College Women Are More Likely to Vote for Donald Trump Than Joe Biden

Despite low approval ratings and the ongoing impeachment trial, President Trump is still a competitive candidate in the 2020 presidential election. According to data from Her Campus’s 2020 pre-election survey that polled over 500 college women, Trump is not surprisingly trailing behind frontrunners Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren with this group.

But what is surprising, is that as of now, 11% of college women plan to vote for Trump, compared to only 9% that said they would vote for former Vice President Joe Biden.

Of course, once the field consolidates, college women may unify behind whichever Democratic candidate comes out on top, but for now, the fact that more would plan to vote for Trump than Biden speaks to the former Vice President’s failure to connect and resonate with this group of voters. And if the Democrats nominate someone young women are unenthused about, it could lead to lower voter turnout. 41% said they had a negative impression of Biden, while 85% of those surveyed said they had a negative impression of Trump.

Ultimately, the final result of the 2020 election will depend on voter turnout, and young voters make up more than a third of the population heading to the polls this year.
