HC's Pre-Election Survey #2: College Women Aren't Loving Hillary

More than 580 college women took our second survey on the presidential election last week. A LOT had changed in the seven months since our first pre-election survey—For one thing, the candidate pool went from 13 viable candidates in October to only three today. We wanted to find out if all the election drama had changed our readers’ minds about the candidates or the issues, and who they might choose to vote for come November.

We picked a weird week to do our survey—During the week the survey was open, both Ted Cruz and John Kasich dropped out of the running after losses in Indiana. Our survey results allowed respondents to choose Kasich and Cruz as answers to some questions, as they were still in the race when the survey first went live.

The biggest difference between our first survey and this one was how college women perceived the candidates. In October, more college women had a positive impression of Hillary Clinton than a negative impression. Unfortunately for Hillz, that’s changed. Now, 41 percent of respondents said they had a negative impression, while 31 percent had a positive impression. But this doesn’t mean they would decline to vote for Clinton. In match-ups against any of the Republican candidates, Clinton still came out ahead.

Unsurprisingly, our readers are still seriously feelin’ the Bern—and not feelin’ the Donald. Among survey respondents, 68 percent had a positive impression of Bernie Sanders, and 50 percent said they would vote for him if they were voting today. Plus, way more college women know about Bernie these days. While in October, over 7 percent of respondents reported not knowing who Bernie was, now less than 0.2 percent said the same.

For Trump, on the other hand, not much has changed. He has virtually the same rating as seven months ago—87 percent of survey respondents have a negative impression of him. But now that he’s the presumptive nominee, 7 percent of college women say they would vote for him, as opposed to 3 percent before.

While Kasich had to drop out of the race, his schtick as the one decent, grown-up Republican candidate seems to have worked in appealing to college women. He was the No. 1 Republican candidate in this survey—even though he dropped out of the race part of the way through—with nearly 9 percent saying they would vote for him right now. He also did much better than Trump in match-ups with the Democratic candidates. Only 15 percent of survey respondents chose Trump over Clinton and Sanders, but when Kasich was the Republican candidate, 35 percent chose him over Clinton, and 25 percent chose him over Sanders. Maybe Kasich should have tried to stick out out after all (though his delegate count was pretty sad).

In terms of the issues, not much has changed in the last several months. College women still say reproductive rights, education and the economy are the most important issues to them in this election, while climate change and freedom of religion won’t affect their vote. It’s obvious why Bernie is doing so well—His major talking points of universal health care, free college and a better deal for the 99 percent align perfectly with the priorities of college women. Meanwhile, Trump’s blunt rhetoric regarding immigration and American strength has fallen flat.

Study Says Bernie Sanders’ Health Plan Could Double U.S. Debt

Bernie Sanders has come further than most people ever thought he would in the presidential race. He’s among the last three fighting for a presidential bid. Even though his chances of winning the nomination are still slim as long as he doesn’t convince superdelegates to support him, he has a huge number of millennials on his side. That’s probably due to his progressive policies. National healthcare, free state school tuition, taxing the richest of the rich—what millennial dealing with college debt and trying to fight for a decent job in the workforce wouldn’t want that?

However, there may be a pretty big mistake in Bernie’s plan. A study has found that his proposal for national healthcare would add up to more than $18 trillion in debt over a decade. This could mean that the middle class and poor would need to pay even more in taxes.

The Tax Policy Center and the Urban Institute in Washington came up with these numbers. According to The Washington Post, Bernie’s programs would cost about $33 trillion in federal money, most of which would go to national health insurance. However, over the same time period of ten years, the American public would be paying $15 trillion in new taxes.

Doing the math (let’s see, 33 – 15 = 18…it’s been a long time since I’ve had to take a math class), there would be $18 trillion left over for the federal government to somehow come up with or borrow. “Thus, the proposed taxes are much too low to fully finance his health plan,” concluded the Urban Institute.

The U.S. already has about $19 trillion in national debt. If these studies are correct, Sanders’ programs could double the crippling amount.

This would create a potential drag on the U.S. economy, which could increase costs for pretty much everyone trying to invest in or buy things like homes or businesses. According to Politico, Len Burman, head of the Tax Policy Center, said “That could be very damaging to the economy…Sanders would obviously need a whole lot more revenues to pay for this.”

Bernie and his people don’t buy into the studies, though. “This study significantly understates the savings in administration, paperwork, and prescription drug prices that every major country on earth has successfully achieved by adopting a universal health care program,” said Warren Gunnells, Sanders’ policy director, to Politico. “If every other major country can spend less on health care and insure all of their people, so can the U.S.”

Sanders may be correct here. Currently, the United States is the only remaining industrialized country without some form of universal healthcare. “The fact of the matter is that the U.S. spends far more per capita on health care with worse health outcomes than any major country on earth,” continued Gunnels to The Washington Post.

Without including the $18 trillion to make up for, Sanders’ plan already called for tax hikes across the board. This was in the hopes that the benefits provided would outweigh the hikes—which is true for all except the top five percent.

People in the bottom 20 percent of income would pay about $209 more in taxes per year, but receive about $10,300 in benefits, according to NPR. However, the top 5 percent would pay over $130,000 per year in taxes—while only receiving about $19,000 in benefits. If the debt increases occurred, each bracket could need to pay even more taxes every year.

The study did not take into account increases in efficiency of healthcare spending that Bernie’s camp has in mind. The message is still pretty clear: unless Bernie is able to completely overhaul the healthcare system, universal healthcare would cost a lot of money.

George Zimmerman Tried to Auction Off the Gun Used to Kill Trayvon Martin

This is likely to be a story that gets people’s blood boiling. Apparently, George Zimmerman, the man who killed unarmed black teen Trayvon Martin in 2012, attempted to auction off the gun he used to kill Martin. The gun has now been removed from the auction website, according to CNN.

Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter in his 2013 trail, a jury decision that had much of the public up in arms. The 2012 shooting opened a dialogue about race and gun control in the United States, and helped spark the Black Lives Matter movement.

The gun was listed on the site gunbroker.com with a description presumably written by Zimmerman himself. It read, “This is a piece of American History," according to NBC News. The bidding was set to begin at $5,000.

The page said that part of the profits would go towards, "fight(ing) BLM (Black Lives Matter) violence against Law Enforcement officers" as well as "ensure(ing) the demise of … Hillary Clinton's anti-firearm rhetoric."

