Sia Posted a Nude Photo of Herself to Keep Someone Else From Selling It

Sia just bared it all on the internet to avoid having her nude photos sold. That's right—Sia posted nudes of herself as a clapback to the person who was trying to make money by selling the photos to her fans.

On Monday night, Sia tweeted a photo of her bare bum—which was apparently taken without her knowledge outside a residence—with the clever caption, "Someone is apparently trying to sell naked photos of me to my fans. Save your money, here it is for free. Everyday is Christmas!" She even snuck in a little self promo as well. "Everyday is Christmas" is the title of her upcoming album.

This isn't the first time Sia's gone nude on social media. Her makeup artist, Tonya Brewer, posted a photo of the pop star with her breast out while on set last month, but the singer clearly didn't care. In this instance, she was partially covered by a banana emoji.

This is true badassery, folks. It takes a lot of confidence to show your body to the world, especially when you're beating nude photo leakers to the punch. Props to Sia.

7 Ways to Reduce Pain During First Time Sex

$

It doesn’t matter who you are ––sex for the first time is a huge deal. Whether you’re preparing to lose your virginity (or have sex with a new partner for the first time), at least a little discomfort is inevitable. After all, everyone is different and sex is a learning process!

So, how can you reduce the amount of pain you feel? We’ve enlisted the help of Laura-Anne Rowell, a sex coach at Primitive Balance, to dish nine secrets on having a more pleasurable experience during your first time.

1. Lower your expectations

Take some time and evaluate your own expectations. What are they? Be wary that popular culture often depicts intercourse as sensual and hot when, in reality, your first time is more likely to be sweaty and uncomfortable.

Believe it or not, unrealistic expectations (even if you don’t consciously realize you have them) can negatively affect your first experience. Go into the act with a clear mind and understand that what you’ll come to define as “good” sex is going to take time, practice and patience to establish.

While you may want to lower your expectations on how the experience will physically feel, you should absolutely have high expectations in terms of a caring partner and consent. Make sure you're absolutely sure that you're emotionally ready! You should never feel pressured by your partner, friends or society into having sex.

2. Find a peaceful space

Everyone is anxious prior to having sex for the first time, so the last thing you need is for the process to be disrupted by outside noises. It is extremely important to feel comfortable physically, mentally and emotionally if you want to maximize pleasure. Create an environment where you and your partner can feel safe and open –– and where you’re sure no one will accidentally barge in.

3. Talk about sex with your partner

Often times, the pressure associated with sexual performance makes the experience more disappointing than it has to be. To combat such pressures, take the time to have a sex talk with your partner beforehand.

We get it: you might feel like talking about the mechanics of sex will make things unromantic or just plain awkward. Make the conversation fun and relaxed. Start with openers like "I like when you do this... now let's try this," or "this hurts... maybe this will feel better!" Learn each other’s pleasure zones. What makes you both feel good? What are your boundaries? Knowing your partner is turned on will inadvertently turn you on more, too.

Communicating beforehand will make you both feel more excited about the experience and, in turn, reduce pain.

4. Start with foreplay

For sex to be enjoyable, you have to be turned on. If you aren’t lubricated (either naturally or with some extra help), it’s going to hurt. Foreplay is a great and extremely fun way to get things started!

It's important to note that foreplay is different for everyone. "The main reason for women to engage in foreplay is not only mental stimulation (getting more in the mood) but for biological reasons (to get wet)," Rowell says. "When a woman is turned on and wet, this makes sex more enjoyable and easier for penetration (less painful)."

Anna*, a sophomore at the University of Maryland, lost her virginity this past summer. “Because my body was so new to penetration, my boyfriend did a lot of fingering to prepare me for, well, the final act,” she says. “Easing into things via foreplay helped to make first-time sex virtually painless for me.”

Keep in mind that not all women get turned on by the same things. "Some women get turned on just by kissing and that is enough foreplay for them to have sex," Rowell says. "Others take longer and want oral play, breast play and soft (or rough depending on your style) caresses before wanting sex."

Before penetration begins, make sure you feel aroused by engaging in foreplay with your partner. Otherwise, you’re going to feel slight pain and discomfort.

5. Take it slow

To help ease into things, make sure you indicate to your partner that you want to take it slow. Be patient with each other, take your time, communicate during the act and learn what feels right ––and what doesn’t.

Kelsey*, a junior at Florida State University, knows just how important it is not to rush into things. “The best thing you can do to reduce any pain is just to be relaxed,” she says. “Don't push it or do it when you don't really want to. Your nerves and hesitancies might make it harder to be "turned on," and that can be painful!” We couldn’t agree more.

If you're having trouble relaxing, try playing soothing music, focusing on your breathing, or simply laughing with your partner. Keep in mind that you can stop at any point if it hurts too much. Never think you have to just "get it over with" or "suck up the pain," sex should be enjoyable for both partners.

6. Experiment with different positions

Once sex is underway, don’t be afraid to experiment with your body positioning. Just because one thing doesn’t feel good doesn’t mean everything won’t feel good! Switch things up (within your comfort zone, of course!) and find what makes the experience most pleasurable for both you and your partner.

According to Rowell, there are three basic positions for starters that provide the most pleasure to the female: missionary, girl on top, or doggie style. "Depending on if you want clitoral stimulation (girl on top) or if you want to feel more relaxed and find it better for g-spot (missionary) or if you want deep penetration (doggie)," she says. "In all these positions, you are able to control and communicate with your partner easily."

Rowell adds that, while there is no right-or-wrong first position, missionary is a good starting place if it's your very first time. If missionary is causing you pain, try placing a pillow under your hips to ease discomfort. "Once you have mastered these, then you can try the variations and learn all the fancy terms," she says.

