McDonald's is definitely one of the most popular fast-food restaurants that has been around from when we were so excited as kids to get a toy in our Happy Meal to when we transitioned to adults and dared to try the Big Mac. And, just when we thought we had become a professional taste tester for almost everything on their menu, it turns out that there is a lot more Ronald McDonald was not telling us.
According to Glamour, there is a whole menu of secret items that include a “Two Cheeseburger Meal”, a “McGangBang” (a McChicken sandwiched in-between a McDouble), a “McKinley Mac” (quarter pound-sized Big Macs), a “Pie McFlurry” (an apple pie blended into a McFlurry). After being "alleged" by BuzzFeed in 2013, this secret menu was finally confirmed by an anonymous McDonald’s manager on Reddit, who allowed users to question him about anything Mickey D’s-related, on their AMA (ask-me-anything) forum.
“The items on the 'secret menu' weren't invented by anyone officially at McDonald's, it's just a random person's guide to burgers you could potentially 'hack' at McDonald's,” says the manager on Reddit. Furthermore, customers may order from the secret menu, choosing to remove or add any item of their preference, as one would with any regular McDonald’s item called a grill order. “Order one and the workers might not know it by name (i.e. Land, Air and Sea burger or the McGangBang) but if you explain what it is, and are willing to pay for all the ingredients, it's just another 'grill order' that we can make up.”
Glamour also reports that food chains have secret menus, some not as hidden and some not known to the public. Burger chain In N Out Burger has their “Not-So-Secret Menu” displayed right on their website that even includes Protein® Style, where burgers are wrapped in lettuce, instead of a bun. Chipotle, in addition to being a served at this year’s Her Conference, has a hidden menu item called the Burritodilla, a Chipotle cheese burrito grilled like a quesadilla.
Another collegiette favorite, Taco Bell has the quite popular Cheesarito, a tortilla filled with melted cheese, sauce and scallions. Finally, a regular for everyone, Starbucks has quite a few secrets: two secret sizes, “small” and “trenta” (larger than a “venti”), codenames for extra espresso shots (red eye = one shot, black eye = two, green eye = three), and Starbucks’ "Liquid Cocaine" made of four espresso shots, four pumps of white chocolate, syrup, milk and ice.
Wow, all this food revealed in so little time.
