Are You a Creeper? See What This Survey Has to Say

$
0
0

Everybody has that person whom they'd rather avoid for one simple reason: They're creepy. Whether it's a peer, a colleague or even a family member, there's always that one person in your life who makes you feel uncomfortable (whether they intend that response or not). But why exactly are some people perceived as creepy and others aren't? Well, according to social psychologist Francis McAndrew, feeling creeped out is a legitimate human response to seemingly dangerous situations (either violent or sexual).

So what contributes to this creeped out feeling? McAndrew sampled 1,300 people between the ages of 18 and 77, asking them to rate how weirded out they felt about certain behaviors and characteristics (from 1 - not at all, to 5 - very much). At the top of the list were three notable actions:

1) A person watching a friend before going to interact with them

2) Touching a friend frequently

3) Steering the conversation towards sex

Below is the entire chart from most creepy to least, created by Business Insider:

Creepy behaviors and characteristics chart

Also important to note is that 95 percent of those surveyed said males are more likely to be creepers than females—So us collegiettes probably don't have to worry too much about our creep factor.

But perhaps the most interesting part of this study was when McAndrew asked the respondents to rate the creepiest occupations in the world. No surprise, clowns came were number one (hello, we've all seen the movie "IT" and we know just how that ended), followed by taxidermists, sex shop owners and funeral directors (sorry "Six Feet Under" fans).

If there's anything collegiettes can take away from this study, it's this: Don't eye-stalk people, quit the touchy-feely stuff and (guys especially) don't turn everything into a "that's what she said!" joke. Oh, and for anyone currently enrolled in clown school, consider another profession.

The 4 Chicest Ways to Dress Up As a Cat for Halloween

Dressing up as a cat for Halloween has become such a collegiette stereotype, right? If you’re wearing a latex catsuit, then definitely yes. So ditch that lame (and extremely uncomfortable) getup for one of these 4 ultra-chic cat ensembles.

1. You’ve gotta be kitten me

Gone are the days when you had to worry about people guessing what your costume is supposed to be. Adding a grunge vibe to this look, we paired a denim jacket, black shorts, lace-up boots and—you guessed it!—cat tights with this standout Wildfox jumper.

2. Paws-itively purr-fect

An unoriginal copycat—pun intended—would likely wear a black jumpsuit with her cat mask, but we’re trying something different. Black overalls, to be exact. Plus, you can wear this outfit all day long before putting on your mask for all those parties you’ll be hitting up.

3. Meow or later

This cozy look is fit for any day of the year. But ideally, we’re picturing ourselves watching Hocus Pocus in our beds while donning this cuddly sweater-and-joggers combination on All Hallows’ Eve. Socks, glasses and a twist scarf for that must-have topknot complete your “Wake me up when it’s November” ensemble.

4. Bad cat-titude

Cat Look 3

For the cat lover of the bunch, the subtle meow-factor on this collared LBD is tops. A cute cat clutch and cat-eye shades hint at your obsession with felines, too. Frilly socks that play peek-a-boo at the top of your ankle boots and a floppy fall hat ensure a feminine edge.

Which of these looks is your fave, collegiettes?

These Statistics About College Sex Habits Might Surprise You

$

New York Magazine recently surveyed more than 700 college students about their sex lives. While many people think everyone in college is having sex, the results were surprising.

While most people thought they were less sexually active than their peers, 41 percent of women and 49 percent of men reported not being sexually active at all. On top of this, 39 percent reported to be virgins. So if you've been thinking, "Everyone is having sex except meee!" worry no more. You're far from alone.

Not necessarily what you would think, right? The survey also found some interesting statistics about love. 70 percent of women and 80 percent of men reported being in love, and 73 percent of students reported having been in love at one point. These statistics challenge the assumptions about college "hook up culture," where everyone's allegedly running around having no-strings-attached sex. Same with the stereotype that college kids are spending all their time on Tinder at the expense of real-life relationships—Only 17 percent of women and 27 percent of men said they use dating apps.

