6 Songs That 'Rise' Needs To Cover Like Right Now

$

There are many things to like about NBC’s Rise—and there are many elements of this show that are infuriating. For me, personally, the most frustrating element of this show is that even though it is about a high school musical, there is very little singing. And the small amount of singing that does occur, only happens when they are in the rehearsal space. While this could be Rise’s way of separating itself from other musical dramas (like Glee and Smash), I feel as though Rise isn’t taking advantage of the talented cast it possesses. Last night’s episode did give us more clips of Spring Awakening songs, but here are six songs that should be covered on Rise ASAP.

1. “Waving Through A Window” from Dear Evan Hansen

This song, from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul’s Tony Award winning musical, taps in to the feelings of loneliness we all experience from time to time. And many characters on Rise are experiencing varying degrees of loneliness: Gordy, Mr. Mazzu, Gwen, Ms. Wolfe, Simon, Simon’s mom—the list goes on. I could see this being performed by the entire cast, with each person being in a different location, dealing with their personal feelings. Now, while this song may sound like a bummer, it has a catchy pop beat that would work well with Rise’s demographic.

2. “Sober Up” by AJR

It is apparent from this title that “Sober Up” touches on themes associated with addiction, but lyrically, this song delves into what happens when you grow up and your relationships with people change. I feel like Gordy would be the obvious choice to sing this song—not because of his issues with addiction, but because of his relationship with his father. This song would be the perfect way for Gordy and Mr. Mazzu to talk it out and reconnect with each other.

3. “Keep Breathing” by Ingrid Michaelson

This song underscores what I believe to be the saddest scene from Grey’s Anatomy and I think it could be well used in Rise. Personally, I believe someone’s heart is going to have to be broken by the end of the season, and my money is on either Gwen or Lilette. I envision one of them singing this song by themselves in the auditorium, only to be interrupted by Mr. Mazzu attempting to give them relationship advice they didn’t ask for.

4. “The Goodbye Song” by Joe Iconis from Smash

If I could go back to the episode of Rise where Simon leaves Stanton High, I would want him and Lilette to sing this, and have the rest of the drama department join in at the end. The lyrics capture the sentiment of Simon knowing that he has to leave but not wanting to, and the song itself is a great example of what contemporary musical theatre can sound like (which fits with the vibe of Spring Awakening). Bonus: This song was written for NBC’s other musical drama, Smash, so having the Rise cast perform it would: a) be super meta and b) make my wildest musical theatre dreams come true!

5. “Child of Mine” by Carole King

It is a tragedy that we are five episodes in and Stephanie J. Block hasn’t been featured on a single song.  In last night’s episode, we saw even more emotional depth from her as she tried to balance doing what’s right for her son while staying in line with her family’s religious beliefs. This touching Carole King song is about a mother wanting what is best for her son. I could totally see Stephanie J. Block singing this to Simon as he sits crying in his bedroom.

6. “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman

I don’t necessarily think a cover of this would make sense in this show, but I have a theory about how this could potentially work. I predict that the principle of Stanton High will once again try to intervene and cancel the musical. Mr. Mazzu, in a fit of passionate rage alongside Ms. Wolfe, leads the cast and crew of the musical through the hallways of Stanton High to confront the principal and demand respect for arts education, while they sing this song. Would it fit the style of the show? Not really, but boy is this something I want to see!

You can find all of these songs on Spotify or iTunes!

Rise airs Tuesdays, at 9pm on NBC.

This Yodeling Walmart Boy Eye Makeup Is the Most Important Thing I've Ever Seen

It's no surprise that the little Yodeling Boy from Walmart has stolen our hearts, but at least for one makeup artist in Jackson, Alabama, he's coming for her eyelid too. Meet Instagram makeup addict @drownthecityy, who's gained an impressive following with her insanely creative eye looks inspired by pop culture.

A post shared by @drownthecityy on

In keeping with her theme, the MUA posted a step-by-step breakdown of her latest look: a full portrait of the Yodeling Boy in all of his cowboy glory. To achieve the perfect Insta-ready brow, she used Anastasia Beverly Hill's Dipbrow pomade in Blonde, then used a combination of face paints, Morphe eyeshadows, and Kat Von D tattoo eyeliner to outline and color her creation. Lastly, she used Benefit's Roller Lash mascara for a final touch of glam. You've gotta marvel at the skill this took!

With the steam this kid keeps getting, I won't be surprised if Yodeling Boy drops an eyeshadow collab with a major makeup brand before he releases his first album.

Janelle Monáe Wore Vagina Pants In Her New Music Video & I'd Like 10 Pairs, Please

Yesterday, Janelle Monáe dropped a female-directed, girl gang-centric music video for her feminist bop, “Pynk” – and this video is full of looks. From Janelle’s hot pink eyeliner to her structured dress with pink fur sleeves, the major style details are a serious statement.  She also wore vagina pants in the video, in case you didn't get the message about ~celebrating women~.

And yes, she birthed Tessa Thompson out of those pants too.

Aside from the vagina pants, the video also features underwear embroidered with powerful statements that Monáe and her clique wear.

