7 Unexpected People You Should Befriend at Work

Savvy employees know that getting in good with the right people is an excellent way to boost their careers. Whether you want to leave a lasting impression at your summer internship or plan on starting your first full time job this summer, here is who you definitely need to maintain a relationship with, and why.

1. Information Technology

Think about it—what percentage of your work is done on the computer or your company cell phone? If the answer is high, befriending the IT department is the single best thing you can do! After all, when your printer stops working, your phone breaks or your computer has a virus, you’ll need their help ASAP.

As a brand of engineering, Information Technology specializes specifically in using computer technology and telecommunications technology to transmit, translate and store various types of information. IT personnel can get you out of a bind when your computer won't turn on right before a big report is due or even when you can't figure out how to filter work emails.

Of course, before going to IT, try to figure out the issue on your own to make sure that you're not wasting anybody's time. And if you do need to call the department, stay calm and amiable and realize you may have to wait. And if you sense some annoyance in their response to your request, try to understand their side of the story! Think about how you feel when your mom or dad asks you (for the fifth time) how to upload pictures to the computer or how to “do the email.” IT personnel get a lot of the same questions day in and day out from people who are busy and impatient—you'd be annoyed too! To avoid coming across as needy and unappreciative, be extra courteous, laugh at your lack of computer knowledge and try to learn from your mistake so you don’t have to ask the same questions again later on.

If your workplace doesn't have an IT department, it's just as helpful to befriend a colleague who is particularly adroit with technology. No matter what, someone will be willing to help you with all of your computer and communication technology woes, we promise!

2. Administrative Assistant

Imagine a person who knows everyone in the office, inside and out. They work directly with the CEO and all of her top management. This person knows high-level info about the professional goals of all the company's top executives and is attuned to important workplace networking. They know about all of the moving pieces of the organization, and every time you get stuck on a big project, they can introduce you to someone who can help. Guess what? This person actually exists in nearly every office and you’d be crazy not to start building a relationship with them! These employees used to be called secretaries, but their roles have since been expanded and they now typically hold the title of executive assistant or administrative assistant. Still not convinced you need them? Admins in your office can be a wealth of information when it comes to company culture, and they see interviewees like you day in and day out, meaning they know exactly what the boss likes and dislikes.

Kate Brooks, Executive Director for Personal and Career Development at Wake Forest University, says that "it is likely that bosses will ask the administrative assistant if an interviewee was nice to him/her, because if not they don't want to employ someone who does not contribute to a positive workplace atmosphere."

Even after you get the job, you should take the time to get to know the administrative assistants. They don't have the luxury of getting up from their desk as often as you do, so a good way to connect is to always ask the administrative assistant if he/she needs anything when you run out for lunch as a show of thanks for their hard work. They probably deal with more difficult people than you could imagine, so nice gestures go a long way. Plus, when you need something important mailed overnight, for example, and the office is about to close, they'll be more inclined to stay late and help you out if you treat them well!

3. Human Resources

It never hurts to be nice, especially when it comes to the person (or people) who know the ins-and-outs of a company. Human Resources is a major part of everyone's work life. Whether you are looking for a job, already employed, moving up the ranks or moving on, you will encounter and need the assistance of the HR department. For many job seekers, the HR professional or recruitment officer is the gateway to getting an in into a company. In a way, HR holds the power of getting you through the door as they are the ones who filter resumes, set interviews and process hiring. They are also the ones who will orient you and help you get settled in as soon as you get hired. Once employed, the HR department also oversees many other functions, such as monitoring your attendance to process your pay slip. They also do the paperwork and documentation needed by the company and organize employee events and teambuilding activities.

HR also plans, seeks approval for and organizes training development programs. They propose and manage benefits, monitor performances so that deserving employees get promoted and make sure that policies are followed so that the workplace can run smoothly. Finally, HR has the task of disciplining and apprehending violators of company policies, which means that befriending members of the HR department can help you become more knowledgeable about company policies and workplace expectations.

So, since HR people can greatly assist in getting you hired, getting you acquainted with the company, developing your skills, managing your compensation and benefits and overseeing your career growth, you should be showing them a whole lot of appreciation and love! Chatting in the elevator, asking how they're doing as you pass them in the hall, or even a simple thank you every once and a while can really go a long way. Befriend your HR rep; it's not just wise—it's the right thing to do!

4. Your Boss

This one’s kind of a no-brainer! Your first internship or job most likely isn’t your dream job, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to foster the best possible relationship with your boss and aim to gain a great mentor in the process! Brooks suggests that the first step in befriending your boss is becoming familiar with company policies regarding personal relationships with superiors, and if such a policy doesn't exist, to ask your aforementioned HR friends for advice!

For quick advice on conversation topics, Brooks says that it's best to keep discussion that's not work-related centered on your boss' hobbies, interests and family. "Keep it professional though," cautions Brooks. "This isn't an intimate, best-friends relationship."

While being on good terms with your boss is essential, there are pitfalls you need to avoid when trying to befriend your boss. First, it's important to keep your friendship from becoming an emotional crutch or negative space. Often times, it's easy to complain or vent to someone you're befriending, but you want to tread lightly here because it's important that your boss regards you as a strong employee with a positive attitude. Second, avoid gossiping to your boss or encouraging your boss to pass the latest gossip along to you. Such behavior will almost always end badly, whether your boss accidentally repeats the gossip you have shared or begins to develop the impression that you like being involved in petty gossip. Third, understand where the line should not be crossed as a professional. For example, it would be inappropriate to tell your coworkers, including your boss, that you won't be on your A-game today thanks to a massive hangover. And lastly, always be very aware of the impression you're creating by becoming friends with your boss. A relationship that is exclusive and involves sharing inside jokes is unprofessional behavior and will create a negative team dynamic with the rest of your coworkers. The key to having a successful and appropriate friendship with your boss is to understand how far to take that friendship, which means always remembering that your role as an employee always comes first.

