Rumors have been swirling about new frap flavors ever since Starbucks stopped selling the magical limited edition Unicorn Frappuccino. Well, we have some exciting news (are you sitting down for this?): Starbucks released two new colorful, fruity drinks today.
The Berry Prickly Pear Frappuccino and the Mango Pineapple Frappuccino started selling on Tuesday. The fraps are supposedly part of the "Swirls of Summer" lineup, which honestly sounds tailor-made for gorgeous social media pics. These two drinks start with a mango creme frappuccino base, and have a fruit puree at the bottom and top of the cup, similar to a parfait. The puree flavors range from mango pineapple to berry and prickly pear.
Both drinks are very sweet and fruity; they don't taste like a specific fruit as much as a sugary sorbet blend. As far as the texture goes, it's not thick—in fact, mine was pretty thin and milky. The puree adds little bursts to the creme frappuccino. Flavor-wise, it's nothing groundbreaking, but these treats are sure to help you cool off in the summer. Plus, my Instagram is SO ready.
Starbucks reps were trying to keep it on the DL. "Just stay tuned, because we have a lot more coming," former CEO Howard Schultz told CNBC. "Our Frappuccino plans are under wraps, but we look forward to sharing details very soon," a rep told Teen Vogue. But one Reddit user posted the recipe last night as a sneak peek: "The drink is super easy. Just a mango syrup Creme Frappuccino with a tiny bit of puree at the bottom and the top!" Even though the ingredients are simple, the vibrant colors of these new summer treats are a must-have for both the photos and flavors. It's basically a Starbucks smoothie.
All Starbucks addicts can head out today to try the Berry Prickly Pear Frappuccino and the Mango Pineapple Frappuccino. They're "only available while they last," so hurry up before they're gone!