With panties reading “Sex Cells,” “Great Cosmic Mother,” and “I Grab Back,” the video’s stylists were straight on with a set of clothing items that are timely for the modern feminist. These outfits, like all of the imagery in the video, back up Monáe’s messaging. Though no longer in the description of the video, Vox reports that the music video was originally accompanied by the following caption: “‘Pynk’ is a brash celebration of creation. self love. sexuality. and pussy power! PYNK is the color that unites us all, for pink is the color found in the deepest and darkest nooks and crannies of humans everywhere…”

It’s also worth noting that, even though vaginas played a starring role on screen during the music video, Monáe intends for the song to be inclusive to women without those parts, too.

“Pynk” is the third music video and song released from Monáe’s upcoming album, “Dirty Computer,” which will be released in full on April 27, and needless to say, we can't wait for the rest.

Everything You Need To Know About That Khloe Kardashian & Tristan Thompson Cheating Scandal

Word has been going around that Tristan Thompson was caught cheating on pregnant Khloe Kardashian over the weekend. After a year and a half together, it seems 26-year-old Thompson's true colors are starting to show.

On Saturday, April 7th, at a rooftop bar in New York City, Thompson was reportedly spotted with Lani Blair, a 28-year-old Instagram model. They were also seen bouncing between bars and hotel rooms together. Since the rumors began spreading, Blair has made her Instagram account private. A source tells Entertainment Tonight, “Khloe is completely devastated. Tristan is a man Khloe built a life with and saw as her forever. Khloe’s mother, Kris, flew to Cleveland to be with her and support her in whatever she needs."

In October 2017, back when Khole was only three months pregnant, Thompson was also seen kissing and touching three other women at a Washington D.C. bar. An insider video was shared on Daily Mail. For some, these cheating allegations don't come as a shock—like one source who told People that Thompson is a "serial cheater."

Luckily, this heartbroken soon-to-be mama has received unanimous support from her family, friends and even a previous foe. The Kardashian family already has immediate plans to visit Khloe in Cleveland for love and guidance during this hardship. Momma Kris Jenner and sister Kim Kardashian West have reportedly already made their way to be with Khloe. “Kris is in Cleveland now giving Khloé as much support as possible and Kim is also heading there as well,” a source close to the family told People. “They’re trying to keep her emotionally stable. The whole family is beyond pissed at Tristan. The goal is to get Khloé out of there as fast as they can without jeopardizing the safety of the baby after she’s arrived. Khloé just wants to be home.”

Khloe's former Twitter rival, Amber Rose, also sent love to the mom-to-be, writing on her Instagram Stories, "I know we've had our differences in the past but my heart is broken for you sis. Smh no one deserves to feel that pain especially during such a sensitive time. God bless you and your baby."

We're all here for you, Khloe—with or without Tristan. We support you during this life-altering moment.

Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi Says The 'Jersey Shore' Cast Was Paid $200 In Gift Cards The First Season & It's Shocking

It's definitely a surprise to hear how insanely little much money the cast of Jersey Shore made during their first season.

In a candid interview with InStyle, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi revealed she and the rest of the cast would get paid $200 in gift cards. "We would get $200 a week from the Shore Store," she said. "I had never gotten that much in a week, like, every single week, because you usually get paid every two weeks. That was crazy for me."

Since then, Polizzi has come a long way in terms of money—she’s also gotten better about managing it.

via GIPHY

“My main goal is to always try and save, and I invest in properties,” she told InStyle. “Me and my husband have a lot of shore houses that we buy, make amazing, and rent out. We’re trying to build on that to have a lot of income.”

Snooki even stated that she only owns two credit cards, her main being United, to collect miles, and her Etsy credit card. She also said she does her own taxes, along with husband Jionni LaValle. While the cash appears to be rolling in, it doesn’t mean she’ll ever stop working.

"I have a retirement account. As far as when I’m going to stop working, I never want to stop, because I love what I do,” the reality star shared. “I love reality. I love having my own brand and my own business. I like keeping busy. If I’m not doing anything, I feel like I’m wasting my time. I definitely don’t want to stop, ever. I’ll work until I stop breathing.”

Though she's now married with two kids, the party will seemingly continue: MTV recently brought back the OG cast members for Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, which airs Thursdays at 8/7c.

TJ Miller Was Arrested For Allegedly Calling In A Fake Bomb Threat, According To Connecticut DAs

TJ Miller, the former star of Silicon Valley and an actor in The Emoji Movie and Deadpool franchise, was arrested for allegedly calling in a fake bomb report to a 911 dispatcher in New Jersey, according to the Connecticut District attorney's website. Miller is reportedly facing a federal charge and could serve up to five years in jail.

Per the release, Miller allegedly called the dispatcher on March 18 claiming that a woman with brown hair and a scarf "[had] a bomb in her bag" on an Amtrack Train traveling from Washington, D.C., to Penn Station in New York City.

"By the time Amtrak investigators received notice of the call and were mobilized to stop and search the train, the train was in Connecticut," the release stated. "Amtrak officials stopped Train 2256 at Green’s Farms Station in Westport, where passengers were directed to detrain, and bomb squad members boarded and searched the train.  No evidence of any explosive device or materials was detected."

