8 Ways To Wear Your Favorite Summer Pieces This Fall

$
0
0

As much as we love summer vacation (or the summer internship grind), autumn is almost here. As the leaves change and PSLs pop up on the Starbucks menu, it can be tempting to take “sweater weather” literally. But just because temperatures are dropping, it doesn’t mean you have to drop your summer clothes, too. (Well, your avocado swimsuit might have to go.) Plus, more outfit options means you can push back laundry day (the chore we all love to hate). So don’t pack up your warm-weather clothes just yet—take our advice on how to transition those favorite summery pieces into next season.

1. Sundresses

A sundress is actually one of the most versatile pieces in your closet, and shouldn’t be banished to a dusty hanger in the back once September hits. Just swap out your denim jacket for something a little cozier and throw a cardigan on top instead. Add some rain boots or a beanie for an extra autumnal look.

You can also try layering it over another shirt to stay warm without covering up the dress itself.

If it’s a little too warm for a cardigan, but too cold to rock bare shoulders, a button-up shirt might be just right for layering. Tie it in a cute knot to highlight your waist.

2. Shorts

Shorts over tights is a bold look, but one worth trying this fall. Whether you’re going with plaid, denim, or high-waisted, just coordinate your outfit like you normally would, then slip a pair of tights on underneath to stave off the autumn chill. It’s such a Serena van der Woodsen look! Plus, no one will be able to tell you didn’t shave your legs. Stick with black tights (and shoes!) so they don't overwhelm the rest of your outfit.

3. Romper

Just throw on a snuggly grandpa sweater and you’re good to go! This isn’t an #OOTD you see every day, but all you need to pull it off (and inspire campus around you to take a fashion risk as well) is a healthy dose of confidence. Striding down the quad listening to a killer playlist wouldn’t hurt either.

You can also add tights or leggings once the temperature drops a little.

4. Tank top

It might be too chilly on campus to rock such a strappy style—or so you thought. Just slip a snug-fitting t-shirt under your cami and you’ve got a chic combo that totally gives us Cher Horowitz from Clueless vibes. The 90s are back!

5. White jeans

You can rock white jeans after Labor Day with just a few easy tips. First, autumn means darker colors, so balance out the bright white of your jeans with shades like burgundy or navy. This contrast will make the outfit look polished and sophisticated—not like all your other jeans are in the wash. Also, try booties or heels instead of flats to keep your hemline safe from dust, dirt, and puddles.

Don't be afraid to incorporate some bolder shades, too! Keep the rest of your outfit neutral so your crimson heels or cobalt blue bag can pop. Finally, don't forget to throw a stain-remover stick in your bag just in case—better safe than sorry.

6. Denim skirt

This summer-to-fall transformation is an easy one. Just swap out your tee for a warm sweater and grab a plaid scarf and some tights to keep you from freezing on the walk between classes. Riding boots or suede booties would be a great finishing touch to this look as well.

7. Crop top

The key to comfort when rocking a crop top in autumn (or even winter!) is keeping the rest of your outfit weather-appropriate. That way you can show a little skin, but not be covered in goosebumps for the entire day. Layer up and opt for high-waisted jeans or leggings to keep cozy. If it’s super windy, you can always just button up, and if the sun makes an unexpected appearance, you’re already prepared.

8. Maxi dress

Try some heeled booties to avoid stowaway autumn leaves on your hemline, and gravitate towards more muted shades rather than neon tropical prints. The long skirt will keep your legs warm against the autumn chill and it's basically an instant blanket if you feel like curling up for a nap in the library.

Don’t let rainy forecasts deter your from wearing your favorite warm weather pieces—with these easy tips, you can style them all year long.

Liberty University Alumni Are Returning Their Diplomas Over the University President's Support of Trump

A group of Liberty University alumni are returning their diplomas in protest over President Jerry Falwell Jr.’s continuing support of President Trump, reports Refinery29.

Falwell’s support of President Trump has been a point of contention for a number of alumni for months. However, his defense of Trump’s statements about the recent violence in Charlottesville went way too far for many of them. Falwell praised Trump’s condemning remarks about “both sides” at the white nationalist rally where three people died and many more were injured, tweeting,“Bold truthful stmt about #Charlottesville tragedy. So proud of @RealDonaldTrump.”

Some of the displeased alumni started a Facebook group last week to unify a way to return their diplomas to the school. The group has since grown to about 300 members. In the description, alumni explain that they’ve been unhappy with Falwell’s leadership for some time. The group calls for alumni who feel the same way to send their diplomas back by September 5, and to include a letter that explains why they don’t want to be affiliated with the school anymore.

Christy Nettekoven Spears, 31, graduated from Liberty in 2009 and told Refinery29 she plans to address her concerns with Falwell’s continuing political involvement. In her opinion, “he should be willing to bend his ear toward the alumni, and the students, and the faculty and see our heart.” She wants Falwell to step back from politics as a whole, but more than that, she wants him “to stop aligning the university with the current administration.”

This isn’t the first time Falwell’s support of the president has earned him backlash from the student body and alumni. Trump gave the 2017 commencement speech at Liberty, and while it’s true a great deal of the student body did vote for him in November, according to The Washington Post, a significant group has always been vocally opposed to Trump and the university’s support of him.

A student group called Liberty United Against Trump issued a statement in October following the release of the infamous tape in which the then-candidate bragged about grabbing women’s genitals and not needing consent to do so, and Falwell’s subsequent support for Trump, saying “we’re all sinners.” The statement declared that “Donald Trump does not represent our values and we want nothing to do with him. . . He has made his name by maligning others and bragging about his sins. Not only is Donald Trump a bad candidate for president, he is actively promoting the very things that we as Christians ought to oppose.”

