There are so many things to look forward to this October: PSLs, the next season of Stranger Things and best of all, Halloween! However, come October 31 the desperation for a cute and creative costume is at an all-time high. No worries though, we've got you covered with the cutest DIY!

Dressing as a mermaid is a classic choice that offers so much creative expression––deciding on a color scheme, creating a fin and glamming with makeup.

With your favorite selection of bright eyeshadows and a pair of fishnet stockings, you'll be ready to walk out the door as a full blown mermaid in no time. The steps are actually pretty simple! Just pull the fishnet across a part of your face, and press the shadows on your skin until you're happy with the look. Try using multiple colorful eyeshadow shades in the same area to create an ombre effect for that ethereal sea look. Finish it off with glitter and a bright eyeliner!

I Lived Like 'Gossip Girl’s' Blair Waldorf for a Week & Here’s What Happened

$

Blair Waldorf, AKA Queen B, ruled the Upper East Side of New York City on the hit television series Gossip Girl— and along the way also taught us a lot about life during the course of the show. Blair is smart and well-educated; she attended an elite private prep school. She’s pretty, feisty, sophisticated, driven and ambitious, sarcastic, wealthy and worldly. Blair doesn’t take no for an answer, has a strong sense of confidence, knows her worth and does whatever it takes to achieve what she wants. She is the perfect role model for any female!

Plus she possesses impeccable taste in fashion. Blair’s personal style became iconic, and continues to have many recreating her signature looks. (Her classic headbands, tweed jackets, colored tights, plaid skirts, Louboutin heels, trench coats, pearl earrings and preppy attire ring a bell?!)

As an experiment, I decided to fully live like Blair Waldorf for an entire week and employed a ‘What Would Blair Do?’ mindset. (After all, she is good at making decisions since she has many positive attributes and personality traits.)

As an original Gossip Girl fan from the beginning, I thought this would be fun to try since I have always loved and admired Blair – and already identify with her in certain aspects. (Plus I’ve read all the books, have binge watched the entire series too many times to count and have taken the Gossip Girl sites tour in NYC.)

RELATED: Quiz: Which 'Gossip Girl' Character Are You?

The timing now was perfect because I am a young ambitious female, who lives in New York City and attends a private college on the Upper East Side. It’s very Blair, right? The lifestyle here is fast paced, schedules are always hectic, you’re always striving to obtain goals, events and parties are a constant occurrence, celebrity sightings are inevitable and you are experiencing culture at its prime.

To live like Blair, and fully obtain her mindset, I followed these five steps:

1. Confidence

It is Blair Waldorf who proclaims, “I’m the best of the best. I’m Blair Waldorf.” When you are secure and confident with yourself, you feel better and happier overall in life. You also attract other secure and confident individuals into your life, then you all get along well and empower each other. Blair would cut out anyone from her life who didn’t want her to succeed and be happy – and we all should too. Life is too short to surround yourself with anything less than good people who want you to thrive.

When life got overwhelming and hectic with work, writing, events, and relationships I reminded myself, “I am Katie Gray. People don’t tell me who I am, I tell them.” When you whisper this to yourself in stressful situations you actually do feel better after saying it out loud. It’s like, ‘Oh I was momentarily flustered but I’m back again and I got this, obviously!’

At the end of the day, we all work hard so we do in fact have this! (Seriously, we can handle any situation thrown at us in life. Also, remember it’s the struggles that make it interesting and keep us humble and grateful.)

2. Fashion

Every day is a fashion show and the world is the runway – especially when you live in New York City and are in a Blair Waldorf State of Mind. New York is the epitome for fashion here in the United States. It’s where Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week famously takes place every September and February, and it’s where every major fashion magazine publication is located. Blair and fashion go together hand in hand.

To be like Blair, I did as she would do. I never said no to a shopping invitation, I dressed preppy and chic, I took the train as little as possible since she despises it, I wouldn’t purchase anything on sale and I avoided anything that was so last season. (Remember when Blair was interviewing new minions and with a dissatisfied facial expression, asked the girl, “Are those last season’s Tory Burch flats?!”)

“Whoever said that money doesn’t buy happiness, didn’t know where to shop.” – Blair Waldorf

It was all about accessories this week. Blair’s infamous headbands are symbolic because they are like her crown and tiara she puts on every morning. Her fashion dictates her mood and mine did too. When she’s feeling down she wears hats, capes and ponchos. When she is trying to be extra mature and seem older she wears oversized pearl earrings, argyle, turtle necks and tweed. When the weather is nice and she is happy she wears bright colors. She also always rocks a defined bold lip, so I did too and purchased MAC’s Cyber, Russian Red and Angel lip shades. She likes little black dresses and always looks chic and conservative at parties – which are matched with jewels. So I wore black dresses with Blair inspired accessories and makeup tones.

Although we all aren’t as fortunate as Blair to have a never ending source of income to buy designer goods, a fashion designer mother, a boyfriend like Chuck Bass to buy us expensive jewelry and a best friend/housekeeper like her Dorota – we can still channel our inner Blair!

