For the second year in a row, Lay’s has created the “Do Us A Flavor” challenge. This competition asked participants from all over the country to submit what they think should be Lay’s newest, and greatest, flavor. They first selected a base chip: wavy, kettle cooked, thin, etc. Next, they were allowed three flavors to put on the chip, and contestants finished up their application by stating which city this flavor represented and why. The creator of the winning flavor has the chance to win one million dollars!
After testing and creating submissions, Lay’s finally released their top four flavors—without telling anyone what they were. They shipped all four flavors to various media outlets, such as Cosmopolitan and Delish, who were asked to guess what the flavors were and write an article on their findings. Lay’s even stepped it up this year with marketing by installing vending machines in Los Angeles that held the four mystery flavors, encouraging the public to chime in on the delicious guessing game. They had some pretty interesting guesses, too: Barbie hair, thanksgiving stuffing, and California roll were all common flavor interpretations.
Finally, Lay’s has released the four finalists to the public: Southern Biscuits and Gravy, Greektown Gyro, New York Reuben and West Coast Truffle Fries. The new chips are available in stores starting July 15, and the contest will end on July 27. So make sure you taste all flavors, vote for your favorite flavor, and wait until the end of the month for Lay’s to reveal the winner of this year's Do Us A Flavor challenge!
