Zac Efron Once Saved a Puppy While in His Underwear

Admit it, you've all fantasized about being Zac Efron's neighbor. Like, have you SEEN him? We think he'd probably be one of the coolest neighbors, like, ever. Now, imagine looking out your window one day and seeing Zac running outside in his underwear. Yeah, that actually happened to his real-life neighbors one day—and we're SO jealous. So why was Zac caught outside in his undergarments? Believe it or not, it was to save a dog's life!

In an interview to promote Neighbors 2, Zac Efron and Seth Rogen stopped by BuzzFeed to play a game of "Never Have I Ever" and chat about their upcoming sequel. The result? A hilarious story from Zac about the time he was caught walking around half-naked by his neighbors—because he was trying to rescue a stray puppy. *cue the awws*

"I rescued a dog," Zac said. Since we obviously needed him to elaborate on that important bit of information, he added, "He was a puppy and he got away…I just ran out in the yard to go save him, like in the street, in my underwear—I just woke up—and snagged him and was like, 'No, don't run away.'"

See, this is just further proof that Zac is a legitimate lifesaver. While Zac probably felt great about saving this dog's life, his happiness was quickly dissipated by embarrassment, as Zac realized that his neighbors witnessed him running outside in his undies. "I looked up and my neighbor and his whole family were like, 'Morning!' I was like, 'Hey! This is awkward. You have a lot of kids,'" he said.

Let's just make this reason number 454,833 why we ADORE Zac Efron.

According to everyone on the Internet, your zodiac reveals everything about you—how you fall in love, what type of friend you are, what your favorite food is. So we’ve decided to add to the list of things that your date of birth should tell you about your life. If you’re in need of some help in the career department, keep reading to find out what you should do for a living, based on your zodiac sign.

Capricorn

Your mind is on your money and your money is on your mind. You’re ambitious and you strive to be super successful, to the point where everything you do is based on how it will help you out financially. On top of your dedication to saving money, you’re also responsible and you work hard, which is why should consider being a banker or accountant.

Aquarius

You’re witty and clever, but also kind of a cynic. You’re pretty emotionally detached from people, but you still manage to work well with others. Your mind works in different ways because of how smart and progressive you are. You would make a great scientist or researcher.

Pisces

You’re pretty hard on yourself when it comes to your career. You don’t like to be in positions of power because you don’t like the pressure, but you’re very creative and hard-working. Because you’re a creative thinker who’s passionate about the world around you, you would make a great poet or musician.

Aries

You need to be in charge, and your extremely competitive nature makes it hard for you to take no for an answer. In addition to being aggressive, you’re also pretty caring, which is probably why you would make such a great leader—you know how to push people and encourage them with your optimism. For that, you’d make a great CEO or social activist.

Taurus

“You smart. You loyal. You grateful.” When DJ Khaled dropped that knowledge, he was probably talking about you because you like to get shit done. You consider yourself the HBIC because you’re pretty determined, and the immense amount of passion you have for everything you do makes you one of the hardest working people you know. Your stubborn nature is what helps you keep on keeping on when others would give up, which is why you’re likely to be an entrepreneur or business owner.

Gemini

Nobody can tell you what to do. Whatever you do for a living needs to provide you with the option to be free to do anything you want to do, how you want to do it. There’s no such thing as a typical day at work for you. You’re a ball of energy, and you can’t stand to be doing the exact same thing every day for an extended amount of time. You would make a great event planner or choreographer.

Cancer

You’re super maternal and nurturing to everyone around you. You’re a loyal friend and would literally kick someone’s ass if they ever tried to mess with your family. And that’s the great thing about you. You harness a lot of emotions and wear your heart on your sleeve, but you’re protective of everyone you know, including yourself—which is why you can go from zero to 100 real quick if the opportunity presents itself. You have a future in education or social work.

Leo

Everything has to be about you, like, 99.9 percent of the time. You’re always the life of the party because you have a spirit that can literally change everyone’s mood. You also feel things pretty deeply, and you’re kind of melodramatic—not to mention that you always need people in your life who will look up to you and admire you for how hard you work. Your desire to be the center of attention is what will make you a great actor or actress. You might even have a future in reality TV.

Virgo

You share a zodiac sign with Beyoncé, so consider yourself lucky because you guys are pretty much the same person. While some people may act off of their emotions, everything you do is based on logic and rationality. You’re known for being a perfectionist, and you’re super detail-oriented. You analyze every project you start to the fullest extent before you even think about letting people see the finished product. You were born to be a writer or editor.

Libra

You’re charming AF. You know how to use what you’ve got to get what you want from people, but you also know how to do it in a friendly manner. You strive to make the people around you happy, and you always want people to feel like they’re a part of something. But sometimes you’re way too indecisive, which causes you to break in the face of making important decisions and just do what people want you to do. You're pretty much a natural when it comes to negotiating which is why you would make a great salesperson or real estate agent.

Scorpio

You’re independent, and you have no problem being the lone wolf. Your introverted nature is also what makes you so intense and hungry for power. Who needs a squad when you can just take over the world instead? You would do anything for a paycheck, and you don’t care how many people you piss off because of it. On top of that, you're also a great leader who would work best in a position of power that will make a big impact on the world. Your hunger for money and power would make you a great lawyer.

Sagittarius

You need to be in an adventurous environment that excites you and keeps people guessing. You’re honest, opinionated and you never hold back when it comes to doing what you love. You’d work best in a career that allows you to travel the world, meet new people and make decisions. You should consider a career in advertising or public relations.

So, are you ready to send in your resume? The next time you're in need of some career advice, consider what sign you were born under and you may just be surprised at what you find.

15 Reasons Every Girl Should Travel Solo

$
0
0

Despite the beautiful views and boast-worthy memories a female solo traveler may expect to encounter when traveling alone, traveling solo, especially as a woman has a daunting connotation. Critics of solo travel bring up safety concerns, language barriers, cultural inequities as reasons not to make the move on your own, but the truth is successful solo travel is worth the adversities. When a woman travels, particularly alone -- she is making a statement, one that says that she refuses to be associated with the stereotype of women as fragile and insecure. She is opening herself up to new experiences and opportunities -- she doesn’t travel to escape life, she travels so life doesn’t escape her.

