'Jane the Virgin': What You Need to Know About That Shocking Season 4 Finale & What We Can Expect for Season 5

I thought I was prepared for the season four finale episode of Jane the Virgin, “Chapter Eighty-One,” but still, nothing could have prepared me for that final scene. We were already assuming Rafael was finally going to propose, we'd get to see Jane walk down the aisle and the two would have their happily ever after. But of course, the show always has to tread on my heart and keep me questioning, "WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN?"

Here are 7 things that went down in the shocking season finale:

1. Rafael planned to propose to Jane. After announcing they were moving in together, Rafael asked for Jane's family's blessing to propose (!!!) Despite having a few mishaps which stopped him from popping the question, there may have been a good reason for that later in this episode...

2. Rafael visited Rose. After that meeting, Rafael went from 100 to 0, from wanting to propose to Jane, to avoiding the question, and throughout the rest of the episode, I couldn't help but ask millions of questions. What the heck did Rose say? Did she tell him about his real parents? I. WANT. TO. KNOW.

3. Mateo nearly got lost on the bus. Luckily, Jane ran fast enough to catch up to it and get on with him. Following several attempts to convince Alba to get on the bus instead of visiting a "sick" Jorge so she could take her home for the surprise party she had planned, Jane finally caves in and confesses to Alba that they had planned a party to celebrate Alba's finally becoming a citizen. Of course, in that moment, Jane realizes Mateo has left her side and notices he's sitting on the bus without her and abuela Alba. Thanks to Jane's quick feet and motherly instincts, she was able to catch up to the bus and ultimately, Mateo.

4. We get confirmation that Petra did indeed kill her sister Anezka. JR realizes Petra actually did break her heel and kill her evil sister, and all hell breaks loose. Though I really don't want anything to get between them, this is serious enough to make them both reconsider their relationship.

5. Alba marries Jorge to help him become a U.S. citizen. After confessing his mother's illness during Alba's party, Alba proposes (pun intended) the idea that the two should get married so Jorge can easily travel to and from Mexico, since he is undocumented. Naturally, like any telenovela, Jane marries the two the very same day.

6. JR shoots the REAL blackmailer. Honestly, I was afraid the blackmailer was going to shoot Petra and my heart stopped. The suspense continues further when JR bravely grabs the gun and shoot the blackmailer. The question is, who was the actual blackmailer?

7. MICHAEL. IS. ALIVE. Whaaaaaaaaat.

What to know about Season 5—so far:

1. It could be the show's final season. Gina Rodriguez, who plays Jane, mentioned in a panel in Austin that she would be directing more episodes in the final seasons of Jane the Virgin, according to Deadline. However, creator Jennie Snyder Urman disclosed with The Hollywood Reporter that "[she doesn't] think it's the official confirmation" and that she is "not at liberty to confirm or deny." Guess that means we won't find out until season 5 rolls around.

2. The identity of the narrator will be revealed. Despite Anthony Mendez's charming narration throughout the show, the narrator's identity in the world of Jane the Virgin has been kept a secret. According to Urman, we'll find out his true identity before the show ends.

3. We will find out more about that whole Michael being back from the dead thing. Is it really him? We'll find out early on in the new season.

I have so many questions and I don't know if I can wait to have them all answered by season 5. In the meantime, I will be re-watching all four seasons of Jane the Virgin and coming up with my own predictions.
