It may still be the middle of winter, but I’ve got summer on the brain. One of my favorite summer treats is an ice cold watermelon, and now I’m lucky enough to have it as an ingredient in some of my favorite skincare products.
Watermelon isn’t necessarily a new trend, though. Way back in 2016, Palmer’s Cocoa Butter introduced its FlipBalm in Juicy Watermelon, and ever since then, I knew I wanted more. However, with the rise in Korean beauty products, college women now have more information and formulas at their fingertips to experiment with.
So what does watermelon do anyway?
Watermelon is a fruit similar to squash, pumpkin, and cantaloupe that is made of 92% water, which means that a product containing watermelon will be extra hydrating for your skin. This juicy fruit also includes Vitamin A, B6 and C, which help to aid the immune system and allows your skin to benefit from antioxidants.
Watermelon is great for all skin types! Dry skin benefits from the added moisture, and thanks to good old Vitamin A, the amount of oil that your skin produces is reduced.
Is watermelon only for my skin?
Watermelon is most often found in skincare products, but you can use it on your body too! Both Hempz and Philosophy offer body washes that include watermelon as a main ingredient, so that the skin on the rest of your body can also benefit from the extra hydration. Watermelon seed oil also acts as a lightweight alternative for your hair.