3. Go-Getter

Blair is constantly striving and she is notorious for being a go-getter. Some of her fantasies and goals have included: Joining the Peace Corps, getting a killer tan, winning the Nobel Peace Prize and having dinner with the President of the United States. Hey, a girl has to dream, right?! I focused solely this week on making things that I wanted happen and did whatever made me happy. As Blair says, “Destiny is for losers. It’s just a stupid excuse to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen.”

RELATED: Your Complete Guide to Binge-Watching 'Gossip Girl'

We have to take matters into our own hands. That means pursuing everything we want, taking care of our own business, researching everything ourselves and constantly learning. That’s how Blair knows absolutely everything about everyone. (I didn’t conduct any blackmailing and spying like she has been known to do from time to time, though! It’s best to avoid, if possible.) But B is right, “If you really want something you don’t stop for anyone or anything, until you get it."

4. Determination & Affirmations

If Blair is anything, it is determined. She never lets anything or anyone get in the way of her dreams, goals and desires. This alone is a great message for everyone to remember and encompass. I made sure to not let anyone interfere with my goals and visions. I made sure to channel this while I was interning in the beauty department of a public relations firm in the city and freelance writing all week.

Sometimes Blair can be extreme, such as her remark, “You can’t make people love you but you can make them fear you.” However, she has a point – we can’t put our focus on what people will think. We just have to be ourselves and the right ones will love us and the ones who don’t – it’s their loss.

Blair is willing to do whatever it takes in order to reach her achievements and has been seen reading ‘The Art of War’ by Sun Tzu. In my quest to be more Blair like I read the book this week. I actually already had a copy of it because it’s a classic, I’m a bookworm and I had noticed Blair had read it on the show when I was in high school so it was on my reading list for a while. I get what the buzz is about, there are good tactics listed to winning any type of war or endeavor. It was not only Sun Tzu, but Blair, who taught me that with determination and perseverance we can be successful at anything we put forth our minds and efforts to.

That means when people try to rain on our parade and be negative, you have to shut it right down and not let it bother you. This week when people were being even the slightest bit discouraging, I ignored it and kept calm and carried on. I remembered what Blair would say to anyone who tried to doubt her or stop her from achieving her dreams.

We all need to remember our worth. It's just like Blair explains, “I’m not a stop along the way. I’m a destination.” This particularly comes into context when dealing with interpersonal relationships. Blair is right, “A girl wants Romeo, not Hamlet.” She’s also right that, we all need a 'Knight in Shining Armani'. But when they aren’t up to par and don’t know how to treat us the way we know we deserve we have to remember Blair, “My life is so bountiful, I don’t need a boyfriend to feel fulfilled.”

5. Blair’s Favorite Things

This week I indulged in all of Blair’s favorites. That means I watched the beautiful classic film Breakfast at Tiffany’s, ate macarons and Godiva, partook in quintessential New York activities like brunch at Bagatelle, looked religiously at fashion magazines, focused on my college goals, hung out with my best friends (constantly dragging them on adventures with me) and read many novels including 'The Art of War'.

I also went to places that Blair frequents and would approve of, such as: Central Park, the Met (and sat on those famous steps like Blair did every morning of her high school years), Henri Bendel, the Empire Hotel for drinks, Lavo for dinner, etc. I made sure I drank a gin martini, as Blair prefers. (Remember when she scolded Little Jenny Humprhey and explained, “This is a Gin Martini. As it should be.”)

At the end of the day, we must:

Forever 21 Is Opening Its First Dedicated Beauty Store & It Honestly Sounds Next Level

You might not typically think of Forever 21 as a place that offers the latest and greatest beauty buys. Sure, it's fun to throw a couple nail polishes in your basket before you check out, but if you've ever spent dedicated time in the store's beauty shelves you'll have noticed that the product offering is lowkey amazing. That's why the chain just announced they'll be opening Riley Rose, a spin-off store dedicated to the amazing beauty products Forever 21 carries. According to Refinery29, the first location will open on September 30 at the Glendale Galleria in California, and fifty more shops will follow by the end of 2017.

What we know so far is that Riley Rose is supposed to be very interactive, meaning the locations will offer unique ways to engage with products digitally and through social media while you shop. Do we sense a selfie-booth coming our way? Some brands you can expect to find at Riley Rose will be Essie, Lipland, Lime Crime, Dearpacker, Nuca and more favorites you may have usually only been able to get online.

We definitely didn't need another place to blow our money at, but we're still so happy about this anyway.

Here's What Trump's UN 'Rocket Man' Speech on North Korea Was All About

$

0

On Tuesday morning President Donald Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly for a lengthy 42 minute speech that took aim primarily at North Korea.

In recent months North Korea has attempted to establish themselves as a threat to the United States with the firing of test missiles over Japan and confirmation from North Korean officials that their missiles could reach as far as the United States. However, Trump was quick to fire back his own threat with a tweet that read, “Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely. Hopefully Kim Jong Un will find another path!”