1. Because life begins at the end of your comfort zone

Trying to navigate a metro in French or order food in Mandarin may not be something you’ve ever done before, and doing it alone may not seem like the ideal way to spend a vacation -- but putting yourself in a foreign environment, and doing it alone, is not only a confidence booster, but an eye-opening experience that reminds you there are so many people in the world with such varied lifestyles from your own. A truly humbling experience.

2. Because it scares you a little

Admit it. The thought of wandering a foreign city where you know nobody, especially if you’re unfamiliar with local customs, can be a terrifying move -- but that’s okay. As women, we often overthink and overplan instead of just letting the universe run its course -- but when we travel, its impossible to plan the small things, which is good, because it allows us to be a little scared of the unknown and nudge us out of our comfort zones.

3. Because you’re forced to make friends

Solo travel may seem like a very lonely endeavor, but in reality it gives you the opportunity to make friends with fellow travelers and locals alike. While women may be apprehensive to do this, there are many ways to meet other like-minded women in your travels, especially through travel group-meetup  (such as communities like Magpie) who are willing to show you around and tell you the best places to eat and sight-see.

4. Because you’ll gain street smarts

There is no doubt wandering a foreign city at night, especially alone, will teach you a thing or two.

5. Because it forces you to be decisive

Traveling is a game of decisions. Where to go, where to stay, what to do, what to eat -- for the indecisive girl who is looking for adventure, solo travel can be a life-changing experience.

6. Because it’ll give you self-validation

Nothing is more badass than coming back from a trip knowing that you did it all by yourself.

7. Because you’ll learn to appreciate the little things

Like air-conditioning, or free bathrooms. Yes, I’m serious.

8. Because you may literally get lost, but you’ll figuratively find yourself

Somehow in between misplacing your map and being unable to translate directions, you’ll realize this unparalleled experience has left you changed from before you boarded the plane. Travel brings you challenges and opportunities and lets you discover who you are in only a way such an experience could do.

9. Because you get to take advantage of travel Tinder, the best type of Tinder

Travel Tinder: AKA downloading Tinder while you’re traveling to meet fellow travelers, cute locals, temporary love interests or new friends who you wouldn’t have been able to meet otherwise. Best thing about using travel Tinder? You don’t have to feel guilty about ditching your friends to meet up with your Tinder dates.

10. Because you'll get to experience being your own boss

When you travel solo, you're the creator of your own itinerary, and you're the only person who gets to tell you what to do.

11. Because you’ll eat and drink what you want with little to no guilt

Dieting while traveling is pretty much non-existent, lets be real. On the bright side, you’ll be running, walking, and hiking too much to really feel bad about it.

12. Because you’ll learn the value of being alone

Being alone and feeling lonely are two completely different things. Learning how to spend quality time with yourself is a huge factor in your own self-worth, and solo travel forces you to do just that.

13. Because you’ll let go of your petty troubles

Trust me, you won’t care that he didn’t text you back when you’re in Iceland getting a picture perfect view of the Northern Lights.

14. Because the patriarchy tells you that you shouldn’t

The patriarchal society we operate in today fails to view women as spontaneous risk takers, but rather as fragile beings. When a woman travels alone, she shows the world that she is able to break out of her comfort zone to take initiative in engaging in new experiences -- take that, patriarchy.

15. Because you’ll truly learn to differentiate an adventure and a vacation

At the end of the day, its not about the color-block bikinis and pineapple drinks, its about the lessons learned and memories made.

15 Casual Breakdowns You'll Have During Finals Week, as told by Jennifer Lawrence

Even if Jennifer Lawrence didn't go to college, she knows the misery involved with finals week...because J. Law knows all. Here are some of her best reactions that we're all about to have in just a couple weeks.

1. Finding out how much stuff you really have to do.

Yeah, you definitely underestimated your evil professors.

2. You don't even know where to begin.

How does one study for this 18th-century British Literature class??

3. You realize you maybe skipped one too many classes.

These notes just really don't make any sense.

4. You start giving up.

You're so stressed that you just become calm and accept your fate.

5. You start getting distracted…

…and you start thinking about food.

6. You take your hunger out on your group project partners.

This sounds about accurate.

7. Then you must explain to them the many truths about life.

So, why can't this be on the final?

8. Once you get back on task, you're back to square one.

Where were we again?

9. And then you get scared again.

Like, really scared…

10. You are so worried about what your professor is going to do.

You start preparing for the worst.

11. And your reaction is ready…

You're preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.

12. You start studying and think you might finally have it together.

This ain't so bad!

13. You just need a little pep talk.

Fake it 'til you make it with confidence.

14. You show up to the exam still a little confused.

Is this multiple choice, short answer or essay format? Do I have to bring my own paper? Are we using scantrons? Why wasn't this on the syllabus?

15. But once the final is over…

You gotta do some of this to every random person you see in the hallway.

Finals are coming up any minute now. Happy studying, collegiettes!

Aries to Pisces: Your Complete Haircut Horoscope

$

0

Clueless when it comes to what you should be doing with your hair? Why not consult the stars? From fiery Aries to sassy Leos, we've got your back covered when it comes to your next hair appointment.

Aries - Pixie Cut

The ultimate cut for the ultimate edgy girl

A short, no-fuss haircut is perfect for people who are born as fiery Aries. While it can be low-maintenance, the pixie cut can be spiked or slicked back, just versatile and exciting enough for this eternal go-getter.

Taurus - Bedhead

Effortless and oh so cool

Taurus gals are known for being down to earth and easy to get along with, so what better way than to channel that into some tousled curls and Bardot-inspired bangs? Ask for a longer fringe at the stylist's to get a more sensual look—Taurus is a romantic after all!