Regardless of your position on the trial, it certainly seems like selling a gun that was used to kill someone is, at the very least, bad form. Zimmerman may have realized that and taken the gun off the auction site. When CNN tried to reach him, he picked up the phone but said he wasn't speaking to the media and hung up.

The 5 Biggest Communication Mistakes & How to Fix Them

$
0
0

We’ve been hearing “use your words” ever since we hit preschool and crayons became a hot commodity. While we’re no longer 3-year-olds battling it out for the “razzle dazzle rose” color, communicating well is still essential — especially when it comes to you and your SO. So how come we’re still making all of these communication mistakes?

Good news: It’s never too late to change your ways. We’ve rounded up the five worst communication mistakes you’re making with your SO and how to fix them. While the coolest Crayolas in the box might not be at stake, your relationship is, and we’d call that pretty important.

1. Kitchen-sinking

Think about the last fight you and your SO had. Did you stick to the topic that started the disagreement, or did you start bringing up each and every complaint that’s ever passed through your mind since the dawn of time — err, the beginning of your relationship?

Maybe initially your boyfriend is annoyed because you promised to go to a movie with him and then you bailed. Instead of concentrating on just that incident, you get defensive and point out he almost never comes to your open-mic nights.

“Any time someone’s bringing up the past, he or she is indicating resentment and unresolved issues,” says Patrick Wanis, a human behavior and relationship expert.

How to fix it:

If it’s pretty clear that you’re bringing up past arguments just to deflect blame, you’ll have to take a different approach. Wanis recommends making a list about the topics that keep coming up and planning a discussion about them for when you and your SO are both calm. “You’ll have less arguments in the future if you resolve those issues now,” he says.

Remind yourself that staying on topic is essential. After all, how can you solve the original problem if you’re constantly bringing up unrelated ones? So the next time you and your SO are arguing, pause and take a second to remember what originally started the fight. If you’re far from that issue, interject by saying, “I think we’ve gotten a little off track here. Originally, I was upset because…”

2. Freezing your partner out

If you’re still using the silent treatment, then that preschool reference is way too relevant. Not only is ignoring your SO immature, it’s toxic to your relationship as well. Sure, your boyfriend or girlfriend will figure out really quickly that you’re upset and you’ll get the short-term gratification of “punishing” him or her, but over time, your SO will feel resentful of your manipulative tactics.

It’s also impossible to resolve anything when one person is completely shut off, meaning that issue you were so upset about in the first place will just fester.

“You’ll never have success,” Wanis says. “The reason people use the silent treatment is to communicate that they are angry and that they’re trying to hurt you. It’s not a wise approach — it doesn’t solve anything.”

How to fix it

This fix is pretty easy: Stop using the silent treatment. The next time you’re angry and tempted to ignore or be curt with your SO, ask yourself if you want a Brad and Jen relationship or a Brad and Angie relationship. If it’s the latter (because they’re still together, obvi), then make yourself talk things out instead of relying on power plays.

If you want to suggest to your boyfriend or girlfriend that you’re upset, the more mature way to do that is simply to tell him or her, Wanis says.

Try saying calmly, “I’m angry because…” Your conflicts will be resolved way faster, and your SO will appreciate your straightforwardness.

3. Being defensive

So, who likes being told they’ve messed up?

(Crickets)

Criticism — even when it’s constructive — can be hard to take. However, when it comes to your love life, you’re going to have to be open to feedback.

How do you know if you’re being too sensitive? When your boyfriend tells you that you seemed kind of quiet at dinner, do you assume he’s calling you moody and snap, “Do you know how much I’ve had to do this week? I’m obviously exhausted!” or do you say, “Sorry about that — I’ve had a crazy seven days, and I need a dose of Nutella and Game of Thrones to rejuvenate.”

In case it’s not obvious, you want your response to be more like the second.

How to fix it

“Feeling insecure or feeling threatened makes you defensive,” Wanis explains. He says that by figuring out the root of your behavior, you can modify your response. Instead of immediately snapping back when your boyfriend brings up something that’s bugging him, pause, recognize that you feel attacked, tell yourself you’re overreacting and then try to respond more appropriately. If you need a little more time to calm down, you can even say, “I’m feeling a little defensive right now. Can we talk about this later tonight or tomorrow? I definitely want to hear what you have to say, but I want to be in the right state of mind so I can really listen.”

You can also ask your SO to clarify his or her complaint. Ninety-nine percent of the time it will be about a smaller issue than you’re anticipating, so once your SO explains what he or she means, you won’t feel as big of a need to defend yourself.

“Practice mindfulness: being aware of your thoughts so you can separate them from your actions,” Wanis says. It’s not that you always have to agree with the criticism, but you do have to be open to hearing it.

4. Having arguments over text

It doesn’t matter how many emojis are added to the library — it’s always way more difficult to communicate over text than in person. “I’m sorry” can mean “I’m genuinely apologetic” or “I’m sorry you feel that way” — and you have no way of knowing which “I’m sorry” your SO is using without body language, tone of voice and facial expressions.

“The best ways to communicate are through body language and voice tonality,” Wanis says. “With texting, you completely remove that.”

How to fix it

On your end, it’s easy: Don’t send any angry texts that could lead to a fight. But what if your SO is the one to start things?

If you get a message saying something like, “BTW, I really did not appreciate how you acted tonight,” reply with, “I really want to talk about this — when I can actually see you.” Then give him or her a time or opportunity to discuss the problem. Bonus: By the time you guys meet up, your SO will probably have cooled down!

For those collegiettes out there in long-distance relationships, we have bad news: Virtual fights are almost inevitable. However, if you can, try to move the conversation to video chat. Just put down the iPhone, and it’s less likely that one of you will get hurt.

5. Trying to “win” the argument

When it comes to sports and the lottery, winning is awesome. However, when you try to win at fighting, most of the time you actually lose.

That’s because, according to Wanis, focusing on who’s right distracts you from the real mission: coming to a compromise you guys both like.

For example, suppose a discussion about whether you should spend celebrate a holiday at his house or your house turns into you trying to prove his mom dislikes you. At a certain point, you’re so caught up in convincing him that you’re totally unresponsive to whatever he’s saying — and making him less likely to listen to you. Coming to an agreement? Probably not going to happen. It’s a vicious cycle (kind of like J Bieb’s and Selena’s romance) and definitely takes its toll on a relationship.

