11 Reasons Your High School BFF is Your Best BFF

$

0

Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver, but the other has enough dirt on you that they could incriminate you in a court of law...or something like that, right? There’s a reason your high school best friend has turned into your forever friend, and it’s not just that they’ve seen it all.

1. She’s been with you through all of the bad decisions you’ve made when you were ~*young and stupid*~

And she still loves you.

2. And for every fashion trend you’ve plowed your way through.

And no one should have to live through again. (Shout out to JT and that turtleneck, though.)

3. Your awkward stages weren’t awkward enough to scare her away.

But they were just awkward enough that she can joke about them.

4. Your sleepovers are perfectly crafted works of art.

Rivaling any cheesy teen movie anyone has ever seen.

5. She knows all of your secrets. Like the time you snuck out past curfew to see that boy.

Hell, she probably helped you pull it off.

6. And was fiercely loyal through all of the high school drama.

If you hated someone, she hated them, too.

7. She’s spent hours listening to angsty teen bands with you when you broke up with your boyfriend.

Ashlee Simpson, anyone?

8. Because how many days in a row can someone eat dinner at your house before your parents joke about adopting them?

You were part of her family, and she was a part of yours.

9. You’ve gotten in a good bit of trouble together...

What’s friendship if not a detention shared between friends?

10. Because she was by your side for all of the “When I was in high school” stories you’re still telling your friends.

You might want to stop telling “When I was in high school” stories, though...

11. Going to college didn’t change a thing for you two.

Unless you count the 2,000 additional Skype sessions you’ve added to your friendship.

How She Got There: Alex Shadrow, Owner & Founder of UNItiques

Name: Alex Shadrow
Age: 23
Job Title and Description: Owner & Founder of UNItiques
College Name/Major: Boston University, Public Relations
Website: http://www.UNItiques.com/
Twitter Handle: @UNItiques
Instagram Handle: @UNItiques

What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?

Alex Shadrow: So it depends on the time of year. In the summer, my job is to review our member feedback and reach out to our best members and ask them, “What do you want to see on UNItiques? What can we create?” That way when you come back to school this year we have new features. My summer is just 12-hour days of testing new features and making sure that everything works right before releasing. Then in the school year, I spend my days going from campus to campus and meeting with teams. We have events and we reach out to “style icons,” who are the most well-known girls on campus, and we get them to be UNItiques girls and create closets that their fans can shop.

Did you have similar jobs in your field before this? If so, how did you get them?

AS: I really always tell people that UNItiques saved my life because it really showed me what my priorities are. Before UNItiques, my priorities were totally out of line. I wanted to be the coolest girl in college and go to all the parties, just be always well-dressed. But UNItiques really gave me direction and made me realize that I’m worth so much more than just being a party girl. And, you know, there’s nothing wrong with having fun, but even party girls have priorities and I didn’t have that at all. So I don’t think that anything I did was exactly leading up to it, but I’ve always loved writing and always loved interacting with people. When I was growing up, I would spend an obscene amount of time on MySpace and Facebook. I had so many virtual friends. I would go home from school, and instead of doing a sport or having friends over, I would go on AOL [and] chat my virtual friends. Then it turned out that for UNItiques, I have to reach out to about 700 people that I don’t know every single week and the ability to communicate virtually was something that I developed as a hobby as a child and now it’s so applicable to my job.

What is the best part of your job?

AS: The best part of my job is definitely inspiring the girls that work for me, and they inspire the other girls on campus, which is really awesome. We did this company-wide survey, and so many of the girls told me that I was inspiring to them, and I think that was just so motivating, that’s the most rewarding part. And of course planning events are so fun and the actual clothing swaps and getting to meet the members in person has been a really awesome part of the job.

What advice would you give to a 20-something with similar aspirations?

AS: I would say to go for it as intelligently as you can. If you find something in life that’s not worth risking, you don’t have to sacrifice for it. But at the same time, I would have never spent the money that I spent to create the website had I not been really aware that there was a need for it. So I think a lot of people create businesses and they basically hope that the business will work, but they don’t ask themselves if there is a market for their product. They don’t do that research. I think you really need to figure out what the customer wants, whether it’s your business or anyone else’s business that you might be working in, and make your vision fit what is really going to be well-received.

What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?

AS: The biggest mistake was hiring the wrong people at first. It’s hard to hire people that have skills that you don’t know. For example, if you’re starting a massage therapy place, and you don’t know how to give massages but you’re going to run the place, it’s hard to hire people because you don’t know what’s good or bad in the world of massaging. So when a coder tells me he or she is really great at coding, that they can use X computer language, HTML, Java, CSS—to me, those are just words. So I hired someone without really researching.

What do you look for when considering hiring someone?

