President Trump Just Named the Winners of His 'Fake News Awards'

0
0

Every now and then, President Donald Trump does something particularly random and unprecedented, and we never know exactly how to respond when this happens. On Wednesday, such a move occurred when Trump announced on his Twitter account that he was naming winners of — get this — the Fake News Awards. Glad to know that this is how he spent his day.

In a tweet appearing on Wednesday night, Trump wrote, "And the FAKE NEWS winners are..." and then linked to a blog post on the GOP's website. According to the New York Times, this list, described as "an anti-media project," was actually expected after weeks of "cryptic clues." Back in November, Trump had teased about awarding a "fake news trophy," but who knew he was actually going to follow through?

If that wasn't bizarre enough, the president confirmed on Jan. 7 that the awards, going to the "most corrupt and biased of the Mainstream Media," would be released this Wednesday. He claimed that the interest in the awards was "far greater than anyone could have anticipated."

Although his link in Wednesday's tweet initially led to an error page explaining that the site was offline, the technical glitch was resolved less than an hour later.

The list of "winners," entitled "The Highly Anticipated 2017 Fake News Awards," is credited to the combined forces of Team GOP. Coming in at the top of the list was New York Times op-ed columnist Paul Krugman, who claimed that the economy would never recover after Trump won the presidential election on Nov. 8, 2016. Wait, I thought we were just talking about 2017 news?

The blog post also called out ABC News journalist Brian Ross, who was suspended after delivering a false on-air report about Michael Flynn, and various news organizations as a whole. CNN was mentioned four times for allegedly publishing inaccurate news and the Times was listed twice. Also included were The Washington Post, TIME and Newsweek

Following the publication of the list, Trump clarified that he still respected many reporters.

Well, this is certainly a first. Given the way Trump is, I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes an annual tradition for him.

HC Wake-Up Call: TV Host Fights Back After Receiving Insulting Email From the Ansari Piece's Writer, Senate Republicans Abandon DACA Deal & SoulCycle Has Post-Workout Cookie

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

HLN Host Claps Back After Writer of Ansari Piece Sends Her Insulting Email

After saying that Aziz Ansari's accuser was compromising the #MeToo movement earlier this week, HLN host Ashleigh Banfield publicly shared a controversial email that the writer of the anonymous woman's account sent her team. BuzzFeed News reports that Banfield read a portion of writer Katie Way's email, which was in response to a producer's invitation for her to appear on the show, aloud on air on Tuesday. "I hope the 500 retweets on the single news write-up made that burgundy lipstick, bad highlights, second-wave feminist has-been really relevant for a little while," Way wrote in reference to Banfield.

Banfield fiercely responded to the message on her show Crime & Justice with Ashleigh Banfield, saying, "The reason I want to share that is because if you truly believe in the #MeToo movement, if you truly believe in women's rights, if you truly believe in feminism, the last thing you should do is attack someone in an ad hominem way for her age."

The reporter continued, "That is not the way we have this conversations, as women or men — as journalists. We do not attack people for their age or their highlights or their lipstick because it is the most hypocritical thing a woman who says she supports the women's movement could ever do, and that's the caliber of the woman who was given all of this power and was able to wield this power."

Republicans Give Up on the Bipartisan DACA Deal

BuzzFeed News reports that while Senate Republicans have abandoned a bipartisan deal regarding DACA, Democrats are threatening to begin a government shutdown if a deal to revive the program isn't included in a proposed bill. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters, "I'm looking for something that President Trump supports and he's not yet indicated what measure he's willing to sign. As soon as we figure out what he is for then I would be convinced that we were not just spinning our wheels going to this issue on the floor."

What with Republicans saying that there is little chance of a new deal forming by the end of the week, there is a chance that Congress will not meet Friday's midnight deadline to avoid a government shutdown. The news of Senate Republicans dismissing the DACA deal comes on the same day that it was going to be formally introduced.

So Lindsay Lohan Is Launching Her Own Beauty Line, & I Have Some Thoughts

0

Lindsay Lohan, the queen of our childhood bops, is releasing her own makeup line, and honestly, we’re so proud of this positive comeback. The Cut explains that on January 12, Lohan went on The Wendy Williams Show to discuss her new beauty endeavors.

Part of Lohan's beauty launch will be creating a lipstick line, and on one hand, we have hundreds of lippies, liquid lipsticks and lipsticks and we probably shouldn’t buy any more. But on the other hand, we definitely need Lohan’s lipstick in our makeup drawers––because seriously, just look at this packaging! It almost makes us forget about that time she tried to defend Harvey Weinstein's actions.

Lohan has been buzzing in the news since she proved those bankruptcy allegations wrong by buying her own freaking island, since nothing says passive-aggressive pettiness like flexing your success on your haters. If Lohan doesn't inspire you to become a makeup mogul, then you should at least aspire to be as productively petty as her.

