Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching. It’s time to start planning what to wear! If you’re like me, you’re over the cliché heart print dresses and tops. I know there are girls out there who love heart printed items — and that’s totally okay — the cheesy style isn’t for everyone. You can still look cute and on theme for V-Day, without the heart motifs.
From luxe lace to glam satin, there are so many ways to add a romantic feel to your outfit, no matter what your style is. Shoes, accessories and even hairstyles are there to elevate your look! In a fashion slump? I’ve been there. To make your life easier, I’ve compiled the best looks come February 14th.
1. Pastel Pink
Pastel pink is easy to wear since it definitely borders on being a neutral. You can rock a soft, pastel pink blouse for a subtle nod at the holiday without being too obvious. Throw on a matching pink headband — pearls (Etsy, $30) are a plus! — and some printed booties (MIA, $40). The boots will elevate the outfit and you’ll look like you just stepped off the runway.
2. Galentine’s Day Feels
If your V-Day plans err on the side of Galentine's Day with your girls, throw on a graphic tee like Hannah Godwin's (Show Me Your Mumu, $68). The “Girls Girls Girls” text is perfect for a girls’ night in . Pair it with your favorite jeans and if you’re feeling adventurous, add a fun hat.
3. Matchy-Matchy
Matching separates like co-ords and sets are one of those fashion pieces that instantly give you the fashion blogger look. They’re so easy to pull off since they’re literally a complete outfit. Throw it on and you’re ready to go with zero effort. Unless, you’re trying on ten pair of shoes and still don’t know which one to pick. You can’t go wrong with nude heels (DSW, $35) or classic white Converse (DSW, $50).
4. Subtle Glam
A satin skirt (Nasty Gal, $23) and a chunky sweater (ASOS, $57) is the perfect balance of glam and cozy fashion. It’s also the perfect way to balance highs and lows. With heels, this look is perfect for a fancy date night. For a chill night, pair with booties or some cute sneakers.
5. Sparkle & Shine
You’re over heart prints but you still want an obviously Valentine’s Day outfit? Sequins are a great alternative for an outfit that feels special. Mix up the texture by wearing a red sequined top (VICI, $48) with denim. The denim will give the ‘fit a casual feel. We all want the “I didn’t try too hard” vibe.
6. Monochromatic Maven
Stick with a monochromatic palette of pinks and reds for a fresh and trendy V-Day. Make sure to use textures. You’ll break up the outfit and give it dimension. In the IG post, Katie Sands mixes a metallic moto jacket with pink shorts and snakeskin booties. When you look at her, you see pink but not too pink.
7. Farm-girl Chic
Breathe new life into your kindergarten staple! Overalls in a punchy pink hue may seem too campy for daily wear, but Samantha shows that they can be high fashion. Wear a patterned top underneath and you’ll instantly be the envy of all of your friends (and their closets).
8. Red Dress, ~ReD DReSs~
Take a cue from the JoBros and rock a red dress this Valentine’s Day. If a red dress is what gets Joe Jonas’s attention, I’d wear red dresses every day for the rest of my life — just saying. Personally, I'm eyeing this fire engine red bodycon (Lulu's, $52) and this flowy off the shoulder mini (Pretty Little Thing, $52).
9. Floral dream
Florals? For Valentine’s Day? Groundbreaking. A floral dress is soft and traditionally feminine without being as obviously Valentine’s as a heart printed one. The dress will look perfect with heels or dress it down with sneakers and a denim jacket. I'm loving this dreamy red floral dress (Lulu's, $25) and this floaty long sleeve mini (Lulu's, $50).
10. Bisou
A lip print is so festive and fun - and what better day to rock it than on Valentine's Day? Swipe on some red lipstick and you're done. My favorite red lippies are L'Oreal Colour Riche (Ulta, $11) in "Blake's Red" - yes, "Blake" as in Blake Lively - and Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Ruby (Sephora, $32) in "Sunrise Ruby".
11. Romantic with an Edge
If hearts and florals aren't your thing, try an edgy bodysuit under jeans or opt for a sheer top (Romwe, $5), a beautiful red bralette (Aerie, $14) and high waisted red pants (Fashion Nova, $33)! Warning: this look is not for the faint of heart.
Real talk: you can and should wear whatever you want for Valentine’s Day, from a heart printed dress to all black head-to-toe. As much as V-Day is about loving others, it should also be used to practice self-love. You should wear what you love and you should feel confident, no matter what day it is.
