Ben & Jerry's Finally Has Vegan and Dairy-Free Flavors

$

Eating vegan or being lactose intolerant shouldn't mean that you don't get dessert. Access to ice cream should be a human right!

Well, Ben & Jerry's agrees with us, and the frozen vegan dessert world just became a lot more beautiful. For nearly a year the company has been talking about making these products, and now they’ve finally announced it to the public. And they aren’t giving us just one flavor, but four! This news couldn't have come soon enough—USA Today reports that last year, 28,400 people signed a change.org petition asking Ben & Jerry's to create dairy-free flavors.

These new flavors include a vegan take on two classic favorites, Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Chunky Monkey, as well as the brand new Coffee Caramel Fudge and PB & Cookies. They’ve basically created a dairy-free heaven in which we can finally eat all the ice cream we want without feeling bad, physically or emotionally.

Ben & Jerry’s has teamed up with Vegan Action and Greyston Bakery to provide vegan certified flavors while exclusively using fairtrade ingredients to bring us this lovely dessert without any any animal products. Don’t worry about losing the rich, creamy feeling that comes with eating ice cream, since each pint is made with almond milk to preserve that yummy flavor we love so much. They’ve managed to think of everything—Even the brownies in the Chocolate Fudge Brownie are vegan!

These dairy-free treats are absolutely drool worthy. Which flavor are you most excited for?

This College Student Was Body-Shamed at Work for Not Being 'Model Material'

Body-shame a lovely young woman in this age of social media, and she will make sure everyone knows about it.

Sherene Zarrabi, a college senior at Oklahoma State University, was shamed by her boss for not being “model material," aka not being a size small, according to Cosmopolitan. While working at the boutique Dainty Hooligan, Sherene promoted some of the clothing by posting pictures of herself on the shop’s Instagram. The last thing she was expecting to receive was an email forwarded by her manager from the company’s CEO, Jessica Issler, in which she blatantly insulted Sherene’s body.

“Something I want to make sure you keep in mind,” Issler wrote, “I want size small, the stereotypical 'model' type to model our clothes.” She also removed all of Zarrabi’s photos from the store’s Instagram page.

Following the attack, Zarrabi promptly quit her job and took the issue to Facebook.

This is an email I was forwarded earlier. I just want to start by saying this: I am fully comfortable with who I am and...

Posted by Sherene Marie Zarrabi on Monday, February 1, 2016

Despite this post being shared thousands of times, Issler continued to defend her actions. She informed The O’Colly, Oklahoma State's newspaper, “My No. 1 priority is the safety of my staff, so the evil and lack of positivity is terrifying. This girl has now created a hostile work environment because she has a sad body image of herself.”

Not sure what Issler is referring to when she says "evil," and it really seems like she's the one with a "lack of positivity" as she's hating on another person's body, but whatever. Issler later gave Zarrabi a halfhearted apology, but Zarabi stands by her reaction.

“I am proud of myself for quitting,” Zarrabi told The O'Colly. “What I really want is for young girls, like my sister, to know that you don’t have to be a certain size to be beautiful. I wouldn’t have posted the pictures if I wasn’t confident in myself. Her comments just prove that she’ll say anything to make herself look better.”

Ryan Reynolds Races to Defend His Daughter After This Reporter Insults Her

Ryan Reynolds is usually tight-lipped when it comes to the topic of his 18-month old daughter, but he recently spoke out to defend her gender-neutral name, James—a tribute to Reynolds’s late father.

The actor, on a press tour for his upcoming film Deadpool, spoke to ITV’s Good Morning Britain, where one of the co-hosts called the child’s conventionally boyish name an “unusual choice.” Reynolds quipped, "I feel like we're not breaking any new ground here. I mean, I didn't call her Summer Squash Meadow Lark or something."

They certainly are not breaking new ground. It’s the 21st century—gender-neutral names are nothing new. Blake and Ryan are both gender-neutral names as well, so their child’s name only seems fitting. We’ve come across children with far more questionable names (maybe not Summer Squash Meadow Lark, though). Is it really an issue that a female was given a traditionally masculine name?