Regardless, it’s clear that Lohan’s comeback looks good on her. We only hope we can live vicariously through her when we finally get to wear her new makeup and fragrance.

Dylan Farrow Questions Why Woody Allen is 'More Believable' Than Her in First TV Interview About Sexual Assault Allegations

0
0

Dylan Farrow didn't spare any details in her first televised interview about the alleged sexual abuse by her adoptive father, Woody Allen.

On CBS This Morning with Gayle King, Farrow recounted the 1992 assault, which she said occurred when her mother Mia Farrow was out shopping. Allen allegedly touched Farrow inappropriately.

"As a 7-year-old, I would have said he touched my private parts," Farrow said.

When Mia Farrow learned what had happened, she took her daughter to the doctor. However, once there, Farrow said Allen only touched her shoulder. She told her mother she was embarrassed — but she eventually told the doctor the same thing she did her mother.

Allen used this against Farrow, claiming that she was coached by her mother because she discovered he was having an affair with their adopted daughter, Soon-yi Previn.

Farrow denied this in the interview, and said her mom only encouraged her to tell the truth.

"What I don't understand is how this crazy story of me being brainwashed and coached is more believable than what I'm saying about being sexually assaulted by my father," Farrow said in the interview.

When King played a clip of Allen denying the allegations, Farrow began crying.

"He's lying and he's been lying for so long. And it's difficult for me to see him and hear his voice," She said.

Allen has always denied Farrow's allegations, and maintained that sentiment in a statement about her interview to CBS:

"When this claim was first made more than 25 years ago, it was thoroughly investigated by both the Child Sexual Abuse Clinic of the Yale-New Haven Hospital and New York State Child Welfare. They both did so for many months and independently concluded that no molestation had ever taken place. Instead, they found it likely a vulnerable child had been coached to tell the story by her angry mother during a contentious breakup.

Dylan's older brother Moses has said that he witnessed their mother doing exactly that – relentlessly coaching Dylan, trying to drum into her that her father was a dangerous sexual predator. It seems to have worked – and, sadly, I'm sure Dylan truly believes what she says.

But even though the Farrow family is cynically using the opportunity afforded by the Time's Up movement to repeat this discredited allegation, that doesn't make it any more true today than it was in the past. I never molested my daughter – as all investigations concluded a quarter of a century ago."

Allen was indeed never charged or found guilty; however, Frank Maco, the former Connecticut state prosecutor who worked on the case, said "there was probable cause to charge Allen, but Dylan Farrow was too fragile for the high-profile trial," according to the Washington Post.

Farrow has maintained the sexual assault allegations since 1992, and the story resurfaced and gained traction in 2014 when Farrow penned an open letter about the abuse in The New York Times. She also linked Allen to the #MeToo movement in an op-ed for the Los Angeles Times in December.

Justin Timberlake's New Music Video 'Supplies' Gets Political

0
0

Justin Timberlake just released a new music video for "Supplies", a track from his highly anticipated new album, Man of the Woods. While our previous experience with JT music has been smooth R&B songs and music videos, Timberlake goes in a political (and dark) direction in the video for "Supplies."

The video immediately dives into social issues. Timberlake starts by facing a wall of videos dealing with the political issues consuming America today, like the #MeToo movement, Donald Trump, Harvey Weinstein, racism, immigration, police brutality, etc.

Then, JT seems to be in this weird dystopian city. In one scene people are painted white, which might have to do with race issues, but there are also crocodiles so honestly I have zero clue. He then participates in protests for...something? While there, a girl with a "p***y grabs back" shirt lifts a car, which is cool I guess. Feminism, right? Sure.

After a steamy scene with his lover in the music video, played by Eiza Gonzalez, he emerges from the dirt ground. For this final scene, Justin and Eiza Gonzalez stand with some children amid the rubble of a destroyed city. One child steps forward, saying to the screen “Die already. Die already. You’re still asleep! Wake up! Just leave. Please. For good."

Reactions were mixed. While I was confused after watching the video, this guy seems to have figured it out.

Other people did not react to kindly to the song.

Some were just as confused as I was, especially about how the lyrics to this song somehow lead to the creation of this music video.

Also, still waiting for hot lumberjack Justin Timberlake. I thought this was Man of the Woods, but I have yet to see this man in the woods.

Is Kim Kardashian Using Instagram to Hint at Her Daughter's Name?

Kim Kardashian has kept pretty quiet since the birth of her third child by surrogate on Monday. While she did publicly announce that her new baby girl had arrived, they have yet to mention a name or show any photos of her.

#momofthree

A post shared by Kim Kardashian West (@kimkardashian) on

But on Wednesday fans started to guess the name when Kim posted an uncaptioned photo of the Louis Vuitton logo. She had also recently posted a picture of trash cans — covered in numerous Louis Vuitton logos.

In the comments, people theorized this was some kind of clue. People thought maybe she was naming the baby Louis or Louise. Other popular guesses were some variation on "LV West," like "Elle Vee" or "Elle V."