7. Try again later

Remember, collegiettes: it’s not unexpected for your first time to be less-than-extraordinary. If you’re struggling to get lubricated, your partner can’t maintain an erection or neither of you are reaching orgasm, take a break. You can ––and should–– try again later! The most important thing to do is laugh off the experience and learn from it.

If you find that you have a painful time during your first time, don’t beat yourself up. Take the time to discover what you enjoy sexually, don’t put pressure on yourself and try again when you feel ready! Trust us, when it comes to sex, practice makes perfect.

How to Correctly Wash Your Bra, Because You're Probably Still Doing It Wrong

$

A well-fitting bra is basically the precious gem of intimates; it’s hard enough to find that perfect bra but once you do, you’ll want to keep it as pristine and long-lasting as possible. Washing bras can seem pretty tricky when you want to keep its shape, texture and design intact, and there's also the question about how long you should be wearing it before throwing that thing in the wash. Luckily, we've got the full scoop on how to properly wash your bra so that it stays just as fresh as when you bought it home from the store.

Don't wash them after every wear.

Since most of us wear bras every single day (or not––shoutout to our free spirits), we’d assume we have to wash them that often, right? The reality is that bras tend to lose their shape and integrity the more we wash them, so the longer you can go without washing while still being hygienic, the better. Whether you wear the same bra every day or you alternate, a good practice is to let your bra air out before shoving it back in your musty underwear drawer. This will keep them fresh longer! Sports bras are the only exception to this rule––definitely consider washing them after every workout given the excessive sweat and oil buildup that accumulates around your chest.

Not every bra should be cared for the same.

We’re all tempted to just throw our bras in the laundry and be done with it. However, wires, hooks and straps are all delicate pieces that can get ruined (or ruin other items) in the washer, plus the delicate material of some bras are especially be prone to wearing down in a washing machine. Check the labels on your bra to see if there are specific washing instructions for it. If there aren’t any instructions, consider the type of bra you have and how it will fare in a rough machine. Bras with no wires, padding or extra embellishments hold up fine in the washer, but lace bras or ones with extensive wiring typically need more care. The more decoration, complicated structure and delicate material present makes that bra all the more likely to get ruined in a washer or dryer.

Carefully prep your bra for the washing machine.

Once you figure out which bras are good to go in the washer, still take some extra care prepping them for laundry day. Make sure the bra hooks are all clasped close to prevent them from snagging onto other items, and keep the bra unfolded and open for the best wash. Mesh or lingerie bags are also great for keeping your bra separate from other clothing items, and they actually let your bra breathe better in the wash. Finally, wash your bra on a gentle setting to minimize wear and tear in the washer.

Or handwash your bra if it's delicate.

For the most delicate of the delicates, handwashing is the way to go. If you need to save time, wash your bra with you in the shower. Invest in detergent soap bars, or keep a bottle of detergent with you in the shower, then simply wash your bra while you're letting your conditioner set. If you're not into lazy girl hacks, handwash your bra in the sink and let it soak while you do homework. Whatever method you choose, handwashing your bra works just as well as a washing machine for removing oil and sweat buildup.

Skip the dryer.

After you’ve washed your bra, make sure to air dry it for the best results! Dryers add extra heat, plus more rumble and tumble which can hurt your bras. Instead, hang up your bra or leave it open, facing up and lying flat––do not keep it folded in any way, or it will end up drying in that folded shape.

The bottom line is that if you have to pay extra attention to the way you care for an article of clothing, it should definitely be your bra. The more careful you are about how you maintain your bra, the longer it will last and the less you need to spend on replacing it. Support your bras the way they always support you, ladies.

Kylie Jenner Posted a Full-Body Photo of Herself, & Fans Are More Confused Than Ever About Her Rumored Pregnancy

Kylie Jenner has reportedly been pregnant for months, but the reality star has yet to officially confirm the news. People are beginning to lose their patience, especially after the starlet discredited some telling photos published by MailOnline on Sunday, BuzzFeed reports.

The series of photos on MailOnline was paired with the headline, "PICTURE EXCLUSIVE It's baby Jenner! Kylie debuts her bump for the first time as she hides pregnant figure under baggy clothes." The blurry photos do make it seem like petite Kylie is hiding a baby bump, but could it just be the baggy outfit deceiving us? Kylie took to Twitter to blame Photoshop for the apparent bump, saying that the photos are "clearly altered."

In another response to the unflattering photos, Kylie decided to take a full-body selfie in the same outfit. She posed with big sis Khloé (who is also reportedly pregnant) on her Snapchat story, but neither sister showed any sign of a bump.

Is this the work of expert posing, arm placement and careful clothing choices, or could it be that the youngest of the KarJenner clan is truly not expecting? Naturally the internet had a field day debating the truth, while others were quick to admit their lack of patience with Kylie's months of silence on the topic.

With all the confusion surrounding Kylie's possible pregnancy, it makes sense to take the advice of her fans and just wait for a confirmation from the queen of lip kits. Or we can keep overanalyzing every word, tweet, snap and Insta post from Kylie because that's more fun.

The ACLU Has Zero Chill for Taylor Swift Threatening to Sue a Writer Who Linked Her to White Supremacists

Taylor Swift's reputation is being questioned ironically close to the Friday, Nov. 10 release date of her new album, Reputation. According to The Cut, the singer threatened legal action against a critic who linked Taylor's music to white supremacy, but the ACLU of Northern California has since defended the article in question.