How to fix it

Remind yourself that you’re not Rocky and this isn’t a boxing match — so stop trying to win!

If your boyfriend hates that you sometimes send drunken Snapchats that happen to include other (attractive) guys, don’t spend the whole argument trying to get him to recognize that you’re totally innocent. Instead, figure out the root of the problem (is he mad that you’re Snapping under the influence, or because you’re spending time with other guys?) and come up with a solution.

Like with over-defensiveness, Wanis recommends using the mindfulness technique.

“If you find yourself always needing to be right, pause, observe your behavior and detach yourself,” he says. “Then you can stop trying to win the argument and focus on what’s really important.”

We’d like to amend the advice of all the preschool teachers and moms of the world: It’s not just “use your words,” but “use your words well.” Good communication is key to a healthy relationship, so if you and your SO are guilty of any of these five errors, you should fix that, ASAP. Now can you please pass the Crayons?

Report Finds That Female CEOs Earn More Than Male Counterparts

Could we have a reverse wage gap on our hands? A report has found that in 2015, the salaries of the female CEOs of the 100 largest public companies in the U.S. were significantly higher than the salaries of their male counterparts.

Equilar, the compensation firm that created the study, put together a list of the top 100 American companies in terms of revenue, and found that female CEOs in this group earned an annual average of $22.7 million, while male CEOs were paid an average of $14.9 million, according to Fortune.

Equilar’s theory also proves true when you look at the median earnings, according to TIME magazine. Female CEOs earned a median of $20 million in 2015, compared to $14.5 million for the entire group.

But don’t get too excited yet, ladies. It's important to note that the small number of female CEOs analyzed in the study greatly affected the results. Of the 100 companies included in the study, only eight of them had female CEOs, according to Equilar. So while the women's average salary comes from eight women, the men's average comes from 93 male CEOs (one of the companies has two CEOs).

Safra Catz, who tied with her co-CEO Mark Hurd for the highest-ranking salary on the list, earned $53.2 million last year, which also significantly brought up the average of the women’s salaries, Fortune reports.

While its super encouraging to see an increasing number of women working their way onto these lists, they still only made up 7.9 percent of the CEOs in Equilar’s study. This data shows that, although there has been progress, we have a long way to go before achieving gender parity in the business sector.

The Cornell Daily Sun Won't Be Daily Anymore

On Monday, in the midst of the ever-raging battle between the tradition of print newspapers and the convenience of laptops and smartphones, The Cornell Daily Sun announced that it would decrease the number of print issues each week from five to three, according to the The New York Times.

Because of our tendency to use the internet, and especially social media, to get news, the past few years have been tough for print publications. For a growing number of student newspapers, the solution has been to cut down on or get rid of print altogether.

There's a long list of college papers who have already made the shift to digital, including Ohio University, the University of Georgia and Columbia University, the Times reported. However, many were surprised when the Daily Sun, which has been repeatedly ranked as of the country’s best student papers, announced via an email to alumni that they had been struggling financially for years, and planned on reducing their print schedule in order to focus more on digital journalism.

Even if changes like these are driven by finances, they can also force the students working for the paper to be more creative and make a better final product, Daily Sun editor Sofia Hu told the Times. She expects that the time saved from not having to produce a print edition will be invested in developing multimedia stories and focusing on longform journalism and investigative stories.

In an article posted to the Daily Sun’s website, editors Paulina Glass, Phoebe Keller and Sofia Hu expressed optimism about the future of the paper. “The most informative news is not published a day later, in next day’s paper issue, but rather continuously updated online,” the article reads. “Additionally, without the time or space constraints of a print paper, stories published digitally are becoming more comprehensive and drawing on multimedia and graphical elements to tell more thorough narratives.”

“By freeing ourselves from the constraints of a daily print model,” the editors wrote, “We are pushing ourselves further to pursue top-quality, around-the-clock journalism.”

Professors May be Forced to Report Sexual Assault if a Student Tells Them About It

The University of Oregon considered a controversial new policy this week that would require its employees to report any sexual assault allegations they hear from students, according to the Huffington Post.

There are varying opinions on the policy. The rationale for adopting the rule is to ensure the safety of its students and make sure sexual assault is investigated when it happens. According to the school’s general counsel’s office, Oregon needs the policy in order to comply with federal law. The rule would require any professor told about a sexual assault by a student reporting those details to the school’s Title IX coordinator.

But many feel that this rule would take away choice from survivors—for example, if a student has been sexually assualted but does not feel up to the process of reporting their case. These students would no longer feel comfortable going to professors to talk about their assaults.

“I think people get confused between stopping a cover-up and, on the other hand, requiring victims to give up their options,” Jennifer Freyd, an Oregon professor who studies sexual violence trauma, told the Huffington Post.

However, Julian R. Williams, vice president for compliance at George Mason University, explained to the Huffington Post that the mandatory reporting wouldn't mean that the student has to prosecute their attacker. Instead, the reporting allows university administrators to make sure the student gets what they need, whatever that may be. “What you want to do is be supportive, ask if they’re OK, if they’re safe — there’s no runaway train that starts,” Williams explained. “A good Title IX coordinator will reach out to the student and let them know their options, both internal and external resources. The ball is still very much in the student’s court.”

The University’s decision remains to be seen, but it does beg the question of whether or not this policy would actually have the desired effect of protecting students.

Taylor Swift Has Accepted the Taylor Swift Award

A few weeks ago, Broadcast Music Inc. announced that this year, they would be honoring Taylor Swift and all her musical achievements with a brand new award, fittingly titled The Taylor Swift Award. Considering that the only other time a BMI award was named after a musical icon was back in 1990 (for Michael Jackson), we think this is a huge deal for Taylor. "Taylor Swift has transformed pop culture through her songs, artistry and indomitable spirit," said Barbara Cane, the Vice President of Writer/Publisher Relations. "She has had a profound impact, not only musically, but also through her personal conviction and commitment to create a standard that values and respects music for everyone. We felt it appropriate to award Taylor with an honor that is as unique and special as she is."

Two nights ago, Taylor took the stage at the 64th annual BMI awards to accept The Taylor Swift Award. In a video posted on Instagram, Tay showed a snippet of her acceptance speech, which was exactly what you'd expect from the 1989 singer.

BMI created an award called The Taylor Swift Award because BMI is very very nice

A video posted by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on

"I'm really super relieved that BMI decided to give me The Taylor Swift Award, because if they had [chosen] somebody else to give The Taylor Swift Award to, I'd be, like, kind of bummed about it," she said.