While naming their child after a fashion house seems exactly like the kind of thing Kimye would do, the seemingly random Instagram posts probably has more to do with the recent announcement from Louis Vuitton that the artistic director of men’s wear, Kim Jones, would be leaving the position. He served as artistic director for seven years, and this upcoming Fall 2018 runway show will be his last, Vogue said.

So really, the new little girl's name could probably be anything. Knowing these two, they'll come up with something cool AF.

How My High Standards For Men & Relationships Have Left Me Perpetually Alone

0
0

I’m not the friend you go to for relationship advice. I’m the friend who you complain with about the rude guy at the bar or promise to live with if neither of us gets married. I am perpetually alone not because I’m a man-hater or because I fear commitment, but because of my high standards for relationships and men.

Some of the biggest influences in my life have been TV and movies. I grew up in front of a screen, and I loved it. I still own an embarrassing number of VHS tapes, many of which are Disney movies. I’m one of those people who loves re-watching movies, and I like to recite lines just for fun. These movies, which I adored so much, are one of the reasons I have such high expectations for relationships. I know it sounds silly, but this is where my relationship issues all began.

It started when I saw Beast defend Beauty, when Prince Eric fell in love with a girl who was very different from him, and when Quasimodo was brutally friend-zoned. These characters were proof that fairytale love exists, and I expected my future relationships to be fairytale-like. All that slightly changed after my parents got divorced. My dad moved out, I lived with my mom and sister, and I spent most of my time with my mom’s female-dominated side of the family. The estrogen levels were very high, and so up went my expectations for men and relationships.

It’s ironic because you would think, with my parents’ divorce, that I would have been anti-relationships, but I just have high standards for myself and my partner because I have seen a bad relationship. I was strangely optimistic for my own love life. I wasn’t going to let myself down by getting into a “bad” relationship. If I kept my expectations high and waited as long as possible to find the right person, it would all work out. I wouldn’t waste my time, or anyone else’s for that matter by dating people I saw no future with. I promised myself I wouldn’t mess up the way my parents did. I guess I blamed my parents for not knowing that their relationship wouldn’t work out. Granted, I’m glad for my existence and that of my sister, but how much pain could have been avoided if they never married at all?

Related: What It's Like to Date if You (or Your SO) Had Toxic Parents

Knowing what a messed up relationship can do to people, I promised myself I wouldn’t settle for mediocrity. I would never settle, period. I thought I knew what I wanted out of a relationship. But I had no way of knowing since I had never been in one.

My so-called "deal-breakers" were concepts pushed at me through TV shows, movies and my feminist family members. I had no way of knowing what my actual deal-breakers would be because I didn’t let myself date.

I never understood what was so great about dating around. My older half-sister once told me to date all different types of guys to find out what you like in a potential partner. I completely avoided this piece of wisdom, and I missed out on some dating opportunities because I was scared: Scared I wouldn't like the person. Scared they wouldn't like me. Scared I would like that person. Scared they would like me.

This isn’t a sob story, and please don’t email me with potential blind dates. I know what my issue is here. I know I have to change this habit of comparing everything to either entirely imaginary, idealistic relationships or my parents' toxic relationship. The first step, writing this story and admitting that having ridiculously high standards, is just a coping mechanism.

Here’s What Happened When I Replaced ALL My Drinks with Hint Water

0
0

By now, we all know that pounding back three lattes during your 8 a.m. lecture and sipping a sugary soda before lunch is not conducive to a healthy life, and yet we find ourselves doing it anyway. On an average week, I probably drink coffee, diet soda, kombucha, tea, seltzer––literally anything––more than I drink plain water because I can’t stand the boring taste of raw H2O. While I feel very #aesthetic carrying around my cold brew, the extra calories, sugar, GMOs and animal products aren’t doing anything wonderful for me.

This week, I decided it was time to do an experiment and see if I would wean myself off coffee and soda with a good-for-you alternative: hint water®.

Hint was founded by a total girl boss.

Hint water came about in 2005 when Kara Golding, formerly the Vice President of Shopping at AOL, realized she was addicted to Diet Coke and needed to make a positive change for her health. She cut soda from her routine, then went in search of a sugar-free flavor water alternative only to discover that no such drink existed. So, Kara went home, boiled some fruit skins and water together in a natural recipe that ended in the creation of hint.

I knew that drinking hint would be the best alternative for me because of the calorie-free, natural contents, and because the plain water flavor is masked by fruit. Plus, a self-proclaimed soda addict literally found it to be the perfect replacement, so how could I not buy into the hype?

It’s, like, the healthiest thing you’ve ever drank.

I picked up a $15 variety pack with watermelon, pineapple, cherry and blackberry flavors. On top of being a legitimately delicious beverage, hint has zero calories, zero fake diet sweeteners, zero preservatives, and it’s vegan and gluten free. This drink is even Whole 30 approved, so you know hint is pure AF since nothing even remotely artificial gets past that program. There’s nothing sketchy about it!