However, as more threats from North Korea continued to roll in, Trump used his platform to set the record straight.

According to Business Insider, he began his speech by taking aim at Kim Jong Un's leadership skills and stated, “No one has shown more contempt for other nations and for the well-being of their people than the depraved regime in North Korea. It is responsible for the starvation deaths of millions of North Koreans and for the imprisonment, torture, killing, and oppression of countless more."

He also cited the case of Otto Warmbier, the American college student who visited the country and was held in a North Korean prison for more than a year, who died just days after being returned to the United States in June.

Trump then ramped up his speech and according to the Los Angeles Times, stated, “Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime. The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself and its allies, it will have no choice but to destroy North Korea."

The nickname "Rocket Man," in reference to Kim Jong Un (and maybe Elton John) should come as no surprise, as Trump is known for giving nearly everyone he encounters a personalized (and often times highly offensive) stage name. [Insert Nasty Woman here.] This latest one didn't do much to impress the Internet.

However, Trump did not slow down as he barreled right into his next point of hinting the United States removal from the Iran Nuclear Deal. A deal he referred to as, "One of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into" and "an embarrassment to the United States."

"And I don’t think you’ve heard the last of it," he added, according to the Los Angeles Times."Believe me."

While his speech covered some of the main points already established in his foreign policy, it was an unusually brash display for the United Nations General Assembly. And, for better or worse, the nickname "Rocket Man" will most certainly take off in the weeks and months to come.

James Corden Says He's Disappointed by His Emmys Photo With Sean Spicer, But He's Still Joking About It

The star-studded Emmy Awards have come and gone, but the backlash of Sean Spicer's appearance that evening still remains. A photo James Corden took with the former White House press secretary caused quite a scene on social media, leading Corden to speak out about it on his Late Late Show Monday night.

"According to some reports, at the after-party, Spicer was the most popular guy in the room," Corden said. "And I just want to say, I think people are forgetting that this man lied to the American people, and should not be embraced. These Hollywood phonies kissing up to Sean Spicer are disgusting. I mean, who did this? Who are we talking about here?!" As he said this, his photo with Spicer was shown to the audience.

"I know you think that is a picture of me kissing Sean Spicer but, in the spirit of Sean Spicer, no it isn't. To be fair, everyone was kissing ass last night at the Emmys. I just happened to kiss the biggest one there."

Despite all the jokes Corden made about the situation, he made sure to express his disappointment. "In truth, I'm disappointed by it as well. I am. I have been reading a lot of harsh comments on Twitter today and I hear you loud and clear. Truly, I do."

Well, James, I'm just glad you can find humor in any situation. Though the photo might not have been favorable among the general public, Corden wasn't the only A-lister hobnobbing with Spicer that night.

Hopefully James and the rest of this crowd have learned their lesson.

23 Times Chuck & Blair Were the Best-Dressed Couple EVER

$

0

Prepare to feel really old—it’s been 10 years since Gossip Girl premiered, coming into our lives and forever making them better. The show that gave us Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass also provided some of the greatest style moments in TV history, many of which were thanks to the OTP. Though it was hard to narrow down, we’ve picked 23 of our favorite ensembles from the duo to prove Chuck and Blair were by far the best-dressed couple EVER.

1. Masters of the uniform

Nobody quite does uniforms like C and B. They got it right time and time again in their Constance and St. Jude’s duds, which was the first indicator that their style would be on point for years to come.

2. In the trenches

Before these two were even a legit couple, they were taking wardrobe tips from each other.

3. Matching is key

Let us make one thing clear: Chuck and Blair were always at their best when wearing matching outfits. These green ensembles from the show’s Season 2 Hamptons tenure set the precedent for what would become GG fashion law.

4. Cotillion

Keeping their as-yet-undefined relationship under wraps at Cotillion, we were elated seeing Chuck and Blair step out at a formal affair together for the first time. It’s really B’s bow-shouldered silver gown that shines here, with Chuck’s attire selflessly playing second fiddle to amp up their overall look.

5. White party

Who could forget the White Party? Certainly not us! These outfits may be etched in our memories because of the all-important three words, eight letters conversation, but that doesn’t make them any less scene-stealing on their own.

6. Always bring peonies

Chuck just told Blair he loves her! Chuck just told Blair he loves her! Okay, we’re getting a bit distracted. But aren’t these looks just as flawless as this moment?

7. Summer lovin’

New coupledom looked swell on Chuck and Blair, are we right? Starting out a love-filled Season 3 on a high note, this moment cemented that the duo’s style is even better together.

8. Power couple

We have basically the same feelings about this as we do about #7. Probably because it’s from the same episode. We just couldn’t choose.

9. Polo match

On any other people, these colors might look completely ridiculous. But not on fashion risk-takers like Bass and Waldorf. Confession: This is indeed from the same episode as #7 and #8. What can we say? They were three for three.

