HC Wake-Up Call: Remains of 63 Fetuses Have Been Found at Funeral Homes In Detroit, Justice Department Trying to Block Young People from Suing Over Climate Change, & Dozens Injured After Floor Collapses at a Apartment Party

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds — we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

Remains of 63 Fetuses Have Been Found at Funeral Homes In Detroit

The remains of 63 fetuses were found at a Detroit funeral home on Friday, according to the Detroit Police Department. It is the second discovery in the city in the same week.

According to Detroit Police, 36 fetuses were discovered in boxes, and 27 were found in the freezer at the Perry Funeral Home. The funeral home is now under investigation by police for mishandling remains and fraud, and the property has since been closed.

“I’m stunned,” said Detroit police chief James Craig. “My team is stunned. God help those families.”

The discovery came one week after police found the remains of 11 infants or fetuses at another funeral home in Detroit, Cantrell Funeral Home. Both discoveries have led to a widening investigation into alleged mishandlings at local funeral homes.

According to The Detroit News, law enforcement agencies are considering forming a special task force to investigate the improper storage of remains and fraud.

“This is larger than we might know,” Craig said. “These are allegations at this point, but it’s very, very disturbing. I’ve never seen anything like it in 41-and-a-half years (as a police officer).”

Justice Department Trying to Block Young People from Suing Over Climate Change

The Justice Department challenged a climate change lawsuit brought by a group of young people who claim the federal government hasn’t acted on climate change. The lawsuit goes to trial in over a week.

According to NBC News, the Justice Department asked the Supreme Court to step in and block a federal district court in Oregon from hearing the case. In court documents filed on Thursday, it called to end a “profoundly misguided suit,” and argued that the lower court “declined to meaningfully narrow respondents’ claims.” The court instead pushed the case to trial, which is scheduled on October 29.

Juliana v. United States was filed in 2015 by a group of 21 youths between ages 10 to 21 years old, who claimed that the federal government violated their Fifth Amendment rights to life, liberty, and property by not acting on climate change and instead promoting fossil fuels despite allegedly knowing the dangers of carbon pollution.

They argued that they have the right to “a climate system capable of sustaining human life,” and allege the federal government hinders that by not reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

The Justice Department argued in return that the youths complaints represented “generalized grievances” and not “an invasion of legally protected interest.” They also claim that the lawsuit “cannot establish that the government policies they challenge...cause their assert injuries.”

Dozens Injured After Floor Collapses at a Apartment Party

At least 30 people injured after a floor collapsed at an apartment clubhouse in Clemson, South Carolina

A group of Clemson University students and local residents were jumping and dancing at the homecoming party hosted by Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, when the floor suddenly gave way. Luckily, no individuals were trapped or suffered life-threatening injuries, according to CNN. Most were sent to the hospital with broken bones and lacerations.

Jaylen Adams told CNN that when people jumped to the music, he felt the floor going up and down like a trampoline. He told his friends to go to the balcony instead, but the floor broke before they could.

“They weren’t hurt at all but other people were crying, bleeding, it was just a shocking moment for everyone,” Adams told CNN.“They then evacuated everyone and ambulances and a helicopter came for all the injured individuals.”

What to Look Out For….

My fellow Muggles, I am pleased to announce that S’ip by S’well launched a line of Harry Potter inspired reusable water bottles! It’s the perfect gift for your Harry Potter obsessed friend, and you won’t have to cast a spell to make it!

'Good Boy Dog Beer' Is Here & Yep, It's Beer For Your Dog

If you own a dog, what kind of dog owner are you? Do you spoil your favorite little companion in anything its heart desires? Do you give him/her only the highest quality food, the finest toys and the comfiest beds? Does the thought of your fluffy buddy having anything but the absolute best make your heart hurt? Are you also someone who enjoys human food being made into funny pet treats?

If you’ve answered yes to all of these questions, dog beer might be your next essential when thinking of gifts for your pupper. Don’t worry, it doesn’t contain actual alcohol or anything that could get your dog feeling funky.

It is a soup like drink made up of chicken, pork and vegetable broth. It’s even safe for human consumption, even though we’d probably advise against that taste.

Each can is $5, which is a little steep, but if you truly believe your dog deserves nothing but the best (which it does) you might consider picking up a six pack.

A couple in Houston, Megan and Steve Long, created this Good Boy Dog Beer with three separate flavors for your dog’s exquisite palette. There is the pork based IPA lot in the yard, chicken based Mailman Malt Licker, and the veggie based Session...squirrel. All three options have to be bought just based off the insanely cute names alone.

You can’t deny that you would love to see your dog lapping up this fake beer. He/she can truly crack one open with you.

For the time being, this brew can only be found at 15 bars around Houston, but the couple is looking into expanding it, according to The Takeout. We can only dream of a day when all dogs can finally sit back, relax, and enjoy a nice warmed up dog beer.

Karlie Kloss' Got Married in the Ultimate Dior Wedding Gown

Karlie Kloss is officially off the market after her and her newlywed husband, Joshua Kushner, had a small, intimate wedding last Thursday. While Karlie made the unique choice to keep the wedding small, she pulled all the stops on her stunning wedding gown. Karlie had her wedding gown custom-made by Dior, and the result was elegant and classic, yet one-of-a-kind. Karlie walked down the aisle in an elegant off-shoulder, lace long sleeve Dior wedding gown. Karlie's full skirt looked like something out of a fairytale while the romantic lace detailing brought a sense of sophisticated beauty.

