to meet them. E! News reported that Kim still had duct tape on her legs when Harouche ran to meet her.

These details make the story even scarier, and we still can't believe it happened. Stay strong, Kim!

Demi Lovato Slams Taylor Swift For Feuding With Katy Perry

Certain things Demi Lovato said in an interview with Glamour are creating even more bad blood between her and the "Bad Blood" queen herself.

Demi already called on "a certain feminist," who many think is Taylor Swift, in February to speak out about Kesha's lawsuit against Dr. Luke, and she's continuing to vocalize how she feels about the star.

"But I think in certain situations, certain people could be doing more if they’re going to claim that as part of their brand," she told Glamour. "To be honest, and this will probably get me in trouble, I don’t see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body. It’s kind of this false image of what people should look like. And what they should be like, and it’s not real.”

We don't know any other squad she'd be referencing besides Taylor's. She also called Taylor out for her Katy Perry-bashing hit "Bad Blood."

“I think that having a song and video about tearing Katy Perry down, that’s not women’s empowerment," she said. "We all do things that aren’t, but I have to ask myself, Am I content with calling myself a feminist? Yes, because I speak out.”

Demi has since been defending her comments on Twitter, claiming that she won't apologize "for saying what everyone want[s] to say."

Caroline Welles On What It's Like to Work for Hillary Clinton

Name: Caroline Welles
Age: 26
Job Title: Field Assistant, Ohio Together, The Ohio Democratic Coordinated Campaign
College Name/Major: University of Edinburgh, Sociology
Twitter Handle: @Wishing_Welles

1. What does your current job entail? Is there a such thing as a typical day?

I work on the organizing team in the great state of Ohio. OH-IO! I work alongside the Organizing Director and the Deputy Organizing Directors to help register voters, recruit new volunteers, get people to the polls, and most important, elect Hillary Clinton the first woman to be President of the United States of America.

There’s no such thing as a typical day on a campaign, but that’s my favorite thing about it. I could spend the morning in our Ohio Headquarters assessing our hiring needs and then head off to Cleveland to help with a Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine rally, and then run a statewide call with organizers that evening go over how we did in communities in every corner of the state. It’s an all hands on deck and we’re all proud to work together in order to elect Hillary Clinton as President of the United States.

2. What's the best part of your job?

Aside from doing everything I can to elect Hillary Clinton, the people I get to work with to elect her! Campaigns are demanding, but working alongside some of the smartest and talented people I’ve ever met makes for a great support system. Even on the longest days, we take great comfort and pride in working to send Hillary Clinton to the White House.

3. How did you get from your first entry level job out of college to where you are now?

I’ve always been interested in politics, but pursuing a career in campaigning didn’t cross my mind until Secretary Clinton announced her candidacy. I knew the election would be historic, and I couldn’t watch from the sideline.

In college, I ran events and coordinated fashion shows. After college, I pursued a career in print media. I didn’t expect to end up in Iowa, Colorado, Washington or Ohio, let alone all four in less than a year, but I’m so grateful for the twists and turns that brought me here, working to elect one of the most qualified candidates to ever run for President.

4. What has it been like working in politics during this election cycle? If you worked on previous campaigns, how is this one different?

This is my first campaign, but we’ve all seen how different this election is than years prior. Despite the differences, the choice in this election couldn’t be clearer. Hillary Clinton has the experience and steadiness to bring people together and get real results, and Donald Trump is temperamentally unfit and unqualified to be president. It is easy to let his negativity or divisiveness bring down our enthusiasm, but we can't let that happen. The stakes could not be higher.

5. What advice do you have for young women who are interested in working in politics?

Volunteer! Most campuses have college groups you can get involved with or you can find opportunities outside of school. You can volunteer during your spare time or full time during vacations. It’s a great way to start your career in campaigns or politics. Find an issue or candidate you believe in and get involved. Make connections, find mentors and learn the ins and outs of political campaigns.

If you’re looking for a great example, look at the way Hillary Clinton started her career. One of the first women admitted to Yale Law, a civil rights activist, and long time advocate for women and families. Hillary Clinton found the issues she cared about and fought for them. She continued to do so as the First Lady of Arkansas, the First Lady of the United States, the U.S. Senator from New York, and as the Secretary of State. Just as she’ll do as President of the United States.

6. What has been the most surreal moment of your work on this campaign?

Two moments: The first was when Secretary Clinton thanked me for my work at an event in North Liberty, Iowa in front of 500 people—there were literal stars in my eyes.

The second moment that stands out is when a voter told me he caucused for Hillary Clinton because I called him and talked to him about the issues and the importance of this election. That was the moment I realized that my work makes a difference. These are the moments that motivate me to continue fighting for Hillary Clinton, just like she will fight for us.

7. What's your favorite piece of political pop culture, and why? (TV show, movie, book, etc - for ex. House of Cards)

The West Wing is an obvious favorite. Madam Secretary is also there, but that’s probably not a surprise given the candidate I’m currently working to elect. I couldn't be more excited that Josh, Toby, CJ, Charlie and several other members of the cast went to Ohio in support of Hillary Clinton!

Survey Finds That Young Women Don't Feel Good About Themselves or the Future

Young women are stressed about money, nervous about the future and unsure about EVER being a real adult—Sound familiar? If you've been feeling less than hyped about how your life is going, you’re far from alone, according to the findings of a recent survey conducted by The Young Women's Trust in Great Britan. The survey focused on young people between the ages of 18-30 years old, and the results cast light on some surprising and disturbing issues young people across the world are facing today.

