Dream Job Alert: IKEA is Searching for a 'Happiness Hunter' to Win a Two-Week Trip to Denmark

For those of us obsessed with home decorating, IKEA is literally the happiest place on earth. (Sorry, Disneyland.) And if you love IKEA as much as we do, then we have the perfect job for you, because IKEA is currently searching for a “happiness hunter” — someone to see what it’s like living in Denmark, which has consistently been named one of the happiest nations in the world. Can you say dream job?!

IKEA Denmark is hosting a worldwide competition to send a “happiness hunter” to Copenhagen for two weeks, to experience the life of an average Dane, House Beautiful reports. The company will cover all travel expenses and the winner will move into a Danish home fully furnished by IKEA. Plus, the selected candidate will receive an average Danish salary and pay the equivalent to an average Danish tax, and they’ll spend two weeks getting to know Denmark and the Danish way of living — including home visits, guided tours, talks and dinners.

The selected candidate will receive free meatballs (köttbullar) at the IKEA restaurant as well, so that’s a major bonus.

“We know that Danes have a strong emotional connection to their homes which they perceive as a safe space for wellness and ‘hygge’,” Lene Gaarde, Country Communication Manager at IKEA Denmark, said. “In our ‘Life at Home’ study we asked more than 20,000 people from 22 different countries about their feelings for their home, and nine out of 10 Danes said that they feel peace and happiness when they think about their homes.”

“We wondered whether happiness arises from the Danes’ authentic life at home. But it’s difficult for us to figure out since we, as Danes, are naturally blind to certain elements that characterise everyday life in Danish homes. That’s why we’re inviting our competition winner to Denmark to help us discover the key to the Danes’ happiness in their homes.”

During their stay, the “happiness hunter” will get to see how Danes live and interact with one another and will share their experiences and pinpoint exactly what it is about the Danish lifestyle that makes Denmark one of the happiest countries in the world.

The winner will blog about their experiences on IKEAHomeView.com, and will be followed around by a camera crew who will be producing a mini documentary about the whole adventure, HuffPost UK reports.

Now, IKEA is looking for individuals who are curious, interested in new experiences, love to travel and meet new people, love being on camera and in the spotlight and are at least 18 years of age. You should also have a passion for finding the secret to happiness. If this sounds like you, then you’ll just need to answer a few questions and submit a video to show why you are the right person for the position.

The winner will be announced in the beginning of August, and the trip will take place in September.

The contest is open until July 1, so send in your applications ASAP!
