For the first time in ten years, a woman will be in charge at USC. An all-female ticket boasting Rini Sampath and Jordan Fowler won the race for student body president, according to an announcement made by USC officials on Tuesday night.

The last time that a woman held the position of undergraduate government president was in 2006. Since then, no females have even run for the position at all. This year, however, both of the tickets were led by women. Rini hopes that her victory will inspire more women to run for the position in the future. She might be in luck—her vice president, Jordan, is only a sophomore—she could definitely run for the presidential position next year when Rini graduates. Rini made the same move from vice president to president herself.

This move is empowering for women at campuses all over the country! Women and men should share equal opportunities and positions, in student government as well as every other aspect of undergraduate education—and beyond.