There are plenty of musicians slaying the charts right now, but let's be honest—Taylor Swift is on another level altogther. The fact that she was the highest-earning entertainer last year is just proof of her continued success and awesomeness. Keep on killin' it, Taylor.

This $15,000 Sex Toy is What You Need to Spice Up Your Sex Life, According to Gwyneth Paltrow

In yet another newsworthy update from Goop on how we, too, can look and feel like Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow, readers got an itemized list of the must-have products they need to have fun in the bedroom.

The list includes 18 BDSM-esque items that vary in price—from the equivalent of the cost of a pair of Target yoga pants to that of a moderately priced used car. Paltrow explains, “Sex toys have long since graduated from the floppy rubber things you hide in your bedside table to beautiful works of interactive art.”

Some of her favorite works of art include: a $60 book by Dan Hanson titled “The Big Butt Book 3D” (that may or may not feature Kim K on the cover); the $219 Crave Duet 8GB Lux, which doubles as a vibrator and a thumb drive (no pun intended); and, of course, the absolute essential—a $15,000 24-karat gold dildo (it’s casual).

When you’re not using everything on the list, you’ll want to work on your kegel exercises because, as Paltrow points out, her picks are pretty important when it comes to sex. In Goop’s May issue (which is the sex issue if you hadn’t already guessed), Paltrow shares her favorite app for pelvic floor training. All you have to do—after making the $200 purchase, that is—is insert the small pod-like device like you would a tampon, and turn on your phone’s Bluetooth capability.

Obviously, the folks at Goop have thought of everything. All we can say now is, thanks Gwyn—we are definitely on a first name basis now—for the advice. We’ll let you know how it works out for us.

Miley Cyrus Explains How Much She Regrets Going Blonde

In what can only be described as an essay, pop star Miley Cyrus went on an Instagram rant that proves that blondes don’t always have more fun.

Like only she can, the “Can’t Be Tamed” singer simultaneously turned her hair-dye-gone-wrong experience into an existential crisis and socio-political issue. The star writes, “I felt like a self-obsessed psycho while real issues are out there in the world needing to be dealt with…Donald Trump is running for president (successfully) and climate change is extremely real and scary.”

Learned a valuable lesson in this meaningless process. Bleached my fucking natural healthy a$$ hair rebelling out of boredom while dealing with a consecutive amount of time off on the Woody project ( 2 months ago)! Sitting in a random  apartment with nothing to do but smoke weed (which I should've just appreciated) and fuck with my hair obvi, something inside told me I'd regret it.... That hair color comes in a box (well maybe mine)  therefore it's available to purchase and what grows from my scalp naturally is mine and and only mine!!! Not to mention I felt like a self obsessed psycho while real issues are out there in the world needing to be dealt with I was sitting in front of a mirror going thru strand by strand like my hair and what it looks like actually fucking matters! lol and now I'm out here looking like every Suzy Q & Sally B there is.... Either this shit needs to grow out at super speed or I'm about to go in for a fuckin hair cut realllllll quick!!! #imisstheoldme but I guess even writing this hunk of bull shit means I am thinking about my hair which is equally as lame and self obsessed as all of the above because really this fucking mop will make no difference to that fact Donald Trump is running for president (successfully) and  climate change is extremely real and scary. So please fellow humans next time you feel that tickle in your belly while making a decision listen to what it says and know the true you can never be replicated or replaced you are the one and only you! So bad assssss! Ps if you ever start overthinking shit especially something as silly as hair.... go outside, smell a flower, center your thoughts and find something productive to do with your time.... I wish I would've taken a toke of my own medicine.... Everything is a learning experience.... Even hair LOL PPS this isn't to discredit hair cuts/color as a tool and creative way to express yourself!!!! So if a change is something that feels right to you - fucking DO IT! Don't over think it because in the end it is fucking hair and nothing you do is detrimental and will just be a new chapter for you ❤️ my life is done chronologically in hair styles lol !!!!

A photo posted by Miley Cyrus (@mileycyrus) on

Cyrus describes the whole thing as a valuable life lesson, joking at the end of her rant, “Everything is a learning experience… even hair LOL.” And although going platinum blonde wasn’t for her, she is careful to emphasize, “This isn’t to discredit haircuts/color as a tool and creative way to express yourself.” She says, “If a change is something that feels right to you – fucking DO IT!”

We feel you, Miley. We feel you.

6 Beauty Tricks from the Kardashians You SHOULD Keep Up With

$

Keeping Up with the Kardashians is in its 12th season and Kardashian-Jenner fans everywhere have watched the family go through some serious transformations. We’ve watched Khloe tone it up, we’ve seen Kim as a blonde and we’ve watched Kendall and Kylie go from awkward middle schoolers to model status. Even though the leading ladies get their hair and makeup done by professionals on most days, they’ve still learned a beauty trick or two.

Khloe’s Healthy Brunette-to-Blonde Transition

A photo posted by Khloé (@khloekardashian) on

Once a dark brown maven, Khloe decided to go icy blonde. Since constantly dying your hair can have harmful long-term effects, Khloe’s hair colorist, Tracey Cunningham took it slow when it came to turning her into a blonde bombshell and you should too. Work with one hair colorist and let them know what color you want to be. Depending on what color your hair is now and what your dream color is, there will be a preparation period and you may not get the final color after the first session. During your next trip to the salon, remember slow and steady wins the race!

Kylie’s Krazy, Yet Useful, Skin Moisturizer Trick

Kylie sent the Internet buzzing when she gave her friend a makeover on her namesake app. Why? Because the Snapchat superstar used a large brush by Artis Elite Makeup Brush Collection ($72) to apply moisturizer. Using a (clean!) brush to work moisturizer into your skin has several benefits: you won't be transferring the oils from your fingernails and the dirt from under your nails onto your face; the gentle massage of the brush is good for your skin; and the moisturizer is applied more evenly. Save some money and purchase a dupe of Kylie's brush for under $2 on Ebay!

Kendall’s Everyday Mascara Routine

She may be the face of Estee Lauder’s Sumptuous Knockout Mascara ($27.50) but Kendall’s never been a stranger to the lash-lengthening product. The runway model always boasts a fierce lash game; it’s one of the few trademarks of her beauty routine. How do you get Kendall's great lashes? The key is layering. Avoid clumps and make your lashes look long by waiting a few seconds before putting on a new layer of mascara. Stick to around three layers for ultimate length and volume and strut like you're the model herself.

