Another day, another Kardashian kontroversy. Kim Kardashian is in the process of expanding her business empire, as the launch of her very own beauty line is fast approaching. Last week, the reality star tweeted a promotional photo for her makeup line, KKW Beauty, but the photo drew more concern than excitement.

Twitter users were quick to point out that Kim's skin in the photo looks unnaturally dark and accused her of intentionally using blackface to promote her crème contours and highlighters. Apparently, the star heard the message loud and clear because a significantly lighter photo was posted to her beauty account the following day. Unfortunately for Kim, this didn't quiet the critics.

Many fans came to Kim's defense, suggesting her darker coloring was a typical California tan or the work of contouring.
So we're just gonna pretend like it's not summer and she doesn't live in California!? For real y'all, calm down.

Do you know the difference between blackface and contour?

I was waiting for someone to mention this. I'm not a Kim fan, but geez. I do it on my makeup photos all the time and it helps not wash out.

Kim addressed the blackface allegations in an interview with The New York Times. "I would obviously never want to offend anyone. I used an amazing photographer and a team of people. I was really tan when we shot the images, and it might be that the contrast was off. But I showed the image to many people, to many in the business. No one brought that to our attention. No one mentioned it."
She continued, "Of course, I have the utmost respect for why people might feel the way they did. But we made the necessary changes to that photo and the rest of the photos. We saw the problem, and we adapted and changed right away. Definitely I have learned from it."
Despite public concern, the photo has not been removed from Kim's Twitter account. In fact, the lighter version is currently her profile picture.