When an investigator called Miller to describe the woman again and release a statement, he gave an entirely different description of the woman.

Officers reportedly "detected slurring in Miller's voice and asked if he had consumed alcohol that day" and he said he'd had one glass of wine. They also asked if he had any kind of mental illness and he reportedly said “no, absolutely not. This is the first time I’ve ever made a call like this before. I am worried for everyone on that train. Someone has to check that lady out.”

After the train was searched, authorities spoke with the first class attendant about any suspicious behavior. She told them that it was clear Miller was intoxicated and had been in a verbal altercation with the woman in question.

U.S. Attorney John H. Durham of Connecticut said in a statement that the complaint is only a charge of the allegations laid out against Miller and "not evidence of guilt."

These allegations aren't the first brush with the law Miller's encountered, coming after sexual and physical assault allegations against Miller from his time in college also surfaced earlier this year.

5 Signs You’d Thrive in a Big City After Graduation

Everyone loves to imagine their life just like Carrie Bradshaw’s in Sex and the City, a life filled with shoes, friends and endless adventures in a big city. And who doesn't fantasize about living in a giant apartment à la Monica and Rachel in Friends?

But is that what the living in the city is really like? How do you know if a big city is the right place for you? The only way to really know is to take a risk and try it out for yourself. But if you’re not sure you’re ready to take the plunge, we’ve thought of some ways to know if the city might be the right place for you.

1. You can take care of things on your own (no parents needed)

Living on your own is a big change. You’ll be supporting yourself and facing countless new challenges and responsibilities. From paying your rent on time to being able to advocate for yourself when your landlord won’t fix your broken sink, you have to be ready to take care of things on your own.

If you feel responsible enough handle all the challenges that come with living in a city, feel mature enough to be able to budget your money, and can take care of yourself in such a fast-paced and daunting environment, then New York City or LA might just be a good fit.

2. You love meeting new people

The crowd of the city can be a downside for some people, but for others it’s an exciting part of every day. Using public transit to get around opens you up to opportunities for seeing tons of new faces from all walks of life, from people who live in the city to those just passing through.

“It’s fun to be able to interact with random people, or even people you meet on the street that you’ll [maybe] never get to see again” says Joie Steinbauer, a 2017 graduate of Emmanuel College.

If you’re personable and love to meet new people, you’ll thrive in the city environment.

3. Trying new things appeals to you

Cities have countless new things to see and do, from new restaurants and coffee shops to museum exhibitions and Broadway shows. If you love the constant excitement of new experiences, then you may just be perfect for city life.

“I’ve loved going to Broadway shows since I was really little, and having the accessibility to anything from concerts to street performers is such a benefit of living in the city. There’s always something to look at and go see,” says Zoe Kulina, a 2014 graduate of Pace University who now lives in Brooklyn.

Although city life is not always fun and games (i.e. the major responsibilities that come with it), a lot of it can be.

4. You want to be around constant new opportunities

If you want to have endless possibilities for jobs, internships, and overall amazing experiences, then the city is the right place for you. Whether you have your heart set on a career path or you have no idea what you want to do, the city is a full of opportunities to help you figure it out.

“As I got older I really became interested in working in fashion. It was kind of my big motivator to move. I thought ‘if you’re going to work in fashion, you have to be in New York City,’” says Zoe.

The difference between a small town and a city is the potential for so many different career paths. “There’s so many more opportunities for work in Boston than I would have if I had moved back to New Hampshire,” says Joie.

5. You've adjusted well to college life

Living in the city can be roughly equated to living in a college dorm. You have very little space, you have to share that space with another person (or many other people), and you’re constantly surrounded by noise and activity.

“Going from living in a big house in New Hampshire to a small 500 square foot apartment was a big adjustment. You have to learn to live with it and let go of some luxuries that you’re used to having,” says Joie.

If you adjusted well to living in your college dorm (and you maybe even liked it), after graduation you’ll be able to easily adjust to apartment life.

But really, there’s no foolproof way to know for sure if you’d thrive in a big city unless you try it out. “A person that’s made for the city doesn’t exist,” says Zoe, “you just have to come here and figure it out for yourself.”

Moving to the city can be one of the biggest learning and growing experiences you can have after graduation, but you have to know in your heart that it’s the right choice and the right time for you.

In the end it may just end up being the best decision you ever make.

Disney Now Has a 'Dole Whip Donut'& I'm So Excited I Can Barely Handle It

Dole Whip is the iconic Disney treat. Created in 1986, the dairy-free, pineapple flavored soft-serve has been the epitome of tropical treat perfection. And let’s be honest, it’s the only reason that people flock to Disneyland’s Enchanted Tiki Room or Aloha Isle located in Walt Disney World’s Adventureland. But now, Disney has made all of our pineapple dreams by creating the “Dole Whip Donut!”

According to People.com, you can get this new, tropical treat for a limited time at the Coffee Cart on Main Street in Disneyland.