10. College, here she comes

Keep in mind we would never wear pumps on our first day—or really any day—of college, as Blair did. You can take the Queen B out of the UES, but you can’t take the UES out of the Queen B. Chuck seeing her off for her big NYU adventure was just the cherry on top of this look.

11. Speakeasy costumed

Costume parties always lent a nice change of pace to the Gossip Girl fashion norms. Season 3’s prohibition-style soiree allowed Chuck and Blair to do the two things they loved most: scheme and look superb doing it.

12. Flashback dreaming

Old Hollywood dream sequences make for outstanding style moments, don’t you think? Dressed to the nines, these two come out on top… even if Vanessa did best Blair in her All About Eve-inspired nightmare.

13. Wintry mix

The coldest months aren’t upon us yet, but winter is coming. That’s why we’ll be taking inspiration from C and B’s bundled up chic layering.

14. Wedding guests

We’ve seen a fair share of UES weddings, but an outdoorsy fall theme allowed for palettes that we weren’t used to seeing on this bunch. Switching up their ordinarily proper ensembles for these more relaxed silhouettes was a welcome change.

15. Cordially invited

At this point, we’ve almost run out of ways to describe their endlessly spot on style. This is just another great example of Blair and Chuck’s fashion expertise. Shall we move on?

16. Business not-so-casual

We loved seeing Blair in a suit after years of watching Chuck slay in the menswear department. This outfit gently pointed to Blair’s inevitable success as a businesswoman, as she reached her career goals so she could be with Chuck once and for all.

17. Monkey business

That cute little mutt that stole Chuck’s heart is a mere distraction. Because bumping into your former beau at the duck pond never looked so good.

18. Adorbs, even apart

Don’t be fooled by the hand holding. Chuck and Blair were not together in this episode. But aren’t they cute together?

19. On a mission

The mixing of prints and colors here should throw us off. But B and C found a way to stand out among a sea of lame dressers, which was kind of their superpower.

20. Party crashers

This episode had a lot of ups and downs, and we’re not just talking about the bar mitzvah chair—all the puns intended—ritual thing. These clothes looked almost as great on as they did getting ripped off in the steamy scene that followed.

21. Meet in the middle

Be still our beating hearts! This was pure magic, from the setting to the wardrobe to the pair’s first chilling encounter after Chuck’s near-death experience. But what we adore about these outfits is the juxtaposition of Blair’s stunning gown and the commoner’s clothing Chuck is wearing. It’s something we never thought we’d see on GG, but we’re oh-so-glad we did.

22. Building their Empire

This has got to be our favorite on the list. The coordinating colors and pure joy here set these ensembles apart from all others, in our opinions.

23. I do times two

Stop the presses. Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Bass in the stunning outfits they wore to—FINALLY—marry each other at Bethesda Fountain. What a perfect way to end the series! Excuse us while we pin this to our “bride-to-be with no engagement ring” Pinterest board.

Which of Chuck and Blair’s looks is your favorite, collegiettes?

Toys 'R' Us Files For Bankruptcy Just In Time For Christmas

Remaining relevant in todays marketplace is proving to be harder and harder for many retailers. From Blockbuster to local mom and pop stores, the world wide web has taken over world of retail and has changed the landscape rapidly.

Unfortunately, Toys R Us is the latest company to feel the burden of the e-commerce bubble and amid rising debt loads, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Richmond, VA, Reuters reports.

However, as the holiday shopping season is rapidly approaching, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dave Brandon still told NPR that the stores wouldn't be leaving shoppers in the lurch.

“As the holiday season ramps up, our physical and web stores are open for business, and our team members around the world look forward to continuing to put huge smiles on children's faces,” Brandon said.

While the store has not declared an official closing date, their flagship store in Times Square did close down last Decemberwhich sparked concern for customers and employees everywhere, and has led many to not be surprised with the most recent bankruptcy announcement.

Though NPR recently reported that it's been an "especially terrible year so far for retailers" and the future of brick and mortar toy stores seems uncertain, Toys 'R' Us doesn't seem like they're going down without a fight.

Jake Gyllenhaal Finally Answered a Question About Taylor Swift, But I Feel Nothing

Believe it or not, it's been almost seven years since Jaylor (Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal—not Joe Jonas, or John Mayer, or her high school ex Jordan Alford. Phew.) broke up. This means it's been almost seven years of both parties masterfully avoiding discussing the other in public. The relationship ended, Taylor wrote a song (naturally) and the exes seem to be cordial. The pair may have moved on, and on, and on, but that doesn't mean the rest of the world is done talking about them.

In a recent interview promoting his upcoming movie Stronger, Jake sat down with Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman, who he plays in the film. The men pretty much just roasted each other the whole time, which gave Jeff the perfect opportunity to question Jake about his famous ex

"If you lost your legs in real life, do you think Taylor Swift would write a song about it?" he asked the actor sarcastically.

Gyllenhaal responded, unphased, "For me, or about it?"

Bauman clarified, "No, like, for you. Like a country song."