The sexual assault findings were less surprising, with 12 percent of women saying they had been raped compared to 4 percent of men. Women were also warier of the system when it came to reporting assault, with 62 percent saying they though their school did a good job handling rape reporting, compared to 80 percent of men.

Do these results fit with what you've seen on campus?

This Survey Reveals How Much Our Drinking Habits Are Draining The Economy

$

0

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted a study to find out just how much American drinking habits cost our society every year, and the answer is pretty shocking: $249 billion. Yep, billion with a “b.” That’s $2.05 per drink!

Where do these costs come from? $75 billion of it comes as a result of early mortality caused by alcohol consumption. Americans lose a whopping $82 billion per year because of lost productivity and missing work as a result of drinking. Healthcare and crime caused by alcohol consumption each cost society $28 billion and $25 billion, respectively. Underage drinking accounts for $24.3 billion. The government covers about $100 billion of these costs through institutions like Medicare and the criminal justice system. The remaining $150 billion must be covered by American taxpayers.

The societal cost-per-drink actually varies by state—anywhere from $0.92 (New Hampshire) to $2.77 (New Mexico). It’s actually possible for you to calculate how much your own drinking habits cost society just by inputting your state and how many drinks you consume on a weekly basis.

Alcohol taxes bring in about $16 billion in revenue per year, according to the Washington Post—not nearly enough to cover the $100 billion the government must spend on costs that come as a result of alcohol consumption. This is why many feel the tax should be raised—higher costs would also discourage binge drinking. However, the alcoholic beverage industry contributes about $400 billion to the U.S. economy every year, according to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States. Still, this study serves as a pretty shocking reminder of the economic impact any of our choices can have.

What Halloween is Like in College

$

There are few holidays a collegiette loves more than Halloween.

You may be too old for the days of trick-or-treating, sadly.

But the new treat has become deciding what you’re going to dress up as each year.

Once October rolls around, you start brainstorming ideas for your costumes.

Halloween used to last for just one night...

...but in college, Halloween becomes a weekend-long event, which means several different costumes.

You and your friends might plan some group costume you can all dress up as together.

Or you might find it easier to just come up with some solo costumes.

At first you have trouble coming up with ideas.

But once you decide on that perfect costume, you become determined to not tell anyone about it until October 31st.

When you first start college, you’re all about making your look as sexy as possible...

...Even if your outfit is barely an excuse for a costume.

Other people may judge you…

…but you won’t let it faze you.

However, as you grow older, you may start to see the appeal of a more conservative approach.

Maybe you’ll decide you want to have a really clever costume.

Or perhaps you’ll decide this year that you don’t even care if your costume makes you look good or not.

As the big weekend approaches, you start making your party plans.

That first night, you pull out all the stops to make sure your costume is flawless.

The only things that could possibly put a damper on your night are having someone not understand your costume…

…and seeing other girls who have the same costume as you.

You may lose half your accessories, but all in all, the first night goes off without a hitch.

As the weekend continues, you get progressively lazier with your costumes…

…and by the end of the weekend, it’s a miracle that you make it out at all.

But somehow you survive Halloweekend!

And then it’s time to start planning your costumes for next year.

Kanye West Just Released New Music

Kanye West shocked us all—including his wife Kim Kardashian—when he announced his intention to run for president in 2020 at this year's MTV VMAs, and it turns out he wasn’t done with the surprises.

Yesterday Kanye decided to release not one but two new songs on his official SoundCloud page. The two songs are actually not original songs, but both new versions of songs already released. The first, “Say You Will” is a new version of Kanye’s own song from his 2008 release 808s & Heartbreak, which features vocals from Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw. The second is a rework of a song that Kanye originally produced—The Weeknd’s “Tell Your Friends.”

It's unclear whether or not these two songs will be on Kanye’s newest album. Kanye’s been keeping hush about Swish, his new album; as of now, he hasn't revealed a release date or track list.