Karlie has made it her mission to empower the women around her. The 26-year-old newlywed founded her Koding with Klossy program, where she teaches young girls how to code. With the women-centered organization she runs, it's no wonder she chose Dior as the brand behind her wedding gown. Dior now holds another special place in Karlie's heart; from being one of the first brands Karlie modeled for to designing her perfect wedding dress. The designer behind the gown was none other than Grazia Chiuri, Dior's very first female artistic director and designer of the "We Should All Be Feminists" t-shirt from Dior's spring runway show.

Let's hope the two have the most beautiful married life ahead for them.

7 Halloween Makeup Tutorials If You Want a Girl Power Costume

Halloween is here, like, pretty much now. If you’re anything like us, you’ve been waiting for Halloweentown marathons and brainstorming costumes since November 1 last year. Last Halloween’s festivities saw plenty of handmaids and badass Riverdale ladies, and this year, we’re continuing that trend of powerful women. 2018 saw women everywhere kicking ass and changing the world—and these pop culture icons featured below are certainly no exception. If you want to exude confidence, here are seven makeup looks to empower you and elevate your costume.

1. Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande has had an emotional year. From the release of her highly rated fourth album Sweetener to the tragic death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, she has radiated strength anyone can aspire to have. If you want to feel heavenly this Halloween, you can recreate Grande’s flawless makeup from her hit song ‘God is a woman’.

2. Mulan

Everyone is hyped for the live-action version of Mulan, coming to theaters in 2020. If you want to get ahead of the game, do your makeup like everyone’s favorite warrior princess this Halloween. Besides looking like you’re ready to take on the world—or, at the very least, the entire Hun army—you’ll also showcase that you don’t need to be a man to be tough. You can be whoever you want to be, just like Mulan.

3. Cardi B

She’s everyone’s new favorite rapper, and Cardi B just couldn’t seem to stay out of the headlines in 2018. She broke the Internet with the birth of her baby Kulture and released multiple smash hits. Her recent brawl with Nicki Minaj at a New York Fashion Week Event proves that Cardi B doesn’t put up with B.S.—and honestly, neither should you.

4. Gamora from Infinity War

If you’re looking for a more daring, powerful costume this Halloween, this is 100 percent it. Not only do you paint your entire face green, but you also get to practice your contouring and rock some glittery brows. Let’s just hope (SPOILER ALERT) you don’t get wiped out by Thanos before Halloween.

5. Kylie Jenner

Love her or hate her, Kylie Jenner had one of the biggest years of her career. Not only did she make the cover of Forbes Magazine for apparently being the “youngest self-made billionaire” (there are debates as to whether she qualifies), she also ran her successful makeup company all while raising her newborn baby, Stormi. If you want to inspire a little controversy this year, spice it up and be Kylie Jenner.

6. The Black Panther

In what became the third highest grossing movie of all time, Black Panther stunned audiences this year with its focus on authentic storytelling and representation. If you want to stun at a Halloween bash this year, you can recreate this beautiful eyeshadow look inspired by the Black Panther. Wakanda forever, indeed.

7. Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman is the classic Halloween staple to represent female empowerment, but why not upgrade your look this time around? YouTube celeb Nikkie de Jager puts a Pop Art twist on the classic superhero, and you’ll be standing out no matter what party you attend. Stand tall and stand proud this year as your own unique Wonder Woman!

If you’re striving to feel empowered this Halloween and feel like your regular costumes just aren’t cutting it, these looks above will make you simply unforgettable. Never forget to accent your costume with the best accessory possible: confidence!

'A Star Is Born' Reimagined With 8 of Our Favorite Celeb Pairings

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper have undeniable chemistry in the latest edition of A Star Is Born. But as great as their chemistry and as compelling of a film, after watching, I wondered how the chemistry and the film itself would have changed if a different pair of celebs had been cast. So, I scoured pop culture (and the depths of my brain) to come up with the best celeb pairings and plotlines for the next possible batch of A Star is Born remakes.

1. Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron

Plot: In an instance of art imitating life, two former child stars (and exes!) must reunite to revitalize their careers… and their relationship.

Key musical number: “You Were Always The Music In Me,” in which they realize they never should have split up

2. Lana Condor and Noah Centineo

Plot: Two young aspiring performers get their big break together and are forced to fake a relationship for an intricate marketing campaign.

Key musical number: “I Don’t Feel Nothing,” a double negative of a song in which Noah Centineo’s character realizes that he *actually* has feelings for Lana Condor

3. Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan

Plot: Timmy and Sersh are tried and true indie coffeehouse performers, who resent the mainstream entertainment industry and make a pact to never sell out. But when they fall on hard times, they go their separate ways, each selling out in their own way, only to be reunited in an emotional conclusion.

Key musical number: “No Love,” an acoustic opening number in a coffee shop where they sing of their thinly veiled disdain for mainstream entertainment.

4. Zendaya and Tom Holland

Plot: Zendaya plays a mega pop star who is wowed by a new dancer on her tour—played by Tom Holland. She works to help start his career but is heartbroken when he leaves to become a member of a prestigious dance company. No professional jealousy in this one, just lots of romantic angst.

Key musical number: “Always and Forever,” a heart-wrenching ballad Z sings on Tom’s final night on her tour, in which she promises to love him…always and forever

5.Chrissy Teigen and John Legend

Plot: A classical musician (John Legend) is told by management that he needs to engage with fans more frequently on social media. Clueless about how to navigate, he partners with an up-and-coming social media influencer (Chrissy Teigen), whose rise to fame soon eclipses his.

Key musical number: An angry piano instrumental that underscores a montage of John Legend’s character quietly seething about all of the attention Chrissy Teigen is getting

6.Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart

Plot: Cole and Lili are a longtime couple that writes pretentious novels together under a pseudonym. But one day, Lili submits a piece of original fiction to The New Yorker and becomes the talk of the town, leading Cole to question whether he values their professional or romantic relationship more.