Drinking hint majorly changed my day.

After one day of replacing all my usual beverages with hint water, I definitely noticed a change. Usually with my old drinks, I felt caffeinated––but still sluggish and weighed down because of how unhealthy they were. Sometimes drinking coffee would actually make me thirstier because my body craved water so bad.

With just a day of hint, I felt legitimately hydrated and like I was still getting a treat because of the delicious fruit flavor. By the end of the day my energy level was high, and I didn’t feel like I needed a nap just to make it through dinner. The addiction is real.

I definitely suggest hint water as an alternative to anyone trying to break their bad habits––and because friends don’t let friend drink boring water, use the exclusive code HERCAMPUS when you order hint online today to get a discount at checkout. You up?

5 Signs Jack's Death Is Coming Up Soon on 'This Is Us'

This week’s episode of This Is Us was a quieter chapter of the Pearsons’ lives compared to last week’s explosive therapy session. “Clooney” warmed hearts with subplots about Kate growing closer to Madison and Randall trying to decipher one of William’s poems, but its highlight was a family visit to the mall circa 1997. As we saw with the group trip to the pool in Season 1, these ordinary events are often the most emotionally stirring moments of the show, and while this afternoon sent the family in split directions, it proved that a typical-seeming day was crucial to the Pearsons’ lives.

Now, I have to come clean. I have a English degree and I’m used to analyzing stories and looking for telling clues. I picked up on the episode’s important hint when it was first mentioned at the beginning. But even if you’re not used to scanning a scene for the writers’ sneaky hints, you would’ve known how important this episode was if you kept up on the cast’s tweets as the show started. Sterling K. Brown warned fans that they may want to embrace their scholarly side and watch carefully.

With that actor disclosure in mind, it’s clear that the show is closer than ever to revealing fans’ biggest question: how exactly does Jack die? If you’re still in denial that This Is Us is about to take a heartbreaking turn, here are five signs that Jack’s death is definitely coming up soon.

1. Jack and Rebecca forgot to pick up batteries

Blink and you would’ve missed Rebecca asking Jack to remind her to buy batteries at the beginning of the episode. Although they accompanied the kids to the mall with the intention of getting batteries, it was quickly forgotten when the Big Three’s demands seized their attention. In the episode’s last few minutes, after she learned of Jack’s desire to start his own company, Rebecca wondered aloud if they had forgotten anything while shopping. One final shot of the smoke alarm above was all we needed to guess what possibly went wrong and caused the home fire. Did dying alarm batteries affect Jack’s ability to safely escape?

2. The family’s fuse box was acting up

If you flash back to the trio of episodes focusing on each of the triplets, each one replayed the moment when the fuse box malfunctioned from different perspectives. The obvious intention behind showing the same events during these episodes was to explain how Kevin broke his leg, but the fuse box could be a “secret” clue. Seeing as “Clooney” took place soon after Kevin’s injury, the theory that a faulty fuse could start a fire isn’t crazy. The house, which Jack and Rebecca bought while expecting their babies, is also on the older side, suggesting that it was extra susceptible to flames.

3. Miguel was extra vulnerable because his ex-wife was getting remarried

In the Season 2 premiere, we saw Kate and Randall with Miguel while mourning the loss of Jack. Although this episode hinted that Kevin and Miguel are actually more similar than we thought, the kids never seemed particularly close to their dad’s best friend as teenagers. Miguel revealed at the mall that his ex’s boyfriend had just proposed, and it appeared that he felt extremely distant from his own kids as a result. Last week’s episode delved into present-day Miguel’s role in the family — that of an outsider — but perhaps Jack made an effort to include Miguel in Pearson activities during this rough patch in his life. It would add extra oomph to why Kate and Randall were with Miguel in such an emotional time.

4. Randall asked out the redhead

The redheaded girl was seen in that same premiere scene with Kate, Randall and Miguel, but given the assumed short time between Randall asking her out and Jack’s death, her relationship with Randall must become hot and heavy fast. Okay, maybe not hot and heavy, because teenage Randall is a shy sweetheart, but their emotional connection likely developed at a rapid pace. Randall was always mature, and we were reminded in “Clooney” that he started dating Beth at 19 years old. His relationship with the redhead was short-lived, and perhaps the loss of Jack played a part in that, but it’s clear that the two had an intense high school romance.

5. There was lingering focus on Jack and Kevin trying on suits

Jack had to buy a suit for work, and he convinced Kevin to get one for the upcoming school formal. The camera seemed to stay focused on the two wearing their suits for a beat too long. I interpreted it as major foreshadowing of Jack’s death. Although we know that Jack was cremated and couldn’t have been buried in that suit, Rebecca and the kids had a memorial service for him, and it’s quite possible that the suit Kevin bought in this episode was what he wore that day.