Young People Are Worried About the Money, Money, Money

Unlike Jessie J, young people are worried about the money. More and more young people facing financial hardships, with pressure like student debt and the cost of living making it incredibly difficult to live independently. The survey found that 39 percent of young women struggled to make their cash last until the end of the month, in comparison to 27 percent of young men. They would even consider moving abroad it that meant they would be more financially stable.

We're Putting off "Adulting"

Results from the survey also found that young people overall are putting off major life events like starting a family and living on their own. Almost a quarter of all young people moved back home with their parents because they couldn't afford to live without their help. And it’s not like they’re choosing this situation—30 percent of young women and 26 percent of young men were concerned about not getting enough paid hours at work to make ends meet. Worst of all, only 35 percent of young women felt confident about changing careers. Ladies, you can do this!

Issues at the Workplace go WAY Beyond an Annoying Coworker or Boss

For those of us lucky enough to have jobs, four out of 10 people are worried about their job security. We're questioning the security of our jobs, the pay at our jobs as well as the treatment at our jobs. You might not think this applies to you, but unions can be awesome resource to that will help make change happen at work. Less than 31 percent of young people said they would turn to a trade union for advice about their rights if they were being treated unfairly at work. They are more likely to complain to their friends, spouse or human resources. When it comes to women in particular, 72 percent think that sexual discrimination is present in the workplace, compared to 54 percent of young men. Disturbingly, 40 percent of the those whom the survey refers to as Black, Asian, Minority and Ethnic young people said they faced discrimination in work situations. And over half of women ages 18-24 felt discriminated against because of their age.

Young People Need an Overall Confidence Boost

Over half of young women lack self-confidence and are worried for the future, the survey reports. This is a big differences from the 2015 survey which found only 33 percent of young people were worried about the future. Even more worrisome is the fact that 22 percent of young women felt they were depressed. Women aren't feeling empowered or excited for the future, and less than half of young people agree that people like them can achieve whatever they want to in life. But is any of this surprising when young people are facing economic uncertainty, discrimination at work and the prospect of never being able to live on their own? Cue crying emoji.

While this survey takes place in Great Britan, it touches on a number of crucial issues that young people are facing today all over the world. As I was writing this piece I thought about what my answers to these questions would be. Do I have as much confidence as I say I do? And even more important, how can these negative attitudes change? I think it starts with body positivity movements, frank discussion about mental illness, and proactive financial moves.

Here’s What You Need to Know about Gun Control & The Presidential Election

$

0

When it comes to gun control, most politicians are either totally for it, or totally against it – and Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are no exception. We all know that Trump fully supports Second Amendment rights, and that Clinton wants stricter gun laws, but what do each of them actually plan to do about gun control while in office?

Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton is taking a more reserved stance on gun control in this election than she has in the past. According to her official campaign site, she says that while Americans “may have our disagreements on gun safety regulations,” there are a few things she thinks all voters can rally behind.

One of these is expanding background checks to apply to all gun sales, including transactions that take place online and at gun shows. Many believe that this is a good compromise, because it doesn’t create any additional firearm legislation; it merely ensures that we are reinforcing the laws already in place.

Another aspect of her platform includes ensuring that domestic abusers, violent criminals, and the “severely mentally ill,” are unable to purchase firearms.

“If you’re too dangerous to get on a plane, you are too dangerous to buy a gun in America,” she said in June.

This notion is controversial, because it calls for an increased amount of legislation, something that National Rifle Association (NRA), a major contributor to many Republicans, is hesitant to allow. While Clinton claims that she will fight against gun lobbyists like these, she will struggle to get past the Republican-majority Congress, who are adamant about protecting Second Amendment rights.

Additionally, her past political work fighting against gun rights that has some concerned that she will change to a more strict platform once elected.

Donald Trump

“The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period,” Donald Trump writes on his campaign site, clearly stating his view on the matter.

He is completely opposed to banning guns and magazines, claiming that the terms “assault” and “military-style” weapons are used only to scare the public. “Law-abiding people should be allowed to own the firearm of the choice,” he says.

Trump does mention that the right to guns “belongs [only] to all law-abiding Americans,” and, like Clinton, he wants to enforce the laws already “on the books,” and ensure that violent felons don’t have access to firearms. Unlike Clinton, however, he feels that people who want guns will get them somehow or another, and that adding background checks to gun shows and online sales will be ineffective.

Finally, in light of recent events, Trump wants to ensure that military members can carry on bases and in recruiting centers, which they are not allowed to do now. This will involve a change in federal law, but may help protect servicemen and women, considering that they are all highly trained to use these weapons.

Trump’s opinions vary distinctly from Clinton’s, but both are aware that our current gun control legislation isn’t working, and they’re actively developing ways to fix it.

The right to bear arms can be a tricky and controversial topic, but it’s important to think about as we head into the election. Remember, while your university can opt to ban guns inside the buildings, the outdoor common areas are generally public spaces, meaning that if guns are allowed in public, they’re allowed on the quad!

Keep this in mind as you make your final decisions on who you’re going to vote for this November.

Face-Eating College Student Charged With Murder

Earlier this year, Florida, which never fails to disappoint in strange stories, delivered the rest of the world a REAL doozy. On Aug. 14, a teenager was allegedly found eating the face of a man who he was accused of murdering (*super shudder*). Now, he is being charged with their murder and a slew of other charges. On Monday, Austin Harrouff, a 19-year-old former college student, was charged with two counts of first degree murder, one count of attempted murder, resisting arrest and burglary, according to NBC News.

Harrouff is accused of the heinous murder of a Floridian couple, Michelle Mischon and John Stevens. The couple were found on the floor of their garage, stabbed to death with "weapons of opportunity"—aka stuff they had in their garage—according to the police. Harrouff, who attended Florida State University, is also accused of having stabbed a neighbor who attempted to intervene, and who survived the attack. At the time of the arrest, the police believed he had consumed a synthetic drug like flakka or bath salts, but he later told police he had not consumed any drugs. The FBI blood test, however, has not been released. Authorities stated he was making animal sounds, and that not even a stun gun or a police dog was enough to subdue him. According to the police, there is still no apparent motive to the crime. Harrouff was also found not wearing any pants.