Our respect goes out to Reynolds and Lively for raising their daughter to NOT conform to the gender binary. Though we see nothing wrong with traditional or non gender-neutral monikers, Blake and Ryan are definitely teaching James that nothing stands between boys and girls, not even their names.

Brown University Changes Columbus Day to Indigenous People's Day

Every year Columbus Day, usually celebrated on the second Monday of October, sparks a series of debates questioning whether Christopher Columbus (the Italian explorer who our grade school teachers all claimed discovered America) is even worth celebrating at all. So it comes as no surprise that in 2016, multiple cities and states across the country have finally taken the initiative to rename the holiday. Brown University happens to be the latest institution to join in.

On Tuesday, faculty at Brown University voted to rename the holiday Indigenous People's Day.

"Today a majority of faculty present at the monthly faculty meeting voted to support this proposal by amending the Faculty Rules and Regulations, designating the second Monday of October as Indigenous People's Day," said Thomas Roberts, professor of biology and evolutionary biology, in a statement.

The university had been referring to the holiday as Fall Weekend since 2009, when a student group, Native Americans at Brown (NAB), called for the switch. This past October, the same group called for another name change. NAB argued that renaming the holiday "would recognize the contributions of Indigenous People/Native Americans to our community and our culture and foster a more inclusive community," according to Brown's website.

Boston.com claims that Fall Weekend satisfied students for a few years until they launched a petition, which has garnered over 1,000 signatures, demanding further action from the university.

"We are formally requesting that the university vote to make this change to promote the on-campus visibility of the resistance and resilience of Native peoples and Native students on Brown's campus against the continued attempts at disempowerment, disenfranchisement, erasuere, and genocide that began with the arrival of Christoper Columbus," the petition reads. "Although the current name of the holiday, 'Fall Weekend,' halts the active celebration of Columbus' torture and genocide and the dawn of the transatlantic slave trade, this is the bare minimum that Brown University can do."

While voting on the name change, university faculty had a meeting to discuss the goals of NAB in regards to the change, which included increasing the visibility of Native American students on campus as well as recongnizing and celebrating the accomplishments of Native Americans.

"In discussions prior to the vote, faculty expressed their support for the name change as an opportunity to show support for Native Americans on our campus and beyond, and to celebrate Native Amerian culture and history," Roberts said.

The changes will be effective next fall.

5 Reasons Why Logan Could Be Returning to 'Gilmore Girls'

$
0
0

When Gilmore Girls ended its final season, fans were distraught with how Logan and Rory's relationship was left. So, naturally, when the reboot was confirmed to air on Netflix, our first thoughts were about whether the two former lovebirds would reconnect.

So far, the characters that will for sure be in the four 90-minute episodes are—of course—Lorelai and Rory, as well as Emily Gilmore, Luke, Lane, Kirk and now Logan! Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator of the show, has confirmed that Rory has not yet tied the knot and has been exploring the dating world since we last saw her. We wonder how Rory and Logan will meet up in the revival—here are our best guesses!

1. Logan needs a good writer he can trust for his company

We're figuring that Logan has made it big and has his own sucessful company now. He might need a good writer for his team, and he can only think of one girl. He calls Rory up and they decide to grab coffee (he knows she needs her caffeine!). The meetings start off as strictly business, but things quickly heat up and they rekindle their old relationship!

2. Rory runs into Mitchum Huntzberger

When Rory and Logan were dating, she and his father were definitely not best pals, but he did know that she was the best thing to happen to his son. Years later after Mitchum is done with the business world, he might use his old connections to look up Rory and tell her that he thinks the two were meant to be from the start. Logan and Rory might grab dinner just to shut Mitchum up but end up acting just like college kids again…and maybe even steal a boat!