In an interview with ABC News on Sunday, Falwell tried to clarify that his tweet praised Trump for calling out the KKK, white supremacists and neo-Nazis. He also called the violence in Charlottesville “pure evil,” but the students already planning to return their diplomas were  swayed from sending back their diplomas in order to denounce the university’s continuing support of President Trump.

As we enter the fall season and return back to school, coffee as part of our everyday routine is a habit that we naturally (and happily) fall back into.  However, Dunkin’ Donuts is giving their coffee lovers the chance to determine which flavor will be brewed on ice next summer, with the selection being chosen from amongst Baskin Robbin’s ice cream flavors.  According to  Cosmopolitan, voters have the options of: Butter Pecan, Cookie Dough, Pistachio, Rocky Road and Jamoca Almond Fudge.

So how do you get in on this contest? It’s literally at your fingertips —from August 21to the 25, comment on Dunkin’ Donuts’ pinned posts about the contest on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with your selected flavor. Then, on the last day of voting, Dunkin’ Donuts will present five Snapchat filters, one for each flavor, and you can show off your favorite in store. Marketing Divereports that the winning flavor will be announced on August 31, and will hit stores next summer.

Starbucks who? By that time, everyone’s favorite coffee and donut place might just be Dunkin’—we're just bummed we'll have to wait until next summer to get our hands on the new flavor.

Jennifer Aniston Is Not Here for Those 'Friends' Fan Theories Saying Rachel and Joey Should Have Ended Up Together

There are two kinds of Friends fans in this world: those who wanted Rachel and Ross to end up together, and those who were rooting for Rachel and Joey's fling to pull through. No matter what side you're on, Jennifer Aniston has officially given us a final answer - and, spoiler: Joey fans aren't going to be happy.

In an interview with Elle, the actress talked about her husband Justin Theroux, her *iconic* hair and most importantly, those fan theories shipping Rachel and Joey as the Friends couple that should have actually ended up together. Aniston's verdict on whether she secretly wishes her character ended up with Joey instead of Ross? She shut down the Joey and Rachel theories real quick.

"No! No, no. They tried! I think there was a moment when Joey and Rachel got together that maybe it could happened, but it didn't," she told Elle. "It was Ross and Rachel all the way. I really believe that if there's an afterworld of Friends, they're still thriving. Don't you? I just don't think Joey and Rachel could have made it. I think it was more physical than emotional with them. They were friends with benefits, and they left it at that."

So, sorry Rachel and Joey fans, but there's your answer. In case you're bummed though, let the fact that Jennifer Aniston (along with basically all of us) believes in some kind of TV parallel universe where the Friends still exist cheer you up.

The first day of class is a time of change and first impressions. First time in a new classroom, first time meeting your future classmates and, perhaps most importantly, the first time meeting your new professor. While this entire process can be exciting, it can also be extremely frustrating. Here are some of the worst things you could hear your professor say on the first day of class.

1. "Attendance will be mandatory."

2. "No electronics are allowed in class."

3. "Homework is graded on correctness, not completeness."

4. "You will need to bring your clicker to every class."

5. "The final is cumulative."

6. "Expect pop quizzes throughout the semester."

7. "Working in groups is a large part of this course."

8. "An A is 95 percent or higher."

9. "Never expect class to be cancelled for any reason, including weather."

10. "The course is not an easy A."

11. "Participation points will affect your overall grade."

12. "Don't expect to have seen this style of teaching before."

13. "You'll be here for the full length of every class."

14. "There will be no extra credit."

15. "You'll need to purchase all the textbooks listed."

16. "I'll start teaching today."

17. "Please don't bring food to class. It's distracting."

18. "Your grade is based entirely off of exam grades."

19. "Let's start off the semester with an icebreaker."

20. "In fact, stand up and introduce yourself in front of the entire class."

21. "Many of you will end up dropping this course. Good luck."

A Georgia Woman Was Allegedly Fired from Her Job For Leaking While She Was on Her Period

We've all been there and experienced that major "uh-oh" moment when we realize we've ruined our favorite pair of undies or pants on a super heavy flow day - not only does it suck, but it's super embarrassing too. However, one woman's accidental period leak was especially awful when she was fired from her job because of it. (Um, excuse me, but WHAT?)

According to the Huffington Post, Alisha Coleman of Georgia is suing her former workplace, a 911 call center in Fort Benning, Georgia, claiming she was fired for having two heavy period leaks while on the job. Her first incident, which occurred in August of 2015, allegedly caused her to receive a disciplinary warning saying she would be fired if it ever happened again. As if that weren't bad enough, it happened again in April 2016, and she was dismissed from work. She returned to her job several days later only to find out that she'd been fired because she failed to, "practice high standards of personal hygiene and maintain a clean, neat appearance while on duty."

Coleman's case was first tried back in February, but it was dismissed by a district court that decided her pre-menopausal heavy period weren't protected by the Pregnancy Discrimination Act. Luckily, the ACLU has announced it will retry her case.

"Firing a woman for getting her period at work is offensive and an insult to every woman in the workplace," Andrea Young, the executive director of the ACLU of Georgia, said in a statement. "A heavy period is something nearly all women will experience, especially as they approach menopause, and Alisha was shamed, demeaned and fired for it. That’s wrong and illegal under federal law. We’re fighting back."

AMEN. Hopefully the court will agree this time.