Harrouff was hospitalized after the arrest, with authorities believing he had consumed a dangerous chemical. He was in a coma for 11 days, and it was believed he might not survive. The police also reported he could not speak to them for three weeks after his arrest.

It is unclear at this time if Harrouf has a lawyer. Harrouff is being held without bond in the Martin County jail.

This New Hampshire Senator Called Donald Trump a Role Model, Then Tried to Take it Back

No matter how you slice this election season, there is no way Donald Trump comes out looking like a role model. Not in terms of business, feminism, peace or politics—not even in beauty (that coiff and ultra light under eye concealer...not a good look). Trump is just not someone you'd want to emulate, period. But when Sen. Kelly Ayotte was asked whether or not she would call Trump a role model, she said, "Absolutely, I would do that."

Sen. Ayotte (R) of New Hampshire was appearing in a televised debate with New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan (D) at the time of the quote. Governor Hassan is challenging the incumbent Senator for her Senate seat. During the debate, the Senator was asked by the moderator whether or not she would qualify Trump as a role model for her children. Sen. Ayotte, who describes herself as a moderate Republican, responded with, "... I think that there are certainly many role models that we have and I absolutely believe he could serve as President, so absolutely I would do that."

However, when pressed on why she hadn't endorsed Trump if she thought so highly of him, the Senator cited her disagreements with the candidate. "... I've had some disagreements with him and I've been quite clear about those disagreements." She then used the opportunity to fire back at her opponent, accusing Gov. Hassan of being in "lockstep" with Secretary Clinton by not openly voicing her concerns or critiquing her in public.

However, Sen. Ayotte could not escape the wrath and confusion of the voters, despite her attempt to cover the statement with an attack. Social media lit up with with Tweets questioning the judgement of the Senator, asking why she would call anyone a role model who constantly treats people with disrespect.

In a statement hours later, the Senator retracted her words, stating she had misspoken earlier in the debate: "I misspoke earlier tonight. While I hope all of our children would aspire to be president, neither Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton have set a good example and I wouldn't hold up either of them as role models for my kids."

Gov. Hassan pounced on the retraction and accused the Senator of playing politics by trying to create distance from the polarizing nominee. Social media didn't let up either, with Tweets calling the Senator "spineless" and "full of it."

Sen. Ayotte is the only Senator in her region to support the Republican nominee, and, by all accounts, the fight for her seat is extremely competitive. So we'll see how this turns out for her.

7 Makeup Brands That Are Actually Good For Women of Color

If you flip through any fashion magazine or scroll through your Instagram feed, you’re bound to come across some sort of makeup advertisement within minutes. Whether it’s Gigi Hadid’s smiling face in her Maybelline campaign, or one of Kylie Jenner’s numerous posts promoting her line of cosmetics, there are so many brands out there to choose from. The problem isn’t finding a brand, it’s finding a brand that works for you – especially when it comes to women of color. Although brands boast about their ability to make your lips pop or give you flawless coverage, often times it doesn’t feel like they offer a broad enough range of products for all skin tones. For women of color, even attempting to buy makeup in the drugstore can become a major ordeal. Luckily, there are some makeup brands that realize makeup isn’t one-size fits all, so here are seven brands that have women of color in mind.

1. Iman Cosmetics

If you can’t trust the makeup products of a world-renowned supermodel, who also happened to break down color barriers in the fashion industry, then who can you trust? Iman has been praised for pioneering cosmetics for women of color. During her career, she was told that black women don’t buy foundation, motivating her to create the perfect foundation for POC. She was among the first cosmetic producers to come out with a BB cream for women with darker skin tones, and her brand, which launched in 1994, is still going strong and provides makeup for Latina, Asian and African-American women. The line includes eye and lip makeup, foundation and skincare products.

2. Milani

Not only does Milani present cosmetics for a variety of skin tones, it’s also super affordable! For any collegiette looking for better lipstick and blush options, this brand has got you covered. Both the lipstick and blush ranges come in tons of shades that work with every skin tone. Milani will be your new drugstore go-to, so you no longer have to wander the aisles looking for the perfect hue.

3. Fashion Fair

The creator of the Ebony Fashion Show, Eunice W. Johnson, launched this brand, and she got her inspiration from the skin tones at the fashion show itself. That means that this line was created specifically to meet the needs of women of color–a feat that some major brands won’t even attempt to take on. Their foundation is the thing of dreams because not only does it account for ladies with darker skin, but it also does a great job of matching with undertones as well!

4. Kylie Cosmetics

Up untill this point, Kylie’s lip kits have primarily operated under the idea that peach nude is a good shade for every skin tone, but it appears that she's finally beginning to expand the color range of her kits. Her new shade “Brown Sugar” has received praise for complementing darker skin tones. To debut the new shade, Kylie posted a picture of her friends of varying skin tones modeling the shades to show that it is a beautiful color for both dark and light-skinned women. Although she definitely still has some work to do in order to make her line friendlier to women of color, we are excited about the possibility of seeing more flattering shades for POC in the future!

5. Cover FX

Although it’s a new brand, Cover FX has already gotten a rep for delivering a natural look for all skin tones. Many POC beauty vloggers like Vicky Logan and Alissa Ashley rave about this brand because it’s so customizable. Its product, Custom Drops, allows women to mix together tinted moisturizer, moisturizer and sunscreen to create a unique blend that perfectly matches their skin tone. This is a brand that is definitely ahead of its time, but we aren’t complaining!