Gemini - Sideswept Pixie

For the girl who keeps everyone guessing

Geminis are social butterflies and well known for being the daring trendsetter among their friends. With that said, Geminis are also highly famous for being capable of feeling ALL the feels, making the sideswept pixie perfect as the cut creates an energetic silhouette offset by a romantic fringe. Getting a pixie will lend extra drama to every Gemini's closet, which is exactly what they like.

Cancer - Shaggy Bob

A little extra fringe never hurt nobody

Cancers are artistic, sensitive souls with an eye for beauty. The shaggy bob has remained a staple haircut for years, and for good reason. It's a gorgeous look that can be styled into a crazy bed of waves or just brushed to frame your face. For the shy Cancer, this is also a great way to create a small but effective separation between you and the world when it all gets to be too much to handle.

Leo - Long, Sleek Bob

So clean, so fresh

Leos are natural born leaders, confident and ambitious. Because of these traits, a sleek and polished look suits their go-getter lifestyle and frames their faces in just the right way to show that Leos mean business. Ask for almost no layers to keep the hair sleek as can be. As for styling, comb through damp hair and use a smoothing cream after blow drying.

Virgo - Long Layers

Pure perfection

Virgos are the ultimate perfectionists, perhaps best known for pulling off immaculate style every day. When it comes to hair, Virgos are more than capable of picking up the challenge of maintaining long waves, which will bring a relaxed vibe into their look. Ask for layers around the face starting from your cheekbone area, and less layers at the back of your head.

Libra - Light Bangs and Long Waves

Your girl next door look made longer and sexier

Libras, like their scale symbol, are all about balance and tranquility. Long waves coupled with some light fringe keep Libras looking relaxed and refined, but don't compromise their charming persuasiveness. Make sure to keep your bangs minimal; a wisp is enough to complete the look without covering up your forehead

Scorpio - Long Pixie

Not quite a pixie, not quite a bob

The long pixie cut creates a bunch of layers that both frame and hide the face, which should satisfy Scorpios who tend to be mysterious and naturally wary. But don't worry; on days you're feeling particularly bold you can style the hair with a headband or maybe a braid.

Sagittarius - Short Waves

Easy and glam

A Sagittarius is always on the go, whether it's by car, train, or plane. She will need something that is easy to maintain, but that still matches her outfits when she's out having a good time (which, for Sagittarius, is always.)

Capricorn - Slicked Back Bob

For the cool girl who always has it together

Capricorns always manage to look dignified and strictly professional, so we'd like to see them mixing it up a little with this slicked back bob. While still beyond appropriate, this hairdo makes it easier for Capricorns to get crazy when going out.

Aquarius - Baby Bangs

Short and sweet

For Aquarius, independence is key. They are definitely not afraid to make a statement and stand out from the crowd when it comes to their personal style, so we propose that the Aquarius lady make a major change by getting short, short bangs. It makes the face look more youthful and brings out that Aquarius playfulness.

Pisces - Retro Bob

Sultry and ultra-feminine

A Pisces woman is typically quite feminine in both style and demeanor, so she will pull off a retro look like no other. Pisces are also described as otherworldly, so how appropriate is it for them to revive a '40s-era hair trend?

There we have it ladies; hair ideas for all personality types and star signs. Just remember that no matter your star sign, neither your zodiac nor your haircut can truly define you—but they just might make you feel more like yourself.

8 Sneaky Ways to Eat More Veggies

$
0
0

Let’s face it—veggies aren’t exactly the cool kids of the food world. The dreaded fear of anything green, leafy and nutritious you adopted at the age of five prevailed into adulthood, and now it’s harder than ever to force yourself to choose a salad over an 18-inch pepperoni pizza with extra cheese and stuffed crust. We feel your pain, collegiettes; that’s why we found tastier ways to tweak your favorite recipes and get your daily dose of vegetables!

Why veggies?

Vegetables provide essential nutrients, and they’re generally low in fat and calories while still being filling. The Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) interactive fruit and vegetable calculator suggests that the average 20-year-old female who is active for 30-60 minutes per day should eat three cups of vegetables every day. However, a study done by researchers at Oregon State University found that the average female college student consumes only four servings of fruit and vegetables per week and gets more than 30 percent of her calories from fat.

This means college students—collegiettes in particular—are missing out on essential nutrients. “Based on the CDC's 2012 Second Nutrition Report, women have lower nutritional biomarker levels of vitamin A, B6 and B12 compared to men,” says Brooke Schantz, a registered dietician. “Vitamin A is needed for vision, gene transcription, immune function, etc.”

How do I get the nutrients I need?

Whether fresh or frozen, there are plenty of veggies that can satisfy your daily quota. “There are so many options to choose from in the freezer section for vegetables nowadays,” Schantz says. “These options are a great way to add vegetables to your lunch or dinner in just five minutes or less.”

Although veggies raw or on their own is a great way to fulfill your daily serving of vegetables, there are still many of us who just simply don’t have a taste for them. The solution? Compromise by sneaking them into your everyday favorite meals! These eight recipes are so delicious, you won’t even realize you’re eating hidden vegetables.

'Athleisure' Has Been Added to the Dictionary

$

Wearing leggings to run errands (... or just every day) is nothing new to us—we've all been doing it for as long as we remember. It doesn't matter whether we're going to the gym or we're stuck in the library all day, leggings, yoga pants, joggers and the like are always preferable to skinny jeans. Fortunately, the trend has just surfaced as a high-fashion look, now termed "athleisure." And finally, the world is validating our choice of comfort over just about anything else—"athleisure" has just been added to the dictionary.

In a recent blog post, Merriam-Webster shared a list of new terms that have been added to their unabridged dictionary, including "athleisure." Merriam-Webster also pointed out that adding "athleisure" to the vernacular was no snap decision. In fact, tons of planning and research went into their choice. "The new entries and senses offer a kind of snapshot of how exactly our language expands. It doesn’t happen quickly—we monitored many of these words for years before they’d met our criteria for entry—and it’s pushed by various fields and endeavors," they explained.