How to Survive Your High School Math Class When You Really Don't Give AF

$

High school is hard enough as it is, but add in a little hatred for math, and you’re probably more than ready to sprint across that stage, grab your diploma and never look back. If you find yourself dozing off while listening to your teacher rattle on about numbers and equations, you likely just don’t give AF about math. You might even wonder just when you’ll actually use this math again IRL (update: you probably won’t, depending on your major) but if you want that diploma, you have to learn how to survive your high school math class. Don’t worry—we’re here to help! Follow these tips and you’ll slowly but surely get through that dreaded math class.

1. Form a study group with friends

Misery loves company, right? Odds are all of your friends will be taking some sort of math class too and are probably dreading it just as much as you are. Instead of suffering through your homework individually, combine your efforts and study together. Pick one of your favorite spots near your high school (think coffee shops or pizzerias) and devote one or two days per week to being your ~math day~ where you’ll all grind through your homework together.  "Group work is helpful because students can talk it over with their friends and help each other figure it out," says Kassey Betz, a recent University of Kansas grad and current math teacher. "If one person understands one part and the other understands something else, then they can 'teach' each other. Being able to walk someone else through the steps helps you completely understand the material and will make you so much more confident when you go through the problems on a test!" This step is both social and educational – bonus!

2. Set personal homework deadlines

With activities like attending football games on Friday nights or planning the next school dance, it’s so easy to get caught up in the excitement of high school—but it’s even more important to keep up with your schoolwork. Sure, it’s way more fun to hang out with your friends, but your impressive social calendar won’t impress colleges the way a high GPA will. Try setting personal goals or deadlines for all of your homework assignments, and don’t let yourself extend them! Set the deadline as early as possible though because math homework can be tricky AF and you might need to talk to your teacher if you have any questions. “I was always the worst procrastinator, and it would definitely get the best of me,” Lydia, a junior at Cal Poly, says. “By senior year, I knew I had to get all of my assignments done right away or else I would put them off and not do them at all.” The sooner you do it, the sooner it’s over!

3. Make chapter recaps immediately after finishing your practice problems

Telling yourself you’ll catch up on those homework problems next week is definitely the worst thing you could possibly do. Math classes tend to move quickly, so it’s incredibly easy to fall behind. Senioritis (or even junioritis, if we’re being honest) is a real issue, but whatever you do, don’t let it interfere with your math class. “It’s so easy to lose track of assignments once you start focusing only on graduation,” says Mary, a University of Arizona sophomore. “I remember having to force myself to fight senioritis and do my assignments, especially in my math classes.” It might be hard to do, but it’ll be so worth it. If you're struggling to keep up with the equations or information presented in each new chapter, start making a chapter recap immediately after you finish that week's set of practice problems. By making a one-page summary of the most important information you learned from that chapter while it's still fresh in your mind, you'll be ensuring you truly understand everything and be able to fill in any missing gaps before moving on to the next section.

4. Take detailed notes during class

If you find yourself mentally checking out during class as your teacher introduces new equations, you’ll definitely need to find a way to force yourself into paying attention. Be creative with the way you take notes– create a color-coded system to keep track of equations so you’re forcing yourself to pay attention. Any little extra note-taking ability will not only keep things visually interesting, but can actually make your math lessons a little more fun. "When I was in high school, I would always use one of those multi-inked pens during math so I could use different colored ink to keep track of different kinds of information," says Katie, a Grand Canyon University senior says. Try using a basic black ink for all practice examples, blue ink for any general equations and red ink for important tips or information. Having things laid out in different colors will help you keep track of all the information, while keeping you extra focused during class.

5. Reward yourself for paying attention

Honestly, paying attention is such a struggle when you just don’t care, so why not start a little positive enforcement situation? Grab your favorite bag of candy and eat a few pieces every 15 minutes you’ve paid attention without checking your phone. “If I didn’t reward myself for paying attention, I never would’ve made it through my math classes,” Mary says. “I always snuck in some sort of sour candy and would set a few on my desk for motivation to keep paying attention.” Whatever works, right? Even though you probably dread having to walk into that math classroom every day, at least you'll be making it as pleasant as possible and adding in a little extra self-care

6. Turn to the internet for help

The internet isn't just a place to do a little online shopping or stay up-to-date on your friends' lives via social media – you can actually use it to study too! There are a ton of amazing resources out there that will break down each and every step of a math problem so you can follow along, pause when you need to and even rewind to watch it all again. It's basically like having a personal tutor – for free! One of the best online resources is Khan Academy, where they have each subject broken down into subsets so you can find exactly what you need. A quick YouTube search can help you find other informative videos as well. "I love doing a quick Google search when I'm confused about whatever I just learned in class," says Catarina, a senior at University of Nevada. "Sometimes it's easier to hear the material explained by someone who uses a different approach than a teacher. Plus you have so much more control over how fast you move through the steps since you can press pause whenever you need an extra second to work through it."

7. Meet with your teacher outside of class

When you just can't seem to figure things out on your own, don't be afraid to talk to your teacher outside of class. They will be more than willing to help walk you through the material and help point out any tips or tricks to solving the equations that they might not have had time to cover in class. A lot of math teachers even offer study hours in their classrooms where their students can sit and work through their homework problems and be able to ask questions whenever they get stuck. It's extremely helpful when you find yourself feeling lost while working through your homework assignments. Not sure if your school already has a program like this one? Try suggesting it to your teacher to see if it's something they would be interested in starting – chances are they'll love the idea.

If you find yourself struggling to make it through your high school math classes, don’t worry, we’ve all been there. It might take a little extra effort, but you’ll be able to make it through. Soon enough you’ll be looking back on your high schools and laughing about how much you hated that awful math class!