The pieces of this Pearson puzzle are coming together, and upcoming episodes are bound to be even more intentional with their storylines.

The Internet is Calling Out Offset from Migos for Homophobic Lyrics in New Song "Boss Life"

The internet is usually the first to call you out when you mess up. Offset, one third of the group Migos, is the latest to come under fire after people listened to his new song with YFN Lucci called "Boss Life."

One line says "I cannot vibe with queers." These lyrics angered the Twitterverse (and rightfully so!), who came after Offset saying he is being homophobic.

Due to the amount of anger swirling around the internet for his use of "queer," Offset recently apologized for the misunderstanding. The rapper claimed the definition of "queer" in the lyric was based of the definition "odd," rather than an offensive term towards the LGBTQ community.

He took to Instagram Stories to reply to the backlash, which are now deleted. According to Vulture, in the Instagram stories, Offset said, "The definition [sic] ain't even that." Though the stories are now gone, he also posted the Google definition of "queer" on his Instagram feed with an apology.

In the post, Offset further explained his point about his use of the word:

"I didn’t write the line about gay people. I have said before since these issues before that I got love for all people. My passion for fashion has lead me to a lot of gay people around me who I have mad respect for and we are very cool so I’m not in a place where I’m hating like that. When I wrote that I was thinking of words that could rhyme with the others (here, lear, solitaire, bear) and I saw this definition about her having a queer feeling she was being watched and it fit what I was thinking about a stalker creepy paparazzi situation. To me that 'queer' I don’t mean someone who’s gay. I mean lame people who film you, post it and stalk you. Lingo that means strange or odd. I M S O R R Y I A P O L O G I Z E I’m offended [sic] I offended anybody."

At least Offset was quick to apologize and provide some explanation for anyone who was angered by the song. Whether you take his apology seriously or not is up to you, but at least he attempted to clarify. The real question is, do you think he's being sincere?

The Situation is Facing 15 Years in Prison for Tax Fraud Amid 'Jersey Shore Family Vacation' Reunion

It looks like one of the stars of Jersey Shore is in a bit of a situation. Michael Sorrentino, also known as Mike 'The Situation' from the reality show is facing 15 years in prison for tax fraud. Sorrentino and his brother Marc have agreed to plead guilty in court on Friday. Mike will be facing 15 years and his brother will be facing up to 25 years.

Apparently the duo originally rejected the offer, but now, they're going with it. The brothers are in this position after avoiding paying all of the federal income tax on the $8.9 million they earned between 2010 and 2012. Other charges include structuring and falsifying records. The Sorrentinos had multiple bank accounts for their cash deposits to avoid reporting them to the IRS. According to People, when Mike was arrested, he said the allegations, "do not portray me accurately. That’s all I can say for now."

The legal trouble Mike is facing right now could mess up the plans for Jersey Shore Family Vacation, an MTV reunion series, which is in the works for sometime this year. We won't know what will happen until Sorrentino's prison time is officially handed to him. Maybe the series will have to simply go on without him.

This is How Tonight's 'Grey's Anatomy' Will Be Different Than Every Other Episode

0
0

Tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy breaks the 300-episode tradition of naming each episode after song titles — and for good reason.

In November's mid-season finale, Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) was rushing to prevent Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) from administering the drug which she discovered would kill his patient. On her way there, she unexpectedly runs into her abusive ex-husband Paul Stadler (Matthew Morrison), and we were all left hanging.

Initially, tonight's episode was set to be named after Crowded House's song "Four Seasons in One Day," but was promptly replaced with "1-800-799-7233," the phone number for the National Domestic Violence Hotline. It was first revealed in the Grey's Anatomy Season 12 finale that Jo was married to an abusive and manipulative husband whom she has been hiding from for years.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Luddington shares that in this episode, "you see [Jo] obviously absolutely horrified that [Paul] has infiltrated her world. When she initially runs into him, she feels like everything is completely turned upside down. It picks up exactly with that same beat walking out of the elevator, and you see her paralyzed."

Although the storyline has been in development for years, with the increased awareness of the Time's Up campaign and retaliation against sexual harassment and abuse, Luddington feels as if the airing of this episode alongside the movement is "serendipitous."

"This story is about a woman that is no longer feeling silenced and finding the strength to use her voice, to be heard, to be believed, to feel empowered," Luddington said to ET. "I think that’s the heart of this story at the end of the day, and that’s exactly what’s going on right now. It just feels crazy that it’s airing during this particular moment, but now I feel like it was meant to be, too."

This episode of Grey's Anatomy will air tonight on ABC.

The '90s Drama 'Party of Five' is Getting a Reboot With an Immigration Twist & I Can't Wait

0

If you've never watched the 1990s family drama Party of Five, drop everything now and head over to Hulu or Netflix — not only because it's a great show, but because it's coming back!

Variety confirmed on Thursday that Freeform put in a pilot order for a reboot of the show, with its original creators, Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman, set to write and produce.