The donut is pineapple-y in flavor and has a pineapple jam-like filling with tiny chunks of pineapple, HelloGiggles reports. And if that isn’t good enough, the whole thing is topped with toasted meringue. Yum!

Although a representative from Disney told PEOPLE that it’s not officially called the “Dole Whip Donut,” there’s no denying that it’s literally a Dole Whip in a donut form. Disney Food Blog came up with the name for the donut, and honestly, we’re sticking with it.

However, the sad news is that this $6.99 treat (a small price to pay for pineapple perfection) is only here until April 20th, according to PEOPLE. And a representative from Disney said that there are limited batches of the donuts each day. Once the Coffee Cart on Main Street sells out, there are no more “Dole Whip Donuts” until a new batch is made the next day.

So if you want one of these beauties, you better act fast.

I don’t know about you, but I’m already planning my trip to Anaheim so I can sink my teeth into one of these delicious donuts, all while having a Dole Whip on the side.

4 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Get Your Crush’s Friends Involved

$
0
0

Telling someone you’re into them is possibly one of the most awkward things to do, especially if you’re questioning whether they like you back. To avoid some of this awkwardness, we naturally turn toward our friends and our crush’s friends to see if they know. But involving your crush’s friends can be dangerous. If you’re in this position right now and aren’t sure if you should get your crush’s friends involved, here are a few reasons why you really shouldn’t.

1. It can make things weird for everybody

Bringing your crush’s friends in might sound like a good idea, but trust us, it’s probably not. It can just make things weird for everybody, especially if  you two share a friend group. Take it from Chelsea* who had a bad experience with this after connecting one of her friends from high school, Kaitlyn*, with her college best friend, Michael*. “I really wish I hadn't, because their relationship has been bad for my friendship with both of them,” she says. “I think relationships should happen more naturally. If someone isn't in your group, don't add them in just to set them up with someone. Let things happen as they happen. SOs don't need to be integrated into the friend group.” Chelsea’s right. Sometimes getting your and/or your crush’s friends involved can just make things that much more complicated for not just you and your crush, but for your friends, too.

2. It can cause a rift between you and your crush

Sometimes going around your crush to their friends can come off as sketchy. Think about it like this: if your crush was talking to your friends about you, and you didn’t entirely know what they talked about, how would you feel? Of course, if you have good friends, they’ll tell you what’s up, but it would still seem kind of weird, like why didn’t they come to me? It’s possible that going to your crush’s friends could make them feel that way. “I made the mistake of getting my boyfriend's friend involved, and it lead to my boyfriend asking for a break because it only made things worse,” Megan Mann, a graduate from Purdue University, says. “I was worried about something, said something to his friend and then it got muddled and the next thing I knew, it was break time. It makes things REALLY convoluted and shouldn't be a thing.” Listen to Megan and just be straightforward with your crush; let them know what you’re thinking and feeling. It might be kind of uncomfortable, but it will be what’s best for both of you at the end of the day.

3. It can feel unnatural

One of the quickest ways to kill a forming relationship is to force it. Even if it’s awkward not knowing where your crush stands, it’s definitely better to let things play out than to make things play out. “You want a relationship, or budding relationship, to form naturally,” Chloe Powers, a senior at Johnson & Wales University, says. “Getting your crush’s friends involved seems like the relationship is being forced to start. I’d want my relationship to start because he and I want it to, not because he’s being pressured by his friends!” Chloe has a point. Even if your crush doesn’t feel the same way about you as you do about them, it’s okay. Going to your crush’s friends just makes this even more awkward if your crush truly isn’t ready for a relationship. It’s like they say, all things with time. This would be one of those things.

4. It can mean they will tell your crush about your feelings

Not to be a downer, but here’s the tea: if you get your crush’s friends involved, they are ultimately going to be on their side more than yours. Telling your crush’s friends how you feel and trying to get them involved could result in them telling your crush about your feelings in a time or way you don’t like. By involving their friends, you give them the opportunity to control your situation. Sometimes this can end well, but generally it seems like it can only be bad news, especially because it might make your crush wonder why you didn’t just go to him or her in the first place. Your confidence to go to them directly and honesty to tell them how you genuinely feel will say a lot about you to the person you’re crushing on.

We know it can be tempting to want to go to your crush’s friends to get the inside scoop on how they feel, have them connect you or just gain some advice for how to talk to your crush, but don’t do it! It will be best for you and everyone else if you just go talk to your crush about everything. No matter how the conversation goes, you’re going to be okay. It’s better to air out your feelings than to avoid telling the one person to whom these feelings will matter the most. Normally we wouldn’t consult Shrek for advice, but his better-out-than-in theory is really the best way to deal here. Just don’t psych yourself out. You got this. Now go get ‘em!

Senators Have Introduced a Bipartisan Bill That Would Protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller From Being Fired

A bipartisan group of senators has introduced a bill on Wednesday that could bar President Trump from firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller as Mueller continues to investigate the Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, CNN reports.

Since Trump has left open the possibility of firing Muller after his personal attorney, Michael Cohen, was raided by the FBI at his home, office and hotel, there has been an effort on Capitol Hill to protect Muller from being fired.