Caitlyn’s Signature Beach Waves

She may have a beauty team just like her stepdaughters, but Caitlyn Jenner knows how to fend for herself (and her hair) when her hairstylist Courtney Nanson isn’t around. Her secret? The Beachwaver PRO by Sarah Potempa ($199), Nanson told Allure last August. The Beachwaver will save you time and technique because it curls your hair for you, with just the click of a button. When it releases, your hair is one step closer to looking like you spent the day hanging with Jenner in her Malibu pad.

Kim’s Obsession With a Strong Strobe

In 2010, Kim and her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic made a video tutorial about how to do your makeup like Kim. Now, Kim and Mario don’t have to rely on YouTube to share any tutorials because of the Kim Kardashian West app. Take a page from Kim’s makeup book and start strobing. Strobing is a new highlighting technique that's had celebrities, their makeup artists and beauty addicts everywhere going crazy. Simply put highlighter wherever natural light hits your face. It illuminates your cheekbones, nose bridge and cupid’s bow to make it look like you have a constant spotlight on you. Stand in front of your window with a mirror and find out where the light shows you love and get to highlighting. If you need some more guidance, there’s no better way to learn from the duo themselves, so grab a seat and get your highlighter ready.

Kris's Everyday Nude Gloss

The patriarch of the Kardashian-Jenner brand isn't known for keeping it simple. Remember, this is the same mom who called Kim out for her 72-day marriage! But, when it comes to makeup, Kris sticks to what she knows. One of the most prominent parts of Kris's everyday look is her nude, glossy lips. Test it out on yourself by getting a neutral lipstick in your perfect shade and layering on a clear gloss. It's a good partner to a smoky eye and the key to nailing the 'no makeup' makeup look.

Kourtney's Flawless Skin Secret

Kourtney's family and personal drama may be played out on reality television, but the oldest of the famous siblings has kept her beauty routine a mystery. Generally spotted with the least amount of makeup, Kourtney's looks are about as natural as those wheatgrass shots she takes. Knowing you always have to have a strong foundation, Kourtney keeps her skin in check with a Clarisonic. We Need to Change Our Pro Eating Disorder Culture

By Erin Antoch

From the day we are born to the day we die, we are learning. Constantly gathering and computing information that helps us grow as individuals in one way or another. At age five, I learned how to read and what it meant to tell a lie. At age eight, I learned how to write in cursive and that my father has the same handwriting as Santa Claus. At age ten, I learned that winning is not everything, but that I am the kind of person who craves victory at all costs. And at age twelve, I learned what it means to hate your body.

For me, it started gradually. I saw girls in magazines and in movies that I wanted to look like, but could not compare to. In sixth grade, standing five feet tall and weighing in at a meager 100 pounds, I started counting calories and watching what I ate to try to achieve this elusive Marilyn Monroe-meets-Kate Moss figure that was so widely advertised to me. I can recall days when I was simultaneously counting the calories in a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in my mind and wearing a polka dot training bra stuffed with tissues to create the ‘right’ curves. I remember this vividly and it strikes me even to this day, because I was literally altering my body to fit these standards without even knowing why I wanted to fit them. All I knew was that I had a longing to look like those girls; I would compare myself to everyone around me and feel a competitive urge to be skinnier than them, better than them. I began equating popularity with attractiveness, and attractiveness with thinness. In my mind, the less I weighed, the prettier I was.

By ninth grade, it had progressed to a point where I had developed my own little tricks and mannerisms to minimize my caloric intake. If I became a vegetarian, I wouldn’t have to eat my whole dinner. If I was late for the bus, I wouldn’tt have time to eat breakfast and my mom couldn’t blame me for it. If I took too long on my test in class, I’d have to come in at lunchtime and it wouldn’t raise questions. If I go into the big stall in the bathroom, I’ll have room to do jumping jacks to burn a few extra calories. If I was a Christian, I could participate in fasting and no one could say anything about it. So I did.

I would love to sit here and claim that this is just a personal piece about my own journey with my body image, but unfortunately that is not the case. According to the National Eating Disorder Association, 81% of ten year old girls admit that they think they are fat. Eighty-one. That is 81% that should be having fun at recess but instead are comparing their bodies to their classmates’ bodies. Eighty-one percent that have metabolisms at their prime of their life, but are still contemplating eating a chocolate chip cookie “just in case.” Eighty-one percent that should be full of joy and happiness and hope but instead are filled with insecurity and envy and self-loathing.

The list is endless as to the dark sides of eating disorders. But the worst, by far, is that they work. There is a period of time at the dawn of an ED that makes you feel beautiful. You are losing weight, just like you wanted; you are getting compliments and attention, your fingers stay wrapped around the belt loops to prevent your once-fitted jeans from sagging as they slide off your hips with each step, and a sense of pride engulfs you that seems to raise your chin and lift the corners of your mouth without your knowledge with no cease in sight. You are skinny and you are confident and you are achieving something. You are winning. For the first time that you can remember, you are starting to like your body again.

This is the glamour that is perpetuated about anorexia, bulimia and other eating disorders. It is the skinny, popular girls that come out of bathroom stalls wiping their mouths with a smile on their face. It is the bragging to friends about the replacement of a main food group with the tossing back of laxatives. It is the fad dieting and the “Is butter a carb?” and fitting into jeans after a week of fasting and looking amazing in them as if that is all it takes.

What they do not show are the realities of ED’s: the lilac crescent moons tattooed beneath your eyes from fatigue; the classes you fail as you spend your time counting calories or planning workouts instead of paying attention to lectures; the clumps of hair that emerge in your comb from vitamin deficiencies; the yellow, rotting teeth from stomach acid crashing against them multiple times a day; and not to mention the relationships that are destroyed in the process as you choose your eating disorder over your friends.

The media needs to stop perpetuating an “ideal” body type in order to allow men and women alike to find solace in who they are. This piece is not to say that men do not face these issues as well, because they do; increasingly, men are becoming more susceptible to eating disorders as they become more and more objectified in the media. An ideal and equally unrealistic body type—the Liam Hemsworth’s, Zac Efron’s and Ryan Gosling’s—is perpetuated for men as well. To add insult to injury, EDs are even harder for men to admit to and receive help for because it is considered “feminine” to diet and dislike your body (and God forbid any men have feminine characteristics or hobbies).