5. The Newbie

While it’s nice to be on the receiving end of coworker-friendship benefits, it’s just as nice to go out of your way to help someone less experienced. Spot a newbie who isn’t sure which printer to use? See someone wandering the halls, aimlessly looking for office #703? By taking a less-experienced coworker under your wing, you’ll boost your leadership abilities and have the chance to become a kick-ass mentor. You’ll also ensure that all members of your work community are productively contributing to the workplace, which helps everyone! Besides, he or she might just turn out to be one of the above five must-have colleagues! You never know who your next boss will be, so it always pays to network proactively.

6. Your Competitors

While it may seem inadvisable to get too chummy with your competitors, they can be a boon to business, says Brooks. She suggests at the very least to touch base with competitors to stay on top of industry trends. That way, you can gauge how your performance compares to others. Brooks also says knowing your competitors can help you better articulate your own business propositions. Though she advocates forming as many industry connections as possible, Brooks offers this advice: "Though competitors can yield valuable information, take care not to let that information have too much influence on your own plans."

Brooke Metz, a Media Relations Intern at the Coca-Cola Company, agrees that keeping in touch with competitors and connecting with them via social media is an important part of the job. "I'm often encouraged to become aware of who our competitors are. It's not just about outshining them but creating and maintaining positive relationships," she says. Brooks advises employees to be aware of company policies regarding interacting with competitors and to always keep contact with them professional and light. "Do not seek friendships with the competition without an okay," Brooks warns, "but if your boss gives you the go-ahead and monitors your interactions then you have a fantastic opportunity to cultivate an important relationship and trusting rapport." Overall, being aware of and friendly with the competition can open new doors and provide invaluable insight into the industry you're interested in.

7. Industry Contacts Outside of the Company

No matter what industry you're in, you'll likely be in touch with industry experts outside of your company. For example, if you work in media or publishing, it's likely you'll be in touch with publicists throughout the day. Metz says that at the beginning of her internship with Coca-Cola she had to pitch ideas to publicists, a daunting task for an intern. As her internship progressed, Metz noted that "when you delve into their story [publicists], ask the details about their angle, and develop a relationship, you can not have a go-to publicist but better content like newsletters or press releases because that publicist is more knowledgeable and attuned to the culture of Coca-Cola." Metz reiterates the importance of good publicity and marketing, saying that befriending a publicist (she suggests asking them about their personal interests to break the ice) makes the process a lot easier and more straightforward. Also, a publicist that you've created a good relationship with, she says, is beneficial for when you need to get news out at the last minute. "They [publicists] have all the connections and have made it their career to get information out quickly, concisely, and to the right people," she adds.

While we, as motivated collegiettes, should always strive to further our careers, we should also focus on cultivating relationships to create a better, inclusive work environment. When looking to boost your success, always remember the people who helped get you there!

14 Things Only People Who Feel Too Much Understand

$

Empathy is a powerful and arguably rare trait to posess, but problems arise when you have too much of it. As the saying goes, you really can have too much of a good thing. People who feel too much are no strangers to excessive anger, sadness, happiness, etc. They experience every emotion on the spectrum way more deeply than they'd like. Keeping our composure is highly unrealistic and holding back the tidal waves of feelings is just plain impossible. Arguably, it's hard to define what's normal and more than necessary when it comes to an individual's feelings. However, if you're a girl who feels too much, there's a good chance you'll be able to relate to this.

1. You feel the feelings all at once

It's like standing at the edge of the ocean when a giant wave moves in too fast for you to escape it. Not such a fun experience.

2. You would love to be able to turn down your emotional dial on occasion

But you know that you don't control your emotions - they control you.

3. Animal cruelty commercials get the waterworks going every time

Watch the entire 30-second clip? Not going to happen.

4. That one movie/song/TV show always makes you cry

As much as you'd like to deny this, you can't.

5. You relate to that one girl that "doesn't even go here" in Mean Girls more than any other fictional character

Enough said.

6. Because you feel so much, you've become highly perceptive to other people's feelings

This is definitely more of a strength than a weakness. You're good at learning and understanding the minds of other humans, which allows you to theorize how and why people think and feel the way they do.

7. You're an expert at comforting others

You're able to relate and empathize with others very well.

8. As a result, you're always the first person your friends go to for comfort

They know how in touch you are with your emotions. You always know the best and wisest thing to say.

9. Very few people understand the true, inner workings of your mind

So when you come across the ones that do, they're your BFFs for life.

10. You constantly want to help people because you understand their emotional pain

It's not your job to do so, but you can't help the urges you get. This can be considered either as an attribute or your greatest flaw depending on how you look at it. You forgive easily because you can quickly see the best in people.

11. You're highly sensitive to any and all criticism

Masking your emotions is not a feasible option. Although you try really hard to think and react reasonably and to remain remain level-headed, you can't help feeling personally attacked.

12. You find yourself drawn to other deep and introspective individuals

Whether in a friendly or romantic way, you find yourself attracted to people with similar mindsets. You live for those deep talks and crave any and all wisdom that can be passed on to you.

13. Rational thinking is not a term in your vocabulary

Irrationality is your middle name.

14. On the bright side, you'll never be accused of being heartless

Just a perk of your emotional nature. Follow your heart and you can't go wrong. At least, that's what you're hoping for.

You might lack your dream job, good grades or significant other, but you know what you do have? A lot of feelings - way more than the average person. Feeling a lot and all at once is not always the greatest thing. You end up having faith in the wrong people and making excuses for those that have hurt you before. You also have a hard time thinking and reacting rationally with your brain. But, at least you'll never be accused of not having a heart. Emotionally, you're an open book and your ability to empathize with the people around you can be an important social asset. Because you have so many feelings, you've got a lot of love to give.