Senators Lindsey Graham and Cory Booker partnered up with their bill with Senators Thom Tillis and Chris Coons to combine the bills that the had introduced separately last August to protect Mueller.

The new bill, called the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act, would ensure that only a senior member from the Justice Department would be able to fire special counsel, with the reasoning for the dismissal put in writing, NBC News reports. The bill would also give special counsel 10 days to seek a judicial review to ensure that the termination “was for good cause.” According to CNN, if “good cause” is not determined, the termination would not take effect. The bipartisan bill would aim to have all documents and staff working on the investigation preserved in the event that special counsel were to be dismissed, NBC News reports.

A spokesperson for Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley has said that Grassley wants to place the bill on Thursday’s agenda for a 10 a.m. committee markup, NBC News reports. If every senator on the committee — which is currently comprised of 11 Republicans and 10 Democrats — the bill could be brought up tomorrow, but that most likely won’t happen and the bill will be delayed for another week.

Despite that, though, the bill’s chances of reaching a floor vote as pretty slim. Even if it did gain the support to each the Senate floor, it most likely would not get the 60 votes it needs, with Republicans only having 51 members and the Democrats have 49. But as of right now, GOP leaders have been rather skeptical of the bill.

“The biggest question I have is if it did pass, would the President sign it? I think it's unlikely he would and, as I've said, I don't think it's necessary,” the Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn said Wednesday.

"I have a lot of faith in Mueller and I've shared with the President that I think it'd be a tremendous mistake on his part to fire him," Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker told CNN, adding that if the president decided to dismiss special counsel, it “would end his presidency as he knows it.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reiterated on Tuesday that he had not “seen clear indication yet that [Congress has] to pass something to keep [Mueller] from being removed, because [he doesn’t] think that's going to happen.”

During his press conference on Wednesday following his announcement that he will not be seeking re-election, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan expressed his support for Mueller and said that he did not think that Trump would dismiss special counsel, particularly since he has been “talking to people in the White House about it,” NBC News reports.

Currently, under Justice Department regulations, special counsel can only be dismissed by the Attorney General. However, since Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation, that authority now rests with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who is overseeing the investigation.

On Tuesday, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said that the president believes he has the authority to fire special counsel. Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday, saying that “Mueller is most conflicted of all.”

But there isn’t a clear answer as to whether the president actually has the power to dismiss special counsel.

The president does, constitutionally speaking, have the authority to fire members of the executive branch. Following this argument, this constitutional power could potentially override any sort of regulation.

According to CNN, GOP members have been expressing constitutional concerns over the bill, including Senator John Kennedy who plans to vote against it in committee.

How to Eat & Drink Your Way to Flawless Skin

$

Have you ever just looked at someone with perfect skin and wondered how she did it? “Maybe she masks every day.” “Maybe she was just born with beautiful, glowing skin.” Or maybe she just follows a kick-ass regimen that helps her follow the right steps to properly take care of her skin. If you find yourself questioning how you can make your skin ~glow~, let us help you out by providing you with a few tips on what you should be eating and drinking to rejuvenate your skin.

1. Water

So this one is a no-brainer. Those diagrams that encourage us to drink more water by showing us all of its beautiful benefits really don’t lie. Water hydrates your pores and eliminates the chances of acne bumps and blackheads forming in your pores. Not to mention that a simple glass of water can also hydrate your skin, which makes your complexion look a lot clearer in the long run. The eight-glass-a-day rule about water may sound a bit ridiculous and over the top, but there really are benefits to it.

2. Leafy greens

Didn’t your parents ever tell you to eat your vegetables? Greens such as spinach and kale are the perfect veggies to throw into green smoothies to nourish and detoxify your skin. If eating a salad is totally boring to you or if it’s just not your thing, throw everything in a blender with an apple or a banana to add some sweetness to the overall taste. According to Tracy from Incredible Smoothies, drinking green smoothies helps to clear up your skin.

"Smoothies are high in fiber and allow your skin to eliminate toxins the right way instead of through your skin," she writes.

Regularly drinking green smoothies will leave your skin with a healthy glow that you’ll definitely be proud of.

3. Oranges

Yes, oranges are a great source of vitamin C and that vitamin C can ultimately help your skin fight wrinkles and fend off skin diseases. Just make sure that you don’t run off and chug a glass of orange juice that has been processed and pumped full of sugar. A fresh orange can help your skin stimulate collagen, preventing dry skin.

4. Caffeine

We bet you were surprised to see this one here. Caffeine also helps to plump up and hydrate the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Surprisingly enough, caffeine is sometimes used in anti-aging products because of the way that it fights off free radicals that cause wrinkles. You may automatically assume that this gives you the freedom to drink two cups of coffee a day, but remember that caffeinated beverages are not only limited to coffee. You can also drink green tea, which provides the skin with antioxidants and helps prevent aging.

5. Berries

Not only are berries delicious, but it's also been proven that they're great for your skin. Blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries are like powerhouses when it comes to antioxidants that help fight off free radicals. On top of being a great way to satisfy cravings, they're also packed with vitamins that will help clear and brighten up damaged skin

Believe us when we say that achieving flawless skin is not as impossible as it may seem. Remember to pay close attention to your diet if you’re looking for better ways to glow-up.

