The 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards was a victory night for women. Not only did the ladies take home numerous awards, but there were many unforgettable moments last night that completely changed the game for women everywhere. We just can't get over how inspiring these ladies actually are. Take a look at the most memorable girl power moments from last night:
Meryl Streep won the prestigious Cecil B. Demille Award
Meryl Streep is a QUEEN. Last night during the Golden Globes, Meryl delivered a speech that left everyone speechless. The internet went crazy, stars applauded her amazing words and viewers were shown how much of a wonderful woman she is. "We have to remind each other of the privilege and the responsibility of the act of empathy. We should all be proud of the work Hollywood honors here tonight," she said in closing. "As my friend, the dear departed Princess Leia, said to me once, take your broken heart, make it into art."
Viola Davis's speech
We all were brought to tears with Viola Davis's introduction for Meryl Streep. She described Streep as an "artist which makes us feel less alone." Crediting her as a successful and inspiring actress, Viola had nothing but the kindest words for her friend. We're pretty sure there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
"You make me proud to be an artist. You make me feel that what I have in me—my body, my face, my age—is enough," she said. "You encapsulate that great Emile Zola quote that if you ask me as an artist what I came into this world to do, I as an artist would say, I came to live out loud."
Emma Stone, "Best Actress in a Musical/Comedy"
If you haven't seen La La Land then you need to go ASAP so you can see the gorgeous and talented Emma Stone completely slay the musical. Last night, she was awarded "Best Actress in a Musical Comedy" for her role. Amazing job Emma! We can't wait to see all of the things you continue to accomplish in your career.
Sarah Paulson, "Best Actress in a Limited Series"
American Horror Story actress Sarah Paulson killed it on the red carpet and at the awards show last night. Because of her work as prosecuter Marsha Clark in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Sarah won the award for "Best Actress in a Limited Series." Yes, yes, yes!
Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds Tribute
We cried so many tears over this. During the show, host Jimmy Fallon introduced a special video tribute to late mother-daughter actresses Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher. In his introduction, Jimmy pointed out that with this loss, we've all lost family. We sure did, Jimmy. These two ladies will always be remembered for their talent and love.
"Sometimes we forget it's actually a community. A community of families," he said. "This past year, we lost so many legends and icons. But a few weeks ago, we lost a mother and a daughter within just a couple of days. It was a terrible loss that we all felt. Tonight, we would like to pay tribute to Carrie fisher and Debbie Reynolds."
Tracee Ellis Ross's Speech
First black woman to win "Best Actress in a Comedy" since 1983? Um, yes! Her empowering speech had us feeling all the feels.
"This is for all the women, women of color, and colorful people," she declared. "Whose stories, ideas, thoughts are not always considered worthy and valid and important. But I want you to know that I see you; we see you. It is an honor to be on this show, Black-ish. To continue expanding the way we are seen and known. And to show the magic and the beauty and the sameness of a story and stories that are outside of where the industry usually looks."