Male Student Refuses to Attend Consent Class

With sexual consent being a problem on college campuses across the globe, more consent education classes are being required to teach people exactly what consent looks like. George Lawlor, a 19-year-old student in the United Kingdom, feels that he doesn't need these classes, because duh, he's not a rapist!

He wrote a post for The Tab that says:

"I don't have to be taught not to be a rapist. That much comes naturally to me, as I am sure it does to the overwhelming majority of people you and I know. Brand me a bigot, a misogynist, a rape apologist, I don't care. I stand by that."

Although he feels that the classes are unnecessary, Buzzfeed News reported that other people disagree. Consent educators pointed out to Buzzfeed that the classes are not meant to accuse people of being rapists, but to educate people about what consent is and how to identify it.

Nessa Dinneen, a 20-year-old student, told Buzzfeed News that she's discovered through personal experience that many men don't know the full meaning of consent.

"They don't have to be convicted rapists to subject women to non-consensual sex," she said.

Consent education is important. What do you think, collegiettes?

Amy Schumer Gets Honest About Her Body Image Struggles

$

It’s hard to believe that the reigning queen of comedy, Amy Schumer, ever struggles with confidence. It seems like she’s always calling out the entertainment industry on its hypocrisy and harsh standards rather than falling victim to it—but in an interview with Maria Shriver on TODAY, she got emotional discussing her own struggle with body image, one of the subjects she most often jokes about during performances.

"It's been a struggle for me my whole life, and especially just being in the entertainment industry,” she said. “Standing on a stage in front of people, I can't perform my best or be confident if I'm not sure—if I'm pulling at something [I'm wearing]. And sometimes I would just want to throw in the towel and be like, 'I'm not gonna go do standup tonight.'"

Schumer met stylist Leesa Evans while on the set of her hit movie Trainwreck, and their relationship changed her entire perspective. "Leesa had given me this gift of showing me how to dress and feel good,” Schumer said with genuine emotion. “And she didn't have to do this, she just did… And I just wanted to give it to every woman.” Since then, the comedian has been inspired to start an organization called StyleFund, which partners with Goodwill “with the goal of helping women create their individual style to step out into the world with confidence.”

Schumer is not only helping women find their own style, but is fighting back against the ridiculous standards Hollywood and the media enforce, which she does every time she goes onstage. She has a rare gift for addressing any topic with a certain grace and sense of humor, so you can’t help but laugh, no matter how infuriating an issue like unrealistic beauty standards might be. In her interview, she added that her ultimate goal is to "make everybody laugh and feel better, which is my goal across the board with everything." We’d say that so far we think she’s doing a pretty darn good job.

Zooey Deschanel and Jacob Pechenik had their baby girl in July, but only just announced her name to People magazine—and it's probably the cutest celeb baby name we've ever heard.

That name? Elsie Otter—because what else would Zooey Deschanel name her daughter? Just the name alone gives that baby the charm that we've come to expect from Zooey, who clarified to People that, yes, it's Otter "like the animal," to which her hubby added, "sea otter." Adorable.

Texas Is Eliminating Funding to Planned Parenthood

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Monday that the state will eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood due to concern about the organization's fetal tissue donations. His statement says that Medicaid will no longer be involved with the organization, which means government funding will be cut off.

The governer's statement argued "that Planned Parenthood and its affiliates are no longer capable of performing medical services in a professionally competent, safe, legal and ethical manner." However, Planned Parenthood has stated that they will no longer accept reimbursements for expenses related to donated fetal tissue in order to discourage people from attacking their organization.

Defunding Planned Parenthood will undoubtedly have a huge impact on women in Texas.

7 Types of Guys That You're Too Good For

$
0
0

Do you remember MTV’s popular dating show Next? This show used to have us in tears laughing. First, we have the ideal girl or guy that is looking for their perfect match. But when contestants didn’t meet up to their standards, they were sure to hit them with “NEXT!” Is that how you feel about certain guys you have encountered? You may feel like you're on another level and they are just not worth your time. We are no strangers to plenty of these types of guys:

1. The One Who Plays Hard to Get

Have you ever met a guy that seemed to really like you one day, and then the next day it's like he forgot you existed? We don’t have time for this type! Guys sometimes act as if they are unavailable to seem disinterested and detached. Some girls like this in the early stages of a relationship, but eventually it gets old. Ignoring our texts, not showing up when he said he would or refusing to contact us first are not going to keep us girls around for long.

