Why Is the Gender Pay Gap Getting Bigger?

A recent article published by the Wall Street Journal noted that men's earnings are growing twice as fast as women's this year. While men's earnings have grown 2.2 percent this year, women's have grown only .8 percent.

"The lastest data marks the third straight quarter that the increase in male earnings was at least double that of female workers,"WSJ reported. "As a result, women who work full time earned 81.1 cents for every dollar a man earned from July through September. That's down more than a penny from a year earlier."

While states like California are taking steps to close the gender wage gap, this year's pay data is disheartening. We've already seen that even among Ivy League graduates, the pay gap persists. And at current rates, the Institute for Women's Policy Research has reported it'll take most states more than 50 years to close the wage gap.

Not even huge celebrities like our fave Jennifer Lawrence are immune. She recently published an essay titled "Why Do I Make Less Than My Male Co-Stars?" after famously making less than them in "American Hustle."

Since men's wages are increasing in professional fields, the gender pay gap is growing. How can we stop this?