We need to move away from the mindset that eating disorders are inherently feminine; we need to change the culture that women should focus on their bodies more than other things, that diets are normal for girls and that hating your body is just a part of life—so that affected men may be able in turn to reach out too without a feeling of shame. What I dealt with and overcame is not a fashion statement. It is not trendy, it is not cool and it is not glamourous. We need to change the culture before we can change the statistics.

I'm a Vegetarian Who Spent a Month Eating Meat

At some point a few weeks ago, I found myself craving a chicken sandwich. It was getting bad; I dreamed about eating meat, flipped through cookbooks in my spare time, watched Linda Dee’s step-by-step cooking videos until I drooled. I'd been a vegetarian for four years, so it was natural that I would have cravings, but this time, they were severe. One afternoon, after staring long and hard at a plate of hot wings, I decided I would try it: I would eat meat (albeit only poultry) for a month and see how I liked it.

I started out slow, only a few bites of chicken or turkey a day, and honestly, I wasn’t too impressed. Granted, it was nice to be able to go to a restaurant and order something other than a house salad, but it generally tasted bland and made my tummy rumble. It made me feel bloated.

Related: 20 Signs You're A Proud Vegetarian

After a few days, I adjusted to the taste and feeling, and I started integrating more meat into at least one meal a day, usually dinner. Chicken made soups a little heartier and turkey spiced up my sandwiches. I began to fill up faster and feel more satisfied after meals, and I certainly felt I had more energy. There was no longer a need to stock up on beans and tofu to get enough protein which, although I love them, can get a bit mundane after a while. Oh, and I had more options at the dining hall—which is a big deal.

However, I still couldn’t get myself to sit down in front of a block of poultry and nosh on it. I started to miss my vegetarian meals. The turkey sandwiches quickly became boring and chicken breasts dull; I had no need for the extra meat. I even diverged from poultry one night and had a bit of a hamburger, but that was no better. My stomach was consistently experiencing nagging pains.

I have no opposition to people eating meat. It is our natural instinct to eat what we hunt, and humans are omnivores by nature. Meat is an integral part of our diets and, while some choose to omit it, most thrive on it. Ideally, we should all be eating farm-raised, cage-free, and grass-fed meat; the beef industry alone is an immense contributor to global warming, and the cruelty involved in animal slaughter is irreparable and disgusting. But human beings will continue to eat meat, and while they do, I will play my part by continuing to be a vegetarian.

I feel better without meat. I feel cleaner. I feel morally sound and justified in what I eat. Yes, sometimes it gets a bit old, but really, there is no shortage of options for vegetarians. It’s true that I have to work a little harder for my protein, but there’s nothing some yogurt and almonds can’t fix. Heck, I love tofu. The transition back to vegetarianism was seamless, and in a way it felt like I was back in my element, eating what I loved and feeling ethically and physically better. Eating meat was enlightening but not convincing; I care more about animals that I do about my dinner options. For now, you can find me in the veggie section.

22 Sappy Thoughts You Have When You're About to Graduate

College is the best. Like, actually the best, and graduating is actually the worst. What was that Dr. Seuss quote again, the one about not crying because it's over? LOL, not for us, thank you very much. We're crying most days, thanks to these thoughts creeping up in our senior heads:

"I can't believe this is my last..."

Last class. Last time at the campus gym. Last dollar slice pizza. Every single thing you do is a last, and it is so sad.

"I'm going to miss all my friends so. MUCH."

You keep hugging everyone to the point of near-suffocation.

"These freshmen don't know how lucky they are!"

So ungrateful.

"These really were the best four years of my life."

"What if it doesn't get any better than this?!"

It's all downhill from here. Probably not, though. Right?

"How will I ever repay my parents?"

The classic "Thanks Mom & Dad" on your grad cap is a good place to start.

"Damn I love this school."

You might also settle for getting married on campus. Or, you know, just visiting from time to time—as a last resort, of course.

"This is my home, ya know?"

Your owl never came, so you had to settle for U of Wherever You Went to School. And now you never want to leave.

"GO TEAM GO"

Every tailgate, you'll be there. Is there a prize for most dedicated alum?

"Is it just me, or is the quad/student union/library just breathtakingly beautiful?"

"MUST TAKE IT ALL IN BEFORE I LEAVE FOREVER"

"I wonder what my single best college memory is."

Girl, don't even go there.

"I can't graduate without completing my bucket list!!"

Going on a real college spring break? Check. That one weird school tradition? Not check! Maybe you should just stay an extra term.

"When I leave, won't it be like I was never even here?"

Haha, who are you kidding? Everyone will just be really sad and miserable all the time without you.

"College was just like I imagined it, but better."

Also like school and meeting people and stuff. That was chill too.

"My days are counted right now."

You since September ^

"My kids are so going to the same school as me."

Your future fam ^

"I'm not ready to be a grown-up! I need my mommy!!"

This is a legitimate concern, okay?!

"THIS IS SO UNFAIR"

Seriously, what did you do to deserve the impending doom of graduation? You know, apart from study really hard.

"Literally, I am so blessed."

"So like, wasn't freshman orientation, like, 2 weeks ago?"

"But can they really make me leave, though?"

"My life is over."

Everything will work out—pinky promise! And maybe you should listen to Dr. Seuss after all.

7 Beauty Practices That Sabotage Your Skin

We’ve spent countless hours scouring magazine pages and blogs and spending our money on beauty products, but flawless, glowing skin still eludes us. If you’re putting time and effort into your beauty routine but still not getting results, your skin care routine could be the culprit. Some experts say several practices we swear by for perfect skin are actually bad for us. We talked to some beauty experts to find out which skin care routines you should skip!

1. Exfoliating too often

Many collegiettes think exfoliation is the holy grail of glowing skin, but while skin with dirt and bacteria looks less than desirable, scrubbing away at your skin like it’s your dorm floor is not the answer. Exfoliating too often with microbeads or natural granules like sugar can actually injure your skin. This can lead to dryness and inflammation, destroying healthy cells and promoting skin hyperpigmentation while stripping away natural oils.

New-York-based esthetician Reneé Rouleau agrees with the American Board of Dermatology that you should exfoliate your face and body no more than once or twice a week. This allows you to remove the dead skin without those other harmful effects. Using a chemical exfoliator? Opt for products with beta hydroxy acids over those with alpha hydroxy acids in the list of ingredients, like DHC Salicylic Face Milk ($19); they sting and irritate less than the latter.