While it seems like athleisure has only recently become a major fashion trend, the term was actually coined decades ago—1976 to be exact! Aside from "athleisure," the dictionary has also added another familiar fashion term: "fit and flare." All in all, we're just thrilled that athleisure is finally getting the societal acceptance that it deserves.

Having a wide-open summer can be a bit of a bummer—but it can also be a blessing! Don’t fret about not having a booked and busy few months because there are tons of ways to spend your free time. We got the lowdown from collegiettes on how they’ve spent past summers so you can start making plans!

1. Travel

Who doesn’t want to take a dream Eurotrip or the classic American road trip? If you’ve had traveling on your mind, a plan-free summer is the perfect time to go through with it. Take advantage of your free time and book that hotel, buy those flights or pack up the car for the trip of a lifetime.

Rachael McCulloch, a third-year student at Carleton University, spent last summer on a French exchange program in Quebec. While she was a bit hesitant at first, she decided to give it a try. “I wanted the opportunity to travel while still earning course credits, and I'm so glad I did!” says Rachael. “The trip was a much-needed step outside of my hometown and comfort zone. I definitely recommend combining travel with learning for anyone who has the chance!"

Chelsea Schroeder, a freshman at Bowling Green State University, also recommends spending the summer traveling—but it doesn’t necessarily have to be a long trip. “I would definitely say just go [on] small, spontaneous road trips a few hours away,” says Chelsea. “It's the most fun when you have no idea what your exact plans are!”

Whether you plan a long, faraway journey or a simple, spontaneous trip, summer can be the perfect time to set out and explore. If you have a few weeks (or even a few days), consider spending your free time exploring a new place!

2. Learn something new

Whether you take a class at the local community college, sign up to barista at your favorite coffee shop or just stay in and finally teach yourself how to French braid, that chunk of free time this summer can be a great opportunity to learn something new. We know that summer is probably your sacred time away from school, but there’s so much more you can learn outside of your university.

“The summer before I went abroad, I brushed up on my Spanish,” says Alex Watson, a senior at New York University. “When I came home from my summer job, I’d use Rosetta Stone and an app called Duolingo to practice my speaking. It was a great use of my free time and it really came in handy when I was abroad.”

If you’ve always wanted to learn about a certain subject or specific skill, take advantage of these next few months to do so! Sign up for a class, download an app or reach out to someone in your industry and pick up a few new skills this summer.

3. Volunteer

If you’ve ever wanted to contribute to an organization you love but haven’t had the time, now’s your chance! Consider using your freedom this summer to volunteer at an organization near you. Think about helping out at your local Humane Society, lending a hand at a soup kitchen or volunteering during a race that donates to a cause you’re interested in.

If you’re thinking about volunteering but don’t know where to start, consider using a resource like VolunteerMatch. You can plug in where you are and what interests you, and the site will generate opportunities near you. Time to get volunteering!

4. Try something you’ve always wanted to

Summer is a time to be spontaneous, so why not try something you’ve always wanted to? If you’ve been longing to try something out or cross something off your bucket list, maybe now is your chance!

Olivia Shaw, a senior at UNC Greensboro, finally decided to get a tattoo last summer. “I'd been wanting to get a dove tattoo on my forearm for three years, and I finally just walked into a tattoo parlor and did it one day,” she says. “I was nervous, but it felt so amazing to check something off my bucket list! I think summer is the perfect time to gather your courage and do something you've wanted to do for a while. It definitely makes your summer more memorable.”

If there’s something on your bucket list that has been on there for a while, maybe it’s about time to check it off! If you’ve always wanted to get into photography, buy a camera. Always wanted to get your first aid certification? Take a class. Take advantage of this time and do something you’ve been considering for a while.

5. Catch up on reading

Many of us collegiettes wish we had the time for some pleasure reading, but let’s be honest—we’d rather spend it on Netflix. If you’ve got a few free months this summer, consider spending some of it catching up on your reading list.

“As a grad student, I have A LOT of assigned readings and, sometimes, the best I can do is skim the not-so-urgent ones,” says Sydnee Lyons, a first-year graduate student at Florida Atlantic University. “So, I like to keep a running list of the readings that looked really interesting to me but that I didn't get to spend enough time with and go back to them during the summer months off—at my own pace and at the beach,” she says.

Whether it’s for fun or for work, think about spending your extra time catching up on the reading you’ve let build up over the past year or so. We’re all guilty of putting it off, so summer is the perfect time to play catch up!

6. Take up a new job or internship

If you’ve spent past summers relaxing on the beach and soaking up the glory of three months with no responsibilities, it can be hard to bring yourself to get a job instead. But summer is an awesome time of year to try out a new job and boost your resume.

“The summer between my sophomore and junior year, I decided to stay in the city and try a new internship,” says Alex. “Normally I’d go home for the summer, and usually I’m too busy during the school year to do an internship, so it turned out to be the perfect opportunity. It was great to learn more about my field, make a little money, and avoid the boredom of home!”

If you lack the time for a job or internship during the semester, consider using your summer to take one on. Learn something new about your field, make a little money and get a new experience!

7. Stay at school

Sure, summer and school don’t mix well in our minds—but why not?

Spending your summer on campus means many opportunities and benefits. Many college campuses transform for the summer. For example, Harvard, American University and Boston University—among many other schools—offer programs for high school students. So if you’re looking to make a little money and stay on campus, consider signing up to supervise! Check out what your school does during the summer and see if you can get involved.

Moreover, summertime can be a great opportunity to catch up on classes and get ahead in your academic career. Oftentimes, colleges offer a different curriculum during the summer, so see if there are any classes you’re interested in taking. And if you’re looking to get ahead or graduate early, see what requirements you can knock off your plate!

While you may have booked your past summers with plans to the brim, it’s not so bad to have a completely plan-free summer once in a while. A free summer gives you the time to try new things, explore and relax. If you’re trying to fill up your summer months, consider taking these collegiettes’ advice!