How to Survive Without a Meal Plan

$

The college dining hall is an unfortunately familiar scene on college campuses: mystery meat, pizza every night and sky-high prices. Every day, you trek to the caf, grab the same boring food, and pray that the food poisoning your friend got a week ago was a fluke. You dream of the day when you’re no longer required to be on the meal plan, and you look forward to making delicious, fresh meals in your room.

But the first night of your plan-less living, you may stare inside your fridge (stocked with a mismatched assortment of items) and come to a conclusion: there is nothing to eat.

For students who are used to home-cooked or cafeteria-prepared meals, living without a meal plan can seem difficult at first. However, there are many benefits to going sans plan—it’s often cheaper, and you’ll get more control over what you eat every day! But of course, preparing and shopping for food takes time. Here’s what you should keep in mind when living without a meal plan.

Get the Right Cooking Supplies

One of the best parts of living on a meal plan is the fact that the food is ready to be eaten the moment you scoop it onto your plate. Without a plan, you’re on your own. But that can actually let you be more flexible in what you eat!

Buy the Basics

There are a few customary supplies you should have before you can make your own meals. Here are the standard kitchen supplies that collegiettes recommend bringing, beyond plates and silverware:

  • At least one pot and one pan
  • Can opener
  • Cutting board
  • Knife sharp enough to cut veggies or meat
  • Large spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Microwave
  • Mixing bowl
  • Slotted spoon
  • Spatula
  • Toaster
  • Tongs

Consider Specialty Items

Beyond the basics, you probably have favorite meals that require specific kitchen supplies.

“One of my roommates brought a panini maker, which also turned out to be a godsend,” says Kaitlin, a recent graduate of William & Mary. “We could eat paninis for every meal of the day, and sandwiches are easy because as long as you have bread, you can find any number of ingredients in your kitchen.” You could also make paninis on a mini grill, such as a George Foreman Grill, which will also allow you to cook meat, chicken and fish easily.

Collegiettes also recommended blenders as well for easy smoothies. Torri, a recent grad of Penn State, says she loves her NutriBullet. “It's great, super-compact and easy to clean (which means easy for the average college girl on the go), and [it] can make healthy smoothies within minutes,” she says. “Low prep time, plus the mixer acts as a portable cup — I love it!”

For other high-quality cooking supplies, like blenders and combination toaster/coffee makers (so convenient!), try BELLA Housewares—just be sure to check with your housing department that you’re allowed to bring these specialty items before you pack them!

Save money on supplies

Looking to find affordable cooking supplies? Try unexpected places, like hand-me-downs from relatives. “In terms of cooking supplies, my housemates and I used pots and pans from grandparents, parents, older siblings who had already lived in apartments – pretty much anything we could get for free!” says Nicole, a senior at Marist College.

Shop Smart

Here are some things to keep in mind before you go grocery shopping:

Make a Budget

The amount of money you’ll spend on food will vary dramatically based on how much you eat, how expensive your chosen grocery store is and how often you eat out as opposed to cooking at home. Especially in college, it can be tempting to load up on snacks, which can raise your grocery bill quickly. “I spent about $70 every two weeks on groceries and tried to go to the store with a strict list so I wouldn't go overboard on junk food and snacks,” Nicole says.

Consider shopping once a week or once every two weeks and sticking to a budget so you don’t overdo it on food you don’t really need. If you set a strict limit for each grocery trip, that extra box of cookies will look a lot less tempting!

Scope Out the Cheapest Groceries

Many grocery stores near college towns will jack up their prices because of the proximity to hungry college students. Ask upperclassmen about the stores that carry the cheapest, best foods. Take advantage of any local farmer’s markets, too, which often carry great, in-season foods for a fraction of the price you’ll pay at a supermarket.

“I think it's way healthier and cheaper to stay in and cook versus eating out or meal plan, and you're learning some valuable life lessons (e.g. just because you're broke doesn't mean you have to starve or live off of Top Ramen),” Heather says. “I bargain shop whenever possible; I do my shopping between Trader Joe’s and WinCo.”

Eat a Balanced Diet

Sure, Ramen is cheap, but it’s not doing you in favors in the nutrition department. Make sure you’re eating a balanced diet of grains, veggies, fruit and protein.

“I usually either eat cereal or cook an egg (fried, scrambled or poached) and make toast for breakfast,” Heather says. “For lunch and dinner, I'll make a salad, pasta, rice dishes, quinoa, sandwiches, stir-fry, curry, noodles, potatoes, vegetables, you name it. Vegetables are not as expensive or difficult to cook as people think!”

Get Creative!

You don’t need a stuffed pantry to make good meals. Keep your apartment or dorm stocked with essentials like chicken, bread, pasta, pasta sauce and rice, and add a few fruits and veggies to the mix. A lot of great dinners only require a few ingredients. Spices, for example, add a lot of flavor to meals but don’t cost very much (and don’t add unnecessary calories!). Need inspiration? Check out seven ideas for quick, easy recipes you can make at home!

Living without a meal plan will offer you a ton of flexibility in what you eat and how much you pay for it. Because you probably won’t have tons of expensive cooking equipment at your disposal, your recipes will likely be more healthy and simple. “I found that eating off the meal plan almost immediately improved my eating habits,” Kaitlin says. “When I ate at the caf, I would really stuff myself for one or two meals a day to ensure I got my value's worth and also because I only had a certain number of swipes.

“Now that I eat off-campus, I can eat a lot more, and much smaller, meals throughout the day, which has been better for my energy levels and body in general,” she says.