2. Putting acne medication all over your face

For the most of the month your skin is normal, but on the week around your period, Mother Nature gifts you with five humungous pimples. So on your way back from class, you pick up some acne products at the campus drugstore. But instead of applying your acne cream to your spots, you put it all over your face. Big no-no.

Aesthetician Lisa O’Neill Flanagan of NYR Organic says, “Acne medication should only be used on spots. It can actually dry out your skin (healthy parts) and cause overproduction of oil, which can in turn cause more breakouts.”

If you’re faced with irregular breakouts, Rouleau instead recommends light exfoliation (remember, just once or twice a week!) to remove dry skin cells, unclog pores and help fade those post-breakout marks. Disinfect the area with a natural astringent like witch hazel to eliminate bacteria and help prevent the spread of breakouts. Finish by hydrating with a water-based moisturizer to keep your skin cells healthy. We recommend Neutrogena’s Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 35 ($11.99).

3. Slathering on thick eye creams

We know too well those eye cream commercials with the models dotting concoctions that look like yogurt under their eyes. Beauty companies are always updating their formulas to be thicker and supposedly more effective. But Rouleau says that “many heavy eye creams typically contain heavy oils, like mineral oil or petroleum [jelly].” These ingredients are not easily absorbed by the skin. They can sit on top of the skin, to an extent suffocating it, but companies use them because they provide a false sense of hydration. What you’re actually is feeling is grease, not moisture.

Flanagan says it’s never too early to start using eye creams, just opt for a lighter formula that sinks into the skin while still keeping it soft and moisturized. She says a good eye cream feels more like a serum, as the delicate skin around the eye area can’t tolerate an overabundance of creams. Try Neutrogena’s Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum ($22.99).

4. Using your fingers as tools

Remember that absurd little brush that came with your cream eye shadow? It turns out you should actually use it! Your fingers may seem more convenient for a quick swipe across your lids, but by doing so, you’re actually contaminating the product with the bacteria from your hands. Flanagan recommends using clean brushes to apply your eye shadows and lip products that come in jars. Check out Ulta’s Large Eyeshadow Brush $14). The synthetic brush works well on both cream and powder shadows.

5. Using cleansing wipes instead of face wash

Reaching for your facial wipes after you come home from a party may seem like a better option than sleeping in your makeup. However, these wipes only remove some of the dirt and makeup from your face, leaving behind irritating residue than can clog your pores.

“It’s better to remove the makeup with a cleansing wipe than not to remove it at all, but it’s always best to cleanse,” Flanagan says. She recommends looking for a face wash with organic and natural ingredients that are gentle on your skin. Try the Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Facial Cleanser $7.99), which does not contain harsh chemicals.

6. Overloading on skin care products

Most collegiettes are beauty-product junkies, using creams and cleansers for acne, dry skin, hyperpigmentation and every other skin condition they can think of. But by over-treating your skin, you can run the risk of over-inflammation.

Forget about all those complicated serums and treatments! Flanagan suggests simplifying your routine to two steps: cleanse and moisturize. She also recommends trying a BB cream for an easy way to get everything your skin needs makeup-wise on a busy day. Try Maybelline’s Dream Fresh BB 8-in-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector ($8.99).

7. Washing your face in the morning

Cleansing your face may seem like a great way to start your day. But Dr. Jessica Krant, a dermatologist from New York, begs to differ. She says that while you’re sleeping, your skin regenerates, reestablishing its pH levels and increasing collagen production. Why would you want to wash off all this hard work?

Flanagan agrees that morning cleansing is unnecessary. “Just rinse with water in the shower or sink and, once again, moisturize!” she says.

On your journey to perfect skin, don’t give up hope. Stick to the basics, like a cleanser and moisturizer that are appropriate for your skin type. Consistency in applying your products and taking off your makeup is essential for getting your best results. It may be a matter of trial and error, but the combination of beauty practices for your best skin is out there!

The Ingredients In Kylie's Lip Kits Are Suspiciously Similar to What's in This $6 Lipstick

Those highly-coveted Lip Kits? Well, they might not be so hard to get your hands on after all. Oh, and you can get them for way, way cheaper, too.

Beauty blogger Stephanie Nicole did a little bit of investigative work and, in comparing the ingredients list for Kylie's matte Lip Kits with those of ColourPop Cosmetics' Ultra Matte Lipsticks, found that the formulations are nearly identical. Considering the fact that both cosmetics brands fall under the same parent company, the similarities are pretty suspicious.

For reference COLOR KEY: Yellow - Same ingredient, same order in formula. Blue - Same ingredient, different order in formula. Purple - Same pigments, different order (pigments are not required to be in order). Please note, this is the updated ColourPop formula. Not the first launch (any color outside their first launch is new formula) Not all ColourPop's ultra mattes have been reformulated yet. According to them, they hope to do it in time. So don't try & compare your first launch to the new Lip Kits...or the first launch lip kits. They are not the same. ADD: also, to be clear, the ingredients do need to be listed in order of highest concentration, to its least. The order does matter in a formula. Even if the ingredients are identical, if they are in a completely different order they won't wear the same. The bulk of the formula, the first several ingredients, are the same, same order. What follows isn't enough to significantly change the wear compared to the new ColourPop Ultra Mattes

A photo posted by Stephanie Nicole (@sf_stef) on

As Nicole points out, the order of the first ingredients—which really makes a difference when it comes to beauty products—are the same. The subtle changes further down in the ingredients list aren't as important; some, for example, can be attributed to the variations in color.

Of course, Kylie's denied these accusations in the past, as ever since the release of her Lip Kits, makeup lovers have noted the similarities between the two products. In one of @kyliecosmetics's first Instagram posts, the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenners is seen posing with the ladies behind ColourPop.

Many users of both brands note that, in their opinion, Kylie's matte lipsticks are much more hydrating than the ColourPop versions. But with the huge differences in cost (ColourPop's lipsticks are just $6 and the Lip Kits will cost you $29), the ColourPop dupes make for a good alternative.

Of course, if you do choose to drop money on a Lip Kit, Nicole reminds us that it's totally okay to decide where you want to spend your money! "If your 'designer' lipstick makes you happy, that's completely cool," Nicole wrote on Instagram. "You never need a reason to like anything." Yas, girl.

