American Girl isn't just for American girls anymore - in addition to the female dolls that were all of our childhood obsessions, the company has officially announced that it will release a boy doll in 2017.
According to Cosmopolitan, the new addition to American Girl's lineup will be named Logan Everett, a drummer who plays in a band with his friend Tenney Grant - another new doll that the company plans to release this Thursday alongside Logan.
Apparently, American Girl has been getting requests for a boy doll for years, and the company is hoping to diversify the interests and experiences of its character offering.
"Adding a boy to our lineup has been a number one request for a very, very, very long time," American Girl's director of public relations told the Huffington Post.
Over on American Girl's Facebook page, parents were commenting on the announcement, and reactions were super positive - many parents were saying they had sons as well as daughters that have been waiting years for American Girl to add a male doll. (Because just like girls can play with chemistry sets, cars and trucks, it's totally cool if a boy wants to play with a doll.)
"My little boy has been waiting for a boy doll. He is so excited," one commenter said.
While the company usually only releases one or two new dolls a year, Logan is one of several new dolls for 2017, including a Korean-American doll and a Hawaiian doll from the 1950s. After all, kids of all genders and races deserve to see themselves represented in American Girl's lineup - and we're glad the company is working hard to make that possible.