Key musical number: No singing from either of them, but the music of Fleetwood Mac is featured prominently throughout the film.

7. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine

Plot: It’s exactly the same as the 2018 A Star is Born

Key musical number: I just want to hear them sing “Shallow”

8. Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence

Plot: Two friends start their own YouTube sketch show and quickly find fame on the internet. There’s no competition or jealousy in this one, because it’s a film about women supporting women.

Key musical number: No singing in this one. Instead, their sketches are featured throughout the film.

I’m waiting by the phone, Hollywood. Let’s make these movies happen!

Ranging from Halloween-themed churros to Hades Nachos to poisoned apples, Disney really has it all. (But, we already knew that.)

8. Dunkin' Donuts

If you aren't lucky enough to live in Anahheim or Orlando, Dunkin’ Donuts also goes all out for Halloween! We’re talking Scary Strawberry, Choc-O-Lantern and Vampire’s Delight. They’re all delicious and they’re all Insta-ready.

With so many options for so many different people, it’s almost impossible not to find something to like about Halloween! As far as the treats go, they’re some of the most delicious snacks out there. It’s so nice to see our favorite celebrity couples make it through all the hardships of dating: Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra, Gigi Hadid and Zayn… Wait, what? Did you just say Gigi and Zayn? Didn’t they just break up a few months ago?

Yeah, they did. But that was a while ago. Now they seem to be right back at it. Gigi shared a snuggly pic of the two of them on Instagram yesterday. “Flyin home to my happy place,” she captioned the snapshot, burying her face into a shirtless Zayn. That certainly looks pretty couple-y to me, just saying!

According to Harper’s Bazaar, the two haven’t outright confirmed anything, but have been dropping hints of their lasting connection on social media for the past few months, following their very public breakup in March. The two reportedly got back together in June, as evidenced by an Instagram Story Gigi posted of herself playing Pokemon while sitting in Zayn’s lap. Zayn also shared an Insta of them going flower-picking in August.

Gigi and Zayn’s on-again off-again relationship is also evident in Zayn’s music. In his newest song, “Fingers,” he sings about a tumultuous love affair: “F--ked and I want ya/Looked and I loved ya/Stuck, now I need ya/Hopin' I'd see ya.”

The song also implies that the two rekindled their relationship over text. “What did I tell ya? Typo said I loved ya/Didn't mean what I was saying/No, I wasn't playing, just confused/Was tryna play it smooth.”

However they ended up back together, it’s nice to see some wholesome couple content on my feed!

51 Thoughts I Had While Watching 'You' Episode 7

You continues to shock and surprise me, making it very hard for me to sleep on Sunday nights. This week was no exception. In addition to Joe continuing to be creepy, this week served up some incredible guest stars, serious plot progression and many moments that made me audibly yell at my TV. Here are 51 things I was thinking during this week’s episode of You

1. Holy John Stamos—Uncle Jesse is here to help. He’s a therapist of some sort?

2. This weird Scrabble date is kind of cute

3. A redo of Beck’s first kiss—"I’m finally going to kiss the right guy”—NO YOU’RE NOT BECK

4. Joe, you’ve made a big mistake having your girlfriend work with you.

5. Uncle Jesse the Therapist is smoking weed during a session? That doesn't feel very professional.

6. Beckdeltest= the best username ever

7. Beck does more work at the bookstore than she’s done anywhere else at any point during this show.

8. Beck is seeing a therapist—good for her. Joe is horrible for making her feel bad about it

9. JOE IS SEEING BECK’S THERAPIST

10. Joe’s voiceover is so upsetting

11. I need to stop watching this show before I go to bed

12. “Things were Ross and Rachel with you. You were copacetic.” OMG what a pop culture reference from Uncle Jesse the Therapist.

13. Renaldo? Joe needs to come up with some better fake names.

14. THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULDN’T WORK WITH YOUR S.O. SO EARLY IN THE RELATIONSHIP.

15. Ethan is seriously dropping some great relationship advice.

16. Joe is now impersonating Mr. Mooney? What craziness can’t this man pull off?

17. This woman (Karen?) chasing Ron away with a baseball bat should be a national hero. Can she chase Joe away too?

18. A bookstore scavenger hunt? I’m really mad that so many adorable date ideas are being used on this creepy show!

19. Can we stop showing shots of Joe chewing? It’s weird and I don’t need four gratuitous shots of his mouth moving like that.

20. This is the most we’ve ever seen (and heard) of Beck’s friend…Lynn?

21. A BOOK THEMED SURPSIED PARTY? WHERE EVERYONE DRESSES AS THEIR FAVORITE LITERARY CHARACTER? AGAIN, WHY ARE THESE CUTE DATES WASTED ON THIS SHOW?

22. Is Beck cheating on Joe with Uncle Jesse? I’m not saying I support this, but…

23. Of course, Joe would go as Hemingway.

24. And of course, he would mansplain his costume.

25. Can I plan a party with Ethan?

26. “How American!” is what I too would say when entering a surprise party

27. Dorothea Brooke is an awesome literary costume. Middlemarch deserves so much more representation in mainstream popular culture

28. And I love that Ethan named his cat after George Eliot.

29. Yes Beck. CALL HIM OUT!

30. “Why are you wearing a turtleneck?” That isn’t the most pressing question you need to be asking, Beck.

31. Joe needs to respect Beck’s boundaries. And she needs to dump him.

32. FINALLY, Beck is standing up for herself and not putting up with Joe’s BS.

33. This trailer for the new Shay Mitchell movie (The Possession of Hannah Grace)  is really creepy. I’m scared and have no plans to see this film.