AS: I think the most important thing is seeing that someone can deliver on small projects. I always tell every single intern the first thing they need to do is create a store, and I see how fast they do it, how many questions they ask, and if they ask questions, that’s always a good thing, because it means they are thinking about it. I think it’s just the fact that I can tell right away from that task if they are committed to making the website better. I look to see how much passion and how much energy they will bring to that small project. Once I see that, it’s immediate. That goes also for full-time positions.

What has been the most surreal moment of your career this far?

AS: Being invited to be a speaker at business schools (Boston University, Harvard, MIT) that I could only dream of getting into when I was applying is so surreal. I’m sitting on panels with people who have 20-plus years of experience. It’s definitely crazy creating your own path after college, like this is my first year having my own salary. I didn’t even get into BU’s business school—I dropped out of it because it was way too hard for me. Being able to actually be a speaker at that college now just feels so good.

6 Reasons Avoiding Workplace Drama is Worth It

$
0
0

Most of us thought that drama ended the day we graduated high school, but we all found out that wasn't entirely true. Drama has the potential to carry into college, and even worse, it can follow you after you graduate college and start your career. Avoiding drama in the workplace might not be an easy task, but we'll show you why it's completely worth it.

1. You'll be a better team player

A big skill that employers look for is the ability for employees to be team players and work well within a group. The last thing you want to do is have coworkers associate you with drama while you're at work.

"If you ever have to work on a project with your coworkers, it's best to not be caught in any petty drama that will hinder the process," says Kaitlin Manion, a graduate student at Temple University. "If you're not on anyone's 'side,' it'll make you look like a better leader."

Not only will staying neutral in the workplace make you look trustworthy, but you'll be able to better focus on your work and developing positive relationships with your coworkers and your boss.

2. You'll avoid having a bad reputation at work

The last thing you want to be known for at work is starting drama or being at the center of workplace incidents. Avoiding drama at work is an integral part of making sure that you're representing yourself in the best light while you're at your 9-to-5.

You don't want to have a bad reputation and you definitely don't want your coworkers to feel like you're distracted by petty arguments when you're at work.

3. You'll be more focused on work

If you want a successful career in which you'll move up the ladder quickly, then drama should have no place in your day-to-day agenda. The more you stay away from it, the better employee you'll be and the better you'll do at your job. Since you're not worrying about office chatter and gossip from your coworkers, you'll have more time to focus on your work and get things done during the day.

Related: 4 Times You Shouldn't Apologize at Work

4. You'll be less stressed

If you've ever found yourself in a drama-filled situation, then you know just how much it can take out of you mentally and emotionally. You may find yourself thinking about how you should handle the situation and why there is even drama in the first place. Being invovled in drama can be an all-encompassing (and uncomfortable!) feeling. Imagine feeling that way at work and potentially bringing that drama home to think about. Not a good combination, especially if you're coming home from a long day in the office and you're trying to relax.

5. You'll better your chances for a positive recommendation

If you're thinking about leaving your current job for a better opportunity, and you need recommendations from former coworkers and supervisors, the fact that you haven't been involved in anything negative while in the office is only going to benefit you. Whoever is writing the recommendation for you will only remember the good things and portray you in a positive light rather than think about that time you were involved in a workplace altercation. You never want workplace drama to overshadow all of your hard work and effort.

6. You may be considered for a raise or promotion

One of the benefits of not involving yourself in workplace drama is the simple fact that you may be putting yourself in a better position to receive a raise or promotion. Employers want to keep people who are able to do their work well and who are equally able to get along with their coworkers and anyone else they may come into contact with.

"When it comes to making promotion decisions, current performance and competency level are not the only factors that are taken into consideration," says Salvatore Fusari, a human resources manager at a pharmaceutical company. "Companies will look to reward employees whose behaviors are in line with company values."

Leave the drama to the high school kids and do your best to remove yourself from any workplace situation in which drama may arise. It's not worth the stress to be involved in drama while you're working your way towards a successful career.

6 Hacks to Sleep in as Late as Possible & Still Make it to Class

Sponsored by Office Depot and OfficeMax stores.

It’s a weekday morning and you’re still in bed. After hitting snooze for the fourth time, you check the clock and realize you have to be sitting in your 10 a.m. discussion section in approximately 15 minutes. Oh, and that discussion section is across campus. Whether you went out the night before, stayed up until 4 a.m. studying, or are just plain exhausted, getting out of bed at this moment seems like the last thing you want to do. But instead of disappearing under your duvet, try these tips that’ll help you sleep in as late as possible and still make it to class.