What You & Your Friends Are Like During Finals, as told by the Harry Potter Trio

Finals week: two words that make thousands of college students across the country shudder in fear. When you think about it, though, finals are nothing compared to all of the sh*t Harry, Ron and Hermione faced throughout their time at Hogwarts. There's no trio better to represent how you and your friends act throughout finals, as shown here:

When the teacher says the final is cumulative:

Rollin’ up to the library with your squad like:

Looking over your study-guide and realizing you have retained approximately zero information:

When you realize how unprepared your friend is:

And you decide that scaring her about the exam is much more productive than studying:

When you get to teach her and pretend you actually know what you're talking about:

And having to deal with that one friend that just stresses everyone out more:

When your study buddies won’t stop talking when you're trying to focus:

And you finally lose your sh*t because you actually have to study:

And you have to hide from the librarian when she comes over to yell at you:

When you find out that your friend invited that annoying girl in your bio class to study with you guys:

And she shows off how much better prepared she is than you are:

Going to office hours to ask that crazy professor a question:

When your mom calls and asks if you're ready for your exams:

When you realize the inevitability of pulling an all-nighter:

And you and your friends are forced to come up with creative ways to stay awake:

And as 5 a.m approaches you are positively delusional:

When you shame your friend for watching Netflix instead of studying:

And you can't help but express your concern:

And you end up taking your stress out on each other:

Or when she decides she’s just better off trying to cheat:

When you have to quiz your friend on a topic you know they’re bad at:

Even though they’re like:

When you have food delivered but the stress don’t stop:

When someone discovers that something is on the exam that you guys were not expecting:

And you think you might literally be sick:

Giving each other a pep talk the morning of your exam like:

When no matter how poorly you think you did, when you’re finally done:

20 Signs You're About to Graduate

$

As hard as we may pretend that it isn't happening, graduation is coming—and it's coming fast. The big day is just around the corner, and it has somehow taken control of everything we do, feel and think. Whatever your plans may be for when the day finally arrives, here are a few signs that you're one of many collegiettes about to take the "under" out of "undergraduates."

Every person you come in contact with asks you, "Are you ready to graduate?"

Followed, of course, by the dreaded: "So, what are your plans after graduation?"

It takes all of your willpower not to scream in response, and you sort of hate everyone who asks them.

You now spend hours updating your resume and LinkedIn, trying desperately to make yourself look like the most appealing potential employee on the market.

The time you used to spend going out and binge-watching Netflix is now almost entirely spent applying to every job opening you can find.

Remember back when your student loan debt was just a distant, vague worry for "Future You" to figure out? And how you just realized you'll have to start paying them in six months? Yeah.

So now here you are, strictly watching your spending and putting together payment plans.

Well… When you aren't out celebrating being so close to graduation with your friends, that is.

"Senioritis," by the way, is totally real. When's the last time you went to class?

Or checked your grades?

The closer you get to graduation, the more freaked out you get about your future.

And you are SO envious of your friends who already have their post-grad plans all figured out.

Thank goodness you have your other friends (who also don't have it figured out yet) to comfort you.

You remind yourself how great you are and how much you've learned in college. You know you're going to be okay.

You have sudden mood swings, specifically when you get excited about how many different things you could do if you wanted to. The world is your oyster! You can be anything you want to be!

You remind yourself that you've made it through four years of challenging undergraduate coursework. You made it through internships and campus jobs and dorm life and dining hall food. You're amazing!

Yes, you're a little stressed.

But you're also SO excited!

Graduation is happening! To you! Finally!

Take a deep breath and celebrate your achievements. Congratulations, grad!

How She Got There: Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line

Name: Christine Duffy
Job Title and Description: President of Carnival Cruise Line; Founder of Meeting Professionals International Women's Leadership Initiative

What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?

Christine Duffy: I don’t think there is such a thing as a typical day. It’s one of the things that I like most about my job—that it is different every day. It’s definitely 24/7 with 24 ships in our fleet and another one under construction. It certainly keeps me busy.

What is the best part of your job?

CD: I think what I love best is actually going on board on our ships and spending time with our crew members and our guests on board. Really seeing the impact that a great vacation has on people. I mean, really the passion and joy our team members have being the ones able to deliver such memorable experiences to our guests. We have something that we talk about as “positive surprises.” It’s about, how do we surprise people—delight them and exceed their expectations? I have to say, being on board and watching that in action is really the best part of my job.

What inspired you to found the Meeting Professionals International Women's Leadership Initiative?

CD: For me, it was interesting that women are the majority of workers in the travel industry—certainly more broadly than cruise or meeting and conference professionals, but overall women are the majority workers in travel. Yet, when I was very involved in corporate meeting and convention planning [and] served on a number of industry boards, I quickly noticed that there were very few women that actually served on those boards or really, few women who were in senior level positions at the time—whether you looked at hotel, cruise or airline. There were lots of women entrepreneurs but not many women in senior level organizations. So, I really wanted to set about understanding why that was and seeing what we could do to promote a network and provide women with those opportunities who were interested in seeking them.

What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?

CD: I keep making the same mistake over and over so sometimes I wonder how much I do learn from it. I probably don’t have as much patience as I should. Part of me believes that’s a good thing in my role, but as I’ve taken on leadership in larger and larger organizations over my career, sometimes you believe that you’ve made a decision and everyone’s on board, and you check back only to find things haven’t really progressed as you’d expect. It’s really this issue of balancing expectations and making sure that you follow up and don’t take anything for granted. A lot of times, silence doesn’t always mean consent. It’s worth taking time to make sure people are truly aligned, committed and that there’s great clarity in terms of expectation and who has the ball, who’s responsible and accountable versus those who may be sitting around the table agreeing with the decision but don’t really have their skin in the game.

What advice would you give to a 20-something with similar aspirations?