15 Things Collegiettes Tell Themselves to Feel Better

Sometimes college is hard. Between exams, roommate squabbles and finding enough caffeine to function on three hours of sleep, we’re familiar with riding the struggle bus pretty much daily. With our crazy lives, we all need some pick-me-ups, right? Good thing we’re pros at making ourselves feel better.

1. “Pizza covers almost all the food groups, so it’s basically healthy.”

2. “I’ll never be able to wear sweatpants to a real job, so might as well do it now!”

3. “I went to the gym earlier this month so I can skip today and watch Netflix instead.”

4. “1 hour of studying = 2 Starbucks visits.”

5. “As a growing young adult, sleeping is more important than my 8 a.m. class.”

6. “The meatloaf in the dining hall is concerning… better go to Chipotle, just to be safe.”

7. “When else can I get $3 cocktails on a Tuesday night without being judged? #yolo.”

8. “Eating a salad for lunch balances out my late-night French fries.”

9. “It is way too nice out to be stuck in class. Staying inside on this beautiful day would be a sin.”

10. “I actually took notes today, so do I really need to read the textbook?”

11. “Taking advantage of sales at the mall really just makes me economically savvy.”

12. “After graduation, I’ll probably never see my friends again. Better hang out with them 24/7 while I can!”

13. “Why bother doing laundry now when I’m going home in three weeks? Thanks, Mom!”

14. “I went to two of my classes today, so I deserve a three-hour nap.”

15. “Responsible decision-making is for the real world. Not college.”

Thanks to Donuts, Ariana Grande Wasn't Allowed to Perform at The White House

The world may have forgotten about #DonutGate, but the White House is still holding it against Ariana Grande. In a series of leaked emails, it was made very, very clear that the singer was not welcome at the White House to perform at last year's Democratic National Convention. Sure, we cringed when we saw that video of Ariana licking—then putting back—donuts, the magnitude of that mistake wasn't made clear until now.

The singer is probably kicking herself for her mistake. Last September, DNC Finance Chair Zachary Allen sent an email asking for Ariana to be vetted for a gala performance for the president, and boy were his staffers thorough.

"Video caught her licking other peoples’ donuts while saying she hates America," an email response read. Apparently, a Republican congressman also took issue with her because "liberals were not upset with her like they are with Trump who criticized Mexicans," even after she "cursed out a person on Twitter after that person used an offensive word towards her brother."

There's more where that came from—Gawker published the full email, which includes her date of birth, employment information, and a clean-as-a-whistle record... aside from that donut incident, of course. The lesson to be learned here? Don't take food that isn't yours. Sadly, Ariana just had to learn that the hard way.

How She Got There: Arielle Patrick, Group Manager at Weber Shandwick

What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?

I act as a financial communications and investor relations counselor to companies in various sectors, consulting on transactions like mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, and bankruptcy. In many cases these special situations are tied to litigation. I also help financial services companies like hedge funds and other asset managers design strategies to raise their profiles through proactive media campaigns.

No one work day is the same…but the one consistent thing I do no matter how early I have to get into the office…is read the latest and greatest in The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times and Barron’s before doing anything or offering advice to any clients.

What’s it like being known as the “Real-Life Olivia Pope”?

Marie Claire was so sweet to compare me to such an amazing fictional character in that article they wrote recently! That said, I must admit that I not only don’t watch Scandal—or any TV for that matter—but the “Real-Life Olivia Pope” is actually not me! Olivia’s character is based on the legendary Judy Smith—a true inspiration for professionals in crisis management.

How do you balance your career and volunteer and charity work?

To use an old idiom: “I’ll sleep when I’m dead.” I am the kind of person that needs to stay busy to feel fulfilled, so I execute a lot of my pro bono work after hours or on the weekends. I’ve also learned that using your core skill set in other areas can actually teach you new things that make you better at your day job.

For example, recently I chaired a young patrons gala benefit for the preservation of Yellowstone National Park. On this project, I learned much more about how strategic brand partnerships are born. I was able to secure Anheuser-Busch as one of our party sponsors, by thinking outside the box and “pitching” them on how much they had in common with Yellowstone. I helped them see the synergy between two unlikely organizations: America’s first national park and a 600-year-old brewery—each embodying the spirit of “Americana.” That sealed the deal for them. As a result, they donated Stella Artois to feed my 300 party guests.

That experience was a great lesson that will definitely help me as I seek to build strategic partnerships for my finance clients.

What is the best part of your job?

I must say, my team. I have a boss who trusts me to the core and encourages me to improve every day. Many times, I learn from the junior team members that I manage. I also strongly believe in what our broader team is trying to achieve. Our mission statement brings me to the office with bells on every day.

What is one thing you wish you knew about your industry when you first started out that you know now?

I wish I knew how important it is to manage expectations with friends and family members about your schedule! I think by now they’ve gotten the point, but in many cases I’m late to things like dinner dates and birthday parties because my hours at the office can be very unpredictable. At the end of the day, the client comes first.

What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?

In my very first client meeting, I hadn’t read the paper that morning (it was at 7:00 a.m. but that’s never an excuse). I made the mistake of recommending a client engage with a journalist on a topic they had already written about that very day. No matter what industry you work in—always read the news!

What advice would you give to a 20-something with similar aspirations?

While you’re in college: intern, intern, intern. Internships are essentially free passes at trying something new without any repercussions for your career. If you don’t like something…on to the next one!

If you’re already out of school, send cold emails to people you admire asking for educational phone calls or meetings. Make them your mentors. You can thank me later.

Kim Kardashian & Calvin Harris Are Basically Best Friends Now

It's been a while since the whole Taylor Swift takedown thing happened... you know that thing where she lied, etc. But literally nobody is ready to stop talking about it—least of all Kim Kardashian. And guess who's joined in on the fun? Yep, ex Calvin Harris.