1. Create a daily to-do list

Is anything more stressful than waking up late, scrambling to get ready and attempting to remember everything on your agenda that day? It’s overwhelming to say the least. That’s why we recommend finding a cute notebook — we love the Office Depot Brand Fashion Stellar Notebooks available at Office Depot and OfficeMax stores or online — for writing out all of your major tasks, projects and assignments in advance. Spend 10-15 minutes before bed each night to review the next day’s high-priority items; that way you can set your mind at ease and get extra sleep in the a.m. You can even add a reminder of items to bring to class the next day so you’re uber-prepared.

2. Prepare your hair

Nobody likes waking up with bedhead, but if you want to save time on a morning shampoo and condition, prepare your locks the night before. Whether that means putting your hair in braids, curlers or straightening it, style your hair so that it can with stand your tossing and turning. Better yet, invest in a silk pillowcase. It will keep your hair healthier while toning down the overnight frizz.

3. Pick out an outfit the night before

We collegiettes can waste tons of time in the morning just deciding what to wear. Check the weather for the next day and lay out your entire outfit, down to the shoes, bra, underwear and jewelry. You can slide right into your clothes in record time without having to think twice — just maybe skip on those ultra-skinny jeans that take five minutes to squeeze into.

4. Pack your bag

This one seems pretty obvious, but often times when pre-packing a backpack — like this adorable HIGH SIERRA one, available at Office Depot and OfficeMax stores or online — there are always a few things you might forget. Run through your schedule the night before, making sure you have all of your home work, gadgets and pens in there. There’s nothing worse than getting to class and realizing you forgot to print out the worksheet.

5. Eat breakfast on the go

Although tons of college students tend to skip out on this “most important meal of the day,” keep your stomach from rumbling in chem lab and pack a granola bar, bag of nuts or to-go cereal in your bag to munch on while you walk to class. If you can’t function without your morning caffeine fix, buy to-go cups and hit start while you’re brushing your teeth so your cup of fuel will be ready for you to sprint out the door.

6. Get to class quickly

Tons of campuses have sneaky routes and shortcuts that will shave minutes off of your trip to class. Explore some different paths to class before deciding which one is the quickest — even if it does mean cutting behind fraternity dumpsters. Throw in a pair of headphones, like the JLab JBuds Metal Earbuds from Office Depot and OfficeMax stores or online, and let your favorite podcast keep you company on your walk.

No matter if you’re looking for a later wake-up time or additional beauty rest, these hacks from Office Depot and OfficeMax stores will help you rest easy. Sweet dreams, collegiettes!

How to Stock a Mini Fridge the Healthy Way

College: the land of late night pizza and unlimited meal plans. While you’re super stoked to have an all-you-can-eat buffet every meal, chances are, you’ll get sick of the same foods after a while. Having a mini fridge could be your saving grace. However, just because you have three shelves worth of personal food storage, doesn’t mean you should stock it with Lunchables and Hot Pockets. Here are our how-tos for stocking a mini fridge—the healthy way.

What to put in your mini fridge

Produce

Fruits and vegetables are one of the best things to keep in your mini fridge! Fruit makes a fantastic on-the-go breakfast, a great afternoon snack or a nutritious late night bite when you are staying up to study!

“Cherry tomatoes are always my go-to snack if I need something quick, because they keep long in the fridge, and they’re a bit sweet and crunchy!” says Mollie McKinley, a junior at High Point University. Cherry tomatoes, grapes and sliced fruits are space efficient and easily stacked in containers. Apples and oranges have long shelf lives and can be stored for weeks before they expire.

Veggies are also great study snacks, providing you with the energy you need to keep working throughout those late nights in your floor lounge! Collegiettes Iris Goldsztajn, a senior at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Reagan Neviska, a junior at Kenyon College, recommend baby carrots and hummus as a cost effective study snack. “Dips make vegetables a little more ‘fun’ to eat,” says Reagan. Like apples and oranges, carrots and celery also have long shelf lives and can be stored for numerous weeks in your fridge.

Related: Dorm Foods You'll Be Glad You Packed

If your fridge comes with a freezer, then frozen fruit is also a wonderful option! Frozen fruit does not expire quickly and is a healthy alternative to popsicles. Reagan suggests making ice cream out of bananas in order to enjoy a frozen treat without the calories. If you have access to a blender, blend—or alternatively, mash—bananas and pour them into a bowl or mug. You can enjoy it on its own, or add nuts, granola, fruit or other healthy toppings before freezing. Reagan also recommends adding a bit of milk before freezing to get the consistency you desire.

Our top picks for produce:

  • Bell peppers
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Grapes
  • Apples
  • Oranges
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Bananas
  • Edamame

Protein

String cheese is a quick and easy way to get protein! Slice it up and eat it with crackers for a delicious snack, or eat it on its own while you’re walking to class. String cheese is also very easy to store in your fridge because of its compact size and individually wrapped packaging.