Secretary of Defense James Mattis announced this landmark move from President Trump. According to ABC News, Marine Corps Col. Lorna M. Mahlock would be the first African-American female to serve as Brigadier General if she is confirmed.

Currently, Mahlock is the Deputy Director of Operations, Plans, Policies and Operations Directorate at the Marine Corps’ headquarters in Washington D.C.

But this is a historic move. The Marine Corps has the fewest female service members of any branch, with women only making up eight percent of the Marine Corps.

Just last year, according to ABC News, the Marine Corps welcomed its first female infantry officer, and she was the first female to complete training for a military occupational specialty.

Congratulations to Mahlock on this historic nomination!

President Trump Tells Russia to “Get Ready” for U.S. Airstrike on Syria

After a Russian diplomat said that Russia would shoot down any American missiles that were fired at Syria, along with their launch sites, President Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday to warn Russia to “get ready,” NBC News reports.

“Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia,  because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!” Trump wrote.

Following the chemical attack that took place in Syria on Saturday, Russia had warned the United States that military assets would be targeted if an attack was launched against Syria.

“If there is a strike by the Americans, then we refer to the statements of President [Vladimir] Putin and the chief of staff that the missiles will be downed and even the sources from which the missiles were fired,” Alexander Zasypkin, Russian ambassador to Lebanon, told Hezbollah's al-Manar TV.

Maria Zakharova, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, responded to Trump’s Twitter post, writing, “Smart missiles should be aimed at terrorists, not at the legitimate [Syrian] government that is fighting international terrorism on its territory.”

Zakharova also asked whether the U.S. was trying to sabotage the investigation on the suspected chemical attack. “Is that the actual plan — to cover up all evidence of this fabricated attack with smart missile strikes, so that international inspectors have no evidence to look for?” she asked.

Trump recently told reporters that all options were on the table in regards to the response to the Syrian chemical attack. White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders reiterated the president’s remark on Wednesday. She defended Trump’s comments, saying that his tweets did not actually share explicit military actions. Sanders added that the president is withholding any sort of timeline on military action, and that his options are still open, with missiles being one of those options, NBC News reports.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told reporters on Wednesday, “We are still assessing the intelligence — ourselves and our allies. We’re still working on this.”

CA Gov. Jerry Brown Says That He’ll Comply With the National Guard Order, With a Condition

California Governor Jerry Brown said that he will comply with President Trump’s National Guard order, saying he would accept federal funds to add hundreds of new members to the National Guard to support California’s “ongoing program to combat transnational crime,” The Huffington Post reports. However, he emphasized that these troops would not enforce any federal immigration policies.

Brown’s announcement comes after Trump ordered the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security to work with governors to deploy National Guard troops to the southern border to assist with border patrol.

Brown, in a letter to Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, wrote that he would accept funding to increase the state guard by 400 troops, and only some of those troops would be sent to the southern border, with other troops being sent to the coast and other parts of the state, HuffPost reports.

“Let’s be crystal clear on the scope of this mission,” Brown wrote. “This will not be a mission to build a new wall. It will not be a mission to round up women and children or detain people escaping violence and seeking a better life. And the California National Guard will not be enforcing federal immigration laws.”

The California governor did not indicate how many national guard troops would be sent to the border, but his spokesperson told HuffPost, “The location of Guard personnel – and number specifically working in support of operations along the border, the coast and elsewhere in the state – will be dictated by the needs on the ground.”

There has been growing tensions between California and the Trump administration, however. Brown pointed out in his letter that the number of undocumented immigrants apprehended by border patrol is already the lowest that it has been in decades.

“Here are the facts: there is no massive wave of migrants pouring into California,” Brown wrote.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth Addressed The Hardest Parts Of Being A Trailblazer & Wishes She Didn't Always Have To Be 'The First'

Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth has claimed yet another “first,” but this time she’s pointing out the trouble of being a trendsetter in 2018.

Duckworth has led a life dedicated to serving America both in the military and government. In 2012, she was the first Asian-American woman in Illinois elected to Congress; however, the firsts only start there. She’s also the first Thailand-born member and the only disabled woman ever elected to Congress. Her disability is a result of injury during her 2004 Iraq deployment. After serving in the United States Reserve Forces, Duckworth’s move to Iraq was met with tragedy: the amputation of both her legs and the near loss of her arm.

Before her election, Duckworth served in the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and was the Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. Her 2012 victory set the path for two future terms in the House of Representatives before running for Senate in 2016 and defeating Mark Kirk, the Republican incumbent.

Now Duckworth has another first to her name: She’s the first woman to give birth while in the Senate. Yet this accomplishment, among her others, brings her attention to the representative issues in Congress.

“I have won historic elections, but it feels like these ‘firsts’ are so overdue,” Duckworth said toElle in a recent interview. “I never set out to be the first in anything, and with a lot of these ‘firsts,’ it really makes me wonder how it’s taken so long. It also underscores how much farther we have to go to have representation in our government.”

