At college, Greek life is pretty overwhelming. While it comprises a minority of the student population, it definitely feels like everyone is involved in it. So when you decide not to rush, life at college can feel a little…strange. But being a GDI is nothing to be ashamed about—in fact, the student body at your college is mostly GDIs. Like everything else in life, not joining Greek Life has its pros and cons. Here are just a few things that GDIs have to deal with:
1. Not understanding the appeal of frat parties. Why is it always so hot and sweaty, and it just seems like a sex pit.
2. And when you have nowhere else to go, so you decide to go to a frat, waiting in the long line to get in is the most irritating thing in the world.
3. Plus, you have experienced much better alcohol than Natty Light, so why bother?
4. You don’t understand salmon shorts. Why is that a thing?
5. You have no sympathy for girls crying over pref sheets during rush, but you try to make them feel batter anyway.
6. Buying anything other than Timberlands or Bean boots to avoid being considered “Greek.”
7. Getting asked, “did you rush?”
8. And then having to explain why you didn't when they ask.
9. Being extremely confused by the tier system. How are you supposed to know which frats and sororities are top tier? Why can’t you socialize with bottom tier?
10. Actually, keeping track of all the houses on campus is a task you can’t be bothered doing.
11. You don’t even understand the Greek letters anyway. Is that gamma or lambda?