On Friday, BOTH Kardashian and Harris were backstage at Jennifer Lopez’s Vegas show. And it doesn’t just stop there. The next day both celebs posted Snapchat videos of them jamming out to Kanye lyrics. Harris’s video, which has since been deleted, showed him lip-syncing “wifey gonna kill me, she the female O.J.” from The Part and waving a frying pan around while he mouthed it, according to Sugarscape. Oh boy.

Kardashian’s snaps were a bit more straightforward as she sang along to the lyrics from “Famous” that reference Swift. Predictable, yet still hardcore.

AND THAT WAS STILL NOT THE END OF IT! That same night Harris and Kardashian were photographed together at Jennifer Lopez’s 47th birthday party, according to Cosmopolitan, and thanks to French Montana. Yes, you read that right, there is photographic evidence that the two of them are friends.

After it was reported last month that Miss Teen USA contestants will not be wearing swimsuits at the pageant next weekend in Vegas, we rejoiced. But what would contestants be required to wear instead? Thanks to E! Online, that mystery has been solved.

This year, instead of bathing suits, the contestants will be wearing custom athletic wear from Tapout, a global fitness brand, and designer Goldsheep, according to Cosmopolitan. Each state’s contestant will have a different outfit made specifically for them. So no more matching outfits!

And if imagining these pieces wasn’t enough, here are the actual outfits for Kansas and California (they're actually beyond cute):

Let’s hear it for fitness and health being more important than how good someone looks in a bikini! To see this incredible progress for yourself, tune in on July 30th on MissTeenUSA.com at 8 p.m. ET.

How to Keep Your Summer Health Motivation All Year Long

$

It’s easier to be motivated to stay fit when the sun is up, your bikini is in use, and you have more time to devote to working out. But as much as you hope to keep your healthy habits and fitness routines in place during the school year, let’s face it: classes and homework take up time, parties serve too much temptation and the stress can make you throw all your hard work out the window. Still, it’s not impossible to stay on track! We talked to collegiettes to see how they maintain their motivation throughout the school year.

Find Fitspiration

One of the best ways to keepmotivated is to expose yourself to inspiration that encourages you to live healthy year-round.

“Throughout freshman year, I struggled to remain motivated with maintaining my healthy diet — late-night snacking and tasting desserts at school were huge temptations that all my workouts couldn't cancel out,” says Kaitlin McCabe, a student at Hamilton College.

Kaitlin started to follow what are called “Fitblrs” on Tumblr: Tumblr pages with photos, quotes, and articles that are intended to motivate you to keep your fitness on track. “Every morning and whenever I felt weakness coming on, I would check out all the fitspo [fitspiration], from healthy recipes to workout tips to motivational images,” she says. “It was a great way to remind me of my fitness and nutritional goals. I now have my own Fitblr to help others with their health journeys.”

You could also find a healthy living or fitness blog to follow, such as Carrots ‘N’ Cake,Eating Bird Food or Fit Bottomed Girls, to get tips, recipes and encouragement.

Another way to get fitspiration all year long is to subscribe to a monthly fitness magazine or visit their website for articles on workout and meal ideas. You can even make a collage out of images that will motivate you and put it in your agenda or on your wall. Look at fitspiration boards on Pinterest, or make your own.

CAUTION: Fitspiration is not thinspiration! The focus should be on health and fitness, not thinness. It can get easy to get carried away, and you may come across some sites that promote unhealthy and unrealistic expectations, which can turn dangerous quickly. Stick to sites and blogs that focus on nutrition, exercise and health as opposed to diets and being skinny. Inspirational quotes, recipes, and workouts make for good fitspo, whereas pictures of models and unrealistic bodies do not.

Make Exercise a Priority

When classes get busy and the stress of college life gets overwhelming, it’s easy to push exercise routines down on your list of priorities. But just like brushing your teeth is essential to your health, so is exercise.

Hillary Coombs, a senior at Bryant University, makes a point to fit workouts into her schedule. “Every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 a.m., I go to yoga,” she says. “I have literally built it into my schedule as a necessity.”

Sign up for fun group exercises classes at your school’s gym that are more likely to get you excited about working up a sweat. Another way to keep yourself motivated to stay fit is to sign up for arace, like Hillary does regularly. “I sign up for 5Ks (and a half marathon this year) throughout the year to keep me training,” she says. Knowing that you’re working toward a big event is a great motivator to keep fit.

Track Your Food and Exercise

An easy way to stay motivated to eat healthy is to keep track of the food you’re eating. This will not only allow you to see how much and what you’re eating, but it will also keep you accountable. An app that Kaitlin uses to track her nutrition is MyFitnessPal. The app lets you track your nutrition as well as your exercise.

“[It] definitely keeps me from cheating throughout the day — by logging what I eat and how much I exercise, I stay honest to myself,” says Kaitlin. “ It's also great because it tells me the proper serving size for each food I consume, and I can track my progress!”

Mary Reischmann, a collegiette from Washington University in St. Louis, uses the USDA SuperTrack app, which works in a similar way. “It’s not super glam, but it’s really easy to use and it compliments you whenever you get closer to your goal weight,” she says. “Definitely worth checking out!”

There are many more apps out there that serve the same purpose. Check out our list offitness and health apps!

Get a Fitness Buddy

It’s hard to keep up motivation on your own, so call a friend who shares your desire to stay fit throughout the year. When you have a partner in crime, you can encourage each other and hold each other accountable.

“My housemates and I all dive in together in the beginning of the year,” Hillary says. “We plop a scale in the bathroom, leave notes for each other on mirrors and take turns cooking healthy meals together.”