3. Lorelai meddles

Who knows Rory better than her mom? Although Lorelai was pretty relieved that Rory and Logan didn't get married, time might have changed her opinion. Rory has probably dated a few lucky men since the show ended, but Lorelai could tell that none have made her as happy as Logan did. So, doing what she does best, Lorelai gets a hold of Logan and sets the two up to "run into each other" and they pick right back up from where they left off.

4. Logan comes back

Logan Huntzberger was the king of grand gestures. From flying across an ocean to see Rory for a weekend to proposing to her at her graduation party, he knew he had an amazing girl worth it all. So, after never being the same since being with Rory, maybe he tracks down the one that got away. He would appologize to Rory for pressuring her and giving her an ultimatum and give her some wild, unthinkable gift. The two would be back and better than ever!

5. Rory makes the next move

If we know anything about Rory, it's that she is not about waiting around for some boy to fix things. She takes life by the reigns and is in total control. Maybe Rory will be the one to seek out Logan, and she'll let him hear what's been on her mind for so long—since the day Logan left her with no choice but to say goodbye. Logan, having a soft spot for the Gilmore girl, will be all for starting again.

So collegiettes, which scenario do you think is most likely to happen when the revival is finally available to binge? Let us know!

Here's What Happened When Texas Defunded Planned Parenthood

$

0

It's been over three years since Texas stopped funding Planned Parenthood and cut funding to any organization that offers abortions. As a result, the number of women who use birth control have gone down and the birth rate has gone up.

A study by the The New England Journal of Medicine published Wednesday shows that the number of women who file insurance claims for both long-acting reversible and injectable contraceptives (like IUDs and implants), have significantly gone down—And if women aren't filing claims for these types of birth control, it means they aren't using them. For women using long-acting reversible contraception, the number of claims dropped by 35.5 percent. That's a lot!

During that same three-year period from 2011 to 2014, a 1.9 birthing rate increase occurred in the areas where state-owned Planned Parenthood clinics used to exist. So what happened? Because Planned Parenthood was no longer covered in many women's insurance programs, they couldn't afford contraceptives anymore. And if you can't use birth control? It doesn't take a genius to predict that you're much more likely to have more babies. Not to mention that it's poor women who are feeling the worst effects of this—Yahoo! reports that before they were defunded, Planned Parenthood clinics served 60 percent of Texas's low-income women.

Cosmopolitan calls these results as proof that "what's happening in Texas is a preview of what happens when you take away health care from women." Not giving women the choice to be able to take contraceptives or have an abortion by employing Planned Parenthood's services is making a huge difference in their lives—And it's heartbreaking knowing that these women have lost such an important resource to them due to the witholding of funds.

Kylie Jenner Just Revealed Her New Lip Kit Colors & They're Already Sold Out

Makeup enthusiasts everywhere have been raving about Kylie Jenner's original Lip Kit shades: True Brown K, Dolce K and Candy K. Given the popularity of these neutral brown shades, Kylie decided to release a new collection of pinks and reds just in time for Valentine's Day. While the shades are absolutely gorgeous, we're loving the sweet tribute she made to her family, too.

The beautiful bold red lip color is called Mary Jo K, named after Kylie's loving maternal grandmother. Khloe Kardashian also has a Lip Kit named after her called Koko K, a muted pink shade. Getting name inspiration from her life isn't new for Kylie: Dolce K from the first collection is named after the family dog.

She also released a bolder pink shade called Posie K, presumably named after the flower, though it's not clear why she chose that name.

Could this be a hint at future collections with shades named after the rest of her family members? Kylie doesn't show any signs of stopping her contributions to the makeup industry, so it's possible.

In the meantime, we'll be refreshing the Kylie Cosmetics website in hopes that they'll restock, since these bad boys sold out within 10 minutes of their release earlier today.

Women Banned from Tinder for Campaigning Too Hard For Bernie Sanders

Robyn Gedrich, 23-year-old New Jersey resident and avid Bernie Sanders fan, has been banned from Tinder after being reported too many times for her persistent campaigning for the Senator.