Then, the man who supposedly inspired "All Too Well" gave an incredibly anti-climatic answer, completely dodging the question. "She's sort of moved onto pop now."

Thanks for nothing, Jake. It looks like no one is going to dig up any dirt on these exes. I guess everything truly is all too well between them.

Experts On Hazing Say Incidents Have Reached Epidemic Levels

$

Monday, September 18 was the first day of National Hazing Prevention Week and experts are warning that the dangerous practice has reached epidemic levels.

According to HazingPrevention.org, “Hazing affects more than half of college and university students involved in clubs, sports teams and organizations,” placing virtually every active college student at risk.

Hazing, a term used to describe strenuous or humiliating acts forced upon individuals for purposes of initiation or involvement into a group, is cited as a common college experience in line with the "Freshmen 15." However, the side effects are far more harrowing and long-lasting.

For many college students looking to rush a sorority or fraternity, hazing is merely a right of passage and something one most endure to land a coveted spot amongst their fellow peers, however hazing has reportedly reached new levels. A study conducted by the University of Maine found that, “Students recognize hazing as part of the campus culture. 69 [percent] of students who belonged to a student activity reported they were aware of hazing  activities occurring in student organizations other than their own.”

However, for some students hazing is a death sentence. Most recently Penn State student and Beta Theta Pi brother, Timothy Piazza died in early February when he sustained head injuries from a head-first fall down a flight of stairs that was later revealed to be caused from consuming, “toxic levels of alcohol" during hazing activities.Even more disturbing was his fellow brothers actions of refusing to call 911 and deleting text messages and, “Debating whether to scrub security footage that showed the moments leading up to his grievous injuries,”The Washington Postreports.

In the wake of his death, Piazza’s parents Jim and Evelyn led a forum on the Today show Tuesday morning, that aimed to openly and diligently discuss why hazing occurs and what students, universities and politicians can do to prevent and hold others accountable.

Dr. Gentry McCreary joined the forum and noted that many students still haze and participate in hazing because, “They want people to earn” acceptance and access to whatever in-group position they're vying for. Mcreary added that while some groups haze altruistically, there is often abuse of power.”

This abuse of power often times can spiral out of control and what goes on behind closed doors is often never reported or ever known until it is too late. The same study conducted by the University of Maine found that, “In 95 [percent] of the cases where students identified their experience as hazing,  they did not report the events to campus officials.” This ultimately posses an incredible challenge for college campuses and campus security, because without evidence, hazing will continue.

However, students entering college are adults and should be held accountable for their actions and colleges must first acknowledge that. In 2013 officials at Ohio State University suspended the Delta Sigma Theta sorority until the fall of 2016 for alleged hazing incidents and the university came under even more fire when OSU suspended or disciplined 10 fraternities for hazing, and six other sororities for similar offenses.

In an effort to bring more awareness to the issue, NBC News and MSNBC are hosting a week-long broadcast and digital special series this week titled, “Hazing in America,” that will shed light on the issue and allow victims of hazing, their families and lawmakers to provide their input and take on this national epidemic.

This is not an issue that will go away over night, but it is one that starts with the students inside the Greek life houses, locker rooms and clubs that condone such behavior and continue to be bystanders.

For more information on how you can help prevent hazing on your college campus you can visit StopHazing.org for more information.

The Trailer for Blake Lively's Next Film Will Give You Chills

When you think of Blake Lively, you probably think about Gossip Girl or literally anything other than horror movies. But now, Blake’s crossed over into the thriller genre. The trailer for her latest film, All I See Is Youjust dropped, and it's pretty creepy.

According to HelloGiggles, All I See Is You, which will be released on October 27, is about a woman who lost her eyesight as a child in an accident that killed both her parents. She regains her sight as an adult, which changes the dynamic of her marriage.

Blake previously spoke to Glamour about the film. "Gina’s husband appreciates her. It seems like he doesn’t mind that she has this condition that makes her rely on him. But what you learn is it goes beyond the fact that he doesn’t mind. It becomes an obsessive love story. You realize it’s a codependency. And when the codependency no longer exists [when she can see again], it can create fractures."

Yikes! I've got chills.

How to Watch

Netflix

Reasons to Watch

Let’s get one thing straight: We should *not* have to convince you to watch Gossip Girl. This is THE show of our generation, so get on board. You truly haven’t lived until you’ve seen every episode of this series.

Suggested Rate of Watching

With episodes clocking in at roughly 42 minutes each, it’s likely you’ll only get through one or two a day. But the pro binge-watcher inside of you will be begging for more.

You Will Like This Show if You Like…

One Tree Hill, The O.C., Dawson’s Creek, 90210, Pretty Little Liars

Best Season

Season One (& Season Two)

This is a real toss-up. As is the case with any show set in high school, Gossip Girl is at its best in—you guessed it—high school. Season 1 is filled with all the explosive drama that you expect from a show like GG, but Season 2 ups the ante and takes it even further.

