Summer is the perfect time to embrace a relaxed style — between the ice cream runs and lazy days at the pool, it's time for your clothes to be as casual as your lifestyle! When it comes to my summer style, I’m most interested in keeping tan lines at minimum while being comfortable and looking cute. My 5 summer staples are simple and I would not be able to live (well, not literally) without them.
1. “Jorts”
Jean shorts are the perfect staple to wear over your bathing suit or while out and about. They’re inexpensive (depending on where you get them), stylish and comfortable if you buy the right pair. I wear jean shorts almost anywhere — babysitting, dinner, even to concerts. The key is to find a pair that fits you right without being too loose or tight. American Eagle has a ton of options.
2. Cropped tank top
To go with my jean shorts, a cropped tank is perfect for looking cute in hot weather. I love funky designs and patterns but I also like getting tanks in black or white so I’ll be able to wear them with more things. I love this tribal print crop top from Forever 21.
3. Birkenstocks
Rather than flip-flops, my sandals of choice happen to be Birkenstocks. I like wearing the classic Arizona style in a neutral color like taupe. They’re extremely comfortable and match almost everything. Birkenstocks come in a ton of different styles and colors, so find the ones that are right for you! It’s unlikely you’ll catch me without these!
4. Favorite bikini
We all have that one bikini that makes us feel like Beyonce (well, almost). I love spending my summer days by the pool or at the beach, so that bikini is a must have. I like bra-style bikinis that don’t give me horrible tan lines. I got this one from Volcom a couple years ago and it’s still one of my faves. PacSun has a lot of cool styles and patterns.
5. Maxi dress
Maxi dresses are perfect for barbeques, shopping days or even date nights. They’re comfortable and look effortlessly cute. I got a striped one from Marshalls that I love- it’s very similar to this one from Forever 21.
