Hermione Granger fans, rejoice! Emma Watson’s dreams of becoming a Disney princess are officially coming true! Last week, it was confirmed that Emma has been cast as Belle in a live adaptation of the classic Disney movie, Beauty and the Beast. Although a release date has yet to be announced, we can’t wait to see her portray Belle! Here are a few reasons why:
1. She's an incredibly versatile actress
Emma first stole our hearts as a quick-thinking bookworm in the Harry Potter series, but over the years she’s proven that her acting abilities aren’t limited to fantasy movies. She’s put her skills to the test in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring, and Noah. Emma has even lent her voice to the animated filmed The Tale of Despereaux. We think playing an iconic Disney character is a great next step!
2. We'll get to see her pull out that triple threat
For the first time ever, we’ll be able to see Emma not only dance, but SING in a movie! Even Emma is excited for this new challenge, as she prepares to take vocal lessons and strap on dancing shoes that we assume will look super stylish on her.
3. We trust she'll do the role justice
Emma is one of the most dedicated actresses in Hollywood—just ask her former costars! At a recent Harry Potter event held in Florida, Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), James Phelps (Fred Weasley), and Oliver Phelps (George Weasley) voiced their excitement over the news. They agreed that Emma is hardworking and able to undertake any challenge she’s faced with.
4. She's a fantastic role model for young women and girls
After launching the HeForShe campaign last September, Emma Watson has proven to be the ultimate activist and inspiration for young girls everywhere. We have no doubt that she’ll bring the same enthusiasm to the role of Belle, and reach out to an even younger audience!
5. We just can't picture anybody else playing the part
Emma is the epitome of beauty, grace, and elegance. 'Nuff said. But seriously, we can already picture her in that yellow dress!