The Citadel Denies Student's Request to Wear Hijab

Imagine being accepted into one of your dream schools, but later having to reconsider their offer of acceptance because you cannot practice a staple of your religion.

This is the reality of a prospective Muslim American student at the Citadel, a military college in South Carolina. Although her identify has not been revealed, the school announced this week that her request to wear a hijab in addition to the mandatory uniform has been denied.

News broke of the prospective student’s request when Nick Pinelli, a recent graduate of the Citadel, posted a status on Facebook claiming that allowing the Muslim American student to wear her hijab would promote “inequality” among her fellow cadets.

Due to the student’s commitment to her faith, a spokesperson for her family said that she will likely not attend the school. The family also plans to pursue legal action.

The president of the college, John Rosa, released a statement insisting that a common uniform is “essential to the learning goals and objectives of the college,” and the "standardization of cadets in apparel, overall appearance, actions and privileges is essential to the learning goals and objectives of the college," according to ABC News. Had this change been permitted, it would have been the first change to the uniform in the college’s nearly 175 years.

The U.S. military changed its uniform policy in 2014 to allow individuals with deeply held religious beliefs to be able to express them through their clothing, as long as it had no effect on their performance. For example, a Sikh soldier would be allowed to wear a turban as part of his uniform. This is the example that The Citadel should be following.

This New Dating Site Could Help You Escape a Trump Presidency

You’ve probably cracked a joke or two about moving to Canada if Trump were president way before he had "GOP frontrunner" attached to his name. Now that he is the only person left standing in the Republican Party and the presumptive nominee, the jokes aren’t so funny anymore.

First things first is to get your passport in order, but where do you go from there? Look no further than Maple Match, a dating service to bring Americans to their perfect match in Canada. While some are wary that it’s only a joke, the 25-year-old creator, Joe Goldman, is making this out to be the real deal.

The idea came to him when his friends from his home state of Texas kept threatening to leave the U.S. behind if Trump is ever called “Mr. President.”

The website has already attracted sign-ups from 13,000 people in both Canada and the United States, exemplifying Canada’s willingness to help us in our grim-looking situation. Currently there is a waitlist to sign up now, but the website is hoping to get people matched up as soon as possible.

“This is about finding the right partner and not caring if they’re on the other side of the border,” Goldman told The Guardian. “If that person happens to be from Nunavut or Nebraska, great. You should go to a place where you’ll be happy. For a number of Americans, in the event of a Trump presidency, that place would be Canada.”

How to Throw the Perfect Graduation Celebration

You've worked your butt off for the last four (or more) years, so you deserve to go out with a bang. Even if you aren't sure what your plans are beyond graduation, make sure you have one last hurrah with friends and family. This party should be more special than your regular, run-of-the mill Saturday night bash. These tips and tricks will help make your graduation celebration absolutely perfect.

1. Make a "Congrats" lawn sign

Make sure guests know where they're going by adding these cute signs to your front yard.

2. Set up a tissue paper graduation year sign

How cute is this tissue paper graduation year sign? Use it as table decor or as a photo backdrop.

3. Get your dessert game on

This dessert table is literally fit for a queen. You've got your diploma cookies, your chocolate-covered Oreos, grad "cap"-cakes, cake push-pops and cap-shaped cookies. Also, if your dessert table looks like this, you can totally get away with not serving real food.

4. Collect unforgettable advice

You've not stepped into the real world yet, so why not get some tips from those who are a bit more experienced than you? Whether it's what to bring to your first day of work or a reminder to save some of that cash you're raking in, let your wiser friends and family guide you on your journey!

5. Make cap straw toppers

How cute are these little grad caps? You could even make them in your school colors, or a variety of colors so that people know whose drink is whose.

6. Give out disposable cameras

Put out disposable cameras so that guests can capture the best moments—even the ones you may miss! After the party, get them developed and put the photos in a Facebook album so all your friends can see them.

7. Make sure you have photo booth props

If you're going to have disposable cameras, you have to have photo booth props! These grad caps have cute little sayings and superlatives.

8. Make a "Congrats" tassel sign

How adorable is this sign? Hang it above the mantle or on the dessert table for a bright pop of color.

9. Use lots of confetti

Science says that confetti makes everything better, and that definitely applies to parties! Get special confetti in your school colors or in the shape of something you love to do, like these little confetti gymnasts.

10. Give out Smarties

Since you're a smartie, give Smarties out to all your guests to celebrate. If you're in Canada, these candies are called Rockets, so give out boxes of chocolate Smarties instead.

11. Throw your party with someone else

Since you and your besties are #squadgoals, why not throw your grad party together? You guys probably have the same friend group, so this ensures that everyone can come celebrate together and it helps cut down on costs.

12. Have a cupcake table

Cupcakes are way better than cake—everyone knows that. Cut out poster board in the shape of your grad year or even the initials of your school, and put the cupcakes on the poster board for this adorable display. Yum!

Obama Says Public Schools Should Allow Transgender Students to Use the Right Bathroom

Good news for the transgender community—and really, good news for all of us in the U.S.! Continuing the saga of controversy following the passage of North Carolina’s awful anti-LGBT law, HB2, the Obama administration has released a directive saying that every public school should allow transgender students to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity. Schools that do not follow these instructions “could face lawsuits or a loss of federal aid,” according to The New York Times.

The letter also comes with a 25-page document explaining different methods that already used in many schools, such as letting students change in bathroom stalls, so they don't have to change in the locker room in front of everyone else.

John B. King Jr., the Secretary of Education, stated that, “No student should ever have to go through the experience of feeling unwelcome at school or on a college campus. We must ensure that our young people know that whoever they are or wherever they come from, they have the opportunity to get a great education in an environment free from discrimination, harassment and violence.”

Advocacy groups were also happy with the announcement. "These groundbreaking guidelines not only underscore the Obama administration's position that discriminating against transgender students is flat-out against the law, but they provide public school districts with needed and specific guidance guaranteeing that transgender students should be using facilities consistent with their gender identity," said Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin, according to CNN.

As for President Obama, during a news conference in London back in April he said, “The laws that have been passed there are wrong and should be overturned […] When it comes to respecting the equal rights of all people, regardless of sexual orientation, whether they're transgender or gay or lesbian. And although I respect their [politicians] different viewpoints, I think it’s very important for us not to send signals that anybody is treated differently.”

Hopefully this letter will bring the country a step forward toward long overdue equal rights.