Many collegiettes, including Mollie and Iris, keep their fridges stocked with Greek yogurt, which is an easy way to add healthy protein into your diet. Greek yogurt with granola is a healthy, protein-rich breakfast option that will keep you fuller longer. Additionally, individual packaged yogurt is stackable and does not take up much space in your fridge.

Lunch meat is a great addition to any mini fridge due to its versatility. Roll it up with cheese or keep some bread in your room to make easy sandwiches.  Other options for protein pick-me-ups include peanut or almond butter and edamame. Make a peanut or almond butter sandwich or eat it with apples, and try adding edamame to your lunch meat roll-ups for easy, protein-filled meals. These can be eaten on the go or while studying in your dorm!

Our top picks for protein:

  • String cheese
  • Greek yogurt
  • Lunch meat
  • Peanut or almond butter
  • Hummus

Drinks

While it is important to stay hydrated, you shouldn’t bother buying bottled water to keep in your fridge. Most dorms and sorority houses will have a hydration station available to you where you can fill up a reusable water bottle whenever you need to. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t use your fridge to store other drinks!

Fruit and vegetable juices are great pick-me-ups and can satisfy a late night craving for a sweet drink. While coffee is delicious, you’ll regret drinking it at midnight when you have an 8:00 am class the next day. Natural juice, such as Santa Cruz Organic, Simply Orange or Whole Foods 365 brand juices, can be a late night treat or an early morning drink, without caffeine or added sugars contained in coffee and soda.

Whether it is dairy, soy, almond or coconut, milk is an awesome and healthy addition to any mini fridge. You can drink it on its own, have it with cereal for breakfast, or even use it in your coffee whenever you need a caffeinated pick-me-up!

Coconut water is also a great addition to any mini fridge due to its electrolytes and refreshing taste. Although some people do not like the flavor, it can also come infused with fruit juices, such as peach and pineapple, to make for a very tropical tasting drink.

Many of these drinks are also available in small, portable bottles that are ideal for storing in your mini fridge.

Our top picks for drinks:

  • Natural fruit and vegetable juice: Santa Cruz Organic, Simply Orange, Whole Foods 365
  • Milk: dairy, almond, soy or coconut
  • Coconut water

How to budget your grocery shopping

So you’re on your way home from class and you want to buy a yogurt parfait from the campus market…resist! Unless you’re trying to spend all of your dining dollars as fast as you can, you should probably steer clear of doing your grocery shopping at on-campus markets and convenience stores. Instead, check out grocery stores and local farmer’s markets! Grocery stores usually have sales each week, and there are coupons for certain products available online.

One way to keep track of what food you have to buy and eat is to create a shopping list and then hang it on your fridge after you get back from the grocery store. This way, you know what snacks you have before you even open your fridge, and it serves as a constant visible reminder to eat your food before it expires! Various apps, such as Wunderlist and Grocery IQ, which are available for iPhone and Android, allow you to keep a digital grocery list that is always at your fingertips.

Costco and Sam’s Club are great places to purchase food in bulk. If you or your friends have memberships to either of these stores, you can split the cost (and the groceries) among each of you and store it in each of your fridges to be space and cost efficient.  Trader Joe’s has healthy snack options and great prices on produce for collegiettes on a budget and local farmer’s markets often offer produce at a lower price than grocery stores.

Additionally, your dining hall is filled with fruit, and most dining halls allow students to take at least one piece of fruit home with them after each meal. Samantha Burke, a senior at Siena College, says, “I take as many ingredients for this stuff from the dining hall as I can!”

Whether you are a freshman or a student living in dorms or a sorority house, use these tips and tricks to your advantage when purchasing products for your mini fridge. At the end of the day, you’ll be craving healthy snacks—and you won’t have any regrets when eating these late night bites!

Hillary Clinton Can’t Campaign in California Because She Has Pneumonia

Hillary Clinton and her campaign team canceled an upcoming trip to California after pneumonia symptoms nearly caused the presidential nominee to faint during a 9/11 memorial ceremony on Sunday, Reuters reports.

According to Reuters, Clinton was first diagnosed with the condition on Friday. She scheduled an appointment with Dr. Lisa Bardack to check up on the coughing episodes she'd been experiencing. Dr. Bardack concluded that Clinton’s cough was caused by pneumonia, so she prescribed an antibiotic and encouraged her to work periods of rest into her otherwise pretty relentless schedule.

In spite of Dr. Bardack’s diagnosis, the Guardian reports that Clinton chose to attend a Manhattan-based 9/11 memorial ceremony on Sunday. Though the ceremony centered on remembering the victims of the attacks, focus quickly shifted following Clinton’s abrupt exit about 90 minutes after arriving.

