20-year-old David Monlux is hoping to become the youngest person ever to serve as a representative for the state of Oklahoma.
The Rose State College sophomore is not asking for donations to his campaign, but is instead trying to fulfill his promise to knock on every door in his district before the primary election on Tuesday. Monlux will not turn 21 until after the election, but received a special ruling by the Oklahoma Attorney General in order to run.
“The government told me I was too young and I had to quote their laws against them to prove that I was old enough,” he says.
Monlux's proposed plans include improving the state budget, putting storm shelters in all schools and creating more college scholarships for Oklahoma students.
“I realize I’m a dark horse candidate but that doesn’t stop me from getting my message to the voters,” he says.