Encouragement is great, but a little healthy competition can be a good motivator, too! Patricia Loo, a recent grad of the University of Western Ontario, made a bet with her friend to get a six-pack by the end of the year. “The bet was that if I did win, then he would buy me a nice dinner, but if I failed then I owed him a nice dinner,” she says. “I didn't end up winning the bet in the end, but it did motivate me to go to the gym more often.”

Even if you don’t win the competition, you still get the benefits of having stuck to a healthy plan! Just make sure not to let your competitive side take it too far. At the end of the day, everyone’s body is different, so you may get different results than your friends when doing a competition like Patricia’s. Keep the competition positive by encouraging your competitor, no matter what the results are. You don’t want the competition to lead you to do anything that jeopardizes your health or sanity.

Write Down the Benefits of Being Healthy

We know there are many benefits to eating right and exercising. But when you’re contemplating stress eating or are tempted to skip your workout in favor of a nap, those benefits are probably the last thing on your mind. So, it’s important to remind yourself of what you’ll gain from making healthy choices.

“If you make a list of all the great things staying healthy does for you, like your mental health, it makes [a healthier lifestyle] a lot easier to stick with it,” says Hillary. “For me, it helps me relieve stress, so it is kind of a must for me.”

You know how you don’t feel like going to the gym, but once you finish your workout you feel amazing? Try to record that feeling on paper or as a note in your phone so you can remember what it’s like. Whenever you feel you’re lacking motivation, remind yourself of how your post-workout endorphins made you feel. Use those fitblrs and Pinterest boards to remind yourself as well.

Having these benefits written in front of you will help remind you why you don’t want to throw away all the hard work you put into maintaining a healthy lifestyle during the summer. Some of the benefits you can write are how it helps reduce stress, makes you feel more confident and gives you more energy.

It can be hard to adjust from being a super-motivated collegiette in the summer to dealing with the stresses of school and maintaining a healthy lifestyle in the fall. But with these tips, it will be a little easier! Even if you end up slipping up every now and then, don’t beat yourself up about it — it’s not the end of the world!

What are ways that you keep yourself motivated throughout the year? Let us know in the comments.

"I've been using this palette every day for the past 5 to 6 months," Kylie revealed. This has us a) stalking all her Instagram posts for the past half year, and b) annoyed that she had the audacity to keep such a gem from us all this time. Ugh!

With color names like Quartz, Citrine (Kylie's favorite!), Topaz, Tiger's Eye and Goldstone, this palette is every bit as glamorous as you'd expect. And the best news? The palette will be available for purchase on kyliecosmetics.com TOMORROW at 3 p.m. PST—so be sure to set a reminder in your phone, right now.

There is Nothing That Screams Girl Power Like the ‘Wonder Woman’ Trailer

Big news: Yesterday at Comic-Con in San Francisco, Warner Brothers revealed the first trailer for Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot, and oh my goodness it is unreal.

Gadot first appeared in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice but frankly, she needed more screen time. Thankfully, our prayers have been answered and her movie, filled with strength, power and kick-ass everything, is coming soon.

The movie, directed by Patty Jenkins, will be the first female-centric superhero movie “to be released by a major company in recent years,” according to Nylon, and based on the trailer, it will definitely do that honor justice.

Check out the trailer for yourself and try not to spend every day wishing it was June 2, 2017.

As if seeing the first trailer for Wonder Woman wasn’t enough to get you fired up about female superheroes, we’ve got some big news for you.

According to Cosmopolitan, Marvel has recently announced that Oscar winner Brie Larson will play Captain Marvel, also known as Carol Danvers, in Captain Marvel, aka the first female-led superhero movie for Marvel, ever. Hell yeah.

Marvel announced the news at Comic-Con with Brie confirming it via her Instagram on the same day.

Call me Captain Marvel.

Basically, this is incredible news for superhero fans because tbh, there are not enough female heroes in the world, especially on the big screen. Women have been overlooked for too long in this sphere (I mean, Black Widow STILL hasn’t gotten her own movie) but finally, our prayers have been answered.

Captain Marvel will be hitting a theatre near you in March 2019. It'll be worth the wait.

6 Things Freshmen & Sophomores Can Learn from Upperclassmen

The underclassmen experience is an absolute whirlwind. We all have those first day flashbacks of struggling to find classrooms and wondering how the heck we’re supposed to carry all those textbooks around. Eventually you’ll rise to the ranks of an upperclassman and learn to master the art of campus life along the way –– but we want to help you out sooner rather than later. We’ve partnered with Office Depot to bring you six of the best tips that freshmen and sophomores can learn from upperclassmen.

1. Actually do your homework

During high school, homework was a dreaded task to come home to each day. In college it’s pretty much the same thing –– but this time it actually matters. High school homework is your teacher’s way of making sure that you’re following along with what happens in class, and it’s easy participation credit. Let’s be real though, even in your AP classes you could get by with only putting minimal effort into that required study guide or take-home quiz. We totally get that once senior year hits, you’re just over it!

The thing that any upperclassman will tell you about college is that your homework is a surprisingly useful learning tool. How are you going to master your college calculus class without practicing the homework problems each day? Homework will keep you from falling behind, tutor you for the final and is the most important thing to help you succeed as an underclassman. Don’t forget to keep it all organized with super colorful Divoga Whimsical Wonder Paper Portfolios at Office Depot and OfficeMax retail stores and online at officedepot.com. These portfolios will help you to separate your homework by class and to keep track of all your assignments.

2. Carry a backpack instead of a purse

While you lovely collegiettes will want to keep up your fashion game in college, any upperclassman will tell you to trade in your purse for a sturdy backpack. During high school you had minimal textbooks (or even had a locker to keep them in) so you could carry a cute purse just to hold your pens and a notebook. However, college classes use textbooks that require some serious heavy lifting, and a purse isn’t going to cut it this time. Don’t worry –– a backpack can add personality to your stylish outfit! Check out this High Sierra Pineapple Party Backpack at Office Depot and OfficeMax stores for a bag that’ll have your classmates asking where you got it.