While cooking for yourself for the first time can seem a bit daunting, there are actually a ton of options, and you will likely be healthier and might even pick up some culinary skills along the way!

That 'Type of Girl' and Plan B One-Step®

The below article has been syndicated to Her Campus from The Boho Socialite. In her honest piece, Mickey Hightower shares her experience with a failed “Plan A” and debunks that myth only certain women take emergency contraception. Read below for her dialogue on Plan B One-Step®. Read the full post here.

This is a sponsored post by Plan B One-Step®

Let’s get personal for a few minutes, babes. I want to talk about something that can seem scary or daunting or shameful, but it’s not. I know it’s not, because it’s something I’ve done myself. I want to talk about Plan B One-Step® emergency contraception and help debunk some myths about it – like who it’s for and when to use it. You guys know from following my blog and Instagram that I am so pro women’s empowerment, and part of that is pushing for more education for us women on our bodies and our healthcare options. I’m very fortunate that I grew up surrounded by people that were very open and sex-positive – so I knew from an early age how to be safe, take precaution, and protect myself for when the time came so I could be prepared.

There’s a total misconception, almost a stigma, about what “kind of girl” uses Plan B One-Step®. It’s not only for the single, “party girl” – though she has the right to make her own decisions about her sexual behaviors without guilt or shame. I like to think of Plan B One-Step® as my “Plan B” for an “oops” moment. An “oops moment” comes in all shapes and sizes. For one person, it may mean forgetting a pill before an unexpected one-night stand. For someone else, it may mean the condom broke with her husband. There’s no one-size-fits-all for using emergency contraception. Plan B One-Step® helps prevent pregnancy when used as directed and taken within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex or birth control failure. The sooner it's taken, the better it works.

When I used Plan B One-Step®, I was in a committed relationship. I know “never say never,” but having a baby is not a part of my plan right now. This is something I’ve known with certainty. My career as a style + travel blogger is my priority, and I am not going to let an accident, like birth control failure, derail my hard work, my plans, or my lifestyle.

I loved my partner at the time very much and maybe did see a future with him, but we also were in no place to have a baby – emotionally or financially. Taking Plan B One-Step® was the responsible thing to do for myself, for my partner, for both of our families and anyone else that could possibly have been affected by an unplanned pregnancy. Getting Plan B One-Step® couldn’t have been easier – I went to my local pharmacy—Plan B One-Step® is available over-the-counter and can usually be found in the family planning aisle at many retail stores without a prescription or ID and there are no age restrictions —and my pharmacist was super discreet and went over the proper instructions for taking the pill. I took it, and went on with my day. It was totally worth it to know that when my plan A did fail, I had a plan B.

So there’s my story, but here is some additional information about Plan B One-Step® to help you learn more:

-Plan B One-Step® emergency contraception is a backup plan that helps prevent pregnancy when used as directed and taken within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex or birth control failure. The sooner it's taken, the better it works.

-According to the Guttmacher Institute, 45% of all pregnancies in the U.S. are unintended and 41% of those pregnancies are due to inconsistent or incorrect use of contraception.*

-Plan B One-Step® contains levonorgestrel, the same hormone used in many birth control pills—just at a higher dose. It should not be used as regular birth control, because it is not as effective. Use as directed.

-Plan B One-Step® should be used as directed.

-Plan B One-Step® is not an abortion pill. It will not work if you are already pregnant and will not affect an existing pregnancy. It is not intended for routine use because it is not as effective as regular birth control methods. It does not protect you against HIV/AIDS or other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

-When used as directed, Plan B One-Step® helps prevent nearly 7 out of every 8 potential pregnancies. Some women may experience side effects, such as a period that is lighter, heavier, early or late; nausea; lower abdominal pain/cramps; tiredness; headache; dizziness; breast tenderness; and vomiting.

If you have any questions about whether you should take Plan B One-Step®, you should ask a healthcare professional. An open and honest dialogue with yourself, your doctor, your partner, and even your friends or family can help you make the appropriate decisions that are best for you when it comes to your sexual health. With this information at your disposal, we’re all now equipped with the best tools to help make the best decisions for ourselves.

I wrote this piece because I once needed Plan B One-Step®, and it’s important to be educated on what it is and when to take it.Learn more about Plan B One-Step® at www.PlanBOneStep.com. Use as directed. I am being compensated for this partner post by Her Campus on behalf of Teva Women’s Health.

Hillary Clinton Calls Donald Trump a 'Creep' in Her New Book

On Wednesday, MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” had an exclusive first look at Hillary Clinton’s new memoir, What Happened, detailing her experiences in the 2016 election. In the audio excerpts, read by Clinton herselfthe former secretary of state and presidential candidate addressed the infamous town hall debate where now-President Donald Trump stood right behind her and followed her around the tiny stage as she spoke.

The rocky second presidential debate took place at Washington University in St. Louis last October, just two days after Trump’s “grab them by the pussy” tape was released.

“It was incredibly uncomfortable,” Clinton said in the excerpt. “My skin crawled.”

Clinton reflected on the moment, parodied by Saturday Night Liveas a scene out of the movie of Jaws.

“It was one of those moments where you wish you could hit pause and ask everyone watching, 'Well, what would you do?'" Clinton asked. "Do you stay calm? Or do you turn and say loudly and clearly: 'Back up you creep. Get away from me. I know you love to intimidate women, but you can’t intimidate me. So back up.'”

While she chose the first option back in October, Clinton said she “wonders if she would have chosen option B.”