6. Sleek

Now, you might not have heard of this brand, but that’s because it’s based in the UK. Not to worry though – their online store is on point, and once you see the fabulous products you will understand why it’s worth the wait! Sleek’s big sellers are their eyeshadow palette and face contouring kits. The best part about the kit is that it isn’t just offered in one shade. There are light, medium and dark options to encompass as many different skin tones as possible. Anyone and everyone can have a strong contour game with Sleek Cosmetics.

7. Covergirl Queen Collection

Easy, breezy, beautiful and diverse. Not only is this line super affordable, but it has so many different products to choose from. The collection features foundation, lip gloss, lipstick and eyeshadow. The brand was created in collaboration with actress, Queen Latifah and is made specifically for darker skin tones. If you’re looking for a new lipstick to add to your personal collection, this Covergirl collection will be one of your new favorites. For any ladies looking for the perfect nude, Nude Attitude is a must-have.

Although it might not seem like it when you walk into the drugstore, there really are so many amazing makeup brands out there that make products that cater to all skin tones. Whether you’re searching the drugstore or browsing online, keep these options in mind for products that will give you the makeup selections you deserve.

College is a time to learn, make memories, find yourself and yada yada yada. Those are just some of the things we think about when it comes to school. Other things that come to mind sadly include student loans, credit cards and part-time jobs. College comes with a price tag, and it can get a little ridiculous—how can we survive without budgeting for coffee and our Netflix subscriptions? Here are just some of the crazy things we spend our money on in college.

1. Textbooks you will probably use once during the whole semester

2. Tuition so steep you're left wondering where it all goes…

3. Rent or housing for a shared cinderblock room

4. Chipotle and food in general because late-night study sessions and Netflix binges both require fuel

5. Gas money and Ubers for those nights you have to get off campus

6. Alcohol for Sunday Funday, Wine Wednesdays, Turn-Up Tuesdays, Sippin Saturdays and basically any time you need a drink

7. Spring Break is only something you can do when you're in college, so treat yourself and book that all-inclusive trip to Cabo

8. *Necessary* monthly subscriptions including Netflix, Spotify and Amazon Prime

9. Dorm decor is a right of passage, and Home Goods is calling your name

10. A bed bug cover may be the most important purchase of your college career

11. A mini fridge to hold your leftover Chinese food and those groceries you shouldn't have bought from Trader Joe's

12. New kicks because you'll be walking around campus and running to class

Plus, healthy feet = lit

13. A functioning laptop or computer is a must, but don't forget those programs you're required to buy like that random language software or everyone's fave, Excel

14. One word: coffee

15. Time is money, so spend both wisely while making the most of your college experience

5 Must-See Moments From the Vice-Presidential Debate

$
0
0

Tonight was the one and only Vice-Presidential Debate—the night where we get to see two guys, whom we previously may have known only as jars of mayonnaise, take the stage to prove they can hold their own on issues from the Syrian conflict to reproductive rights. Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia spent most of the night contrasting Hillary Clinton’s impressive resume with Donald Trump’s litany of cringeworthy insults, while Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana seemed to want to avoid talking about Trump at all costs. And both of them were dead-set on interrupting each other, and moderator Elaine Quijano, as much as possible. If you couldn’t watch the debate Tuesday (or just didn’t want to) here are five must-see moments from the night.

1. Pence started off by thanking the wrong university.

Pence started off the debate by thinking “Norwood University” for hosting. The only problem? They were at Longwood University in Farmville, Va. Oops! It’s fine though, we all make mistakes.

2. Kaine listed the many, many insults Trump’s made against women, Mexicans and others. Pence countered with “deplorables.”

In a debate tactic that many think may have harmed Kaine’s popularity among viewers, the Senator insisted upon reciting long lists of quotes from Trump, and frequently interrupted Pence to check his facts and hammer home Trump's problems. He reminded viewers that Trump has called women “pigs” and “slobs,” has suggested banning all Muslims from entering the country, and has called Mexicans rapists and criminals—overall running an “insult-driven” campaign.

Pence’s answer was that Clinton and Kaine are the insult-driven campaign, given that Clinton called half of Trump’s supporters a “basket of deplorables” less than a month ago.

3. Pence accused Kaine of “whipping out that Mexican thing again.”

During an answer about the two candidates’ faith lives and how they incorporate religion into their politics, Kaine brought up Trump’s comments about Mexicans being rapists again. Pence, shaking his head, said, “Senator, you’ve whipped out that Mexican thing again.” Despite the fact that those words in that order are just hilarious, the comment showed Pence making light of a racist and hurtful comment that has seriously affected people’s view of Trump’s character—not a great look. Clinton has already capitalized by redirecting “thatmexicanthing.com” to her campaign website.

4. Kaine went to bat for a woman’s right to choose.

Pence is known for being pro-life—in his time as governor of Indiana he's worked hard to pass legislation that will roll back reproductive rights. But after he talked about the “value and worth of every human life” and treating our society’s “most vulnerable” well, Kaine asked him, “Why don’t you trust women? Why doesn’t Donald Trump trust women?” He made the great point that while it’s fine to present women with choices like adoption, we need to have confidence that every woman will make the right choice for her life, body and family—and that choice may be abortion.

5. They talked over each other. A lot.

Much of the debate was just the two VP candidates interrupting and talking over each other. There were even moments when moderator Elaina Quijano joined the fray for a while, making it almost impossible to figure out what anyone was saying. So much for time limits and sticking to the point—both candidates just wanted to get the most words in edgewise.