We got the low down from Chantal Norman and Nicole Dei, two seniors at the University of Maryland, College Park. "I don't believe in those types of guys. If you want to be with me, then do that. If you don't, I will make room for the next man," Chantal says. Nicole is thinking the same thing! "I don't like it because consistency is everything. You're just blocking my opportunity to meet greatness and I was really just wasting my time on you," Nicole says.

Believe us, if we were to flip the script and do this to a guy, he would be gone in a hot second. If a guy meets you and is legitimately interested in you, he should act interested.

2. The Complete Player

This is the guy that has broken heart after heart and may have tried to date all of your friends. Why is it that some guys think that because they are no longer involved with our friend that we will jump on the bandwagon? Chantal isn't feeling players at all.

"I don't respect guys who do this. How are you going to come into my friend's group and try to date me and all of my bestfriends? No," Chantal says. Players often have a charming way of convincing every girl that they really are the one for them.

"I think those guys are so confused because they think we're stupid and don't tell our friends everything. How can you talk to multiple friends and think you can get away with it?" Nicole says. "That's what makes me question the entire male species in the first place."

Has a guy ever approached you and said, "I’m just looking for that special girl who will give me a chance so I can show that I have changed?" It may be hard for us to not give him the side eye, but this is so common and should definitely be avoided!

3. The Meat Head

A lot of us love to be fit and go to the gym to stay in shape. We may admire a guy with a nice body, but how do you feel about those fitness junkies that need the entire world to know? If you go to his Instagram, you may see a selfie with his shirt pulled up to his neck to show off his pecs. Nicole thinks this is an automatic turn off. "This makes me feel like you're insecure. Why are you out here acting like an Abercrombie & Fitch model for free?" she says.

We're all about the gorgeous bod, but when it shows up in almost every picture, it can be a bit too much. Us girls want guys to leave something for our imagination. Not all girls would like to see their man on social media flaunting his goods for everyone to see.

4. The Underachiever

We understand that some days you might want to relax and act like you have no responsibilities, but this is definitely a sign of a guy you may want to avoid. Girls are not necessarily looking for the underachiever with no hobbies or future aspirations. "If you aren't adding anything to me, what's your purpose?" Chantal asks. "At this age, this is the prime time to be a go-getter." We like guys that can be very chill but aren’t just mooching off of us. We want someone who actually has a schedule, has goals and is working towards them.

"That is unattractive because if you have no drive, you don't want to do better in life and you're complacent," Nicole says. These ladies really spoke a lot of wisdom. Go for the guy that is the overachiever!

5. The One Who Doesn't Understand the Word "No"

Have you ever been patiently standing by yourself at the mall or bus stop and a guy comes up to ask if you have a boyfriend? Many girls may respond yes if they are in a relationship, and others may still respond yes even if they do not have a boyfriend. "I do like a forward man and one who's persistent, but there's a fine line between being slightly attractive with an aggressive mentality and being straight creepy and annoying," Chantal says. You would think that this guy would take it as a loss, but that is far from the truth. This guy may continue to ask for your number, even though you nicely made it clear you weren't interested. But wait! Then he goes on to say, "Oh, so you can’t have any friends."

"I think it's how you feel about that person, but if I am saying no with no type of smile, you need to leave me alone," Nicole says. We know you might have gotten a great laugh out of this, but the majority of these guys continue on to bash the girl for not wanting to give him her number. Steer clear!

6. The Netflix & Chill Type

He may frame it as a nice movie session or game night, but have you ever gotten into this situation and he was looking for something more? "He's a schemer. One of my biggest pet peeves is when a guy assumes that you want more when you never suggest that. Then, when you say no, they are always so blown. Next!" Nicole says. Guys may think they are smooth, but we know what is going on. You may walk into his house to watch a movie, only to discover that he has no TV. A girl's face may completely turn sideways if he continues to say, "How about we not watch a movie and make our own." A guy can try to swindle you, but it will not always work. Sorry, not sorry!