Despite the mixed feelings about her experience and decisions, Clinton didn't let the campaign make her bitter. As she tweeted the day after the election:

Throughout her memoir, , Clinton described moments in the campaign she wished she could do over — and the ones she will never forget.

"This is my story,” she said. “I want to pull back the curtain on an experience that was exhilarating, joyful, humbling, infuriating, and just plain baffling."

The Summer-to-School Relationship Transition: How to Deal

$

Whether you were home with your SO all summer and you’re moving back to different parts of the country in the fall, or you were in a temporary LDR, transitioning back to school can feel unnatural. This new set-up is definitely going to take some adjusting, especially if this was your first summer as a couple. We talked to Jodi R.R. Smith, president and owner of Mannersmith Etiquette Consulting to help you make sense of the situation, no matter what the circumstances of your relationship are.

If you’re moving back to the same school

The situation

So you and your SO were apart all summer, and although it was hard, you had gotten used to it. Now that school is starting, you’re worried that things will be awkward between you two.

What to expect

There are a few reasons why jumping back into your college relationship isn’t easy. “There is something so old-fashioned and romantic about a text-call-letter-only relationship,” Smith says. “When suddenly you have the option of spending actual time together, things change. You may have changed as well.”

Three months of summer as a collegiette can change you more than you could imagine, which is part of why reuniting with your partner might feel unnatural.

Lindy Olive, a senior at Auburn University, and her boyfriend have had to deal with this every other semester for the past year and a half; he works one semester and goes to school the next. “His job was seven hours away from our university, so it was kind of crazy,” Lindy says. “I would get used to being in a long-distance relationship with him and then the next semester we would have to readapt to being with each other all the time.” This was far from ideal, but the collegiette’s couple made it through—and so can yours.

How to handle it

There are plenty of simple ways for your relationship to go back to normal. “Coming back to campus, include some dates as part of reconnecting,” Smith says. “Go to dinner together, take some long walks and chat about your summers as well as your expectations for the fall.”

Don’t overdo it, though! “Spending 24 hours a day together for the first few days is completely understandable,” Smith explains. “But then you need to focus on school and get back into your routine. Do not ignore your other friends; it is important to focus on those connections as well.”

Based on her experience, Lindy could not agree more. You need to “set boundaries for how much you hang out,” she says.” “When my boyfriend comes back to college, we hang out 24/7 just because we are so excited to be with each other again.” But Lindy always makes sure to carve out time for her friends and family, because “you can't go to your boyfriend about everything,” she says. “Sometimes, you need your girls to help you out.”

For the collegiette, communication was key to handling the situation. “We had to grow up a ton and learn about ourselves to make it work, Lindy says. “But it was totally worth it, because he got job experience he needed and our relationship is stronger than ever.” Bottom line: getting back into your habits as a couple won’t come instantly, but it will eventually—promise.

If you’re going back to different schools

The situation

You and your SO are high school sweethearts, or maybe you got together over break. Now that the semester is about to start, you’re moving back to different schools across the country, and you’re going to miss each other like crazy!

What to expect

Being in an LDR is tough, especially after spending so much time together over the summer. “My ex-boyfriend and I live in the same town but go to college separately, so it was always hard going back to school after being together for the summer,” says Rachel Petty, a junior at James Madison University.

Lindy had to get used to being with her boyfriend long-distance as well, when he went back to work every other semester. Being in an LDR means seeing each other once every few weeks or even months, communicating exclusively via text or Skype, and worrying about what the other might be doing. It can get messy, but it doesn’t have to be!

How to handle it

While you and your SO are home, you want to make the most of each other. Talking about being apart is probably the last thing you want to do, but it is necessary. “The key here is to have a conversation before returning to school about expectations,” Smith says. “Long-distance relationships can work if both partners are committed to keeping it going. There needs to be a frank discussion about what it means to be together.”

For instance, if you need your partner to send you cute texts more often, or he or she is worried about you cheating, you have to bring it up—however uncomfortable it may be.

Lindy and her boyfriend, who are going to live close to each other for good, have become seasoned experts when it comes to LDRs. “Before the semester starts, go ahead and plan a weekend or two out of the semester to see your SO,” she suggests. “You can plan your studies and hobbies around that date, so when you do get to see him/her, you can focus on having fun with each other and not school.”

Additionally, Lindy and her boyfriend made sure to take turns traveling to see each other. “For example, in the fall semester, my boyfriend would do most of the traveling because I was overwhelmed with school,” she says. “This summer, I did all of the traveling because my job allowed me to work remotely.”

Whatever you do, make sure to talk to your SO on a daily basis when you go back to school. “It's important to keep communicating and share what's going on in each of your lives,” Rachel says. “If you leave each other out of the loop, you'll feel less connected.”

As for Lindy’s advice to collegiettes like her—you guessed it—”communicate as much as possible,” she says. “Although I consider our relationship strong and healthy, it was difficult to remember why I loved my boyfriend so much when he wasn't five minutes down the road to easily hang out or go eat together. The stresses of the semester allow you to easily forget about or fight with that person.”

For Lindy, calling, texting and Skyping was essential to her relationship’s success. And as an inspiration to us all, the collegiette concludes: “Remember it's a difficult situation. You are going to fight and bicker about it. But don't let long distance be the reason to quit something so special.” We could not have said it better!

If one of you graduated

The situation

You and your SO went to the same school, but one of you graduated this past spring. This might be even more difficult than going back to being long-distance, since you have grown used to being together on campus. “My boyfriend just graduated from Miami of Ohio, and we have been together since my freshman year, meaning that we saw each other regularly on campus,” says Shelby Hyde, a senior collegiette. “This summer, I was in NYC working as an intern, and he was working back home, but we have made it work, as he came to visit.”

