Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds — we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

Apparently, MySpace Just Lost 12 Years Of User-Uploaded Music

Before Facebook, MySpace dominated the internet. MySpace used to be the easiest way to share and discover music, but now you might not be able to find any of your old or favorite uploaded files.

On Monday, MySpace said that they lost millions of music uploaded to the platform between 2003 and 2015 during a server migration, BBC News reports. It wasn’t just music, but photos and videos were also lost.

“As a result of a server migration project, any photos, videos, and audio files you uploaded more than three years ago may no longer be available on or from MySpace,” the company told BBC News. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”

According to Kickstart co-creator Andy Baio, he predicted around 50 million songs from 14 million artists possibly no longer exist. Artists such as Kate Nash, Calvin Harris and Arctic Monkeys were discovered on MySpace, CNN reported. All of their work and others could have been erased.

Scientists Reported That A Whole Died From Consuming A Shocking Amount Of Plastic Materials

Scientist found a young, male whale that had 88 pounds of plastic bags in its stomach, and it died from dehydration and malnutrition as a result, CNN reported. Many are now calling for a renewed promise to decrease pollution in the ocean.

The whale’s body was found on Friday in Mabini, Compostela Valley. CNN reported that the D’Bone Collector Museum, which is a natural history museum in Davao City, was called to conduct a necropsy on the whale, and the discovery shocked the scientists.

“40 kilos of plastic bags. Including 16 rice sacks. 4 banana plantation style bags and multiple shopping bags [were found inside the whale]...This whale had the most plastic we have ever seen in a whale. It’s disgusting. Action must be taken by the government against those who continue to treat the waterways and ocean as dumpsters,” the organization wrote in a Facebook post

Darrell Blatchley, the owner of the D’Bone Collector Museum, told The New York Times that the plastic was compressed inside the 1,100 pound whale so much so that it started to form a solid mass. “The plastic in some areas was so compact it was almost becoming calcified, almost like a solid brick,” Blatchley said. “It had been there for so long it had started to compact.”

Peter Kemple Hardy of World Animal Protection told CNN that the whale’s death was a “tragic reminder” that the world needs to “work together towards global solutions” to fight ocean pollution.

“Hundreds of thousands of whales, dolphins, seals and turtles are killed by ocean plastic pollution every year, including single-use plastics and abandoned plastic gear from the fishing industry,” Hardy said.

“Egg Boy” Will Donate Most Of GoFundMe Money To Christchurch Shooting Victims

Will Connolly, the 17-year-old boy who had a viral interaction with an Australian senator, will donate funds from GoFundMe to the victims of the deadly New Zealand mosque shooting, CBS News reported.

“EggBoi plans to send a majority of the money to the victims of the Christchurch terrorist attack,” Connolly’s GoFundMe page states. The GoFundMe was created after an exchange he had with Australian senator Fraser Anning. Anning blamed Muslim migrants for the attack on Friday at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. According to CNN, at least 50 people were killed and another 50 were injured. In a statement, Newsweek reports, Anning said he “utterly opposed” to violence and “totally condemn the actions of the gunman.”

“However, whilst this kind of violent vigilantism can never be justified, what it highlights is the growing fear within our community, both in Australia and New Zealand, of the increasing Muslim presence,” he added.

The statement erupted outrage online so much so Connolly stood behind Anning and smashed an egg on his head. The situation became such a viral sensation, and many online called Connolly a hero.

The goal of the GoFundMe was at $50,000, and it has already surpassed that. As of right now, it has reached over $57,800.