Duckworth is one of only ten women to give birth while working in Congress.

Perhaps this is due to the lack of women actually serving in the House and Senate: Women make up just under a fifth of Congress while they occupy half of the population. About a quarter of state legislators are women, but only six of 50 state governor positions belong to them.

And while the arrival of her new baby might be a “first” for Congress, Duckworth noted that parenthood is an issue that affects numerous Americans, not just those who give birth.

“Parenthood isn't just a women's issue, it's an economic issue and one that affects all parents—men and women alike,” she said in an official statement. “As tough as juggling the demands of motherhood and being a Senator can be, I'm hardly alone or unique as a working parent, and my children only make me more committed to doing my job and standing up for hardworking families everywhere.”

This Student Was Excited That Her Textbook Belonged To Blake Shelton While Her Mom Side-Eyed How Old It Was

A seven-year-old Latta Elementary School student got a sweet surprise when she opened her textbook to discover that “The Voice” coach, Blake Shelton was once a previous owner.

Marley, a first grader at the Ada, Oklahoma school was quick to show off of her new book to her family, but her mother and former educator, Shelly Bryan Parker, was a little disheartened by what she saw.

She posted the following image to Facebook with the caption, "Marley is EXCITED that her 'new' reader belonged to Blake Shelton, but I am EMBARRASSED!!!! I'm 40 and these people are my age!!"

“Look Away (Keys to Reading)” by Louise Matteoni is very educational and still in good shape,” Bryan Parker, told CNN, ”My daughter's teacher is an amazing educator, and I'm certain that if she had a way to obtain books that are not 40 years old, she would."

The photo went viral in the state of Oklahoma and likely so due to the nature of the current public education system. According to CNN, “Hundreds of teachers in Oklahoma on Thursday packed the state Capitol on the fifth consecutive day of a walkout to protest for more funding.” The lack of facility maintenance and outdated textbooks and equipment were a large reason for the protest.

Parker says, "I just want the state to come to a resolution that will fully support teachers and their classrooms. As a former educator, this is very important to me. But as a parent, this is crucial as I want the best education for my daughter.”

Oklahoma is not the only state that is feeling the heat from their educators for the lack of funding and support, and hopefully Bryan Parker’s viral photo can shed a real light on the issue.

Zayn Malik Just Released A New Song & It's Giving Me Major Summer Vibes

The last time we heard the name of Zayn Malik he was consciously separating from Gigi Hadid and breaking all of our hearts.

But we no longer have to think of heartbreak when we hear his name (unless we stan One Direction, then some wounds just don’t heal) and can now go back to associating Zayn with sultry summer jams we so deserve.

On Thursday morning, this hottie went and released the second single from his new album, along with the accompanying music video. The song, called “Let Me,” is an R&B bop.

With the combination of 80s-inspired synth in the verses and the snapping club beat during the bridge that is quintessentially 2018, I can already sense a contender for Song of the Summer. It feels like I'm sitting poolside sipping a frozen drink, or walking into a mall and getting blasted by air conditioning.

Zayn’s first album, Mind of Mine, was released in 2016. His first single from his forthcoming album, “Dusk Till Dawn” featuring Sia, was released last year. Zayn has been teasing the release of “Let Me” for a few weeks on Twitter, and fans have already been taken away by the sexy, action-packed, cinematic music video (which includes a female lead who’s a dead ringer for Gigi).

I, on the other hand, am living for the visuals in the lyrics. How many Instagram captions do you think are going to say “duvet days and vanilla ice cream” in the next few months?

I’m excited to see what other tunes are going to come from the new Zayn album, but in the meantime I’m gonna continually loop “Let Me” until it truly feels like summer.

Halsey Had The Best Response To Being Trolled Over Her Armpit Hair

Ugh. It’s 2018. I thought we were done policing women’s bodies hair and acting like body hair isn't normal?

Body positive queen Halsey posted a lovely series of selfies on Twitter recently, gorgeously modeling a Fiorucci sports bra, and some jerk tried to call her out for having armpit hair, placing an “LOL” sticker over the area.

Halsey was clearly not having it, but responded in the most nonchalant, badass way.

Imagine being so completely un-self-aware that you try to make Halsey feel bad about her body. Halsey, whose hair has been every color of the rainbow. Halsey, who has spoken openly about her struggle with endometriosis. Halsey, who has previously called out Twitter users for using harmful labels on women and what they choose to do with their own bodies.

Besides, the other day Halsey and fellow pop queen Charli XCX were just having an inspired conversation about leg hair. Do you really think she would be hurt by you mentioning her underarm stubble? Please.

In all seriousness, it’s fantastic that so many ladies in the public eye are speaking out about their body hair, which can be a serious insecurity for many of us. Did you know that women only started shaving their legs and underarms because razor companies weren’t making enough money, so they started marketing razors to women and created a beauty standard literally out of thin air? Women didn’t start shaving at all until the early 1900s, which is pretty recent for something that seems like such a taboo.

Thanks, Halsey, for inspiring all of us to disregard the trolls and look however we want. Keep slaying!

Prince William may have let slip that he and Kate Middleton are welcoming a little prince any day now.