CD: One of the things I see repeatedly in the generation that’s coming out of school today, and this includes my own children—[they] are really focused on how do they get to the senior levels? They’re very focused on what steps they need to take and what position or title they should have at a certain point otherwise they feel they’re not being recognized or they’re not succeeding or meeting their own objectives. My main advice is you should mainly focus on doing what you love, doing the very best job in the role you’re playing today and being more open to the fact that a career is very much a journey—much like life. Sometimes, you may have to move lateral or even backwards to get ahead. So, this idea of a very linear career ladder, I think really is not consistent with the way businesses are operating today and I would encourage people to really take a step back and focus on each step that you have in front of you, and probably to have a bit more patience and appreciation for things that you can learn sometimes by moving in a different direction than you may have anticipated or thought was the best move for you.

What has been the most surreal moment of your career thus far?

CD: I think, for me being in the travel industry for over 30 years now, it’s been an amazing journey. If anyone would’ve told me when I started my career that one day I’d be President of Carnival Cruise Line, I really couldn’t have imagined that. My best advice is just really stay open to what opportunities show up because they are often those that are least expected.

How to Make Money With a Side Hustle

You’ve put in the time, hard work and stress from four years of college, and you finally landed your first full time job! Perhaps you have some free-time in between your 9-to-5 that you’re looking to fill. Maybe your starting salary isn’t quite what you would have hoped, and you’re dreading student loans. Or maybe you’ve found yourself in a not-so-fulfilling entry-level job and you’re looking for a creative outlet.

We’ve got you covered with a handful of ways to side hustle, all while getting paid:

Related: 4 Reasons Why Having a Side Hustle Can Actually Advance Your Career

1. Freelance Writing

One of the most obvious and popular side gigs is freelance writing. Whether your full-time job is already in the editorial world or not, writing is a great way to build an online portfolio of work, and is a key skill that is needed in a majority of industries.

Not all writing gigs are paid, but if you do your research, you can find news sites looking for paid writers, such as ATTN: and Inc.. The topics you can write about are endless: hard news, entertainment, lifestyle, op-eds, you name it! However, writing doesn’t end at traditional online or print publications—you can lend your skills to marketing and advertising companies looking for copywriters as well. Some of the best sites to get started finding work include Freelancer and Upwork.

This is a side job that can be done completely from the comfort of your own home and allows you to make your own schedule (just as long as you can handle deadlines!). Once you complete a few assignments, you can put together your own website to showcase your work to the public. Some of the best sites for easy portfolio creation include Squarespace and Wordpress.

2. Photography

Is your Instagram profile top-notch? Were you the friend who took photos of every noteworthy event in college with a professional-quality camera? Maybe you can get paid for it.

There are many reasons people need to have professional photos taken. You can capture headshots for aspiring actors or LinkedIn profile pictures for business professionals. Once you start building a portfolio, you can take pictures at events in your area or at family gatherings.

Stephanie Page, a 2012 graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, embraced her talent for the visual arts. While balancing a 9-to-5 job as a television producer with a side job as a professional photographer, she says, “I quickly learned that if you’re going to spend the majority of your days working, it’s imperative to love what you do. At times, I may have 70 hour work weeks, but I have never dreaded an hour of work in my life.” While she’s very passionate about her full-time job and notes that it has provided her stability, she has also found a way to turn one of her hobbies, photography, into a side job and a second source of income.

3. Babysitting/Nannying

Who says the only side hustles out there are in the creative fields? Babysitting is a great way to make some extra cash, because the hours typically change every week/month, giving you some flexibility. Plus, who wouldn’t want to play with kids for hours and watch the Disney Channel? Babysitting is a big responsibility that should be taken seriously, but if placed with a great family, it can be a fun and rewarding experience.

Marisa Shapiro, a 2013 graduate of Tufts University, describes her positive experience working part-time as a nanny, saying, “I love it because the hours are super flexible. I use Care.com, so I can respond to the families I want to, and families can reach out to me easily. Plus the kids sometimes make me art, which is adorable!”

4. Fitness/Dance Instruction

Were you extremely active in high school or college? Ever taken a SoulCycle class and imagined yourself as the instructor? Getting certified as a fitness or dance instructor not only helps those in your class, but has obvious benefits for you as well!

Saniya Waghray, a 2015 graduate of Babson College, balances a full-time job at Walt Disney Studios (job goals!) with a Bollywood teaching gig in her spare time. In order to prepare, she became certified in Zumba, and notes that the training helped her with the fitness aspect of dance classes. She says, “I started doing it because I really wanted something to keep me grounded and sane while everything else was changing in my life, like moving across the country and starting a new job. Dance has been a constant for me my whole life, and I especially love Bollywood."

5. Job/Resume Coaching

You went through the process of perfecting your resume and applying for internships and jobs yourself—maybe you have some advice to impart onto others! If you were the friend in college who looked over other people's resumes and cover letters to check for formatting and grammar, consider starting a side business where you can get paid for it.

Sarah Sax, a 2014 graduate of the University of Southern California, started a side business right out of college, helping people with their resumes, cover letters and LinkedIn profiles, called Write for The Job. She says, "My journalism background [in college], which trained me to write clearly and succinctly, enabled me to help my friends include personality and originality in their resumes. I love writing about other people and having their individual stories be reflected in their professional materials." Regarding how she finds time to put into this job, she says, "Balancing it with my full time job isn't difficult because I am careful with how many clients I take on per week. Doing this allows me to deliver quality results to all of my clients."

6. Food/Retail Industry Jobs

Working in a bar/restaurant or retail clothing store is a great option for making some extra cash, because oftentimes managers are understanding of your schedule and can provide part-time opportunities to work on nights and weekends.

Rebecca Cuthbertson, a 2013 graduate of Hofstra University, reflects on her positive experience working part-time as a barista at Starbucks and the skills she gained from that job. She says, "[Starbucks] values soft skills in their employees, like customer service and using their experience to make someone's day just a bit brighter. The most important thing I took away from that experience was to talk to your managers/supervisors. They are there to support, help, and guide you. That has been integral for me in the past and no doubt will continue to be as I look to further my career in the food and beverage industry."