CNN reports that even people within the Clinton campaign didn't know she had pneumonia until Sunday. As this incident follows several conspiracy theories about Clinton's health, people close to the campaign told CNN that she may have to release more medical records and address the public's concerns about her physical ability to serve as president.

The New York Times took a look at what a pneumonia diagnosis means for Clinton. Because she's 68 years old and, as the source reports, those at or above age 65 may have a more difficult time recovering from the illness, deciding to forgo her west-coast fundraising events was likely the best move.

Hillary Clinton Says She Regrets Calling Trump Supporters "Deplorables"

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton revealed she “regrets” stating that “half” of the people who support Donald Trump are “deplorables,” CNN reports.

It was a takeback of presidential proportions. According to CNN, Clinton was speaking at a fundraising event late Friday when she made the now-infamous comment. The Democratic nominee decided to detail her interpretation of Trump’s supporters.

"To just be grossly generalistic, you can put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables," she said. "Right? Racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it."

CNN reports Clinton then went on to declare that some of her opponent’s fans are “irredeemable” people who fail to represent America. She even added that “he [Donald Trump] has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people, now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric."

Speaking of Twitter, it should go without saying that Trump Tweeted a response to Clinton’s comments.

He’s not the only person who took to the Twitterverse. The backlash was swift, though some also used Twitter to say Clinton was right to point out racism among Trump's supporters.

Although Clinton withdrew her controversial words almost immediately after being called out, CBS News reveals that Trump and his campaign team have already utilized them in an attack ad. The television spot aired Monday.

CNN quotes Clinton as saying that she “won’t stop calling out bigotry and racist rhetoric” in Trump’s campaign. Meanwhile, the Republican nominee’s latest ad is a sign that he also has no plans to reel it in this election season.

Are Taylor Swift & Kesha Making Music Together?

Kesha and Taylor Swift may seem like an unlikely duo, but their friendship has shown us the power of girls supporting girls. So it would make sense that when Kesha uploaded a cryptic post to Instagram about a new song collaboration, fans would assume it *might* be with a certain pop singer...

Fans filled the comments on the post, practically begging for Taylor to be Kesha's partner on this one. After all, Taylor is a casual Grammy award-winner person, and eagle-eyed fans noted the fact that Kesha tacked on a series of 13—Taylor's lucky number—to the caption.

If we're going to be honest, we 100% hope it's T.Swift because we can only imagine what a fuck you song coming from this pair would be like.

Chloë Grace Moretz Has Dropped Out of All Her Upcoming Films

If you were excited to see the classy and sassy Chloë Grace Moretz (of "Kick-Ass" and "Hugo" fame) in her highly-anticipated "Little Mermaid"remake, you might have wait a bit... or a lot.

The young actress spoke to the Hollywood Reporter at the Deauville American Film Festival last week, where she revealed that she's made the decision to drop out of all her current film projects for a reason we can probably all relate to: some much-needed me time.

“I pulled the plug on all my movies because I want to reassess who I am and find myself within my roles again,” she said. “I’m realizing that I can slow down.”

Moretz at the Deauville French Film Festival where she received the award for "Rising Star"

Moretz is long overdue for a vacation: the 19-year-old television and film star has been in the business almost all her life, amassing a whopping 58 acting credits, according to IMDB. She just recently wrapped up production on two films coming out later this year: "Brain on Fire," a psychological drama and "November Criminal," a thriller, but will be withdrawing from all of her other acting obligations and will instead channel her creative efforts on producing and television.

She's also going to have a pretty busy schedule campaigning for presidential nominee and personal friend Hillary Clinton (that's right, she's 'with her'!) in preparation for the fast-approaching November election.

Being career-driven is never a bad thing, but equally as important is being able to recognize when you need to take some time off, too. We're glad Moretz is taking care of herself—and this should be a lesson to us all!

David Bowie's Final Recordings Are Going to Be Released This October

With the shocking news of David Bowie's passing of cancer earlier this year at his Manhattan apartment, a death which truly rocked the music and cultural world to its core, fans of the late singer, actor and songwriter were faced with the reality that the album "Blackstar" (released in late 2015) would be the Starman's final contribution to the world.

Well...not quite. According to Rolling Stone, it turns out that in preparation for Bowie's final opus, the smash Broadway musical Lazarus (a ticket even hotter to snag than Hamilton) starring Dexter actor Michael C. Hall, Bowie recorded three of his own versions of songs featured in the musical: "No Plan,""Killing A Little Time" and "When I Met You." The musical is loosely based on his 1976 feature film The Man Who Fell To Earth. The tracks were recorded by Bowie during his Blackstar sessions but have remained unreleased until now.