In an attempt to spread support for Sanders' campaign, Gedrich swiped right on every Tinder profile and sent the same message to every match: “Do you feel the bern? Please text WORK to 82623 for me. Thanks!”

The number is one to text if you want to volunteer for the Sanders campaign. While a lot of Tinder users thought Gedrich was a bot (hence the banning), she said she had some interesting conversations as well.

"Some of them didn’t know about a lot of issues going on in the world, so it was kind of cool to talk to them and explain to them things they wouldn’t have known otherwise," Gedrich told Mashable. "Not a lot of them are interested, but at least a few are."

An advocate affordable college, Gedrich works as an assistant store manager at an outlet mall store and is just trying to save enough money to get her bachelor’s degree.

“These guys are disgusting. They’re just looking for sex and that’s it,” Gedrich told BuzzFeed News. “So if they’re going to swipe right, they might as well do some good and donate to the man, the myth, the legend, Bernie.”

Though Gedrich has moved on to Facebook, she’s started a Tinder revolution

These 10 Colleges Are Most Worth Your Money

As much as we would like to bemoan our tuition rates and hikes, college is a useful investment, no matter which school you attend. But as we all know, college is expensive. Are some schools more worth your time and money than others? The Princeton Review thinks so, and has published the 2016 list of 50 Colleges That Pay You Back after researching 650 different schools.

The official term they use is ROI (return on investment), which considers the tuition amounts of various colleges, their financial aid packages, and the employment and salaries of alumni, among other factors. Basic stuff like, how much does the school cost? And how well does it prepare you for a great job that will help you make up the money you spent to go there? We couldn't help but notice a few Ivy League institutions studding the list: Harvard, Princeton, Yale. Other schools included Rice University, the University of California (Berkeley), and The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. See below for the top 10, as published on BostInno.

1.  California Institute of Technology (Pasadena, CA)

2.   Princeton University (Princeton, NJ)

3.   The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (New York, NY)

4.   Harvey Mudd College (Claremont, CA)

5.   Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA)

6.   Stanford University (Stanford, CA)

7.   Yale University (New Haven, CT)

8.   University of California (Berkeley, CA)

9.   Rice University (Houston, TX)

10. Harvard College (Cambridge, MA)

"On so many fronts that matter to parents and students alike, these colleges are truly standouts," said Robert Franek, The Princeton Review’s Senior VP/Publisher and the lead author of Colleges That Pay You Back. "They offer outstanding academics and generous financial aid to students with need and/or charge a relatively low cost of attendance. Some, phenomenally, do both. Their students also have access to extraordinary career services programs and a lifetime of alumni connections and post-grad support."

Check out Princeton Review's report on colleges that offer the highest ROIs, and see if yours made the cut! If not, don't worry—Your education is what you make of it, not what the statistics say.

Kim Kardashian's Pricey Valentine's Day Gift Guide is ALL About Sex

$

Kim Kardashian has always been open about her sex life with husband Kanye West, but we know a little too much now that she has released a sexy Valentine’s Day gift guide.

Kim starts the guide with some affordable, almost G-rated items. She suggests $5 "Steamy" coupons and a $25 romantic bubble bath from Philosophy called "Unconditional Love." She also added in a not-so-kid-friendly $18 chocolate body fondue.

As the list goes on, Kim shows us that having two children isn’t any reason to let things get boring in the bedroom. The items continue to get more risqué and more pricey, like a $34.95 Fifty Shades of Grey-style riding crop and a $69 silk blindfold. Anyone feeling extra luxurious can splurge on Armand de Brignac Brut Rose Champagne, modestly priced at $9,999.98 per bottle.

This guide is great for people who want to spice things up with their partner this upcoming holiday weekend, but it’s not so great for people who don’t have a spare $10,000 to spend (i.e. everyone except the Kardashians). We college girls will stick to more affordable Valentine’s Day gifts for now.