Sources report that the Duke of Cambridge was celebrating his soccer team's winning championship on Tuesday night. William got so caught up in the excitement, he appears to have accidentally revealed that he and the Duchess are expecting a little boy.

According the the Mirror, after Aston Villa player Jack Grealish scored the team's winning goal against the rival Cardiff City team, Prince William said, "I'm going to insist the baby is called Jack." After a pause, he added "...or Jackie." Whoops!

Following the match, Grealish presented William with his game-winning shirt, perhaps a gift for William's impending arrival.

William and Kate are due to welcome their third child this month, and as of April 9th preparations were already being made at the hospital where Kate is due to give birth. Palace officials have not revealed the exact due date, only confirming that it is in April, but it has been reported that Kate's due date is April 23.

U.K. bookmakers are already placing bets on the name of the new royal baby. For a boy, the top contenders are Albert and Arthur, tied at 12-1. The name Philip, after William's grandfather, is also in the running at 16-1. For a girl, the top choices are Alice and Mary, tied at 5-1.

Whether or not the baby ends up being a boy, I can't wait for the royal announcement in the upcoming weeks!

4 Ways to Get Paid During Grad School

Grad school is when you hone in your skills and truly pinpoint your career goals. It doesn’t, however, have to be a debilitating period of money-sucking horror.

If you’re feeling the monetary burden of your graduate education, have no fear. Here are a few ideas for getting a job that will not only supplement your education, but may boost your resume along the way.

1. Become a writing tutor

Most universities seek out writing tutors who can help both undergraduate and graduate students navigate their essays with ease.

In some cases, this job will give you the flexibility to set your own schedule, which is ideal when you’re juggling increased responsibilities compared to your undergrad years.

Sydney Post, a former grad student at Emerson College, found the role of writing tutor to be the best fit for her, continuing a similar job she had in undergrad. She says, “I wasn’t interested in taking a role quite as involved as TA’ing, but I still liked working with students in a one-on-one environment. The job also definitely gave me a better sense of the college—which can be hard when you’re a grad student who lives off campus.”

The process to become a writing tutor varies from school to school, so check with your college's writing center to learn about the requirements necessary for the role.

2. Become a TA

One of the more popular job options for grad students is becoming a teacher’s assistant in the area of your choice. Whether or not you’re looking into teaching post-college, this is a great opportunity to learn from a professor and delve into a subject.

Additionally, you’ll be able to gain valuable experience in a leadership role, overseeing students’ papers and tests and even leading discussion sections for a lecture class. There is no question that this type of job will appear strong on a resume and act as a great talking point in an interview.

Medical student Diana Liu, who previously taught high school English, became a TA because she missed teaching. She says, "Some benefits of being a TA include reinforcing recently acquired knowledge and working with a fantastic group of people who are as passionate about the learning process as the subject matter."

3. Conduct research for a professor

Research opportunities can sometimes be hard to find, but are available if you seek them out.

Talk to a favorite former professor or a different professor in your department to see if you can assist them on a project of theirs; oftentimes, they will have paid opportunities that might be time consuming, but are worthwhile in acting as an additional educational resource and enhancing your grad school experience. These types of positions are also listed on your college's on-campus jobs website.

4. Apply for a co-op or apprenticeship

While pursuing a graduate degree, it's important to gain some real world experience in that field to set yourself up for full-time employment by graduation. Co-ops and apprenticeships are a great opportunity to bring your newfound knowledge from the classroom into the office.

Depending on the school, co-ops and apprenticeships differ from internships in the sense that they often demand more of your time and may replace either a course or an entire semester's worth of classes. The types of experiences for pay will vary, ranging from full-time employment for a corporation to assisting a professor with an intensive research project.

In grad school, it might seem as though you have no time for anything besides schoolwork. However, if job seeking is a priority, there are opportunities at every school to broaden your skill set and build upon what you learn in the classroom.

YOU GUYS. It happened! She's finally here!

TMZ reports Khloe Kardashian gave birth to a healthy baby girl at around 4 a.m. EST Thursday morning, with sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Kim Kardashian West, mother Kris Jenner, and best friend Malika Haqq by her side. Few details have emerged beyond that, so fans will have to eagerly await the formal announcement from the Kardashian Kamp, as well as the name of the baby, which everyone is simply dying to know.

Khloe is the third member of her family to welcome a new bundle of joy in 2018. First, Kim and Kanye West had a daughter named Chicago via surrogate, and then Kylie finally revealed that not only was she pregnant—but that she had welcomed a daughter, named Stormi, with boyfriend Travis Scott in early February.

However, the birth of her first child must be bittersweet for our dear Khloe. While preparing for the final days of her pregnancy, videos surfaced of her boyfriend and father of her baby, Tristan Thompson, cheating on her not once, but twice, since she became pregnant last year. He was first spotted at a hookah lounge in D.C. in October and again just last week in New York City.

Though the status of their relationship is unknown, Tristan was reportedly present at the birth of his second child.

Congratulations, Khloe! We can't wait to see what the little lady looks like and hear what you decided to name her.