A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on

The trouble started when Taylor's team came across an article written by Meghan Herning, titled, "Swiftly to the alt-right: Taylor subtly gets the lower case kkk in formation." The piece, posted on culture blog PopFront, criticized Swift and her music, claiming that some white supremacists have embraced the singer. Taylor's attorneys decided to take legal action, but the ACLU is fighting back.

A press release from the ACLU states that the writer "received an intimidating letter from Swift and her attorney, labeling the blog post as defamatory and demanding that she issue a retraction, remove the story from all media sources, and cease and desist."

In the face of a possible lawsuit, Herning stood her ground rather than complying with the letter's demands. She said in a statement, “The press should not be bullied by high-paid lawyers or frightened into submission by legal jargon. These scare tactics may have worked for Taylor in the past, but I am not backing down.”

The ACLU declared the article opinion-based, which deems it protected under the First Amendment. ACLU attorney Matt Cagle said Taylor's request is unrealistic. "Intimidation tactics like these are unacceptable. Not in her wildest dreams can Ms. Swift use copyright law to suppress this exposure of a threat to constitutionally protected speech.”

In an artfully worded clapback, the ACLU sent a letter to Taylor's attorney using the singer's lyrics to make their point. “Criticism is never pleasant, but a celebrity has to shake it off, even if the critique may damage her reputation.”

The ACLU has no chill, but Taylor should focus on promoting her new album to the millions of fans who love her, rather than drawing attention to one critic who is practicing her freedom of speech.

With Syria Signing On To The Paris Climate Agreement, The U.S. Is The Odd Man Out

Today it was announced that Syria agreed to the Paris Climate Accord, the New York Times reports.

Syria’s Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Environment, M. Wadag Katmawi, said per CNN,“I confirm that the Syrian Arab Republic supports the implementation of Paris climate change accord, in order to achieve the desired global goals and to reflect the principles of justice and shared responsibility, but in accordance with the capabilities of each of the signatories.”

After Nicaragua signed its approval last month, this officially leaves the United States to be the only country out of the 200 involved to not sign the agreement.

ICYMI, the Paris Climate Accord was brought to life in December of 2015 to tackle climate change issues and find ways to live in a more sustainable world. The United States has previously been in agreement when President Obama was in office but with the change in leadership, the U.S. has backed out and since wanted to negotiate.

Back in June, according to Quartz, President Trump stated that “we will see if we can make a deal that’s fair. And if we can, that’s great. If we can’t, that’s fine.”

According to the Washington Post, Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club, said “As if it wasn’t crystal clear, every single other country in the world is moving forward together to tackle the climate crisis, while Donal Trump’s has isolated the United States on the world stage in an embarrassing and dangerous position.”

Authorities Are Now Investigating Why 26 Teen Girls From Nigeria Were Found Dead At Sea

On Sunday, 26 girls, ages 14-18, were found dead in the Mediterranean Sea after their boat sank, The Washington Post reports, with authorities believing they were heading to Italy from Libya.

Libya is a large port for people fleeing Africa right now and a hotspot for human trafficking, as The Post notes, and authorities believe the girls were Nigerian.

The police chief of Salerno, Lorena Ciccotti told CNN that there would be autopsies and that there would be an investigation into if the girls were possibly tortured or sexually abused.

Salvatore Malfi, a top official in Salerno told Agence France-Presse  (AFP) that the girls deaths were a tragedy and said that, as investigations into whether there was foul play involved continue, police “need to see whether there are suspects to concentrate on or whether the murder inquiry will proceed against persons unknown.”

Malfi added to AFP that 23 of the girls were found near a dinghy that had reportedly sank over the weekend, however, he believed "they were on a dinghy that was also carrying men."

Responding to concern that the boat may have been part of sex trafficking, however Malfi said "The sex trafficking routes are different. Loading women onto a boat is too risky, the traffickers would not do it as they could lose all their 'goods' -- as they describe them -- in one fell swoop."

Over the weekend, there were four rescue operations in the Mediterranean ocean with 400 people alone being saved aboard the Spanish ship, Cantabria, AFP reports. It’s a high trafficked route because migrants can hopefully hit shores in Italy, Greece, and other European countries. However, it’s also an extremely dangerous journey.

This year alone, 2,839 migrants have reportedly died trying to travel the Mediterranean, according to the International Organization for Migration.

Everything You Need to Know About Masturbating During Your Period

$
0
0

Yes, period talk can make some people squeamish. But periods are natural curses functions that most women experience, so we really shouldn’t treat periods like a forbidden topic anymore.

Let’s face it, masturbation is completely normal too (despite the stigma surrounded around it). So why shouldn’t we combine the two?

After all, Planned Parenthood says that most women are exceptional horny during their periods. It just wouldn’t make sense that we would deprive ourselves — because masturbation is essentially self-care — just because we’re bleeding a bit (or a lot).

While you might still be a bit shy about masturbating during your period, we’re here to set the story straight and debunk any weird myths. Plus, masturbation is more than just a fun past time — doing so can actually make your period bearable.

1. It helps relieve pain

Seriously, who wouldn’t want to temporarily relieve period cramps without chasing your Advil with more Advil? According to Dr. Jackie Stone, one of Maven Clinic’s on-staff OB-GYNs, masturbating during your period can actually help alleviate cramps.

“Orgasms in general decrease pain levels through the release of oxytocin and endorphins. Women who have more regular orgasms have more regular menstrual periods, so this would also be a benefit,” Dr. Jackie Stone explains.

Because an orgasm distributes oxytocin, which acts as a neurotransmitter and overall natural painkiller, the more orgasms you have before and during your period (whether from the help of your hand or your partner) the less pain you’ll generally have.