The plot won't be quite the same, though.

In the original Party of Five, the Salinger siblings (yes, five of them) are forced to raise themselves after their parents are killed in a car accident.

In the reboot, a new set of five siblings will also have to raise themselves — this time, because their parents are suddenly deported back to Mexico.

There's no news on a cast yet, but the original is going to be hard to beat. Party of Five launched the careers of Jennifer Love Hewitt, Neve Campbell, Matthew Fox, Lacey Chabert and Scott Wolf.

No matter what, though, I can't wait!

Brace Yourselves: There's An All-Female 'Supernatural' Spinoff Coming

Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) have been following in their father's footsteps and hunting down evil supernatural creatures such as monsters and demons for 13 seasons on Supernatural

In tonight's mid-season premiere, they're in trouble — stuck in "The Bad Place"— and a slew of female characters band together to save them. These characters, Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes), Donna Hanscum (Briana Buckmaster), Alex Jones (Katherine Ramdeen), Claire Novak (Kathryn Newton), Patience Turner (Clark Backo), and Kaia Nieves (Yadira Guevara-Prip), are the focus of the potential spin-off series Wayward Sisters. Tonight's episode will act as a backdoor pilot.

This is one of the first all-female sci-fi genre shows, and Supernatural fans couldn't be more excited.

Should Wayward Sisters be greenlit as a series, executive producer Andrew Dabb stated that hiring female writers, directors and crew members will be an important focus.

I'm 100 percent here for this!

Catch the show tonight at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

A Canadian Woman Who Murdered Her Friend Revealed Her Murder Weapon With A Selfie

In the early morning of March 25, 2015, the body of 18-year old Canadian woman Brittney Gargol was found strangled to death, BBC News reports. Nearly three years later, in a twisted turn of events, Gargol's killer has been sentenced to seven years for manslaughter—all thanks to a selfie between the two best friends that was posted to Facebook, revealing the murder weapon.

Cheyenne Antoine, now 21, pleaded guilty to killing her friend on Monday according to the Toronto Sun, although she doesn't remember the actual events of the killing. What she does remember was that the pair of friends were drunk and high on marijuana, getting into a heated argument after attending a house party together, according to BBC News. Her last memory was leaving the party with Gargol, who took her phone, says the Saskatoon StarPhoenix.

"I will never forgive myself. Nothing I say or do will ever bring her back. I am very, very sorry... It shouldn't have ever happened," Antoine said in a statement that was read in court by defense lawyer Lisa Watson.

The case was "quite mysterious" for about two years, according to a reporter for the StarPhoenix, as Antoine did attempt to divert police from the truth. Her original story was that the two friends went from the house party to some bars, where Antoine then left to go spend time with her uncle, who she asked to go along with her alibi, while Gargol left with an "unidentified" man, according to BBC News.

Antoine even went as far as to leave a Facebook trail, posting a message on Gargol's Facebook page the morning her body was found: "Where are you? Haven't heard from you. Hope you made it home safe."

However, Facebook did leave some truth behind as well, as police noticed in a selfie posted to Facebook only six hours before Gargol's body was found that Antoine was wearing the same belt that was found near to Gargol's body, which was dumped on the side of the road by Cedar Villa Estates, according to the StarPhoenix. Someone eventually came forward to Gargol's family, who said that Antoine came to their home, intoxicated and hysterical, confessing to the crime.

Due to her confession and visible remorse, judge Marilyn Gray sentenced Antoine to seven years for manslaughter rather than her original charge of second-degree murder.

"Honor your friend by becoming a positive member of the community," said Gray. "You owe it to her."

Watson cited Antoine's "deep personal issues," as she has reportedly suffered years of abuse at the hands of her foster parents.

North Korea & South Korea Will March Together At The 2018 Olympics

In an unprecedented rapprochement, North and South Korea are marching under one flag at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, according toThe New York Times. The two countries will also be combining their most talented players to field a women’s ice hockey team, the first allied team since 1991.

Pyeongchang, South Korea is home to this year’s Winter Games and South Korean President Moon Jae-in has been very direct and persistent in his hopes to open dialogue with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un. With the immense tension surrounding North Korea and their recent nuclear and missile tests, this decision provides some form of hope to many.

Earlier on Wednesday, South Korean officials announced, “that the North’s delegation would include at least 550 people, including about 150 to the Paralympic games,” according to The New York Times. The final number of athletes will be announced this Saturday in Switzerland.

While the pool of athletes is large, only two athletes from the North Korea have qualified for the Olympics. Figure skating pair, Ryom Tae-ok and Kim Ju-sik met the deadline to accept their Olympics invitation, but many North Korean did not. However, the international body is still remaining open to accepting wild-card entries.

The spirit of the Olympics has long been one of uniting countries under the common theme of sportsmanship. And with this year’s host country making a statement of inclusively as bold as this, it’s a forceful reminder to us all that we should do the same.