5 Things You Should Know About Going to College in a Big City

$

Going to school in a big city will hugely impact your college experience. From the food to the activities off campus to your job prospects after college, urban schools have a million things to offer. This kind of environment isn’t for everyone, though, so you’ll want to know what to expect if you’re thinking about going to college in a big city.

With that in mind, we reached out to some in-the-know collegiettes for their take on urban schools. Read on for our top five tips for life as a college student in a big city! Don’t worry, you’ll be Carrie Bradshaw-ing it in no time.

1. You might not have a campus, so explore!

Depending on which city schools you’re looking at, you might not have the typical campus layout. Your dorm, dining hall and class buildings could be scattered across several blocks in a given city. While this may be a weird adjustment and make you feel like there isn’t really a campus at all, it just means you should do that much more off-campus exploration!

Any city school will be equipped with a local public transportation system, which is a much better, wallet-friendly alternative to having your own car (which probably isn’t permitted by your school and would be very expensive anyway).

Alaina Leary, a second-year graduate student at Emerson College in Boston, says, “One thing I really recommend is to get to know the public transportation.” Getting acclimmated to the city via the subway or bus system is a really effective way to explore--getting lost on it one day might result in you finding your new favorite café!

It’s also really easy to get stuck in your campus bubble—even if you don’t have much of a campus to speak of! One of the great features of going to school in a city is that you only have to walk a couple of blocks before you’re off campus! “My best advice for anyone who is going to school in a big city is to get out into the city and experience life,” says Taylor Carson, a senior at Temple University in Philadelphia.

If you end up at a city school, it means you’re lucky enough to have a guaranteed four years of endless exploration (don’t forget about, you know, college, though). “It can definitely be intimidating but it is so worth it,” Taylor adds.

2. Everything is more expensive

The rumours are true—the cost of an average cup of coffee in a city could buy you several cups of coffee anywhere else. Don’t let the expensive nature of city living get you down, though. There are plenty of ways around it! Look for student discounts, be willing to travel a little further for cheaper options and get really into consignment shopping!

Particularly at stores and restaurants around campus, you’ll be able to find plenty of deals for students. “I recommend students check out what perks and discounts their student ID gets them,” Alaina says. Most museums will be cheaper or free, movie tickets will be a bargain and there are tons of rewards programs for students at places like coffee shops and fast food restaurants.

Getting to know the neighborhoods in your city will really make it feel like home. “Take advantage of as many restaurants/food joints as possible,” says Megan Sawey, a senior at Temple University. “Sampling some of Philly’s most iconic locations has helped me to feel as though I’m not just a student who’s invading the city temporarily.”

Finding events on and around campus is really easy to do. Click through your suggested events on Facebook, sign up for clubs on campus (and be bombarded with events emails) or even try out random listservs in your city. Organizations like Nonsense NYC and DCist are great resources for finding random events in your city.

You can even get an idea of these features before you commit to a specific city or school. "When you visit, instead of just seeing all the famous museums and sites, try to find some smaller places," says Marisa Brown, a senior at Barnard College in New York City. "They can help give you an idea of what it's like to be a local."

3. It’s loud, busy and dirty—and you’ll end up loving it!

City living means adjusting to constant noise, weird smells and dirtiness. No fear, though, there are plenty of budget-friendly, time-saving life hacks that will hugely help you out with the hustle and bustle of urban life.

Make your dorm or apartment your sanctuary, a place you can always come back to escape the crowded, not-so-fun parts about the city. “Once you learn to find silence in the city, you’re essentially set for success,” says Catherine Abes, a first-year journalism student at Ryerson University in Toronto. “If my limited experience has taught me anything, it’s that city living is very, very loud. My tip for anyone coming from a quieter city like me: bring earbuds.”

Eventually, you’ll find that all of the seemingly unappealing characteristics of urban life are actually what give it its charm. Strangers yelling on the streets at all hours of the night will be like your own reality TV show, and the stories you hear from cab drivers and food cart workers will be some of your favorite memories.

4. All the opportunities can feel very overwhelming

The plethora of things going on in big cities can sometimes give you so many options that you feel completely paralyzed. This is totally understandable—when you have all of these options to choose from, it’s hard to decide what you’ll enjoy the most and find the most rewarding! Once you get over the amount of possibilities, you’ll realize that there are tons of things you want to do, and not enough hours in the day.

City life is a constant hustle. Though it may seem like it’s impossible to get anywhere in the urban job market, you just need the right amount of motivation and willingness to take initiative. “The opportunities are endless here and being surrounded by successful people is great motivation,” says Autumn Dube, a senior at Emmanuel College in Boston.

“It’s  much easier to find opportunities near you, especially with big companies, when you’re in a big city versus a more rural area,” says Mara Hyman, a recent graduate from the University of Southern California. You have the advantage of all of these openings, so get in there and get to experiencing life!

Ultimately, the endless career options offered by a city are something you can't get anywhere else. They make city schools that much more exciting and alluring! "It's a good idea to choose a city you could see youreslf living and working in after school," says Marisa.

5. You might feel really isolated, but you’re not alone!

To quote the renowned Mila Kunis in the cinematic masterpiece that is Friends with Benefits, “Every place can be lonely sometimes.” College is a weird, transitional period during your life, and it’s really easy to get stuck in a routine that will become really suffocating and lonely.

Try to get ahead of these moments and take advantage of all that your city has to offer. “Urban universities are so unique to the college experience, and looking back on my college career I wouldn’t change a thing!” Taylor says.

Your experience at college in a big city isn’t going to be like the one you see in a romantic comedy. Your living situation is going to be less than ideal, you will constantly be on the brink of a financial crisis and sometimes you’re going to feel really lonely.