How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day: A Guide for Every Type of Relationship

$
0
0

It’s the one day a year that strikes fear into the hearts of many, and it’s almost here. That’s right: Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching. If you’re sort of seeing someone, but you haven’t put a label on it, February 14 can bring up some big questions. Even if you’re fully committed to one another, what happens if you can’t be together for the holiday? No matter what type of relationship you’re in, celebrating Valentine’s Day should be fun—not stressful. Here’s how to deal with the “V word” this year if you’re not in a conventional relationship.

Relationship Status: “Hanging out”

You’ve been spending time together, texting and Snapchatting, but you’re not exactly FBO. When you’re just hanging out with someone, it can feel awkward to broach the subject of Valentine’s Day. You don’t want to put pressure on your crush to move the relationship forward too quickly, but it would be nice to spend the fourteenth together. So, what do you do? Consider hanging out with a group of friends who are in similar situations. Plan a movie night at someone’s apartment, or go out for a sushi lunch. Including others and meeting up in a casual setting will lessen any anxiety, and you’re both sure to have a great time!

“Last year I lived in my sorority house and was single, so some of my sisters, one of their guy friends and I picked up sushi and Ben & Jerry's ice-cream, watched Sleepover, then played games in the house TV room,” says Iris, a senior at UCLA. “It was super low key, but I honestly had way more fun than the one time I wasn't single on Valentine's Day.” Valentine’s Day is all about love, and who do you love more than your BFFs?

Relationship Status: FWB

You’re definitely more than friends, but you’re definitely not dating. The infamous friends with benefits set-up is all fun and games, until it comes to Valentine’s Day. Even if you’ve talked about boundaries with your FWB (which you should have!), celebrating a romantic holiday like Valentine’s Day probably isn’t something you should do together. Instead, grab a few of your single girlfriends and treat yourselves to dinner and drinks.

Relationship Status: Just started dating

If you started dating right around February 14, be sure to talk about your expectations for the holiday. It shouldn’t be too big of a deal, but you want to make sure you and your new beau are on the same page as far as gifts and plans.

“I started talking to my current BF a couple weeks before Valentine's Day last year, so when the day came around we weren't officially dating yet,” says Rachel*, a sophomore at Indiana University. “However, leading up to Valentine's Day we had a really brief conversation just to make sure we were both on the same page—that we wanted to acknowledge Valentine's Day together, go out to dinner, give small gifts, etc. If you're with someone relatively new, I would recommend having that conversation and just getting it out of the way, that way there aren't any awkward misunderstandings. It made things a lot more stress-free and fun because I didn't have to do any guessing or worrying.” Communication is key in any relationship, so why not start now?

Related: Valentine's Day: Girls' Expectations vs. Guys' Reality

Relationship Status: In a LDR

Even if you’re in a relationship when V-Day rolls around, you might not be able to spend the day with your SO. If you’re in a long distance relationship and it’s too expensive to visit your partner for the weekend, Valentine’s Day can get you down. But you don’t have to let it! Plan a full out Skype date—watch a movie together, cook dinner at the same time and watch each other open the gifts you each sent. It’s not as good as being together in person, but it is a simple way to feel connected.

Relationship Status: Dating for more than a year

Finally, if you’ve been dating for over a year, you’ve already experienced the excitement of having a Valentine. Maybe you’ve even seen multiple Valentine’s Days with your boyfriend or girlfriend. Instead of doing the traditional fancy dinner or cliché gifts, try something new! Give each other funny presents or decide that gifts have to be handmade. Order a pizza and stay in binge-watching a new TV show, or go roller-skating.

“My girlfriend and I have been together for 7 years,” says Alaina, a first-year grad student at Emerson College. “What we like to do is try to do new things every year. Last year, we had an anti-Valentine’s singles party with all our friends and went out to dinner on Friday the 13 instead (just to be different). The year before we actually went out on the fourteenth, because ironically we never had before—the whole shebang, flowers, chocolate, candles, food. Other years we [did] things like see a movie, go bowling or go to the bookstore. This year we'll probably do something new again, like go to an aquarium, a museum or on a scavenger hunt around Boston, since it's our first year living together post-college.” The possibilities for an unconventional Valentine’s Day are endless, and doing something nontraditional will keep your long-term relationship interesting!

