Following the birth of her baby girl in February, many were left pondering why Kylie Jenner would name her daughter Stormi. It came as a surprise to nearly all her fans, who had been busy reading into butterfly symbolism, and most bets were on Posie or Monarch. Even after Kylie revealed Stormi’s name on Instagram, there were theories floating around as to why she chose it, all ranging from possible to outright ridiculous.
So where did the name Stormi come from? Well, older sister Kim Kardashian went ahead and got the answers for us.
Kim interviewed Kylie for ES Magazine, and wanted her opinion on everything from new motherhood to plastic surgery. And one of these questions was the one everyone’s been waiting for: “What is the inspiration for Stormi’s name?”
Kylie’s response? Not nearly as symbolic as I’m sure we’d all hoped. “I really don’t know how we thought of Storm,” she told Kim. “Her dad insisted it was him, but I feel like it was me. And that kind of just stuck with us.”
She continued, “And then I didn’t really like just Storm—I didn’t feel like that was her name. So then it became Stormi. And it just stuck.”
Kylie even went so far as to say that Stormi may not be her favorite name. “I feel like there were a lot of other names that I might have even liked better to be honest, but I feel like Stormi picked her own name, like it was just her name,” she said.
Even though her answer doesn’t have anything to do with butterflies or storms or anything like that, I think that’s still beautiful. Plus, sometimes a name is just a name, you guys.