These three songs, along with Bowie's album version of Lazarus, will be included on the second disc of the official 2-disc cast album for the musical, set to be released October 21. In a sad twist of events, the cast began recording the album on January 11 of this year, just hours after Bowie had died—they were told of his death upon entering the studio.

Diehard fans can pre-order the album starting September 16, and when you do, you'll also get two bonus tracks: Hall's version of "Lazarus" and Sophie Anne Caruso's interpretation of "Life On Mars."

The icon's death still looms large in the music business, even 8 months later. But with any hope, these final tracks might provide some sense of closure for heartbroken fans all over the world.

Jill Stuart's Latest Collection Has Us Wanting to Get Up & Dance

Backstage at Jill Stuart, there's a woman in a white dress frolicking in a field under a friendly, sunny sky. It's a poster, granted, but its youthful exuberance is one that will pass through both the beauty and fashion looks for the designer's Spring/Summer 2017 collections.

For the second time this Fashion Week, the stylishly undone hairdo has made its appearance, this time fluffed and then slicked into place by lead hairstylist Didier Malige using PHYTO products. The look is one of having just left a nightclub, walking out into the darkness with hair glamorously dewy from shaking one's thing all night. I'm not sure if that was the original intention, but it works given that Stuart's collection is inspired by dancers. This look is perpetuated on the face with colorful metallic pastel eyeshadows pressed delicately over the eye and topped with black eyeliner and a light blush on the cheek. The look was designed by lead makeup artist Aaron de Mey using products from Jill Stuart's beauty collection.

I've always found Stuart's collections especially wearable: they're creative in a way that a modern woman can wear them and still look stylish. This season is no different. On the runway, the ensembles make me think of images of famed 1970s-1980s New York nightclub Danceteria, where women wore Danskin and Capezio ensembles that moved easily and didn't suffocate the body for optimum boogie capabilities. Stuart's collection this season did the same, with additional dance-related details like ballet pink and wrap-style tops. The designer blended the ideas together, too, with light, geometric dresses in the aforementioned pink as well as taupe wrap dresses and halter dresses all of which I could see shimmying 'til the morning hours in the nightclubs of yore as well as today.

We’ve decided the classic dinner/movie date is way overplayed, so here are some exciting new things to try. And don’t worry—we’ve got every type of campus couple covered.

For the adventurous couple:

For you collegiettes (and baes) seeking a little thrill, here are some date ideas that won’t let you down.

1. Hiking

Hiking (or camping, if you’re feeling super adventurous!) is an awesome way to explore the outdoors while also exploring your partner. "I've gone on a hiking date with my boyfriend and it was amazing!" says Isabel Calkins, a junior at New York University. "We got to explore just the two of us and get lost and it was truly an adventure. You really get to see a different side of someone when you are sweating and covered in mud from the wilderness." There’s something about being completely surrounded by nature that will definitely bring you closer to one another.

2. Rafting

While the weather is still warm, why not pack some lunches and go rafting for the day? You’ll definitely make some awesome memories and will stay cool in the summer heat.

3. Quad picnic

Having a picnic on the quad is not only super romantic, but also super easy! Go around dinnertime when campus isn’t as crowded and stake out your spot. If your campus isn’t dry, you can even bring a bottle of wine along!

4. Baking night

If you’re a homebody but don’t want to sit on the couch, why not embody Betty Crocker for the night? Look up some recipes on Pinterest you’ve always wanted to try and have a baking party with your SO. Cooking or baking together is a ton of fun, and you’ll have yummy treats to eat and give to your friends! [quote?]

For the wild couple:

Some of us love to drink, dance and get a little crazy. If this sounds like you and bae, here are some dates you’ll love.

5. Bar crawl

If you and your SO love to go out and party, going on a bar crawl together is a great date to try. Go with just the two of you or a group of friends—you’re bound to have an awesome night either way.

6. Dance lessons

As silly as it may sound, taking a dance class with your boyfriend or girlfriend is something you’ll always remember. Salsa, merengue…the list goes on. Some universities even offer free ballroom classes! You’ll be laughing all night and, hey, you’ll be the best-looking ones the next time you go out.

For the old-school couple:

If you’re a fan of tradition and want a romantic night with your SO, here’s an idea you’ll love.

7. Stargazing

Stargazing has been a great date for centuries—and for good reason. There’s nothing quite like laying under the beautiful night sky with the one you love next to you. Bring a portable speaker, or simply listen to the sounds of the night. You’ll never want to leave that spot. [quote?]

