Picture this: its 11:59 p.m. on New Year's Eve. You’re rocking the cutest NYE outfit and your makeup is flawless. And then you suddenly realize that you’re stuck in a room full of people who are just waiting for the ball to drop so that they can partake in the age-old midnight kiss… and you’re all alone.
Granted, the midnight kiss is just one moment, but don’t start your New Year off boring! Here are five things to do if you don’t have a New Year’s kiss.
1. Photobomb other couples’ kisses
Whoops, didn’t we just say to start the New Year off right? Oh well. If you don’t have a picture-perfect New Year’s Eve kiss, why should anyone else?
Take this opportunity to master the art of the photobomb! Have another single friend ready, and just before midnight, jump in the background your favorite couple’s kiss. This is a New Year’s Eve kiss that none of you will forget.
2. Start a midnight tradition with your girl friends
Rather then dwelling on the situation, take this opportunity to brighten someone else’s New Year’s. Send your best friends a sappy love text or hug them at the stroke of midnight!
“Every year on New Year’s Eve, my friends and I reinvent the classic idea of Secret Santa,” says Sarah Korbluh, a senior at the University of Delaware. “We like to all write each other gushy love notes with cute little gifts to open up after the ball drops. It’s a great way for us to bring in the New Year—boyfriend or not.”
3. Call your mom (or dad!)
What better way to ring in the New Year than by celebrating with people you love? Mom and Dad are sure to be excited for your call, and it will make their New Year just as special.
“My mom is always my go-to call at midnight,” says Lisa, a University of Delaware senior. “I know how happy it makes her that she’s always first on my list. New Year’s Eve is the perfect time to reflect on how important family is.”
4. Resort to Ryan Gosling
“Hey, girl. It’s me, Ryan, and if I don’t get you through the night, I don't know what will.”
That's right: Ryan. Gosling. When all else fails, kiss Ryan Gosling at midnight. On your TV screen, phone—hey! Even print him out. If he’s not your best New Year’s kiss, well, we can’t help you.
5. Embrace it!
Embrace your kisslessness like a badass. Treat the New Year as a chance to celebrate your independence. Beginning the New Year as a single lady is a great way to start off fresh and focus on the other goals you want to accomplish in 2015!
Take this New Year in stride, and remind yourself that it’s the perfect time to find new ways to tackle your resolutions. Enjoy the holidays as the independent woman that you are!