7. Unpaid Side Hustles

While most of the ideas above can help you make some extra cash, there’s no question that any side project or hobby, even one that’s NOT paid, can add great benefits to your life. An unpaid activity may allow you to gain experience to boost your resume, build contacts and help you explore your different passions. Some examples include blogging on a personal website, joining an organization in your area such as a college alumni club, volunteering for a non-profit on the weekends and taking classes online or in person to increase your skills in a certain area.

In a Forbes article discussing how to find purpose in your 20s, career coach Ashley Stahl (watch her TED talk!) notes some of the benefits of pursuing a side job, saying, "...creating a side hustle is a great way to dip your toe into new opportunities without quitting [your job] ... In fact, one in three millennials already have their side gig up and running and are reaping the benefits, and the freelance industry is more robust than ever."

There is no doubt that juggling a side job with one that is full time can be extremely time consuming, and you may find yourself sacrificing some happy hours and other social gatherings in your life. However, with focus and a clear goal in mind, they can provide you financial stability and bring you that much closer to your career and life goals.

Tamir Rice's Family Will Receive $6 Million Settlement

In November 2014, 12-year-old Tamir Rice was shot and killed by a Cleveland police officer as he played with a toy gun. The disturbing shooting sparked outrage and a wrongful death suit from Rice’s family. The officer wasn’t indicted, but Rice’s family will receive a $6 million settlement from the city of Cleveland, according to The New York Times.

Cleveland does not admit any wrongdoing by paying this settlement—And in paying it, they’ll avoid entering into a long trial which would draw out the case. If city were found guilty at trial, they would potentially be ordered to pay much more than $6 million.

“In a situation like this, there’s no such thing as closure or justice,” the Rice family’s lawyers, Jonathan S. Abady and Earl S. Ward, said in a statement, according to the Times. “Nothing will bring Tamir back. His unnecessary and premature death leaves a gaping hole for those who knew and loved him that can never be filled.”

Cleveland.com reports that the city will have to pay half of the settlement this year, and half next year.

13 Life Hacks Every Girl Should Know

$

We get it: being a girl can be hard sometimes. Whether your apartment feels totally disorganized or you need help removing a deodorant stain, these life hacks have got you covered! Every collegiette needs these simple yet extremely helpful tips and tricks to make things easier.

1. Remove wine stains using more wine.

You read that right—you can remove red wine stains by using white wine! The white wine neutralizes the color of the red wine on your shirt, which allows the stain to be removed much more easily using traditional methods.

2. Organize your makeup stash on a magnetic board.

This super easy idea allows you to easily organize and stick your makeup all to a magnetic board on your wall either in your dorm room or bathroom. Just hot glue magnets to the back of your products, then attach them to the magnetic board for easy storage. You'll never be stuck searching for your mascara again!

3. Use straws to keep necklaces from getting tangled.

There is nothing worse than picking out an outfit and realizing that the necklace you wanted to wear with it is all knotted up. Save yourself some time and frustration by pulling a straw through the chain of your necklace when you store it, so you'll never have to untangle your jewelry again.

4. Remove deodorant stains with dryer sheets.

It's so frustrating to pull on a black top, then realize you got deodorant stains on your shirt! Thankfully, there's a solution: you can rub a dryer sheet in circular motions to absorb the deodorant stain. Bonus: your shirt will smell extra good!

5. Use pool noodles or rolled up magazines to stand boots upright in your closet.

It can be difficult to make use of your small closet space when your tall boots are falling all over each other! Solution: cut pool noodles and put them in your boots for support. This way, your boots can stand upright and take up less space!

6. Put baking soda in your shoes to disinfect and remove odor.

We all know that awful smell that comes with wearing your super cute ballet flats without any socks! The challenging of removing that smell may seem almost impossible—but trust us, it's not. Putting just a little bit of baking soda into a little breathable baggie, then placing that baggie inside of your shoes after wearing will help remove that smell and disinfect them. You're welcome.

7. Clean up your mascara wand under hot water.

Clumpy mascara just isn't cute, and that's what tends to happen when the bristles of your wand get tangled and squished together. Most people would just throw away their mascara at this point and buy a new one—but you don't have to! You can put an end to clumpy mascara but running your wand under hot water, and then drying it off with a paper towel before the next use.

8. Hang purses in your closet with shower curtain hooks.

This allows for easy storage and maximizing what little space you do have, especially in a college dorm room. The shower hooks are small and take up so little space—and bonus, you can see all of your purses at once instead of sifting through a pile of them on the floor!

9. Instead of bandages, use duct tape to cover a blister.

After a night out in heels, blisters can be so painful. Bandages tend to slip off easily, but duct tape doesn't; it will keep the blister closed off and secure. Duct tape is also thicker than a bandage and provides more coverage.

10. Use arm weights while you blow dry or style your hair for a quick workout.

You spend so much time lifting your arms up and down while styling your hair, so adding a little extra weight only increases the significance of your workout. Who knew doing your hair could count as exercise?

11. Mark up a water bottle to help you stay hydrated every day.

A clear reusable water bottle can be marked up with measurements to make sure you are staying hydrated every day! You can use the bottle to set goals for how much water you should be drinking by what time of the day. See the example above for inspiration!

12. Whiten your teeth with a banana peel.

Banana peels have been proven to significantly lighten teeth within a few weeks. Just rub a banana peel in circular motions on your teeth for a few minutes every day! Although this may seem unorthodox, using this method, you avoid extra chemicals like the ones you would find in typical teeth whiteners.

13. Keep your bobby pins in one place using an empty Tic Tac container.

Once you finish all of your Tic Tacs, don't throw away the empty container! Instead, you can use it to store all of your bobby pins so that they're all kept safely in one place instead of disappearing all over your bedroom. You can even decorate the container using a gold sharpie, like the example above, to make this DIY both convenient and cute!

Joe Jonas Is Not Happy About Ex Gigi Hadid's Relationship With Zayn Malik

We were all surprised when Gigi Hadid started dating Zayn Malik, but no one was more surprised than Hadid's ex, Joe Jonas. The couple had only been dating for five months before they broke up and within weeks, she had moved on to Malik. Jonas was understandably upset, deleting pictures he had with Hadid from his social media accounts, but he remained tight-lipped about the whole ordeal. Now, in an interview with the Daily Mirror, the DNCE frontman is speaking out about what went wrong.