Likewise, studies show that masturbation — or sexual activity in general — can help treat migraines and headaches. While headaches and migraines obviously aren’t exclusive to your time of the month, certain period-related conditions (like Premenstrual dysphoric disorder, also known as PMDD) can make headaches more prevalent before, during and after your monthly gift visits.

Seeing as you’re more vulnerable to pain during your period, why wouldn’t you masturbate it away?

Related: PMS: What Causes It, How to Avoid It & How to Deal

2. It helps you fall asleep

While you might not normally experience insomnia, the 85 percent of women who suffer from premenstrual syndrome or PMS have a difficult time falling asleep during their period.

Dr. Jackie Stone explains that oxytocin and endorphin, which are released after the initial dopamine from an orgasm, can be attributed to why many women fall asleep easily after masturbating (because oxytocin and endorphins are soothing hormones).

Because these hormones also help to ease pain, they can help PMDD or PMS-induced insomnia and fatigue. Now you can just tell your roommates that all that “buzzing” in your room is from your new sleep “remedy.”

3. It’s perfectly safe (and obviously fun)

This should go without saying, but you can’t get a STD or STI from masturbating, regardless of what time of the month it is. Your period blood isn’t gross or unsanitary (as long as you clean up afterward, of course.)

If you’re still hesitant about paddling the pink canoe and risking getting a bit of blood on your new manicure, you can always opt to use some toys instead. While you shouldn’t be ashamed of your own blood, we get it if it isn’t your thing. After all, you shouldn’t do anything that makes you uncomfortable.

4. You don’t have to worry about making a mess

We get it, when you have your period and obviously there’s blood, but that doesn’t mean you have to worry about a mess when you masturbate. You just have to masturbate strategically to avoid any mess.

Obviously, if getting some blood on your hands (literally) isn’t a big deal, you don’t have to worry about masturbating any differently when you’re on your period. However, if some blood makes you a bit queasy, you can focus your “you time” on stimulating your clitoris (rather than focusing on penetration from your fingers or dildo. But we get it, different flicks for different chicks.

Don’t worry, you don’t need to make an ordeal about your period masturbation sesh (unless you want to), instead you can use a vibrator on your clit while you leave in your tampon.

If you don’t wear tampons, you can always hop in the shower while you pleasure yourself and let the water rinse away any of the blood that comes out. Shower multitasking is the best kind of multitasking, right?

However, if you’re still iffy about pleasuring yourself during your period, you can always throw on a pair of period panties and use a bullet vibrator over your underwear. There’s no mess and you don’t have to worry about wasting water in the shower.

After all, an orgasm is an orgasm (regardless of whether your fingertips or your vibrator got your there). Customize your own period masturbation routine, so you can finally stop dreading your period.

5. There’s seriously no repercussions

“There is no evidence that sex or masturbation during menstruation can prolong your period or have any negative effects,” Dr. Jackie Stone explains.

Seriously, your periods aren’t going to become heavier or more painful or longer just because you had a few orgasms during your period. So rewards of period masturbationg clearly outweigh the nonexistant risks.

The only benefit you’re missing from masturbating during your period is effortly glowing skin (though the flushed-just-had-sex skin might be close enough).

6. It gives you some much-needed self-care

Seriously, you might not feel the sexiest during your period, which is why you need to practice some self-care.

Beyond the fact that being able to satisfy yourself (regardless of the time of the month) is extremely empowering, masturbating is an exceptional way to de-stress, and masturbating during your period is no different.

Nevertheless, we understand that masturbation and periods (and masturbating during your period) are sensitive subjects that you might feel embarrassed to openly discuss with anyone. Thankfully, there are several women health organizations and overall women-centric organizations, which welcome personal questions about your health and sex life (no matter how awkward you think your inquiries might be).

  • Planned Parenthood: Seriously, there are plenty of Planned Parenthood clinic across the United States, and they’re eager to ensure that you’re healthy and informed about your body.

  • Maven Clinic: Maven is a women’s health company that focuses on making women's lives easier by providing private access to its network of over a 1000 healthcare. You can have a video chat with an OB-GYN without having to worry about actually leaving your apartment (plus you can even get prescriptions for birth control and other necessary medication through the website and app).

  • Lemonaid: Lemonaid is another women’s health website and app that allows customers to get prescriptions and obtain some answers from their qualified medical professionals. While the services are currently only available to residents of certain states, the business plans to expand.

After all, sometimes we might not ask our usual gynecologists about every question in the book (probs because we forget during our actual exams), so it’s relieving to be able to access a doctor virtually.

Regardless, you should never feel ashamed about masturbating during your period. We get it, you might still feel iffy about the prospect of you shoving your hand down your panties for a quick “headache relief sesh,” but your period blood is only a big deal if you make it a deal big.

Although masturbating during your period might seem like it requires a night of planning, all you really need to do is throw a towel down and think about that cute TA from freshman year.

Nancy & Jonathan from 'Stranger Things' Might Be Dating IRL & No, This Is Not a Drill

Stranger Things fans, get ready to lose your chill. In case you're bummed because you already made it through binge watching season two, we have some good news to cheer you up: Nancy and Jonathan, a.k.a. Charlie Heaton and Natalia Dyer, might be dating IRL.

Us Weekly reports that the two were spotted on vacation in Paris over the weekend holding hands (and generally looking adorable AF together). While there's been some speculation that Heaton and Dyer were dating as early as January of this year, these latest photos of them, which also show Charlie with his arm around Natalia and the maybe-couple sharing a pair of headphones, all but seem to confirm the rumors.

Of course, fans are absolutely thrilled about the whole thing:

Heaton and Dyer have yet to confirm anything for sure, which is understandable considering all the current Stranger Things buzz happening following the drop of season two, but let's just say their chemistry definitely isn't limited to the screen.