No matter the nature of your relationship, Valentine’s Day stress shouldn’t get to you. Communicate with the other person and make sure you’re on the same page. You may have to make some compromises, or maybe you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Either way, try to remember that in the end, it’s just one day out of the year.

We're Finally Getting Those 'The O.C.' & 'Friday Night Lights' Reunions

It seems as though fans of The O.C. and Friday Night Lights have a reason to rejoice once again because the casts from both shows are planning their own reunions! In the spirit of other television shows staging reunions, these two classic TV staples from the early to mid ‘00s will also follow suit.

On Friday, the ATX Film Festival announced its 2016 lineup of panels and programs, which will include a Writer’s Room Reunion for The O.C. and a script reading of the pilot episode. Let’s be honest, what would a television show reunion be without the cast of the show present? While we have yet to hear who exactly will be there, we're hoping the original cast will reprise their roles.

And to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the series premiere of Friday Night Lights, there will be a special reunion, which will be filmed on the familiar Panther Field—with the cast and crew of the original show present, as well as fans like you.

In the past, the festival has hosted reunion specials for shows like Gilmore Girls, so without a doubt, we are sure the reunions for these shows will be nothing short of exciting, both for those present and those who will tune in from afar.

Which show should film a reunion next, collegiettes?

Nobody thought it could get better than that, but H&M delivered once again—this year, the fast fashion brand is releasing an organic beauty collection to go alongside its new organic clothing line, the H&M Conscious Collection. The best part is, the line of hair, skin and bodycare must-haves range from just $7 to $13.

Every product is GMO-, paraben- and silicone-free, and all of the packaging is completely recyclable. The formulas are free of synthetic fragrances and colors, so you know that everything you're putting on your skin is actually doing you good. The line includes a variety of body creams, body oils, face masks, hand creams, shampoo and even aluminum-free deodorant. You might be able to find a few of these in stores now, but the full launch won't happen until April 7. Mark your calendars!

Netflix Did Its Own Study on Netflix & Chill

Netflix has transformed pop culture in recent years, bringing us hit shows like Orange is the New Black and Making a Murderer. But a recent study conducted by Netflix and the market research company Ipsos shows that Netflix has actually changed our dating habits as well. (Yes, there’s some truth to the Netflix and Chill craze.)

A crop of 1,008 American users between the ages of 18 and 29 participated in the study, answering a survey on Netflix’s impact on courting, dating and relationships. The findings were surprising but not unexpected. A respectable 27 percent of those surveyed insisted show compatibility is important in the courting stage. And 25 percent claimed they have fallen victim to show goggles, "a psychological phenomenon resulting in a drastic change in perceived attractiveness based on taste in TV shows," leading 58 percent to add shows and movies to their profile to attract potential suitors.

The inforgraphic below shows the study in more detail.

We’re not too sure what it says about our generation when 51 percent think sharing a Netflix password is the sign of a serious relationship, and 17 percent of people won’t even share their password until their engaged! But we have to agree with the 58 percent who say staying in bed and watching Netflix with someone special is a great way to bond.

Whether you're in a long-term relationship or just getting to know someone, be aware of Netflix's impact. Streaming your favorite shows and movies together is great, but make sure to schedule in some one-on-one time, too.

In preparation for Super Bowl Sunday, this week has been full of commercial releases that will be shown on the night of the big game. While there have only been a few released so far, one in particular has caught our eye. It happens to star our new favorite comedic pair, Amy Schumer and Seth Rogen. And as expected, it has everyone laughing out loud, literally!

The pair took advantage of election season and decided to form their own political group in an advertisement titled “The Bud Light Party.” While they have formed a faux political party, we can only imagine how interesting it would be to see them actually play the part, right?

With cameos from celebrities like Paul Rudd and Michael Peña, it is a star-studded affair that you don’t want to miss!