10 Best Stores to Shop For Makeup That Aren't Sephora or Ulta

Walking into a Sephora store is totally dangerous—at least, for the bank account. We're all so obsessed with trying the new Tarte bronzer or Naked palette, but there are actually quite a few amazing cosmetic stores beyond Sephora and Ulta. While we'll always love the staples, here are 10 other places that actually have rockstar beauty products.

1. Target

Their logo is a bulls-eye for a reason. Aside from the typical drugstore brands like Maybelline and NYX, Target also has Pacifica products and Neutrogena makeup remover wipes, which are absolute must-haves. It's a one-stop shopping place for your standard beauty brands.

2. Amazon

Amazon is taking over the world—and their Beauty & Personal Care department is no exception. You can choose between fragrance, makeup, skin care and even luxury beauty. This means you can get Stila and Lorac products online and delivered to your door in two days with Amazon prime. Another perk about buying makeup online? Amazon gives you suggested gifts, so if holiday shopping is in your future, you might want to opt to buy online versus talking to a salesperson behind the counter.

3. Nordstrom Rack

Nordstrom products are known for their superior quality, as they sell high end brands like Clinique and MAC in-store. Nordstrom Rack, however, gets many of the same Nordstrom brands, but at better prices. Yes, that means hello Urban Decay lipsticks and eyeliners for half price. It's a great spot to find everything from NYX Wonder Stick Universal for contouring to Mario Badescu setting spray. You might think the clearance rack only means clothes or Marc Jacobs bags, but Nordstrom Rack offers premium cosmetic brands at lower prices—just make sure the box isn't crushed and the lipstick isn't dented.

4. Urban Outfitters

Urban sells all the trendy chokers, velvet and rompers you could want. But their makeup section isn't half bad either. Yup, they sell the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit ($40) or the NYX Professional Makeup #GLITTERGOALS Kit ($15) if you want something as ~out there~ as your chic denim jacket from Urban Outfitters. I also highly recommend their bh cosmetics 10 Piece Sculpt + Blend 2 Brush Set ($20), which are cruelty-free vegan synthetic brushes. Urban's face masks are always a good option, too, if you want to de-stress.

5. Madewell

Madewell curates its Beauty Cabinet and then photographs the products themselves to show you what they're like. One of their best sellers is the french girl™ lip tint ($16). However, my favorite part about Madewell's cosmetic counter is their blog, Madewell Musings, which features a lot of fun content about beauty and hygiene. Staffers talk about their own beauty routines and some of their fave items—they're trying to keep it authentic by giving us real talk about makeup brands. It's helpful for beginners who want to try out products reviewed by their staff.

6. Anthropologie

Walking into this store means stepping into a wonderland. Whether it's home decor, fringed apparel or quality cosmetic products, Anthropologie provides beautiful and useful goods for college women. It's not just for real adults. Anthropologie's wellness section includes not only makeup, but also body care products, so you can be sure to find salt spray for your hair, thick shea butter for your hands or that creamy lipstick you've been wanting. Some of their top products include Henne Organics Lip Exfoliator ($24) and the Ilia Lipstick Crayon ($24).

7. Hot Topic

I know, hear me out. This place of our middle school horror days has a few redeeming qualities. While their beauty products might not be as long-lasting or good quality as Too Faced or NARS, Hot Topic is an ideal option for one-time makeup for parties and costumes. From the Unicorn Makeup Kit ($6.99) to the Cosmic Eye Palette ($12.90), you can find a lot of vibrant colors and niche products for your New Year's party or Under the Sea themed formal.

8. ipsy

ipsy offers glam bags each month with a surprise bundle of bougie products. You can subscribe and pay $10 a month to get a shipment with five beauty products tailored to your preferences and type. For example, one goodie bag came with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencil in Perversion, Cute Balms Lip Balm in Vanilla, Tarte Cosmetics Deluxe lights, camera, lashes 4-1 Mascara, Hey Honey Trick and Treat: Active Propolis Cream Concealer and Doucce Freematic Highlighter in Solstice. Just check out #glambag if you want to see all the options for yourself.

9. Birchbox

Similar to ipsy, Birchbox has you pay $10 a month to get a mix of five personalized sample products. Their current trend spotlight is Glimmer & Shimmer if you want a touch of pixie dust in your life. Again, Birchbox provides one fab resource for those just starting their makeup collection, because you are able to try a variety of luxurious products from 550 different brands.

10. Dermstore

This online shopping site has it all--and always has free shipping. While Sephora and Ulta offer free shipping on purchases over $50, Dermstore has free shipping with no minimum always, and often has huge site-wide sales where you can save 20-30% on all your favorite brands, including Tarte, bareMinerals, First Aid Beauty, Herbivore Botanicals and more. Plus, when you sign up for their email newsletter, you get 20% your first purchase.