What to Stream When You Need a Good Cry

$

0

Sometimes life just makes you feel like you’re constantly being dragged through the mud. Blame it on a mid-semester slump, financial trouble, love drama or a perennial job hunt, but every now and then we just need a good cry about our lives. I rarely have random meltdowns when I’m having a rough time, but if I switch on certain TV shows, it’s not long before the waterworks start.

There’s nothing better than curling up in bed and picking out a new show to watch, so here’s your solution to combining your TV time with your emotional needs. I apologize for any unusual amounts of money spent on tissues.

1. Call the Midwife

Available on: Netflix

It may take you a while to get into this BBC drama, but I promise that you’ll soon find childbirth and English nuns the most beautiful combination ever. Call the Midwife is a heartfelt, empowering show set in the 1950s and ‘60s that emphasizes the importance of female friendships and the natural strength that women have. You may cry happy tears at the birthing scenes, but the way the show covers difficult subjects such as Down syndrome, domestic abuse and alcoholism is absolutely heartbreaking.

2. The West Wing

Available on: Netflix

You could certainly cry over this show if you desperately miss the days of a normal presidency, but what always gets me on The West Wing is the genuine love and care the White House senior staff have for each other and President Bartlett. This political drama usually ends with very stirring monologues that, depending on the circumstances, can make you sob but will still leave you feeling hopeful. Watch out for Season 1’s Christmas episode about a homeless Korean War vet’s death if you’re feeling particularly vulnerable.

3. This Is Us

Available on: Hulu

If you’ve heard anything about this show, it’s its ability to make anybody weep like a baby. Exploring a family’s past and present and how the two timelines relate, This Is Us has the power to make you cry about your widowed grandpa one week and your struggles with anxiety the next week. I made the cathartic decision (mistake?) to binge the first season’s last few episodes in a row, and it was…a wet experience, to say the least.

4. Doctor Who

Available on: Amazon Prime

At first glance, a show about a time-traveling alien and his human companions likely wouldn’t be your cure for a teary mood. But the message behind these episodes is often about the importance of humanity, and the Doctor and his team’s valiant attempts to save galaxies on a regular basis will definitely get you misty-eyed. While some episodes are just fun romps through the universe, look to any of the season finales for intense storylines and a definite cry. This upcoming year, the show is introducing its first female Doctor, which is all the more reason to start watching now!

5. black-ish

Available on: Hulu

The ABC comedy has always bravely tackled issues of racism, but has recently covered fiercely relatable topics such as Donald Trump’s election, African-American representation in the media and the controversy of Columbus Day. Seeing as the actors are likely thinking of their own personal experiences in some of the show’s situations, black-ish definitely hits home when you need to cry over harsh reality.

6. Parenthood

Available on: Netflix

Before there was This Is Us, the standard, weepy family drama on TV was Parenthood. With a cast that includes Lauren Graham, Dax Shepard and Mae Whitman, Parenthood explores the relationships among a multigenerational family that faces Asperger syndrome, breast cancer and more. It may not have Milo Ventimiglia or flashbacks to the 1990s, but it definitely has what it takes to stir up a therapeutic cry.

7. Scrubs

Available on: Hulu

Okay, I get that Grey’s Anatomy is everyone’s go-to medical show and that it still has the power to make everyone cry. But can I just point out that doctors once counted Scrubs as the most realistic medical TV show? They recognized narrator J.D.’s self-doubt and reflective manner of dealing with patients and appreciated the way hospital life was portrayed. On top of its more grounded storylines, Scrubs combines ridiculous humor with tear-jerking reality. Forget dramatic deaths à la McDreamy if you watch Scrubs—you’re more likely to cry over J.D. losing his favorite patient to cancer, even though the death was totally expected. Episodes like “My Screw Up,” “My Old Lady” and “My Catalyst” make me particularly weepy.

8. The Fosters

Available on: Netflix

Like with black-ish, the Freeform drama covers true-to-life situations that members of its multi-ethnic, blended family encounter. The Fosters most recently addressed DACA, so although it may feel too close to reality sometimes, seeing an active response on TV to today's greatest issues is enough to stir up all the feels.

9. How I Met Your Mother

Available on: Netflix and Hulu

What started out as a fun, retrospective story about Ted Mosby’s long path toward meeting his wife turned into one of the most emotional sitcoms ever by its last few years. Episodes such as “Bad News,” “How Your Mother Met Me” and “Time Travelers” include real, heartbreaking issues that everyone faces in some way throughout life. Given that HIMYM expertly combines heartache and joy, it’s the perfect cure for when you’re feeling blue. Although it’s leaving Netflix on Nov. 13, the show will still be available to stream on Hulu.

10. Law & Order: SVU

Available on: Netflix (Seasons 14-17) and Hulu (full series)

I personally can’t handle SVU, but there’s no doubt that its portrayal of New York City sex crimes and their victims is so brutally realistic that any episode would likely bring out tears you’re suppressing. Not only is Olivia Benson almost guaranteed to save the day, Law & Order often creates storylines from actual news, so watching the show can be a cathartic way of dealing with your stress over the world’s state.

11. Lost

Available on: Netflix

Lost definitely isn’t for everyone, but I recommend sticking through the first few episodes to see these characters fight for survival after their plane crashes on a mysterious island. Lost was one of the first major dramas to regularly use flashbacks as a storytelling device, and like This Is Us, it largely consists of characters’ relationships with their families and past selves. It’s not hard to grow attached to Flight 815’s survivors, which makes each season an emotional rollercoaster as their numbers diminish and they’re forced to see ugly truths about themselves and each other.