These might all seem like reasons not to go to an urban school, but don’t forget that college is what you make of it! Going to school in a big city means you’ll meet tons of interesting people with amazing life stories, you’ll eat the best food and every now and then, the sunset peeking between the skyscrapers will take your breath away

The 7 Best Scary Movies to Watch With Your S.O.

Who said Halloween wasn’t a romantic holiday? Not only can you dress up in cute matching costumes with your SO, but you have someone who will cover your eyes and who you can grab on to during the gory scenes of scary movies. Horror films are one of the best ways to get your adrenaline pumping for a fun date during Halloween season, whether it’s with your long-term squeeze or a new cutie you’ve been seeing.

While going for a walk to see the leaves changing is a nice way of hanging out, every couple needs a break from the typical fall dates—and what better way to break the lull than with popcorn and a blood-curdling thriller?

So kick off the spooky festivities by cuddling up with your man and watching one of these terrifying movies! Experts even say that engaging in thrilling activities with another person can make your bond stronger. We’ve ordered our movie selections from light-hearted frights to bone-chilling tales that will stick with you long after you’ve turned off the TV—it’s up to you how close you want to get with your guy this Halloween!

1. Warm Bodies

Can’t decide between a horror flick and a rom-com? Warm Bodies takes the best of both worlds by blending a grotesque cast with an irresistibly sweet plotline. In this paranormal Romeo and Juliet adaptation, a zombie boy falls for living girl in the midst of an apocalypse. As their love grows stronger, the boy begins showing more humanlike characteristics (we’ll spare you the beating heart joke), which shed a new light on the war between the living and the dead. So if you and your guy have opposite tastes on the movie spectrum, we’re sure you’ll both find something to love in this hilarious “horror” film. Plus, you can always have a playful argument about who will win the ultimate battle between zombies and humans!

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street

Another classic that takes place in a seemingly peaceful suburban setting, this movie will turn your pleasant dreams into sheer terror. When a murderer with a bladed glove begins haunting people in their sleep, a young girl must prove that a string of deaths are all related to one nighttime killer (before he slashes all of her friends!)

While the plotline will make you sleep with one eye open, keep in mind that this movie was made in the ‘80s. Lindsay Goldstein, a senior at the University of Illinois, says, “The special effects are SO outdated, and it's always great to make fun of how obvious the makeup and fake blood are and laugh together while snuggling up!”

3. Scream

Any installation of this classic thriller is sure to give you a case of goose bumps. The movie features a cast of horror movie mavens that uses their know-how to escape the attacks of a killer by the name of Ghostface (we wonder how long it took them to come up with that…). While the cast makes fun of the conventions in scary movies, they still find themselves falling for the very same tricks.

“I think it [has] just the right amount of scary… that you can talk through the movie and still know what’s going on,” says Asiana Smith, a senior at Le Moyne College. What would you and your guy do if Ghostface was pursuing you? Chat it up and make a game plan as you watch the main characters make not-so-smart decisions.

4. When a Stranger Calls

This 2006 remake of the 1979 film will have you think twice about taking that seemingly harmless part-time babysitting job. When a teenager babysits two children in a large home, she receives strange phone calls from an unidentified number. The police trace the call and tell the babysitter that the calls are coming from inside the house (we think that’s a creepy enough reason for you and your guy to silence your own phones—and that means more attention on each other!). The babysitter soon realizes that her real job description is to keep the kids—and herself—alive and far away from the mysterious caller.

Despite its disturbing premise, this movie can also be an unlikely conversation starter if you’re watching it with a guy you’re getting to know. “I always use this movie to my advantage because I can cuddle up with the guy and reference how much I babysit and love kids,” says Morgan Gibbons, a recent grad of Boston College and the publicity director for HC BC. “Guys usually like to hear that I care about kids… especially if they have younger siblings.”

5. The Cabin in the Woods

If you think all horror films end the same way, you need to watch this movie. The story begins with five adventurous friends who go on holiday in a remote cabin (what could possibly go wrong?). Little do they know that workers in an underground facility are monitoring their every move. By using drugs, the workers begin manipulating the group’s rational thoughts (like sticking together no matter what) to control their fates.

The action pokes fun at the ridiculous scenarios in most horror films and uses a unique approach to keep you guessing at every suspenseful pause. On top of the exciting plot, there are a few sultry scenes (like a tipsy game of truth or dare) that will set the mood for any scary movie date night—just make sure your date doesn’t get jealous when you’re staring at Chris Hemsworth more than him.

6. You’re Next

A family reunion goes awry in this movie when murderers wearing farm animal masks invade the family’s luxurious vacation home. However, the assailants are in for a surprise when one of the sons’ girlfriends has hidden survival skills that could save them all. The retreat turns into a bloody game of cat and mouse as relationships are tested and trust becomes one of the most deadly weapons. This movie is sure to give you an eerie feeling as you’re holding on to your guy because the most dangerous villains are often closer than you think…(although we’re sure he’s great!)

7. The Conjuring

Set in the 1970s, this movie is about a family who moves into a farmhouse that was previously owned by an accused witch. If that wasn’t bad enough, it turns out the witch killed her own children and then committed suicide. The family starts hearing voices and seeks out the help of a husband and wife who specialize in paranormal investigations. The creepiness escalates, and the couple must perform an exorcism before the family is possessed, and history repeats itself. This movie is not for the timid, so make sure you and your guy are ready for the eeriest scenes ever. If you need some motivation to make it through to the end, just know that Patrick Wilson gets a lot of screen time.

Take advantage of the spooky season and indulge your inner child; you can outgrow trick-or-treating, but scary movies are always age-appropriate. Your S.O. will appreciate the bold suggestion and be more than happy to protect you from those freaky villains (whether you’re really scared or not!).