34. Joe playing with this letter opener is scary…

35. Ooh, more Candace drama!

36. And info about Joe’s childhood!

37. Why is Beck showing up at his door with doughnuts?

38. I’m waiting for the day that Beck’s old phone falls out of the ceiling and she finally realizes that Joe is a creep.

39. OH MY GOD SHE CAUGHT HIM WHEN HE FOLLOWED HER TO THE PARK

40. This is a very awkward place to be having this fight

41. Is Joe going to kill Uncle Jesse?

42. Nope, we’re back to the classic hacking computers move.

43. Joe has destroyed Beck’s phone!

44. Don’t take him back, Beck!!

45. Oh, I’m so happy that Ethan has found love.

46. Who is this woman that Joe is now hooking up with?

47. Is it Karen?

48. Candace is back and issuing a stern warning.

49. Wait, Joe and Beck are breaking up!

50. Are we finally getting the happy ending we want!

51. I can’t wait to see what happens when we flash forward three months next week.

You airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on Lifetime.

Zombie Skittles Will Be Rising From The Dead For Us Next Year

Skittles is a reliable candy, one which has always delivered the classic rainbow taste to all of us. Now, they’re throwing us a curveball by announcing that there will be a zombie pack coming in a year, according to Food & Wine. Yes, a year. They are seriously keen to get 2019 in the works. How proactive of them!

Apparently, there will be the same flavors but with new, fear-induced names. These include Petrifying Citrus Punch, Mummified Melon, Chilling Black Cherry, Boogeyman Blackberry and Blood Red Berry.

So, where’s the zombie aspect, you ask? Well, there will be a Rotten Zombie flavored skittle randomly thrown into every bag. You won’t know which one it is and what it tastes like. Skittle is deciding to keep that a secret from us for a whole year.

Any new candy creation is always exciting, and this is very Russian Roulette-esque.

What better way to get in the halloween spirit a year early than trying to guess what this mysterious flavor could be. Now we wait in anticipation

Christmas Tree Flavored Chips Are A Thing, So Like, Happy Holidays

Just when you thought the latest food creations couldn’t get any weirder, there are now Christmas tree flavored chips. Who needs a tree when you can just eat one right? For all those odd cravings out there, this one is seriously different. I’ve never once thought of eating a tree but, hey, maybe it could be nutritious? I seriously don’t know anymore.

A supermarket named Iceland in the UK has created this new flavor just in time for the holiday spirit. Even though Halloween has still yet to come, we are already queuing up the Mariah Carey Christmas album and buying all the eggnog in stock.

The official name of the chip is Christmas Tree Flavor Salted Hand-Cooked Crisps. How English. According to the website it is a mixture of potatoes (obviously), sunflower oil, pine oil and pine salt seasoning. The closest it can be compared to is a rosemary taste, according to Foodbeast.

If you’re looking for a chip that lets you feel like you’re literally getting a taste of the woods, this might be the one for you.

For those that are truly excited by this creation, it is sadly only available in the UK for right now. One bag costs roughly $1.30. If you have any friends living there, maybe suggest a box full of these crisps. The package literally has a pine cone on it so there is truly no hiding the slight strangeness of this. Who knows, maybe it could be your new favorite chip?

Pete Davidson Opened Up About His Breakup With Ariana Grande During A Comedy Show

On Saturday night, Pete Davidson made his first stage appearance since the news of calling off his engagement with Ariana Grande, co-hosting the comedy show Judd & Pete for America with Judd Apatow, which benefits Swing Left at Largo at the Coronet in West Hollywood.

"Well, as you could tell, I don't want to be here. There's a lot going on," Davidson told the crowd. "Does anybody have any open rooms? Looking for a roommate?"

During their relationship, Grande had acquired a $16 million apartment in New York City for her and Davidson. According to E! News, Davidson is "staying with family" and was "doing fine" after the split.

Davidson also joked about covering a tattoo he had gotten in tribute of Grande during their relationship. "Um, I've been covering a bunch of tattoos, that's fun," Davidson told the crowd. "I'm f--king 0 for 2 in the tattoo [department]. Yeah, I'm afraid to get my mom tattooed on me, that's how bad it is."

Davidson and Grande had gotten many matching and other tribute tattoos during the time they were together. Grande recently made her first post-split appearance at a taping of NBC's A Very Wicked Halloween, wearing a Band-Aid over one of her tats.

"So, obviously you know I, we [Ariana and I] broke up or whatever but when me and her first got engaged we got tattoos," he continued. "And it was like in a magazine like, 'Was Pete Davidson stupid?' And 93% of it said yes," Davidson told the audience. "So my boy, he was like, 'Don't listen to that s--t man. They're literally f--king haters.' And I'm like, yeah, f--k that. I'm not stupid. And the other day we were in my kitchen and he was like, 'Yo bro. Turns out you were stupid.'"

Apatow praised Davidson for showing up at the show, which took place three days after he was photographed for the first time since the breakup news, walking in New York City.

"Well, you put me on the flyer, I had to," Davidson said, joking, "F--k my feelings."

"I care more about America than your feelings, I do," Apatow joked. "I care more about America than Pete's feelings."

Grande had broken her silence on her and Davidson's split last week, writing on her since-deleted Instagram story: "Time to say bye bye to the internet for just a lil bit. it's hard not to bump news n stuff that i'm not tryna to see rn. It's very sad and we're all tryin very hard to keep goin. love u. and thank u for bein here always."

According to E! News, a close source stated Grande has kept "in close contact with her family and they are keeping an eye on her and supporting her" and that her loved ones "have urged her to take a break and really relax and take time for herself. Ariana wants to keep going, keep recording music and move on with her life, but understands that she needs to also deal with her emotions."