But with graduation comes new opportunities, job offers, volunteer trips, etc., and you two could end up on opposite sides of the country—or even the world. Unfortunately for Shelby, her boyfriend is moving to China for nine months in the fall. “He was given an amazing opportunity to work overseas, and we have decided that with the help of Skype, WhatsApp and even resorting to snail mail, that we would do our best to make it work,” she says.

What to expect

One of the biggest issues you might face in this situation is not being on the same page as your partner anymore. Deciding to stay together is not a light decision to make, although it can absolutely work. “After a few weeks, see how things are going,” Smith says. “Are you happy? Is your partner happy? If so, continue the relationship by keeping in contact and making plans to see each other again soon. If not, it might be time to take a break.”

But even if you do decide to break up, it could be temporary. “Graduating from college is a major lifecycle milestone and it has challenges,” Smith says. “At this time of your lives, breaking up is not always forever. Sometimes it takes a bit of time apart to find yourselves and get settled in your careers before rekindling the campus romance.”

Obviously, breaking up is far from being your only option. Shelby is determined to make her relationship work. “Though the 12-hour time difference will be difficult, we have endured a temporary LDR at some point during our relationship and there are definitely ways to make it work,” she says.

How to handle it

We’re not teaching you anything new when we say that the key to any strong relationship is to be completely honest and open with each other. “Again, communication is key,” Jodi says. “ It is perfectly acceptable to pledge your undying love for one another. In fact, this may provide a degree of comfort and security for the one who has graduated and is trying to make his/her way in the great big world.”

Shelby knows that communication is essential, but she has also learned that “using FaceTime or Skype every day doesn't necessarily help. It is important to each maintain your own life, and plan to talk via these platforms once or twice a week to catch each other up on the exciting and sometimes mundane happenings in your lives. But discussing what works for you beforehand is definitely important, so that nothing is left up in the air.”

Basically, you should make sure that you and your SO are on the same page before you are far away from each other. If you are both determined to stay together, then it will come somewhat naturally, i.e. you won’t feel the need to Skype twice a day to check up on what your partner is doing.

Whatever your situation, the summer-to-school transition can be messy. But if you communicate with your SO and remember to spend time with your friends and family as well, your relationship will come out all the stronger. Have a great year, collegiettes!

What You Need To Know About Trump's Speech In Arizona Last Night

$

After talking serious business in his last speech, President Donald Trump gathered his Arizona supporters for an off-script, unfiltered rally on Tuesday night — and his words were unsettling for even the staunchest Republicans.

The 77-minute speech, according to TIME, was mostly attacks against his recent (and long-term) opponents: John McCain, Jeff Flake and the media.

Although Trump has already buried himself with multiple statements on the incidents in Charlottesville, he brought it back up AGAIN to challenge his various critics.

"I mean truly dishonest people in the media and the fake media, they make up stories. They have no sources in many cases," Trump said. "They say 'a source says' — there is no such thing. But they don't report the facts. Just like they don't want to report that I spoke out forcefully against hatred, bigotry and violence and strongly condemned the neo-Nazis, the White Supremacists and the KKK."

Then, he actually read his previous statements on Charlottesville — notably leaving out his controversial "many sides" line—to somehow prove that what he said was not reported. Then he took aim at the members of the press who said his comments were too-little, too-late.

"He didn't say it fast enough. He didn't do it on time," Trump said. "Why did it take a day? He must be a racist. It took a day."

Trump also took the time to revisit some of his greatest hits, from the status of that wall on the infamous southern border (which he said is "desperately needed") to his ongoing feud with CNN (he got the crowd to chant "CNN sucks").

However, another thing that for sure needs fact checking: Trump's claim that CNN turned off cameras during his speech.

Turning his attention back to McCain, Trump was clearly subtweeting the Arizona senator (who is currently battling brain cancer) about the Republican health care bill failing due, in part, to his vote when he said: "One vote away! I will not mention any names. Very presidential, isn’t it?”

Regardless of how presidential Trump believed he was being by leaving out names, The Hill reported that his attacks on McCain and Flake might just worsen some already tense feelings between POTUS and Republicans. There have been reports that Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is also doubting Trump's abilities.

Whether you support Trump or not, it's becoming increasingly difficult to call appearances like this one "presidential."

UK Firefighters Were Served Sausages Made From The Pigs They Rescued

A team of firefighters who rescued 18 piglets and two sows from a fire in the United Kingdom earlier this year met their rescues again—this time as sausages.

According to the BBC, the firefighters rushed to a farm in Wiltshire (located in Southwest England) and saved the group of pigs from the blaze of a massive hay fire in February. However, shortly after the piglets grew to market size, they were slaughtered and turned into sausages.

In a somewhat bizarre series of events, Rachel Rivers, the farm manager, thanked the firefighters by gifting them the sausage made from the piglets. That’s definitely a unique spin on giving a gift basket.

To be fair, Rivers said that the pigs were inevitably going to be slaughtered and made into someone's food. It just so happens that these little piggies came out of the fire and into the frying pan (or barbecue) at the Pewsey fire station.

“I gave those animals the best quality of life I could ever give, until the time they go to slaughter and they go into the food chain," Rivers told the BBC, explaining her decision for her strange gift.

However, some people were not so comfortable with it. Some have even taken it upon themselves to chastise both Rivers and the firefighters — including people at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), who said they plan to send a more pig-friendly gift of their own.