Worst Season

Season Three

Gossip Girl stumbles when our favorite group of rich kids leaves high school, embarking on the show’s boring and oftentimes incoherent take on college. This group is made for the real world, where well-off teenagers don’t need jobs to stay in the black. The show does well to remember that and recovers once it does.

Character You Will Aspire to Be Like

Blair Waldorf

There is none other like her—in the television world or the real world. Blair is the epitome of what every young woman wishes she could be. To say that Blair Waldorf is goals would be the world’s biggest understatement, so you’ll just have to discover what makes her so amazing yourself.

Characters You Will Love to Hate

Jenny Humphrey

Jenny starts out as the naïve youngster who just wants to fit in. By the time she’s done wreaking havoc on the Upper East Side, you’ll never want to see her raccoon eyes again.

Vanessa Abrams

Vanessa does not, in any way, shape or form, work in this world. She can be a delightful breath of fresh air at times, but mostly she’s the judgy outcast you wish would just shut up.

Georgina Sparks

You’ll either love her or hate her, but if Georgina is around, you always know great drama is not far behind.

Pretty Much Everyone at Some Point

Truth be told, you will hate all of these characters (with the exception of Blair and possibly Chuck) at some point while binging the series. Prepare to have wavering emotions about everyone, from the core Upper East Siders to guest stars. You’ve been warned.

Couples You Will Be Shipping

Chuck & Blair

Tell us the name of one person who does not bend over backwards to find a love like Blair and Chuck’s. You can’t? That’s because psychos like that do not exist. Chair is EVERYTHING, and we will continue to adore them until the end of time.

Serena & Blair

This friendship, though tumultuous, stands the test of time. Even when they hate each other, these BFFs know what they have is worth fighting for. We’re all just looking for the Serena to our Blair—right, ladies?

Terminology You Need to Know

XOXO— Gossip Girl’s signature sign-off.

Queen— the ruler of Constance Billard School for Girls or any place she deems worthy of conquering.

Minions— brainless waifs that assist in the queen’s domination.

Non-Judging Breakfast Club— friend group made up of Blair, Serena, Nate and Chuck; take on each other’s problems regularly without judgment.

Three words, eight letters— another way of saying “I love you”; the sexiest and most romantic thing you can say to another human being.

Chair— Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf’s couple name; synonymous with true and everlasting love.

What to Do When You’re Done Watching

Languish in the fact that you will never be a true Upper East Sider or part of the NJBC and likely will never find a love like Chuck and Blair’s. But delight in the fact that you can pretend and re-watch this series until you’ve memorized it, like every legit GG fan does.

The 'Gossip Girl' Creators Reveal 7 Story Ideas That Never Made it to Air

$

After six seasons of Gossip Girl's pretty wild plot lines (Chuck's dad coming back to life still stumps me), you'd think the creators of the show used all their best ideas, but in an interview with Vulture for the 10-year anniversary of GG's premiere, co-creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and executive producer Joshua Safran revealed some potential storylines that didn't pan out.

1. Eric van der Woodsen as Gossip Girl

Before they had definitively decided on Dan as GG, the idea of Eric being the infamous blogger was popular. At one point in the early years of the show, there was a very brief mention of a rumor that Eric was Gossip Girl, which pretty much confirmed for me that he wasn't, but I guess it actually was given some serious thought. “I always thought it was Eric until the end of season two, and I even guided it that way, but when the New York Post revealed it was Eric—and I still don’t know how that happened, I think they were just guessing—and we realized we couldn't go down that road anymore, so we abandoned him,” Safran said. Honestly, thank God, because Eric is just too nice to be a good Gossip Girl.

2. Nate Archibald as Gossip Girl

Nate never sent in any tips to Gossip Girl, which could've meant he was GG, but the creators chose to not pursue this idea. "But in the end, it had to be Dan, because Dan’s a writer, observer, and could write in different styles," Safran said. Once again, good. I don't need them ruining Nate for me.

3. A Katy Perry cameo

A lot of celebrities wanted to appear on the show. I mean, who wouldn't want to guest star on Gossip Girl? Unfortunately, a lot of these appearances didn't work out. In regards to Katy Perry, Safran said, “It was around the time of a record release of hers, and she had too many obligations so we couldn't make it work.” Dang.

4. A box of dildos, courtesy of Georgina Sparks

The show was already pretty sexy for network television, but the head honchos had even more sex planned. For one, Georgina was supposed to send Serena a box of dildos, but TV regulations wouldn't allow for it. "There were dildos she sent to Dan at the house, and we had these really huge dildos in this house that Penn [Badgley] was so shocked to see—but we cut it because you couldn't show them on air,” Safran said. That definitely would've been an iconic Georgina moment.

5. An episode at the Met Ball

Given the incredible fashion on Gossip Girl, seeing the characters attend the Met Ball would've made total sense. "We got really close, but it was just too complicated and secretive to shoot at the Met Ball," Savage said. "They were adamant that the Ahh! moment when people walked through the doors could not be spoiled by a production crew having been there, even if it hadn’t aired on TV yet." Seeing Blake Lively and Leighton Meester at the Met Ball IRL has given us a taste of the amazing style that could've been. *sigh* I don't blame the organizers, though, because Chuck and Blair would've put Kimye to shame.