From the looks of it, this breakup only fueled Grande's motivation in working on her music career and her upcoming tour for her latest album, Sweetener.

Although I was totally rooting for these two, I wish them all the best during this heartbreaking time.

'Party of Five' Freeform Reboot to Focus on Immigration, With '13 Reasons Why' Star Brandon Larracuente Rounding Out Cast

Freeform is bringing back the popular 1990s family drama Party of Five, which revolves around a Mexican-American family. The reboot, however, will have an immigration twist, as 13 Reasons Why star Brandon Larracuente, Emily Tosta (Mayans M.C.), Niko Guardado (The Goldbergs) and newcomer Elle Paris Legaspi set to join the cast as the four older Buendía siblings.

According to Deadline, the original series, which aired on Fox, centered around the five Salinger siblings who suddenly become orphans after their parents are killed by a drunk driver in a car accident. The Freeform reboot will have an immigration-theme as the show will revolve around the five Buendia children as they navigate through the struggles of adolescence and surviving as a family after their parents are deported back to Mexico.

Larracuente, Guardado, Tosta and Legaspi will play versions of the characters from the original series played by Matthew Fox, Scott Wolf, Neve Campbell and Lacey Chabert, respectively.

Courtesy of Freeform

According to a press release from Freeform, Larracuente will play Emilio Buendía, the oldest son of Gloria and Javier Buendía and an aspiring musician. Emilio was the reason that his parents crossed the U.S.-Mexico border 25 years ago, in hopes of attaining a better life. While Emilio may be the oldest, he’s definitely not the most responsible one of the siblings, and had been enjoying a life away from home. However, that freedom is now threatened when his parents’ status is in jeopardy.

Tosta will portray Lucia Buendía, a straight-A student that has dreams of attending college until her parents run into some trouble with immigration. Her parents’ circumstances force her to reevaluate her willingness to follow the rules, and she quickly becomes rebellious. Not adhering to her expected duties as the oldest sister, Lucia becomes politically radicalized.

Guardado will play Beto Buendía, the second oldest brother of the family. Unlike his older siblings, Beto steps up in the midst of the family’s uncertainty. Although he struggles with sports, girls and school, Beto finds that being the head of his family comes easily to him, giving him a sense of purpose and the self-respect he didn’t have before.

Lastly, newcomer Elle Paris Legaspi finishes off the Buendía siblings as ten-year-old Valentina Buendía, the resourceful youngest sister. However, Valentina is forced to face adolescence without her parents, and she is afraid of what the future will hold. Her vulnerability about the future will force her older siblings to step up to the plate and offer her the support she needs, but that they aren’t wholly equipped to provide to her.

The original series’ creators, Christopher Keyser and Amy Lippman reunited to write the pilot. Keyser, Lippman and Rodrigo Garcia will executive produce the pilot and Michal Zebede (Castle) will be a co-executive producer, Freeform said in its press release.

While we already know that Freeform tries to deliver bold, original programming to its audiences, this new reboot pilot sounds like it will help give an important look into and start a crucial conversation about immigration.

Prince Harry Revealed He Hopes the Royal Baby Will Be a Girl & We Are Tickled Pink By His Excitement

Meghan Markle might be taking it easy during the royal tour of Australia due to her pregnancy, but Prince Harry is going full steam ahead, greeting fans and telling them his hopes for the royal baby. Specifically, that he hopes the royal baby will be a girl, and we are tickled pink by Harry’s excitement for his little bundle of joy.

According to Cosmopolitan, during an event in Australia, a woman called out to Harry, saying, “I hope it’s a girl!” When Harry couldn’t hear the fan, he replied, “What?”

The fan then repeated, again saying, “I hope it’s a girl!”

Harry quickly replied, “So do I!” as he walked away.

Aww! The Duke of Sussex’s excitement for his baby was sweetly captured on video.

Also, could Harry possibly be hinting at the gender of his and Meghan’s child? While this is the first time that we have heard anything about the royal baby’s gender, Harry did previously joke that he thought  "Harriet" would be a great name, and it is typically a girl’s name.

Harry and Meghan announced they were expecting their first child earlier this month, and the Duchess of Sussex is expected to be about 14 weeks along in her pregnancy.

Kensington Palace announced in a statement over the weekend that the royal couple “decided to cut back The Duchess’s schedule slightly” over the next few days during their ongoing 16-day royal tour of Australia.

“She’s feeling fine but resting,” a royal source told ABC News. “We have to make sure she is well-paced and not overdoing it.”

“She wants to do everything, but Prince Harry is encouraging her to pace herself,” the source said. “If it has been a very late night due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to adjust for that.”

We are just so excited for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and can’t wait for them to welcome their little bundle of joy!

HC Wake-Up Call: Trump 'Not Satisfied' With Saudi Response to Khashoggi's Death, Avenatti Hit With $4.85 Million Judgment & Trump Ditches Lyin' Ted Name

Good morning, Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

Trump 'Not Satisfied' With Saudi Response to Khashoggi's Death

President Donald Trump said he is “not satisfied” with Saudi Arabia’s response to Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, days after the country admitted that Khashoggi died at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul during what the country claims was an interrogation.

“I am not satisfied with what I’ve heard,” Trump told reporters at the White House Monday, adding that the Saudis must speed up their investigation after the country said it needed a month to complete the investigation.

“That’s a long time,” Trump said. “There's no reason for that much. Be faster.”