3. Spend time getting to know your professors

We all had that one “cool” teacher in high school, and all the students wanted to be in his or her class. Surprisingly, most college professors are actually “cool” teachers, so you’ll definitely want to get to know them! Upperclassmen know professors are master networkers who can connect you to job leads and scholarships, so spending time with them during office hours can not only help your grade, but your future too. One day you might need a mentor to walk you through the world of “adulting,” while another professor might give you valuable career advice. Forming a personal relationship makes class more enjoyable, and it could even give your participation score the extra bump it needs.

4. Get educated on financial aid

You may want to push off the responsibilities of financial aid to your parents, but upperclassmen highly recommend getting educated on it yourself. First, you’ll have to actually apply for aid which can be done through FAFSA or a private loan company. Once you receive your aid award you’ll want to figure out a payment schedule and the type of loans you and your parents want to accept (e.g., a loan or a grant). This will be a yearly process, but will teach you valuable financial planning and real-world skills. Worried about keeping all your financial aid paperwork organized? These Divoga® Mediterranean Mosaic 1” Binders at Office Depot and OfficeMax retail stores and online at officedepot.com are perfect to store your financial aid paperwork in.

5. Make sure to take notes

In the past, taking notes might have been boring or arbitrary, but in college your notes are essential to proper studying and success. Most likely whatever your professor is lecturing about will be a question on your exam, but that information won’t be included in a textbook. It’s up to your comprehensive note-taking skills and active listening to help you remember key concepts. Nobody passed their English final by memorizing The Odyssey –– it’s the detailed notes from class that earn you the A. These Divoga® Mediterranean Mosaic Composition Books at Office Depot and OfficeMax retail stores and online at officedepot.com provide sleek styles to capture all your important notes.

6. Schedule time for something fun

Financial aid, homework and notes?! Yikes! Any upperclassman will be honest and tell you that college isn’t easy, but it’s worth the hard work. By far the most important aspect of your campus life is to make sure that you’re having fun. Whether it’s dressing up your dorm room, joining an a cappella group or taking a study break to the beach, find as much time as you can to slip in your favorite activities. It will break up your work load and keep you grounded in how truly amazing the college experience is.

Our final note to freshman and sophomores is don’t sweat it! You are nearly halfway there to becoming the ultimate collegiette rock stars. Stick to our tips, gear up for college at Office Depot and OfficeMax retail stores or online at officedepot.com, and you’ll be set for success.

5 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Gossip About Your Ex

$

It doesn’t matter who you are, a breakup is a shitty experience for everyone. If only all of the negative feelings associated with your ex could just magically disappear—but, unfortunately, they can’t. There are many things you should do to help you heal from a breakup, and there are many things you shouldn’t do. What’s one of them? Gossiping about your ex.

No matter how much resentment you hold toward your ex, you should avoid speaking badly about them. If you’re wondering why, look no further! We’ve consulted April Masini, a relationship and etiquette expert, to spill the truth on this unhealthy habit.

1. Your ex is your ex for a reason

You’ve heard it before, collegiettes—leave the past in the past! By gossiping about your ex, you are inadvertently carrying him or her into your future, and you cannot successfully move on this way.

Masini reiterates this point. “Bringing your ex back into your life by gossiping doesn’t help you move forward,” she says. “Start spending your energy on new, fresh, positive people and things. Let your ex fade into the background!” When a chapter in your life finishes, don’t keep rereading it. Move onto the next one (hint: it’s probably a better one, anyway)!

2. It is bad branding for yourself

You should always prioritize your relationships with other people, but never at the expense of your own reputation. After all, you’re stuck with yourself for life! When you gossip about an ex, not only are you hurting their image, but you are also hurting your own.

Think of yourself as a brand and this gossiping as bad branding. “When you gossip about anyone, you’re speaking ill of them,” Masini says. “That ends up making you look worse than anything bad you had to say about that ex. Do you really want to be a person who’s known for spreading negativity?” No matter how much this person might have hurt you, you can rise above the pain by acting mature.

3. You could be distorting the truth

If you’ve ever had a rumor spread about you, you know that it is usually based on a lie someone made up to hurt you. You also know how annoying it can be to get people to believe the truth! Why would you want to distort the truth for someone else? Trust us, it is not worth it.

“Gossip is at least once removed from the truth—and often twice, three times or more removed,” she says. “You know what happens when you whisper down the lane: you get a distorted truth. Chances are, the gossip you are spreading isn’t true.” Stop with the lies and get off the gossip train!

Additionally, when you gossip about your ex, you become part of the gossip about your ex. “The story will be told that YOU said such and such about your ex, and now you’re not just listening or telling gossip, you’re part of the story,” Masini says. Once again, you are hurting your own image.

4. It prevents you from actually feeling single

Think about it, ladies: how will you ever truly understand what it means to be single if you keep bringing up a previous relationship? Newsflash: you won’t.

By gossiping about an ex, you are engaging in his or her life. “In your mind, you’re back together in some form,” Masini says. “This keeps you from really feeling single and until you feel single, you can’t truly move on and find fresh, new love with someone else.” Stop the gossip and open your heart to someone new.

5. It can make things awkward

If you dated your ex for a long time, chances are you have mutual friends. Please, for the sake of everyone involved, don’t make it awkward for those people. Gossiping about your ex puts your friends in an uncomfortable position. No matter how much you dislike this person, it really isn’t fair to expect others to do the same.

For Kristen, a student at UNC Chapel Hill, speaking ill of your ex does nothing but foster bitterness. “Talking about your ex can be unappealing to people around you, and can make you look catty and spiteful,” she says. “If you and your ex have mutual friends, it may put them in an awkward position.” Just because you aren’t friends with your ex does not mean you have to have bad blood.