7. The One Who's a Bit Too Smooth

This guy is charming, but maybe a little too charming. He may try to convince you that you are the only girl he is interested in, yet is quick to check out other girls while you are in his presence. "Being sneaky, you will always get caught. Why even lie? If you're not only dating me, just say that. I may be dabbling a little myself as well," Chantal says. You may find yourself on your Instagram and see his name up and down your timeline as he comments kissy faces on every girl’s picture. If you catch a guy doing this when you start dating, you may want to head for the door.

"As soon as you tell a girl that you're only talking to them, you essentially say that you are already talking to other people," Nicole says. "Why would you have to say this in the first place?" If a guy does this a lot when he first meets you, we can only imagine how bad it could get. This is a big red flag!

You might meet a guy and begin to notice signs that he is not the one. To avoid the frustration you may have if things go wrong, stay away from these seven guys that can end up making you run miles and miles away!

21 Things Girls With Big Brothers Will Understand

$

Being a younger sibling can be tough. We never get to ride shotgun, the remote gets ripped out of our hands (especially when we're particularly involved with an episode of Grey's), and we've got the scars and bruises to show for what we've been through. Having an older brother is a special kind of deal. It's a rollercoaster ride. So here's a little trip down memory lane for all of the little sisters with big brothers out there.

1. You're used to a little roughhousing

2. and you can throw a good punch.

3. But if you ever need backup, he's there for you

4. ESPECIALLY when it comes to guys.

5. Because if he had it his way, guys would never even come near you.

6. But you know it's just because he doesn't want to see you get hurt.

7. And he really does want the best for you

8. even if he isn't always so great at saying it

9. …and drives you totally insane.

10. You may not love to admit it, but you think he's pretty cool

11. …and you wanted to be just like him growing up.

12. So he taught you what was cool before all the kids in your grade knew what was up

13. and told you when you were being a little less than cool.

14. He was the one who gave you your first beer

He just wanted to teach you to drink responsibly…is what he told your parents.

15. and made you look really good when you got in trouble with your parents

16. but made you pay for it when you let him take the blame

17. ...which ended up being worth it because now you're tough as nails.

18. Plus, it's a pretty sweet deal that his friends are all like your brothers, too

19. except for that one you've had a crush on forever.

Seriously, though. Will he ever get over the whole "little sister of his best friend" thing???

20. You're protective of him when it comes to girls, too.

21. Because when it comes down to it, he's your best friend and your hero.

And NOBODY can come between you!

7 Fall-Themed & Healthy Dishes You Need to Try

Let’s face it, just because something is pumpkin spiced, doesn’t mean it’s healthy – or even made of pumpkin, for that matter. Ditch the latte, and look for seasonal foods like apples, sweet potatoes, squashes and nuts. Swimsuit season may have come and gone, but it’s easy to incorporate these fall foods all the while maintaining your health.

1.  Butternut Squash & Apple Soup

Nothing says fall quite like taking a trip to the local farmers’ market for some butternut squash and pumpkin. Registered dietitian Adrienne Raimo refers to this dish as a way to remain healthy and in balance during the cooler season. What makes this so nutritious is that it’s whole foods, plant-based and has an array of healthy macronutrients like fat, carbs and protein, as well as vitamin A, zinc and more.

Recipe courtesy of One Bite Wellness

Ingredients

  • 3-4 tablespoons high-quality butter or olive oil (for a dairy-free option)

  • 4 pounds butternut squash, roasted (average butternut squash weighs 2-3 pounds)

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 apples, chopped

  • 1/2 cup water or vegetable broth

  • 3/4 teaspoons cinnamon

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • 1 cup pumpkin seeds (topping)

Instructions

Roast butternut squash first. Preheat oven to 375 degrees, cut squash open lengthwise and remove seeds. Place squash upside-down on baking sheet and pour about 1/2 cup water on the bottom of baking sheet (or enough so it surrounds squash and helps to steam it). Roast 25-30 minutes, until flesh is fork-tender.

