8 Major Girl Power Moments From the Golden Globes

We hate to admit it, but last night’s Golden Globes felt like kind of a boy’s club. Without powerhouse hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in our corner, we were expecting a lot less female influence. But add to that Leonardo DiCaprio’s bizarre, headline-grabbing behavior and Ryan Gosling’s mere appearance, and you’ve got at least two reasons why the men were the center of attention. Never fear, though—these 8 moments packed some major girl power.

1. Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer redefine SQUAD GOALS

We’ve watched this friendship blossom from the sidelines for far too long, making it oh so sweet when Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer took the stage together to present their nominated films. J. Law and A. Schu hosting the 2017 Globes only seems natural, right? Or should we send them straight on to the White House in 2020?

2. Eva Longoria and America Ferrera tell us who they’re not

Sure, Eva Longoria and America Ferrera were paired as presenters in an effort to promote their new NBC sitcoms. But these funny ladies seized the opportunity to comment on all the fab Latina superstars they’ve been mistaken for. To put things in perspective, this moment was EVERYTHING. #representationmatters

3. Brie Larson proves to be the classiest

When Brie Larson won for her performance in Room, she not only accepted her award with the utmost grace and sweetness but offered to send a thank you note to anyone she forgot to mention in her speech.

4. Denzel Washington’s wife shines during his acceptance speech

Denzel may have been awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award for his lifetime achievement in film, but his wife stole the show during his all-too-brief acceptance speech. Wasn’t it adorbs when she asked if he needed his glasses? The answer is, of course, yes!

5. Rachel Bloom reminds us to never give up

We were all pulling for the flawless Jamie Lee Curtis to win in this category for her superb work on cult fave Scream Queens. But we couldn’t have been happier when Crazy Ex-Girlfriend leading lady, Rachel Bloom, spoke of the struggles she’d gone through to get her show made, reminding us all to stick with our dreams until they’re a reality.

6. Kate Winslet gives a shout out to women in film

How great is it when an actress acknowledges her fellow women for their amazing accomplishments? That’s exactly what Kate Winslet did in a beyond sincere moment that set the tone for the remainder of the evening.

7. Taraji P. Henson shuts down that teleprompter jerk

Okay, so we totally get why there’s a time limit for speeches, but nobody hushes Cookie. After all, she waited 20 years for the recognition she’s now receiving for her work; we think it’s only fair she get more than a minute to take it all in.

8. Amy and Jennifer hug it out because women support women

Being nominated in the same category as our besties at a major award show is something we’ve never experienced. But Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence showed us how it’s done when J. Law took home the statue for Joy. Nothing is better than women supporting women, are we right?

What was your favorite girl power moment of the night, collegiettes? Any we missed?