6. Old Jenny Humphrey staying the course

Did you hate Jenny Humphrey's shift to the dark side? Well, her character was a reflection of Taylor Momsen's personal evolution outside of the show. The creators couldn't maintain Jenny's innocent, good girl persona when Taylor was making changes—like edgier hair and a darker reputation as lead singer of her band, Pretty Reckless—that didn't vibe with that. "But I would say Jenny’s transformation to a darker character wouldn't have happened had Taylor wanted to be Jenny,” Safran said. “It was hard at a certain point to write for the old Jenny; we had to write for the new Taylor." The old Taylor can't come to the phone right now. Why? Because she's dead.

7. More diverse casting

Hindsight is always 20-20, and the creators said looking back, they would've tried to explore more diverse characters and plot lines. "When I look back on Gossip Girl, the only things I regret were not as much representation for people of color and gay story lines," Safran said. “Those are the two things I think we probably could have delved into more deeply, but other than that, I only regret things like not showing Chuck finger Blair and the dildos and other sexual stuff."

Despite what didn't make it to air, the show fit a lot of quality stuff into six seasons. We can at least thank our lucky stars that Chuck and Blair made the cut.

Miley Cyrus Gets Real About Not Wanting to Marry Liam Hemsworth Right Now

Judging by Miley Cyrus's latest interview with The Sun, it's going to be a while before she becomes Mrs. Liam Hemsworth. Though the couple restored our faith in love by getting re-engaged after time apart, Miley doesn't seem too eager to get hitched.

"I'm 24," Miley said. "I hope I get to live a little bit more. I have too much living to do [before I get married]." It only makes sense, as the singer is still finding who she is, which is evident if you listen to "Younger Now."

Miley didn't exactly expect to be happily engaged to Liam at this point in her life, which is enough to show why she wants to wait. "Three years ago, if you'd asked me if I'd be here, this happy with this man, I'd have been stunned. I'm just riding this out. In some relationships, you lose yourself by being with someone else. Actually, it made me find myself more. I have no idea what the next three years will bring, but if it's possible to get even happier, I'll take it." Aww! If this is what works for them, I'm absolutely thrilled for the couple.

The "Malibu"singer went on to say, "I just want people to see that this is who I am right now. I'm not saying I've never been myself. Who I was on the last record was really who I am. It's just myself has been a lot of different people because I change a lot. I think I'm just figuring out who I am at such a rapid pace that it's hard for me to keep up with myself." You go, Miley!

No matter how long we have to wait to see Liam and Miley walk down the aisle, it will all be worth it. It's clear Miley is being thoughtful about getting married. There's no shame in putting her happiness first.

'Moana' Is Basically the Exact Opposite Story of 'The Little Mermaid'

We've heard the rumors that Disney movies are somehow all connected. With each film release comes a new wave of imaginative fans who try to convince us, say, that Tarzan and Elsa and Anna from Frozen are actually siblings separated by unfortunate circumstances. Welp, the conspiracy theorists are at it again, this time posing the question: Is Moana actually the complete opposite of The Little Mermaid?

While the films came out almost three decades apart, Disney fans on Tumblr have found some compelling similarities, Cosmopolitan reports. For example, while Princess Ariel is determined to explore land, Moana wants to explore the ocean. The Little Mermaid has a friendly little crab; Moana has a big evil crab. The hero has a magical necklace in Moana; the villain has a magical necklace in The Little Mermaid. The eerie opposites don't stop there.

http://zabchan.tumblr.com/post/159978807369/asterlunanova-roisinlikesbooks

As it turns out, the singing crab similarity wasn't an accident. Songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda purposefully paid tribute to The Little Mermaid with this tune, so could it be that all the other comparisons aren't so far-fetched after all?

At the end of the day, The Little Mermaid is a fairytale romance between two unlikely lovers and Moana is a culturally empowering story about saving the environment. But there's no doubt that the plot lines have a lot more in common than expected. I'm on to you, Disney.

6 Ways to Update Your Look Without Doing Anything Drastic

$

0

If there’s ever a perfect time to figure out your look, it’s in college. Everywhere you turn there are students expressing themselves through their hair, makeup, style, and even their skin. There is never a more accepting time to express yourself through your physical appearance than in college, but sometimes you don’t want to make drastic changes in case they don’t work out (nobody wants a tattoo they regret). So here’s a list of six things you can do to subtly update your look—and none of them will break the bank!

1. Try clip-in hair extensions

The clip-in hair extensions of 2017 are far more natural than the ones we all tried out in middle school. Some of our favorite celebs, like Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, use extensions to amp up the volume of their hair. While extensions are on the pricier side of our list, if you buy quality locks made out of real human hair, they’ll last a long time. All you need to do is find extensions that match your hair color, and you’re set to wow your campus with your new mane.