More than two weeks after the journalist and Saudi royal insider went missing after entering the Saudi consulate, Saudi Arabia admitted to Khashoggi’s death on Friday, ABC News reports. The country said it was a part of an intelligence operation to convince the journalist to return to Saudi Arabia, although the operation was not authorized by senior Saudi leadership. The operation reportedly went wrong when Khashoggi tried to leave the consulate, and the journalist was place in a choke-hold and died.

via Middle East Monitor / Handout via Reuters

That claim has been dismissed as not credible by several U.S. officials and members of Congress, but Trump did not immediately dismiss the Saudi’s response Monday, saying he would withhold judgment until top U.S. intelligence officials could return from a trip to the region.

“We have people over in Saudi Arabia now. We have top intelligence people in Turkey, and we're going to see what we have. I'll know a lot tomorrow,” he said.

Trump did, however, continue his defense of U.S.-Saudi economic relations, and expressed his desire to not disturb that relationship, ABC News reports.

“I don’t want to lose all of that investment that's being made in our country. I don't want to lose a million jobs. I don't want to lose a $110 billion in terms of investment,” he said.

Turkey ramped up its investigation on Monday, searching a car that belongs to the Saudi consulate that was found in an Istanbul parking lot. CNN had also aired video footage of what Turkish authorities said showed one of the suspects leaving the consulate dressed in Khashoggi’s clothes. That suspect has now been arrested.

While Turkish authorities have leaked information regarding the investigation to the press, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will officially go on the record about the investigation before parliament on Tuesday.

In the first official remarks from the Turkish government, Erdogan said he will reveal the details of Turkey's investigation into Khashoggi’s death, saying, “It will be revealed in full nakedness.”

Michael Avenatti Ordered to Pay $4.85 Million to His Former Coworker

Michael Avenatti, attorney to adult film star Stormy Daniels and critic of President Donald Trump, has been ordered to pay $4.85 million to settle a dispute with a former colleague.

A California judge ordered Monday that Avenatti to shell out the payment to attorney Jason Frank, who accused Avenatti of owing him millions for prior work at law firm Eagan Avenatti LLC,The Associated Press reported.

via ABC News

In May, a bankruptcy court had already ordered the law firm to pay Frank $10 million.

According to the AP, Avenatti did not file opposing arguments and did not attend the hearing, but said Monday that Frank owes the firm $12 million “for his fraud.”

The Daily Beast reported Sunday that Avenatti personally owed at least $1.2 million in federal taxes and corporate debts while leading an extravagant lifestyle in the last few years.

In a statement to The Huffington Post on Monday, Avenatti called the report “completely false.”

Avenatti, who has criticized Trump for refusing to release his tax records, recently declared that he is“seriously considering” a run for the presidency.

On Sunday, the attorney reiterated his pledge to release his tax returns if he runs for office, which would provide more detail about his financial history.

Trump Ditches Lyin' Ted Name, Calls Cruz “Beautiful Ted”

President Donald Trump let his past feud with Sen. Ted Cruz be just that: in the past. Having formerly called the senator “Lyin’ Ted” and frequently criticized him on social media, Trump instead praised his former presidential rival before heading to Houston to rally for him.

When the two men were running against each other for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, Trump hurled insults at Cruz, leading to his famous moniker for the Texas Republican: “Lyin’ Ted.” Trump also insulted Cruz’s family, including Cruz’s wife’s appearance.

Trump, instead, began to compliment Cruz as he prepared for his highly anticipated rally in support of the Cruz’s Senate reelection campaign, Politico reports.

“He’s not Lyin’ Ted anymore. He's Beautiful Ted,” Trump said. “I call him Texas Ted.”

When asked if he regretted his comments about Cruz’s family, Trump played the comments off as part of a “very, very nasty and tough campaign.”

“I don't regret anything, honestly,” Trump said. “It all worked out very nicely.”

Cruz is currently being challenged by Rep. Beto O’Rourke for his senatorial seat. O’Rourke has captured national attention, and last quarter, O’Rourke raised more money than any Senate candidate in a single quarter in American history, Politico reports.

But when speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump dismissed O’Rourke while still voicing his support for Cruz.

“I think Beto O’Rourke is highly overrated,” Trump told reporters. “When I heard about him, I thought he must be something special, he's not.”

I Tried to Live Like a Fashion Blogger & TBH, It Was a Blast

$

If you’re anything like me, a good portion of your day is taken up by scrolling through all of the influencers on your Instagram explore page and reading endless fashion round-ups from your fave publications (see: Her Campus). I don’t know what it is about following fashion influencers, but it’s just so interesting to see what new looks they’re sporting and what new brands they find to share with their followers.

So, if I dedicate a ton of my time to following style bloggers and famous fashion influencers, why have I never thought about taking on that role myself? With the Her Campus College Fashion Week in Boston coming around the corner, I thought, “why not give this a shot?” And with that, my journey towards fashion influencer status began.

Figuring out “my brand”

Okay, so I felt like I needed to figure out what my #brand was before moving forward as a fashion blogger. Am I a minimalist chic influencer, or more of an ~edgier~ style blogger? TBH, I couldn’t really tell you. I feel like my fashion taste really depends on my mood and whatever I gravitate towards in online or thrift stores.

To figure out what my brand really was, I decided to just pick out my favorite outfit and go from there. I started to plan out my College Fashion Week outfit for the Boston show and ended up crafting a look that was comfy, cozy, with a little bit of a retro vibe. I felt super comfortable and ~myself~ in my outfit (which is always important), definitely giving me a boost of confidence.

As far as fashion icons go, there was plenty of influence from College Fashion Week attendees who gave me a ton of street style inspo.

The statement pants game was incredible. From flare culottes to skinny plaid pants, bold pants are totally on-trend.

This pea coat dress is taking the professional street style trend to a whole other level.

These Primark models really came to stunt. These fall hues are EVERYTHING.

