Is It Possible to Color-Block Your Outfit Without Looking Crazy? Apparently So, According to NYFW

So, New York Fashion Week is one of the most exciting times for the fashion-oriented that occurs twice a year. Even though most of us didn't attend the NYFW shows (a girl can dream, right?), in today’s world of social media, we can watch the shows live and pull inspiration from the catwalk to our own wardrobes instantly.

Walking down the runways for Spring 2019, one of the biggest trends we’re seeing is color-blocking. ICYMI, color-blocking is when an outfit incorporates at least two solid colors next to each other, typically in bold hues. This season, color-blocking is getting an update, with designers and street-style pros sticking mostly to neon shades — think of the colors you can buy highlighters in. If you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe for spring, look no further than these color-blocking looks for inspiration:

1. For the ~cool girl~

If you’re feeling extra bold, try the unexpected combination of pairing a lime green top with orange bottoms. We love how Katie Sands paired the look with white sneakers to give it a laid back, “I didn’t try too hard” vibe.

2. Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize

You don’t have to limit color-blocking to just your clothes! We love how Kaia Gerber’s runway look at Sies Marjan incorporates electric orange into her shoes and headband as well as her top. Try it at home and find a use for that one color you own way too much of.

3. Fit for royalty

Meghan Markle has been one of our fashion role models this past year. Feel like royalty and pair bright purple with a fire engine red coat. The colors fall in a similar color family, so the look isn’t over the top. We can’t guarantee this look will make a prince fall in love with you, but hey it’s worth a shot, right?

4. For the beginner

If you’re nervous about color-blocking or aren’t sure where to start, keep it simple with colors that are different shades of each other, such as pink and red or navy blue and turquoise. The look isn’t quite as bold and is a great way to test the waters before diving headfirst into the trend.

5. For the trendsetter

If you love bold colors and want to take a fashion risk, go all out with color-blocking like fashion blogger Blair Eadie. While at a glance it might look like a lot going on at once, her magenta bag and shoes anchor the look together and make it feel cohesive.

Whether you’re a total fashionista or just looking to spice up your wardrobe for spring, color-blocking is a fun way to incorporate a little bit of NYFW into your own closet. Just pick colors you love and have fun with it. Alexa, play "She’s a Rainbow" by the Rolling Stones.🌈🌈🌈