Meanwhile, melt butter/olive oil in pot over medium heat. Add onion and sauté until tender (about eight minutes). Add the roasted squash, apples, and water/vegetable broth. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Add cinnamon and turn off burner to cool food slightly. Then, in small batches, transfer mixture from pot to a high-speed blender and puree until smooth. If too thick, add more liquid. Season with salt and pepper, then transfer to serving bowl and sprinkle with pumpkin seeds. Optional: serve with blue corn chips or whole grain crackers.

2. Vegetarian Chili

This recipe is perfect for autumn and jam-packed with yummy vegetables! Chef, author and cookbook extraordinaire, Patty James recommends eating serving this with a salad to ensure you’re getting raw veggies, too. This chili is a great way to get fiber, as the vegetables and beans are naturally high in it!

Recipe courtesy of Patty James

Ingredients

  • 2 cups pinto beans
  • 2 cups kidney beans
  • 2 cups black beans
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 onions, whole, chopped
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 cup shiitake mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 jalapeno, minced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 2 cans crushed Italian tomatoes, 28 ounce each
  • Dash cayenne pepper

Instructions

In a large, heavy saucepan over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Add the celery, onions, and jalapeño and sauté until tender, about 10 minutes. Add the mushrooms, red pepper, garlic, chili powder, cumin, cayenne and stir for about five minutes. Add the beans and tomatoes, stir and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes. Stir occasionally. Season to taste with sea salt and pepper. Serve as is, or garnish with avocado, cilantro and cheese. Can serve over brown rice to make a complete protein.

3. Baked Penne Pasta with Roasted Vegetables

Also full of vegetables, this dish puts an Italian twist on the typical fall food. Use this to get your healthy carbs, as well as vitamin C. Don’t forget the side salad, like James says!

Recipe courtesy of Patty James

Ingredients

  • 2 medium red peppers, cored and cut into 1 inch wide strips
  • 2 medium zucchini, quartered lengthwise, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 2 medium summer squash, quartered lengthwise, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 6 medium shitake mushrooms, halved
  • 1 medium yellow onion, peeled and sliced into 1 inch strips
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt, divided
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, divided
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian herb mix or herbs de Provence
  • 1 pound penne pasta
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup Fontina cheese, grated
  • 1/2 cup smoked mozzarella, grated
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen peas, thawed
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus 1/3 cup for topping
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. On a baking sheet, toss the peppers, zucchini, squash, mushrooms, and onions with olive oil and then mix in 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon pepper and dried herbs. Roast until al dente, about 15-20 minutes.

Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the pasta and cook for about 6 minutes. Since you will be cooking the pasta a second time in the oven, you want to make sure the inside is still hard. Drain in a colander.

In a large bowl, toss the drained pasta with the roasted vegetables, marinara sauce, cheeses, peas, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Using a wooden spoon, gently mix, until all the pasta is coated with the sauce and the ingredients are combined.

Pour the pasta into a greased 9" by 13" pan. Top with the remaining 1/3 cup Parmesan and butter pieces. Bake until top is golden and cheese melts, about 25 minutes.

4. Apricot Cranberry Relish

Cranberries aren’t just for sauce or Thanksgiving. Clinical dietitian Adrienne Burns says that they promote bladder health and may even decrease your risk of some cancers! Try this for a sweet alternative to Halloween candy!

Recipe courtesy of Coastal Living

Ingredients

  • I cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup and 2 tablespoons honey, divided
  • 1 12-ounce package fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped dried apricots
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped green onion
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped crystalized ginger

Instructions

Combine orange juice and 1/2 cup honey in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Add cranberries, bring to a boil and remove from heat. Drain and let cool. Combine cranberries, two tablespoons honey and remaining ingredients in a medium bowl.