Building a better online presence

I had to face the tough reality that scrolling through your feed and only posting once a month just doesn’t cut it as a fashion blogger. Not even close. I realized I really needed to push out of my comfort zone and get into the influencer zone.

So, when I had the opportunity to take over the @HerCampusStyle Instagram story before College Fashion Week to show off my outfit, I was so excited to take it to the next level as an aspiring style influencer. Honestly, it was a little nerve-racking to be creating live content for thousands of people — you know, all of them focusing on just me and my style picks. But once I got through my introduction slide and got the hang of it, it was SO much fun.

People are so excited to interact with an Instagram takeover, just like I am when I watch one. It was such an awesome experience being able to create my own content with a large audience. I would totally recommend trying an Instagram takeover, or just getting more creative and interactive with your own Instagram stories!

Attending a fashion show

Attending a fashion show is the perfect event for a fashion blogger — super Insta-worthy backdrops, a chance to see the latest trends on the runway for yourself, and an excuse to dress as trendy as humanly possible. At College Fashion Week, the amount of photo-ops were seriously endless. With all of the amazing sponsors at the fashion event, I will honestly have enough influencer Instagram content to last me for months.

The eos balm pit was one of my favorites at College Fashion Week — not only was it a super cute Instagram moment, but it was also admittedly a ton of fun to play in.

The neon lights at the Ulta Beauty station were honestly every millennials dream. Definitely had to snap a photo under that one for my #influencer catalog.

The Almay Cosmic Café was the absolute cutest space, complete with tons of lipstick & eyeshadow to sample. I mean it when I say I have swatching boomerangs for DAYS after this event.

SABRE’s photo booth at the front of the event had the CUTEST frames ever, making it a must-stop Insta opportunity.

The Primark station was filled with their newest fall lookbook, including on-trend fur coats, plaid prints, turtleneck sweaters and more. Everyone at the event was in fashion HEAVEN trying on all these looks and snapping some selfies for the ‘gram.

Overall, I’d like to think my journey to become a style blogger and influencer was a partially a success. I cultivated my own fashion brand, stepped up my social media game, and was able to attend Her Campus’s College Fashion Week to experience this season’s trends on the runway (and get the cutest Instagram content ever). Despite feeling a little intimidated at the start, I realized that TBH, all you need to do is have fun with it and be confident. Your friends and followers will see that you’re having a blast and that you’re enjoying creating the content. I say give it a try, why not? #doitforthegram

What It Really Means When Donald Trump Says 'I'm A Nationalist’

$

“You know what I am? I'm a nationalist, OK?” said President Donald Trump during a Texas rally for Ted Cruz.“I'm a nationalist.”

This disclosure was not shocking to many anti-Trump groups that have used the term to criticize his character, but Trump look the title with pride while discounting "globalists"— which is frequently a term used to dog-whistle at anti-semitism in far-right circles.

“A globalist is a person that wants the globe to do well, frankly, not caring about our country so much,” said Trump.

The friction between globalist and nationalist ideas are rooted in not just their dictionary definitions, but also the cultural associations that come with each. The definition of nationalism generally has to do with a patriotic feeling for one’s country, but the definition has come to include the feeling of superiority over other countries. Globalism is associated with individuals who base their policy principles with consideration for the world as a whole.

While there is no way of knowing Trump’s intention when using these worlds, the historical association that many have with ‘nationalist’ and ‘globalists’ has stirred trouble for Trump. Nationalism has come to be associated directly with alt-right uprisings and white supremacist ideas. Generally, the alt-right has been incredibly supportive of Trump’s administration, and there are concerns that reclaiming nationalist as a positive could fuel alt-right groups even more.

The problem doesn’t end there. Vox cites the anti-Semitic history of the term ‘globalists,’ especially through the Trump-era, as an issue months before Trump’s statement this week. Steve Bannon’s use of the term is especially troubling because of his history with anti-Semitism. During earlier policy disputes, Bannon used the term ‘globalist’ to refer mainly to Jewish antagonists. These discrepancies make since considering that Adolf Hitler’s own regime and Nazi views were largely based on the premise of extreme nationalism.

It’s been speculated that Trump may not have considered that weight behind these words before he said them, but that doesn’t discount their value.

Esquire speculated that the president’s association with nationalism is indicative of his will to win. This means discounting the larger picture in order to do whatever ensures an American win; The loyalty to America matters above everything else. Extreme nationalism is often associated with the rise of fascism, which we fought a world war about a century ago.

When Trump calls himself a nationalist, it brings up decades of destruction and discrimination that many already saw in Trump. His intention was most likely to emphasize his “America first” ideology, but it could mean an admission to an incredibly destructive narrative.

Lauren McCluskey, a 21-year-old senior at the University of Utah was shot and killed on-campus Monday night. The school has canceled classes, though the campus will remain open, and has offered counseling services to all students, staff and faculty.

At around 8:20 p.m. on Monday, University Police responded to a report of a possible abduction, called in by the victim's mother. Following reports of gunshots, they discovered McCluskey's body in a car parked outside the south tower of the Medical Plaza.

The suspected gunman fled into Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church where he shot himself in the pastor's study, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. According to police, Melvin S. Rowland, 37, not a student at the university, had been in a "prior relationship" with McCluskey and after a dispute, he shot and killed her.

University officials issued an all clear at 1:47 a.m.

According to Jill McCluskey, Lauren's mother, “Lauren [had] previously dated her killer for about one month. He lied to her about his name, his age, and his criminal history.” When she found out the truth, she broke off the relationship.

Rowland had previously been convicted of attempted forcible sex abuse and enticing a minor over the internet in 2004 – he was released from prison in 2013.

