Sick of eating cereal and ramen for lunch and dinner? Want to spend less money eating out and finally start cooking for yourself? Put down that frozen pizza, because HC’s Health Editor, Sammie Levin, is here to share her daily eats so you can get ideas for healthy, satisfying meals that are easy enough for any time-strapped collegiette to make. After you read Collegiette Eats, your taste buds, wallet and waistline will thank you.

Breakfast

I was in a hurry before class for breakfast yesterday, so I took a yogurt to go. I had a pomegranate Chobani Greek yogurt and mixed in berries and a tablespoon of flaxseed.

Lunch

For lunch, I stopped at The Pita Pit in between classes. I love The Pita Pit because you get to customize your own wrap and there are plenty of healthy ingredients to choose from. I got a wheat pita with a spicy black bean patty, spinach, tomato, cucumber, carrots, red pepper hummus and tzatziki (yogurt sauce). It was tasty, but I have to say, they were a little stingy on the ingredients today. I swear the guy only put three shreds of carrot in my pita. That ain't right.

Dinner

For dinner, I had another vegetable sauté like my lunch I wrote about Tuesday with spinach, kale, tomato, mushrooms, avocado and egg. I washed my dinner down with a green juice. One of my housemates just got a Vitamix blender, which is amazing for blending just about anything into a juice or smoothie consistency. I blended a big red apple with a little bit of spinach and kale, the juice of one lemon and some water. It was so refreshing; you could really taste the sweetness of the apple and it just felt healthy to drink. Want to know more about green juices and find recipes? Between a hard course load, applying to internships and many of my friends studying abroad instead of in Ann Arbor, this semester is already proving to be the most stressful yet... and it's only just started! I'm hoping things calm down after I get back into the groove of things and (hopefully) get an internship somewhere. It can be hard to maintain a healthy diet when you're stressed, but I've found that the less healthy I am when I'm stressed, the more stressed and worse I feel, so it's a vicious cycle! If you're feeling stressed or down, take the time to make a few meals that will make you feel recharged and energized. And no, unfortunately, that that pint of Ben and Jerry's doesn't count... but I'm not saying I've never done it.