5. Cinnamon & Walnut Shake

Cinnamon is popular around this time of year, which is definitely a good thing. It’s been shown to improve glucose tolerance and is loaded with nutrients, according to Burns. This is a great variation to a normal walnut shake, and perfect for fall!

Recipe courtesy of The Dr. Oz Show

Ingredients

  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

Soak the walnuts in water for a few hours or overnight. Drain the liquid and discard. Place the walnuts and filtered water in a blender and pulse until smooth. Add cinnamon and pulse again.

6. Lamb Ragu

Raimo’s unique dinner incorporates a variety of fall vegetables and is perfect for a chilly night! It has a balanced macronutrient profile and includes vitamin A, lycopene and a variety of antioxidants.

Recipe courtesy of One Bite Wellness

Ingredients

  • 2 large carrots, cut on a diagonal
  • 5-6 cloves of garlic
  • 3 tablespoon of grass-fed butter
  • 1 pound of premium-quality lamb chops
  • 8 oz. grass-fed stew beef
  • 3 stalks of celery
  • 1 tablespoon chorizo fat
  • 2 large Russet potatoes
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 6-7 Roma tomatoes, or heirloom if you have them
  • 2 shots of vodka
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary, dill, thyme, parsley, Foxpoint (Penzey's spices)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Begin by making mashed potatoes. Boil potatoes with cloves of garlic, smash everything and add butter. Boil celery and carrots in saucepan until very tender and water nearly evaporated.

In a saucepan, put whole tomatoes and vodka and start cooking. Smash with potato masher once tender and add salt, pepper. Let simmer. Sear beef and lamb in chorizo fat and add pieces of beef to tomato sauce; turn heat down to low for lamb, add onion and continue to simmer until onions are caramelized or for 45 minutes. Serve as a layered meal. Each layer will have its own unique flavor and every bite is a celebration in your mouth.

7. Fresh Apple Salsa

Practically anything with apples is perfect for fall, but this nutritious side dish can’t be beat. This is especially true due to all of its benefits: low sodium, high in fiber, and no cholesterol, or saturated fat!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups diced peeled Spartan apple (about 3/4 pound)
  • 1/2 cup diced red bell pepper
  • 1/3 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion

10 Beauty Trends Your Boyfriend Doesn’t Understand

Although our boyfriends think we’re beautiful whether we wear makeup or not (obviously because we’re ***flawless), there are some beauty trends that they just don’t get. So instead of trying to explain you were late because you were doing a cat eye or why you want ombre hair, just accept that these are the 10 beauty trends that you SO will never understand.

1. Glitter anything

Whether it’s eye shadow or body lotion, sometimes we like to sparkle. Unfortunately our BF’s are more afraid of getting it on them than appreciating us looking *~fabulous~*.

2. Using shampoo and conditioner

Why would we shampoo AND condition our hair when there’s 2-in-1 soap for everything? No wonder guys take showers so quickly…

3. Lip gloss

To us, our lip gloss is poppin’. To them, it’s just sticky.

4. Ombré hair

Sue us for wanting to look like beautiful celebrities with ombré hair. Chances are your boyfriend won’t even notice you went to the hairdresser and then wonder why you spent so much money dying your hair different colors.

5. Cat eyes

Never rush a girl who’s trying to perfect a cat eye. Additionally, never ask her what took so long and fail to notice her stylish eye makeup.

6.  Red lipstick

Your poor boyfriend is stuck between wanting to smooch your extremely kissable red lips and not wanting to deal with getting lipstick all over himself.

7. Nail art

Pinterest is a foreign concept to most guys, as is nail art. They just can’t appreciate a good accent nail or how painstaking it is to place jewels on them.

8. Fake eyelashes

Our guys love gazing into our beautiful eyes but will always freak out when they see us remove fake eyelashes.

9. Lowlights

No, it’s not when there’s dim lighting at a romantic restaurant.

10. Straightening our hair

They just assume our hair is naturally silky, smooth and straight. Too bad it took an hour, a half of bottle of hair product and a scorching appliance to get it this way.