A University of Alabama Student Was Expelled & Kicked Out of Her Sorority After Racist Videos Posted to Her Finsta Went Viral

A University of Alabama student was removed from her sorority and expelled from the university on Wednesday after multiple racist videos, in which she used the n-word multiple times, surfaced on Twitter after she posted them to her private, fake Insta or "finsta" account.

As the Huffington Post reports, in the first video, 19-year-old Harley Barber, a UA student from New Jersey who was reportedly a member of the school's Alpha Phi chapter, can be seen filming herself in front of a bathroom mirror talking about how she doesn't waste water, "because of the poor people in Syria." Things only become more horrible and cringe-worthy from there when she adds, "I love how I act like I love black people because I f*cking hate (n-word)."

In response to the swift backlash she apparently received on the first video, Barber later posted an even more hateful video in which she is cheered on by friends as she repeats the n-word, saying, "I don't care if it's Martin Luther King Day. I'm in the south now so everybody can f*ck off. I'm from New Jersey so I can say (n-word) as much as I want."

For obvious reasons, screen recordings of the videos, which went viral on Twitter, didn't sit well with Barber's fellow students, university administration and basically the entire Internet. In response, University of Alabama students held a protest on campus on Wednesday and the university announced Barber's expulsion not long after.

"The actions of this student do not represent the larger student body or the values of our University, and she is no longer enrolled here," University of Alabama president Stuart R. Bell said in a statement. "We hold our students to much higher standards, and we apologize to everyone who has seen the videos and been hurt by this hateful, ignorant and offensive behavior. This is not who we are; it is unacceptable and unwelcome here at UA."

Damien Harris, a running back on Alabama's football team, took to Twitter to respond to Barber's videos, pointing out that they make it clear that racism is unfortunately alive and well.

Linda Kahangi, the executive director of Alpha Phi, confirmed to the Associated Press that Barber had been removed from the sorority. "Alpha Phi is a diverse, values-based organization and condemns the language and opinions in these videos," Kahangi said in a statement. "They are offensive and hateful to both our own members and to other members of the Greek and campus community."

Meanwhile, Barber has since apologized for the awful videos, telling the New York Post, "I did something really, really bad. I don’t know what to do and I feel horrible. I’m wrong and there’s just no excuse for what I did."

Meghan Markle Referred to Prince Harry as a Feminist & *Swoon*

Just when we thought we couldn't possibly love Meghan Markle and Prince Harry more than we do already (see: the adorable reason they want a banana wedding cake or their super sweet engagement photos), Meghan Markle just made us even *more* obsessed with the royal couple.

During a visit to Cardiff, Wales on Thursday, Meghan and Harry took the time to speak with a few people in the crowds that had gathered in anticipation of their arrival. As People reports, 23-year-old fan Jessica Phillips took the opportunity to let Meghan know how happy she was to have a feminist in the royal family. Of course, Meghan had the perfect response, and we've luckily been #blessed with video evidence of the interaction.

"He’s a feminist too, so there’s that," Meghan can be heard telling the crowd in the video, in reference to her future husband.

"She was so lovely," Phillips later told People. "I said it was really lovely to have a feminist in the royal family, and she said Harry is a feminist too."

ICYMI, Meghan Markle is more than just a stunning AF former actress known for her role in Suits — she's also a badass feminist who was named as a UN Women's Advocate, gave a speech at International Women's Day in 2015 and even wrote to Proctor & Gamble when she was only 11 years old asking the company to fix a super sexist soap ad it ran.

Obviously, all men (royal or not) should consider themselves feminists, but we applaud the royal couple for publicly standing up for gender equality, especially considering other royal family members have traditionally been less outspoken on feminism and their personal politics in general. It seems like Meghan is the woke royal we needed in our lives.

Fans Think Lucy Hale May Have Been Sexually Assaulted After Her Recent Twitter Post

As the #MeToo and Time's Up movements have made clear in recent months, far too many women are victims of sexual harassment, assault and abuse — and fans think the latest upsetting #MeToo story may be Lucy Hale's.

Fans were worried about the Truth or Dare and Pretty Little Liars actress after she took to Twitter and Instagram to post a now-deleted cryptic message about her own experience with sexual assault, which may have implied that she was recently a victim of sexual misconduct herself.

"I deleted it from Instagram. But this needs to be heard," she captioned a screenshot of the notes app on her phone on Twitter.

"I never understood sexual assault until tonight," Lucy wrote in the message. "I always sympathized, but never truly felt the paint [sic] of it until right now. My dignity and pride was broken. I am completely at a loss for words. I feel for anyone that has felt this pain that I feel right now. But I promise. I will not let a moment go by that I don’t try to make a difference."

Confused and concerned, Lucy received an outpouring of support on Twitter from fans who believe she may have recently been sexually assaulted:

Lucy has yet to respond to fans or make any further statements about the now-deleted tweet. Whatever she may be going through right now, we hope the supportive messages from her fans will help her stay strong.