2. Change your part

Yes, changing up your look can be as simple as switching your part. Most of us have gotten into the habit of parting our hair the same way for years. Try moving your part to one side or the other, or go for a middle part. Middle parts have become trendy again in recent years, so now is the perfect time to try it out. The results can actually make a big change in your overall appearance!

3. Treat yo’self to an acrylic manicure

Sometimes all it takes to feel like a *new woman* is a fresh set of nails. If you need inspiration, check out Instagram or Pinterest for the latest trends. Acrylic nails are more expensive than a basic manicure, but they’ll last longer and usually you can pick adorable add-on’s like rhinestones or even fur (we aren’t sure how we feel about them though). “Whenever I need a nail refresher, I change the shape, go for a color I wouldn't normally go for and sometimes add rhinestones or some sort of unexpected accent nail,” says Marisa Pieper, a sophomore at Arizona State University. “If someone is looking for an edgier look, I would go for a pointed tip on the nail with some sort of texturized finish and if they want a more modern look, the coffin shape with a matte finish. Nails can make us feel so confident!” Your new mani will last around two weeks, making it the perfect subtle (or not, if you go the furry-nail route) change to your look.

4. Try bold new makeup looks

These days, makeup artists are all over the place. There are thousands of YouTube tutorials for fun new makeup trends to try. Chances are if you wear makeup already, you have most of the things you’ll need at home. Makeup bloggers like I Covet Thee are also a great resource for finding dupes for luxury makeup brands like Lorac and M.A.C. Plus, Sephora just launched its own version of Reddit for makeup lovers everywhere to ask questions and give feedback and advice. Have a classic go-to makeup look? Switch up your lip color or go for a cat-eye. “If you normally don't bother with lipstick, try a bold color,” says Claire Biggerstaff, a junior at Davidson College. “Deep berries/plums are gorgeous for fall. And if you're normally a bold lip kind of gal, try going nude for a day. You'd be surprised at how big a difference it can make in your whole look!” Just a simple change can give you a major confidence boost, and that’s what really matters.

5. Try out a fake piercing

Remember when we all wore clip-on or stick-on earrings before our parents allowed us to get our ears pierced? The trend hasn’t died! Faux piercings are still available on sites like Etsy. “I bought fake nose hoops on Etsy and they were super cheap and so cute,” says Sarah, a junior at Temple University. “I never had the guts to get a real piercing, and in the industry I work in, face piercings aren’t really acceptable, so this was the perfect trade-off.” Nose rings and ear cuffs are the most popular fake piercings online, so they’re a great option if you’re trying out an edgier look or are just curious. And if you fall in love with it, then you can decide to go for the real thing.

6. Do a wardrobe swap with your roommate/BFF

We all have that one friend/roomie with impeccable style. She just seems to wake up and walk to class like she’s a runway model for Balenciaga, while you struggle to remember pants for your 10 a.m. lecture. To switch up your look, just ask your stylish friend if you can borrow some pieces from her closet. You don’t need to buy new clothes to get a new look. If your other friends are looking for the same kind of wardrobe change, have a day where you trade pieces from each others’ closets. It’s like shopping, but without money!

It doesn’t take much to make a huge impact on your look. Don’t be scared of change, especially since you know that it doesn’t cost too much or do much damage. No regrettable haircuts or piercings here!

You may not have joined a sorority, but you still know how to enjoy Greek life—with gyros and vacations in Mykonos. Your friends are knee-deep in chapter meetings, rush schedules and frat parties, and you have to put up with it all. Here are 15 things you'll understand if you decided not to join a sorority like your pals.

1. You are the shoulder everyone cries on if they didn't get their top bid for a sorority

2. You are basically the support system for all your friends during rush week

3. Since you aren't in a sorority, you may not be invited to frat parties but always find your way in

4. You've mastered the art of sneaking into a frat party by hiding behind your friend’s large tribe of sorority sisters

5. As it turns out, Greek Week is not a massive Greek food festival

Tzatziki sauce with everything, please!

6. When asked who your big and little sisters are, you go into a rant about your annoying biological sisters

They steal all my clothes, okay?

7. Even though you aren’t in a sorority, you know the official chant and signs for each of your friends’ houses

8. Absolutely nothing can be planned on the same night as chapter meetings

They go on FOREVER.

9. You secretly rejoice that you don’t have to attend chapter meetings and go through rush

No heels for me, tyvm.

10. Waiting awkwardly and patiently while your friend hugs every sorority sister you pass on the way to class

11. You have your official statement ready at all times for when anyone asks you why you aren’t in a sorority like the rest of your friends

12. Your closet always gets raided the day of a formal

Because your friends always wait until the last minute to find dresses and they're desperate.

13. You send your sorority friends your notes from class if they're busy planning sisterhood events

Or they probably slept through lecture from staying up too late the night before for rush week.

14. Everyone asks if you feel like you missed out on the bond between sorority sisters and you're like:

15. But at the end of the day, sorority sister or not, your love for your friends will last a lifetime