12. Friday Night Lights

This drama isn’t available on any major streaming outlets anymore, but it seems to appear on Netflix pretty frequently. If you’ve spent any time on the internet, you probably know that the saying “clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose” traces back to this beloved series. Depicting the residents of a small southern town who live for their high school football team, Friday Night Lights has the perfect mix of relatable teen angst and heart-wrenching trauma.

13. Glee

Available on: Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime

I sometimes forget Glee was a thing because it just feels like it came from a much simpler time. Whether it’s the cast’s baby faces in the first season or the tribute episode following Cory Monteith’s death that gets you teary, Glee is equally heartbreaking and happy. Plus, what makes you feel better more than a singalong to the cast’s glee club performances?

14. Nashville

Available on: Hulu

Basically, any show starring Connie Britton has the potential to be a tearjerker. The show’s most recent traumatic twist aside, Nashville portrays women finding their own inner strength while chasing their dreams. Like with Glee, it also has musical moments that add extra emotional punch.

15. Downton Abbey

Available on: Amazon Prime

Aka the show that made period dramas cool again. If you somehow missed the original run of Downton Abbey or even if the show's last years just blended together for you, it's a perfect concoction of scandal, elegance and heartbreak. I was a sobbing mess for most of Season 3, but all of the six seasons have plenty of tragedy to help you express your emotions.

Florida State University Has Suspended All Greek Life Activities Following a Fraternity Pledge's Death

Florida State University announced Monday that it would be suspending all fraternity and sorority activities indefinitely after a fraternity pledge died and a member of another fraternity was arrested, The New York Times reports.

In two unrelated incidents, 20-year-old Pi Kappa Phi pledge Andrew Coffey was found unresponsive Friday morning following a Pi Kappa Phi party in a house off campus, and Garrett John Marcy, a member of FSU's Phi Delta Theta chapter was arrested for selling cocaine. Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo told CNN it was likely alcohol played a role in Coffey's death, but that the police were waiting on autopsy results to confirm any further details.

In response, FSU president John Thrasher announced all Greek life activities, including chapter meetings, social events and philanthropy would be suspended for all 55 fraternities and sororities on campus until students made the commitment to change their behavior.

"For this suspension to end, there will need to be a new normal for Greek Life at the university," Thrasher said in a statement. "There must be a new culture, and our students must be full participants in creating it."

FSU isn't the first school this year to lose a student to a hazing-related death in a Greek life organization. Penn State freshman Timothy Piazza died earlier this year after being left unconscious for twelve hours while pledging Beta Theta Pi, and 10 Phi Delta Theta members at Louisiana State University were arrested after a pledge was killed by alcohol poisoning in September.

Florida State has said the ban will only be lifted once students have demonstrated a commitment to working with the university to prevent dangerous behavior in the future. "They must work with us and demonstrate they fully understand the serious obligation they have to exercise responsible conduct," Thrasher said.

Fans Think a Taylor Swift & Selena Gomez Song Collab May Be on Its Way

We're officially two and a half days away from the release of Taylor Swift's highly-anticipated album Reputation. As singles like "Look What You Made Me Do," have indicated, we can already tell it will spill plenty of tea on Tay's exes, feuds and drama — but one thing we didn't realize we might be able to look forward to? A possible collaboration song with Selena Gomez.

As Hello Giggles reports, fans were freaking out on Tuesday when Scott Borchetta, the president and CEO of Taylor's record label Big Machine Records, took to Twitter to share a teaser video for Reputation — which seems totally normal at first glance, until Swifties started noticing that Borchetta also tagged none other than Selena Gomez. Um, excuse me but what does this mean?!

Naturally, Swifties were also quick to pick up on the fact that Selena was mysteriously tagged. (If Borchetta was trying to be sneaky, he clearly failed.)

Selena also reportedly got dibs on hearing Taylor's newest album early a few weeks ago, so maybe Borchetta was just trying to get the opinion of Taylor's trusted squad member? Either way, something is definitely up.

As if the two day wait for Reputation wasn't killing us enough already, a possible collab with Selena is making the wait even more difficult. BRB, I'll just be over here conducting a thorough investigation and obsessively checking Selena and Taylor's Twitters for the next two days.

5 Things College Tour Guides Wish They Could Tell You

One of the best ways to find out if a college is the right fit for you is actually visiting in person. But once you’re there, it’s easy to get lost and look around at a gorgeous campus and think, Now what?

You’ll better understand the school and the campus if you sign up for a campus tour led by an actual student. However, these tours don’t always tell the whole story. Your guide might cover the history of the school, some of their traditions, what various buildings around campus are home to and other pamphlet-worthy fun facts.

“I usually just cover a few major areas: academics, social life and opportunities,” says Margaret Meserve, a junior and a tour guide at the University of Notre Dame. “I talk for pretty much an hour and a half straight, so I cover a lot of ground. I’ll throw a few jokes and stories in there to spice things up.”

Yet a guided tour sponsored by the university might not explain the social scene or what it’s really like to endure your first finals week in college. While campus tours are a great way to get familiar with the school and its culture, even tour guides wish they could share more realistic information with prospective students.

For instance, Alexis O’Neil, a sophomore and a tour guide at Villanova University, says the tour highlights a lot of the basic academic facilities, residence halls and student hot stops. She also explains the respective colleges within Villanova.

“In each building we talk about the four respective colleges we have here at Villanova-- Liberal Arts and Science, Nursing, Engineering and Business,” she says. “Between walking to buildings we talk about things that are unique to Villanova like Special Olympics, orientation and Greek life.”

But what parts of the collegiette experience do schools leave out on their tours?