“We’ll be sending Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service packs of vegan sausages so that they can see how easy it is to truly be heroes for pigs — by sparing them all suffering,” PETA Director of International Program Mimi Bekhechi told the BBC.

The Guardian also reported that the firefighters, who first posted about the sausages on Facebook calling them "fantastic," removed the posts of their impromptu sausage BBQ after receiving some backlash over the story.

5 Decadent Dorm Desserts You'll Be Obsessed With This Year

Eating in the dorms can be tough. You have to learn how to live without a fully stocked kitchen, and how to squeeze just a few snacks into your tiny shared room. Instead of running out to the chocolate shop or to McDonald's for a McFlurry whenever you're craving something sweet, have these five decadent desserts stocked in your dorm for a more convenient, drool-worthy option!

1. AWAKE Caffeinated Chocolate

It takes a lot of caffeine to get through the semester, but sometimes coffee or energy drinks just aren't what we're in the mood for. Next time you're in need of a little pick-me-up while craving something sweet, pick up an AWAKE bar! These delicious bars have the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee or a 250 mL energy drink while still tasting great, so no more last minute Starbucks runs necessary.

2. Justin's Snack Packs

Justin's has brought us delicious (and healthy) almond butter and peanut butter before which are staple items for any dorm, but they're stepping up the game with these easy snack packs! Stock up on some pretzels paired with chocolate hazelnut butter or a variety of other flavors for the perfect late night snack. They also have peanut butter cups, which you're clearly going to need to go buy ASAP.

3. Cookie Dough from The Cookie Dough Cafe

When you don't have your own kitchen to whip up some freshly baked cookies, life is such a struggle. If you're having some serious chocolate chip withdrawals, look no further than The Cookie Dough Cafe! Order some of their safe-to-eat cookie dough to store in your mini fridge for whenever you're in the need for a quick bite of the best thing ever created (aka cookie dough).

4. Chocolate Almond Laceys from Trader Joe's

These thin pieces of toffee sandwiching a layer of decadent chocolate will surely satisfy any craving. Plus, they have almonds in them, so they're healthy, RIGHT?? Either way, they are worth the indulgence.

5. 479 Degrees Sea Salt Caramel Popcorn

Sometimes you just want a convenient little snack to eat while you flip through your textbook in bed (or watch Netflix, not judging!), and this sea salt caramel popcorn from 479 Degrees is exactly what you'll need! The best part is that they air-pop the whole grain kernels, so it tastes delicious.

Having a few decadent desserts ready to snack on in your dorm is so essential, and you won't regret having these items stocked and ready to eat! A healthy lifestyle isn't complete without a little sugary snack.

Why Jared Leto Won't Be Starring in the New Joker Movie

It's an exciting day for Joker fans, as Deadlinereports that Warner Bros. and DC are expanding the Batman universe and working on a spin-off that will feature the origin story of the infamous Joker. The studio is reportedly working with filmmaker Todd Phillips, the mind behind The Hangover films, as well as screenwriter Scott Silver and director Martin Scorsese to bring the origin story to the big screen. However, if you were hoping to run to the theaters to see Jared Leto bring the Joker to life once again, I've got some bad news for ya-- Leto will not be starring in the film.

Although Leto joined the likes of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger to star as the Joker in 2016's Suicide Squad, Leto only performed as a supporting role, leaving many to question what that meant for the future of the character. Deadline writer, Mike Fleming Jr., explains allegedly the intent of the film is to create an origin story that isn't connected to past iterations of the Joker, and speculates that the film will feature an actor who is younger than Jared Leto. The film is also meant to feel separate from the DCEU movies, seeking to emulate a "gritty" early-'80s "crime" film.

Now don't get too upset, Jared Leto fangirls and fanguys, because we haven't seen the last of Leto's Joker-; Leto will return as the Joker in Suicide Squad 2 and Harley Quinn's spin-off film. While Leto will be watching along the sidelines with us during this new Batman spin-off, I'm sure it'll bring a new, interesting twist to Joker as we know him, no matter which actor is behind all that makeup.

This is the One Major Life Lesson Mary-Kate & Ashley Gave Elizabeth Olsen

When you're the younger sister of two child stars and are quickly making your way to fame, you can guarantee that you'll pick up a few valuable life lessons along the way. That was exactly the case for Elizabeth Olsen, who may have made a teeny mistake during the early stages of stardom concerning her private life. Luckily, sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley, who are known to keep to themselves, were there to share a huge piece of advice with their little sis.

Elizabeth, starring in this year's films Ingrid Goes West and Wind River, recently sat down with Modern Luxury to discuss what she's learned from her famous twin sisters. Gracing the cover of the September issue, she revealed that "I was not caring what I was saying [in interviews] because I’d assumed no one would read it."

Of course, in a world where the media can twist and turn every piece of information you share, sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley reminded Elizabeth on how to handle the spotlight and what to share in interviews.

"They’d say, 'You know, even if you don’t think anyone’s going to read this article, someone might pull the quote later for [something else].' It’s all part of how you hope someone interprets you, and how they frame who you are and the work you do," Elizabeth explains. "They’re very tight-lipped – notoriously so."

And as any person does when presented with a life lesson, Elizabeth took this advice and came to a conclusion of her own.

"I still deal with so many anxieties of how I come across," Elizabeth tells Modern Luxury. "I'll go home at night, spinning with a guilt complex of, 'Did I say something stupid to that person who I respect? Do they think I'm a freak?' I don't want to think like that anymore."

Navigating the world of fame cannot be easy, but we're glad Elizabeth can count on her older sisters to steer her on the right path, especially when it comes to protecting her privacy.