While Jonas doesn't directly call out his ex, his statement confirms what we were all thinking. "I think it's interesting that she moved on so quickly," Jonas said. "I mean, it was definitely very quick."

After news broke that Hadid left Jonas for Malik, fans began making comparisons between the two former boy band members. But Jonas isn't very fond of the comparison. “It’s comical that I’m compared to him. That dude and I have been compared for years, I think it’s just funny." He's not a very big fan of Malik to begin with. "To be honest I haven’t really listened to his music, but he can sing well.”

Jonas makes it clear that he's not concerned with his previous relationship, or any relationship for that matter. “I’m just focused on the band now and what I’m doing with the music.”

Unless you've been off the Internet since Saturday, you've most likely watched, or at least heard about, Beyoncé's visual album Lemonade. The videography was unbelievable and the music was incredible, as expected, but here are 15 of the most surprising moments we still can't get over.

1. "Pray You Catch Me"

The film opens with Beyoncé kneeling on a stage singing, “You can taste the dishonesty, it’s all over your breath.” Within minutes, we're left wondering what the hell Jay Z did to Beyoncé and what else she's going to reveal in the rest of the videos.

2. Beyoncé craziness in "Hold Up"

Most of us have had a point in our lives where we’ve been wronged by our partner and have asked, “What’s worse, looking jealous or crazy?” Well, Beyoncé gives us the answer as she swings a baseball bat into cars and store windows: “I’d rather be crazy.”

3. When we realized that when Beyoncé said she had hot sauce in her bag, she wasn’t talking about a condiment…

Mind. Blown.

4. The sample of Malcolm X’s speech

In "Don't Hurt Yourself," Beyoncé includes a clip from Malcolm X's iconic 1962 speech, in which he says, “The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman.”

5. When Beyoncé calls out Jay Z in "Don't Hurt Yourself"

"Don't Hurt Yourself" seemed like an attack on her husband in its entirety, but the last lines of the song made it clear: “This is your final warning, you know I give you life. If you try this shit again, you gon lose your wife.” And then she proceeded to throw her wedding ring at the camera. Yikes.

6. When "Sorry" became our anthem

In the lead-up to the "Sorry" video, Beyoncé says, “Ashes to ashes, dust to side chicks,” revealing that she's singing about Jay Z's unfaithfulness. To make the point even more clear, she sings, "Middle fingers up, put them hands high
. Wave it in his face, tell him, 'boy, bye.'” No doubt we'll all be doing this the next time a boy does us wrong.

7. Serena Williams's cameo

Beyoncé sits in this throne-like seat in a way that recreates Williams’s Sports Illustrated cover, which received major backlash for supposedly being too sexual. Williams is seen unapologetically twerking and owning her body in a society that has shamed her, and other black women, for it.

8. When she calls out “Becky with the good hair"

Beyoncé ends "Sorry" with the line, "He better go call Becky with the good hair." Shortly after, Rachel Roy (who is rumored to have been the reason behind the infamous Solange and Jay Z elevator fight) posted a picture on Instagram captioned, "good hair don't care," basically admitting she's the girl Beyoncé was singing about. Well, fans took care of that quickly, as Roy's account is now private.

9. The tribute to the antebellum South

From her style to the country vibe of her song "Daddy Lessons," Beyoncé takes us back to antebellum New Orleans as a tribute to her heritage.

10. When Beyoncé featured Jay Z in a video and we were all confused

After calling out Jay Z for infidelity in the first half of the HBO special, in an surprising turn of events, Beyoncé featured her husband in the video for the song "Sandcastles." The song is emotional and showcases both of their vulnerablity. Singing the words, “Show me your scars and I won’t walk away,” Beyoncé seems to be saying that she is willing to forgive her partner for his past wrongdoing.

11. The dedication to victims of police brutality

In the video for the song "Forward," there are scenes of Lesley McSpadden, Sybrina Fulton and Gwen Carr holding photographs of Mike Brown, Trayvon Martin and Eric Garner—their sons who were killed by police. The moment was memorable in the most heartbreaking way, reminding viewers that even as the years have passed black lives still matter.

12. The feature of young black celebrities in "Freedom"

As if the song wasn't already great enough as a collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, the video featured Amandla Stenberg and Zendaya, two celebrities who have used their platform to speak on their identity and experiences as black teens. Their appearance is coupled with the lyrics, “I break chains all by myself, won't let my freedom rot in hell. I'ma keep running cause a winner don’t quit on themselves.”

13. The touching quote from Jay Z's grandmother

In the final chapter, "Redemption," Beyoncé includes a clip of Jay Z's grandmother Hattie saying, "I’ve had my ups and downs, but I always find the inner strength to pull myself up. I was served lemons, but I made lemonade."

Beyoncé goes on to say, "My grandma said, nothing real can be threatened. True love brought salvation back into me. With every tear came redemption. And my torturer became my remedy. So we're going to heal, we're going to start again."

14. The adorable clips from Beyoncé and Jay Z's home videos

In between scenes, the film featured cutaways to home videos of Beyoncé and her family. One clip was from the couple's April 2008 wedding, which showed the two kissing. Other clips showed the pair getting matching "IV" tattoos on their ring fingers as well as celebrating Blue Ivy's birthday during an intimate party. All of these home videos, in addition to Bey's lyrics in "All Night," seem to prove they have overcome any issues that may have occurred in the past.

15. "Formation"

Beyoncé ends the film with "Formation," which we've already heard and loved, embracing and reaffirming black girl magic.

Overall, Lemonade tells the complex story of black womanhood. From Intuition to Denial, Anger, Apathy, Accountability, Reformation, Forgiveness, Emptiness, and finally Redemption, Beyoncé takes us on a journey with her in the most artistically beautiful way. What were your favorite moments from Lemonade?