7 Ways Mindy Lahiri Should Embrace The Single Life

$

The season five premiere of The Mindy Project ended with Mindy Lahiri—doctor, food lover and fashionista—choosing to turn down both Jody and Danny in favor of staying single. After a whole season of guy troubles, whether it was Danny abandoning her to go to California or the love triangle with Jody and Dr. C, Mindy is finally on her own.

The last four seasons have shown Mindy on plenty of good (and bad) dates, so it will be amazing to see how she tackles the ~single life~. We're sure to see Mindy go on some wacky adventures while she's single. Here are some suggestions for how Mindy should embrace her newfound singledom.

1. She can spend more time with Little Leo.

Whether they're binge-watching their favorite show or going on auditions, Mindy and Leo always have a great time together. Now that she doesn't have a love life to worry about, she can focus on the cutest man in her life: Leo!

2. Actually go on that trip to Miami with her girls!

Nothing's better after boy trouble than going out on the town with your girlfriends. Since Mindy missed her trip to Miami when she was stuck in that elevator with Danny, she needs to plan a new night out (sans guys) ASAP.

3. No more sharing her bear claws…or frozen pizzas…or McDonald's

Mindy is just like us: food is her one true love. No boyfriend equals no sharing her food, and THAT is a happy ending we can get behind.

4. She can FINALLY get over Danny for good.

Since season one, Mindy has been hung up on the charismatic, rough-around-the-edges doctor. However, Danny has repeatedly shown that he's NOT the guy for Mindy, whether he's forcing her to stay at home with their baby, criticizing her body or cheating on his new fiancée with Mindy. By completely letting go of Danny, Mindy can finally be the badass single lady we know she can be.

5. She can work on her thriving business—with or without Jody.

Lately Mindy's been juggling three badass jobs: mom, doctor and owner of her own business. Although Jody has been helping her with Later Baby, we totally know she could handle it with or without him. And honestly, after that tantrum he threw after Mindy turned him down, we say WITHOUT him.

6. She can figure out exactly what she wants.

From Brendan to Tom to Cliff to Casey to Danny to Jody, Mindy has had her fair share of relationship duds. Spending some time alone will allow her to think back on her past relationships and figure out what she wants in the next guy. Since Danny and Jody obviously weren't perfect, who will be? Bring on a new slew of suitors!

7. She can find herself.

Mindy Lahiri, AKA Beyonce Pad Thai, is a strong, smart and amazing woman. In the midst of all her guy problems, she sort of forgot that. But now she can take the time to rediscover herself.

College Students Are Now Forming Mobs to Hunt Made-Up Clowns

$

There are not a bunch of criminal clowns running around your campus. Really. Colleges across the country, most notably Penn State, have started experiencing the clown epidemic that started in South Carolina and has spread to at least 20 states—But police are reassuring everyone that these clowns are not a problem, and please, stop reporting them and trying to hunt them down, because they're not really there.

At Penn State, students actually formed a mob when clowns were allegedly sighted, according to the school's paper, the Daily Collegian. But while news of the clown spread rapidly through Yik Yak and other social media, and somewhere between 500 and 1,000 students joined the fray, nobody could prove that the clown had really been there.

“Several people are saying they have seen clowns, but nobody has actually confirmed they have seen a clown,” the official told CBS News.

Inside Higher Ed reported clown sightings at 13 colleges, including University of Connecticut, University of Massachusetts, Syracuse and Belmont University. Belmont students hunted for a clown on campus with golf clubs. Merrimack College even went on lockdown for an hour due to reports of an armed clown.

Guess what? There was not a dangerous clown found at a single one of these schools.

The NYPD's chief of intellegence and counterterrorism has even gotten in on this, confirming a lack of evidence supporting the clown phenomenon at a recent crime briefing, Politico reports.

“So far, we’ve found none credible,” John Miller, the chief, said. “The NYPD is not devoting additional manpower or resources to the areas of clown threats and sightings. We’ve had a couple of incidents in Long Island. Needless to say, we’re tracking it, but we don’t see a threat here. And I guess our main message is, don’t believe the hype and don’t be afraid of the clowns.”

“The increase in creepy clown sightings is dangerous. It causes panic & alarm. Please don’t take part in this,” NYPD’s 109th Precinct in Flushing tweeted on Sunday.

It's true that you can't blame people for being freaked out. ‘IT’, “Killer Clown” John Wayne Gracy, Ronald McDonald...clowns are creepy AF. But listen to what the police are saying—that the danger comes from people working themselves into a frenzy because of rumors and false reports. There is literally no danger from actual clowns. It's one thing to be scared, but it's another to drum up needless hysteria and refuse to think critically. And if you're one of the people that started a clown hoax on purpose—well, then you just suck.

Regardless of whether or not the clown sightings are real, it’s a good reminder to be aware of your surroundings and travel in groups whenever possible.

Be safe out there, and don't spread clown rumors!

Mike Pence May Have Won The VP Debate, But You Need To See His Record On Gender Issues

$

After the first and only vice presidential debate aired on television Tuesday night, Mike Pence seemed to be the clear winner to viewers around the country. According to a CNN poll, Donald Trump’s running mate managed to convince 48 percent of voters that he did the better job, edging out the 42 percent that supported Tim Kaine’s performance.

CBS News’ Elaine Quijano moderated the debate fairly. Unfortunately, she failed to spend much time discussing one very important issue—women’s issues.

As far as reproductive rights and LGBT rights go, Mike Pence is far from the winner.

According to Politico, Pence has run a “one-man crusade to deny” all federal funding from going to Planned Parenthood. This doesn’t just include abortion—Pence’s Planned Parenthood stance decidedly goes against spending on all of the organization’s services, including HIV testing, STD/STI testing, breast screenings and counseling.

