Anyone with a dairy allergy or sensitivity has experienced the pain of watching friends enjoy a big bowl of ice cream on a hot summer day. Even if there are non-dairy options available, they just don't compare to that creamy, rich ice cream that comes in a bazillion flavors.
Now, vegans and lactose intolerants can kiss those scarring memories goodbye. Ben & Jerry's, the famous ice cream superpower, has heard your prayers.
The brand has already accommodated our gluten-free friends, and has even added frozen yogurt and sorbets to their list of heavenly frozen treats for the health-savvy. But until now, no major ice cream company, Ben & Jerry's included, has introduced a dairy-free option. According to an exclusive interview in Metro.co.uk, that's all about to change.
Like lesser known brands, such as So Delicious Dairy Free, Ben & Jerry's will be utilizing creamy and refreshing coconut milk (or almond milk—let's hope you weren't burdened with a nut allergy and a dairy allergy) to create a whole new line of vegan-friendly ice cream. Considering Ben & Jerry's power in the ice cream world, we have hopes that whatever they come up with, it'll come in as many flavors as their classic ice cream. If you're listening, Ben and Jerry, we'd love a vegan Cookie Core!
Unfortunately, you'll have to defer your dairy-free ice cream dreams for one more year. This idea is still in its early stages, and the new ice cream won't be appearing on shelves until Spring 2016. Of course, we're sure it'll be worth the wait—good ol' Jerry, co-founder of Ben & Jerry's and our sweet treat hero, promises it'll be "delicious."