Rachel Petty, a senior at James Madison University, feels similar. “My ex and I are in the same friend group, so anything either of us says is bound to get back to the other,” she says. “Also, we used to be super close and still care about each other, so there’s no reason to throw around negativity!” We could not agree more.

A breakup will never ever be an enjoyable experience, collegiettes. No matter how hurt you may feel, keep this in mind and understand that better days are ahead. But, the only way to get to the good days is to let go of the bad days. You’re too good to be wasting your time gossiping about your ex, so just don’t do it!

No friend group would be complete without someone who is just as goofy as she is fierce. That’s where the bomb.com Hanna Marin comes in! Her wardrobe gives the clueless Cher a run for her money and her sassy one-liners let us know her smarts are highly underestimated. With a dreamy beau at her side, a killer stare that could turn anyone to stone and a kickass attitude, this pretty little liar is a force to be reckoned with.

Hanna’s head may be in the clouds more than the books (sooo she’s no Spencer Hastings) and she’s probably not getting down and dirty (okay, not an Emily Fields either). But there’s plenty to appreciate about this fashionista (shall we say, Aria Montgomery-esque). You just may be the Hanna Marin of your friends if you’re the life of the party who always has something snappy to say! These 22 signs will let you know for sure, but read carefully! There can only be one Hanna in the group and we wouldn’t want that precious title being thrown around loosely!

1. You can’t help but speak before you think

A case of word vomit, perhaps?

2. You tend to put your own spin on a classic saying

3. Hitting the books is not really your thing

4. But you’re much smarter than you let on

5. Which explains why your witty one-liners pack a mean punch!

That one will definitely sting in the morning!

6. You never underestimate the power of a good pair of heels

7. In your eyes, any occasion is an opportunity for you to look your best

8. So your every move is calculated when it comes to your fashion choices

Erm, isn't that like the point of Pinterest anyway?

9. You always speak your mind

10. You and your cellphone are attached at the hip

11. But not as attached as you are to your beau

#Halebforever #relationshipgoals

12. You do NOT play when it comes to your girls

13. And you hate to be left out

14. Your mom is most definitely your rock

15. Your sass is always written all over your face

And so is your excitement:

16. You have your not-so-bright moments

17. And you have your fair share of insecurities

18. But you’ve completely transformed yourself into a total "it girl"

19. You’re not afraid to tear it up on the dance floor

20. Caffeine practically runs through your veins

21. And there’s never a dull moment when a bombshell like you is around

Shall we say life of the party?

22. Basically, you’re the total package!

Beauty, brains, personality and all!

Here's What Margot Robbie Had to Say About THAT 'Vanity Fair' Piece

Remember that creepy AF Vanity Fair profile of Margot Robbie? The one where writer Rich Cohen uses words like "second-semester freshman,""too fresh to be pegged,""simple" and "tall but only with the help of certain shoes" to describe the talented actress? Yeah, nobody was happy about that—and Robbie didn't take too well to it, either.

In an interview on Australian show The Project, Robbie recalls, "That one was an odd one, a really odd interview, I don't know how that's going to come out." Knowing now how it did turn out, she says, "Yeah, the tone of this is really weird, I don't really know what he's trying to get at or play at." She added that she wasn't expecting any sort of controversy over the piece, however—and the reason why is so unfortunate.

"But I've read far more offensive, far more sexist, insulting, derogatory, disgusting things on a daily basis," she says. "Maybe I'm desensitized to it now."

Fortunately, she—and the rest of the world!—have empowered fans who won't let the bullshit slide. As for the lesson we can all take away from this? "Don't you mess with the Aussies!" she says.

'The Bachelorette' Recap: JoJo Sends the Next Bachelor Home, Chase Loses All Chill

This week’s episode of The Bachelorette picks up with JoJo proving to America that she can squat in a tight dress while making tough decisions.

Luke tells JoJo he loves her, but it’s too little too late—she has already decided to send him home.

The world stops spinning. Birds will never sing again. Love does not exist.

Silver lining: Luke will probably be the next Bachelor. Hooray, life is worth living again.

Things don’t look as sunny for JoJo, whose final options are Jordan, Robby and Chase.

Alas, JoJo must continue on her journey to find Mr. Right, even though there is no way one of these saps is her soulmate.

But it’s fantasy suites week, so we might as well enjoy the hilarity while we can, right?

First up is Robby. His one-on-one is mostly rained out, but that doesn’t stop him from getting a pedicure and bringing up his ex again.

At dinner, Robby shares a note his dad gave him after hometowns. Clearly, Robby wrote this to himself and pretended it was from his dad because the specifics of the letter are so not dad material. But maybe Robby’s dad is just as inappropriate with gestures of love as Robby is.

During Robby’s fantasy suite date, it becomes evident that we *will* have to watch the morning after breakfasts.

After her date with Robby concludes, JoJo reveals that she is love with Robby, to which I have to laugh because she has clearly been in love with Jordan for, like, ever.

So the saga of being in love with two people at the same time begins…

Jordan’s date has a totally different vibe. JoJo is giddy and affectionate, like a middle schooler with a massive crush.

JoJo warns Jordan that they’ll be “doing something active” on their date. But if you thought they were heading straight to the fantasy suite, surprise: they’re hiking to a sacred temple!

Note: They never break a sweat, but there is lots of heavy breathing. Feel free to make your own joke here.

Finally, they reach the temple, and since there is no kissing allowed, JoJo and Jordan are forced to actually have a conversation with each other.

Their conversation continues into the dinner portion of their date. Even though things feel extra serious, JoJo and Jordan are talking about the same thing they’ve been talking about this entire season: her doubts about an IRL relationship with Jordan.

And Ben. Somehow Ben makes his way into this convo, and it is awkward AF.