8. Drive-in movies

What’s more romantic than an evening at the drive-in? "My favorite date of all time is going to the drive-in," says Shelly Adams, a junior at Shenandoah University. "We back my pick-up truck into the spot, lay an old mattress pad down in the bed and cuddle under blankets. It's super sweet, and a really intimate way to watch a movie, because you can talk while the film is showing and no one can hear you. It's super cheap and super fun; I never miss a chance to go!" Grab some snacks, put the back seat down and cuddle up for a movie (or two).

Whether you and your SO are looking for an adventure or a quiet night together, one of these date ideas is bound to fulfill your needs. Don’t let the typical college dates bog you down—there are a ton of new, exciting dates for you to go on this year!

What to Do When He's Acting Flaky

$

At some point in time we’ve all received the text message, “We have to hang out,” that results in no follow-through. This is the classic flaky boy response. That text turns into three more text messages saying exactly the same thing three weeks in a row. Then that gets your hopes up and before you know it you are disappointed again. Here’s advice on how to deal with those flaky boys.

Why is he being flaky?

First, here are three possible causes for the flakiness to help understand the situation a little better. The problem was assessed by expert Patti Feinstein, America’s Dating Coach, and then we got the lowdown from the people who know what is really going on--college men.

1. He’s a yes man.

This guy has a hard time saying “no” for whatever reason. Vishal Duvvuru, a senior at The University of Texas at Austin, says that he tends to fall into the “yes man” category. The bad thing about being a yes man is that too many yeses turn into noes once he ends up realizing he overbooked himself.

2. He’s just not that into you.

Feinstein says, “He’s just not that into you. If he didn’t actually show up or make it happen then he didn’t care enough to. He wasn’t excited or compelled enough.” The truth is that if a guy wants to hang out with you, he will make it happen. He won’t flake. When a guy wants something, he goes after it. So move on to someone more worth your time.

3. He’s actually super busy.

He could just be busy. Alexander Zwaan, a recent graduate from The University of Texas at Austin, spoke about how the excuses could be a product of how he has a lot going on in his life at the moment. From his recent job search, he hasn’t been able to devote time to his personal life and dating. He suggests that he could’ve had something come up, so maybe you should give him a break.

How to Deal

Now here are some solutions to try and work around the flaky boy syndrome.

1. Get rid of the OPTION to hang out.

Give him a concrete date, time and place. Being specific with plans normally makes plans seem more legitimate and eliminates the possibility of him bailing on you.

2. Don’t respond to his text messages for a while.

Play the game back at him. You’d be surprised what the chase in a game of cat and mouse can do. See what his response is to you not playing his games anymore.

3. Move on.

Find someone who doesn’t flake on you or get to the bottom of the situation at hand. Feinstein advises, “You are lucky to learn your lesson early on about what kind of man he is. Just imagine what he is like as a boyfriend! At least now you only have to wait 25 minutes instead of longer later on.” Find someone who treats you right the first time around. You deserve to be taken on a date, so stop letting flaky boys get to you and find someone who contributes to your happiness.

Always remember that you should be the one who is pursued, not the one who is waiting around. Feinstein puts it perfectly when she says, "The girl who is stood up will always find someone better because everyone will fight for her to find a great guy, and she will fight for herself. Women will prevail over the men who are not worth their time." Love is a tricky thing and nothing comes easy, especially when it comes to dating. So keep on searching until you find the man that is going to treat you right!

TOME Brought One Of The Most Diverse Shows to Fashion Week

After four or five days of grueling makeup-on/makeup-off scenarios, anyone's skin would be freaking out, perhaps most of all the models involved in the Fashion Weeks around the world. Today, however, backstage at TOME, skincare expert Tata Harper brought models a respite from the foundations, shadows, and creams for which their faces had been a canvas. With her Refreshing Cleanser, she removed excess oil and makeup for a clean slate, following it with a Hydrating Floral Essence that both minimizes the appearance of pores and moisturizes the skin. Her Rebuilding Moisturizer followed, hydrating then mattifying the skin, as did a Restorative Eye Crème to reduce puffiness, and an Aromatic Stress Treatment to promote relaxation.

While backstage skincare is sometimes just a treat for models, this time it was integral to the show's beauty looks. Makeup by Diane Kendal for MAC Cosmetics featured only matte skin courtesy of first Harper then the makeup team, as well as a darkened brow, and a swipe of white paint on the sides of the face in homage to the Dinka Tribe, native to South Sudan. This look that was "natural with an edge of universal and tribal" was duplicated in the hair looks by Antoinette Beenders for Aveda. Lightly fluffed then sprayed through for texture, the hair was that same stylishly undone look that appeared at some other shows this season.

I was happy to see, too, the greatest diversity in casting at any show I had attended so far this season. Models of all ethnicities, ages, and body types were having their makeup done backstage. It was nice to see "universal" reflected in this aspect of TOME's Spring/Summer 2017 collection as well, a lesson many designers could use moving forward.