A vigil for McCluskey organized by the Associated Students and the athletic department will be held on Wednesday at 5 p.m. on the steps of the Park Building on campus.

Ariana Grande Shared A Sweet Tribute To Mac Miller & My Heart Hurts

Many have been watching Ariana Grande closely since the death of rapper Mac Miller in September. Ariana’s name was pulled into the media cycle almost immediately because of her ex-girlfriend status, leading many trolls to blame her for Mac Miller’s struggles with addiction—despite the fact that it wasn’t her job to save him.

Even though the frenzy surrounding Mac’s death drove Ariana to disable her Instagram comments (and is also rumored to be responsible for her split with now ex-fiance Pete Davidson), she still has shown support for Mac on social media, and it’s clear that she was heartbroken by his passing. Ariana shared another tribute to Mac on her Instagram story on Monday, and though the video is short, it’s so bittersweet and heart-wrenching to see Mac so full of life.

In the video, which was presumably taken when the two were dating, Ariana is behind the camera filming Mac having a conversation with her grandmother. He turns to look back at her with a smile, and even though Ariana didn’t add a caption and almost no words were said, the few seconds were enough to have fans emotional.

So many were deeply affected by the loss of Mac Miller, and I can’t imagine what Ariana is going through.

How You Can Help Trans & Gender Non-Conforming Friends After The Trump Administration's Proposed Anti-Trans Memo

$

With the extremely disheartening news that the Trump administration is working to narrow the legal definition of gender, you may be wondering what you could possibly to do address this issue and help transgender and non-binary folks in your life.

Should the Department of Health and Human Services is planning on restricting gender to those that are the same as the sex that are assigned at birth (which are reductive and don't include the diverse ways folks identify and experience gender) it would alter the legal definition of sex in Title IX and inevitably directly take away crucial protections of transgender people. In addition to erasing non-discrimination protections, this continued assault on the trans community will have a significantly detrimental effect on feelings of safety for over 1.4 million American citizens.

So how can you help? First, do some research.

It's important to understand exactly what this dreadful plan could do. This will allow you to have a better picture of the gravity of the situation.

Based on the draft of the memo obtained by The New York Times, it aimed to include a legal definition of sex in Title IX (the federal civil rights law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs that receive federal funding) with the goal of restricting the definitions of gender and sex as unchangeable, limited to only "male" and "female" and assigned at birth.

Next, listen to trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people in your community. What are they calling for you to do?

Activists and members of the trans community have been working over-time (in all sorts of emotionally draining, challenging ways) to explain exactly what their fears are and what their communities need from allies right now.

Whether it's making calls to your local representatives, showing up and putting your body at a rally or protest or providing other assistance to organizers, the best way to get involved in an impactful way is to take your marching orders from folks who have been doing the work.

Want to get started ASAP? Here's a few other ways you can get involved.

1. Fill out GLAAD’s message form

GLAAD is described as a “dynamic media force” which “tackles tough issues to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change.” If you wish to send a direct message to transgender and gender nonconforming people, GLAAD will share it on their social channels in order to show them the support they have.

2. Join a rally

On October 22nd in DC there was a rally outside the White House by the National Center for Transgender Equality. They used the #Won’tBeErased hashtag to generate support and attendance. Look for a rally near you or use the hashtag to keep the conversation going on social media.

3. Vote

Make sure to get out to vote in November to eradicate the possibility of having more of these problems surface.

In order to remain vigilant on the Trump administration we must stay informed and show support in any of these ways. If you’re in a position to assist and wish to use your resources, check out some of these helpful organizations and movements.

4. Donate

Your money is always needed to fund the work of organizations fighting against injustice. Think of donating to these orgs as yet another way you can vote with your dollars and support the work that represents your values. Here's a few orgs you can consider donating to:

Trans Lifeline

This transgender-led organization is committed to emotional and financial support for anyone needing assistance. They have a well trained hotline peer support staff and microgrants. Donating to them could help to add to microgrants which aid in legal name changes and updated government ID documentation.

Lambda Legal

Any transgender person looking for legal help with no cost can go to this non profit legal organization. The staff here are determined to “achieve full recognition of rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and everyone living with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.” A donation to this organization could contribute to this important cause.

The Trevor Project

This organization assists in crisis intervention and suicide prevention to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning people under 25. They work tirelessly to create safe and accepting environments for those that need somewhere to turn to.

Human Rights Campaign

With three million members, this is the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights organization. The overall goal is to increase advocacy and education for all issues pertaining to these marginalized groups.

National Center for Transgender Equality

NCTE is celebrating its 15th anniversary of being an organization which was one of the first to provide championing of transgender policy work in DC.

While it's absolutely a scary time and it's so easy to feel hopeless and helpless, it's important to remember that there are always ways you can step up and stand up for marginalized people who need your support.

Foundation consists of seven pieces described on the Universal Standard website as “supremely soft, fit-first layering basics for all of US." The line starts at $30 with their camisole and goes up to $45 for their turtleneck, but if you really love what you see, you have the option to purchase a four or seven-piece kit for $120 or $180 respectively.

Beyond their range of sizes, Universal Standard has translated being fully inclusive into their advertising as well. On their website and Instagram, you’ll find women of every size, color, age, and ability modeling the line and driving home the point that this line is for EVERYONE. If you aren’t able to visit their storefronts in New York and Seattle but hate shopping online because you can’t see how something will fit, have no fear. Universal Standard allows you to schedule an online consultation with one of their stylists through a video call, allowing you to ask about the pieces and see how they fit on an actual person. Another day, another win for inclusivity in the fashion community!  Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go and spend my entire paycheck on those soft turtlenecks.