Regardless, they make it to the fantasy suite and wake up the next morning looking exactly the way they did the night before. I imagine they both insisted on hair and makeup before the cameras started rolling again.

If you still care, Chase has a date during which he is strangely playful with JoJo. He even dangles a fish over her mouth. I think, “Ew, gross.” JoJo thinks, “Aw, how cute. Chase may not be a robot after all.”

The day and dinner with Chase appear to go well, but when he decides to tell JoJo he loves her in the fantasy suite, JoJo is DONE. She leaves the room to have a panic attack, then races back inside to dump Chase on the spot.

It’s sad for Chase but fortunate for us that this was the ~*first*~ time Chase ever told a woman he’s in love with her.

This alone is enough for Chase to lose it and develop a fully-formed personality I’m almost certain did not exist before this moment.

Chase’s Sasha Fierce is by far the most interesting thing about him, as he tears into JoJo for stealing his ILY flower.

To make up for a heartbreak that will only further stunt his emotional development, the producers send Chase home in style.

It is quite obvious to me at this point that JoJo desperately wants everyone to like her. So she’s pretty surprised when Chase doesn’t thank her for beating up on his heart.

JoJo’s fleet of blue-shirt-wearing suitors arrives to the rose ceremony, and the Bachelorette naively believes this will be a piece of a cake. Two guys, two roses—even the monkey who’s been stalking JoJo this entire episode can do the math on that one.

But wait—Chase returns to try to salvage the last shred of hope he has to be the next Bachelor.

He apologizes, and I instantly hate him all over again. Bring back angry Chase!

Ultimately, JoJo gives out her roses to Jordan and Robby (shocker!) and gets one step closer to becoming Mrs. Rodgers.

Bernie Sanders Says He's With Her in DNC Speech

To the dismay of some of his more hardcore supporters, Senator Bernie Sanders took the stage at the Democratic National Convention Monday night not as the nominee for president, but as a supporter of his former opponent Hillary Clinton.

“I am proud to stand with her,” Sanders said, to a mixed reaction from a crowd that was undoubtedly not as unified as the Democratic party would like.

On the day of his speech, there were protesters outside Wells Fargo Center angry about the results of the election—Just last week, leaked emails from the Democratic National Committee showed some party officials were biased against Sanders in the primary election. The leak, some believe, proves that the election was indeed rigged against the Senator, and that he could have won otherwise.

And as some of his supporters booed at the mere mention of Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine on the floor of the convention, he asked his supporters to stop via a text message, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Even his former National Press Secretary Symone Sanders weighed in on Twitter, saying, “No one stole this election from us…There are other qualms, other valid arguments, but a stolen election is not one. I worked there.”

And when the Vermont Senator took the stage on Monday night, he received a close to five minute standing ovation for his efforts and message in the election. There were even a few people in the crowd openly sobbing at the sight of the beloved candidate as he spoke to the packed stadium of supporters of both himself and Clinton.

The 'Bernie or Bust' movement will likely continue despite Sanders’ comments at the DNC. But last night he gave his strongest, most compelling endorsement of the former Secretary of State so far.

To stop the jeers from the audience, Sanders ended almost every mention of Clinton with a note about the strong platform she is running on in the general election. And as she has now adopted a lot of the more progressive policy plans that endeared Sanders to his voter base—such as promising free college tuition to some families—it became pretty hard for them to boo.

Sanders' emphasis on economic inequality was second to none in this election, making his praise for Clinton’s policy on the matter all the more important.

“Hillary Clinton understands that if someone in America works 40 hours a week, that person should not be living in poverty. She understands that we must raise the minimum wage to a living wage. And she is determined to create millions of new jobs by rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure—our roads, bridges, water systems and wastewater plants,” Sanders said.

While the Sanders campaign is over and a majority of people believe it is now time to unite with Clinton, the emotion at the convention as Sanders spoke was really something to see. The crowd's reaction to his speech truly shows just how much his campaign resonated, and how many people are determined to continue the movement he started.

Michelle Obama SLAYED Last Night at the DNC

After a chaotic day, Michelle Obama and the other prime time speakers at the Democratic National Convention seemed to bring unity to a very raucous crowd on Monday night. Despite protests in the name of Bernie Sanders and soon-to-be former DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz getting booed off stage, the entire night felt different when First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama spoke to the crowd.

Obama spoke about how her daughters have been raised in the world of politics, saying, "...we [the President and First Lady] insist that the hateful language they hear from public figures on TV does not represent the true spirit of this country...we explain that when someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don't stoop to their level. Our motto is, when they go low, we go high."

She argued that while the opposition in this election tends to go for insults and inflammatory remarks that marginalize certain groups, the right thing to do is not to succumb to their ways and to remain strong.

This part of the speech drew loud cheering from the crowd, but it wasn't even the best part of her time on stage.

Alluding to what she has said before at commencement speeches, Michelle Obama reiterated the importance of inclusiveness and acceptance in America and how it helps our children believe they can do anything—a kind of cliched idea that became more inspiring than ever through her words.

“That is the story of this country...The story of generations of people who felt the lash of bondage, the shame of servitude, the sting of segregation, who kept on striving, and hoping, and doing what needed to be done," Obama said. "So that today, I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves. And I watch my daughters — two beautiful intelligent black young women — play with the dog on the White House lawn.”

Obama even teared up a little as she said, "And because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters and all of our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States."

The First Lady said that both Clinton and Vice Presidential pick Tim Kaine are the right choice for America—public servants who will work to make the world a better, more inclusive place for the generations to come.

“You see, Hillary understands that the presidency is about one thing and one thing only. It is about leaving something better for our kids…And as my daughters set out on the world, I want a leader who is worthy of that truth, a leader worthy of my girls’ promise and all of our kids’ promise,” Obama said.

The full transcript of the First Lady’s DNC speech can be read here.