“If Planned Parenthood wants to be involved in providing counseling services and HIV testing, they ought not be in the business of providing abortions,” Pence told Politico. “As long as they aspire to do that, I’ll be after them.”

It’s important to note that as the governor of Indiana, Pence forced many of the Planned Parenthood clinics in the state to close. This could have been what led to the March 2015 “historic” H.I.V. epidemic in Scott County, Indiana. “He’s the only one I know of who has been so completely obsessed with Planned Parenthood,” said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, to Politico.

Unfortunately, his issues with a women’s rights to choice goes far beyond defunding planned parenthood.

The Indiana Republican also pushed for a bill to restrict women for having abortions for any purpose relating to race, gender, ancestry or disability status of a fetus. This, however, would have required women seeking an abortion to disclose their reasoning and have it approved, imposing an incredible breach of privacy. The Supreme Court shot down the law in July, but not before women had given Pence a look at exactly what he was proposing through the infamous "Periods for Pence" campaign. Women called Pence's office to talk about their periods, figuring the governor would want to hear about it since he's so up in women's business!

"I long for the day that Roe v. Wade is sent to the ash heap of history,” Pence once said while he served as a U.S. Congressman of Indiana.

According to the Huffington Post, Pence has also resisted the end of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” military policy, opposed federal funding for H.I.V. and AIDS treatment and supported businesses who wanted to refuse serving LGBT people for religious reasons.

“Societal collapse was always brought about following an advent of the deterioration of marriage and family,” Pence said in 2006, pressing that keeping same-sex couples from marrying was not discrimination but a religious obligation, according to TIME.

Oh, and women in the military? Pence apparently said no way, because of Disney. And sex. Both of which are very, very bad things to the Indiana governor. "It is instructive that even in the Disney film, young Ms. Mulan falls in love with her superior officer! Me thinks the politically correct Disney types completely missed the irony of this part of the story," he wrote in a column, according to Refinery29. "You see, now stay with me on this, many young men find many young women to be attractive sexually. Many young women find many young men to be attractive sexually. Put them together, in close quarters, for long periods of time, and things will get interesting. Just like they eventually did for young Mulan. Moral of story: women in military, bad idea."

Yes, Pence may have seemed more “stately,” and reserved. But maybe if the debate focused more on issues Collegiettes care about, we would have seen a different side of him.

Kim Kardashian's Former Bodyguard Thinks Her Robbery Was an Inside Job

Just when you thought the Kim Kardashian robbery couldn’t get any crazier... Former bodyguard, Steve Stanulis, says he believes it was an inside job.

Interviewed this morning on Good Morning Britain, Stanulis condemned Kardashian for flaunting her wealth and her security team for leaving her unguarded and vulnerable. (Way to victim-blame.) Not only that, Stanulis also said that based on what has been reported, he thinks the robbery was done with the help of someone within the Kardashian’s inner circle.

“As the facts keep coming out and the more stuff unwinds, 100 per cent it's an inside job,” he claims.

Stanulis is no stranger to high-profile clients; he's been on the payroll of stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire. As recently as this May, Stanulis was fired by Kanye West supposedly for allegedly flirting with his wife.

According to the former bodyguard, West was quite a handful as a client. Stanulis slammed Yeezy for being incredibly high-maintenance in aPage Six interview.

“I was amazed by the amount of bizarre behavior I saw in just two weeks,” said Stanulis. “It is his world and everyone just exists within it. I don’t know how Kim [Kardashian] stays married to him.”

In order to avoid future robberies, Stanulis advises that Kim stop posting her high-end luxury goodies on social media and that her whole entourage takes their security more seriously.

“'If you have a multi-million dollar ring and you're sporting it on Snapchat, how much does it cost to get an off-duty or retired police officer, who is trained and you could have prevented this from happening,” he said. “For $300 a day they could have a fully trained former police officer with them. That is peanuts to people with their kind of wealth.”

He's not the only one who thinks the robbery is Kim's fault—even Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld felt that Kim shouldn't have been "surprised" about the attack.

"You cannot display your wealth and then be surprised that some people want to share it with you," he said to reporters after the Chanel show in Paris. "If you're that famous and you put all your jewelry on the net, you go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room. I think it's a very bad thing for Paris, but I don't understand why she was in a hotel with no security."

Of course, while taking security measures and other precautions against such an event is important, it seems that this message of blame is one Kim has taken to heart. A source told People, "Kim’s in shock and blaming herself. She’s tearing herself up that she Snapchatted the ring so much and wore it all the time. This incident is making her question everything. How she dresses, what she does."

Stanulis is hesitant to directly blame current Kardashian bodyguard, Pascal Duvier, for the lapse in security. At the time of the robbery, Duvier was with Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner instead of Kim.

“He was probably told that's what he had to do, I don't think that was his choice. Knowing them, you don't tell Kim or Kanye what you think you should do,” he said.

While he may not be blaming their current security personnel, Stanulis didn't hold back when blaming Kim for flaunting her jewelry and wealth in general. With her 48 million Twitter followers, 84 million Instagram  ollowers and God-knows-how-many Snapchat friends, it’s safe to say that millions of people are aware of what she owns and what city she is in.

It was only a matter of time until someone took advantage of Kim’s accessibility and wealth, the former NYPD cop said, explaining, “I saw this happening. It just had to with the way Kim flaunts her riches and her diamonds.”

So while her fans may love seeing her jewelry, furs and countless other spoils, her former security guard urges both Kim and Kanye to take their security more seriously.

“Those guys had guns man. They could have killed her or hurt her bad. Thank God she didn’t get injured or anything. She can replace the jewels, but this should never happened. There should have been an armed guard with her at all times and outside her door.”

Be careful out there, Kimye!