1. College is fun

Villanova, like many other schools, doesn’t discuss the social aspect of college during tours unless someone specifically asks.

“It is a touchy subject that many schools tend not to talk about on campus tours because often the goal is to showcase the academic aspect of the university,” Alexis explains.

Most tour guides aren’t about to tell you which frats throw the best parties, which bars underclassmen can get into or the best way to make friends.

To find out a little bit more about the school’s campus culture, asking questions like “What does a typical Wednesday look like and what does a typical Saturday look like?” will give you some idea of what students do for fun. For example, do people tend to stay on campus for social events or do they venture into the surrounding area? Is there a lot to do off campus? You’ll be able to get an accurate picture of what day to day life is like and what to look forward to as a student.

2.  In the end, college is still school

In addition to the social scene shift from high school to college, there is also a significant change in workload. Many high school students fail to recognize this abrupt transition. For one thing, there are fewer assignments, so tests and papers carry a lot more weight on your final grade. Making prospective students aware of the work ahead would allow them to better adjust their expectations for college and study appropriately when the time comes.

“I personally struggled with the change of workload from high school [because] you have many more grades and assignments that ultimately make up your final grade,” Alexis says. “In college it is often [just] a midterm, a final and a few papers. This gives more weight to each assignment and less opportunities to bring your grade up. I wish I knew this before my first semester so I could have studied accordingly.”

And while you may be excited at the idea of going out, making friends and tailgating on Saturdays, you have to remember you’re going to need time to study during the week, too. Going into freshman year with this balanced mindset will save you stress, sleep and studying by cramming when your first exam rolls around. Tour guides will also be able to elaborate on the academic culture at their school, so you can see if the college’s focus on school matches your own.

3. Tour guides are just regular students

While they might come across as perfectly put together college students, the people leading your tours are just that--people. They’re normal college students, and there’s a chance you or someone you know might be one of them someday.

“When we introduce ourselves, we all highlight the coolest things we’ve done,” explains Margaret. “It makes it seem like we’re super cool and accomplished, but really it’s the one time a week I feel like I can brag a little.”

One of the goals of highlighting the tour guides’ accomplishments is to show you everything you can get involved with as a student at that particular school; it’s not supposed to be an intimidation factor. If one of the students giving a tour is involved with something that sparks your interest, make sure to ask them about it! Chances are they’ll be glad you did, and they’ll be happy to talk about something they’re passionate about.

4. College isn’t perfect

Sure the brochures, gorgeous tours and social media posts from older friends might make college seem like the time of your life, but it has its challenges as well. There’s school work to be done, friends to be made and a healthy lifestyle to maintain, none of which are a walk in the park.

“I wish I could be more honest about some of the cons that I usually gloss over,” Margaret says. “Like how late I really have to stay at the library and how I haven’t seen a strawberry in three months. College is confusing. It’s one of the hardest things you’ll do academically and the transition is always a little awkward. But it’s also one of the best things you’ll ever experience.”

You’ll get homesick, you’ll get actually sick and you’ll face a lot of ups and downs, especially freshman year. College isn’t all partying and socializing, but it’s not all studying either. It’s a never-ending balancing act where you learn the simple everyday moments, like random dance parties with your roommates or actually enjoying a class you’re in, are what make your college experience worthwhile.

5. Everything will work out in the end

High school is a stressful time between standardized tests, extracurricular activities and regular schoolwork, not to mention social opportunities. Then there’s the college application process, where it seems like everyone is asking the same question: Where are you going to school next year? And you still don’t have an exact answer.

“I often tell high school students on my tours that everything works out in the end,” Alexis explains. “Junior and senior year of high school are extremely stressful times for students and parents between [the] SAT/ACT and college tours then ultimately making a decision.”

Additionally, Alexis ends her tour by telling members of her group to take the college process one step at a time and why she loves her school. Both she and Margaret say Notre Dame and Villanova end every tour with their “Why this school” story.

Every tour guide wants you to love their school just as much as they do, but they also have your best interests at heart. They want you to end up where you belong, and hopefully that happens to be their school.

How She Got There: Kerry O'Brien, CEO & Founder of Commando

Name: Name: Kerry O'Brien
Job Title and Description: CEO, Founder and Designer of Commando
College Name/Major: Bentley University, Business Communication
Website: WearCommando.com
Twitter Handle: @CommandoKerry
Instagram Handle: @commandokerry

What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?

KO: A typical day? No such thing— thank goodness!! I am both the designer and the CEO of my company, so a day could involve working with the design team to develop the next season's collection, reviewing business performance with my management team, or meeting with the press.

What is the best part of your job?

KO: Finding inspiration. I love traveling and I search the world for the best new ideas and trends for commando. I keep my eyes open everywhere, and I am always looking for the unexpected.

What was your first entry-level job in your field and how did you get it?

KO: My first job in my field was starting my own company! Seriously! My background is in financial public relations, and I had never worked in fashion before launching commando. I learned a lot fast. I had to. But I've never looked back.

What words of wisdom do you find most valuable?

KO: I have a few mottos, but my current favorite is "when in doubt, check it out.” There have been so many times when I've been tempted to pass on a meeting or an event, but I get myself up and I go. I don't think I've ever regretted it. Some of my best connections and ideas have come from things I almost skipped.

What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?

KO: I very rarely cut corners, but when I do, I always regret it.

What has been the most surreal moment of your career thus far?

KO: It has to be Serena Williams wearing nothing but a commando thong on the cover of Vanity Fair. We didn't know it was happening because Serena brought the thong to the shoot herself. And when I saw the magazine, I thought, "Here is the most amazing athlete in the world, being photographed by the most amazing photographer in the world, and she is wearing nothing but my underwear." The image exuded confidence, which is core to the commando brand. It's what we work for every day.