Zero + Mario Cornejo's SS17 Collection is Equal Parts Modern & Free-Spirited

Deliciously undone seems to be the name of the beauty game this season—which, interestingly, is not too different from last season. There seems to be all around a pull away from the heavily made-up, infinitely contoured visage, a love of the fresh face and a commitment to a more natural look.

For Zero + Maria Cornejo Spring/Summer 2017, lead makeup artist Dick Page continued this trend using Shiseido products, blending a grayish creme eyeshadow with lip balm and pressing it over and under the eye for soft yet lively shine. He added just a framing of soft pink blush over the cheeks—blending it into place in a way that matched each model's unique facial structure—and a swipe of lip balm on the lips. It was meant to match Maria Cornejo's eco-friendly and sustainable clothing collection for the season, full of free-spirited and loose yet modern looks.

To complement Cornejo's collection, the inspiration for hair (by James Pecis using PHYTO products) was the soulful sensuality of heat in New Orleans. Pecis maintained the ideals of Cornejo's collection, with an updated take on the Marcel wave, or Marcelling, where hair is styled by bending the hair with a curling iron. Though Marcelling was used in the 1920s and 1930s in a method similar to short, bobbed finger waves, Pecis kept the hair long and elegantly mussed for a look that fit today's style with cool "S-shaped" waves. You can actually get a curling iron to do this specifically—the Hot Tools 1" Professional Marcel Curling Iron—then clamp hair first over then under the curling iron in repetition. Voilà, instant runway style! And you didn't even have to go to New Orleans.

Liquid Lipstick Is The Most-Googled Beauty Product, Because Obviously

We are *obsessed* with our highlight and still can't get enough of the products that give us the perfect brow, but nothing beats the top trending beauty product of the moment: liquid lipstick. The Telegraph reports that it's now the top beauty product search term, pushing the ever-classic "red lipstick" down to second. If we had to guess, we'd say Kylie Jenner is to blame. With her consistently sold-out Lip Kits which have caused quite the craze over the past year, we'd be surprised if liquid lipstick wasn't the top search term.

Candy K is restocked

The youngest Kardashian-Jenner isn't the only one to have released liquid lipsticks, and she certainly wasn't the first. This year alone, Nyx, YSL Beauty and Chanel (among others) have released, are releasing, or have plans to revamp their liquid lipstick offerings.

So what makes them so great? Of course, there's no saying whether liquid color is better than a traditional lipstick—it's really up to personal preference. But there are some undenial benefits to the liquid formula. The product is heavily pigmented, so all it takes is a small amount of color to build up to an opaque coat. The range of finishes is more diverse—you can get anything from glossy to metallic to matte. And perhaps more importantly, liquid lipstick traditionally lasts... and lasts, and lasts. You won't need to reapply as often as you would a regular lipstick—even after eating, drinking (or being out all night).

Ready to jump onto the liquid lipstick train? Here are some of our favorites:

1. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar, $16, occmakeup.com

Known to be the original liquid lipstick, you can't go wrong with this vegan-friendly formula. A tiny, tiny dot (no, really) of this product will leave you with an amazing coat of color that lasts allllll day. The cruelty-free line is made with all-natural ingredients, and because such a small amount of product is required for a full look, the drying effect actually isn't so bad, matte or not. Plus, you can choose from a TON of gorgeous colors, from the classic to the unconventional.

2. Butter London Lippy Liquid Lipstick, $18, butterlondon.com

Looking for a long-lasting, high-shine lip color? This pigmented formula is IT. Made with shea butter and Vitamin E, it's super, super hydrating, unlike many liquid lipsticks you'll come across. Plus, the color stays on for hours on end, which can be difficult to achieve with a glossy lip! The lipstick applies easily and evenly, and all you need is a light layer to get the look—be careful not to apply too much product, otherwise it might feel heavy on your lips!

3. Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit, $29, kyliecosmetics.com

What's a liquid lipstick roundup without Lip Kits, anyway? Kylie's products actually do live up to the hype, and her formulas have only gotten better with time. A traditional matte lipstick makes your lips feel like a desert; it's hard to create a matte finish without a drying effect. But somehow, Kylie gets it right; your lips aren't left feeling like they're about to crack. And if you prep your lips before applying, it almost feels as though you're not wearing any product at all. I like to exfoliate with a sugar scrub before rubbing a drop of Tatcha's Camellia Beauty Oil onto my lips. I'll then coat my lips with a thin layer of Vaseline before letting it sit for about 15 to 30 minutes while I finish the rest of my makeup. Once I top my lips off with the matte lip kit (Candy K is my fave!), the color and moisture will last for hours.
