If you’re a die-hard fan.
Like when your school plays the rival, Super Bowl Sunday is one of those times that you can go all out. Treat it like Halloween and realize that no amount of spirit is too much when it comes to your outfit. If you’re going to go for the fan look, the best way to pull it off is to commit!
Deck yourself out, head-to-toe, in your team’s colors and pair your outfit with your favorite player’s jersey. Since jerseys tend to be on the baggy side, keep the rest of the look fitted. A tight long-sleeved tee under your jersey is a great way to stay warm and cozy without looking like you’re smuggling something under all your layers.
Polar vortex chic?
Don’t stop at clothes, feel free to break out the face paint and (temporary) hair dye for some true team spirit!
If you’ve more or less chosen a team.
If you’ve chosen a team to root for, but think the Grammys beat the Super Bowl like Paris, France beats Paris, Texas, you’ll probably feel most at home in a more subtle look.
Pair your favorite jeans with a fitted jersey (the Nike store, among others, has started selling more flattering fitted cuts for women!) and accessorize with a scarf in your team colors!
Polar vortex chic strikes again.
If you’re just there for the commercials and the half time show.
Don’t feel bad. That’s definitely the category that I fall into – commercials and music are so much better than watching men hug for points.
Or whatever football is about.
Even if you don’t understand the game, the social aspect of Super Bowl parties (as well as the aforementioned commercials and half time show) can still make it worthwhile to go.
Since you might feel a little awkward trying to pull off a football jersey hyper-fan look when you’ve always thought that hawks were just a type of predatory bird, you can just go with athletic chic.
And guess what? As always, couture has your back!
As you can see in this runway look by Alexander Wang, sporty mainstays like track pants and pinneys and tees are back – but with a fun contrast edge that pushes them over from gym chick to chic.
To recreate the look with the runway price-point, match a pair of track pants in a bright color with a crisp white top. If you’re rocking white track paints, go for a black top or a really bright color!
No, the Kanye tee doesn’t count as a crisp white shirt – it needs to have some sort of a fashionable cut. My fave? Tees with the shoulders cut out. It’s a fun way to show some skin in a less expected place than the ever-popular crop top!
It’s comfortable, it’s cute, it’s vaguely athletic without any risk of someone asking you to explain a play to them.
How are you celebrating Super Bowl Sunday? More importantly, what will you wear?