What do you look for when considering hiring someone?

KO: Energy, energy, energy. And ambition. I want them to want my job. I also look for evidence that they are willing to work hard. Like really hard. When I was in college, I interned every summer and one year, I was offered an internship at both CNN and Nightline. Instead of choosing, I did both and worked double time.

What advice would you give to a 20-something with similar aspirations?

KO: Jump on every opportunity, raise your hand for every project, and don't expect anyone to hand you anything. When I was coming up in public relations, I never left the office before my boss did, and I was always already doing the job I was being promoted to.

HC Wake-Up Call: Virginia Elects First Openly Trans State Lawmaker, Trump on Gun Laws & Stanford Rape Site to Be Turned into a Memorial for the Victim

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

Virginia Has Elected Its First Openly Transgender State Lawmaker

In case you were losing hope for 2017, we have some *good* news: Democrat Danica Roem defeated Republican Bob Marshall in the race for Virginia's 13th district seat in the Virginia House of Delegates, and she will officially become the state's first openly transgender state lawmaker, the Huffington Post reports. The best part? Marshall, an incumbent for the seat, wrote Virginia's anti-trans bathroom bill preventing transgender public school students from using the bathroom of their choice. "Danica defeated ‘Bigot Bob’ Marshall not because she is transgender, but because she presented a positive vision for her constituents that will improve their lives," Aisha Moodie-Mills, president of the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, told HuffPost in a statement.

President Trump Claims Stronger Gun Laws Would Have Made No Difference in the Texas Shooting

During a press conference in South Korea on Tuesday, President Trump claimed that tougher gun laws would have left, "hundreds more dead," in the Texas shooting that killed 26 people on Sunday. When asked about the shooting, Trump started by saying it was, "a situation that probably shouldn't be discussed right now." Despite this, the president continued to discuss the shooting, referring to Stephen Willeford, the Sutherland Springs man who fired at shooter Devin Kelley during the attack with his rifle. "I can only say this: If he didn’t have a gun, instead of having 26 dead, you would have had hundreds more dead," Trump said.

Meanwhile, following last week's terror attack in New York City, the president was quick to advocate for stricter vetting policies when it comes to individuals entering the United States.

Stanford Turned the Site of the Brock Turner Rape into a Memorial for the Victim

It's been three years since Stanford swimmer Brock Turner raped an anonymous victim, Emily Doe, behind a dumpster after a fraternity party. And while many parts of the case, including the fact that Turner only served three months of his appalling six month sentence, were horrifying, Stanford is stepping up to honor the survivor and turn the site of the assault into a peaceful place. With Emily's permission, Stanford law professor Michele Landis Dauber has turned the area into a garden and memorial site in Emily's honor — it will even be inscribed with a portion of the 12-page letter Doe wrote about her horrific experience.

Chris Hurst, Whose Girlfriend Was Killed In On-Air Shooting In 2015, Just Won A Seat In VA's House of Delegates

$

On Tuesday, Democrat Chris Hurst won Virginia’s 12th district, unseating three-term incumbent and Republican, Joseph Yost.

Many locals knew Hurst as the regional channel 7 WDBJ evening news anchor, who stepped down from his position after his girlfriend and colleague at the station, Allison Parker, was shot and killed during a live news taping in 2015. Parker’s cameraman, Adam Ward was killed as well.

Following his victory, Hurst told the Huffington Post, “I owe the residents of southwest Virginia a debt of gratitude that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to repay. But this seems like something worthy of what they did for me.”

This Democratic victory is one of many for the state of Virginia but Hurst wanted to ensure voters that the party in which he ran under, was not one he would stand behind blindly. He opposed the construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline, a project that House Democratic leader and Governor-elect Ralph Northam have supported.

“That actually shows his strength that he is willing to go against a Democratic governor if it hurts the constituents in his district,” house leader, David Toscano said of Hurst in July.

Hurst also ran on the platform of protecting reproductive rights, increasing funding for rural schools and expanding Medicaid by using funds from the Affordable Care Act.

However, many voters were curious about Hurst’s stance on gun violence and what he would do, considering his personal tie to the issue. CNN reported that addressing gun violence would be a priority following the large Democratic win in Virginia and that Hurst would bring the matter to the forefront.

"Every single idea that could possibly address and reduce the number of people dying from gun homicide, suicide and accidental fire deaths, I think, is finally on the table," Hurst said.

Andrea Jenkins Is The First Openly Trans Black Woman To Hold Public Office & Her Victory Made History

On Tuesday evening, Andrea Jenkins won her seat as a Minneapolis City Council member and made history, as the first openly transgender woman of color elected to public office in the United States, according to The Hill

Jenkins work in public office began as a policy aide for the council’s Vice President. She used her experience to win Minneapolis’s Eighth Ward and ran on the platform of addressing youth violence and improving the south-central ward’s neighborhoods, according to The Washington Post. Jenkins also worked with local business investors, advocates and artists to redevelop the intersection of E. 38th Street and. Chicago Avenue S.

And because of her work and track record, Jenkins won her seat by more than 70 percent of the vote, according to the Star Tribune in Minnesota.

Joining Danica Roem, the other trans woman politician who defeated an incumbent who described himself as a "chief homophobe" for a seat in the Virginia State legislature, Jenkins' victory comes as a reminder that marginalized voices have always been politically engaged and have always been deserving of a seat at the table.

“Transgender people have been here forever, and black transgender people have been here forever," Jenkins told The Washington Post. "I’m really proud to have achieved that status, and I look forward to more trans people joining me in elected office, and all other kinds of leadership roles in our society.”
